Hey Michael, thanks for for another great plugin! With MusicIP Mix as my source, my playlist just grows and grows with hundreds of played songs left in the list after a while. Hi Michael, I'm back home and have updated to the latest 7.9 beta. Rhapsody works fine playing albums, tracks, and radio channels, but Smart Mix isn't working for Rhapsody tracks. It will enqueue tracks, but it shows no track info and they are skipped over in the playlist. I didnt test a playlist from Rhapsody, but will do that next. Adding the folder for Artist Artwork cut the scan time down to 44 minutes, so now it's just the "building full text index" step that is slowing it down. One question... is this index only used for searching via the web UI? Does it have any affect on iPeng searches? Because I do most searching through iPeng and rarely use the webUI. *Sue* -"If you're happy and you know it turn the volume up and 'blow it out' (http://www.last.fm/music/The+Features/Exhibit+A/Blow+It+Out)."- 1 Touch | 2 Booms | 6 Radios | 1 Duet | 1 SB2 HP Proliant N54G | Logitech Media Server 7.8 | iPhone & iPad w/ iPeng Find me on 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue) | 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/suechastain) | 'Rhapsody' (http://www.rhapsody.com/members/mesue) 'My Journey to Musical Bliss' (http://www.geekintheforest.com/musical-bliss/) | 'Squeezebox is Dead. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.9 Problems/Bugs
I run a "look for new and changed" scan every night at 5AM on my server. Prior to 7.9, these scans would take 20-30 minutes and about the same when I would do "only rescan playlists" manually. Now under 7.9, both of these take almost two hours. What's the deal? I did change the performance setting to Maximum under the memory config. I was hoping it would make scans faster, not slower. Here's the scan summary from last night's scheduled scan for new and changed: > > Discovering files/directories: \\GANDALF\Music (32960 of 32960) > Complete 00:10:28 > Removing deleted files: \\GANDALF\Music (39 of 39) Complete 00:00:11 > Discovering playlists: \\GANDALF\Music\_.Playlists (47 of 47) Complete > 00:00:10 > Scanning new playlists: \\GANDALF\Music\_.Playlists (39 of 39) Complete > 00:11:32 > MusicIP Import (24 of 24) Complete 00:00:00 > Album cover lookup (18 of 18) Complete 00:00:08 > Artist picture lookup (1052 of 1052) Complete 00:47:51 > Building full text index (7 of 7) Complete 00:26:19 > Find updated coverart files (37 of 37) Complete 00:00:03 > Database Optimize (2 of 2) Complete 00:06:57 > > The server has finished scanning your media library. > Total Time: 01:43:39 (Tuesday, May 26, 2015 / 6:48) > Looks like artist picture lookup and building full text index is taking the longest. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.9 Problems/Bugs
Howdy! Here's a 7.9 request for improving the user experience when you want to use two Radios permanently paired for left and right channel output. The two Radio you want to pair should be treated as if they were one player with power state and volume locked together, and the ability to be part of a larger sync group as a linked pair. As it is now, it's a nice feature to pair up multiple Radios for a party or special situations, but to keep a pair of Radios permanently this way, it's real fiddly and annoying. For instance, you use sleep mode and only one Radio turns off, you have to adjust volume twice, and so on. Here's a thread with more info: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103677-How-to-control-a-pair-of-Radios-as-one-but-stay-sync-d-with-others&p=818796&viewfull=1#post818796 SUE -"If you're happy and you know it turn the volume up and 'blow it out' (http://www.last.fm/music/The+Features/Exhibit+A/Blow+It+Out)."- 1 Touch | 2 Booms | 2 Radios | 1 Duet | 1 SB2 HP Proliant N54G | Logitech Media Server 7.8 | iPhone & iPad w/ iPeng Find me on 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue) | 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/suechastain) | 'Rhapsody' (http://www.rhapsody.com/members/mesue) 'My Journey to Musical Bliss' (http://www.geekintheforest.com/musical-bliss/) | 'Squeezebox is Dead. Now I am getting this message: "To use Rhapsody/Napster, update your firmware." What am I supposed to do? I updated the Touch when it prompted me to, and none of my other players show a firmware update. While I was writing this message, my playlist ran out and I guess Smart Mix kicked in with a song from Rhapsody and it sent my Touch into a reboot loop until I played a local album. Thank you both. I see a lot of desirables in the changelog so maybe I will give it a try. I tried installing it back in October but there was some error about a file in use and I didn't have time to investigate so I just went back to 7.8. It might have just been that the service was taking a long time to stop. One more important question before I decide... [SlimDevices: Beta] If it ain't broke...
I am on Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2 - r33893 @ Wed Mar 21 Is the release version of 7.7.2 from mysqueezebox.com later than that? What's going on with 7.7.3? I have been enjoying such an incredibly stable system that it's almost boring (knock wood). Maybe I shouldn't change anything. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Recurring playlist
I usually have a dynamic playlist or Sugarcube playlist loaded, so for me it is annoying to have it load up a set of songs I recently just heard. Once I realize what happened I can just skip to the end of the list and start getting new songs, so not terribly annoying. But it did work properly at one time, and that's the most annoying thing about it. I found the thread and bug report from when I originally noted this in 2009. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?67096-Updating-Squeezebox-server-reverts-my-playlists-on-some-players&highlight=Playlist https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14315 Oh, I see you found it! :-) But will anyone see your new comment with a bug status of RESOLVED WONTFIX? Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Recurring playlist
I don't remember if I reported it here or in bugzilla (I can't find an open bug report) but it has been that way for a while. I think a developer commented and it may have been a WONTFIX situation, because I just got used to the fact I would have to save a playlist if I wanted to be able to come back to it after a restart, since all my players are always sync'd. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Recurring playlist
Is it possible your server is restarting? With synced players, I almost never get playlists to persist after a server restart. 99% of the time it loads an older one from a day or two before instead of the one that was loaded at the time of restart. Is anyone testing new and changed scans? It's screwy, I tell ya. I set one to run at 5 AM this morning, and when I checked at 11, the webui looked like it was still running, and had some weird stuff as shown in the screen shot (I didn't delete 117277 files yesterday, my library is only about 22,000 files). I looked at the scanner log, and there is nothing in it since a full rescan completed yesterday morning around 7:40 AM. There is definitely something still wrong with "scan for new and changed." I just deleted some music and fixed some tags in my files. The new and changed scan only picked up some of the changes (artists beginning with D and G) and didn't pick up any of the other changes (Artists later in the alphabet). It's like the scan isn't going through everything. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow
Okay, I found a few things and managed to get a successful scan on a sub-set of my library. 1) There were remnants of a Firefly Media Server service that kept trying to start on my server, several times per minute. It had thousands of entries in the event viewer. I haven't used this in ages and had no idea it was still even on there. So, it's gone now. 2) I had playlists in MusicIP. I deleted them and reloaded the MIP cache and was able to get a successful scan of ~1200 files. MIP is set to retrieve mixable status only here, too. 3) Abort Scan is definitely not working. 4) Using "cleanup" in the control panel messes up permissions on the cache folder until my server machine is restarted. I stopped using that and just manually emptied the folder to get a clean scan. Now I am trying the scan on my full library of 25,000 files. rbz: two hours was just a guess. I don't really know how long it took the last time (it was so long ago), but I'm pretty certain it was less than 2 hours. I'm not real certain of the new and changed rescan times, either. When I'd add new music I would create a playlist of the new songs and then do rescan playlists and that usually took 10-20 minutes depending on how much music I added. Twonky is disabled. I only have the default plug-ins at the moment. InstalledPlugins and DownloadedPlugins folders are both empty. I was waiting to finish a scan before adding plugins back. But, goodness, I sure didn't expect it to be a multi-day ordeal! Scanner.exe is is still in the task list, there is no crash shown in event viewer, and these two files continue to increase in size: squeezebox-persistent.db (15,456 KB and growing) squeezebox-scanner.db (259,639 KB and growing) squeezebox.db went from 89 KB to 111 KB and hasn't changed for an hour. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow
This was the initial scan that started automatically after installing 7.6. After 9 hours of scanning I stopped it before bed. It had been stuck on that one playlist for several hours. I deleted a bunch of playlists, including some large ones that might have had missing files in them. Then I restarted the scanning, thinking it would finish overnight, but it only got 4 songs. My server does other things at night so that might be what interrupted it that time. So just a few minutes ago I restarted SbS and kicked off another "look for new and changed" scan. Hopefully cleaning up the playlists folder does the trick. I still have some large ones, but they should not have any missing files. There are no shortcuts or symlinks, and the files are all local to the server running SbS. Server is 1.8Ghz single-core, with 2 GB RAM. Scans on 7.5 used to take less than 2 hours for full scan, and 20 minutes or so for new and changed. Third time's the charm... [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 cliff notes
I have had serious problems with Squeezebox server twice this week to the point where I have had to resort to using line in on my Boom with my iPod. It gets into a state where it will start playing and then just stop partway thru one song, and then it acts as if the server is not available, although the exe service is running. If I restart SBS, it just does the same. The only way I got out of it when it happened the first time was to uninstall and reinstall SBS. it happened again tonight and I just gave up after an hour trying to get it to run. Then I remembered that I had updated to 7.5.5 right before going out of town last weekend, and I am reading here about many issues with that version. So I am thinking of trying 7.6... [SlimDevices: Beta] Suggestion for better "touch to play" behavior
Instead of having the center button (SBC), knob (Radio), or touch (Touch) immediately play an item, how about if it showed a very short context menu with just: Play now (replace) Play next Add to end Then when you just want to play something, you can still do it quickly with a double click or touch twice but there is less risk of accidentally wiping your playlist. Later on when you get around to integrating a proper playlist manager, you can add "Add to playlist..." to the menu which would let the user browse saved playlists to add to or create a new saved playlist. For "party mode" all you have to do is take away the "Play now" option and change the dedicated play button to show the same menu. The current context menu can stay the same for the plus button. It would be easier to get used to if there was a clear indicator in the UI when a button press was going to trigger the play action. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Do you notice a difference in battery life with new Controller firmware?
Well, it seems my battery just decided to die right about the time the Controller changes came down. Over the weekend--the LONG weekend--I was only getting about 10 minutes on it. I received a replacement battery yesterday and after 2 hours using it, it did not even register a drop in the battery meter. (It spontaneously rebooted once and asked to send a crash report to Logitech.) I haven't yet tested to see how long it lasts off the cradle for a long time. My Controller normally stays in the cradle about 22 hours a day. I hope that isn't what led to premature battery death. -- MeSue SUE 1 Duet | 2 Booms | 1 Radio (beta) | 1 Touch (beta) | 1 SB2 HP MediaSmart EX470 | Squeezebox Server 7.4 Find me on 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue) | 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/suechastain) MeSue's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=985 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67197 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

[SlimDevices: Beta] Do you notice a difference in battery life with recent Controller UI changes
Does anyone else feel like the battery life of the Controller is significantly less since the changes with the Controller UI in firmware r7084 and higher? I have increased the suspend timeout, but I had done that with the older firmware too. It seems like my battery life is about half of what it used to be on the old (r5508?) firmware. I always have the Controller in bed while I read for about 2 hours every night. Previously, the battery indicator would be at about the half-way or 1/4 mark when I would turn out the light. Now it's always red by the time I am ready to turn out the light, and a couple times it has gone to the "please recharge me" screen before my reading time was up. My Controller is about a year old now, so the timing could be coincidental... that's why I'm asking if anyone else feels the same. -- MeSue Sue http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue MeSue's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=985 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67197 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
