Hi everybody. I'm new to Ubuntu and the ubuntu-art community. I'm from Bulgaria, Europe. I will help whenever possibe to make Ubuntu the most beautiful and exciting OS in the world. Now on the topic and the pool I think that the athmosphere of Ubuntu should inspire people to do their job with pleasure and willingness. There is one OS that inspires like that and that is MacOS X. As Mehul told, the best way would be to connect via LAN port. There are 2 methods in ADSL. one is where you connect via LAN card and dialup in the machine. The other is where you give the dialup credentials in the ADSL modem itself. This method will be the most easiet one since the NAT, Default gateway and the DNS caching server is taken care by the modem itself. Hi all, I'm not sure I've mentioned this on the list before but the disc I've been working on to promote Free Culture (incl. free software) is available to download! It's an awesome disc (if I do say so myself!) and the plan is to distribute it to journalists and MPs (+ friends at uni) to help spread the word about free culture and all the amazing stuff that's going on. I'm also making it available to download so that any body can get their hands on it and share it with friends, family, colleagues etc! Feedback is most definitely welcome! Hi, Great idea and kudos to you for getting it all done! Have you thought about campaigning to get your union/university moving towards completely open-source software? I know my uni computers all have openoffice and firefox installed, but numerous warnings appear about the software being unsupported! To keep the discussion alive, here is an example of why I should use windows and not Ubuntu (not that I will). My grandson, a windows user, bought a Freecom Digital TV DVB-T USB Stick Freeview receiver, plugged it in and off he went, no problem. Now, what will I have to do if I want to use one of these devices? He, no doubt, used some software that came with the device, which I don't expect will work with Ubuntu. I shall be surprised if there is an application to do the job built into Ubuntu, so I am prevented from being able to use the device, or am I? How can I find out or, more to the point, why should I go to the bother of finding out? You see, ordinary, domestic, desktop users like me are not interested in servers or programming or using terminals but just in tasks like a bit of word processing, emails, using the internet, handling digital photos and videos a bit of printing, both colour and mono and, perhaps, playing games. There may be other things, which I have missed, but not many. Wouldn't it be great if there were an edition of Ubuntu which catered for these few items as simply as windows appears to do. OK folks, get the knives out and shoot me down in flames. (I know, I have mixed my metaphors). Well, it does take a bit of research before hand. Hauppauge USB freeview receivers work out of the box in Linux. It all depends on the market. need help with the exit menu
Hi, I noticed to day my shutdown button is gone. A few days ago the restart button also disappeared. If these buttons are still there orca doesn't read them. feisty and the braillenote
Does anyone know if the Braillenote can act as a Braille display in Feisty. If so which cable do I use, USB or serial? The USB cable only seems to work when using the Braillenote in serial when running a Windows screenreader. How do you set up Ubuntu for Braille? Do I have to install Brltty with apt before I can run Braille? Oi, Marsswel. Seguinte: eu intalei num Toshiba sem problemas e fiz o particionamento normalmente durante o processo. Só tem um detalhe: há uma chance de ao redimencionar particão NTFS pelo particionador nativo, pode, repito, pode haver perda de dados. Eu redimencionei minhas particões sem problemas. Mas já ouvi relatos de pessoas que perderam os dados do winXP. Então, sugiro q vc primeiro use o Partition Magic que é bastante eficiente, e roda no XP. eu sugiro já fiz algo assim, não sei se foi o correto ou o mais indicado, mas eu fiz o seguinte! já tinha o win instalado e queria por o linux, então eu peguei um programa chamado partition magic, fiz um defrag geral antes, e usei o programa, assim criando as particoes necessarias sem problemas! Olá a todos! Após um congelamento do thunderbird ele não reconhece mais o perfil antigo, de modo que estou sem poder acessar as mensagens antigas, filtros, configurações e etc... Putz, não estou no meu pc... mas tem 4 pastas, duas gnome* e outras duas, uma gconfd, acho, e outra que não lembro o nome, mas é semelhante (todas ocultas do diretório home) que apagadas são criadas automaticamente de novo com a configuração original. Posso ver isso na segunda-feira. Hoje estou num pc com win (da minha filha). Uma coisa que observei é que certos ícones, quando arrastados para a barra de ferramentas do desktop, causam mau funcionamento do gnome-panel... Assim, penso que é recomendável incluir apenas aqueles ícones disponíveis através do menu próprio para tal fim (botão direito na barra de ferramentas) - minha experiência com o 5.10, 6.06 e 6.10. No 6.10, o sjphone, se mantido minimizado, não deixa fazer halt - aparece o aviso sua sessão foi salva e congela. [Ubuntu-BR] Multifuncional epson stylus cx4500 dei xa de funcionar ao atualizar a distribuição
Saudações a todos. Estou com um problema estranho e gostaria de saber se mais alguém também está. Possuo uma multifuncional epson stylus cx4500 que funcinava muito bem no ubuntu 6.10, acontece que resolvi atualizar para versão 7.04 e a partir daí o sistema além de não reconhecer a impressora também passou a apresentar problemas com meu mouse usb. No princípio pensei que fosse minha placa mâe que havia dançado mais reiniciei o computador com o windows e tudo funcionou bem. Pessei que fosse alguma atualização que baixei ultimamante e assim retirei todos os repositórios que não fossem oficiais da minha sourcelist e fiz uma purificação do sistema. Não deu resultuado. Resolvi então dar boot pelo cd do 7.04 e rodar o sistema pelo cd e instalar a impressora. Não deu resultado. Dei boot então pelo cd do 6.10 e rodar o sistema pelo cd e instalar a impressora. Единственная игра в которую играю, много лет ага), хелп ! Скачал HMM3-Linux.iso , смонтировал sudo mount -o loop HMM3-Linux.iso /mnt/cdrom/ потом cd /mnt/cdrom А что дальше??? в ридми написано sh setup.sh делаю - получаю setup.sh: 9: function: not found x86 где копать? Здравствуйте. Мне срочно нужен аналог Teleport-Pro под Линукс. Задача скопировать нехитрые сайты точно так как они есть. Как это можно сделать в линуксе. Kget - не подходит, он берёт содержимое лишь одной директории, к тому же только страницы (без картинок). Forcer l'arrêt d'une application pour désinstallation
Bonjour, voilà je voudrai désinstaller AVG antivirus de mon UBUNTU 7.04 (puisqu'il se confirme qu'il est inutile). Lorsque je désinstalle voici le message d'erreur : E: avg75fld: le sous-processus pre-removal script a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 150 J'ai également constaté qu'il était impossible de l'arrêter même lors de l'arret de l'ordinateur un message d'erreur d'arret apparait. Donc dans un premier temps ma question est comment forcer une application à s'arrêter complètement. Une question subsidiaire, j'ai lu à plusieur reprises qu'un mot de passe root est enti-UBUNTU, pourquoi ? Bonjour J'ai essayé d'installer le paquet tagada, et pour une raison que j'ignore, je ne peux plus relancer Synaptic, voici le message renvoyé: E: Le paquet tagada doit être réinstallé, mais je ne parviens pas à trouver son archive. E: Erreur interne en recalculant le cache des dépendances (1). Veuillez envoyer un rapport d'anomalie. Première question a qui l'envoyé? Donc dans un premier temps ma question est comment forcer une application à s'arrêter complètement. pour arrêter un démon, il doit y avoir une commande sûrement, regarde la *documentation*. si tu ne trouves pas dans ce cas utilise la commande *ps -ax*. elle va t'afficher tous les processus qui sont lancés sur la machine. tu obtiens un truc du genre 29446 ?SNs0:00 /sbin/syslogd -u syslog 1250 ?S 0:00 pickup -l -t fifo -u -c 4363 ?S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mozilla-thunderbird 4367 ?S 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh / 4372 ?Sl 0:07 /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird/mozilla-thunderbird-bin 4382 ?Z 0:00 [netstat] defunct 4521 ?Sl 0:00 gnome-terminal 4522 ?S 0:00 gnome-pty-helper 4523 pts/0Ss 0:00 bash 4536 pts/0R+ 0:00 ps -ax la première colonne te donne un numéro par exemple 4536 pour la commande ps -ax. pour forcer l'arrêt d'un programme tape: *kill le_numéro_du_programme*. c'est l'équivalent d'une fin de tache sous window Une question subsidiaire, j'ai lu à plusieur reprises qu'un mot de passe root est enti-UBUNTU, pourquoi ? Il arrive régulièrement que des applications demande un mot de passe root je crois qu'il y a un wiki sur le site ubuntu-fr http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/sudo mais la dessus je me suis jamais posé la question. sudo a pour moi une utilité sécuritaire. et mon mot de passe utilisateur est suffisamment complexe pour ne pas être trouvé. a moins de le voir tapé. Dans l'affirmative, ca signifie que l'antivirus est démarré avec ce script.. et donc tu peut l'arreter dans un terminal avec la commande : sudo /etc/init.d/NOMDUSCRIPT stop Quand le curseur revient, et qu'il y a pas d'erreur... c'est que le programme est censé être arrété. tu peux le desinstaller normalement. Film sur DVD
Bonjour, Je viens de graver un film sur un DVD avec K3B. Lorsque je veux le regarder sur l'ordi, il le reconnaît et tout va bien. Maintenant, je souhaite surtout le lire avec mon lecteur DVD, mais il ne le reconnaît pas. On m'a dit que cela pouvait être un problème d'encodage. Le format est en.avi. Je pense que mon lecteur ne reconnaît pas ce format. Est-il possible de le changer pour pouvoir le lire sur mon lecteur? Merci de votre aide. Tu avais donc un fichier .avi et tu as voulu le graver, on est d'accord. Ton lecteur DVD de salon s'attend à avoir un DVD au format vidéo correspondant à certaines normes (résolution, encodage, format, structure de fichiers, etc...) Tu dois donc passer par un outil pour ré-encoder ton avi au format DVD standard. Well, my colleague may have found the problem. It seems that it is a kernel configuration since 2.6.17 that is in cause. On my machine, and those of my colleague, setting net.ipv4.tcp_rmem works fine. I've not yet tested on other machines that had similar problem ... To set this configuration, run : sudo sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=0 Or append net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=0 in /etc/sysctl.conf It seems (on french forums) that this configuration coulod affect local wide transfers, in this case, configuration of kernel 2.6.17 is net.ipv4.tcp_rmem=4096 87380 174760.
