There is no problem with giving children two sets of parents and in fact
this is how I handle these situations setting their realtionship to parents
as biological/adopted/foster/step as appropriate.
In reports ensure to check "don't show duplicates" though.

still crashes . Hence the problem must be elsewhere as you suggest.

I suspect that that is the only way ( or at least the most convenient) way
of doing this. Certainly I have not found a way of printing these notes in
the way you wish. This is part of the reason why I tend to use Research
Notes more than any other.
