(313) 313 role call
Hey all, new to 313 by about 2 days. 21 from Pittsburgh, PA and was converted to Detroit about two and a half years back by Shawn Rudiman at the first VIA gig here in town. He recommended Dan Sicko's book to me a month ago and here I am. Most my age hear Techno and instantly think dubstep... so you can understand how relieved I am to find a community that knows what techno really is. Looking forward to the conversations to come Lecho
Re: (313) 313 role call
Hello Thomas, Welcome to the 313 list. Did you move to Detroit or do you mean you've been converted to Detroit techno via Shawn Rudiman? If you in Pittsburgh, you might want to check out your local heroes, The Pittsburg Track Authority. I don't think they have a website, but here is a link where you can listen to their stuff. Not quite Detroit, but definitely Detroit techno influenced. http://www.discogs.com/Pittsburgh-Track-Authority-Untitled-Monongahela-Rainforest/master/404068 One member of the group has a blog too. If he really can't, someone just has to install these two programs for him. Either way, it won't take more than 10-15 minutes to install these two. I've linked directly to the installers for both programs below. I gave up Norton years ago in favor of these two. They also don't bog my system down nearly as much as Norton did. 1) Download and install AVG and Malwarebytes 2) Uninstall whatever existing antivirus software he has on his machine now. 3) Run Malwarebytes and AVG scans Hope this helps him, -ant- -Original Message- From: jwan allen [mailto:jwan.al...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2011 1:07 PM To: kent williams Cc: Thor Teague; Odeluga, Ken; Martin Dust; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) 313 hopefully a kind soul can do this over the memorial day weekend! Hey all Been a long time just reading 313 emails but haven't sent any out. I wish I could say I was going around to every record store in town this weekend but I'm not. Actually, saving money for an upcoming trip to San Francisco. An afternoon at Amoeba will be my delayed record store day. I tend to stay away from record stores on their official day - just too many people in stores that never shop in record stores. Kind of a pain in the butt imo. RE: (313) 313'ers in Tokyo? Techno recommendations?
I live in Nagoya, but been to Tokyo enough to know the place half decent. Clubs; Eleven is run by the same people as Yellow and in the same space - sadly been to neither as Yellow closed before I got here. Good clubs are Unit, Air not been to Module, Warehouse 702 but heard they're good. Then there is Womb, a huge club, sometimes great sometimes not so great, depends entirely on the night really and who is DJing. Record stores; definitely check out Shibuya, really good 'Banana Records' there, not too expensive as they deal in new used. synth shops; not sure whether this is relevant at all, but everytime I'm in Tokyo I make sure to call into www.echigoyamusic.com, this and a place called FiveG are crazy. Lined wall to wall with synths, fx etc... friendly staff, free to test the stuff out. Some (most) of the stuff is pricey but you can find some bargains now and again. Mainly did this for my own use but I hope it's useful to everyone on the list. (313) 313 on Rephlex, now more downloady
Just like Rephlex to be under the radar doing their own thing, but I stumbled upon the fact that they've digitized the entire catalog and sell mp3s/wav direct. Which has direct 313 implications: http://www.rephlex.com/artists/view/Urban%20Tribe http://www.rephlex.com/artists/view/Dopplereffekt They don't have the Drexciya Molecular Enhancement record, and as far as I can tell, that has never been released digitally -- either on CD or download. And Submerge doesn't currently show that in its vinyl stock.

(313) 313 in da 323 - Sandwell District Tour 2009
Good (313) event this weekend in LA. Besides Regis, Silent Servant aka DJ Jasper aka Juan Mendez is a huge Detroit-head, and Derek Michael is a former Detroit native. --- Saturday April 11th Interface 26 :: 26 by Droid Behavior TECHNO:HOUSE:MINIMAL:ACID :::Sandwell District Tour::: REGIS vs FUNCTION live PA Sandwell District // UK + Berlin A truly unique operation...SANDWELL DISTRICT SANDWELL DISTRICT is the underground Techno label of the moment. With support from all quarters (Dettmann + Klock, Laurent Garnier, Jeff Mills, and Speedy J to name a few) the label collapses techno's boundaries and rebuilds the genre in its own unique image. As stalwarts of the hugely influential label Downwards, Function and Regis have pushed the dance music envelope for over a decade. Sandwell District however is a beast of its own, a label of the here and now. Pushing new boundaries with each EP, Sandwell has earned label of the month in both DJ Mag and Resident Advisor and caused waves within the industry. Function and Regis' approach to live/DJ work similarly challenges convention, with a combined digital/analogue environment allowing both artists to feed off one another during their performance. He should come down to Melbourne one weekend, the club scene is bigger and more diverse. Traditionally Melbourne is far more 313 friendly. Spacey Space, very 313 friendly Melbourne DJ, is playing a bushfire benefit at Tramp tonight down here (though keep in mind the city is thick with bushfire smoke if you're asthmatic). If he is in Syd he might do well to catch the Future Classic party with Todd Terje this weekend - vg DJ. The fires are in the state of Victoria and affecting Melbourne so I don't think they'll be offended in Syd. He's one of my best mates, he'd be chuffed by that. He actually once worked in C2's studio and totally rearranged it from what I hear. You can sample his work on myspace. He worked in a wine shop until Geoffrey Rush came in and asked him why he was working there... so he bounced. He just put out his first record on Ripperton's label and is involved in a digital label here too. Oh yeah baby. He began DJ-ing as a teenager and earned respect as well as attention of the Mad Mike Banks. He soon joined the infamous Underground Resistance and learned his chops as a producer and performer. In 1999 his release of Knights of the Jaguar broke the ice and turned archaic perceptions of techno on their head. A cross genre hit, the song broke boundaries and became an instant classic with DJ's as diverse as Francois K, Danny Tenaglia, and even Oakenfold. The record put focus back on the Motor City. Along with his soulful productions, Rolando has wowed audiences worldwide with his speedy turntabalism and eclectic sets of funky house, rugged electro, and deep Detroit techno. Rolando makes his long awaited return to LA 10 years later for this special West Coast appearance. Do not miss this moment in essential underground. DJ Bone Subject Detroit : Metroplex // Detroit Bone is a true champion of the underground. His uncompromising attitude and fierce independence have allowed him to play by his own rules and violate industry expectations. He's a DJ in the true essence of Detroit style: aggressively skillful, deep, and funky. He is also a successful producer and runs the highly acclaimed Subject Detroit label. Bone's performances remind crowds to focus on the DJ by employing every technique in his masterful arsenal: blends, scratches, backspins, and his unrivaled use of the fader. So it's more or less impossible to archive music radio online from here!Madness... -- peace, frank dj mix archive: http://www.deejaycountzero.com -- peace, frank dj mix archive: http://www.deejaycountzero.com -- peace, frank dj mix archive: http://www.deejaycountzero.com

RE: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T)
Juan made techno using synth's (ms10), not drum machines with preset sounds amd easy to programme sequencer. He actually says somewhere that when he heard Kraftwerk he realised that they had the same sounding percussion sounds that he was producing using his synths. Sure you could say that Roland created a mechanical footprint for dance music, but that but Juan actually synthesized the very sounds that would become 'techno'. Sur at the same time as other revolutionaries on planet earth, but not in the same way. -Original Message- From: Frank Glazer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 02, 2008 10:54 AM To: Kowalsky Cc: [313] Subject: Re: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T) it's not an if. it's a statement of fact. juan atkins was making techno before he heard kraftwerk. he said it, he put it in writing, it's a fact. RE: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T)
I might be mistaken, but I try not to lie and I do quite remember reading a different interview [although I'm sorry I can't remember where or when] in which Juan was more direct about how KW might have influenced some of his early productions. It was pretty unequivocal, as far as I remember, which is why I'm [a little!] puzzled that this issue has reared it's interesting head again. All might well be revealed soon I guess ... -Original Message- From: Wildtek Concept / DJ Dimitri Pike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 02, 2008 7:44 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T) But Juan Atkins said numerous times that he was listenning to the 'Electrifying Mojo' radio show right ? Way before starting recording 'Clear' or 'Alleys Of Your Mind'... Not only Juan, Derrick, Kevin, Jeff, Alan, all a generation listenned to him. Mojo played a lot of Kraftwerk music ... It's said in all documents that can be found around the web. Maybe he heard them without being aware who was doing this music and has been influenced without being really sure of what it was ? I've a lot of problems to trust that Juan Atkins was not influenced by Kraftwerk knowing from various interviews that his wish to record music came a lot from listenning to Mojo. And when you ask peoples in Detroit what kind of music Mojo was playing... First name to emerge is definitely Kraftwerk. Just my point...
