Switched to LastMix option. Getting much better mixes and it keeps the

Playlist also working fine.

I've temporary disabled Rhapsody from Smart Mix until it's fixed. Let me

Hi Michael,

I'm back home and have updated to the latest 7.9 beta. Rhapsody works
fine playing albums, tracks, and radio channels, but Smart Mix isn't
working for Rhapsody tracks. It will enqueue tracks, but it shows no

I didnt test a playlist from Rhapsody, but will do that next. Anything I

Yeah, I think I will. For me it's slow and I never had a problem with

Adding the folder for Artist Artwork cut the scan time down to 44
minutes, so now it's just the "building full text index" step that is
slowing it down. One question... is this index only used for searching
via the web UI? Does it have any affect on iPeng searches? Because I do
most searching through iPeng and rarely use the webUI.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.9 Problems/Bugs

2015-05-26 Thread MeSue

I run a "look for new and changed" scan every night at 5AM on my server.
Prior to 7.9, these scans would take 20-30 minutes and about the same
when I would do "only rescan playlists" manually. Now under 7.9, both of
these take almost two hours. What's the deal? I did change the
performance setting to Maximum under the memory config. I was hoping it
would make scans faster, not slower.

Here's the scan summary from last night's scheduled scan for new and
changed:

Looks like artist picture lookup and building full text index is taking
the longest. Why do these take so long just for new and changed or
playlist rescan?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.9 Problems/Bugs

2015-05-22 Thread MeSue

Howdy!

Here's a 7.9 request for improving the user experience when you want to
use two Radios permanently paired for left and right channel output. The
two Radio you want to pair should be treated as if they were one player
with power state and volume locked together, and the ability to be part
of a larger sync group as a linked pair. As it is now, it's a nice
feature to pair up multiple Radios for a party or special situations,
but to keep a pair of Radios permanently this way, it's real fiddly and
annoying. For instance, you use sleep mode and only one Radio turns off,
you have to adjust volume twice, and so on.

Here's a thread with more info:

I am only getting the Rhapsody error when I try to browse Rhapsody from
the Touch. And if I have anything from Rhapsody playing and then turn on

Now I am getting this message: "To use Rhapsody/Napster, update your

What am I supposed to do? I updated the Touch when it prompted me to,
and none of my other players show a firmware update. While I was writing
this message, my playlist ran out and I guess Smart Mix kicked in with a
song from Rhapsody and it sent my Touch into a reboot loop until I
played a local album.

Where is this Random Album feature? Is it part of the Logitech Random

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.9 summary?

2015-03-22 Thread MeSue

Thank you both. I see a lot of desirables in the changelog so maybe I
will give it a try. I tried installing it back in October but there was
some error about a file in use and I didn't have time to investigate so
I just went back to 7.8. It might have just been that the service was
taking a long time to stop. One more important question before I
decide... Everything working good with Erland's plugins?

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.9 summary?

2015-03-22 Thread MeSue

Been out of the loop again... Is there anywhere I can get a summary of
the status of 7.9 without picking through long threads full of bug
reports?
what's new? known bugs? stability? worth trying?

Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Beta] If it ain't broke...

2012-05-30 Thread MeSue

I am on Logitech Media Server Version: 7.7.2 - r33893 @ Wed Mar 21

Is the release version of 7.7.2 from mysqueezebox.com later than that?

What's going on with 7.7.3?

I have been enjoying such an incredibly stable system that it's almost
boring (knock wood). Maybe I shouldn't change anything.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Recurring playlist

2012-05-22 Thread MeSue

I usually have a dynamic playlist or Sugarcube playlist loaded, so for
me it is annoying to have it load up a set of songs I recently just
heard. Once I realize what happened I can just skip to the end of the
list and start getting new songs, so not terribly annoying. But it did
work properly at one time, and that's the most annoying thing about it.

I found the thread and bug report from when I originally noted this in
2009.
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?67096-Updating-Squeezebox-server-reverts-my-playlists-on-some-players&highlight=Playlist
https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14315

Oh, I see you found it! :-) But will anyone see your new comment with a
bug status of RESOLVED WONTFIX?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Recurring playlist

I don't remember if I reported it here or in bugzilla (I can't find an
open bug report) but it has been that way for a while. I think a
developer commented and it may have been a WONTFIX situation, because I
just got used to the fact I would have to save a playlist if I wanted to
be able to come back to it after a restart, since all my players are
always sync'd.

Is it possible your server is restarting? With synced players, I almost
never get playlists to persist after a server restart. 99% of the time
it loads an older one from a day or two before instead of the one that
was loaded at the time of restart.

No, Rhapsody isn't like that. And, yes, it's annoying on MOG because
you have to back up to the list level to play an album. It's especially
annoying because MOG does not distinguish singles and EPs from
full-length albums, so you have to drill into the album track list to
see if it is a real album, then go back up a level to get play
controls.

It shows up as running process immediately, but it takes a few minutes
before you can actually access LMS and start playing music. I do use a
lot of plug-ins so I'm sure that is part of it, but the UPNP/DLNA
plugin really slowed it down a ton.

If it's left in, the DLNA plugin should be disabled by default IMO. I
was wondering why it was taking 5-10 minutes for LMS to become useable
after a restart since 7.7. I disabled this plugin and the startup time
went back to normal (3-5 minutes vs. 10-15 minutes).

Is anyone testing new and changed scans? It's screwy, I tell ya. I set
one to run at 5 AM this morning, and when I checked at 11, the webui
looked like it was still running, and had some weird stuff as shown in
the screen shot (I didn't delete 117277 files yesterday, my library is
only about 22,000 files). I looked at the scanner log, and there is
nothing in it since a full rescan completed yesterday morning around
7:40 AM. I clicked abort in the WebUI and now my headless server is
grinding away, the webUI is unresponsive, and the music keep stopping
and starting.

I didn't say before, but this was after a "new and changed" scan. After
a full rescan, the number of albums did go down. New and changed scan is
pretty worthless now.

Mine appears to go through all steps, and the WebUI shows the finished

2011-08-19 Thread MeSue

There is definitely something still wrong with "scan for new and
changed." I just deleted some music and fixed some tags in my files.
The new and changed scan only picked up some of the changes (artists
beginning with D and G) and didn't pick up any of the other changes
(Artists later in the alphabet). It's like the scan isn't going through
everything. These kinds of changes used to be picked up with "new and
changed" scan type prior to 7.6.

Thanks! I was wondering if it would also work to install 33011, let it
scan, then install 33044 over that.

Okay, thanks. Then how to recover after it's done (so I can have my
tunes back)? And what do I need to report here for troubleshooting?

There are a few entries in "My Music" already. It appears to be
everything that was loaded into Now Playing at the time the server was
started.

Didn't do anything special except make a backup of my 7.5.6 cache

For the record, I installed 7.5.6 last night, and had a successful full
scan that took 3:30. The scheduled "new and changed" scan ran at 5AM
and took half an hour. Still need to reinstall plugins and restore
Trackstat data.

I'm the tiniest bit tempted to try 7.6 without clearing the cache just
to see what happens. If WHS had a system restore function I might, but
it doesn't, so I'll be sticking with 7.5.6 for now, assuming it works
well.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow

2011-07-25 Thread MeSue

Okay, I found a few things and managed to get a successful scan on a
sub-set of my library.

1) There were remnants of a Firefly Media Server service that kept
trying to start on my server, several times per minute. It had
thousands of entries in the event viewer. I haven't used this in ages
and had no idea it was still even on there. So, it's gone now.

2) I had playlists in MusicIP. I deleted them and reloaded the MIP
cache and was able to get a successful scan of ~1200 files. MIP is set
to retrieve mixable status only here, too.

3) Abort Scan is definitely not working.

4) Using "cleanup" in the control panel messes up permissions on the
cache folder until my server machine is restarted. I stopped using that
and just manually emptied the folder to get a clean scan.

Now I am trying the scan on my full library of 25,000 files.

rbz: two hours was just a guess. I don't really know how long it took
the last time (it was so long ago), but I'm pretty certain it was less
than 2 hours. I'm not real certain of the new and changed rescan times,
either. When I'd add new music I would create a playlist of the new
songs and then do rescan playlists and that usually took 10-20 minutes
depending on how much music I added. Twonky is disabled.

Thanks for all the hand-holding. I will keep you posted...

2011-07-25 Thread MeSue

I only have the default plug-ins at the moment. InstalledPlugins and
DownloadedPlugins folders are both empty. I was waiting to finish a
scan before adding plugins back. But, goodness, I sure didn't expect it
to be a multi-day ordeal!

Scanner.exe is is still in the task list, there is no crash shown in
event viewer, and these two files continue to increase in size:
squeezebox-persistent.db (15,456 KB and growing)
squeezebox-scanner.db (259,639 KB and growing)

squeezebox.db went from 89 KB to 111 KB and hasn't changed for an
hour.

Ideas?

Now almost 4 hours later it appears to be finished, but it is not

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow

2011-07-25 Thread MeSue

This was the initial scan that started automatically after installing
7.6. After 9 hours of scanning I stopped it before bed. It had been
stuck on that one playlist for several hours.

I deleted a bunch of playlists, including some large ones that might
have had missing files in them. Then I restarted the scanning, thinking
it would finish overnight, but it only got 4 songs. My server does other
things at night so that might be what interrupted it that time.

So just a few minutes ago I restarted SbS and kicked off another "look
for new and changed" scan. Hopefully cleaning up the playlists folder
does the trick. I still have some large ones, but they should not have
any missing files.

There are no shortcuts or symlinks, and the files are all local to the
server running SbS. Server is 1.8Ghz single-core, with 2 GB RAM. Scans
on 7.5 used to take less than 2 hours for full scan, and 20 minutes or
so for new and changed.

Third time's the charm... I hope!

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow

2011-07-24 Thread MeSue

OMG, it is going to take almost as long to scan playlists as it took to
scan the song files!

Code:

Discovering files (27688 of 27688) Complete 00:22:03
Scanning new files (25383 of 25383) Complete 02:40:54
  Discovering playlists (49 of 49) Complete 00:00:12
Scanning new playlists (15 of 31) Running 01:11:21

Scanning my playlists in 7.5 took only about 15-20 minutes.

Anyone know how many more steps it does after this?

Of the plugins I use, I think Erland's, Spotify, and Sugarcube are the
main ones I wouldn't want to be without. Good to know Sugarcube will
work. I will have to check my other ones when I get inside (typing from
iPad in the backyard now). Music Info Screen is the only other I can
think of, but I could live without it if it broke.

Is SQLite less resource intensive? I have seen "onebrowser" mentioned
around here but haven't a clue what it means.

My cache is probably due for a cleaning and since I have to restore
Trackstat data anyway, I might as well wipe it.

Thanks for the tips!

In another thread Michael H said it was because the cache is stored in
a database in 7.6, rather than a bunch of individual files. It was
supposed to have been fixed way back in like 7.3, but it came back.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 cliff notes

2011-07-23 Thread MeSue

Thanks for the feedback. The reason I am leaning to 7.6 is because 7.5.x
takes an hour or more just to install due to something in the installer
that checks permissions on very file in the cache, and this is supposed
to have been fixed in 7.6.

Yep, I am religious about Trackstat backups. Appreciate the warning!

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 cliff notes

2011-07-23 Thread MeSue

I have had serious problems with Squeezebox server twice this week to
the point where I have had to resort to using line in on my Boom with
my iPod. It gets into a state where it will start playing and then just
stop partway thru one song, and then it acts as if the server is not
available, although the exe service is running. If I restart SBS, it
just does the same. The only way I got out of it when it happened the
first time was to uninstall and reinstall SBS. it happened again
tonight and I just gave up after an hour trying to get it to run.

Then I remembered that I had updated to 7.5.5 right before going out of
town last weekend, and I am reading here about many issues with that
version.

So I am thinking of trying 7.6... What are the major issues going on
with it at this point? Anything big I should be aware of before jumping
in?

[SlimDevices: Beta] Suggestion for better "touch to play" behavior

2009-10-09 Thread MeSue

Instead of having the center button (SBC), knob (Radio), or touch
(Touch) immediately play an item, how about if it showed a very short
context menu with just:

Play now (replace)
Play next
Add to end

Then when you just want to play something, you can still do it quickly
with a double click or touch twice but there is less risk of
accidentally wiping your playlist.

Later on when you get around to integrating a proper playlist manager,
you can add "Add to playlist..." to the menu which would let the user
browse saved playlists to add to or create a new saved playlist.

For "party mode" all you have to do is take away the "Play now" option
and change the dedicated play button to show the same menu.

The current context menu can stay the same for the plus button.

What do you think?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] How to update firmware for controller?

2009-09-19 Thread MeSue

You are way behind. The Controller is on r7649 now. Did you turn off
automatic updates in the server settings (WebUI)?

On the Controller, you can go to Settings > Advanced > Diagnostics and
then scroll down to Software update, and it should offer you a firmware
update from mysqueezebox.com. I'm not sure if that was added before or
after your version, but if you don't see it, I'd enable automatic
updates, restart your server, and then you should get a new firmware.

It would be easier to get used to if there was a clear indicator in the
UI when a button press was going to trigger the play action. I have been
going under the assumption that only single songs do the new select to
play behavior. I still slip up every once in a while on the NP list and
hit the button instead of +.

At least they fixed it so that Play no longer does the same as right
arrow!

In the Web UI settings there is an option to disable updates. I'd still
recommend updating about once a week or so because there are real fixes
going in all the time.

I have been able to ignore the update prompt on the Controller and it

[SlimDevices: Beta] Should there be a context menu for browse by folder?

2009-09-09 Thread MeSue

Yesterday I used browse by folder because I wanted to play a newly added
album. I found that there was no context menu while browsing by folder
so all I could do was add my folder to the end of the playlist or wipe
my playlist to play it immediately. No way to do play next and leave my
playlist intact, which is what I wanted.

Should I file a bug, or is this intended behavior?

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Do you notice a difference in battery life with new Controller firmware?

2009-09-09 Thread MeSue

Well, it seems my battery just decided to die right about the time the
Controller changes came down. Over the weekend--the LONG weekend--I was
only getting about 10 minutes on it. I received a replacement battery
yesterday and after 2 hours using it, it did not even register a drop in
the battery meter. (It spontaneously rebooted once and asked to send a
crash report to Logitech.) I haven't yet tested to see how long it lasts
off the cradle for a long time.

My Controller normally stays in the cradle about 22 hours a day. I hope
that isn't what led to premature battery death.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Do you notice a difference in battery life with recent Controller UI changes

2009-08-30 Thread MeSue

Does anyone else feel like the battery life of the Controller is
significantly less since the changes with the Controller UI in firmware
r7084 and higher? I have increased the suspend timeout, but I had done
that with the older firmware too. It seems like my battery life is about
half of what it used to be on the old (r5508?) firmware.

I always have the Controller in bed while I read for about 2 hours
every night. Previously, the battery indicator would be at about the
half-way or 1/4 mark when I would turn out the light. Now it's always
red by the time I am ready to turn out the light, and a couple times it
has gone to the "please recharge me" screen before my reading time was
up.

My Controller is about a year old now, so the timing could be
coincidental... that's why I'm asking if anyone else feels the same.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Installing on Windows Home Server

Ah, that explains why so many WHS peeps are running a beta version
without realizing it.

With 7.4 it has to be uninstalled and reinstalled through the WHS
console for every update.

The 7.3 versions don't have a console add-in, and those could be
installed right on top of the previous version. Honestly, it was a lot
faster that way--my WHS console opens so slooowwwly.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Updating Squeezebox server reverts my playlists on some players

2009-08-28 Thread MeSue

When it happened most recently, I had one set of players (synced) with a
MIP-generated playlist, and another player with a different
MIP-generated playlist. The single player kept its playlist, but the
synced players all reverted to the previous day's playlist.

I'll keep an eye out to see if I can figure a pattern.

[SlimDevices: Beta] Updating Squeezebox server reverts my playlists on some players

2009-08-27 Thread MeSue

I've seen this a few times. I upgrade Squeezebox Server and when the new
version starts up, some of my players are showing an older playlist from
the day before--or maybe it's from the last time I updated. I have
"Maintain client playlists" enabled in my settings, but it's not saving
them properly on an upgrade or something.

Anyone else seeing this?

I can't add or delete anything, but I can drag and drop to rearrange
the order--took me a while to figure out how the drag & drop worked,
though.

I don't know what that is.

Yes, that is what I was referring to as well.

I just tried in IE8 and Chrome and it worked for me there as well.

Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] Bugs marked as fixed which aren't

2009-08-26 Thread MeSue

Yep, context menus working again, both from playlist and NP screen. YAY!
I think it requires Squeezebox Server to be updated to r28276 or later
in addition to Controller firmware.

I am still finding little problems here and there, and just filed these
as new bugs:

13691 Some sub-menus don't work when context menu is accessed from the
NP screen (endless spinny)

13692 This track has been loved is shown twice

I just re-did my Boom menus using Firefox and it worked fine. Are you
remembering to hit the "Apply" button down at the bottom of the page
after your changes?

Which this are you referring to? I still can't get a context menu for
the currently playing track, due to bug 13568.

Yes, that's how it is for me, too. We probably need to post about
Biography and Albums Review plug-ins in the 3rd Party Plug-ins forum,
but I wouldn't really expect those to be fixed until 7.4 development
settles down some.

Wow, that's very strange. It has been like night and day since I
switched back. I'm running on an HP EX470 up'd to 2GB, though I doubt
that would be the difference.
