You also can not get a Top Secret clearance if you have too much debt,
have traveled to multiple countries that are hostile to the U.S.,
associated with known terrorists, etc.

But wait...don't we know someone like that? H...someone that NEEDS
to have a Top Secret clearance in order to do his job? Someone with the
title President of the United States of America?

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

We had a similar issue recently, got this back from support. Hope it helps

BMC Software has implemented several changes to the Electronic Product
Distribution (EPD).
From now, your will be entitled to download from the EPD only the product
related to your support profile.

In order to update your support profile please follow the below instructions:
www.bmc.com
Log-in into your profile with your usual User ID and password Click on
My Support Profile
Click on Manage Support ID's,
Go to the Support Contract Management Panel, enter the Support ID and password
that you want to add and click add.

The Support ID and password associated with the product:

Password associate to the support id is xxx (in lower case)

Please add on one or more support id that you need .

That was the first thing the web support guy did before he handed me
over to the other support team.
We only have 1 support id with ARS. I added our other id's, but they
deal with other products (TD, SIM, BEM).

Quoting Pierson, Shawn shawn.pier...@sug.com:

I see all three versions of everything logged in on mine. I think
what David is pointing at is that in some cases there are multiple
support ids, and that if you don't have the right one that your
support contract is tied to, you may not be able to download them.
That still doesn't explain why you can see ARS 7.1, but I've seen
situations like that before. Once BMC created a separate support id
for us to download a demo of something, and my coworker at the time
made that his primary support id on his profile. That caused some
issues, and it could be similar to what you are running into.

I'm not saying this is the case, but you may want to double check
your support ids at least to eliminate that as a factor.

 Hi David

I understand that it is supposed to show the products per support id.
Is that limited to versions as well?

I see ITSM in there, but it will only allow me to download 7.1.0
Normal hiccups for a new process, understandable. Just kind of
dumbfounded by the response I got when I reported the problem.

The spaceman comment was me being amused that a BMC support person
would tell me that ARS 7.0.01 does not exist.
Maybe it was removed from EPD and it is now being stored in Area 51 :)

 Dylan

 Quoting Easter, David david_eas...@bmc.com:

Just FYI, my understanding is that your Entitled Products list is linked
to those products that are covered under your support contract - hence
the need to manage your support IDs in EPD. You may wish to check if
the support ID you entered into the EPD site is the one you have for
 your AR System purchase.

Although it's pretty cool to be called space men - I always wanted to
 be an astronaut. ;-)

hah yeah, unfortunately that's the way my whole week has been going.

I guess 7.0.01 was developed by space men and installed on my servers :)

That's pretty much what I did though, plus I pointed out that the matrix
also lists 7.5 as the current version. So if it's not available it
 shouldn't be the current one.

So maybe I'll get a response back by Tuesday saying they received my
response and they'll look into it.

Wow I bet you wish that was some kind of Friday humor post
 too...

It may help to point that (clueless) support person at the

 And specifically:

Mysterious ancient services

2009-01-27 Thread William Rentfrow
We are de-constructing an old IVR integration that has been in use
forever on a CRM 4.5 instance.

We upgraded the AR servers and application to 7.x last year - the IVR

no one - literally - knows how it works at the actual
mechanical/technical level. We conceptually know the system does a
lookup to a remote table that is accessed through a view form in Remedy.

There are two services running on the box and we don't know what they
are or what they do. They might be custom written for this site - or
they might be something standardized.

Service Targets on ITSM 7

2009-01-27 Thread Coleman, Gavin
Hi Listers - I wonder if anyone can help me? We are in the process of moving
from ITSP 4 to ITSM 7. As part of this project we are currently doing a gap
analysis between the two system. I'm looking at the SLM module and am having
some problems. Apologies for the length of post, but I want to make sure I
explain everything properly.

In ITSP, we have a form called SLM:Service Level Agreement. In this form, you
define SLAs and you also define which fields on an Incident are mapped to that
SLA. E.g. You can specify which Company, Contact Company, Service Cats, Product
Cats, Groups this SLA applies to. What this allows us to do is to define a
Default SLA. By this I mean that if no other SLA is found for the incident
this default one will be applied. The workflow that finds the SLA has a Set
Fields If qualification like:

('SLM For Form' = $SCHEMA$ ) AND ( 'SLM Event' = General ) AND ( 'Contract
ID' = $Contract ID$ OR 'Contract ID' = $NULL$) AND ( 'Owner Support Company' =
$ Owner Support Company$ OR 'Company' = - Global -  ) AND ('Owner Support
Organization' = $Owner Support Organization$ OR 'Owner Support Organization' =
$NULL$ ) . and continues on for all the fields that are currently
defined in the SLA.

We are trying to duplicate this functionality in ITSM 7. I have defined two
Service Targets that differ only slightly from each other in their Terms and
Conditions:

1. 'Contact Company' = My Company AND 'Company' = My Company

2. 'Contact Company' = My Company AND 'Company' = My Company AND
'Categorization Tier 1' = Install AND 'Categorization Tier 2' = Server

These Service Targets are part of a Service Target Group.

This part I can get to work. I can get Service Target (2) to apply when it
should. If I now simply modify the Incident, without Changing the
Categorization Tier 1 and Tier 2, Service Target (1) gets applied. Looking at
the workflow, I can see that the Run If of the Filter for Service Target (2)
runs, but the Push Fields If qualification fails because the SLM:Measurement
entry already exists for this Service Target. Thus, the Run If of the Filter
for Service Target (1) runs and the Push Fields If succeeds and the new Service
Target is applied.

My questions are:

1. Has anybody / is anybody using Service Targets the way we want to? If
so, can you give me some hints?

2. Can anyone think of a way that we can make the system behave with a
default Service Target? Happy to customise, but would prefer config changes!

Many thanks, and apologies for the length of post!

2009-01-27 Thread David Sanders
Hi William

Those 2 services and the associated exe files were part of the CRM
application (written originally by ?Baystone?, and bought out by Remedy many
years ago). They were designed to queue up records to be processed, and
then process them at a later stage. They were never incorporated as part of
the base ARS server as far as I know. Also, I doubt that they were used in
screen pops. If it's CRM, I'd start looking at DDE actions in the workflow.

However, an already cleared individual is allowed to marry a foreign

This was around 2003 to 2004 so I am not clear on whether this policy
was in place or heavily enforced before 9/11. However, the fact I was

Please consider the enormous number of senior military personnel who have
served overseas and taken spouses from foreign countries. Surely all of those
people are not suddenly disqualified from high-ranking military service simply
because their spouses are citizens of other countries?

It has been my experience that your ability to get a clearance is largely
determined by

1. How badly the organization hiring you needs you,
2. How high up the chain of authority they are
3. How senior the decision-making official in charge of the project is
4. Not to give false hope to green-card holders and felons. You still have to
be a citizen in good standing.

My information comes from security officials that I spoke with directly
within the Pentagon and National Security Agency. Based on their
policies, someone who presently does not have security clearance cannot
be cleared if they are currently married to a foreign national.
However, an already cleared individual is allowed to marry a foreign
national, provided that individual does not spawn any red flags during
the security review.

This was around 2003 to 2004 so I am not clear on whether this policy
was in place or heavily enforced before 9/11. However, the fact I was
(and still am) married to a Greek national shut down my interview faster
than I could say my own name.

Those 2 services and the associated exe files were part of the CRM
application (written originally by ?Baystone?, and bought out by Remedy
many years ago). They were designed to queue up records to be
processed, and then process them at a later stage. They were never
incorporated as part of the base ARS server as far as I know. Also, I
doubt that they were used in screen pops. If it's CRM, I'd start
looking at DDE actions in the workflow.

You can create a user account and assign read restrict user license to

Remedy allows a read restrict user to login from a number of clients
in parallel at a time.
Since you need this from web, you can pass this readrestrict user name

A read restrict user can submit and view tickets with out any fixed or

I guess you can not have submitter mode locked if you want to use read

All he needs is submitting/viewing tickets. No updates are needed. So
I guess using fixed license is waste of money.
Also I am not sure but I guess if 10 users login at a time it will use
10 fixed licenses even though they use same user name.
ReadRestric is free and unlimited.
You can use it even in submitter mode locked , the only difference is
normal user can update his own ticket without any license in submitter
mode locked.
A read restrict user can not modify his own ticket even in submitter
mode locked.

2009-01-27 Thread David Sanders
Hi William

OK - so really scraping the old memory about this, the original CRM had a
separate 'toolbar' application that was used for lots of things, probably
including the screen-pop. Most of the DDE actions in the active links were
to do with interaction with this toolbar application, and there were
literally thousands of them.

What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to get CRM 4.5 running on
ARS7.1, or are you trying to develop similar screen-pop functionality on a
new application? If the latter, you should be able to find 3rd party
applications that are TAPI-compliant that will enable you to do screen-pops
with any Remedy application.

Re: Jr. Remedy Developer Needed

2009-01-27 Thread Kaiser, Norm E CIV USAF AFMC 96 CS/SCCE
I've worked directly for the DoD for past 17 years. From my direct
experience, what you're saying is not correct. Neither the organization
hiring you nor any boss in the food chain can determine whether you do
get a full security clearance. They *can* influence you NOT getting a
clearance (anybody can, really), but they cannot see that you do get
one.

In the Department of Defense, some unit commanders do have the authority
to grant INTERIM security clearances while the actual investigation is
ongoing; however, the actual investigation is conducted by an outside
agency, the Defense Security Service (DSS). Thus, your local boss can't
just pick up the phone, call the DSS, and say, Hey, we really need this
guy. Push him through.

What can negatively affect your chances of getting a security clearance?
All of the following:

- Being married to a foreign national, especially one from a nation
unfriendly to the US
- Contacts (friends, business partners, etc.) with foreign nationals,
especially those from nations unfriendly to the US
- Excessive indebtedness
- A history of past or present financial irresponsibility
(repossessions, foreclosures, bankruptcy, poor credit score)
- Drug use, both past and present
- Alcohol abuse, both past and present
- Any type of psychological or emotional treatment
- Any criminal history
- Any membership in any group or association with subversive motives
(Communist party, racist groups, militias, etc.)
- Anything that may subject you to blackmail

Now, just because one of these items may be true in your case doesn't
mean you're instantly disqualified. For example, if you're married to a
foreign national, that doesn't mean you're instantly disqualified;
however, your spouse and his/her family and connections WILL be
investigated. If anything sketchy is uncovered, you may not get a
clearance.

Please consider the enormous number of senior military personnel who
have served overseas and taken spouses from foreign countries. Surely
all of those people are not suddenly disqualified from high-ranking
military service simply because their spouses are citizens of other
countries?

It has been my experience that your ability to get a clearance is
largely determined by

1. How badly the organization hiring you needs you,
2. How high up the chain of authority they are
3. How senior the decision-making official in charge of the project is
4. Not to give false hope to green-card holders and felons. You still
have to be a citizen in good standing.

get a full security clearance.

For example, if you're married to a
 foreign national, that doesn't mean you're instantly disqualified;
however, your spouse and his/her family and connections WILL be
investigated. If anything sketchy is uncovered, you may not get a
 clearance.

 Sean,

Is it possible that you do not identify CIs in datasets A and B against
the golden dataset before merging them into C?
I guess this would result in the behaviour you are experiencing.
If not, can you give us description of all the steps in your process.

On the note of merging to a temporary dataset before going to the Golden
dataset, I personally follow this approach.
The reason being is that I can compare the temporary merged dataset to
 the
Golden one to see what the differences are.
If there is far too many, it suggests that discovery data is not quite
right and I just get rid of the discovery data and wait for the next run
 without touching/corrupting the Golden dataset.

Java API Question

2009-01-27 Thread Lyle Taylor
Hi All,

I'm trying to get started using the Java API and am running into something I
don't understand.

I have the following code that simply queries CMT:People for everybody that has
Unrestricted Access:

ARServerUser srv = new ARServerUser(user, password, null,
server, port);
try {
  srv.login();

  int fields[] = {1, 4};
  OutputInteger nMatches = new OutputInteger();
  ListEntry entries = srv.getListEntryObjects(CTM:People,
srv.decodeQualification('Unrestricted Access' != $NULL$), 0, 0, null, fields,
false, nMatches);

  if ( nMatches.intValue()  0 ) {
for (Entry entry : entries) {
  String id = entry.getEntryId();
  String str = entry.toString();
}
  }
} catch (ARException e) {
  e.printStackTrace();
}

The code compiles fine and runs but throws an exception when it tries to decode
the qualification string. I get the following error:

ERROR (402): Incorrect format in the definition file; (missing cond op --
'Unrestricted Access' != $NULL$)

If I understand correctly, the qualification shouldn't need a conditional
operator, a relational operator should be just fine. If I remove the
qualification and simply pass null, it works without any errors. Has anyone
seen this error before and have an idea of what I might be doing wrong or
missing?

Let me know if I need to provide more information.

Thanks,
Lyle Taylor

You can create a user account and assign read restrict user license to it.
Remedy allows a read restrict user to login from a number of clients in
parallel at a time.
Since you need this from web, you can pass this readrestrict user name and
password to the midtier servlet using the form url.
A read restrict user can submit and view tickets with out any fixed or floating
license.
I guess you can not have submitter mode locked if you want to use read restrict
user like this.

those people are not suddenly disqualified from high-ranking military

It has been my experience that your ability to get a clearance is largely
determined by

1. How badly the organization hiring you needs you,
2. How high up the chain of authority they are
3. How senior the decision-making official in charge of the project is
4. Not to give false hope to green-card holders and felons. You still have

You might have to enclose this field in double quotes. You could possibly do
this by creating a separate hidden field, Then I believe the /n's won't create

Hello,

I haven't ran into this problem myself however here is a link to a handy web
page that shows such problems are not Remedy specific and may help with your
solving of them. ..

To sum it up, apparently you should be avoiding using manual linefeeds if
possible, or at least if you want to easily convert around...

Also depending if they are getting added to the csv file correctly, then
importing in excel you may need manually import (or setup a script to do such),
that used specific options rather than the default Excel will default to
importing \n as a new field I believe.

To test do Data- Import select your file, then selectee delimited, hit next
and you should be able to select only the , option as the limiter (or other
options as desired) and hit finish.
(Instruction may vary depending on exact version of excel etc, if you are even
using excel).

You should now hopefully have your data with the /n in the same/full fields.

Hope this helps a little bit at least.

For example, if you're married to a
foreign national, that doesn't mean you're instantly disqualified;
however, your spouse and his/her family and connections WILL be
investigated. If anything sketchy is uncovered, you may not get a
clearance.

Re: Reconciliation IDs

2009-01-27 Thread Heanai
Hey Guys,

One more quick question if thats ok. My only problem now is that the
relationships do not come over to C. Where should i set the Recon Ids back
to 0 again so that i can make a fresh start?
Thanks

Exactly, if you do not do it this way, the reconciliation engine cannot
merge the records correctly as it has no way to tell that entries in
dataset A, B and C actually represent an entry in the gold dataset, which
is then meant to get updated with the discovery data.

 Jiri,

Are you saying to first run an Identification job with A and B against the
gold dataset, this will set the Recon Ids, then merge them into the C
dataset and then into Gold. Wow i never thought of doing it like that, i
will give it a try now.
 Thanks,

If there is far too many, it suggests that discovery data is not quite
right and I just get rid of the discovery data and wait for the next run
 without touching/corrupting the Golden dataset.

 this

If you are trying to merge a CI from C to golden where they have

It should still work if you have written the job properly. If you need

 Hello,

 work
s C already has a Reconciliation ID. Is there any way around this?

I can go you one better: I used the e-mail link on the EPD download page
to submit an issue because while I can download the documentation for

couldn't see the product, I just can't get the download to proceed in my

I didn't want to save this for more Friday humor this week. I got
another response to this from support and here is a short outtake from
it.

In our new EPD search tool, I got the below information associated with
your company name.

XX FASTTRACK 2009-12-30 BMC Remedy IT Service Management
Suite

Unfortunately, I don't find BMC Remedy AR System Server listed as your
company owned products, I am afraid it is the cause that you are not
able to download it. For now you can click the request trial button to
get a trial version for BMC Remedy AR System Server, or maybe contact
our Sales Representative for trial version.

For the record, we just moved back to BMC for support and bought the new
ITSM licensing schema. I guess according to support, when you buy the
ITSM suite, you get Asset, Change, Incident, Problem, etc, but you don't
get ARS? hah

I now have a headache and a dent in my desk.

Crystal Reports and Mid-Tier license issue

2009-01-27 Thread Steven Iocco

Hi folks. Does anyone know a workaround to using concurrent licensing on BOXI
R2 and the midtier? It seems that every time a report is fetched it uses a
license, so even though its the same account being used everytime any reports
are fetched back to back the 10 licenses we have run out fairly quick before
they are dropped. This causes errors such as the following:

Failed to Process the Request!!
An Error occured at the Server: All of your systems 10 concurrent access
