Server name alias is definitely the short name - and although the
IP-Name exists with the full name it is the third item in the list,
behind the short name an the IP.

Hi,

I think this is the value that's in the Server-Name in the ar.cfg files.

If you change this to the short name e.g. myserver then do two things:

1 - Make sure the local arserver can ping that name and that the reply
IP is the actual local machine. Normally I add this to the local hosts
(windows) or /etc/hosts on *NIX

2 - in the ar.cfg file add the following line

IP-Name: myserver.domain.com

If you check the checkbox to include a URL to the entry in the email -
where does it get the AR Server name from?

For example, our URL looks like this:

http://midtier/arsys/servlet/ViewFormServlet?form=NTE%3aNotifierserver=
Myserver.Domain.Comeid=NTS0383

myserver.domain.com isn't configured in the mid-tier and consequently we
get an error.

How the myserver.domain.com part is goes into the URL is a mystery to
me. All of our servers are currently configured with a short name
(e.g., myserver instead of myserver.domain.com) and the only place the
FQDN exists is as an IP-Name entry in the ar.conf file.

Found the culprit.

The active link INT:ASICHG:ASA:MultipleAssociate_105_SubmitCHGTemplateAssoc

was not pushing the DatasetID variable to the right place, so the Lookup Join

necessary to push this value to the DatasetID field on the CHG:Template

2011-05-03 Thread arslist
There is a conference rate that shouldn’t be anywhere near that high unless
you are staying for a week.

Did you follow the link from the Conference Registration or Conference
Accomodation site?

I negotiated a rate of $195.00 plus tax (including internet access) to keep
it within US Government guidelines.

That requirement ruled out many hotels and wasn’t easy to get.

Once you stay elsewhere you have to pay to get to the conference hotel and

given we start at 7:30 a.m. and go to the wee hours at times, it is also
safer

and more comfortable.

Re: Customization Approval Process Question

2011-05-03 Thread William Rentfrow
Easy - don't ask them for what customizations they want. Don't even
suggest it.

We have pretty rigidly adapted the position of Document your business
needs For example, a case might need XYZ pieces of information
registered to meet contractual obligations..

Then we do everything we can to use base functionality to fulfill those
needs. Sometimes it is not possible and needs an integration (which we
do not consider a customization as long as base app code isn't touched).

If a business need can not be fulfilled then return the list to them and
ask them to prioritize it as nice to have, important, etc - and only
then tell them you may need to customize but first you want to
investigate changing their business processes - and see if you can
actually make the work with the app in a reasonable way. Many times you
can - often you can't.

We managed to get a wishlist of 200+ customizations and tweaks down to
about 10 doing this on our latest go-round of upgrades.

Performance rating on the Change Module and why is it a mandatory field to complete a change ticket?

2011-05-03 Thread Mike Ilmer
Hi List,

My users asking what is the performance rating field and why it is a mandatory
field to complete a change ticket?

I didn't find the clear explanation.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

Performance ratings can be used as part of the risk assessment for a Change.
I question why it is required, too, but we just put a default value of 3 in
and called it good for now.

Re: Customization Approval Process Question

2011-05-03 Thread Sanford, Claire
This is what we want them to fill out before going to the CAB.

They are fields that were added to the old HD form and the old CHG form that in
the past all they had to do was put in a request with approval from a Director
and they could have it added.

With this implementation, there are new rules. No enhancements/customizations
unless they can justify the need and get it past the CAB or a System Executive
(VP).

I think that I remember this happening a while back, our fix was to add
another server entry under AR Server Settings in the mid-tier
configuration page. There needs to be one entry that is app server name
and another that is the fqdn. I can't remember the patch that was
supposed to have fixed, I just make sure that the entries are there
regardless of version.

Adding another entry to the mid tier configuration will only add unnecessary
entry points and server names on the home page which tends to not look nice..

I would look into email related configuration files rather than the ar.cfg file
since you earlier mentioned that the Server-Name parameter is already set
correctly to the short name..

Look into some of the email related configuration files..
EmailDaemon.properties file to the best of my knowledge does not by default
contain any server name related configuration, but its worth a check as I may
be wrong.. Look for the line com.bmc.arsys.emaildaemon.servers in it..

Adding a server entry does not add entry points or server names on the home

mid-tiers at a previous company without that issue. Of course those AR and

Re: Server name in notification

2011-05-03 Thread Andrew C Goodall
You can add a load balanced VIP name / or a DNS alias for your midtier
and AR servers and make this your server-name in the ar.cfg and midtier
config.

We use a load balanced VIP name for your midtier and AR server layers

Ar.cfg

Default-Web-Path: http://mydns-midtiername.mydomain.com/arsys

Domain-Name: mydomain.com

IP-Name: 99.999.999.100

IP-Name: 99.999.999.101

IP-Name: arserver1

IP-Name: arserver1.mydomain.com

IP-Name: arserver2

IP-Name: arserver2.mydomain.com

//above ip-name are if you are using a server group

Server-Connect-Name: arserver1.mydomain.com

Server-Name: mydns-arservername.mydomain.com

Midtier config

AR servers = mydns-arservername.mydomain.com

You can then choose to make this active/active or active/passive for
load balancing or failover.

configuration page. There needs to be one entry that is app server name
and another that is the fqdn. I can't remember the patch that was
supposed to have fixed, I just make sure that the entries are there
regardless of version.

Re: Server name in notification

2011-05-03 Thread Thad Esser
Last time I looked into this issue, there was no good answer, so we ended up
taking the less elegant, but more exepdient route. We added a filter to the
AR System Email Message form, to update the URL. There are
probably situations/configurations where this wouldn't work, but we haven't
had any problems.

Fire on: Submit and Modify
Exec Order: 400
Run if: 'Plain Text Body' LIKE %server=%.domain.com%
Action 1: Set Fields:
   Plain Text Body = REPLACE($Plain Text Body$, (
server= + $SERVER$) +  , ( server= + REPLACE($SERVER$,  .
domain.com, )) + )

The Set Fields is a little more complicated than necessary so that we can
move the code between servers and not have to change it.

Hopefully that helps,
Thad

Adding another entry to the mid tier configuration will only add
unnecessary entry points and server names on the home page which tends to
 not look nice..

I would look into email related configuration files rather than the ar.cfg
file since you earlier mentioned that the Server-Name parameter is already
set correctly to the short name..

Look into some of the email related configuration files..
EmailDaemon.properties file to the best of my knowledge does not by default
contain any server name related configuration, but its worth a check as I
may be wrong.. Look for the line com.bmc.arsys.emaildaemon.servers in it..

 LJ,

The email engine itself is not an entry in the add remove programs but I
did run the uninstall for ARS and chose email and then re-installed it and
I got the same result. Maybe I could try for a third time :).

 Thanks for the response.

I am installing ARS, ITSM CMDB etc... 7.6.4. I went to install the
ASServer peice first on a windows 2008 64 bit server and a SQL 2008 DB. The
install appear to work okay expect the email engine failed the sanity check,
it said Email Engine is down. When I went to services to try and start it,
it does not exist. I went to the registry and there is an entry there but
no service. Has anyone seen this?

Open jobs in IL and a free ITIL class

2011-05-03 Thread Frankfater, David
Good afternoon all. Anyone catch the Bulls game last night? So much for a 4
game sweep. We have some Service Assurance openings in IL that are urgent. I
was hoping you could reach back in to the recesses of your minds to recall
anyone you have met over the years that you think would be good or just send me
your resume if you work with Atrium Orchestrator on a daily basis. I have
been authorized to offer a free ITIL class to anyone who comes up with a
candidate that is hired. Keep in mind we are looking for Atrium Discovery
experience and candidates that would like to work in IL.

Kind regards,

Prod Cat/Product Catalog

2011-05-03 Thread Kevin Begosh
List,
I am trying to create a Model/Version for a Product in the BMC Atrium
Product Catalog since I read that A product must have model or version
information before it appears in the Product Catalog Entries list., from
the Product Catalog and DML guide 7.6.

When I click on the create button the dialog comes up and the save button is
disbaled. I looked at the form in developer studio and the field is
disbaled there as well.

So how are you suppose to create a model/version?

Re: WWWRUG 11 - Hotel Expense

2011-05-03 Thread Doug Blair
Folks,

I have just spent a week attempting to commute around Washington DC while both
working and visiting family, and can vouch for the fact that rush hour
driving, especially for more than 5 or 10 miles can easily take five times
longer than even veterans of Chicago's insane commuter wars anticipate.

Suburban Washington area drivers pick up slugs!

That's what they call you - a slug - if you stand at certain locations on
entrance ramps or parking lots and are willing to let someone else drive you to
work. In exchange for this, the driver gets to use the high occupancy vehicle
lanes, which require at least 3 people in the car. The freeways are jammed to
the point where the term parking lot is totally inadequate. There are lines
of people standing in line at freeway park and ride lots.

The conference hotel is on the northern Virginia side of the Potomac, and it
does have free shuttle service every 30 minutes from Reagan National airport
(Washington has three major regional airports: Reagan, Dulles and Baltimore.
These are 4, 40 and 50 miles away respectively). The airport can be reached by
the DC Metro trains, which are crowded at rush hour but this does open up a few
commuting possibilities. Most of the places the trains go will be nearer to the
central part of Washington, which will be more expensive. Center of power and
all that :-)

The last time there was a RUG in DC I stayed with family in northern Virginia.
I love my kids, but this time NO WAY! We left the house at 4:30 AM to be
downtown by the time sessions started. Exhausting!

Dan's point about the cost of the hotel vs. cost of commuting from somewhere
else is well taken, but i think of this in terms of time, not money. Think
about the WWRUG experience as how much you learn per hour spent with your
colleagues. Knowledge that I've picked up atvthat rate, useful tips and tricks
and techniques, in the social context and hallways and evenings with engineers
has been far more valuable than I ever could have saved by going off campus.

Overall, DC is indeed in the expensive side. Sigh. Your tax dollars at work
:-). But you would really have to go pretty far away from the hotel before the
drive costs begin to make sense. But by then you're an hour away, twice each
day. Not worth missing that much of the fun!

Doug

20 minutes ? During rush hour that would equate to about a 45-60 minute
 drive.

You may also want to check out options a little outside the DC area in

Some of those hotels may even have a shuttle service into DC if you do not
feel comfortable renting a car and driving one here considering that you
would be used to right hand drives in London. Taxi’s in most places in
Virginia run by meter instead of higher flat rates so that may be a
relatively cheap option too – not cheaper than a car rental but relatively
 cheap..

 Peter,

While DC is in no way as expensive as say London, it still isn't cheap. You
might want to take a look at Hotels.com or priceline. You may be able to
find something a bit less pricey.

Maybe I should rent out space in my basement! I could make a fortune

The only problem is getting everyone to and from my house in Maryland...
 especially after a happy hours!

 Good luck!

For anyone knowing the area of the conference centre that the RUG is being

The conference is £1250, flight from the UK ~ $950 but the hotel is $1311!

As I’m paying myself I’d be happy with a Days Inn or other cheap and cheerful
chain. However, I don’t intend getting a car so walking distance would be
 good.

I’ve done some searching and the conference centre is a bit out of the way so
maybe that’s why the hotel can charge this much.

Atrium SSO help.

2011-05-03 Thread Randy Evans
I've got Atrium SSO 7.6.04 installed and went through the
configuration. What we were hoping to get is something that would grab
the login/password from our XP workstations so we wouldn't have to enter
them, when we went to to the 7.6.04 Mid-Tier. Not quiet working that
way, what we get is the Atrium Mid-tier looking prompt, then the
Mid-tier prompt, both need login password filled in. Has anyone got it
working so you don't have to enter your login/password for the Mid-Tier,
could you share what you did to configure it?

Thanks

Randy,
I guess I wasn't the only one making that assumption. However, what
Atrium SSO does is allow you to log in ONCE and then access ANY Remedy
product like ITSM, Analytics, etc...

So from what I understand, you would actually need to configure some
sort of SSO into Atrium SSO in order to really have SSO based on your
windows login :)
Awesome right?
