CMDB live data refresh
Dear all, CMDB 2.1 patch03 Surely there is a simpler way of doing this. A client uses the AIE to read CI data from some remote database. He created a dataset IMPORT.SAP which holds the data read from this data. He then run a reconciliation job (identification and merger activity) to create the production dataset BMC.ASSET. The AIE runs once a day to refresh the IMPORT.SAP with new CI records and updated ones. However the BMC.ASSET dataset does not get updated with new changes to the IMPORT.SAP. Is there anyway you can update the BMC.ASSET without having to create a Compare Job and fire workflow to do the update. I can't see how you could do this in a merge activity unless I haven't read the manual properly. Many thanks in advance. frex ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor:rmisoluti...@verizon.net ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Re: CMDB live data refresh
The merge job should be updating your production dataset. If you look at the merge job you will see the date that it last ran (Last Activity Time). All data in the import dataset that has a modified time greater than this time will be merged. I assume that the recon job is triggering after the AIE import job? If not then set the schedules so that this happens. Check also: - that the last modified date on newly updated CIs is being set (is it possible that this field is being mapped in AIE and not being changed?) - that there is no qualification on the merge job that might be excluding the CIs that should be being updated. - that the merge precedence set in the merge job is allowing the production dataset to be updated Cheers Peter Dear all, CMDB 2.1 patch03 Surely there is a simpler way of doing this. Thanks Peter for your feedback ... Late Friday I was doing some tests and manually changing some field values manually in the imported dataset, and re-running the reconciliation jobs, but I saw no changes in the live data even when the last modified date/time was being updated ... Today I re-ran the AIE exhanges and followed it by the reconciliation jobs and everything seems to work fine. Re: Help with ODBC driver with ARS client 7.1 and Win 7
If you are using the 64 bit version - you can try this to configure the ODBC driver. It worked for our 64 bit Vista and 7 installs. Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64 and right click on odbcad32.exe and run as administrator. This lets you enter the server. CMDB services in Unix environment
Dear Listers, I am in the process of implementing a new data model in CMDB 2.0. As per requirements I am trying to add new attributes in the BMC_ComputerSystems form from the Class manager. It is showing Change Pending Status and it was not becoming active. Even in the attribute definition form I found that the new attributes are showing Change Pending Status. We are using a Unix box as OS and I started the *arcmdbd and arrecond process*. But after some time I find that the arcmdbd process in stopping whereas arrecond is running fine. Even in the Objstr:Pending form I did not find any error and even in the Class manager no logs are getting captured. Please let me know where/which logs should be looked after? Also for CMDB service which are log files that should be checked and if there are any default path for the same that is captured in the Unix env. Re: 7.5 Installation Problems (of course!)
BMC looked at our logs and among many errors, said that one of the errors is because either the Group, User, ReportType, ReportCreator, has bad entries or duplicate entries on them. There were no duplicates per se, but there were records with duplicate Unique Id's in the Unique Identifier (on the Group Form). Not sure why the system would allow this, but we think it's from doing Copy to New actions on some of the Groups. Not 100% sure yet is this is one of the culprits but we are looking into this Lisa From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org] On Behalf Of Kemes, Lisa Sent: Friday, January 22, 2010 2:25 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: 7.5 Installation Problems (of course!) ** I couldn't find any RIK files under the TEMP directory (should be under the Utilities folder correct?) Re: Remedy on Windows 2008 64 bits (UNCLASSIFIED)
Classification: UNCLASSIFIED Caveats: NONE Something to consider for DoD Remedy admins: Sometimes the option of choosing which version of a piece of software is taken out of our hands by our required IA posture. One such case bit us pretty hard shortly after our system went officially live. At the time we were running 2003 x64 for both our ARS server (7.1) and Midtier. An Apache vulnerability came out which required that we update Tomcat to the latest version of 5.x or 6.x available at the time (I forget the exact version numbers, we were running Tomcat 5.x). In the course of updating I discovered that one of the Apache versions would no way no how install on x64 and the other was not supported by the Midtier. After much stomping and fussing and gnashing of teeth and some muffled swearing the Midtier was rebuilt on x86 and all was well. I think at some point in the process RKM was broken as well and had to be rebuilt. All of this was due to a requirement to maintain a certain patch level in one of the supporting applications. Moral of the story? For DoD admins, always be aware that IA policy can force you into an unsupported configuration in a heartbeat. Always be flexible with your core system structure as you may have to adjust it whether you like it or not. -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org] On Behalf Of strauss Sent: Monday, January 25, 2010 3:43 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Remedy on Windows 2008 64 bits For what it's worth, our new pre-production environment of ARS 7.5 and ITSM 7.6 is all installed on 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 servers, and it is all running as well as can be expected for 32-bit apps on 32-bit JVMs. DB: Dell R710 8 core x 24 gb RAM: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise x64 SP1 APPS: Dell R710 8 core x 24 gb RAM: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 (Sun SDK 1.6.0_16) - ARS 7.5.00.003, AtriumCore 7.6.00.001, ITSM 7.6.00, SLM 7.6.00 WEB: Dell R610 8 core x 12 gb RAM: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 (Sun SDK 1.6.0_16) - Mid-Tier 7.5.00.003 on bundled Tomcat 5.5.25 (NOT using IIS) - Flashboards 7.5.00.003 - All application Help files on IIS 7.0 - Will also host Kinetic Request 4.4.1 on its own instance of Tomcat RKM: Dell R610 8 core x 12 gb RAM: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 with SQL Server 2008 Enterprise x64 SP1 (Sun SDK 1.6.0_16) - Remedy Knowledge Management 7.5.00.001 on Tomcat 5.5.25 (tomcat installed with mid-tier, which was then removed; the tomcat 5.5.20 install bundled with RKM 7.5.00.001 refused to work on 2008 R2, and for that matter, so did the Apache distribution of Tomcat 6.0.20) - Forced Hummingbird SearchServer 6.1 into x86 directory to run as a 32-bit app under RKM - Atrium Integration Engine 7.6.00.001 We are busy trying to determine what customizations to bring forward from ITSM 7.0.03.009, and how to move the foundation data, and so far the apps themselves seem to be behaving properly in their OOTB installed configurations (with sample data loaded). Random Email Recipient
Hello listers! Received a heads-up of a possible requirement from management. They are emphasizing a quality review of help desk tickets and one idea would have workflow that would identify a random subset of help desk tickets, then send an email with a link for each ticket to a manager so that the ticket could be reviewed. At first I thought that this would be easy as I would use an idea published on this board previously to generate that ticket subset, and then have the email sent to the manager of the assignee, which is recorded in the Assignee Manager Login field of the Help Desk form. However, I was told that the email needs to go out to a random manager who is not the manager of the ticket assignee - in other words, an ID that does not match that recorded in the Assignee Manager Login field. Does someone have an idea or suggestion as to how I might randomly select another manager as an email recipient? Appreciate the help. BTW.we're using ARS 7.0.01 and ITSM 6, and MSSQL 2005. Thank you! Re: Sort Order for Web Service
Controlling sort order is not a fundamental aspect of web services; if the ability exists in other web services, it's simply because someone explicitly implemented it. With a more general programming language, or something more directly tied to, say, a database query, this would be relatively easy to do. I can understand why they may want to sort data in various ways, but if they're consuming the web service with a more general purpose program language (e.g., Java or .NET), it should also be relatively easy to simply throw the results of the web service into data structures that allows them to slice and dice it the way they want. For example a DataTable in .NET or whatever the Java equivalent is. Re: Random Email Recipient
One possibility might be to look at all the Assignee Manager login IDs on the tickets you have randomly selected and then randomly select one of the other managers from that list. So, for example, you select X number of random tickets, and among those tickets, there are Y number of managers (where Y is probably less than X, but must be greater than 1 to be valid). The idea would be, for any given ticket, find any other manager in your set of Y managers that is not the manager of the assignee for that particular ticket. Does that make sense? The idea of using the set of assignee managers for the tickets you've picked is mainly to be an easy way to ensure that you're picking a valid manager. However, there may be other ways to do it, including maintaining a list of managers that can be chosen from, or finding a way to determine that list automatically via the People form, etc. Lyle From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arsl...@arslist.org] On Behalf Of Joseph Kasell Sent: Monday, January 25, 2010 2:13 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Random Email Recipient ** Hello listers! Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the capabilities of ColdFusion, so I'm not sure I'll be of much more help. For the authentication information, though, I seem to recall that we had to do something odd in .NET to call Remedy web services. I don't recall the details, but I think we had to add the authentication information to the HTTP headers somehow or something along those lines. I don't know if that will help any, though... That sounds about right. I think adding the auth info in to the headers is where they are encountering issues. They have a few new things they are going to try out for authentication once they test out a few other changes we recently made. Once they give me the ok I'll remove the Anonymous credentials in MT and see if they can get the authentication to work. Thanks again! I can understand why they may want to sort data in various ways, but if they’re consuming the web service with a more general purpose program language (e.g., Java or .NET), it should also be relatively easy to simply throw the results of the web service into data structures that allows them to slice and dice it the way they want. Re: RKM No Suitable Driver
On 7.1 and 7.2 I have had much better luck installing RKM with the JDBC Driver for SQL Server 2000 installed, even though I was normally using it against a local install of SQL Server 2005 Standard; the KMS_config.xml file is coded for that, and is better able to complete the installation. THEN I usually edit the xml file to change the driver. OOTB: !-- Shipping default is SQLServer2000 on localhost:1433(default install) -- database driver=com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver password=!!gdfadfcdfddhglda schema_name=rkm type=sqlserver url=jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433 user=RKMAdmin/ /RKM_boot ...and then comment out the old line and add the new line with the correct syntax for the 2005 driver (.jdbc.sqlserver. get inverted to sqlserver.jdbc): !--database driver=com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver password=!!gdfadfcdfddhglda schema_name=rkm type=sqlserver url=jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://localhost:1433 user=RKMAdmin/-- database driver=com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver password=!!gdfadfcdfddhglda schema_name=rkm type=sqlserver url=jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433 user=RKMAdmin/ /RKM_boot I checked several of my RKM 7.2 servers, and all have the 2000 syntax commented out and the 2005 syntax added. Trying to do this _during_ the install doesn't work - do it afterwards. == BTW, in 7.5 they include more possibilities for the db: Out-of-the-box JDBC driver A JDBC driver is provided with the BMC Remedy Knowledge Management installation, for Sybase, Oracle®, and MS SQL databases. MySQL databases requires you to acquire the relevant JDBC driver. !-- Shipping default is SQLServer2000 on localhost:1433(default install) -- database_mysqldisabled driver=com.mysql.jdbc.Driver initial=0 max-active=75 max-idle=25 min-idle=0 password=password url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/rkm user=root/ database driver=com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver initial=0 max-active=75 max-idle=25 min-idle=0 password=!!gdfadfcdfddhglda schema_name=rkm type=sqlserver url=jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433 user=RKMAdmin/ database_sybasedisabled driver=com.sybase.jdbc2.jdbc.SybDriver initial=0 max-active=75 max-idle=25 min-idle=0 password= url=jdbc:sybase:Tds:localhost:5000/rkm user=sa/ database_oracledisabled driver=oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver initial=0 max-active=75 max-idle=25 min-idle=0 password=password url=jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:orcl user=system/ ...and the installer must have set the syntax to 2005 or later; my db on that server is SQL Server 2008. Re: RKM No Suitable Driver
Does RKM 7.5 run against a 7.1 ARS?? -Original Message- From: strauss stra...@unt.edu Sent: Jan 25, 2010 10:18 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: RKM No Suitable Driver On 7.1 and 7.2 I have had much better luck installing RKM with the JDBC Driver for SQL Server 2000 installed, even though I was normally using it against a local install of SQL Server 2005 Standard; the KMS_config.xml file is coded for that, and is better able to complete the installation. THEN I usually edit the xml file to change the driver. It was built in early November, days before WWRUG 2009 as a new install with RKM 7.5.00.001, and I have forgotten whether the installer even supports SQL Server 2000, or what choices it gave me (and none of the documentation is helpful in this regard). RKM installed with no issues. I am unable to complete the Configuration wizard. I have the JDBC on the same server as the RKM install. I have read and followed ALL of the KB articles that apply or may apply to this. I added a classpath to the environment varibales...is that correct?? Should it be in a Tomcat config somewhere?? Is the 1.2 version the correct one to use?? I am sure there are many installations of this out there. I would appreciate any help. Re: Remedy on Windows 2008 64 bits
Sounds pretty much like what we did. I don't remember having to run the installer in compatibility mode but it may be worth a try. Are you logged into the server as a local admin? Now that I think about it I was logged in as a domain admin. A local admin should be sufficient but maybe using a domain admin has given me a little extra something that has helped to avoid this issue (which seems to fairly common). Do you have DEP turned off? I wouldn't think that is the issue but maybe some part of the installer is trying to execute from a data area of memory. The only other thing I can think of would be does one of the directories involved have the Read Only flag set (assuming sufficient permissions)? 2010/1/25 Michael Kwok Fu Wong micw...@asl.com.hk Hi Jason, I think I do it similiar, that is I extract the installation files to C:/temp directory, and then install it from there. I have the C: drive with over 30G space avail, and also D: drive with 100G avail. I try to specify the install directory to both drive, but with no luck on success. Always get a error message on Having 0MB space available for installation. --- MICHAEL WONG System Support Consultant - Infrastructure Field Services Division Jason Miller jason.mil...@gma IL.COMTo Sent by: Action arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Request System cc discussion list (ARSList)Subject arsl...@arslist. We have seen where copying the installation files from a network share to the local disk resolve some issues. We have a full ARS 7.5 / ITSM 7.6 install on 64bit 2008 R2.? The install went almost too smoothly.
