Re: Need Date fields in View Form
Gopala, Using a VIEW form you can't add the date/time (or date ) field directly. This is what you need to do.. 1)Manually, create a data/time field on the view form, after you have pulled the other field 2)Go to the database tab and under view information, where it says Name ..enter the actual name on the database(like create_date), save the form. This would work. Re: Migrator 7.02 error 2004
Well, I think you're in the minority, Fred. I know that many problems people have with Migrator have their basis in insufficient configuration of the product, but many of us have seen instances, in multiple versions of Migrator, where items were specified for migration but were not moved, where objects were said to be different when none were apparent even on close examination, of the diff report, etc. I do not believe that a product's failure to consistently accomplish its core functionality falls into the category of quirks. To me, that falls into the category of broken. I have been using it since it was in Beta, and it has never shaken the look of a utility trying to be an application. It's long past time for Remedy Engineering to transform this puppet into a real boy its customers can trust to do its job perfectly EVERY time. I don't think they need that for just an ARS upgrade, Roger. For ITSM, I would agree totally. Stephen, I think either of your scenarios would probably be ok, but would think it safer to do the upgrade first on your non-production box (i.e. option A), where you can do it multiple times if necessary before making it go live. Re: Database
You can also change the collation sequence at the procedure level. Case sensitivity doesn't seem to be maintained across linked servers between procedures and tables. We had it enabled at the table level and it maintained case sensitivity when the procedure was on the same server-it didn't maintain case sensitivity when the stored procedure/function was on a different server from the table. We implemented case-sensitivity within the stored procedure/function to work around that problem. The bottom line is you can make SQL Server case-sensitive at several levels. By default, our server is case-insensitive and we enable it as needed where needed. CRAIG J. Absolutely there would be a few gotchas, Pat. For instance, with ITSM 7, you have to have the app. licenses in place before you install the apps. Re: Fwd: Question: SQL
I think you may need one more set of brackets. It appears that the query always returns 1 because Request_ID = '$Request ID$' is always true and at least one of the OR conditions is true somewhere in the IPVPN_IPACT_Overview table. Put another set of brackets around everything following the AND (as shown below) which will result in both that particular request and at least one of the OR conditions needing to be true to return a value. SELECT COUNT (Request_ID) FROM dbo.IPVPN_IPACT_Overview WHERE (Request_ID = '$Request ID$') AND ( ((PATINDEX('%SOW%', UPPER(Scope_of_Work)) 0) OR (PATINDEX('%IPDP%', UPPER(Scope_of_Work)) 0) OR (PATINDEX('%MACD%', UPPER(Scope_of_Work)) 0)) ) Cheers, Jim. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

Re: Estimation for Remedy development
I did one several years ago for the Air Force, but I don't have a copy of the definition files. Mark, do you guys still use that Function-Point Analysis tool we built over there at AFWA? Essentially what we did was treat Remedy as a fourth-generation software development language, then perform function-point analysis, where we assigned a difficulty level to each requirement. Each requirement was broken down into the pieces of workflow required: Active Links, Filters, Forms, etc. Since some pieces of workflow are more complex than others, they're given a modifier with a higher number, e.g. forms are far more complex than filters, thus forms might get an 8 modifier, and filters might get a 2. Then each individual filter will be assessed as to how difficult it was based on number of actions, qualifications, etc, on a scale of 1 to 10. Finally, the skill of the developer is taken into account, and the project is given a third modifier. We pulled the formulas from a couple of textbooks on software development and function-point analysis and built the whole thing in Remedy. We even managed to tie it to our salaries and project the time it would take to complete future projects. The best part is that since Remedy is so efficient, compared to a second or third-generation development language like C, we look like GODS, coding millions of lines per year. Good luck with your efforts. Mid-Tier config question
All, Have a question on mid-tier setup. We're running ARS 5.1.2 on SQL server, and (according to the system info), the mid tier is running v 6.3 patch 010. For the most part the mid tier is workable, but one area doesn't appear correctly - at the top you have the search mode and the search/advanced search buttons attempting to appear (and doing a sucky job of it), this is running on either IE6, IE7 or Firefox 2. Is there any way to force these to not display, just to tidy up the interface a little? Regards Dave ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

just upgraded to ARS 7.0, curious behavior questoin
We've just upgraded our Test server from ARS 6.3 to ARS 7.0... no real problems in the upgrade itself. However, if I open the User form in the Admin tool and tweak something (ie. move a field left then back right where it belongs) and try to save the form, it asks me to confirm that I want to delete the fields: Modify, New Request, New Search, Query, Submit These appear to be buttons that one would use in a web view, but they are not in the one and only Default Admin View of the User form. Perhaps even more curious, if I put them in the view, you never really see them... I can find them by using the Find Field, and see their properties, but you never really see them on the form. This is curious enough that perhaps it's covered in one of the Admin 7.0 training classes, but I've never needed retraining before when doing ARS upgrades. Can someone point me in the right direction on this? I do need to tweak the User form, but am uncomfortable about deleting fields I don't understand. -ivan- -- Ivan Runions Information Technologies University of Calgary Calgary Alberta Canada (403) 220-4437 ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

ARServer 7.0.01 Memory Leaks
Does anyone have ARS 7.0.01 in a production environment on Solaris 9 under a semi-heavy load (~200 concurrent users peak)? We are seeing some major issues with memory consumption. Hopefully there will be a patch for 5.1.2 as well - there is a Planned Resolution Date of 1/15/2007 listed for that version. There is no way that my current production 5.1.2 hardware will run either 6.3 or 7.x adequately so upgrading is not an option, and at the rate our ITSM 7 build has been going we probably won't be in production on 7 by March. Re: just upgraded to ARS 7.0, curious behavior questoin
The upgrade to 7.0 removes the web views on system forms. I confirmed that I still have a web fixed view of the User form on my 6.3 install but in my 7.0 that was upgraded from 6.3 the view no longer exists. I too have the orphaned buttons. My $.20 is to let them be deleted. If I remember correctly there is no workflow related to them, they are just Form Action Fields that are now useless on a 7.x Mid-Tier (anybody seen anything I may have missed in my logic?). Here is a snippet from Release-Notes-700-ESD.pdf on page 22. Changes to web views for system forms Web views for system forms have been removed because standard forms can now be displayed through the mid tier. -ivan- -- Ivan Runions Information Technologies University of Calgary Calgary Alberta Canada (403) 220-4437 ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org ARSlist:Where the Answers Are

AR System 5.1.2 is unsupported and there are no plans to patch AR System 5.1.2 for DST issues. If you look at the chart, the resolution is: Install AR system 6.03 with Patch 20, or 7.0.01. Follow instructions for those AR releases. The reason it says 1/15/2007 for the resolution date is because that is when the Patch 20 for AR System 6.03 will be available. Re: ARServer 7.0.01 Memory Leaks
I believe that the memory leak still exists in 7.0.x version of the server when connecting from any clients (API) version 6.x or lower/earlier. I did get a confirmation from BMC Support that the memory leak is in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). However, I have heard from other sources that this might exist on other platforms as well. Not sure if this is going to be addressed soon. I am hoping that there will be a patch, but I won't hold my breath. Re: what do I need to use a Palm?
You should be able to view a Remedy form that is made available via a Mid-tier server and appropriate Web Server software. Keep in mind that you'll probably be well-served to format a particular view of the form(s) to fit the screen format and memory limitations of the Palm. Application providers like Aeroprise take care of a lot of those things for you, or give you easy to use configuration tools to do so. Re: COM Automation
I would actually advocate a different approach... Now that the Active Links have just about 100% functionality with that a user can do. I would suggest that you build a test harness in the form of Active Link guides. You could create a special ARS group that would grant your test users access to these guides so that all users are not weighted down by the objects. Then from the outside of the User tool you would Call the guide and then check the expected results after the action is done. (So have your guides submit one or more records to a status form when they are done and you should be able to make this fairly standardized.) Remedy/BMC just did not expose enough of the right handles to remotely control the User Tool via OLE/COM. ( I in fact think you would have better luck trying to automate the Mid-Tier than the User Tool. But that would likely take different tools.) -- Carey Matthew Black Remedy Skilled Professional (RSP) ARS = Action Request System(Remedy) Love, then teach Solution = People + Process + Tools Fast, Accurate, Cheap Pick two. Re: Daylight savings time again
Since those are not viable options here, we will be forced to remain in production with a product with a known time error. Hopefully the impact of the DST change will be soaked up by the OS and barely visible to the ITSM 5.5 application - it doesn't make very sophisticated use of time as I recall. The BMC web page provides only thin speculation on what the effects might be. I certainly don't have time to test it, or re-purpose hardware assets to upgrade it to an ARS level we haven't tested yet unless I abandon our current effort to implement ITSM 7. RANT From what I have seen and experienced with the 7.0/7.0.01 ARS and ITSM installers and code for the last three months, there is no way this thing will be production-ready before March. We never seem to quite get to the point of configuring the applications (which will be a HUGE endeavor with IM, PM, CM, and SLM using multi-tenancy and back-end customer data imports) to where we can seriously test all of the functionality before we uncover yet another fundamental infrastructure problem that takes several more weeks to resolve (Crystal Reports Server integration since the very beginning and still broken; several weeks ago it was the CMDB 2.0.1 installer until I gave up and rebuilt the entire server, then a slew of issues with RKM, and now it's the AREA LDAP integration which is _very_ fundamental). In fact, the lack of working AREA integration to LDAP means that I could not migrate the existing 5.5 application to a 7.0.01 server anyway; it doesn't work, or at least not right now! Some of this may turn out to be on us, or because of our environment or the x64 AR servers, but so far that has seldom been the case except where I strongly objected to running SQL Server authentication for one thing or another that couldn't/wouldn't do Windows authentication. A real time-killer has been that every time support tells me to revert to an earlier db backup to re-try an installation, I lose any configuration data that I have stored while waiting on some sort of resolution, so I have given up on doing that for now. My application administrator keeps experimenting with configuration on a test installation that we know we will have to rebuild from scratch, but it will have to be manually recreated on the dev system I keep rebuilding. At this point I wish that the application code and the application configuration data were stored in separate databases so we that could save or migrate the configuration independent of the code. Eventually we will beat this crap into submission, but at this rate it will not be before March, and probably not with version 7.0.01. /RANT I certainly do not want to implement ITSM 7 half-baked and full of known problems or limitations - that would just give ammunition to those parties here that already want to switch call-tracking vendors. On the other hand, if there is a serious problem with the 5.5 application on ARS 5.1.2 once March rolls around, we may have to do just that and take the hits. What are the rest of you in similar situations thinking??? If you look at the chart, the resolution is: Install AR system 6.03 with Patch 20, or 7.0.01. Follow instructions for those AR releases. The reason it says 1/15/2007 for the resolution date is because that is when the Patch 20 for AR System 6.03 will be available. Note that, as posted by me earlier, that 7.0.01 will also require patch 001 which should be out by end of this month. The chart will be updated with this information shortly. Thanks, -David J. Re: Estimation for Remedy development
Thanks Jennifer, that's exactly what I needed. Mark, Would it be possible for you to share with me a copy of the tool? Thanks On 12/6/06, Meyer, Jennifer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I did one several years ago for the Air Force, but I don't have a copy of the definition files.
