Figured you guys might want to know of a certain longtime 313 listmember playing in the NYC area this thursday night. Hope you can make it. - GO!!! featuring PLACID (acid-house.net / under_score) Placid first came on my radar around 8 years ago, I think. He would post his mixes to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list, and as a huge fan of classic Detroit sounds, as well as acid house from any region, I naturally fell in love with his style. With every mix he posted, I saw more diversity among the styles he would include on his mixes. Wether it was Acid House, Italo Disco, or Minimal techno, he played the best of any genre he dared to play. I could tell that this guy was the real deal. He holds down 2 radio shows, as well as a residency at The Tube in Bristol, where he plays along side Emptyset mastermind, Paul Purgas. He also has been running his acid-house.net site for many years, keeping tabs on all things new and old relating to the wonderful world of the TB-303. I would email him from time to time to see if he was coming to the states to play, and it never seemed to work out. When I started my GO!!! parties, I was absolutely sure I was going to book him. It will be the first time I get to hear him play in person, as well as formally meet him, so needless to say this night will be very special to me. Some in my position might be worried that he won't deliver, but I am not nervous one bit. Guys like Mike Huckaby, Marcel Dettmann, Shed, Kevin Reynolds I-F sing his praises well enough to keep me even more excited! So, join me for my 5th installment of my GO!!! parties, and welcome Placid into your list of favorite DJ's. GO!!! happens on the 2nd Thursday of every month with resident Derek Plaslaiko (Bunker / Spectral) @ APT 419 w 13th st 11 - 4 $10 / 21+

Hi Diana, here is what I replied to someone else who asked about Glasgow recently: Think its been pretty much covered by the others but if your friend wants to check online whats going on there are a couple of local forums where nights are posted (as said the boys in RubADub will be able to give further advise, directions etc if required) http://www.miscreat.com/forums/index.php http://www.slamevents.com/speak/index.html Its a bit early to know what will be on at the end of March (promoters are still trying to get people interested in their February events) but as a general rule Slam/Soma do a big night on the last friday of the month where you are likely to see the big touring names of the moment, pay top doller to get in and have a bad bad crowd (I havnt been to any of their nigghts for many years so the crowd may have changed but I doubt it). Monox do a techno night on the 3rd Saturday of the month where you are more likely to get interesting guests playing at and a far more friendly crowd. Epic in a UR way but housey. Wicked. Kevin Reynolds - Afrik - Todhchai (http://www.discogs.com/release/822073) Difficult to categorize this which is a good sign. The other side is good but Afrik is the track that kills it for me. Organic yet electronic with a nice chugging beatdown tempo. There's no way small clips can do justice to this. Brilliant. Manmadescience - Just tell me when - Philpot (http://www.discogs.com/release/790334) A looped up disco based tune like The Mole might do. Not ground breaking but I'm a sucker for long looped sustained strings. Frank Helby - Tuinstangboogie - Magnetron (http://www.discogs.com/release/917445) Super slow, nasty, heavy and funky. Title track the one. Soulphiction - Get to the Point! - Philpot (http://www.discogs.com/release/166604) Like Shake's 'Madman' but erm, different. Check it. The Philpot guys tread just the right side of the mnml line for me, this is another twist along that line. Trusme - Brown's - StilovefortheMusic (http://www.discogs.com/release/895435) More tracks heavily based on disco samples. All are winners. Good God being the closest to KDJ in style. The main Nard's track builds on some ace strings before settling into a C2 style. From Manchester too :) Dub in A Nutshell - You Never Know - Philpot (http://www.discogs.com/release/471762) Off a compilation but this is the standout for me. Paul St. Hilaire and Soulphiction. What more do I need to say. Lee Jones - There Comes a Time - Aus Music (http://www.discogs.com/release/906233) There's a Prins Thomas mix on here that a lot of people will pick this 12 up for which is slow and grinding (in a Radio Slave kinda way). The Original mix is a nice deep techno thing with alow tempo that shouldn't be overlooked. Anyone else? robin...

Hi Francis, im pretty sure that the Pacou mix came from the discogs forum initially - I had a quick search and can find reference to the mix but not a tracklisting, im sure that with a bit more digging you will get it there or on Little Detroit. Cheers BT --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Title says it all really. I've said on this list before I seem to spend all my time listening to clips of new 12s at record shop sites. Often with little reward as there doesn't seem that much good new stuff out to justify doing that, instead of what I should be, which is: 1. Listening to the good records I did actually buy but am too busy listening to clips of more stuff to have actually played. 2. Listening to mixes I'd enjoy - and which when I actually do I generally get more exposure to good records I haven't heard and should set about buying (albeit 2nd hand and a bit harder to track down) than I do from shops. So the only time I seem to do 2 above is when I'm on holiday. After a month in Cuba last year I found a load of stuff I want to know about off those Deep Space Radio shows from a bit back. I came on here and said I'd cut and post clips. But surprise, surprise as soon as I'm back in the UK working, going out and listening to [EMAIL PROTECTED] shop's mailouts I've no time. Now I've come back from a month in Brazil with more stuff I've heard on my mp3 player and want to know what it is and buy! My only hope in the most pressing of these cases, 2 tracks from a mix of C2 stuff by Pacou called Pacou_-_CarlCraigWorks, is that rather than me having to get round to posting clips someone else knows this mix (I can't remember if I got it off here or somewhere else) and can tell me what the tracks at about 53 and 58 mins are. They sandwich one of the well known 69 tracks from RS (though I can't remember which one now) which is on around 55 mins. Anyone got a tracklist for this mix? I was frightened when I listened to it as I went in thinking oh yeah I'll know everything on this since I'm a C2 man but it'll be nice to lay in this hammock listening to one classic after another only to find quite a few I didn't know. But they have a pattern, they have a similar beat, which gradually winds its way up with a hook from the original vocal (if there was one) and then it reaches a crescendo just when the needle hits the run out groove. Just to echo what Robin said (although I think you missed Malik doing the first 1.5 hours of the night). I dont get why he goes on first, he was killing it, then Theo came on and someone really does have to tell him that a bit of EQing is OK but stop it with the Stevie Wonder impressions and get on with playing records. KDJ was what I expected, perhaps a bit better even to be honest, good tunes but no real structure or direction. Wilhite was really good too - but the star of the show for me was Malik, no doubt. Good to meet Robin, Francis, Nick and Dan and also catch up with Alex ACME Bond again. Might come down for another one of these Warehouse parties before the end of the year. There's bit of direct 313-relevance too in the Common Factor track. Even without it, you're looking at 12 excellent electronic tracks, quite a few fathoms deep each, spread luxuriously out on 3 slabs of heavy plastic. On the whole, it's one to add to your wish list I'd say. And I even hear that the White Vinyl edition sounds great! (The black vinyl does too.) I have no qualms against admitting I'm biased - I know the act called VLF (which includes 313's own Emile Facey AKA Plant43 and his partner Jo Johnson.) Naturally, their track is the best! ;-). It's called 'Ground Wave A)' (note, that's the correct way of rendering the name, with the lone 'close brackets'.) THE WAREHOUSE PROJECT October 6th – December 31st 2006 www.thewarehouseproject.com http://www.thewarehouseproject.com Manchester UK “For twelve weeks this city is ours” We can now reveal the venue and the majority of the night time line-ups for Manchester’s most ambitious music experience yet. Between Friday 6th October Monday 1st January ‘The Warehouse Project’ will be taking over an incredible warehouse space in Manchester’s city centre for what will be a new twist to the festival and club/gig experience. Things are hotting up now as Manchester gets ready for 12 weeks of warehouse action. With the venue now revealed as The Old Brewery (formerly the Boddingtons Brewery) one of Manchester's most iconic landmarks, its time to start spreading the word. Everybody from Manchester knows this legendary site, with its towering chimney peering out over the city, where they made that legendary tonic for over 250 years. For three months we take a piece of the cities most cherished heritage and catapult it into the twenty first century. We couldn't possibly have asked for a more perfect backdrop for the first Warehouse Project. The site actually consists of two warehouses, One slightly larger than the other. The larger of the two was where they actually used to make the beer and was known as The Racking Hall, the other is the cold store where the kegs were stored. We have named this one The Box. Most events will feature both, however one or two special events, such as the eagerly anticipated 3 Chairs event, we felt a smaller more intimate vibe suited, so these will just take place in The Box. We will be releasing pictures of the venues online at thewarehouseproject.com over the next few days. The moment it all kicks off has now actually been brought forward by 24hrs so we can feature one of the most iconic bands of all time. The legendary Public Enemy will be the first to headline the stage in The Racking Hall. After this comes an onslaught of 25 events, each unique in terms of musical direction and each unmissable in its own right. We've tried to make the programme as eclectic as possible, with artists from all over the world heading up the party and with us only having these twelve weeks to play with we’ve gone all out to make it as special as it can be. There are still several musical giants from whom we are still awaiting final confirmation, and one or two that we have purposely held back for now. All additions to the line-up will be announced in the coming weeks. Its never been done quite like this before. Some people have been asking why its only going on for these three months. The truth is that it will be something that is here and then gone very quickly. While it lasts it will be truly amazing and nobody will even have the chance to get bored of it. Since the idea for the project was first revealed several months ago, the slogan has been ‘For twelve weeks this city is ours...’ Manchester is back. Now in October 2006 the Warehouse Project will help to inject some life back into The Old Brewery renowned for the ‘Cream of Manchester’ by inviting the cream of global dance music’s DJ, live acts and artists to stage a series of individually themed club and gig nights from October 6th to the end of the year. When I was in Berlin in September I only got to catch the last three tracks, so was really happy to see the whole show, even if the crowd was quite Fabric-y. They really went for it live and they played really well as a band. I also had a couple of friends visiting from Detroit, who were really happy to see these guys in London. They really enjoyed it as well. I only caught a bit of S2 before-hand. He was good, and very tight in the mix, but I was pretty exhausted, so I only checked him for a bit. Re: (313) Saunderson not doing Fuse-In?
This came out on the Fuse-in mail out last week, I didnt forward it since I guessed that most people on here would have been signed up to it already. Ladies and Gentleman; I know many of you want to know whats going on with the festival for 2006. I cannot tell you for sure, but I have been told that the City of Detroit is in negotiation right now and are only considering companies that can pay for the festival expenses out right. Which I believe is a wise decision. This festival needs financial stability. Unfortunately with our greatest efforts, we could not achieve what was necessary to continue to produce the festival in 2006. Here are some of the facts why, questions and answers: Q: How many people attended the festival this year? A: We sold 41,000 tickets this year. That translates to 37,000 1 day tickets and 4,000 Multi day tickets. Q: Are the numbers down from previous years? A: Yes, but just slightly. Comparing beer revenues from 2004 to 2005 suggests we really only had approximately 50,000 people in 2004. This does represent a small decline. Q: So was the festival successful? It sounds like you a lot less people than in the past. A: Considering the planning window we had put this thing together, we think the festival was incredibly successful. In addition, our numbers this year, and the fact that Hart Plaza capacity is less than previously thought suggest that our earlier festivals did not have 1,000,000 people in attendance as previously reported. Q: Did charging for the festival have a big impact? A: We surveyed festival goers and they told us that they thought ticket prices were extremely reasonable. The smaller than expected ticket sales were caused partly by inaccurate counts from previous festivals and partly from our own overly optimistic goals for this years festival. Finally, the biggest factor in lower ticket totals was our inability promote ,because we were only approved for the permit 9 days before the event. This made advance ticket sales and fundraising nearly impossible, so we couldnt do follow through on our advance marketing program. The other sign that our issue was promotion was the fact that in previous years there were a much larger number of out of town guests. To be successful, this festival needs to be promoted starting in November. Q: How will you pay the invoices of the vendors? Many say they havent been paid. A: Yes, there are several vendors that MusicLogical still owes money. My intention was to bring a partner with some financial stability and resources in to partner up with MusicLogical and relieve the debts from the 2005 Fuse-In festival, but at this point we have not been able to achieve that. Q: Are you saying you lost money? A: Yes, because of lack of promotion time on the festival, the festival sold less tickets generated less revenue than we would have hoped. The costs were tight and we had a very good handle on the operational aspects of this event. This was not about our operation of the event it was about not having enough time to properly market the event and draw the crowds that still want to hear our music. I believe people would be surprised at how tightly this festival was run and how organized the entire effort really was. If we had 10,000 more foreign visitors, not only would we have broken even, but the city of Detroit would have received that economic spillover as well. Q: Can the festival have financial success? A: Yes, absolutely. If it is run as well as we ran it, and if it was started 6 months earlier (assuming the weather was positive) it would absolutely make money, and be able to generate cash that the City could use to help rebuild Hart Plaza for other festivals. This is too great a festival to keep down. If the city would allow enough time to promote it by awarding the festival permit months in advance instead of days in advance, this festival could continue to bring music and dollars downtown for years to come. As an ambassador of our music (Techno) and our city (Detroit), I will continue to do whatever I can to spread the word throughout the world. Yours Truly Kevin Saunderson --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I couldn't believe it actually made it into the Minneapolis newspaper but there was a little blurb in the Sunday's issue about Kevin Saunderson not doing the festival this year. He's apparently $250,000 in the hole from last year. There wasn't much more news than that. Anyone else see anything more? Sounds like the fest is on its way to become corporate or kaput. MEK

Im sure I heard somewhere that Lee had something to do with them too Cheers BT --- Lance @ Inaudible [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: he's still running his quite large video production company, involved with productions even in America he said on a radio interview last friday, but as i asked him where he'll play further on, he said he just plays three or four times a year. it's just that people having him invited to play at Amsterdam and Frabic recently, and seeing people really enjoyed so much, that he felt reassured to do a mix set around where the idea of a Party is still in sync with his. Umm.. did I say in-sync? Their 'Storm' passed by in his saturday night set. What a track! Oh my yes... the builds on Storm are epic. I'm a big fan of In-sync, aka Lee Purkis', productions. Back in the early 90s he ran a great label called 10th Planet which featured a half-dozen or so releases all In-sync related with the best being the Android Architecture album. Lee also released a nice record on the Plink Plonk label under the name MASP and was co-producer for the excellent Joe Louis End of the Beginning album on Fragmented and Back to the Beginning 12 on Relief. Rumor has it (according to discogs.com) that the music on those Joe Louis releases was taken from a DAT given to Joe Lewis when he was in the UK in 1995 by Jamie Read. The DAT contained music made during a period when Read was recording at the studios of 10th Planet with Lee Purkis, Chris Hartley and David Manuel (the 3 of whom ran 10th Planet and recorded as Insync vs. Mysteron). Read was keen to have his music released on Relief, a label with cult status in the underground UK scene. He gave the DAT, which contained music that had been worked on by all four aforementioned artists, to Joe Lewis for the purpose of giving to Relief as potential material for the label. Some time later these tracks appeared on Relief as a Joe Louis release, with no credit to the people who actually produced them. 10 years later (2005) Peacefrog Records in the UK inadvertently released a further batch of tracks from the DAT on a 12 entitled He's Back and an album entitled The Return Of Joe Lewis, which was released on both vinyl and CD. Anybody know what Lee Purkis is up to these days? Also, any comments on the recent Joe Lewis releases on Peacefrog? are they like the Jamie Reid or Insync releases? it's surprising to hear that Peacefrog and/or Joe Lewis is releasing another artists work and not giving any credit to the original producers. For some Frank De Wulf relevance, just last week i took for a spin the Frank De Wulf remixes of The Orb's Blue Room, The Shamen's L.S.I., and Model500's The Flow. hi James, was it this one http://www.discogs.com/release/14671 If so, depending on the price I would have said pick it up. Pretty sure ive got it somewhere. Cheers BT --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Came across an old compilation in a second-hand store that had early stuff like Octave One's 'I Believe' on it, Jay Denham and Mark Kinchen amongst others. There was no listening facility in the shop so I didn't take the risk. Thanks, James ** The information in this e-mail is confidential and may be legally privileged. Talking about Emporium50 if Mike Grant is still on here (or if anyone else has any info) I noticed today while having a look there are a bundle of mix CD's available there now. Any chance of giving a little bit of a hint as to what sort of stuff to expect on each? From my little knowledge some of the guys with CD's available play a variety of styles of music so it would be nice to have an idea before I order blind. Cheers BT --- Thomas D. (313) Blaze in London
I think it was Ken who was talking abut Blaze not playing out - well dont know how I ended up on this mailing list but it looks as though they are playing Turnmills on the Saturday of the bank holiday weekend.. On Saturday 27th August Blaze make a rare UK performance as they make their debut at Turnmills. Blazes contribution to House music is epic boasting one of the most impressive bodies of production spanning from Lisa Stansfields' pop dance hit People Hold On to their own classic Can't Win for Losing they have been at the forefront of the house music. Blaze aka Josh Milan, Kevin Hedge and Chris Herbert started writing music together in 1984. Childhood friends who met at their local church choir, Chris was a vocalist who wanted to record, Josh was a natural musician who played with the church choir and Kevin was a DJ who spun locally at parties around their native Newark, N.J. The three decided to form a production team after Chris introduced Josh and Kevin and encouraged them to became a recording group. Blaze has influences that run from Stevie Wonder to James Taylor to John Coltrane and beyond. But it is the deeply soulful melodies, their blend of Afro, Jazz, Soul and Gospel added with, the positive world view in their lyrics, influenced heavily by their childhood heroes Earth, Wind Fire. While their older friends danced the night away in NY clubs like Zanzibar and the Paradise Garage, Blaze began to lay down the prototype of their sound assimilating the music of the day and adding a more electronic and fundamentally RB based spine. With DJ Kevin at the controls, Josh the piano man on the synthesizer and the lead vocal stylings of Chris, they turned out song after song for other artist and producers to record. Some included This Time by Colonel Abrams knock off Hunter Hayes, One Man by Chanelle and Reachin' by Phase II. The three ultimately signed their first record deal with the newly formed Quark records in '85, producing three major club hits of the time; Whatcha Gonna Do, If You Should Need A Friend and Can't Win For Losing. After 19 years on the scene Milan and Hedge are still producing relevant hits today as they did back in '85. In their own words they see themselves as tools being used by the universe helping to bring lyrical messages and melodies to the world, music is communication. Ideas come to us from the spirit of creation.. Over the past year they have come out of their self imposed exile to in NY for some exclusive dates and Turnmills represents the last time to catch Blaze this year! Joining Blaze is another of New Yorks musical luminaries Kenny Dope Gonzalez. Together with recording partner Louie Vega there has been no greater presence in house music for over a decade. As producers, their style and stunning polished production saw them remixing dance acts and pop starts alike, utilising their soulful DJing style, whilst as individuals their DJ performances continue to enthral crowds. Whilst Louie comes from a soulful, Kennys versatility is his talent. Fusing dirty Chicago and Hip-Hop beats to his house music sound with sunning technical ability, Kenny is a Master at Work. Get down for this monumental sound clash. Cheers BT

Re: (313) RE:UR in Minneapolis in October
Hi Ken, I believe the french guys were DJ Julien Gonzague. They were originally scheduled to play between DJ 3000 and SK (http://www.bigchill.net/story.html?id=1380) but were pulled from the schedule. However they already had their plane tickets and turned up anyway so the UR guys shortened their sets to allow them to go on first - thats what I was told anyway. I was at the festival too - appologies to Mr Dan Bean as I had said I would meet up with him but I didnt manage to find the radio station (would have been good to see you again too Ken of course). Highlights for me of the weekend would be DJ 3000, Suburban Knight, Osunlade and Larry Heard. Cheers BT --- Ken Odeluga [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Just literally this minute got back From The Big Chill festival were these two chaps played. They also came and did a back-to-back set for Big Chill Radio (where I was working) so I got to chat to them at length, especially DJ3000. They seem to be friendly, down-to-earth, unpretentious blokes, with good senses of humour. Watch out for 3000, there's a rich seam of influences in him which will produce some interesting stuff, I'm sure. The eastern European influence - he's of Albanian extraction - is becoming evident in his recent music, I feel. But at the same time, it's obvious from his accent that he hangs around with a lot of African Americans, not to too fine a point on it. There's no doubt, he's being groomed by the more senior UR members to be one of the next generation of representatives. He and James Pennington played a smart set of electro-funk old and new, especially in the radio studio. It was a lot of fun and such an antidote to rather too much of the 'Berlin-by-numbers' which I almost feel spoon-fed at the moment. Look out for 3000's mix CD 'Perseverance'. I'm listening to a promo now and it's a good showcase of his current style. By the way, does anyone know who are the two French guys who were just signed to Axis? They were in the UR entourage but I didn't get to talk to them. Maybe someone mentioned their names, but I've forgotten, alas. Ken Music is an open sky. http://bleep43.com
