(313) [Detroit] Goodnight Comrade w/Keith Tucker - Tonight, Friday 2nd September 2005
Denis Baldwin Jr - friend to many, acquaintence to all. You've heard the rumors, and it's true - he's moving to Florida. We're not exactly sure why.. but he's going, and we're sending him off properly. GOODNIGHT COMRADE a farewell to a friend http://sneak.datavibe.net/misc/flyers/20050902-goodnight-comrade Friday, 2nd September, 2005 CE 10PM-10AM, free At the Focus Media Bunker: 440 E. Lafayette (above Niki's Pizza and the Bouzouki) Detroit, Michigan (877) 748-3467 (my (sneak's) cell for directions or assistance) This evening, for your listening pleasure, we have worked quite dilligently to arrange for the following lineup: * Keith Tucker ** Aux88/Puzzlebox * Benji Hayes ** Focus Media * Darkcube ** Detroit Techno Militia * Dethlab ** DoyleBethany * [EMAIL PROTECTED] ** hey, that's me * 'stos ** Fistclencher Records (also, if you're reading this via 313kids, your friendly neighborhood list admin!) * T. Linder ** Detroit Techno Militia I've spent the whole day doing the usual party preparation thing - moving huge cabinets filled with gigantic speakers about from place to place, connecting large rubbery cables from oversized amplifiers to said cabinets, buying vast reserves of liquor and that weird 7.3% canadian beer, disposable plastic cups, ice, et cetera, and generally freaking out. Much effort is being expended to ensure that everyone that attends has as much fun as we are by doing all of this. Additionally, we strongly recommend that before you come to be assaulted by the waves of bass eminating from our WTF Soundsystem, that you go and visit our friends Derek Plaslaiko and Ryan Elliott over at Vault at Oslo this same evening put together by those fine gentlemen at Ghostly. That's going to be awesome too and we're all sad we can't be in two places at once. I'm going to bed because tomorrow is going to kill us all. See you there. Love, -j -- Rev. Most isopropanol sold in the states is already diluted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropanol I would be careful, though, as I can neither confirm nor deny whether isopropanol will dissolve PVC. Most web sites suggest a similar formula (some even up t1o 1: mixtures of isopropanol and distilled water), but personally I'm wary. Any records I've had that have become super-dirty I've just cleaned using cold tap water and fingers (or a soft toothbrush, in extreme cases), followed by shaking and/or paper toweling them dry, and a once-over with a dry record cleaning tool to pick out any paper towel dust. - -j - -- - Rev. Just a thought. I came up with the exact same idea on Monday, after being hassled for the umpteenth time by one of the same dozen bums that's ALWAYS wandering around downtown. Forget the $500k it'd bring to the funding... the real benefit would be keeping out the bums. Technically, even someone who just carries in their DAT and hits play and stands there staring out at the crowd is 'performing'. I'm not going to take sides in the it's all about the music debate, but don't say that someone who stands motionless and stares unblinkingly at a laptop for an hour is any less of a performer than the most visible and energetic of trick djs. They're certainly not as -good- of a performer, but they are covered equally by the definition of the word. I think that this would be a non-issue if people who do, for example, laptop PAs, projected their video output on a screen behind them so you can see what they're doing. It's a lot more difficult giving the crowd something to look at if you're not doing something on a flat horizontal surface. Most performers who don't play records forget this all too often. Now for my personal opinion: Do you have 10kW of sound in your basement? How about a few hundred people? Yeah, I didn't think so. Give me 'Play' on the DAT out in a condusive environment any day over armchair listening. -j -- Rev. Anything beyond +2 irritates people with perfect pitch, +4 or greater starts sounding pretty awkward. you could pitch the record up or down when digitizing it (only down would be functionally effective when recording originally from vinyl, anyways, for purposes of resolution in the digital copy) and then be able to pitch it another +/-4 (assumming factory-default decks) when playing it back with FS... or adjust it digitally with audio-editing software once you've recorded it (only pitching it up is advisable, at that point). (side note for the gearheads: in some of my more nitpicky and/or obsessive moments, i've digitized tracks that i want really nice copies of at -16 (with the slider set to +/-16) and then digitally downsampled them (using a nice, high-quality algorithm in a professional audio-editor) to circa the proper speed. in my mind it makes for better recordings, but it could be psychosomatic. it makes any pops or clicks from scratches or deeply-ingrained (that didn't make it out in the pre-recording wash) dirt less audible as well. ) -j Jeffrey Paul -datavibe- [EMAIL PROTECTED] aim: x736e65616b phone: 130*21*16749 or 877-748-3467 - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Besides, running beos on powerpc to run final scratch wouldnt hardly be a 'mac version'. Even if BeOS did run on a mac though, final scratch won't, unless they specifically release powerpc-beos binaries (yeah right). All this is moot though, nobody but bald geeks with weird glasses will run beos on their laptop just for final scratch anyways. However, to be honest, you don't want to run this system under windows or mac os ANYWAYS. one of the most amazing things about the beos is its natural audio latency time. STANDARD this OS spits out audio at THREE MILLISECONDS. 3 ms. Think about that one more time. That means the ONLY time a dj is going to really noticed any latency is when he's doing some heavy scratching, and minute at best. When you look at windows with its 35ms on a great day latency, you see why this system needs to be run on be os. a) it's not that amazing b) it's not unique to beos c) 35msec latency is approaching noticible, but for djing purposes, wouldn't affect anyone except those doing lots of scratching. Besides, with a program specifically written to be a realtime application, it would much likely be a half to a third of that, which is virtually unnoticable. this is possible on both macos and all versions of windows. -j Jeffrey Paul [EMAIL PROTECTED] (877) 748 3467 ICQ: 14295546 AIM: kw34hd1 NXTL/DC: 130*21*16749 PGP: 0xF50BB9D7 A21AFD828C30EC77545DA0B3F501F50BB9D7 - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

To answer someone else, if you chop it in an audio editing program pre-burning, then load all the tracks in to your burning software, and make sure you burn DAO (Disc-At-Once) with zero-second gaps between tracks (the redbook specification requires a 2 sec gap before track 1, so for everything but the first) it should burn with no blips between tracks, provided you didnt fux up the slicing in your audio editing program. If you're really anal though, one might consider using distilled water, as there's chlorine and traces of other corrosive things in tapwater, but i'm doubtful it'd hurt anything. I gather most people dont have access to ultra-pure micrometre filtered autoclaved water which is totally 100% pure, and unlikely to react with anything. I'm not sure about sterile (autoclaved), but distilled water is available at the supermarket in big jugs, which should be straight-up h2o. -j -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 0x514DB5CB he who lives these words shall not taste death becoming nothing yeah yeah forever liquid cool

What file format are you referring to, or are you making this up as you go? by 'dvd-quality-sound', you either mean 5.1 surround (which doesn't directly benefit this appliction, although might have neat uses), or the fact that each channel is 48khz (dat quality). CDs are 44.1khz, which is nearly indistinguishable from 48. IIRC, MP3 supports 48khz sampling rate files. If I'm wrong, and it 'only' supports 44.1khz, then it's still not that much of an audible difference. If you're talking about DTS, that's an entirely different can of worms and is still years off from having reasonably priced computer equipment that can input/output that kind of sound. and no one will want to use the present format anymore. MP3 supports the audio quality formats (16/48/stereo) that people have been using for years (15 years if you count 44.1, which is what CDs are). To claim it's going to just 'go away' in the next 2 is kind of absurd. vinyl has stood the test of time, and it isn't going to disappear anytime soon. As have CDs, which the huddled masses have eaten up as the end-all to audio quality. -j
