There aren't exactly channels available... the NN license covers the whole
50mhz, and most gear supports at least 10mhz and 20mhz channels, but you aren't
licensing a specific channel and you don't have any sort of exclusive use.
The PALs in CBRS will be 10mhz, if I remember correctly.

They do have a way of doing so on the fcc ULS Page, but I imagine I’d still be
taking on a lot of risk if my leases break the rules.

IIRC, all NN licenses are valid until the SAS is up and running. If
yours will expire before that happens, it's simply extended.

Re: [AFMUG] Ubiquiti 2.4 interfering with Dish satellite

2017-09-01 Thread Jeremy
All of the old M series, 5GHz & 2.4GHz had an underclocked processor to
avoid coming to close to the 2.4GHz frequency and causing interference to
co-located 2.4GHz radios. As it turns out, the third harmonic of the 2GHz
frequency that they were underclocked to would interfere with Verizon's
700MHz LTE gear. So we have to run special (not underclocked) firmware on
sites where we co-locate with Verizon. None of the new radios made in the
last few years have this issue, as they have a faster processor. They
really didn't need to underclock them anyway. We have 2.4GHz alongside of
radios that had that special firmware and they were not affected at all.

Ethernet. Power it up, leave ethernet link down.

Switching power supply. Try battery power only, leave ethernet link down.

CPU/SoC. Pretty much the end of the road. I remember a thread from maybe
a couple years ago where an UBNT radio was interfering with VzW's
uplink. I think UBNT did a special firmware that changed the CPU freq. I
don't remember which radio that was.

I want to say the IF side of the Dish LNB can be between 500-2200MHz.
The cables tied together is obviously not good.

You're probably better off just moving your radio and cable to just be
done with it.

Reviving a dead one, cause i can.

So serverplus, no matter how many times you ask them to stop,

still asks customers for the mac off their router, even though

95 percent of the routers on the market list the freaking

wireless mac. They cant seem to follow simple poe instructions,

constantly escalating (and billing) when they hook poes up backward.

If you have another option, look into it. Because right now, ill

get a follow up, solely because of this post, as i did from the

I dont mind our own mopes being mopes. I dont even ming paid

mopes being mopes. What i dont like is mopes, billing us for

mopery, and escalating response to being mopes when called out

in public only. Promising to deescalate the mopery, and

continuing to be mopes and billing for mopery.

At this point, direct dialing saudi arabia is a better option.

At least when amrut answers the phone, our customers

expectations drop to the level of outsource. And amrut will

        actually be consistent.

[AFMUG] Ubiquiti 2.4 interfering with Dish satellite

2017-09-01 Thread Jay Weekley
Got a call from a guy in the field that says Dish moved their equipment
behind our 2.4 Airgrid and whenever our radio is powered up the customer
loses their high definition channels. Our cable and theirs are tie
wrapped together so I suggested that they power the radio with their
survey rig to see if some kind of interference was involved. Any idea
on what is causing this problem? Other suggestions besides moving our
radio?

Re: [AFMUG] Serverplus/powercode users, OT

2017-09-01 Thread Josh Reynolds
They have to pull up the docs for your network, log into aircontrol or your
billing system or both, maybe login to the radio, check a few things,
document everything they are doing, etc. Then go through the flow chart.

Heck ours even did speed tests from the radio/AP, would check things out by
logging into the customer router, etc.

At the end of the day, it easily cut out 85% of "tier 2/3" calls. Techs
got to sleep at night, which made them safer, happier, and more productive.
Etc. Pay was also saved, because any time they are answering the phones as
an hourly employee after business hours is .

It took sws about 2 months to get them squared away. Our experience with
them is/was great.

Listen, at the end of the day, they're just people. People who are working
a fairly low rate job. If you're personal with them and get to know the
techs, form a relationship, they'll take care of you.

Sometimes people have bad days. Hopefully they have more good than bad. And
nobody, nobody, will ever do it the "perfect" way every time - the
motivation to do so just isn't there.

They sound like they are busy doing other things on the computer while they

simple support call out 10-15 minutes (even though it's a flat pay rate).

Re: [AFMUG] Serverplus/powercode users, OT

2017-09-01 Thread Matt Hoppes
Exactly... I just signed up with SP and my decision tree is going to be
extremely simple and straight forward... so easy even a cave man can do it.

Is your router on? Are you connected to your router? Can you ping
your router? Can you ping our modem? Can I ping our modem? Do you get
proper speeds when plugged into our modem?

ESCALATE. What else is there to troubleshoot locally? Unless your
network is @#$@#.

This entire process should take sub 5 minutes to complete.

END RESULT:
Your computer is borked.
Your router is borked.
Our connection to you is borked -- dispatch.

Because right now, ill
get a follow up, solely because of this post, as i did from the
original post im replying to.

GTC is no better. The experience I've had with GTC are the techs do
not sound engaged at all. They sound like they are miles away from the
phone. They sound like they are busy doing other things on the computer
while they should be talking to you. They are slow to address the
customer dragging a simple support call out 10-15 minutes (even though
it's a flat pay rate).

If I put a diesel generator into a Chevy Volt, I can use red diesel.
Well, I assume. Why can't I put red diesel into... sorry, most hybrids can
engage the combustion motor for movement a factory version of a Volt

I know one is legal and one is not, but they're basically the same
thing, just one comes with the generator and the other doesn't.

 Hey all,
I am getting away from using APC at a couple of our sites and right now
 I have installed a Tripp-Lite APS750 connected to 4 Deep cycle marine
batteries for a total of 404 aH system. I'd like to be able to monitor the
discharge rate of the batteries when power is out remotely. What have you
guys been doing to that effect?

I'm thinking a Pi and a shunt and some quick scripting classes on
Python to put it all together...

Re: [AFMUG] Fwd: Re: BGP Optimizers (Was: Validating possible BGP MITM attack)

2017-09-01 Thread Mike Hammett
There are appliances that receive your traffic information through various ways
(traffic flows, port mirroring, etc.) and see who you're communicating with
remotely. They then do tests to that destination out each of your upstream
interfaces. They determine which upstream has the best performance to that
destination and then adjust your BGP settings (advertised and received) such as
prefix length, communities, local pref, MED, etc. to move that traffic to that
upstream.

They do this to work around congestion, long AS paths that may be better than
short AS paths for whatever reason, etc.

I would like to use a BGP optimizer, but I'm too poor. :-\

That said, I'm also an eyeball network, so modifications of my own
advertisements are what affects the desired traffic, not so much the outbound
routes. I know the BGP optimization industry is weighted towards content

I strongly recommend to turn off those BGP optimizers, glue the ports
shut, burn the hardware, and salt the grounds on which the BGP optimizer
sales people walked.

It is extremely irresponsible behavior to use software that generates
_fake_ BGP more-specifics for the purpose of traffic engineering. You
simply cannot expect that those more-specifics will never escape into
the global DFZ! Relying on NO_EXPORT is not sufficient: we regularly see
software bugs related to NO_EXPORT, and community-squashing
configuration mistakes happen all the time.

Consider the following: if you leak your own internal more-specifics, at
least you are the legitimate destination. (You may suffer from
suboptimal routing, but it isn't guaranteed downtime.) However if you
generate fake more-specifics for prefixes belonging to OTHER
organisations, you essentially are complicit in BGP hijacking. If those
fake more-specifics accidentally leak into the DFZ, you are bringing
down the actual owner of such prefixes, and depriving people from access
to the Internet. Example case:
https://mailman.nanog.org/pipermail/nanog/2013-January/054846.html

> reach out to those 2 AS owners and see if they could stop it?

Yes, absolutely! And if everyone of the affected parties of this
localized hijack leak

Reviving a dead one, cause i can.

So serverplus, no matter how many times you ask them to stop, still asks
customers for the mac off their router, even though 95 percent of the routers
on the market list the freaking wireless mac. They cant seem to follow simple
poe instructions, constantly escalating (and billing) when they hook poes up
backward.

If you have another option, look into it. Because right now, ill get a
follow up, solely because of this post, as i did from the original post im
replying to.

I dont mind our own mopes being mopes. I dont even ming paid mopes being
mopes. What i dont like is mopes, billing us for mopery, and escalating
response to being mopes when called out in public only. Promising to deescalate
the mopery, and continuing to be mopes and billing for mopery.

At this point, direct dialing saudi arabia is a better option. At least
when amrut answers the phone, our customers expectations drop to the level of
outsource. And amrut will actually be consistent.

If it bleeds it leads. Panic is the only thing they have to sell.

Funny you say that about the tank.

We just had to “borrow” some diesel from one of our extra tanks to our colo
genset, to get one of our guys to the next station that had diesel..

It was over 20+ miles away, and his 2500 was past E.. We had to call around to
see who had fuel for him.

It’s pretty crazy here in DFW, most of the stations here have 0.00 on their
signs denoting that they have no gas.

People lined up all down the access roads for fuel for the stations that do.

All mine stay pretty full, but I’ve always done that.

I personally think the media should be ashamed of the panic they set off, but
it’s all about what gets people pumped up, to them.

My wife works for a municipality, and their officers spent a fair amount of
time at gas stations today. They are short handed already, because

they have sent a contingent down to Houston.

I have an 8000 gallon tank of diesel at my shop. Hope I don't have to refill it
before the prices come back down.

Its best to just get 20 or 30 gallons in reserve cans in the garage, more if
you have the capacity. It shouldnt be impactful, but we are coming up on the
labor day price hike, in conjunction with this, theres going to be some gouging
attempts, but its been made federally clear that gouging wont be tolerated.

So a news report came out claiming that the gas stations would soon run out
of gas because the refineries are all shut down. So, guess what started
happening in Fort Worth, a run on gas. I went to fill up my wife's car last
night as it was running on about 1/8 tank and all the pumps were busy. I
thought that was strange at 10pm. This morning, the local 7-11 where I make a
morning stop had 4 deep at each pump. At lunch, every gas station I passed was
the same. My truck was on E so I had to wait. I went home, emptied all my gas
cans into my project truck, and went back and got in line. For the most part
people were being courteous, but when I got out of my truck, a guy in a black
BMW and a woman in red sedan were going at it over who was supposed to get the
pump next at the pump in front of mine. She was threatening to back into his
car so he called the cops. The truck in front of him pulled out so he got a
pump and she got a pump in less than 30 seconds of arguing. He told her he had
called the cops, so she then called the cops and claimed the guy accosted her,
making it a priority call so they showed up quick. He pumped his gas and left
and she waited for the cops. The look on the cops face said it all, "why the
f*ck am I dealing with this woman with everything that is going on?" Fort Worth
sent 100 offices down to Houston so they are short staffed right now, and an
argument at the gas pump is not a high priority. Anyway, just a heads up as to
what might be coming to the rest of the country soon. Most of the gas is
refined down this way, so unless things get better fast, there could be
shortages in a lot of places.

I'm sick and can't concentrate properly. Even when in damage control, I still
managed to say the wrong ratio. I had consumed 3/4 of the thread so far, not

Sorry for now taking up 1/4 of this thread

My words in the last message don't match what I was thinking, but I think you
all get the point. I'm sick, maybe I should be in bed instead of on NANOG.

Actually, I do remember that one of them would optimize inbound routes, but
only billed on outbound usage (as it was content-focused). My in is over 8x my
out, so hrm... maybe I'm on to something.

I would like to use a BGP optimizer, but I'm too poor. :-\

That said, I'm also an eyeball network, so modifications of my own
advertisements are what affects the desired traffic, not so much the outbound
routes. I know the BGP optimization industry is weighted towards content
networks.

Dear all,

disclaimer:

[ The following is targetted at the context where a BGP optimizer
generates BGP announcement that are ordinarily not seen in the
Default-Free Zone. The OP indicated they announce a /23, and were
unpleasantly surprised to see two unauthorized announcements for /24
more-specifics pop up in their alerting system. No permission was
granted to create and announce these more-specifics. The AS_PATH
for those /24 announcements was entirely fabricated. Original thread

And if everyone of the affected parties of this
localized hijack leak (or should we say 'victims') reaches out to the
wrongdoers, they contribute peer pressure to rectify the situation. Just
make sure you assign blame to the correct party. :)

No, this is not something we should just accept. The Default-Free Zone
is a shared resource. Anyone using "BGP
