The count/progress display issue seems to reset at the start of each block. The skipping/interruptions problem does not happen often here, but I have seen it. I have no issues with the display, and the per-track duration view is definitely an improvement. In my very limited testing just now, I am still seeing premature skipping and/or track interruption with Bill/Rebecca's announcement (as described in earlier posts). This is with the main FLAC feed. I played the Main Mix. The first track displayed exactly the right total time, countdown, and progress bar. For the next tracks the total time was correct, but the countdown and progress bar blinked "00:01" without changing. That was on SLX with Material Skin, but I checked the Squeezer app and saw the same issue, with the countdown and progress bar stuck at "00:00" (but at least no blinking). Switching to another RP mix/channel, and the bug did not occur until after one music track, one RP ID message, and one more track. Then the bug reappeared for every subsequent track. Agreed, Squeezer is not a player just a very basic control app. Clean, fast, and stable, but basic. A slower but more feature-rich alternative would be the LMS web app. With the Material Skin, it's optimized for mobile and quite enjoyable. I use both as needed. When you say "stream to my amp" what is the player connected to your amp - a proper SB device, a Pi, one of the bridge plugins or what? I don't use Squeezer but my understanding is that it is a controller only. SqueezePlay is a software player that should connect to LMS and play on your PC through the PCs sound card. Hmmm confusing  To me it seems like Squeezer is controlling LMS, which in return sends it feedback to Squeezer. They seem to (inter)act the same way (when one is stopped, the other one is. When one is paused, the other one is, when one selects a different station, the other one does. vice versa). See post #610 in this thread. My issues with the FLAC streams are so very very infrequent, but when I did have a problem, switching to a normal stream (like the RP 320kbps) or my library was my "solution". I think the suspicion (or at least my suspicion) of network or wifi issues is more the RP FLAC's ability to handle exceptions/interruptions, as opposed to a LMS issue. I have streamed the FLAC stations so continuously trying to get an abnormal situation that I can replicate (trying to help), that I am starting to realize how often the groovy, rock, mellow mix play the same songs :). I have to agree that networking seems to be involved in this issue in general, and when I read your post Kees, that's what I thought, and have been thinking. RP FLAC, and of the four stations can play rock solid for me for hours, but it seems to not handle network exceptions as well as say a standard stream. Also, the fact that some have allot of trouble where others do not, and other inconsistancies, might point to this. I changed my ISP provider recently (for other reasons), and my experience is almost 100% fine. But, we had a significant wind storm here (my ISP is cable, above ground). The RP FLAC streams would play a few seconds and freeze (I had to manually restart), the 320 kbps was much better but allot of rebuffering. I finally got fed up and played from my library. It may or may not be related, but if I sync and unsync players in the middle of a FLAC stream it almost never works without a restart, where the 320kbps or my library works fine. Just some observations. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)
Usually with Internet Radio you upload your tracks and a playlist or point the output of your source to a Shoutcast server or similar but RP seems different. Anyone know more? RP lossless is not a regular internet radio station. It has features like skipping tracks, which you couldn't do with the Shoutcast way of streaming. RP does indeed send out tracks in groups of files. Therefore you'd see a playtime of 30 minutes or other. When you reach the end of a group, or hit Next, RP would send another block. I don't know why they decided to stream in blocks rather than just single tracks. It certainly makes things much more complicated from my POV, as I have to update the metadata for a single file in sync with what is supposed to be streaming. Other than with Shoutcast the metadata is not part of the stream. -- Michael ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I think I prefer it to 6 Music due to the very limited talk element. Some of the DJs on 6 think it should be all about them not the music. I am however wondering exactly how RP puts together its programming. If I look at the track duration it usually tells me circa 30 mins but that 30 mins contains 6 or so tracks and perhaps some talky bits. The metadata also changes a few seconds before the track changes. None of this is at all an issue it just causes me to wonder how its put together. My UI's are primarily the touch, but occasionally a controller or the SqueezeCntrl app on android. If it happens again, I'll try to pay more attention/experiment between the three interfaces. I have a hunch that the back a few songs/restart the song anomaly has something to do with sync, and especially due to "self resyncing" after some type of network exception (e.g. "rebufferingwaiting to sync" UI message). Syncing/Unsyncing with the FLAC streams always seems to struggle. I also believe that could be related to the fact that when you first start the stream, it always (as you know) starts from the beginning of the song, as opposed to other streams that "join in progress" In fact, I don't think I have ever seen the "waiting to sync" message after "rebuffering" until I started listening to the FLAC streams, perhaps because the recovery happens so quickly with other streams. Sorry, just sharing some thoughts. In general the FLAC streams perfectly acceptable for me, because the exceptions are so infrequent. I know it's allot more problematic for others. Its also a good time to thank you, and the others for not only FLAC streaming, but the mix of RP genres. It is wonderful! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)
Hi Michael, I didn't realize the plugin had been updated until today (over the last few weeks I've been playing the 320 stream). This evening I did some in-depth testing with the FLAC version (verified that I am on v. 2.2.3). Interruptions/skips as bad as ever. I turned RP logging up to debug, set all other logging to off, and started with a fresh log file; I am posting the log file at the link below. Here's my log of the actions I took. Made sure that browser pages to the LMS were closed (since I understand this causes excess log entries). From a SB Touch that I unsynced from all other players, I selected the FLAC stream, and then watched the display and logged the following; all times are EST (UTC -5). 10:05 PM12:32 Block starts to play 1st song: Ben Harper: How Dark is Gone --> Plays to completion 2nd song: Quicksilver Messenger Service: Fresh Air --> Interrupted by Bill announcement a couple of mins in 10:12 PM After interruption above, new 24:14 block starts 1st song: The War on Drugs: Pain --> Plays to completion 2nd song: Elbow: Charge --> Interrupted by Bill within seconds of starting 10:17 PM After interruption above, new 20:37 block starts 1st song: Thievery Corporation: Sweet Tides --> Plays to completion 2nd song: Blur: This is a Low --> Display changed to show song and cover art, but never actually started playing; Bill came on with another announcement 10:22 PM New 29:36 block started, 1st song: Bob Dylan: It's alright, Ma (I'm only bleeding) After that, I aborted the effort. Does this happen on a Touch? I have never experienced it. Transporter and Squeezeplay on Mac. I think it depends not only on the player and its buffer size, but also on what kind of controllers you've connected. I believe that eg. using a web UI could worsen the issue. In general my code seems to be overly complicated, trying to be smart about timings etc. when most of the hard facts actually is in the metadata I receive from RP. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)
I just changed my players to "proxy" rather than "direct". I -think -it's a bit better, but not really sorted. Been listening for approx. 30mins and had two skips. The first one was mid song and it jumped to a short Rebecca "your listening to radio paradise" announcement. The second time, halfway through a song it stopped and another song started playing. This was listening to a Pi-2 with PiCorePlayer loaded on it. LMS is sitting on a WHS-11 server. I have 6 total in various rooms of the house, and at least 2 are synced at all times. However, for me at least, the "skipping" is NOT sync related (i.e., I've unsynced players, and have done even so far as to test with only a single SB Touch on the network). BTW, this is with the Main FLAC mix. On very rare occasions, I can get through a ~10 min block uninterrupted. Usually, though, the 2nd or 3rd song ends prematurely. Lately I've been listening to the 320 MP3 stream so my memory of the details is getting a bit fuzzy. I will do my best to have another go at the FLAC stream(s) and make a detailed log of what I observe at the first opportunity I get (may not be for a few days though). robanglin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32546 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108189 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I'll try Proxy. I started experimenting today and found that if I start unsynched (on touch, RP main stream) then add a receiver via sync, all sorts of problems start to snowball, a sync where the main player pauses for sync, then only it resumes, and sometimes it resumes on a song already heard, frozen artwork, etc. and alot of button presses trying to get it to recover. I'm going to play around a bit over the next couple days with syncing and unsynching these specific players with RP FLAC, other radio stations, my library, etc, even direct/proxy. If I can cause a specific issue that I can replicate, I'll report back. With regard to skipping, you guys are hearing basically a song end prematurely and a new one starting? Are there other manifestations? Touch with two receivers synched, LMS 7.9.2 on PiCore server. Receivers via Wifi, Touch currently on WiFi, but normally on ethernet. Standard RP stream I don't think I am experiencing the skipping recently, more a hangup that I have to go Back/Fwd to restart. But I do recall having the "what was that?" skipping when the FLAC stream became available. It has been working quite well recently, and I do get the announcements from B Personally, for no good reason other than a hunch, I suspect the sync is the catalyst of the issue. A while back I had buffering issues with a sync with a different receive on the fringes of good wifi, and it was difficult to maintain stable playback for anything (for the synced group) until I improved my router and positioned the receiver better. I'll run the touch by itself for the next couple days and see what happens. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)
Ok, ok, got a new theory on the skipping issue. Bill's and Rebecca's announcements are no longer part of a larger segment of audio, but sometimes come as their own short sound snippet. I've seen one as short as 4 seconds. And I have some fuzzy logic built in which would act on 5s offset of whatever. I would not be surprised if such a short snippet would confuse my logic. Could all of you who experience this issue often tell me what kind of player you're using? The skipping could be related to audio buffer size. Which would explain why I hardly ever experienced it on my Transporter. -- Michael ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)
I'd like to share my observations, by chance it might contribute to an "ah ha" for someone...Like I said before, RP is casual listening, and while I prefer FLAC, i just switch over to the 320kbps stream if the FLAC stream struggles. My ears are getting older (along with the rest of me) so critical listening isn't as critical these days :) With the renewal of this discussion, I have been running it all day everyday, but it never makes it through the day without freezing. Typically it runs for maybe 1-2 hours before needed attention, but occasionally it struggles a bit more often (as short as 10-20 minutes). I always attributed the stop after hours as an "end of a cue of songs" just as a guess. When it stops, artwork is frozen, or broken, even if it restarts by itself, or I restart it with a back/play. That is, if it stopped with artist #1, restarting it with artist #2, artwork for #1 remains displayed for some time. I always assumed once broken it needed me to fix it, but a couple times recently, it stopped, I was busy and didn't address it, and was surprised when it started, say maybe an hour later (especially since the listening level was not exactly soft). For no good reason other than a hunch, I just suspected it was due to the fact that this stream be differently than say, a normal internet radio station, with regard to recovery from network/router hardware issues. I have two locations, one with crappy 3Mbps DSL, and one with 100Mbps cable ISP. I have experienced "rebuffering" for years on the DSL, primarily with receivers on WiFi, but occasionally/rarely with a touch on LAN. But the RP FLAC hangup is on the cable ISP. I also (very rarely) will get rebuffering with a standard 128kbps stream. When it happens I just figure it's my ISP, or a mystery within my router/LAN. The other thing I wonder is if it has something to do with synchronization. Can there be a bad actor on a sync group that could cause issues for the others? I ask because often I have two receivers on WIFI synced with the touch on LAN. This week I'll run it un-synced and see how it behaves. In my experience these "happens to some, not to others, happens sometimes, not others, cannot be predicted, etc" are related to the unique systems (network?) and unique situations (synced with a weak wifi signal?) that maybe exposes something in the software/hardware that isn't apparent when the support system is iron clad. Just my observations. I'm running PiCore LMS, and like I said, typically leave a touch on LAN and two receivers on WIFI synched. I have LMS on a WHS-2011 server along with all my music and videos. It's always fully up to date. It's always been pretty much unusable, I get the skipping thing every few songs, it's such a shame as the Flac stream is noticeable better than the the 320mb/s stream (I have a Chord Mojo dac on the kitchen system and a Teddy Pardo dac on the main rig). About a year ago I got so fed up with it that I bought a R-Pi3 and installed LMS on it. It was a bit of a fiddle to point it towards all my music on the server. I uninstalled LMS from the server. It was definitely a bit better, but still did the skipping thing. Maybe it skipped every 5 or songs rather than every 2 or 3. This would imply that it's something odd about my network, but if that's the case it is ONLY Radio Paridse on the LMS that has an issue, everything else, BBC iPlayer etc works fine. I guess I should have done some more exhausive testing, e.g. turn off the server and anything else on the network and use the R-Pi server in stand alone mode. But ... I just gave up, went back to LMS on the server and stick to 320mb/s. If I use the Radio Paradise webplayer on either a phone or PC plugged straight into a dac it works perfectly. Doing that right now and it's been going for approx 2 hours perfectly. Just weird. Hope this helps track it down. I have noticed the song duration phenomenon you describe as well, no idea if it's related to the skipping/track ending prematurely piece, which for me happens nearly constantly--by which I mean almost every other song. On rare occasions I can get through a 15 min block uninterrupted, but almost always happens during the 2nd or 3 track of a block. I am happy to assist in helping to troubleshoot this issue in any way I can--just let me know; thanks again. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)
Last week I did listen to the lossless stream a little more carefully. And I could indeed notice a few glitches as described before: track ending prematurely, skipping to new track etc. It didn't happen often, but it clearly did. What I did notice was that the song duration seems to sometimes get confused. Eg. the progress bar would have reached the end despite it claiming to have several minutes of playback left. Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce it other than just listening to the stream for hours... which isn't very helpful. But I'll try to figure out what this is about. I just spent some time rebuilding my windows machine from scratch (needed to do so anyway for unrelated reasons). It is a Win 10 Pro machine dedicated to running LMS and nothing else. I have tried disabling ALL plugins (except for RP of course), turning off various other devices on my network, etc. The behavior persists. The crazy thing is that it used to work flawlessly until about a month ago; issue started around Christmas time, and at first I didn't pay too much attention--figured it was a problem on the RP side and Bill would fix after the holidays. Clearly not the case. I've been racking my brains trying to figure out what may have changed--no joy. I have tried turning logging for the RP plugin to Debug, seeing a lot of entries such as: [19-01-20 18:43:18.8010] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:18.8012] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/1800413-1800417.flac?src=alexa): 0.0 [19-01-20 18:43:18.8013] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (254) Not sure I'm in the right place - scheduling another update soon [19-01-20 18:43:27.9505] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:27.9506] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/5006460.flac?src=alexa): 0.4 [19-01-20 18:43:27.9509] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:27.9511] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/5006460.flac?src=alexa): 0.4 [19-01-20 18:43:27.9518] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:27.9520] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/5006460.flac?src=alexa): 0.4 [19-01-20 18:43:27.9522] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:27.9523] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/5006460.flac?src=alexa): 0.4 [19-01-20 18:43:37.0482] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getNextTrack (112) Fetching new block of events: https://api.radioparadise.com/api/get_block?bitrate=4=0=true=alexa=1800418 Immediately after fetching new block, start seeing this: [19-01-20 18:43:37.6638] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:37.6640] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/5006460.flac?src=alexa): 0.0 [19-01-20 18:43:37.6641] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (258) Scheduling an update for the end of this song: 228 [19-01-20 18:43:37.6647] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:37.6648] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/5006460.flac?src=alexa): 0.0 [19-01-20 18:43:37.6650] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (258) Scheduling an update for the end of this song: 228 [19-01-20 18:43:37.9558] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:37.9560] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime in block (https://audio-3.radioparadise.com/blocks/chan/0/4/5006460.flac?src=alexa): 0.0 [19-01-20 18:43:37.9562] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (258) Scheduling an update for the end of this song: 228 [19-01-20 18:43:37.9567] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (198) Refreshing metadata [19-01-20 18:43:37.9569] Plugins::RadioParadise::ProtocolHandler::getMetadataFor (207) Current playtime

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Radio Paradise Lossless Streaming (Plugin v2)
I finally had the RP stream die on me once today. I was playing it through Squeezelite-X on Win 10 and had to restart the app to clear up whatever confusion was going on in there, as the play button was not responding. Also just now a 20 minute block ended abruptly mid-song, and a new block started with Rebecca's announcement followed by a new track. I suspect those are problems at RP, unrelated to the reports above. I have experienced have been a few similar glitches before, but so rarely I can't remember what they were. I play RP a lot, include an hour in the media room last night, and most of the day at my desk at least a couple days this week. Sure thing. 6 Squeeezebox Touch players, all connecting via wireless bridges (Linksys). I discovered years ago that things ran better if I offloaded the wireless connectivity to an external device (and I could at the same time move the traffic to the 5Ghz band). Windows 10-64 bit server, connecting directly into router via Cat5. Control is via SB remotes, touch-screen on the devices themselves, and occasionally via web browser or app (primarily Squeezer and Squeeze Ctrl). I think I see the metadata request entries in the log you're referring to. Do you think something like Wireshark on the server might be helpful to isolate where the requests are coming from, and if so, can you provide any pointers as to what to look for? Since a few days ago, the FLAC stream is not playing through. Typical behavior: * first song plays to completion * second song cuts off maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of the way through; this is in conjunction with either Bill/Rebecca coming on and doing their announcement, or merely a new block starting * each 20+ min block never completes (even though progress bar typically shows that there is 15+ mins left), but rather cuts off after 2nd song and starts new block. I think this started 2-3 days ago. MP3 streams are fine, and as is the FLAC feed when playing through a browser, so I don't think it's on the RP side of things. Anyone else experiencing this? If so I plan to reinstall LMS for a fresh start (I don't trust my setup after the last Mojave upgrade) Jackisidore's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33885 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108189 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
