Re: iOS game discovered: "Adventure to fate", a turn based jrpg

Hmmm, I'm not sure I explained the pet thing correctly. What i was thinking would be something like if pets were in battle arena, you could choose one pet for the dungeon arena but had to go through all 30 or however many battles with that pet, and couldn't change again until you got to the desert arena, ditto with the jungle and undead arenas. I'm assuming that because the next Adventure to fate game will have exploring as a feature, with dungeon floors you can enter and wander around on finding traps and treasure and getting jumped on by monsters and all that jaz, the dungeon locations will be separated, either there will be floors, or there will be a "dungeon thenn town" type of setup, with the town containing your shops and character options, or at least some sort of break between successive dungeon floors where you could change pets.Hope this makes sense. One other thought I had is that perhaps the amount of time you must keep a pet varie
 s with each pet. Suppose each pet had an "attachment" meater, which dictated how happy the pet was to be away from it's new mistress/master. Each battle, the attachment meater would get filled up a bit, and when it was full, you could change pets. This could also factor into how well the pet performed, sinse a faithful wolf might give an awesome burst of rage, but wouldn't be happy being left for quite some time, while a giant ant might be a pretty mercinary beast and quite happy to be picked up and put down, but not quite as effective.Indeed you could even consider a system of tying the effectiveness of the pet to how long the character used it, sinse manifestly a horse and rider who've trained together  would be far more effective than one who hadn't, that  would also encourage players to take the pets into fights that their powers were not! suited for, just to continue raising their skills.Btw, both of these thoughts were
  enspired by Reever my guide dog, sinse guide dogs are certainly not! either interchangeable or too happy about being abandoned, but it's also true that the more time you spend and the more things you go on training your dog, the better things get.As for a development thread, well "general game discussion" is where such things have gone in the past, though perhaps with more developers and people making announcements and calls to sign up to closed betas and what not, maybe creating an "upcoming games room" wouldn't be a bad idea, though the issue I see would be separating out the rampent speculation/anticipation from actual announcing .Still, as we don't have such a room right now and perhaps won't in future, "general game discussion" is the place to post a development thread for now.

Hey dark I think you misunderstood me. You would simply have to be in town or a safe place to change your pet but even that is kind of a bother so I think I'll just make it so you can switch pets on the fly just not during battle. And no problem stevie thanks for giving the game a try. I make these because I love games and I love seeing people enjoy my work. I grew up on games so I know how important they can be. Hey dark I started a development thread on toucharcade and figured I would start one here too if that was ok so I could keep you all updated on development progress and get input. Where would be the best place to post it? On touch arcade they have an upcoming games section.

It might but again, some developers might think games are accessible when they're not (some people treat "blind" as being able to see certain things instead of total lack of vision etc).  I wonder how you tag a steam game?  Maybe some skullgirls players from this forum should get on tagging it as completely playable by individuals with no vision...

Re: Audio labelers

I am a fan of the Penfriend, but I admit I didn't consider or look around at other devices.  I find the sensor pickup on labels is particularly good and I like the fact that the labels are small enough to  say stick in the corner of a dvd box so you can label where each disc goes (I don't label the discs themselves sinse I'm not sure what the labels would do, but labelling the box is just as effective). to answer your question about the instructions, the pen friend comes in a rather nice travle box and the instructions are actually contained on pre recorded pen friend labels in that box, as well as being a dstnadard text file. I know that using the labelling machine to read the instructions on how to use the labelling machine seems redundent to the point of insanity, but it actually isn't, indeed if I remember rightly when you first switch the machine on by default an instructional file will play on how to play the instructions which will also
 tell you the basics of making labels.I wouldn't really use the penfriend for disposable labels on tins or medication or anything I want to throw away after use, particularly because though the labels can be backed up on computer, actually fidning what file is what is dam difficult sinse it doesn't give them sensible numeric names, so it'd be quite hard to delete, plus I don't know how the machine handles label priority.The only two things that are a miner issue with the penfriend are firstly you can't choose your label size, so I've got loads of the larger size ones that I've just never found a use for, (they're about the size of a credit card as you said and way too big for me to want to muck up my dvds with them), and you can't choose what new packs of labels you buy or new types, you just get lumbered with a pack containing both the large and the small sorts, so if you don't use the large ones your wasting cash. The only other thing I don't like is that a couple of opperations in the machine seem specifically designed to be done slowly. For example to turn on and off, you need to push and hold the on button for about a quarter second, and though reccording is fairly simple given that you hold the reccord buttonn point the machine at the label and wait for the ping, the recording doesn't actually start again until about a quarter second after the ping, meaning that frequently I needed to re reccord labels because the first syllable got chopped off. I have a sneaking suspicion that this was done for those slow fumble fingered blindies, but I'm not sure. this is however a miner annoyence in something I'm generally amazingly pleased with, indeed I love the fact that all my cds, dvds and games are so easy to label, and also that unlike with braille i can get as much information as I like onto a label which takes up a tiny physical space, so if I want to say &quo
 t;The hobbit the desolation of Smaug special addition disc 3, appendices part 9 making the dragon, costumes and realizing the battle" I can do .Also, despite aforesaid moanings, applying labels is very quick. I employed a friend of mine who also served as my research assistant, and in less than half an hour we were able to get done all 7 series of Buffy the Vampire slayer and all 5 series of Angel, each series containing six disks, (she reading the discs, me sticking on and speaking labels).Actually, sinse my bank is closing their closest branch to me and I'm going to need to telephone bank, I'm going to stick my bank details on penfriend labels and attach them to my desc, well nobody will be able to read them and it'll be much more secure than on a text file on my computer .

Firstly, the big news: Predator is available now along with a couple of other things:The additional skins, including a re-voiced Jax skin with Carl Weathers in the role during the intros, outros and walkout animation etc.  Unfortunately the grab isn't re-voiced yet but you never know.  There's also an easter egg for fans of the first Predator movie if you select Carl Weathers' Jax and Commando Johnny that comes with this pack and don't press any buttons, you should see it (it isn't totally visual, don't worry).Note: the two skins I mentioned above, as well as the Infrared Scorpion costume are all one up from the default skin selection position.[/*The first free pack of classic fatalities, with Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage and Sonya are available now to the majority, although apparently EU PSN users are still having issues.As for the questions in the previous couple
 of posts:If I remember correctly you have to go through the tutorial to unlock story mode.  My game, for some unknown reason, reset a few valuables a while back and I had to replay tutorial and story then worked.In terms of the access options, I can't tell you exactly where they are unfortunately, but I can hopefully get that sorted at some point soon.

I have yet to play To The City.Paradox Factor is sci-fi exploring the heady theme of action and consequence. It's quite short, and sufficiently predictable that you shouldn't have much trouble with it, although you may suffer from bouts of frustrating boredom. No unbreakable puzzles, though, so you'll be all right. That's my first suggestion for now. It's brought to you by the same author as Lives of Wizard and Mobster: both excellent, and likewise dark and forlorn.

I do something like that now, I'd been using Red Laser on my iPhone for grocery items, because they usually will have their UPC codes on them, but I have since discovered Digit-Eyes, the big difference between the two is that the database Digit-Eyes uses has more detailed information like cooking instructions. Red Laser seems more interested in telling me where I can buy it for less where Digit-Eyes seems more interested in telling me everything there is to know about it. I use the UPC scan to identify items as I put them away, that way I'll know what's what by where it is.I try not to use these labels on consumables, that would burn through labels pretty quickly.I have thought about getting a dedicated UPC scanner, simply for higher performance, sometimes it can be a real test of your patience to get either iPhone app to see a UPC and scan it.

Re: iOS game discovered: "Adventure to fate", a turn based jrpg

Well there is nothing with amazingly tactical rpg combat on Ios, sinse the options  that exist with hugely complex combat such as  the card games like Ayashi ghost patrol and  Haypy monster are extremely dodgy for access.There are a few more casual mmorpgs and grinders. However, on the other hand in the world of browser games and muds, both of which could! be played on Ios there is plenty, including lots of tactical stuff. If it fits in the game and is optional fare enoughk, though too often I've seen games that supposedly  claime to have "optional pvp" spend the lion's share of the development time on the pvp system and promoting that system, or basically make the single player mode highly uninteresting. Of course there is no guarantee that this would happen with adventure to fate, but as I said it's something I've seen far too often,particularly sinse for screen reader compatibility reasons the majority of acce
 ssible rpgs have been browser based or occasionally on Ios.On the issue of pets, I'm not sure if I like the idea of your character getting one pet and being stuck with it for the hole game, however I do see the problem if pets are too interchangeable, they just become another equipment item. So, how about pets are dungeon specific? So in terms of the existing battle arena, you could choose a pet at the start of each arena for each character, but had to finish that arena with that pet before you got chance to change.That also gives the dungeons a gauntlet feeling, though of course it depends upon how the dungeons vs shops etc are organized in the next game.

Re: New Infinite Apocalpytic Procedural Ascii Game "The Wastes"

I think there is more to be done with towns later, like you being able to own buildings etc, but it's not implemented yet.With the mine, it actually seems hammering space works remarkably well, I made over 100 K gold by finding a place that bought diamonds for 95 each and then using that to buy the best pickaxe and double xp from mining, I also got from character level 10 to 12 out of it. Actually that game rocked! i was lucky enough to get some early mutations and then used them to go through a lot of things, unfortunately I fell foul of the repeating titan bug, and just finished up committing suicide. Still, here is my graveyard just for awesome factor, though note it lists the version as 7.1 rather than 7.2, and also doesn't know the difference between boys and girls:jenny dethon travelled through 175 places in the wasteland, he died at level 12 and the last thing he saw was a Sickly WormFlea Titan in the region known as Rockydirt Valleyjenny dethon travelled through Great Rockying Desert into the small stretched waste of Philip's Crater, from there he passed into the small stretched waste of Dovetor Settlement Crater, from there he passed into the expansive wastes of Rockydirt Valley Where his journey ended.---SKILLSHealth               - 165Strength             - 20Agility              - 20Lockpick             - 23-OTHER STATS-Times Mutated        - 7Mutation Level       - 30Money                - 36045Kills                - 112Regions Cleared  &n

Hi Dark,no no, you dont have to hammering space all the time. I think every mining needs 3 or 4 seconds. Thats why i said sounds would make it a little bitmore clear for us what and when to do.Looking forward to save my game so i can try to raise up my first character for a little longer. I realy like the fact that materials have different prices in different towns. I also hope that there will be something like a traveling option to visit allready explored towns.

New attempt:http://sik.titandemo.de/.junk/audio3.oggThis is definitely much better. At least now I can tell apart things even though I'm not using headphones. Still needs improvement I suppose, but I want to see if people can start getting an idea of what's going on. (also I noticed that pretty much every sound effect is happening where the player is so far, making 3D positioning for them useless...)Amusingly at this point it barely even resembles vOICe at all.

Re: Announcing release of Interceptor by Valiant Galaxy Associates

This is the place where I was going to post my stats, but the VMware fusion clipboard sharing thing broke. So, I beat the game and got around 26 points, which is not my highest, that would be around 28 IIRC.Something I was thinking of, the command and control ship and the motherships are kind of underpowered. Don't get me wrong, if you get an unlucky rocket in your face, or go into the fight damaged, it could get more interesting. But just now during this game, I had only a single Epsilon on level 9 so went in mostly OK, pretty much everything in the 90's and a full load of rockets. out of all of those only 1 actually connected, which really didn't mean much because I moved in, and 4 neutrino shots later it was over. For a ship that the manual describes as something you should never come in contact with in a small fighter, it's quite wimpy. The main gun mostly gets deflected and does minimal damage, while you can knock out its deflectors in one sh
 ot. If you want to keep this kind of mothership in the game, perhaps make it longer, maybe 12 or 15 levels longer and add a super mothership which could either have more health, so you couldn't just one shot the deflectors, or have it generate a jamming field of some kind that would make computer assisted shots near impossible.

Cruiser, are you trying to use mushclient, or Mush-Z?  They are not the same thing.  You can get Mush-Z from http://mush-z.com - download the Alter Aeon installer and use that.If you have a previous version of mush-z that doesn't work, you might have to uninstall it and delete the directories.

Greetings tward.Again, I must thank you for explaining it all. Unfortunately I don't have the same skill set as you have when it comes to explaining things. It all sounds fine in my head but when it comes out... Also, you may be surprised that I'm happy that science could be disproving spiritual experiences. Why does he want that when his very belief system depends on them? Although I'll still believe in the out of body experiences, I see no problem at all incorporating science into the mix even if the aim of the scientists is to disprove the subjective experience. To me, they simply go hand in hand. Thanks again and it's much appreciated.Kind regards, Amin Abdullah.

Open Broadcaster Software

2015-07-13 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Articles Room : Sightless Kombat via Audiogames-reflector

Open Broadcaster Software

***Disclaimer.***If this article contravenes the rules of the forum, moderators please let me know***End of disclaimer***I've been using Open Broadcaster software for a while and I've seen many blind and visually impaired users have trouble or just be almost intimidated by the interface.  Therefore, I'll try and give what tips I can here linking to information that I find useful etc.  This won't probably turn into anything, might not even be expanded beyond this point, but we'll have to see.This article is designed to help those wishing to stream games, whether they be audio games with graphics or mainstream content, with the assistance of a screen reader, highlighting pitfalls and interesting quirks that might be encountered.Things you'll needThe software, found here:Download OBS(note:
  It's good if you have both 32 and 64 bit versions of OBS on your PC, for reasons that I'll go into later)A desktop or laptop running an os listed in the system requirements.  Windows 8.1 will be used in this example.If you feel the need, a screen reader.  NVDA will be used in this example as it is the only one that has been tested extensively with twitch and OBS.***Information*** although other screen readers may work, results may vary.***end of information***If you wish to stream your games, you'll need an account with a service such asTwitch.tv, found hereStreaming is not necessarily the main objective this tutorial, just an added step if people want to try it.If you wish to capture gameplay from a console, you'll need a capture card/device.
  The example used here will be theElgato Game Capture HD.If you wish to commentate during gameplay, some kind of microphone.  Whether that's a voice recorder, headset microphone, or USB audio device, it doesn't really matter.  Set up proceedures may vary for different devices, but a USB microphone will be used in this example.***commentary may not even be covered, but it's a possibility***For those of you wanting to make sure your stream is of the best possible quality with your set up, having a sighted friend/person who is able to check your stream by visiting its page is helpful.  This is especially true for individuals with no vision whatsoever, as the stream might sound fine but the video might have "blocky frames", where movements look very stiff and juddery.  There are those who would
  say that it doesn't matter, but if you personally want the best looking stream, run a few tests just to check whenever you change things.A word about screen readersOBS is one of those programs that requires a bit of getting used to.  One of the most important things is that you can't actually right click in the boxes (for adding sources and such), you have to use mouse keys (NVDA+left Mouse to root the mouse cursor to the box, then right mouse to get into the menu, e.g. the source menu).Speaking of the source menu, That's probably the only context menu you'll need to use.  The program is, apart from the above minor inconvenience which is just that at best and irritating at worst, fine with NVDA.Initial SetupOnce you've installed OBS (which is relatively straightforward if you've used pretty much any other windows installer), take a look around the window.  You'll see that things
  can be navigated pretty much with tab, shift tab, and space/enter.If you want to set up OBS for streaming with a service like twitch, I'd recommend this guide, found on the twitch help page.A couple of notes about this guideIt's not exactly up-to-date, from what I can gather.  There are boxes missing in places where it says there should be boxes, and the networks tab isn't actually able to be altered, as far as I can tell.  However, if you just work around those small quirks, the guide gives you all the information you should need.Bitrates:  The recommended bitrate is 3000 KBPS - around that at least.  This is way too high for most people, even twitch partners.  After I did some initial tests and reading on various forums and such, I discovered that around 1800 or so was good for my specific setup.  I'd s
 uggest tailing it back to around 1500/1600 kbps, and then seeing what results you get and running tests.It's fairly obviously designed for people who aren't visually impaired (note the use of screenshots that don't have alt text), but it's easy enough to understand with a little patience.  The settings dialog is activated by a button in the main window, which can be found by using the tab key.  Alternatively, it's probably easier just to use shift+tab and go over to it.I've never had a need for scenes in recording my gameplay, I just select a source I've added (by right clicking as explained above in the sources list and go to the global sources submenu.If you want to add a global source for later use, you can go to the global sources button in the main OBS window and when the dialog appears, click add and follow the instructions.(Note: game capture is generally reserved for appli

Xbox One: Console and Controller guide

***This guide is currently under construction, with the console sections to be added later as well as everything being gradually tidied up***an introductionMicrosoft's Xbox One had a tough launch period, with kinect launch titles like "fighter Within" being panned by critics.  However, it's been a long time since the console first entered the market and now it is still a viable alternative for blind and visually impaired gamers, in spite of it's relative lack of playable games (at least for the former demographic).This article aims to demonstrate that the console's accessibility, whilst not in line with PC standards at the moment,is at least a true testament to the legacy set by it's predecessor, the Xbox 360, released back in 2005.Microsoft accounts and gamertags: debunking a few myths of sortsGamertags have been around as long as XBox Live was in existence.  They are what your friends and other gamers know you by in online lobbies and the like, unless of course you choose to share your real name with your friends - a privacy related debate that I won't get into here.  However, when setting up for the arrival of my Xbox One, I had a few burning questions that I thought other people might benefit from hearing answers to.Can I have an alternative email address for my gamertag?Yes you most certainly can!  This question stems from the fact that the only information I could find about Gamertags was to do with Microsoft accounts.  However, when youmake your microsoft account, you can actually choose to use an alternative email address.  Just enter it in the box and it'll work, there shouldn't be any issues.Can I use SmartGlass without having the console to pair it with? How much functionality will I getout of the app?Definitely.  You don't actually need the console for SmartGlass to work.  Just sign in with your details and you should be good to go!Can I cue downloads before I get the console so that I can get things going as quickly as possible?Yes you can, although what actually happens after sign in is currently uncertain, I will update this section once I know more.SmartGlassWhilst Xbox 360 SmartGlass was a bit of a pain to get working, it did a couple of interesting things that were quite useful, not least of which was allowing you to launch games from a windows 8 compatible device without even touching your controller.The Xbox One counterpart, a separate app in the ITunes App Store and on Android, is a whole new way of looking at the features of the 360 version.  It has several useful features including being able to watch game DVR clips while on the go, viewing in-game help manuals and, perhaps most useful of all, allowing you to purchase items (only free ones have been tested) directly from within the app.***More information to be added***The ControllerThe Xbox One controler, hereafter refered to as the controler, is similar to the xbox 360 version.  The Xbox button has been redesigned into an interesting raised circle of sorts with the logo imprinted into it, which is a lot less strange than the 360.  Actually, I'm going to spend so much time comparing the two that I'll give my first recommendation about this part of the system: if you can, try one.  If you do try one, try it with a game you know.The controler itself is well built, as you'd expect from a first party product.  The buttons are responsive (including the Dpad), with the analogue sticks being smooth and precise.  The triggers, whilst evolved from the X360 equivalent, are still as sharp as ever with the only minor point being the new bumpers.Where you could previously press the bumper anywhere along its length to activate whatever function the game ties it to, those on the next generation controler are more finicky.  Whilst not unusable by any means, they require an element of practice to master, with not pressing in on the edges being the best way I found of making them do as expected.The play and charge kit controllerThe play and charge version of the controller, unlike the standard wireless controler comes with two important things: A lithium-Ion (LI) battery, allowing for long-term recharging without using large numbers of double A batteries, in addition to a micro USB cable.Opening the boxBefore you get access to your new controller, you'll need to open the box.  To do this you'll need a pair of scissors to cut the tape then you'll pretty much be ok, or at least you should be.  Things are packaged in an orderly fashion, with the usual instructional manuals and such included as well.Inserting the LI BatteryThe battery is a kind of long, slightly squashed close to cylindrical shape, like those featured in the 360 version, with a couple of small redesigns.  You simply slide off the back pannel of the controller (which takes a while to get used to, not that you'll do it that often with the play and charge version), push the battery in so that the small contact inserts into the whole in the cont

Re: ? looking for Ideas for my latest project

I thought about writing a Sequel to Arqon. However, the first game received low ratings at the 2014 IF comp. Many people who reviewed my game said that I should switch from W&W (the system from "Reliques of Tolti-Aph") to Inform ATTACK (the combat extension used in "Kerkerkruip"). However 99% of the game requires the magic system from W&W (the protagonist is a magical assassin, remember?). So, unless I can port the magic system from W&W to Inform ATTACK, it's going to be imposible to switch. Another thing is the IF community's dislike (sometimes even hatred) of text RPG's; If I continue writing the Arqon series I will have to find other means of hosting the game (perhaps I could use a tilde for this).Well, anyways, this rant is over.

Events as in scenes and such?Perhaps you could place them on the map. For instance, you probably have a 2D array to represent your map, where you can walk and where you can't, etc. Perhaps you could add a secondary array the same size as your map which contains either some offset in to an array of event classes (or handles to event classes) on the squares for which events should trigger? This way when you take a step, you check that array and if an event should trigger where the player is standing, you fire it. Another approach is to just have an array of event classes which contain properties like their X and Y position and some active status flag. When the player moves you loop through them and activate if needed.int events_length = events.length();
for(int I=0;i= events[i].left_edge&&player.x <= events[i].right_edge&&player.y >= events[i].bottom_edge&&player.y <= events[i].top_edge&&events[i].active)
{
events[i].trigger();
}
}Lots of conditions, but only one if. You could wrap some of those checks up in a function if you want cleaner code but that's the general idea.

Re: Audio labelers

Well its all about what you need, for example I'd try to score a barcode reader like the ID Mate quest or the summit, reason being is that way, it contains a huge database and all you have o do is scan it and read through. For food items, it gives cooking instructions and nutritional facts and all the relevant stuff. I know it does CDs and DVDs too, It will do off the shelf pills or tablets, but for prescriptions, you need something else. I've never owned one, but from the demonstrations I have heard, it works quite well. Also no labels to keep track of. Maybe a combination of the two would work for you. Use the audio labels on stuff that never changes. and use the barcode reader for food and other stuff. It also will read UPC codes I think. It does a lot.

Re: Braillemon status update!

Part of the fun of Braillemon is figuring out the best way to implement these features. I don't think I'll redesign Mt Moon since most of the issues related to Mt Moon are present even in sighted form, which means keeping the integrity of the original game. Mt. Moon is fairly linear once you know which exit you have to go through (specifically the furthest one from the entrance). Spoiling the game through clues takes away a lot of the experience in the game but also reduces the frustration involved with it as well, it's quite a delicate balance.I will probably replace the sliding puzzles with something more accessible. Outside of those the only thing I can think of on the top of my head that's particularly overly difficult would be maybe Seafoam Islands/Victory Road with the strength puzzles, but I think these could be simplified enough where a blind player could figure it out. Essentially with those you want to avoid pushing the stone into a corner so a
 s long as I give enough maneuverability I think that I could make some pretty accessible strength puzzles. For the most part thought strength just involves pushing something out of the way, lol.I think Imaginatrix's idea with telling you where the warps go is a great idea for Silph Co. It will really help players work with walk throughs. Not sure how I'll implement that into Sabrina's gym but like I stated I could go with a more accessible design and completely redo it.

Yeah it's been so long for me as well, that I can't really even remember any tips or tricks.  CAE's suggestion does sound right though.  Some missions are about balance, but others require you to save up a huge food source for your target animal so that their population can explode into a large number.  If you have too little food, they won't get as high as you need before the food is gone and they crash back down into extinction.

Re: Bokurano Daibouken pole : Which one in this series dyou like the most?

You know, the only thing about the epic side battle sequences in the last 5 stages of BK3 that bothers me is the lack of Yamijin's laugh? I can't really place one above the other, since each has something unique to it that I rather like. The minigames and NPCs in the first game, and just the whole atmosphere, are just fun. The second game, for all that it is almost completely linear, manages to trigger my "I'm just going to turn on cheats and hang out in this level for a while" enthusiasm in a way normally reserved for mainstream games from the early 90s (and the PS1 Marvel Vs Capcom games, because what's not to like about staying in practice mode just to have Roll fly around on a robot duck while lo-fi JPop plays in the background?). The third game does a lot of interesting firsts for Audio Games--*Computer forceably restarts without askin
 g, but somehow post remains in the box when gets back*--you actually have to solve problems and look for creative solutions, the story is pretty well developed, there is a real sense of tension, and it refines the 2d platform experience so very well that I expect something like it to be standard for quite a while But I'm still waiting to hear Yamijin laughing gleefully while chopping up bio-energy desks.

Yea I'd love to do pvp in an adventure to fate and think it's a great fit but it's a little over my head at the moment. I think I could figure how to get it to work but getting it secure and protected from cheaters is a whole other story. It won't be in the upcoming game but I can see it being in the next free version of the game.I'm actually traveling Europe at the moment and have a lot of down time on the trains so I've been getting a ton done. The pet combat system is almost complete so after that I figure I'll add them to the character creator and make a section somewhat Iike the spell book so you can organize and pick from your pets before battle. I'm not sure if I'm going to make it so you can set your pet at any time or only allow you to set and bring 1 pet from town.

Audio labelers

2015-07-13 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : GeneWarner via Audiogames-reflector

Audio labelers

I currently use the VoxCom audio labeling system. It worksbut at the time I bought it, I hadn't thought too much about it, or I would have seen problems. The first is that it's labels are large, about the size of a credit card, not very good if you want to label a pill bottle, and an even bigger problem, it only allows for 100 unique labels, that may seem like a lot at first, but by the time you put labels in your DVDs, software, CDs, etc., you find 100 labels isn't very many. I only have six unused labels left.So I boughta Voila labeling system to eventually replace the VoxCom. Its labels are much smaller, about 2 inches by 3/8 inches, so they'd work for small things. The labels appear to be intended to be reused because they seem pretty durable. While experimenting with it, I noticed that it's pretty finickey about how fast you pass its scanning tip over its labels, though I suspect over time you'll learn the right speed and get it right ever
 y time. It too has a limit on the number of unique labels in can handle, at 250 labels, it's better than the VoxCom, but after the VoxCom label shortage, I wonder if even that many will be enough. Its still in its box, untouched except for about 15 minutes of trying it out, so if I decide to go with something else, I can still return it.So now I'm thinking of getting a Pen Friend. From what I can tell, they're using something like an RFI chip in the labels, I say this because at only 13mm or 1/2 inch, the labels are too small to scan for a bar code, and the description says, you just bring the reading tip of the Pen Friend close to the label for it to read it. I also noticed that one store here in the United states has label pack H, which means eight packs of labels with about 400 labels in each pack for a total of 3,200 labels, and that doesn't include the magnetic or the laundry label packs. The up side of that is you'll never run out of unique labe
 ls, but the down side is that even with 4 GB of storage for 70 hours of audio data, it doesn't have the room to store a description for all those labels, which means you'll have to keep track of which labels you no longer have so you can delete the message for it.One other thing I noticed, the audio labeling systems are intended for the blind or visually impaired, and yet neither the VoxCom or the Voila come with an accessible manual. I don't know if the Pen Friend comes with one or not, but I found a text file with its instructions online, so it does have an accessible manual as far as I'm concerned.So, while I'm thinking about the Pen Friend, I thought I'd get some input from people who might have or are using any one of these labeling systems. I'd like to hear any experiences, thoughts, and advice you can offer.Thanks.

Games are a waste of time

Yes, games are a waste of time, or at least this new one is a game that lets you spend time in the wastes! This is a text style, single player  randomly generated rpg set in a post appocalyptic wasteland full of weerd mutant creatures, dangerous nomads and chemicals that can give you crazy mutations! Everything is randomly generated, even the monsters so you never know what will come up each time you play. The game is entirely text based and plays in a console window, although is compatible with all versions of Windows, and all commands work by entering menu style choices, eg, to attack hit 1, to use your weapon hit 2, and to try to flee hit 0 (I'd have a look at your keyboard and make sure you know where that 0 key is sinse you will be using it a lot). The game has changes coming out on literally a dayly basis, with new creatures, conditions, updates and fixes, so it's wise to keep a watch on the wastes page on Reddit, you can download the latest version at the appropriate link, however check back often to see new changes. As always our forum is here with This thread for your comments and thoughts. Hope you have fun wasting away your lives until death, , hope you have fun dying in the wastes, - mmm, hope you have fun playing the wastes, in which you will be dying, probably rather a lot! Still dying is fun! however much time you waste.

2015-07-13 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : tward via Audiogames-reflector

Re: What do people believe when it comes to religion and or spirituality?

@Zakc93, when I was going through my transition from  Christianity to non-theism I found myself asking the same kinds of questions. I did actually go out and try to find answers for them, and here is the conclusions I managed to come to after a bit of research.First, is why God would send someone to hell for not believing in Jesus. Unfortunately, salvation is the linchpin, the core doctrine, of Christianity. I could quote bible verses at you but the long and short of it is that one must implicitly believe in Jesus, accept him as one's personal savior, in order to be saved. If someone fails to accept Jesus as his or her personal savior, no matter why, they are apparently going to go to hell. From what I have read the bible doesn't seem to give any room for doubt.Personally, I think part of the problem here is the scriptures written long before philosophy and skeptical inquiry were well known. Therefore empirical evidence, the kind of evidence you and I
 would accept as being valid, wasn't even discussed or considered in the bible. One case in point is a little snip of Matthew I vaguely recall from my bible believing days.As I recall someone asked Jesus what would be the sign he was the Christ, the messiah, and Jesus replied that he would be crucified, die,  and be raised up on the third day. No other sign would be given.That's all well and good if one can verify it as having happened but after 2,000 years there is no way to validate the story, to confirm it, and if that is the only sign, per se, that would be given to verify Jesus as being the messiah then it is a very poor one by today's standards precisely because there isn't any empirical evidence that we can scientifically test. Thus the scriptures do not address the problem of empirical evidence, because I do not believe the writers felt such evidence was necessary. They assumed that simply telling the story would be more than enough to s
 way someone, and perhaps in those times it was.In any case if God is real he does not seem to want to force someone's beliefs by revealing himself in a way that can be objectively verified. It is as though God expects us to take his word on the subject, the bible, and to ignore our five senses in this matter. He has not made allowances for skeptical in query and rational evidence based research. It is actually one of the principle issues upon which I left Christianity, because I honestly believed, was looking for evidence, and found nothing that would convince me that he was real.Like you said I consider myself a fairly open minded person. If God would show me some sort of evidence I would find credible it would change my mind. If he is truly all knowing as people believe he is then God would know what it would take to convince me of his reality. It isn't that I am closed minded, have a grudge against God, etc but merely a skeptical inquiry that if God is rea
 l then there should be some empirical way to test his existence the same way I would any other living creature or being that inhabits our world.@Bashue, the best answer I can give as to why other atheists failed to explain their beliefs to you is simply they probably didn't know how. We aren't all good writers, we aren't all knowing on every subject, thus even though they might be convinced of their point of view they might not be able to explain it in a way another person with a contrary point of view would understand.All I can ay is I have had some education in this area. When I was in college I took a course on communications, and as part of my communications class we discussed how to debate controversial topics and get an opinion across without sounding accusatory or offensive. I probably wasn't the best student at it, but I did learn how to compose speeches and argue a opinion in a way that would get the points across in away that someone witho
 ut a detailed understanding of the subject could get it. Maybe those other atheists you talked to just didn't have the skills to get their points across.The other reason might be simply because I educated myself out of a religious world view. I grew up Christian, believed in everything I had been told, but when I started having doubts I started to do a lot of reading on the subject. I tended to read both Christian arguments and atheist arguments and decided after a couple of years went by that Christianity was not true. I didn't want to give it up, didn't want to leave my beliefs, but I did feel the scientific arguments against it were strong and convincing. Thus I might know more about why I believe what I believe than your average Christian or atheist because I came to my beliefs after much reading and personal soul searching.For example, I am no expert on the neurological sciences by any means. However, I do know there has been a lot of research
  put forth the last couple of decades into consciousness and as it turns out a lot of

Re: Survive the Wild!

hello. as for people who have trouble with directions. one simple sollution is too... never turn!  simply stay to the north all the time and forget about the turning system. luckally the controls for turning are really hard to accedentaly press so you can just stay facing north all the time and ignore the turning system.

Re: Luminals mission 8.

Trees and rocks, but especially be careful with the trees.It's been a while since I've played this mission, but I remember being more concerned with trees and rocks than grass.IIRC, they eat acorns and mushrooms? Or am I confusing them with squirrels?So I'd try to find some way to build them a huge food supply. It doesn't necessarily need to be sustainable, but it needs to keep them going long enough to complete the mission.

Re: Survive the Wild!

re the post about more energy being used while walking sideways or backwards. what sort of sense does this make? it doesn't take much more energy in real life, it just increases your chances of stumbling, running into things, and somewhat slower then walking forwards due to our bodies configuration. but it doesn't actually take much more energy. and those who learn to, can actually walk as fast, and as easilly, backwards, as forwards. hell. i already have enough trouble with the speed at which i get thirsty / hungry in the game. lol. and energy use is so anoying. as it is, i get down to 50 % energy, and i end up stumbling all the damn time. this also doesn't make much sense.. lol.unless i'm drunk of coursejust my views. if you decide to go this way, there's little i can do. but as it is, i end up spending most of my time either trying to make things to survive, and running out of time due to thirst and such things, or i finally get my
 self sorted out and start making some headway, only for one of the gits that seem to egsist in the gaming world, come along and just kill me because they can. i'm sorry, but that sort of activity, unless rp reasoned, or talked about before hand by the player, is just wrongand that is one reason a lot of people who have tried the game, end up giving up, and going away. because they can never get anywhere with the game, and everything just ends in frustration. why bother coming back after dieing, when barely 5 mins after doing so, somebody comes along, and kills you again. running out of food / water or what ever i can understand. these 2 or 3 people that just kill you because they can, is just anoyingif we rp something, or agree to have a fight for fun, fine. no problems. and for that matter, if i loosed an arrow and killed somebody by mistake, again, i'd say sorry, and try to help them gain back some of what they had lost. but generally, i don't see t
 he point in killing anybody, just cause it's possible. i know it was done this way so that it's realistic in the sense that you can kill. but if there is a couple of players that do nothing but kill everybody, maybe they should be being dealt with.

Re: New Infinite Apocalpytic Procedural Ascii Game "The Wastes"

Well I think I've determined the thing with saving, you need to actually find a town and take a room, though sinse towns seem pretty random that makes it a little difficult. I've got on better, particularly sinse the most recent v7.2 adds ability to exit dungeons, though I don't appreciate the fact that when I commented on the changelog the first thing I got was a round load of abuse from some guy for posting in the wrong place because stupid reddit won't let me create a new thread without solving one of those annoying visual capture things, so I appologised for posting suggestions in the changelog. Luckily said douchenozzle doesn't seem to be one of the game's developers,  indeed if the dev wants to come back and discuss access somewhere a little more friendly he'd be very welcome.

Re: Survive the Wild!

Hello,Sam, thank you for your response. I think I'll never find it, because when I turn 1 degree to left and make a step, item that shud be straight behind is behind and verry slightly to tle left ... and if I then turn 1 degree to the right, the same item is behind and verry slightly to the right. But I'll still try, because it's much harder to find things if they are straight infrunt but you don't know it ...Thank you again, Mayana.
