You only need the telnet Daemon running if you intend to telnet into
your machine. The Client can run without a local daemon, it just needs
a daemon on the server it wishes to communicate with. Therefore, there
is no need to install the TelnetD package unless you plan to host
telnet services.

You can put linux anywhere you want to on your HD, but the /boot partition must
be below the 1024 cylinder limit. Many users make a 10-12 mb partition near
the front of the drive for /boot and the rest of the linux installation can be
anywhere on the drive.

On the cable modem, I can get 300k/s downloading speed because it is rated
at 10mb downstream. DSL is always rated at kbits like any other internet

Um, yes you do. A client without a daemon is like a key without a lock.
Either way. Linux does not use "telnetd", it uses the superserver "inetd"
and then that calls "in.telnetd" to start the inbound login session. That
is what is installed by the telnet-server rpm.
On my systems, the "telnetd"

I checked with my ISP and found that I have a 468kps d/l link (it is rated at
768kps, but 468kps is the max home speed) and kps is bits not bytes.
I have seen Netscape showing d/l as fast as 66kps (and this is bytes and falls
in line with what my ISP is telling me). So, the 15k remark below see
Of course the client and server are separate packages. However,
telnetd is the telnet Daemon, and is therefore part of the SERVER. You
