Immigrant

2000-09-20 Thread Myke Mitchell
Hey all, just wondering if anyone can recommend any labels are are similar
in style to Immigrant and Intrinsic Design. Both seem to be on the techier
side of the 'tech-house' genre and really hit home for me. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Surgeon

2000-09-27 Thread Myke Mitchell
Hey all, just thought I'd try and spark a little discussion here. I was
going through some of my old vinyl and pulled out Surgeon's 'Comunication'
album on Downwards from '96. DAMN, that's a KILLER album that I don't think
I've heard anyone talk about yet. All tracks on this album are worthy of
play. Wish he would do some work these days with that older feel to it, I
love that stuff. Speaking of Surgeon albums, besides that and
'Basictonalvocabulary' has he released any other LP's?? Anyways Anthony
Childs should be held up there with the Techno greats in my opinion.

Re: [313] Ben Sims

2000-10-11 Thread Myke Mitchell
I don't think anyone was trying to call Ben Simms 'innovative', he's
supposedly a great DJ, and produces some nice tracks (nothing special, but
they get your ass shake'n, and that's usually what the DJ is supposed to
do). Sometimes I think people listen too hard at the music, listen with
your ears and ass, not your intellectualism - leave that for home listening.
 Just me 2 cents.

MM

- music is subjective, don't make it a science. For if you do, the science
will turn what we love into some specific mold, and that's exactly what
'they' want.

hopefully he deejay's better than produces; i mean mixing up old '88
houseloops with bassline samples and hooks from few year old housetunes
and mixing them up with slammin bassdrum can't be described
"innovative". at least i don't think so. sampling is good, but sampling
stuff too obvious is quite annoying.

New Records

2000-11-24 Thread Myke Mitchell
Hey all, just thought I'd drop a little blurb about some new records I
picked up yesterday.

1. Gataeno Parissio - SouthSoul: mew sublabel of conform where Gataeno takes
things to the funky side. Killer basslines on top of some aggressive
percussion make this a double pack not to be missed by anyone. A little
lighter than previous Gataeno releases, on the tech-house tip, but ALL
quality cuts on this album - the funk returns!

2. Marco Carolla + ? Sasse - i220 (Sasse:Fusion 2LP): a house excursion for
marco and this aother producer who I have never heard of (Sasse). All
smooth straight up house, a few tracks go a little harder into the
percussion side of things, but all tracks retain a real nice sense of
smoothness that will have house-heads begging for more. 1 track on here by
Marco (I believe it's the B:2 track) that was released last year on a white
lable I belive. If you like house, this is a must, great production as
always by Carolla, pick this up if you see it.

3. Arrival Works (Dave Rosieux) - some nice percussive work outs here from a
producer who I have seen before but never really paid much attention to.
Minimal techno on the percussive tip with nice synths brooding over top to
give it the perfect balance of hard and soft - a must to check out.

anyone else check out any of the above mentioned records?? Pretty good week,
I was pretty impressed!

On the party tip - Gataeno Parisso, Kenny Glasgow, Jay Hunsberger tonight in
K-Town, nice small, intimate space (about 250 capacity). Tickets on sale
now at Speed K-Town ($10), more at the door. This is going to be a night of
GREAT music, especially if Gataeno's new Album is any indication of what he
will be playing. Come out, dance to some great music and meet some
like-minded people. Added bonus is that it's my birthday, so come buy me a
drink :) Hope to see some of you out, pieces..

Top 10

2001-04-20 Thread Myke Mitchell
Have to make a correction to my top ten, the Primevil record is by dan
simmers and is called 'Sharing Grooves' not 'The Groove'. And the seasons
record I bought was remixes of the 2nd Shift track by Freaks and Carter
(pretty sick!).

On a side note, kinda OT but does anyone have any info on a label called
Lask, I have the first record and it's pretty nice. Now to turn things back
to Tha'D, can anyone ID a track, the only place where I've heard it is on a
TrackMode record by Rick Wade (I'm pretty sure it's a Rick Wade track), it's
a double pack and the track it's in is called Rick Wades MegaMix, the only
way I can describe it is that it has this piano rift with effects that just
keep repeating the same chords except changing key every now and then,
really groovy track. Anyone have any idea's, I know the description is
kinda vague, but. any takers?? Thanks all...

X2 - Wednesday April 25th

2001-04-20 Thread Myke Mitchell

Begin Transmission from Militia Headquarters/

After seeing the effects of the 'puppet-masters' on our unsuspecting
Brethren, the Militia have decided to take the experiment to the next and
logical stage - implementation. The Militia have been working with a band
of scientists in your area who call themselves 1 TRAK. This group of
scientists will be the first to implement stage one of operation 'Renewal'.
This will consist of a sonic bombardment with specially constructed rhythms
which will proceed to reshape the neural pathways of the participants in
such a way as to prevent the implant (implanted at birth by the
'puppet-masters') from controlling the thought process. This in turn will
empower the participants with 'free-will'. Stage 1 will begin on Wednesday
April 25th at the designated portal - Times Square [35 King St.N - Waterloo,
Ontario, Canada]. Donations of $5 are required, this is for R&D for stage
2. It's the Militia's goal to free the minds of sonically advanced
individuals thereby regaining the hi-jacked audio channels talked about in
an earlier transmission. Once these channels have been taken back, stage 2
will begin. Now the proposed schedule for delivery of the sonic
reconstruction:

10pm - Wren [1 TRAK]
11pm - Colin [1 TRAK]
12:30 - Michigan Myke [1 TRAK]

More to come from headquarters..

/end transmission.

Sorry if you've received this more than once, my mail seems to be acting

Re: Lask

2001-04-20 Thread Myke Mitchell

Yeah, the release I have is quite good as well, I just pulled it out
yesterday while spinning some records at home, as this one Delano track
which is salsa influenced is just killer, works great in the mix! Speaking
of Inside, haven't seen anything off of that label in a while - anyone know
what Joel is up these days??

I have some older stuff on Jericho that's fairly good, haven't picked up
anything on this label for a while.

Here's another question - can anyone point out some good Savvis Yatis
tracks, that track he has on that Tresor comp that came out last year, I
think the track is called 'Mars bar', very nice deep track - any

recommendations?? Thanks...

Gary Martin - Black Forest

2001-04-30 Thread Myke Mitchell

Hey all,

I saw an earlier post about Gary Numan - I picked up a 12" while down in
Tha'D last year for the Plus 8 party by Gary Martin (?) on Technotika
records, has 3 nice tracks - 2 more on the house tip, and 1 real nice
hypnotic tribal number on the flip - a real killer. Can anyone recommend
anything else by Gary Martin, more along the lines of the tribal-tech-funk
that I heard on this 'Black Forest' EP?? ThanksÂ…..

(313) help needed!

2000-01-24 Thread Myke Mitchell
Hey all, just a couple of quick questions. I'm ordering online for the
first time and just wondering if Sonic Groove is all good. Should I have
any concerns, etc with the way they do business?? How long does it take for
you to get your records??

Also a couple of questions regarding tracks. Does anyone on the list know
the title of the LP that came out 2 or 3 years ago (maybe more) on Rotation
records that was played all over the place. If I'm not mistaken it's a
double pack (but am not sure). It's a slamm'n techno track that I must get,
so any help on this would be much appreciated. I think it *might* be 'The
Subjective' (AKA The Advent) 'Tremmer' LP but am not completely sure. Maybe
one of you could direct me to a site where they have RA samples of older
Rotation stuff?

One last thing, does anyone out there know what G-Man 'The Art of War' EP is
like?? Is it classic G-Man on the minimal funk tip, is it worth picking up,
what's it comparable with??

All help is GREATLY appreciated, thanks in advance.

The End Recordings - Question

2000-04-03 Thread Myke Mitchell

Hey all just a quick question:

I was at a record store the other day and came across this piece of vinyl,
the sleeve was a very dark grey with some dark writing on it, 'The End
Recordings'. Turns out it was a track done by Mr. C (presumably the Label
Owner), and a remix by Juan Atkins. The title escapes me right now, but I
was wondering if anyoen out there could give me a recommendation, or maybe
even a quick review of this piece of vinyl. The place where I was had no
listening stations so I couldn't listen to it there.

1: Smokers Delight [Nightmares On Wax]
2: Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
3: Josh Wink - Profound Sounds Vol. 1

The first CD is from 95 and is basically a downtempo delight, the title says
it all - anybody else checked this out?!?! I picked up the Miles Davis Cd
cuz I haven't really explored Jazz as much as I should, and seeing that Jazz
had a big influence on techno and house as I have learned from the list, I
thought I should check this out. The 3rd CD, Josh Wink is actually really
good. It has some great tracks including a Gez Varley track, a track by
Heiko Laux and Johannes Heil, and some more worth while tracks on there.
Anybody else listen to this?? Anyways I'm pretty happy with me selection
seeing as I haven't bought anything besides vinyl for at least 4 or 5 months
;) Anyways..

enjoy, a 'thanks' if you will for everyone who have helped make our night a
success. We are labeling it "Battle of the Residents", Jay Hunsberger of

Hey all, another Wednesday and another installment of 1 TRAK. Tonight we
have a special free event celebrating Gary's birthday (one of the
promoters). For your listening pleasure we have Jay Hunsberger of Cynosure
fame, then coming up, a battle - Mike Shannon again of Cynosure fame and
Michigan Myke going at it head to head. Come on out, it's free so you can't
beat that and drinks as always are a decent price for a nice sized pint.
Doors open at 9:30 and goes till @ 2:30. Stop on in and wish Gary a happy
B-day, without him 1 TRAK wouldn't be possible. Anyways hope to see some of
yas out. Pieces.

Hey all, just an early reminder that this week at 1 TRAK is the 'all mighty
Milligan' aka Algorhythm. Warming up the decks for Mr. Milligan will be
yours truely, hopefully we will have 3 decks set up for both Mr. Milligan

to see some you guys and girls out, and to all who have been coming out to
make 1 TRAK a successful event we thank you very much. So come out, drink a
pint and dance to some quality beats, thanks for your time.

Inc, 'A Fist Full of DAT Tape'?? It has 2 'tools' on there, nothing like
his new i220 release, but good non the less. Anyways.
