Squeezeslave does not have the ability to modified alsa pcm mixers.
It can modify OSS pcm mixers, but you must be using an OSS device and

I've committed the zones patch at r286 as a compile time feature.
You'll need to define -DZONES in the CFLAGS variable

I've installed v1.02 on VMWare Server 1.0.10 and have it running.
There's no squeezeslave binary in the image. I would be better if I
test it using the binary you built. Can you provide a link where I can
download it?

One problem I noticed is that r65 will only work the first time you
play a remote stream after that it will hang since you are using SBS
7.4.x.
You need to use r133 or newer for squeezeslave to work correctly.

I've uploaded both the alsa and oss versions to the 'beta downloads

Did you unmute each slider?
Do you see OO or MM at the bottom of each slider? They should all be
OO.
Pressing the M key on each slider toggles between them.

ad the message 'Retry in 15 seconds.' in
the command prompt, I waited for the player to show up again in the
gui, restarted the previous play list and it worked including the
audio.

patch is just a work around for now. You can just check out -r136 from
subversion if you can't build using the makefile from deprecated
directory I posted earlier.
