[arr] Request: Video montage of awards
Has anyone come across any videos that have a montage of clips of AR receiving various awards over the years? Thanks, Gopal.

Re: [arr] Request to Telugu speaking fans...
Ok. I felt that AR was reciting it because the lyricist sort of wanted the lyrics to be included forcefully. At first few listens, I didnt enjoy that section of the song and then kind of got used to it. Another example that immediately comes to mind was Snegidhane from Alaipayuthe. The starting portion which goes 'Netru mun iravil'. Another example from the same Alaipayuthe ..Yaro Yarodi ( chalka chlaka ) comes at 1:07 where the lines are hardly audible. the lines sounded something like 'igi bole ... inthiranar panthadika..' After that the understandable portion would be 'Santhapottu Azhagiyaum'.the two lines in between were hard to understand. The problem was not the music or heavey intsruments but sort of inappopriate tamil words picked for the tune. Anyways, I always respect your opinion Fani and happy to have your views on this topic. --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, fani kalyan rythmdivine2...@... wrote: Dude..the meter is perfect..yeh hes reciting only..theres hardly any tune for the lyrics --- On Tue, 7/13/10, raj arr_naga...@... wrote: From: raj arr_naga...@... Re: [arr] Request to Telugu speaking fans...
I think ARR is oblivious about it. Or if he is aware and hoped for 'something different' with words axed like that, then honestly, I think it doesn't cut much with listeners. Yes, I too never understood 'Muvval Muvval' part in Sivaji. I understand if a composer has a penchant for the sound of the lyrics instead of the meaning or the actual lyrics. But it would be nice if that is applied to a word that is new or slang word. Like 'Masakkali'. But it would rob the beauty of language, when lyrics are axed, just to make them sound musically good. Because, how can incomplete words ever sound musical? Past, Present or Future, be it anytime - A composer can really touch people's hearts provided his music has good lyrics. it is understandable that language is a problem for ARR but like I said, the lyric writer or language coach for singers should help ARR and tell him that something is not sounding right. I would like to share a small anecdote, narrated by Gulzar. Composer R.D.Burman too was fond of sound of words rather than their meanings. Whenever he liked the sound of any word, he used to pick that word and played around and made tunes out of that. While composing the songs of Gulzar's film Aandhi, when RD came across the word Nasheman, he loved it and insisted on using it. He didnt know the meaning and remarked Yeh Nasheman kaunsa Shehar Hai yaar. Gulzar used it as Tinkon Ke Nasheman tak, is mod se jaathe hai. In short, it would be even more wonderful of sound of the words are given equal priority with diction, pronunciation and meaning. My all time favourite was Late Rajasri, who wrote lyrics for initial albums of ARR. He wrote them in such a way that we never felt that they were dubbed films. So much of lyrical value and depth in thought, that I never wanted a tamil version of Roja or Donga Donga. Re: [arr] Request to Telugu speaking fans...
Parts of what you said is correct .I am a tamalian but grew up in Hyderabad and understand Telugu really well. The language and diction issue which you pointed out is very prevalent in Tamil as well. Even in Rahman tracks and he himself knows this. The purpose of commercial mass market movies like puli etc is to push rhythm not lyrical brilliance. None of these movies are for purists So lets just have fun. Although I agree your point on maa-te-lugu tal-liki .that#39;s a little hmmm esply considering the remix done by Mikey j Meyer in the hit movie leader Which was very straight forward .

If you are talking about Vijay Prakash, then according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vijay_Prakash, his mother tongue seems to be Kannada. By writing that there was no singer whose mother tongue is Telugu, I dont mean to say that Telugu speaking singers are the only apt ones for a telugu album. I only mean that the diction of singers in this album is too apparently glaring at us, that the singers are not comfortable with the language. Shreya Ghoshal sounds better of all (pronunciation wise). I completely second Aakarsh to every point he has made including about Rajshri's lyrics. This album should have been made in Tamil also, so I can avoid listening to the telugu version. Puli has been a disappointment to me, not music wise and sound wise, but as a whole. It's been a curse that I am a telugu, and that and that alone is preventing me from enjoying this album completely. Lyrics are a bit trite, except for here and there, and the pronuciations kill it further. I can appreciate the stylized pronunciations in Power Star song, but in Amma Thalle and Maham Maham, the pronunciations rob the song completely, Naresh Iyer's and Javed Ali's. I cringe when Javed Ali says Chekumukhi and Sashimukhi...Karthik has better telugu pronunciation and would have made Amma Thalle completely satisfying. Its like making a gourmet biriyani but then using sugar instead of salt. It might still be good, have all the beautiful aromas and all, but u cannot enjoy it to the hilt. Re: [arr] Request to Telugu speaking fans...
I tend to agree. The pronunciation is really bad ( and I am cringing while saying this about AR's songs). We are used to Udit narayan and others sing in telugu and murder the pronunciation, but with AR's music I think we expect a higher standard. As someone said, in the past even tamil albums redone in telugu sound better than this original telugu album purely in terms of pronunciation. Maybe the lack of time for AR has shown up in this aspect. Unfortunately this is the weakest link and AR has very limited control over this aspect. But keeping this aside, and once one gets over the hump with the pronunciation, the music is absolutely fantastic. I somehow enjoy AR's masala movie music and this is one such after Ghajini I guess. Maham Maha maye is absolutely rocking with its cool and funky sound. Maaralante is pure orchestration and AR's passion. Amma thalle is good and namakame is very soothing. Powerstar is something I cannot come to grips yet ! Bouncer, as they say ! I would also agree to most of the comments posted in this thread and also believe that a good pronunciation adds an extra something to the song which actually 'elevates and liberates' the listeners.Would beg ARR to concentrate on pronunciation's for ALL of his songs, MOST of his do have good pronunciation's. BTW, a good 'Lyrical Pronunciation' is also a SOUND.

Anyone who understands Telugu will cringe and it obstructs the enjoyment of the song. 2. Maa Te-Lu-Gu Tha-lli-keee - I was really uncomfortable with the way it was broken. Otherwise, I tried hard to understand the lyrics. Jaaved Ali also seemed like a totally wrong choice for that song. His diction was totally un-telugu. Among all singers, I think only Chitra knows Telugu (though she is from Kerala...), out of experience. Thats quite sad, because it might be an ARR album, but ultimately, it is a Telugu film and One would like to understand what is being sung. To sum up, I wish this album came in Tamil(because I dont understand Tamil). Because It is easy to listen to a language that we cannot understand, than to listen to a language we know and still cant follow or rather cringe at the butchering of the language with accents, robbing the whole nativity that is essential. Re: [arr] Request to Telugu speaking fans...
There are many times where I feel knowing the language actually spoils the fun, especially when the lyrics are bad or when badly pronounced. So many times I prefer listening to a track in not my mother tongue. One album i didnt like simply becos of non toleratable lyrics was Sakkrakati. In that sense I am happy that Puli was in telugu instead of tamil. Sadly,Other than Vairamuthu ( though ravaan was not upto the high standards he set ), some occasional good work from Na.MuthuKumar,Thamarai rest are not impressive atleast to my ears and heart. --- In arrahmanfans@yahoogroups.com, Aakarsh aakarsh...@... wrote: Honestly, the language is barely understandable in most of the songs (except for Nammakame). [arr] Request to ARR Sir: Mausam Escape very important piece for Jai Ho Concert in Paris
Please ARR Sir, don't forget to perform Mausam Escape from SDM in Paris, this music is worth the Jai Ho Circle ticket price by itself. Guys, I don't know if you have watched to Jai Ho Sydney concert, let me tell you, that in my opinion the highlight of the show was when they played the music of Slumdog Millionaire Mausam Escape. It was brilliant, it is the kind of music that appeal to western audiences with full of improvisation. It brought such an energetic feel and boost the show to its extend. I am happy that indian people appreciate ARR Sir and that they come massively and numerously to see his concert, but in a certain way it is normal, because we know that ARR is the Best. What I want is that americans, europeans and all other foreigners living in France, Germany, US, ... come to see ARR concert and get surprised by his talent. Personnally, since I knew the concert date in Paris, I am promoting it at my level to all my surroundings (work collegues, french friends, neighboors, etc...), I have also made some promotion at my daugther school in which this year topics is about India, this was the occasion for me to play some ARR songs, to play some video clips of Jana Gana Mana (these were excellent video as it shows all indian instruments and for people who wants to know about indian music, it was the correct introduction and allow them to discover Mohan veena, veena, ghatam, sarod, santoor, table, mridangam, shenhai, bansuri flute, etc...). I was so proud this saturday to present indian music to french people and more especially JANA GAN MANA!!! For your information hereafter is the list of music and videos that I have played during this event. Music section, I played Jana Gana Mana (Flute version) Jana Gana Mana (sitar version) Jana Gana Mana (Collective version called Artists instrumental) Bombay Theme, Yeh jo desh Hai (Shenhai version), Pal pal from Swades (instrumental version), Azem O from Jodha Akbar, Mausan Escape (which had a great success), Etc... also figure in my list music from L.Subramaniam, Zakir Hussain, Naveen, Mozart meets India (various artist album) In the video section, I played: Jana Gana Mana (Flute version) Jana Gana Mana (sitar version) Jana Gana Mana (Collective version called Artists instrumental Azem O from Jodha Akbar, Ennuyire from Dil Se, Barso Re from Guru, and many more Unfortunately, the event last only 3 hours and was very short to present all the richness and beauty of India. Besides the music, with my wife, we also presented others subjects such as indian art (we brought some elephants, some jewels and other handycrafts that we bought in India last year in summer holidays), indian cuisine (children made Thali on this occasion with the help of the receipes we provided), indian sweets ans fruits (we brought some indian mangoes, goyaves (sorry I don't know the name in english, in tamil it is goyaka). I presented also to french children tamil alphabets (I brought the tamil LKG book and it was very useful as at the end I succeeded to hear french children saying Killi peasum, maadu paal kodukkum, etc... all this with perfect accent). Sorry for deriving from my initial topic, this event is still in my mind and I wanted to thank ARR Sir for feeding Indianism in NRI like me. Again I am proud of having used JANA GANA MANA in a french school to introduce indian music to french children, thanks ARR Sir!!! Finally, The beauty of Mausan Escape (of SDM), this mix between classical indian music and western one is for me the best performance I have ever seen in a concert. I hope and sincerely wish that this piece will be played in Paris on the 17th of July. I will be sitting in Jai Ho Circle in Paris concert and I hope I will be able to shake hand to ARR Sir and to tell him all my love and respect to the great indian he is in all aspects (my longtime dream). I am just loving the peculiar naughty sounds in Beera from 00:18 to 00:30. But I am not able to write it, spell it, can't refer to it. [arr] Request to VTV reviewers (and music reviewers in general)
I have a request to all music reviewers who have reviewed VTV till now.. Can you also post your reviews on sites like Amazon or Itunes or wherever VTV music is available to buy? I have read some amazing reviews of VTV here - Chord/Gayathri to name a few .and I think it only makes sense for these reviews to be present on the website of such online retailers - Not only will it help popularize ARR's music, it will also help folks out there looking for good music in General (and of course ARR's new found fan base after Jai Ho ensures interest in his music) As a person who goes by Amazon reviews for almost anything and everything, I believe that a user review (and a plethora of them) makes a huge difference when it comes to making that final buy decision - especially in this age (and in this country). [arr] Re: DONT ABUSE MUSICIANS AND MUSIC - ARR - Request to Moderators
I agree on this message from ARR. But, as far as to my knowlegdge the members of this group or any ARR fans mostly don't indulge in abusing others MD's music. We even criticize / analyze our own ARR's music. We do the same in others music too, but i strongly believe that we never abused anyone. I am being one of those hardcore ARR fan from his Roja days, i always told my friends never to compare between ARR and IR. They are totally in two different genres and set two different trends. If IR took the tamil music into each and every corner of Tamilnadu, ARR took his music to each and every corner of India first, now he is taking it to all over the world. I really don't know whether ARR read any of those abusing messages from this forum or heard from anyone. Hopefully Vijay or Gopal can explain ARR that we never encouraged the abuses in this great yahoogroup. The first time I met him was in November ’98 when he’d come to Delhi to accept a Channel V viewers’ award for most popular track of the year. Some three million viewers had voted for him, which wasn’t surprising, considering how his music was already conquering the film world, both in Tamil and Hindi. But what was unusual was the song this post-Chitrahaar, Def Leppard-adoring generation chose as their favourite song of the year, Vande Mataram. By then, a countrywide row had broken out over the compulsory singing of this ‘national song’ in schools, but Rahman’s popular, flag-waving rendering of it (Maa Tujhe Salaam) was met everywhere, especially among the young, with foot-tapping enthusiasm. Within hours, I was sitting in a hotel suite with this quiet young man with large, still eyes and hands, dressed all in black—black jacket, black trousers, black shoes—chatting not only about the genesis of his award-winning song (the brainchild of ad film buddy Bharatbala—they both wanted to create a song that would make patriotism hip). My father was very ill then, bed-ridden, and the pir sahib couldn’t do anything for him at that last stage. But even after his father died, Rahman’s family still turned to the pir for emotional support. And then one day, nearly 10 years later, the pir sahib came to Rahman’s home. He blessed a room which is very special to me because my father died in it, and which I had turned into my studio. The pir sahib said we were destined to go through some unique experiences, including much suffering, and some very hard times. His prophecy had a curious effect on Rahman: The moment he said that and blessed the room, I felt such peace. As if everything had become green, and my whole life had started afresh. Within six months, the pir was dead, but the mystical power he had unleashed on the family lived on. That’s when Rahman says the family decided to embrace Islam. I felt that, OK, this feeling that I have is God. It’s not about Hindu or Muslim or anything, but there is that one feeling, and that is God. It was not anything dramatic, he explained, like it is in films. It would be hypocritical, he felt, with the dawning of this feeling, if he didn’t change his name. And so, Dilip Kumar became Allah Rakha Rahman at the age of 21. For Rahman and his family, the conversion was more a change in their attitude to God than anything else. hi!from the past 2-3years the best album which i've heard is munna.it's good. but even i'm not satisfied with the past albums composed by arr, mainly with maniratnam's guru. i had a lot of expectations on the album, but it couldn't reach my expectations. nowadays arr is concentrating less in south.i request him to concentrate on south indian films which have lost their charm. i hope he'll return to south with a fantastic album like BOYS. and i strongly request him to compose high standard music.

Maybe u'd like to try this: http://www.navodayavision.com/arrfans/Bombay%20BGMs/Bombay_BGM.rarThey are notvery high quality as AJ's Wasim's coz the original soundtrack was notvery high qualitydespite being original DVD plus it was just a stereo. So can't remove the dialogs either.I tried to avoid dialogs as much as possible...but other background sounds are always there...lots of little noises, train passing by, chaos in mumbai, ppl crying shouting etc etc...But in a way that adds to the atmosphere and you can xperience the movie whilelistening. ;-)Regards, -Vishwesh."N.Sriram Prabhakar" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yeah I totally Understand Thulsi Ram..But I just thought if we could get it somehow, it would really be a dream come true for all of us here.. [arr] Request your suggestion
Hi all, I live in Connecticut, United States and recently I have a friend of mine (an American) who fell in love with Chaiya Chaiya when it was played in Inside man. I thought I will make a playlist of the catchy AR Rahman numbers ( both Hindi and tamil). So what do you guys think are the catchiest numbers that will be good for me to make her listen to. I am hoping for about 10-15 songs but whatever you guys think will be welcome. My intial list a) Humma Humma - Bombay ( hindi or tamil) b) Mustafa ( Kadhal desam) c) Manamadhurai ( Minsara Kanavu) d) Taal se Taal ( Taal) e) Thee kurivi ( Kangalal Kaidhu seidhai - strange choice? ) f) Baar baar haan - Lagaan g) Banno rani - 1947 earth h) chaiya chaiya (of course) - Dil se i) Shakalaka baby ( mudhalvan) j) Pachai nirame ( alai payuthey) k) Telephone mani ( Indian) I don't know I am pretty sure there are great songs, I just cant seem to remember any. Please help. Thanks Navin Explore, Experience, Enjoy A.R.Rahman - The Man, The Music, The Magic. Only at arrahmanfans.com - The definitive A.R.Rahman e-community.
