[arr] Sakkarakatti - Film Posters in Chennai
Dear All, Everywhere around Chennai city, we can see Posters of Sakkarakatti movie having ARR's smiling snap blown up in a very big size, that it almost covers the entire poster, and on the other corner, see Shantanu Bagyaraj's image from the movie. The caption is about TAXI TAXI song, and the records that it had created. The special part is that Shantanu's portion in that poster has been torn in many places by people who have been fed up with his acting, and by the movie ( I guess) , and ARR's portion remains intact. I observed this at slum areas too, where usually, the film heroes have a lot of registered fan associations. ARR's smiling face now decorates almost all places in Chennai, be it be slum areas, water tanks and everywhere Heartening, Very glad to see this... I hope and wish he comes out of his painful moments and be happy as always. God Bless. Thanks -- regards, Vithur

Actually, the Snap is nothing but the old smile of ARR , he with a Guitar which was taken during the SOk Photo Shoot. Kalaipuli Dhanu, who was involved in SOK, has been the producer for this movie, and this is clearly his marketing and advertising efforts. Hi Vithur, I appreciate your comment. But there is a saying beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Pls do not rush with your negative comments so soon about the movie, By doing this your are actually influencing people. Some might even wont want to waste money on seeing it even once. Re: [arr] Sakkarakatti - My Guiness Record ( LOL)
Two things I liked in Sakkarakatti: 1) Our boss's BGM's, especially the first heroine's intro song (May be sung by Viviane Chaix, not sure) and the final powerful remix of Marudhaani tune and Chinnamma tune. 2) The power of Taxi Taxi that made everyone to stay back even after the movie was over. They repeat the whole song once again! What I hated the most: 1) Till date, this is the worst film one can ever imagine. It's a shame to call it a movie. 2) The way the music was wasted...I hate the pathetic graphics done by Ocher studios. Since Rahmanji was forced and emotionally blackmailed to do this project, the producers got a correct result for such cheap behaviour. As much as we are happy to see AR working with Danny Boyle, it feels so sad to see AR putting his efforts in these kind of cheap movies. Was it any other MD, they would have either said No or would have given some simple tunes but it's AR's dignity and his love towards music that makes him to put every best effort irrespective of who the director is or what the movie is all about. - Madhavan.R On Sun, Oct 5, 2008 at 10:19 PM, Vithur [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear all, I saw Sakkarakatti for the second time, and achieved the Guiness Record for being the first person on earth to have seen it the second time... The movie really sucks but is there any lack from Rahman's part?? No, he did a great job in his part. He cant do anything if the story is good or not. thats not rahman's problem. The Songs and BGM are very good. WHat else u all expect from rahman.. Change the story?? It not his job. Sometimes certain story is nice to hear without picturization and some story is not good to hear before picturization. But when they come out with scene then only can judge whether really good or not.. maybe when they tell the story it sounds good and Rahman accept it and he have no choice to rejects since the team can wait for rahman for years... The habitual occurrence has been renovated for 'Sakkarakatti' as the movie starring an all new cast in the lead has bagged a red carpet entry for the first time in history. Why should we as fans break our heads about which director ARR choses? IS he not the best judge of the situation? What Knowledge do we have to make such accusations? As for Harris, he is a good singer who was nurtured by ARR. Am sure ARR n Harris share a good rapport so why don't we just sit back and enjoy ARR's music which is in tune with the times instead of being over critical about him. [arr] Sakkarakatti - A BGM treat
Dear All, Pls dont start blaming me or accusing me. This is purely my opinion, and I am sure people will differ from mine. I just returned homw after watching Sakkarakatti. It is a debut film from a debutant director, who has aimed, desired and dreamt something big, great and class, but ended up in a chaos. The film has lot of touches of the film Boys in it in the sense that the picture shows how the youth get swayed away by sensual desires etc. I must admit, that the film lacks a script. There is no proper story, and screen play is NIL. Kalaprabhu could have taken the suggestions of senior Directors, in attaching some story, script value to the movie. But anyhow, I liked the movie, and its not an unbearable one, as our Meastro has come with out wonderful BGMs once again. BGMs to be specially observed 1. The Very Title Credits. Sounds little bit similar to Tu Bin Bataye. little bit here and there 2. The English BGMs which come with Blazee 's Rap 3. There is a wonderful BGM, which comes, when Vedika ( Reema) goes with the hero in his bike to college . oops. Wonderful 4. Marudhani in piano similar to some symphony orchestra style 5. The Dream scene of the hero, when he goes to see Reema . There the usage of Taxi Taxi BGM in rock style. Oh My God. Mind Blowing 6. Elay Elay BGM, when the kids go to the book store for buying books... The final scene, when our Boss creates a magic, by superbly mixing Chinnama Chilakkama tune Marudhaani once again ends with Chinnamma Chilakkama... I am very happy, that the director had specially thanked ARR in the beginning itself. P.S. I dont think the movie is an unbearable one... Its Ok. Could have been much much much better. But, for a newcomer, he has done his best to do whatever he feels can be done best. Lets forgive him A special Treat for BGM lovers like me. expecting the DVD anytime... Ayngaran release should be soon, I guess. -- regards, Vithur ARR in my Heart; His Music in my Blood;

Re: [arr] Sakkarakatti.. one of ARR's worst..
sriram - It all depends on your expectations. I guess you expect totally out-of-the-world fresh music everytime an ARR album releases. Most of the times that is not going to happen. Things were different in the 90s. ARR's music and sound stood out among the other music that was coming out then. But since 2000, if you notice, lots of music composers are sounding more more like ARR. They have incorporated lots of Rahmantic sounds into their music. So the uniqueness of Rahman's 90s music was diluted and Rahman was forced to change his style. Just think from ARR's point of view. If he keeps giving 90s style of music, people complain he is repetitive. If he changes his style to something different, people say his style is gone and his quality has decreased. Either way there are only complaints. He cannot satisfy all every time. coming back to expectations, i guess if Sakkarakatti was composed by any other MD, you would have probably called it good music. But since it is from ARR, you are expecting much more. i wud say sakkarakatti is not that bad, but it is not fair to compare it with ARR's previous works. It is good in its own way. [arr] Sakkarakatti... (for rahman sake)
Sakkarakatti not sweet but SOUR. The worst movie i watched this year.. The money I pay is only worth for Rahman's song and Background Music. Some more they spoil the song by inserting unnecessary graphics Now i get it why Rahman sir keep on postponing this Project at earlier.. I think later he has no option to reject the movie since the production team of the movie can wait for him for years. If he rejects means the media will create another issue saying that he is very choosy and this and that. Maybe tats the reason he aggree to do this project…. The background music are nice... especially the time Reema rejected by yuvraj, Great. The movie has bit songs too. If anyone can rip please post here.. Musically very nice, Moviely terrible. I think later he has no option to reject the movie since the production team of the movie can wait for him for years.. Re: [arr] Sakkarakatti... (for rahman sake)
oh ya, director bharathiraja was saying this in sakkarakati audio release. hats off to ARRs guts to stay away from bharathiraja and i wish he never does music in his direction again. ARR gave excellent songs for tajmahal and kangalal kaidhu sei and that director jus WASTED all the songs and both movies were flop. i watched the kangalal kaidhu sei movie 2 weeks after the release and i remember only handful of people watched that movie.. also, most of em' wud never know if there was a movie like that.. and s, i absolutely agree with keeny's comments.. if u remember in sakkarakkati launch function, ARR said to the press reporters that backiyaraj is a legend and he partly accepted the movie under that concern... absouletly, it is an emotional blackmail. another guy who will join this league is SJ suryah.. man, if he screws up with his forthcoming movie puli, then i wish ARR stays lightyears away from him. [arr] Sakkarakatti...
Hi All, I watched sakkarakatti today... This must be the biggest mistake that our boss could have commited and could commit (i meant doing music for such a movie)... I was watching the movie only for the songs. The movie sucks big time. I have almost gone mad watching it... I really dont know how this movie has come to screen... If u think im over exaggerating on this, then please watch the movie and make a comment. -John Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Go to http://in.messenger.yahoo.com/invite/

[arr] Sakkarakatti doesn't melt in your mouth, like its tagline says (Cho Chweet!)
http://www.rediff.com/movies/2008/sep/26sss1.htm These days 'Youth' movies are in. Directors pride themselves on being able to capture the pulse of the urban, savvy, hip audience with stylish songs, perfect dialogues, a cast-iron plot and a quirky cast. Certainly, Kalaippuli Dhanu's Tamil film *Sakkarakatti *(Lump of Sugar), directed by his son Kalaprabhu aims to hit the nail on the head with its target audience -- but the director has failed to win the jackpot by a mile. It really doesn't look that bad when you see the opening shots: an up-market, beautifully designed house (courtesy art director Jacki) and you're introduced to the cast of characters: the hero's father (*Nizhalgal*Ravi), mother, sisters and brothers (all played by insignificant characters as they obviously make no impact) and then, finally, the hero himself, Yuvraj (Shantanoo Bhagyaraj) -- a precocious ten-year old who ogles at girls whenever he can. So far, so good. There's even a song *Elay*, which conveniently shows his transition to adulthood. He and his friends all speak swanky English, drive expensive bikes, wear designer clothes and cool haircuts. Forget the fact that none of these characters resemble the average collegian at any point. Yuvraj also, for some reason, despite having lived in Chennai all his life, has a weird American accent that gets on your nerves. Cut to his first meeting with his would-be-girlfriend, Deepali (Ishita Sharma), who wears even more skimpy clothes, tosses her styled hair often and speaks Tamil like a five-year old. Yuvraj falls for her instantly, and on his first day of college, guess whom he should meet? Yes, it is Deepali. Surprise, surprise. In no time at all, and without even the proper groundwork of getting to know one another, the two fall in love. But what's a simple love story without the done-to-death triangle? Enter the default Reema (Vedhika), looking beautiful and glamorous: Yuvraj's cousin. She too, with no rhyme or reason, falls for our hero. And when, at an appropriate moment, she expresses her love, she's given a flat denial. To give him credit, Yuvraj does seem apologetic. But good manners don't impress Reema, who's furious and frustrated. In the meantime, Yuvraj continues romancing Deepali. Which is the cue to introduce another of A R Rahman's peppy numbers and the SFX team (Ocher Studios) has gone all out in producing cowboy sets, fantasy flying, strange and wonderful lands where the hero and heroine cavort in joy or sigh in depression. Obviously, the makers decided that every Rahman number must be given its due! And then it is back to the lacklustre storyline, where Yuvraj is continuously egged on by his friends, is pursued by Reema, and chases Deepali. Circumstances show Yuvraj and Reema in a compromising situation, and Deepali promptly catches the two together. But just when you think the story's going to heat up, it flat-lines again. Shantanoo (who doesn't take after his father) plays safe in this movie: it's been tailor-made for a young hero who has little to do except romance his heroines and generally look good. Shantanoo does this well sometimes and not-so-well at others. There are no fight scenes (thankfully) so he doesn't have to prove himself there. With practice, though, he looks like he'll improve. (Why Bhagyaraj, who's a master of screenplay, lets his son choose such a pointless script though, is a mystery.). Ishita's a mess; she can't act to save her skin and when she speaks her emotional dialogue, the theatre boos loudly in protest (of course, that might also be a reaction to the terrible dialogues itself). Vedhika, whose earlier work includes *Muni* and *Kaalai* has acquitted herself well. At least her dialogue-delivery and expressions are marginally better. She's wasted though. Shantanoo's friends, except one or two, don't gel at all. As for *Nizhalgal*Ravi and the rest, they mysteriously disappear after the first reel and are never seen again. Kalaprabhu really needs to observe the world around him if he needs to come up with a plausible screenplay, dialogues and performances. Picturising A R Rahman's songs in SFX, throwing in American catch-phrases and making his characters swagger in designer wear won't make a good, peppy film. If he'd capitalised on one or two of the good points in the screenplay, the film would've actually worked. Judging by the catcalls at the silly climax, the theatre is left with an audience that obviously expected a lot from the dazzling promos and songs, but is frustrated and disappointed. Their only consolation is that it's a pretty short movie. *Sakkarakatti* doesn't melt in your mouth, like its tagline says (Cho Chweet!) -- in fact, it's a tasteless lump of nothing. -- regards, Vithur ARR in my Heart; His Music in my Blood;

It's very upsetting to see that talented young directors who are making path breaking films in Tamil don't have access to ARR and these mediocre rich kid directors/producers (U16 E18, now Sakkarakatti) etc and can get ARR to score for their films. I strongly suspect Sultan is going to join this list. Re: [arr] Sakkarakatti releasing this Friday
Sakkarakatti got cleared by the censors, with a clean 'U' certificate It is a classic confrontation this week at the box- office. Two films with debutants and having chartbusting songs- Kathalil Virunthe and Sakkarakatti are going for each others throat, as they try to woo the youth audiences. The producers of both the films are good friends on the same side of the political divide and tried desperately not to clash. But both want their films to have atleast a four week run before Diwali, so are forced to release on Sep 26. On Tuesday (Sep 23), Sakkarakatti got cleared by the censors, with a clean 'U' certificate. The producer of the film, Kalaipuli.S. Thanu says he is planning the biggest ever release for his film this Friday. http://sify.com/movies/fullstory.php?id=14765115 -- regards.. Krish.. [arr] Sakkarakatti : Sooo sweet
Sakkarakatti : Sooo sweet Movie preview Starring:Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Ishitha, Vedhika Direction: Kalaprabhu Music: A.R.Rahman Production: Dhanu Youth, energy, freshness- Sakkarakatti seems to be full of it. It has got debutants galore but they are by no means strangers to the industry. When Sakkarakatti releases this Friday, Kalaprabhu and Shanthanu will have to live up to their famous surnames; now that is an onerous responsibility considering that their surnames are Dhanu and Bhagyaraj respectively, names that are well etched in Tamil cinema. Sakkarakatti, the name sounds sweet and the movie looks the same, though we have not seen anything but a few stills. One hero, two heroines, Ishitha and Vedhika tells us that romance has got to be the central theme of the movie, a theme that youth from all parts of the state can identify with and enjoy irrespective of the cast. So, if well handled the movie does stand a good chance at the box office. Talkingof chances at the box office, we generally talk aboutthat for a movie teeming with debutants. But, in thecase of Sakkarakatti, one man's presence seemsto have made up for all that. It is rare for a debutant to get A.R.Rahman to score for his movie and that singularly has made Sakkarakatti hot with the youth and the trade. Rahman has really turned it on in the album, giving it the complete youth feel. `Taxi' is already rocking dance clubs and discos, Chinnamma Chilakamma is making a mark and the melodies are finding their way into the hearts of the youth slowly but surely. With no disregard to the young team, Rahman's music seems to be the sole talking point of the movie at this point of time. If the team has managed to pull of a good one on screen, then one never knows, coupled with the Rahman factor, they could spring one of the biggest surprises of recent times. Success is sweet, Sakkarakatti may be sweeter. http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-reviews/reviews-2/sakkarakatti-pr\ eview.html http://www.behindwoods.com/tamil-movie-reviews/reviews-2/sakkarakatti-p\ review.html%20 -- regards.. The master composer that he is, is not tired of trying new sounds and experimenting various variations with his musical score. Having achieved terrific feats in his filmi career, Rahman comes up with musical scores that challenge his previous bests. This is the stuff that genius is made of. A music composer, who can come up with melody, hip-hop or peppy numbers at his will, Rahman has brought out the youthful fragrance in him with 'Sakkarakatti' . Working with a debutant Kalaprabhu, Rahman has brought out new sounds that have the potential to mesmerize listeners. With right vocals and excellent instrumentation, 'Sakkarakatti' is as sweet as sugar candy. Songs like Taxi, Chinamma are sure to become anthems among the young at heart. The likes of Blaze, Benny, Madhusree and Chinmayee truly scintillate. The songs have been designed in such a way that hearing them once is good enough for the tunes to stick on to hearts. [arr] 'Sakkarakatti' to storm theaters soon
Debutant director Kalaprabhu is busy with the post-production works for 'Sakkarakatti', a movie which marks the debut of director-actor Bhagyaraj's son Shanthanoo on the silver screen as hero. Kalaprabhu, son of producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, says, It is a stylish film. 'Romance plays a major part of the film involving three prominent characters – Shanthanoo, Ishitha and Vedika. It would be a different film in Tamil cinema'. On his experience working with A R Rahman for the film, Kalaprbahu says, 'I narrated the story to him for over an hour. He listened to it patiently and finally agreed to do the film. Rahman is a soft natured human being, but then he becomes tough when it comes to work. He agrees for a tune only after several attempts.' 'Shanthanoo is good friend of mine. He has performed with ease and so have my lead heroines. Post-production would be completed soon and the movie would be released as soon as possible', he adds. http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/tamil/article/40235.html Naveen
