Speaking of Moodymann appearances wtf is up with this big track Doin Ya Thing which is basically a beat, some crowd noises and a recording of Kenny on the mic in Manchester? Seems pretty dodgy to me but I haven't heard any reactions from the Mahogani camp. I've even heard Norm Talley playing it so maybe it's got the tacit seal of approval? Yeah, Delano plays it too all the time. I'm not sure if KDJ knows or not but P and Destini didn't appreciate it much and said they'd talk to him about it when i had them hear it. The worst part about that track is that I don't think KDJ is credit anywhere on it and he makes the record. It's pretty mediocre without his voice. I don't mean the track, I meant the pad sound, like the individual melodic element that is a theme throughout the track. It's got a cloudy ethereal feel but very measured and slightly clinical. Stoddard Turner Broadcasting Systems -Original Message- From: Stewart Caig [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 1:32 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) Moodymann live Thought Id hit the list with my report of the Moodymann show at the Jazz Cafe last night. Basically blew me away, really enjoyed it. Started off with Piranahhead playing keyboard and singing through a couple of nice jazzy numbers before he got up and did a little guitar solo. At this point the sound system seemed to be a little quiet, plus the bar chatter was drowning him out so I moved into the center where the sound was much better. Then Moody came on as his drunk P Funked out alter ego with a fake beer belly, blonde plaited hair and a hairnet over one side of his head. All very funny. He then introduced Lisa O who came on sounding and looking much like Erikah Badu and belted out a few really soulful numbers that really got the crowd going. Next up Moody introduced Paul Randolph who sang and played guitar. First track was a really nice jazz funkesque track, then it started getting a little more housey before he settled down for a couple of slower tracks that he did with Kirk Degorgio and (I think) are going to be on the upcoming As One album. He finished off with a track on Ubiquity he did with John Arnold that simply rocked. Then it was time for the main man and the amazing freaky motherfu*ker track, its the first time Ive ever heard it and man, what a track. The bassline and percussion sent shivers down my spine and combined with Moody silohetted behind a white screen growling into the mic whilst Lisa O danced in the tightest pair of hot pants Ive ever seen in a sort of homage to the Prince Kiss video, I think it was probably the highlight of the show. Eventually he got the crowd baying 'Moody' in an attempt to entice him out on stage, to which he obliged and came out and performed a couple of more tracks with the whole band on stage. Eventually he handed the stage over to Roberta Swann who came on and belted a few Jazz numbers sounding very much like Shirley Bassey. Overall the band spanned the spectrum of funk, disco, soul and house with an almost Parliment like showmanship. Top top night. ps. are there any mixes online with the freaky motherfu*ker track that anyone knows of? Stu

Destined to become highly prized collectors items, the releases will be limited to 400 pressings only and will be channelled through only four record shops - Smallfish, Honest Jons and Rough Trade in London and Piccadilly in Manchester. MoodyMann has just kicked-off the series with 'Shattered Dreams 98 Rehearsals in New York', which has been released in the run up to his long awaited new album, 'Silence In The Secret Garden'. The next release in the 'Private Pressings' series will be 'Omega' by techno legend and UR founding father Robert Hood, which will be issued in April. Details of subsequent release have yet to be announced, but with artists such as Mathew Herbert and Charles Webster in their line-up, none of them are likely to stay in the racks for long. - I was under the impression that this release was going to be Silence in the Secret Garden so was really happy when I managed to get a copy of the 12 this week, only to find it is not! BTW I have checked websites for Piccadilly, Rough Trade and Smallfish - no listing at all (I also check their weekly new records list and none of them have ever listed or mentioned it)!?! Honest Jon's don't appear to have a website! Also checked EBAY and none are listed there? Perhaps it was only limited to 2 copies and not 400 as originally claimed! Cheers David

What I know is this.. 1) The piece mentions 4 record shops only - that can't be right. I know more shops are getting them. 2) They're a cash only thing. So shops getting them are paying up front for them. The shops that have them already are probably london shops, as obviously they can just pop to peacefrog and get them. Other shops will get their deliveries slightly later... 3) Quite a few people have the white label version. These have been around for a couple of months. So the 400 only is the finished copies. There must be at least a hundred whites floating about. 4) The shops that ARE getting them have had waiting lists for them. I know Piccadilly have had 50 people on their list since Jan/Feb. They're not even going to get enough to cover that waiting list. so, as usual, I'm no help what-so-ever. I'd mail/phone every shop you know and get your name down. _ - End of message text This e-mail is intended only for the person to whom it is addressed. Flying records in London for 15 quid. They've sold out now, though. It's one sided, Shattered Dreams, I think matrix is PFG035 or thereabouts. I got mine on Saturday. Piccadilly got back to my e-mail - they expect 10 copies in and have 50 reserved... They were told no shop was getting more than 10 copies (though Smallfish did get 15 copies)! mine were ordered by a record store, and it was confirmed by someone at Peacefrog that 3 copies were getting sent to that store as well...I believe that Peacefrog is trying to distribute these to a wide array of places, instead of them all being in Detroit, or all of them in London, etc etc...hopefully that is the case! Re: Re: (313) Moodymann Ltd edition Peacefrog ep
Hmm, feel a bit sorry for the peacefrog heads getting a bit of a hard time. There could be any number of reasons why it's a limited run record. I mean, they're obviously not doing it to make loads of money are they? so why the hard time? Maybe it's just a piece of ART? the music, the cover etc, and will just be a nice package to have. Wouldn't everybody on the list like to be involved in doing something like that? It'd be great, I know I would. anyway, they're on the list aren't they? I'm sure if they were arsed about it enough they'd pipe up to explain their reasons. But they haven't, and I think they probably think 'f**k it, we bust our balls paying for an LP from MoodyMann, lets do something we want for a change'. and why not? they've been a consistently great label, obviously providing underground artists with money and a platform for their music for many years, so perhaps they deserve their little indulgences every once in a while. thats what I say anyway. and, no. I haven't got one. YET. but I am a determined type, and I have a baseball bat ready for the riots when they land in Manc. _ - End of message text This e-mail is intended only for the person to whom it is addressed. KDJ plays the later disco mix which came out in 1979 (or 78) and is just subtitled New Version. I have it on a UK EMI 12 release. 05. william devaughn - be thankfull on wich album and on wich label has this been released? It's not terribly hard to find an original LP, either in a used store or on eBay... it was a pretty popular track, and absolutely brilliant I might add. The rest of the LP is pretty interesting as well, but the title track obviously is the standout cut... peace, matt - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] MOODYMANN in London NYE
Personally I have to say that I DO have confidence that this will come off. I'll be very disappointed if there is no live show, though, as happened in '98, when hundreds paid a hefty ticket fee and made it down to London for what turned out to be (highly enjoyable) a DJs-only session, only to find out that UR played live at 69 in Glasgow two days later for a handful of people. Ideally, I'm hoping that UR and Drexciya both play live... But I have to say that I think calling people on this list 'player haters' (ahem) just because they express doubts about everyone on the bill making it over is a little out of order. Everyone on this list will have had experience of big-name DJs not showing up at some point or other. Oh, and if anyone saw the feature on Moodymann in the new Slut, they may have noticed that Ranx is described as 'the only UK promoter to have brought Moodymann to the UK to DJ', which isn't strictly true. I saw him spin at Pure at The Arches in Glasgow in about '96 where I believe he was a last minute replacement for Terrence Parker who couldn't attend due to the then-recent death of Ken Collier. RE: [313] MOODYMANN in London NYE
As some listmembers already know I have squeezed the last out of my piggy bank to go to London to see UR live. I also arranged for a feature on the party in Bassic Groove, the leading Dutch dance mag. This London-trip is an extremely costly endeavour for me and my friends especially with the exchange rate for the £ being so high. You can imagine how disappointed we all would be if UR would not perform. I guess a lot of us, some more than others, are really waiting for a 100%-sure confirmation. The party is going down in about three weeks. Isn't it time to put an end to the doubt and the rumours? Re: [313] MOODYMANN in London NYE
Wooh... Somebody got out of bed the wrong side :) I have lost count of the number of times I have gone to see Moodymann only to hear he hasn't turned up. Well, I haven't actually... it's 2 times and 1 of them was at Space which does that a lot anyway. Nonetheless, it's a fairly reasonable doubt and it's not based on any player hating, just experience. In any case, I AM GOING TO BUY A TICKET TO THIS. I do have every faith in Ranx even if he is a grump, as the 3 chairs night was probably the best night out I have ever had in London and I know Frank Jack thinks the same too. So what else do you need to know? Well, I need to know where exactly to get tickets, is it only via the web site, or do they have them in Atlas, too? I hope to see you all there too, those of you that attain charitable status in time, of course. Jonny. If you buy from the Credit Card number they'll insist on sending the ticket special delivery, which is admittedly very fast, but you'll have to be in when it arrives to sign for it and it costs quite a bit for a mere bit of paper. One of the guys in Atlas said that the tickets were selling well. There was a poster up in the shop with all the relevent names featured. It's up to you at the end of the day. Everyone who's bought a ticket is facing the same risk - I don't think we can give you any more reassurance than we have received ourselves. I'm certainly not gonna spend the run up to this event worrying whether it will happen or not. As someone else said, I'm sure most people have been let down by no-shows before (anyone else get suckered into one of the Eclipse festivals??) - I reckon this one's worth taking a gamble on though... Frank Jack, We were talking about this at work yesterday and apparently it is on, though is maybe, despite UR and KDJ, quite a boring way to spend your New Year ;) they might do a Lost and ignore midnight. Somehow I doubt they'll play auld lang syne. Still, even I might be persuaded to go out to this one. It is promoted by someone of repute. Don't remember the details. I'll find out and let you know next time I bump into you as I leave the flat, so's to make you late for work, sorry :) Jonny. Much as I want to, I find it very hard to believe that we Londoners are going to be treated to the full UR crew, let alone Mr Dixon, at the end of the month. (playing next to the man from st ettienne?!) The only hope I have is that its the same guy promoting this gig as promoted the 3 chairs bash a couple of years back (a couple of years!!! i i i i'm old). so who knows? anyone? FJ

The Set Up plays on 45rpm, at approx. 110-115 bpm... Downtempo to some, but hardly when compared to his other work. Personally, I bought that 12 for THAT track, NOT Shades of Jae.. never understood the hoopla, I guess. (..runs to escape stone throwing...) .6 Glad to see Tribute, his best uptempo track, not happy to see The Set Up: was hoping he was moving away from that downtempo material that I did not like on his first two CD's. Re: [313] Moodymann 'Forevernevermore' tracklisting
anyone know if vinyl will be forthcoming? The press release says it will be released on double vinyl and CD. Apparently the CD contains two hidden tracks, spoken word interludes and edited versions of tracks, along with a megamix of various KDJ rarities. It's distributed by Vital and so should be pretty simple to pick up.

where can I get this stuff in Detroit??? I only have Maghony Brown and Silent Introduction
Re: [313] Moodymann: Forevernevermore
Is this album available yet? It hasn't been promoed yet, I think. But then the recent Detroit Escalator Co release took ages to come out, so it mightbe a while.
