Hmmm Alex, I'm not seeing any of these buy options at all. when I go to the store, I just see the options for Itunes versions, for buying on cd, and three options for amazon downloads which all say audible on them when I go to the amazon page, heck, I don't even see the finale available to buy. As I said I wish they just sold things properly rather than using these cruddy audio services (heck Amazon take half the price of anything sold through them anyway).

Well Sebby I've done audio and kettles before, I just tend to find unless I use headphones the kettle drowns out the audio, especially when filling it. I hadn't really considdered the thing of people being present or absent relating to headphone use, but then again I can often see when someone is at least relatively close, though my lack of spacial coordination still often means I need to be careful before people get to that point (it's possible for me to see something or someone and still walk into it because I can't judge precisely where it is in space very well).  I  tend to use headphones often when on trains or travelling in cars, but I don't tend to like to use them in the same room with other people sinse generally if I wish to be alone enough to wear headphones and get absorbed in something I don't want to be in people's presance, while if I were around people (my parents included), I'd probably feel I&n
bsp; needed to interact with them in some way. This might change if I lived with someone full time and shared a room of course, sinse then headphones would be a good way of not disturbing them, though that is fairly unlikely to happen.

Visual Novel fans rejoice: Ren'Py 6.18 has speech support!

Hi all,So I was speaking to a VN creator on Twitter who uses the Ren'Py engine. She's always wanted to make her games playable somehow, but suddenly Tom, creator  of the Ren'Py VN engine, saw the conversation and told me that simply pressing V in games made with 6.18 make them talk. If not, apparently there's some launcher we can run. I just found this out. I guess we can test this out together. The link for this nightly build is:http://t.co/12QlX2zbW2Now I just need to find a game that was created with this version, I presume.Edit: It totally works. Download the nightly build and extract it somewhere where you can find it, and run the RenPy application from this folder. This goes for Mac users as well because everything RenPy needs is located within this folder, so if you copy it to your applications folder it won't run. The only game that is included is "The Question" and &q
uot;The Tutorial", but the tutorial game isn't all there yet, for some odd reason. The Question, however, works great.Since this version isn't out yet, I don't know if there are any games for us to play other than this very short game, but I hope that can be rectified soon.

Hi Slj. The distinction and the reason I'm stating "private messages" as part of the forum and E-mail not is very simple. Pms are sent from member to member with the forum software.E-mails are sent via your e-mail program and could be done just as well without the forum. If I viewed the pm system as you suggest as not within moderation I'd probably choose to leave it disabled on the basis that then "the forum" is very clearly defined and nothing to do with the forum software would be used to facilitate game piracy. As I said, that people pirate games is inevitable, but if people do that they don't do it on this forum.Unfortunately I haven't heard back from sander yet so the pm system will stay disabled for the time being.

Re: Important moderation message, please read

@Dark: the idea of deleting PMs is that you are not holding evidence of wrongdoing in PMs in the database. Obviously, if this is about imposing ethics then this will not be helpful and in fact may be harmful to your efforts. Clearly, we disagree that you should impose ethics on a PM system. I think that the benefits of the PM system are very clear, when people are using it correctly, and that its very nature requires that it be treated much as any outside communication. If, in your example, Joe and Jim both have email enabled, even if only via the forum email form, then the requirement for PM to share a crack is completely voided, and you have not changed anything by disabling PMs. The only way you can make this work is to either render PMs as email, in which case you have an obligation to destroy them as quickly as possible, or else turn off any facilitation of communication via the forum, in which case, at best, you limit your responsibility to the forum, and at worst actively t
ry to prevent other forms of communication (which, thankfully, you are unlikely to try and do ).

I'm not sure what you mean by "decide what gets sent in E-mail by the forum" unless you mean filters, and to be honest not only would that option be rather unfair to members but it also wouldn't work. Your listing of pms as "A feature of the forum" does imply the difference between that and e-mail as I said. Ultimately I'm not sure which is the correct choice here, if Sander indeed can't come up with any way of making Pm's at least vaguely more secure.

This really does sound like a very large house of straw to me. As I see it you realistically have two choices:1. Tolerate no misuse of the forum, and disable every private communication method via the forum.2. Accept that misuse will occur, shake your head sadly, and carry on with the knowledge that you can only do so much, but allow all the usual methods of private communication facilitated by the forum.JMO, but remember too that many people choose not to expose their email addresses directly, which effectively puts them at your mercy to filter their messages, so people make an active choice to trust the forum, irrespective of the option not to do so. In light of this I'm not sorry that people have that choice--no disrespect intended to you, of course, Dark.Personally, I think if you intend to go through with this insane plan, you should take option 1, which is certain.

Well all right, another thought. If there's uncertainty around a database full of incriminating evidence, perhaps we can make certain guarantees. For example, emails relayed are never stored, or PMs expire after a certain time. That might work reasonably well.I'm still of the opinion that we should stand up for what is right, and if a prosecutor ever does target this tiny little forum, I would hope a judge caught wind that PMs were private. But yeah, let's consider.

Re: Important moderation message, please read

Well the Legal angle isn't really the point here, particularly sinse most of the time when the law and copywrite come into play it's usually just big fat coorporations trying to maintain their monopoly through any means necessary and has gone way beyond the moral need John Swift mentioned of authors and other creative people wanting to protect their work. It is also unlikely that given how small audiogame developers are any would actually lauch a court case against the forum even if they were inclined to.I'm more concerned with the ethics of the thing as I said than the law. @Sebby, I don't really see how tampering with the expiration of pms would help. Jo wants a crack, Jo asks Jim, jim sends him one via pm, jo has the crack end of story. It doesn't matter if Jo deletes the pm or not, the point is Jo then has the crack and he got it via the forum. As to tolerating missuse, well that is already necessary in the larger context as
I said, however it isn't necessary on this forum as it directly goes against what this forum is for, ie, promotion of and discussion of audiogames. I agree that while we have a pm system there is always going to be a possibility of missuse, and far more possibility of missuse than in the main forum. It is however a question of whether that possibility can be reduced to something acceptable that is what I am trying to find out. if there isn't any software method to reduce this possibility it is then a question of whether a pm system with a rule that pms are not to be used for distributing pirated games is better than no pm system at all, and that is a matter which will need careful considderation if indeed that is the case.@Arqmeister, thanks for understanding the point of this, far too many people seem to be leaping to the wrong conclusion or overblowing this out of proportion to what is actually going on, sinse it is not about all piracy everywh
ere, whether people use E-mail to distribute pirated games or what, it's purely a matter of the pm system on this forum, a pm system I might add which didn't even exist for the first six years this forum was online.

Re: Important moderation message, please read

Well ggf, as I said I don't really think of e-mail as something the forum should be regulating, and that goes for the mail relay as well, indeed it would be relatively easy in the admin pannel to have all members' e-mail addresses visible anyway and say "just get on with it", I  leave the relay to protect people from possible spambots, but that is really the only reason, generally I assume what people do via e-mail is their business and not the forums. It's no different to say not including your own mail address on a message you send someone. Yes, this does potentially mean cracks could be exchanged by e-mail between two forum members, but this would be no different (to return to the  coocane example),to two people from Britain going to china and one buying Coacane off the other , hay, there is probably a "lets crack games at googlegroups.com" type mailing list out there somewhere. As I said, if you categorise pms as basica
lly the same as e-mail then I'm inclined to stop pms altogether, it is the idea (supported by this discussion), that pms are essentially part of the forum that prompts me to considder some sort of restriction. Myself I tend to think pms are a way for, well private communication between forum members in a safe environment without resorting to external programs or risking privacy of information, which is why I tend to believe they have a place on the forum and thus need some regulation.

Interesting thoughts. To be honest, Dark, ultimately what you choose to do is more or less at your discretion, but I couldn't live with even such a trifling technical inconvenience. You can, in fact, decide what gets sent in email via the forum, either at the time the email is sent via the form, or by disabling any forum involvement. I appreciate the intent here, I really do, I just think you need to be consistent.Myself, personally, I think PMs are just another nice feature of the forum, whose loss would be a great shame, a death in the family, and a testament to the might of evil deeds, but I could live without them. I don't agree with the decision, but go ahead, I'll live.

Re: Important moderation message, please read

As far as I can see, the only thing PM has going for it over email is that it's verifiably more reliable, and I've no doubt people realise that. Indeed, JMO, you should disable PMs, but only if you also disable the relay service, because that way forum members don't have to involve the forum, and there's a penalty--however small, but a penalty--to making yourself available for that kind of exchange. Course, it also completely eliminates private discussion for the privacy-conscious trying to keep their email address hidden, but now the forum isn't being used for exchanging bad stuff, which is what you're after.Email relay is store-and-forward; the forum software passes the message on to a mail server, and then presumably deletes the request (probably never even written to the disk). However, it's just as accessible as the PM function, so I'm not sure what makes it that much different from PMs except that the message is stored in a loca
l database. The threat of counteraction to pirates would be a lot more credible, IMO, if every email address were indeed revealed publicly. I've no doubt this suggestion will be well-disliked. Now, if we're honest, it might actually be doing people a favour to insist that PMs are disabled, and the email relay left running, because it would increase the general level of email reliability (a few people on this forum still have bad email addresses). So, if that's your plan, go for it, although it won't IMO change the landscape of misuse.

Re: Important moderation message, please read

As I said, "evidence of wrongdoing" isn't really the concern here, it's insuring that most people who use this forum are using it for the intended purpose. With respect to e-mail, well as I said I don't view e-mail communication as something the forum has durisdiction over sinse it is taken off the forum and uses an outside program, plus even if I did! in some mad craze disable all e-mail communication between members through the forum  (a thing which would be quite ridiculous and very harmful), well that doesn't stop people saying "Email me on my address at wherever the hell my host is dot whatever" and then just continuing anyway. I will say in the past on a couple of occasions I have had people mail me about cracks and this has not affected what happened on the forum. The very fact people have objected this strongly however to pms being disabled clearly shows it has a different status to members than just e-mail exchange,
and certainly it is quite possible to have people who communicate by pm but choose to hide their mail address. Your arguement is actually a pretty good one for disabling pms entirely, and then just letting members use e-mail instead for communication and saying "well what you do via e-mail is your business, end of story" As there are bennifits to the pm system aside from e-mail, particularly for people who want to keep their mail secret, I'd rather not go down that route if it can be avoided, however equally I don't want people seeing news and topics about games like Zero site, chatting to the developer, and then going and exchanging copies of the game via pms rather than buying them, effectively using this forum to get pirated games. After all remember we're the first place people look for audio games and we have a lot of developers who share news about their new releases here as well as discuss upcoming changes and the like, and I dou
bt we'd have as many if people were handing around free copies of the games behind the dev's backs, after all how many developers report news of their new released games on Klango?

Re: Important moderation message, please read

As I said Sebby it wasn't to change the missuse generally so much as it was to stop people using the forum for exchange of cracks. I don't particularly care where the forum server is on the mail question, sinse to me the forum relay is just a privacy fix nothing more not an alternative for e-mail the way pms are, so if I was going to disable pms entirely I'd probably still leave the relay just to protect people from spambots. Indeed, I do wonder if perhaps that would be the best all around solution to the problem sinse it would clearly deliniate what was or was not forum business and insure that the forum was being used for what it is intended for. Then again, people's very strong reaction to effectively that state of affairs (which is what is happening now albeit temporarily), indicates people do see some advantages to pms which e-mail, either publically or by relay doesn't have.

The link for this nightly build is:http://t.co/12QlX2zbW2Now I just need to find a game that was created with this version, I presume.

Noire way out!

2014-07-23 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — AG-News room : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Noire way out!

Quite appropriately enough, on this dark and sleepness night we've got several nasty, claustrophobic and generally dark and dreadful experiences (and I'm not just talking about the terrible puns). First off Ticonblu, those boys and girls from Italy have cranked out yet more games! Really I wonder how this bunch keep pumping them out at such a pace, It's probably all that good strong Italian coffee, or maybe they borrowed some motivational tactics from Father Nicholas Eymerich.Either way there newist title is She noire, which is unsurprisingly a game with a female character and a dark, police investigative theme (I wonder if their next Inquisitor title will be called He torturer?).  She Noire is an adventure game with a difference and first in apparently what is to become a series from Ticonblu. Playing as Sophia, a police officer in the town of Tranates, you must investigate a series of mysterious crimes and happenings by gathering clu
es andd finding information, clues that reveal a darker and more secret plot that affects not only Sophia's home, but the hole world. As well as wandering through over 40 different locations and running through an ongoing story, you must also literally search for hidden objects and clues by physically moving around the environment and hunting for hidden objects. On the Pc and Mac this is done by moving around with the arrow keys, while on Ios you draw your finger across the screen. The game is now available for all three platforms, more information, as well as links to buy and several youtube teasers and audio instructions can be found Here on the Ticonblu website and feel free to leave any comments in the several topics about the game in our New Releases room. She Noire isn't however the only news from Ticonblu, sinse guess what. He's big, he's bad he's Roman Catholic and he&#
039;s now got lost on your Iphone! FAther Eymerich, everyone's favourite Inquisitor now makes his second ios apparents as Inquisitor's heartbeat sees an ios release.Instead of rattling your brain around complex puzzles and interacting with various unhelpful characters, Inquisitor's Heartbeat sees Father Eymerich lost in the dark, rat infested dungeons beneith a castle, looking for his way out. This requires complex orientation as you move around by swiping north, south east or west, rescuing prisoners, and dodging around guards on the way. As well as many levels in 8 different settings from the castle dungeons to a deserted   forest, the game has an endless mode where mazes are created at random, so if you've ever been cursing at some of the nastier puzzles in the main Inquisitor adventure titles and want father Eymerich to get lost, well now is your chance! Lastly, we have a new developer, Ap index, and a trip back into a popu
lar entertainment of the 1980's, gamebooks. Protius was a monthly magazine that ran ffor 19 issues. The first of these, The tower of terror has now been resurrected from the dust of history and made it onto your Iphone. Best of all, compared to some of the other attempts to port  gamebooks to the platform, it is intention and completely accessible with voiceover! Play as a young wizard eager for fame and fortune who becomes impatient with his careful studdy of magic and combat and seaks out adventure on his own, adventure in the deadly tower of terror, a stronghold of fiendish traps and dastardly monsters ruled over by a tyrnaical warlock who of course you have come to slay. With many endings (quite a few grusome), gamecenter achievements and a set of quite unique magic potions, this is definitely a must for all gamebook fans. The ap is free, however a save and restore bookmark or some cheat death cards can be bought within the ap for a small amou
nt. Now, it's time for me to leave, assuming I can find the way out, well this door looks perfectly saa!

You recieve an email with a link that you will have to click. This will take you to a page with a download button. You will be able to download the .zip file twice, so make sure you will be able to finish it before your connection gets cut or something The size, unextracted, is 71,8 megabytes and it contains three music tracks along with the chapter.I haven't listened to it yet though, but I'm looking forward to. ^^

I've done audio dramas and kettles at the same time; no problem. My question was more along the lines of: isn't it weird and wonderful how one convinces oneself of that particular freedom of movement by sheer force of reason? Try as I might, the idea of doing this while any of my relations were about is unimaginable, because it's just not possible that they'd get out of the way, and stay out of the way, when they should. But when it's just me and Tab in my own home, no problem; we understand each other perfectly, and she'll always give advance notice of her feline presence and not impose herself.

Of course your practical chances of being court using it are slim to none no matter what you torrent, (unless you do stupid stuff like selling bootleg dvds), (I have friends who torrent like hell for their own use with no trouble at all), I was just making the point that relying on everyone to have torrents to get the levels is a bad idea, both for the legality and for the inconvenience, and they should either be available as standard downloads, or better still be available in the game itself with some sort of update program, though that would be more a luxury than a necessity.

I was interested in what others think, so I thank you for your responses.I've encountered adults with similar voices, indeed I know about voice acting. I find it very interesting to compare their normal voices to their character voices, and find this to be very expressive. If I can find any examples of these "small" voices I'll let you know, but they're kind of hard to find tbh, which makes this kind of annoying.Honestly though, I'm not too worried, much less now that I've seen your responses. I doubt I'll need councilling or anything like that over this, as I'd just consider it a phase I'm going through, albeit a sort of random one.

Re: Coming soon, Remnant 2.0.

Hi,bit torrent sync is not the same as torrents themselves. In fact, it's doubtful you will be prosecuted just for using this program. They seem to be monitoring torent websites rather than the bt sync folders, which split up files into bits and send them via pier to pier, rather than having a file that connects you, you are connected to the hole folder and if anyone sees anything wrong it can quite easily be corrected. It uses similar technology but it isn't the same as the now infamous torrent. In fact it's more likely that this will be used more for it's intended purpose than traditional torrents, so basically the AAC folder would most likely contain just AAC related material. From what I've experienced with bt sync, I haven't seen a folder go off topic so to speak.

Re: Durable Laptops with little or no junk added by their manufacturer?

HiSorry I didn't post before, but, the computer has a 32GB SSD and a 500GB HDD because if you remember hard drives have a cash, where instructions, file locations, etc are stored the larger the cash the more info the drive can store, which means it can access all those things faster because it knows more, which is especially useful with larger drives with allot of stuff, but really for any drive. The SSD part is because, even though that tiny 32GB drive is used as cash, which is way bigger than the average of 64MB, that also means it's slower to look through it all, it's like having a library, and a database that gives you allot of info on each book, description, ISBN numbers, author, other books by the same author, where exactly the file is, etc, rather than just a tag system where it's just the book, author, and where it is, so it's way harder to look through it all even though it really helps in the long run because more info is
stored and updated, and more of it for each file. That's why it's using an SSD because SSD's are so much faster, it also loads windows from the SSD since it's not one of the small 8 or 16gb drives that most hybrid hard drives use, so it's got room for that, as well as what ever programs and files you were working on when you put the computer to sleep or hybernate. This type of drive as I said is called a hybrid hard drive, and it exists because of the cost of SSD's which is still very high compared to standard spinning hard drives, so they store all the stuff you don't use as much on the big slower drive, and windows and the programs and files that you work on most on the smaller super fast drive. It's the best your gonna get other than by getting an SSD only, which isn't easy to do for under 1000 dollars, plus this way you get a much bigger hard drive than you would for even that price, and they are s
till probably even using a 7200RPM drive if it's 500GB for the bigger part of the drive, so even that is a performance boost over most laptops. If you want me to find you a new laptop for the best price it can be that's got all the things you want as well, I'd be happy to do it, I've done it for several friends and it's one of my favorite pass times as weird as it sounds. I just finished my twenty first successful electronics related deal, which also happened to be my ninth computer related deal, I love finding other stuff too but computers are my favorite and based on how everyone has been very happy with what they got so far, I'm not bad at it, and I may even think about getting into a career that has to do with that kind of thing. The computer you found looks nice but I don't know how expensive it is, and dell isn't bad, but it's not great either, so if you want me to help, than just post or PM me and tell me th
e price you can pay at most, the price you actually want to pay, above nothing of course, all the stuff you will be using it for, what specs you want if you have any requests, and what country you live in so I can pick the right shipping, as well as the city if you want me to find something local, which I don't mind doing. You could also email me at superfr...@gmail.com Skype me under the name Jondalar Sekhon the one from Canada, or follow @superfreq2 on twitter. After that you can just sit back and let me do the rest, I'll probably narrow the list down and then send you the final 2 or 3 with explainations of each ones strengths and weaknesses so that you can pick between them.

Indeed, when I was listening to We're alive I got so  taken up with the thing I didn't want to stop listening for dinner, so took my Iphone and some wired headphones with me  while I chucked frozen pizza in the oven, then when I pulled it  out.  and gnoshed it.

Hi. No, torrents aren't a good or effcient  efficient way to distribute things, particularly sinse in the Uk you could potentially get prosicuted just for using the program whether you are downloading pirated films and such or not, plus of course not everyone wants to mess around with torrent programs anyway. an archive on the actual Aac site would be the best option if possible, the way say sound rts maps or the Lone wolf missions from Gma are stored. I'm actually surprised Aaron didn't do this originally sinse one of the first things he did with Aac was offer additional music and sound packs just for the creation of extra stages.

Hi. Well as I said in the braillemon topic I'd like to see how the game is doing and maybe create a db entry for it (though it might have to be under the demo license type for a while). I  downloaded the release from the 18th may, however the dam thing won't run at all. i'm asked by spi to hit enter if I hear sapi, so I do, the pokemon menu music starts, and I'm asked to hit enter again, then I get a game maker studio window and about 10 errors. (actually I have the devil's own job closing the dam thing which is why I haven't coppied the error message). I assume that there is something with the game and it's not this buggy, sinse hay, the first version I tried back when Rachel first posted the game worked better than this one, though I have no idea what is actually wrong, unless the 18th may releease was just an update and I need a more full version first or something.

Re: A strange dilemma

HiI really don't find this that weird so don't worry too much about it, I mean, maybe in normal conversation people would be a bit confused and put off but I read it and then I was just like, ehh, what ever, partly because I know that the male human brain finds higher voices more attractive specifically because in the brain's sort of basic line of thinking when it comes to mating, it basically just assumes that, higher voice equals more female equals more easily fertilized and better at carrying till term.Diddo for females, they like a lower voice with more base, because lower voice equals more male equals better chance of fertilization, and more protection from danger while pregnant and vonerable. This is allot of the reason why many people hear their own voice on a  recording and want to go home and eat a Glock rather than hear it any longer, because not only does the shape and composition of the skull make your own voice
sound more reverberant and full, the brain also wants to think you sound more like a male or more like a female because that means you measure up to it's instinctual measuring stick better.Obviously you can override this to some degree, having ore confidence in the way your voice sounds, wanting to sound like a female when you are a male or like a male when you are a female for personal reasons, hearing your own voice so much that you get used to it, etc, but the basic rules don't change much.So your either going through a natural phase, or you have a bit too much of this measuring going on, or something else, I'm guessing it's the first one, if you worry about it, I suggest talking to a doctor, it can't hurt, allot of them got their degrees by working in the ER where a surprising amount of people, mostly guys show up with things jabbed up their you know what's, that have to be removed, and apparently it happens enough so that
allot of full time ER staff just get used to it, and that's not even counting the multiple stab wound cases, the enormous amount of druggies who are their because they are just trying to get usually pain meds, to fuel their fix, meds that could help someone else that needs them way more, etc, so really, this is nothing. It also doesn't mean your into children if that's what your driving at, that's literally such a backwards way of thinking instinctually that you would be displaying allot more problems than this, plus it's almost never something you can just grow into unless you were very abused, probably by someone who is  into children them selves, so please, don't worry about that, all you will do is make your self sick.I'm also no expert on the subject at all, but I have a few friends in the field, and I do like to read well sourced material about things on the internet, so knowing that, there's my info, and a
ll I can say is that you shouldn't worry too much about this and that if you do? then talk to a professional, for your sake.

Re: Entombed, how can I attack heads

Hi. Firstly, to attack heads, hold the 8 key on the numberpad when you hit enter to attack. 8 hits heads, 4 and 6 do left and right arm, 5 does the torso, and 1 and 3 do left and right legs. Note though that there is a greater chance of missing when targeting heads. with the rock guardian, as usual for entombed, stopping your enemy from hurting you is the key. Use any spells like sleep or chalm or hiding with sneak attack. Also, to get through the rock either use ice air or electric magic and equip your characters with hard weapons (copper just won't do it). If I remember rightly clubs and blunt weapons do more damage against the guardian than swords, though it is a while sinse I played entombed so I might be wrong. Also, remember that if you target the Guardian's hands and succeed in mangling them, it can't attack you anymore.

OK, fair enough. Well, I think virtualisation is a problem for latency no matter what, but yes, it's really very true that one should be realistic if one places demands on hardware. Technically, the only thing stopping me from using Fusion is VMWare, so hopefully they'll listen to my feature requests, but regardless, it seems to me that right now Apple's brand of lobotomisation is preferable to that of Microsoft's on my everyday MBP. I hope the situation changes, either so that legacy peripherals are supported by VMWare, which would allow me to build my testbeds on my Macs, or else Windows gets a keyboard-accessible UI, in which case I'll hop on over, but that isn't yet.

One voice I always found appealing was Talia from Babylon 5, just because of her depth and resonance. One odd fact indeed is that the characters I thought most attractive both vocally and according to what my vision could get were ironically the two main telepaths in the series, which probably says I'm a strange fellow :d.Though in case your wondering, no, I didn't find much appealing about Alfred Besta beyond the fact that he's named after an author who wrote some pretty good books .

Re: Microsoft to end support for Windows 7 in 2015

@cx2: fair enough, you're game, if you'll pardon the pun. Even if I were to go back to Windows full-time, it'd probably still be on Mac hardware. I'm not likely to give that any serious thought until Windows 9 or whatever it's called, though. I doubt they'll give me enough of what I need even then. For me, the chief reason is not games, but pro software, in particular VMWare Workstation, but I'd also get Thunderbird and Windows Server as bonuses, which following the iOSification of OS X have become sadly necessary.I agree, virtualisation is a problem, but it's a lot better than not having XP. You need XP if you want a good part of the value from most audiogames right now IMO. I'm looking into ESXi, to make it go faster.

Re: Pining for Snow Leopard

Perhaps but note the prices they charged for Lion and Mountain Lion, they obviously weren't concerned overly much about profits from the OS. I think it was mostly a transition from having to provide upgrade media to being able to offer it by download, something which readily available broadband connections made possible. Of course like you said they really need to given the prices of their hardware.

I'll phone tomorrow and make enquiries. @Cx2,  Kirk is  obviously bigger than I thought, but I've never been good at weight measures, generally though the  nudge isn't move out of the way so much as it is just "shift or you get trod onnasty as it sounds convincing a dog that it will get trodden on if it lies around in the center of the floor is actualy the best way to get a dog to move. If you can do this kindly nudging a dog out of the way with your foot that's better, but if it happens the other way, well. The free run I mentioned for ~Reever isn't really so much as to do with toileting as it is to do with just having a run around on the grass for fum, indeed I make dam sure she goes before hand. Guide dogs for me built a run, ie, a small pen near the  wall of the block of flats floored with flag stones, that is where Reever does her business and sinse it's all in one place clearing it isn't a
problem (remember I live on my own most of the time so any assistance I'd need to pay for). Reever tends to like people but will usually be a bit less forward about getting attention in a strange place, though if someone talks to her she'll usually come and  nose the person or put her paw on them.

My point about the remote button is BlindSquare allows you to access it through the remote button. You press the button once and it starts reading off options, when it comes to the one you want you click the button again. You can check location in case you have shake turned off and don't want to use the screen, activate sleep mode which deactivates with yet another button press at some later time, and so on. I completely see what you mean about not wanting to buy them without first hand experience though.

My momentums have a remote control, though sinse they're wired it's a bit pointless sinse generally if I'm close enough to plug them in I'm close enough to use the remote on my phone, but I didn't buy them  for their remote capability but for their sound quality. Generally if I'm cleaning or washing up or whatever I'll just carry my phone around and put it on a window sill or somewhere safe, though background noise does   sometimes get in the way.As I said, the  Aftershocks  are something I wouldn't mind seeingin  action, but wouldn't really want to buy unseen, sinse fundamentally I already have an amazing set of wired headphones, and my  sanheisa earbuds are fine when I'm out as well as probably being the best sound quality available for 30 quid, I wouldn't want to carry my Momentums as they're total cutout headphones and  are thus slightly larger, plus were sor

Consider whether it is simply your brain realising many of these "small voices" are performed by adult voice actors putting on a younger sounding voice. Are you finding the same reaction to adults with smaller voices? As examples perhaps Bernadette from the Big Bang Theory, Amy Wong from Futurama or Trance from Andromeda? If this is really troubling you it might be worth considering counselling, not because you're doing anything wrong but because it's causing you so much distress.

Re: Microsoft to end support for Windows 7 in 2015

Um, I've owned a MacBook pro for four years going from Snow Leopard through to Mavericks and everything in between. I think that qualifies as giving it a try somehow. My conclusion is I'm still stuck with Windows *if* I want reasonable access to audio games and muds, which simply are only available on Windows. I'm sure there are Mac audio games, in fact I own silver dollar for Mac, but you can't for example get any of the GMA products.I love my Mac I really do but all I'm generally using it for is general usage, something I could probably do just as well with an iPad connected to a USB keyboard. I'd have less media storage but I can find a work around for that, and an iPad will cost significantly less than a MacBook Air which will still give me media storage issues anyway. Thus a Mac is more than I need for general usage, and doesn't have the range of audio games available that I desire for leisure purposes. It can be a fantastic sys
tem but like many people I am beginning to think a tablet will fill my needs in the portable role better at a lower price and with more flexibility in terms of portability.

Small point, MS don't see their OS as a long term investment they see them as products with a limited shelf life. Apple use the OS to sell the hardware and frankly I doubt they really care if individual users stick with an older version, it doesn't cost them anything. I have serious reservations about business practices on both sides but that seems a given at this level of corporate tactics, the fact is that that Apple provide Mac OS as a form of support for their hardware so they're freed from a fair chunk of the usual marketing crap.

Re: Microsoft to end support for Windows 7 in 2015

Of course, with the logic that many XP holdouts now use to hold out, you're just as well off on Vista as 7. Don't buy the hype; just switch browsers. As to being stuck on Doze, the only people you're kidding is yourselves. I'm fairly good at change, and while I recognise that others are less good, and that not all change is for the better, the fact is that you're never going to know one way or another whether OS X (or Linux) is right for you until you give that platform a try. So, give it a try! As for the reasons, well that's a different matter. For me, back in 2008-2009, it was development, and a command line on my desktop. I still entertain Windows on one of my main machines for
some of my technical/sysadmin work that is limited by the Mac version of VMWare Fusion, but I've been glad I made the jump, because I'm really the happier for it. Similar comments apply to Linux, if you have the nerve. You simply don't have to stay where you are; you now have choices, and should be investigating those choices to suit yourself.

Re: Pining for Snow Leopard

I actually do think functionality has been lost. Calendar and Contacts are nothing like their Leopard counterparts. Mail has had several features removed from it; in Mavericks, you can't even display the plain text of messages. New and upcoming features are almost exclusively about iOS coupling, and have no real benefit to the OS as a whole; if I didn't know better, I'd swear Mavericks was Snow Leopard 2.0, with under-the-hood changes to tide Apple over another release, without any real functionality improvements at all.Yes, Apple is more respectful to its user base as regards UI changes, unlike Micros~1. Yes, there have been VoiceOver changes for the better. Yes, you can now edit OpenDirectory using a GUI application. Yes, iCloud is sweet for contacts and calendar syncing. But let's be honest, are you going to miss that stuff? Really miss it? And is it not arguable that most of what you see should already have been in SL, or can be implemented using ext
ernal services? The real horror came when I tried upgrading my first MacBook to Lion, the last version it supports, and it  ground to a halt under the memory strain. Think what you will of M$, but making sure their operating systems are long-term investments is something you could count on. Maybe it isn't true today, but I think the loss of SL is not dissimilar to the loss of XP on the opposing side. Both companies are trying their best to push us in the direction they think of as best, and we're not obliged to take the parts we don't like; with Apple, I fear it's just the lesser of the two evils right now.And don't get me started on the way Apple locks its installation media to its machines, and even makes it impossible to use earlier media to perform an install!
