[313] techasia live
hi.. i just saw thecnasia live yesterday. i was in the most POP party of the world!! really sad.. the scnene in brazil isnt dead, but it would be muc better if it was. considering this, technasia live was a gift! i discovered that they have two tracks that i like a lot. one its swarm with that efect sounding like a good jeff mills track, and the oder is a electro. a great electro, with detroit classic drums. sounding like a red planet or something.. anyone know about this track? the rest of the show was nice too. much more seruious then the rest of the party so it was allready great to me. i dont know technasia discog but i think they played their classics. one of the songs was singed by one of them, and this guy played something like a flute on another song.. a cool song by the way. the show didnt took more than 45 minutes i think. take care u all - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[313] Los Hermanos Re: [313] metropolis screening in the
Hi, I went to the three PM showing and I have to agree that it was an excellent experience. While I was at the shop I picked up UR3000, Los Hermanos, and Update. I am glad that I am not the only one who had problems with the Los Hermanos record. One side is fine, but the other skips in a few places. Regardless, Birth Of 3000 is going to be a hit. I agree, all three of those records will slay the dancefloor. Despite what some of the haters who heard the RA files on this list have said, UR 3000 is a good record. Take care, mt i am on the digest so i don't know if this has already been discussed...but metropolis was sweet. i have never seen the film but felt that even though the movie was cut from 2.5 hours to 60 min, it was complete in plot. plus having jeff mills introduce the film and then answer questions was quite nice. the soundtrack that jeff made finally made sense when added to the edited film. the submerge building is great inside though it still has the old laundry workers union sign on the outside. UR had opened S.I.D. for shopping all day and I picked up the Model 600 Update whitelabel, UR 3000, and the Los Hermanos EP. all three are dancefloor destroyers. i prefer the B side on the UR 3000 EP but both tracks are great. the Model 600 is almost evil electro with strong showings on all four tracks. the Los Hermanos EP was great too, but i think the pressing was bad. there were four or five skips on each side where the needle would jump about 4-5 grooves. did anyone else who has this have similar problems? there was talk of an after party of sorts after the last screening. does anyone know what went on? -sam __ Do You Yahoo!? [313] Pump Up The Volume? - UK tv-special - what happened?
Hey folks... A few months back there was some discussion about this program which aired on UK television... all about house/techno, electronic music roots, etc. It was very informative and I was able to obtain a copy THE FIRST EPISODE in mpeg format. One of the list-members was supposedly mailing a copy of subsequent segments on videocassette [in PAL format, I might add] to someone in the US for encoding on some website or something... for encoding. Well... it doesn't seem like it ever appeared online [afaik]... If it did, great.. someone please e-mail me and put me in my place. =) IF not, I'd really like to get ahold of a dub of the original -- I found a place here where I am locally that will do the PAL -- NTSC conversion for very cheap. I'd also be willing to provide copies to N. American [read: NTSC] listmembers for a nominal fee. So, can someone help me spread the love here? ./peter - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yeah, that's right - Lee helped to start up Smallfish as well (the replacement for Fat Cat), but ended up leaving the fold to work on other stuff. He's involved with Pure Plastic and a range of other UK techno shenanigans these days... his cheeky face is missed behind the counter at Smallfish, and his enthusiastic scrawlings on the 12s from both Fat Cat and Smallfish days are become just as collectable as the music itself (Another solid 4-tracker from the UR boys..., More sampled funkie mayhem on the Dance Mania setup, and his catchphrase: One to check!)... RE: [313] techasia live
There are a couple of Technasia tunes that start off with a killer electro beat and turn into nice textured techno. Here are a couple to try and listen to: Motion - is most likely the tune you are talking about, as it has a real Detroit feel to it, and has good strings ala Red Planet. Also try the Declamation - as it has an incredible buildup of crazy noises with some weird vocal noises. Technasia truly have a sound of their own. The Force was a big favorite around these parts, but not my favorite. Themes from a Neon City has an aggressive techno beat that turns into a REALLY slow Electro tune and then works back into the original fast paced techno again, and Hydra has a very nice tune as well. I'd definitely pay slightly extra for a 12 with a Fat Cat sticker and some of Lee's scrawlings - preferably in thick permanent marker rather than biro! Not sure if I'd pay for a scrawling on its own, but given the choice between a scrawled 12 and a non-scrawled 12 I'd pay a quid or two more for the scrawls... Someone I know (not me, honest) was planning to scan in all the scrawlings they could get and upload them to a website somewhere - anyone who shopped in Fat Cat while it was open would no doubt get a hit of nostalgia from that. look out for the Radioactive Man album (forget the name). Not the most driving electro but one of the best albums for a while all the same; for that matter check out any of the later swordsmen stuff (esp Tiny Reminders or Stay Down) this has the advantage that if you hate it, the house stuff on these albums is second to none. Oh, and if you haven't already heard it Drexciya's Neptune's Lair ('bout a year and a half old) was pretty damn good, though I was a little unimpressed by the newest one. Also try out nearly everything by Anthony Rother or Dopplereffect, and most stuff on viewlexx (especially IF and Parallax corp), Disko-B and, of course, Gigolos for the more, um, playful eighties sound. Paul Innercity should be able to get copies of most of these, and Smallfish will most likely have the Weatherall / Tenniswood ones... happy hunting -s _ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] Josh Wink responds to Dan Bell
From: Ovum Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: Ovum Mailing List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Organization: Ovum Mailing List Subject: Josh Wink responds to Dan Bell For Immediate Release: I was very surprised to learn of Dan Bell's claim that my track called Superfreak infringes on his track entitled Phreak. I did not copy or sample his work and, apart from being of the same genre of music, I don't believe the tracks are similar. Except for Dan, no one else has come to me and said that my track reminded them of Dan's track, and those I know who have heard both tracks, agree with me that the tracks are not similar except for the genre of music. I seldom sample, but when I do, I clear the samples and follow procedures to ensure everything is legal. My Superfreak track is 100% sample free. I am very pleased that the track has promotionally been doing well. I don't know what Dan's motives are in making these claims but it sounds like sour grapes to me. I have known Dan for a while and bear no ill will toward him. However, I do strongly disagree with his claim and his recent tactic of trying to tarnish my reputation in the music industry through mass email mailings and press releases broadcasting his unfounded allegations against me of copyright infringement. Given that Bell has not yet begun a lawsuit, much less won one, it is disturbing to say the least that Bell would stoop to such hurtful and unwarranted mudslinging against a fellow artist. I stand behind the integrity and originality of my Superfreak song without reservation. The letter that Dan wrote to an industry publication regarding his claim against me has gotten a lot of attention. Unfortunately for me and for the music community, it contains numerous inaccuracies and false allegations on top of his baseless claim concerning Superfreak. To highlight a few: -In regard to my track How's Your Evening So Far, Dan is completely off base. My label, Ovum Recordings properly sought to clear the Lil' Louis sample included on the track prior to the release of my record. We agreed to give Lil' Louis 100% of the publishing. An issue arose with the clearance because we had been incorrectly advised that Sony controlled the song for the world when it only controlled it for North America. A lengthy negotiation ensued between Sony and London Records, which published the song outside North America, which held up the release outside North America. However, neither I nor Ovum had resisted giving Lil' Louis proper writer credit for the song. - Dan implies that my track Don't Laugh mimics his track Losing Control. However, I wrote Don't Laugh before I ever heard Losing Control. - Dan suggests that he originated the technique of manipulating a frequency filter over a repeated vocal phrase that on his Losing Control track released in 1995. However, my 1993 track entitled How's the Music, released on Nervous Records NYC in 1994, among others, uses that technique. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Mindgames: Mindgames (H-Productions) Came out about 6 months ago only to get rather lost in the shuffle. Cari Lekebusch on a futuristic UR-styled hi-tech electro funk mission to bring the breakdance back. Lots of tongue-in-cheek humour basslines to die for (all IMHO, of course). The Aux-88 Electroboogie mix slams hard as well. Grab the Aux-88 meets Alien FM cd comp. with Bass Magnetic, My AUX Mind if you ever see it, along with VA: Origins of a Sound/The Electro-Bass Sound of Detroit. Wes np: Adam Beyer: Stockholm Mix Sessions 3 (Turbo)--great to hear the Slater mix of Kenny Larkin's Loop 2 dropped in here, along with a few other Detroit goodies, a stupendous Soul Designer track. One of the best mixes I've heard in ages, to corroborate what others have already said. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] can you feel it? vocal version
I remember this discussion appeared on the 313 list about 2 or 3 years ago. (semi-oldtimer here) :) From what I can recall (wish I knew how to access the 313 archives), I think it was Terrence Parker that cleared the air and said that the acapella originally appeared on a track by a group called Italo Ecstasy and the name of the track was called My House... originally released on XYZ records about 1986. Of course, it was sampled into the Mr. Fingers track and is much more well known being associated with Can U Feel It, but that's the history behind it, from my understanding. Is TP still on the list? Do I have this correct? Re: [313] Knights of the Jaguar cover version
Doesn't sound like the same as the Sony rip-off to me. I could be wrong, though. From what I remember, the Sony version sounded like a clubby-trance remix of the original gone bad. Hmmm... I realize that sounds redundant to some, but it's the best description I can come up with. I agree, whatever it is... it sounds terrible!
