Still need to reinstall plugins and restore Trackstat data. I'm the tiniest bit tempted to try 7.6 without clearing the cache just to see what happens. We don't have any well defined API, so it's hard to say when something is incompatible. 2. You can't rely on SBS versioning because sometimes the second digit in SBS version number means small changes and something it means gigantic changes. 3. We don't have any way to mark if a plugin has been formally tested with a specific SBS version. We really need a "beta" state or "maxTestedVersion" in the plugin repositories to solve that. Currently it's not recommended to set maxVersion on a plugin to 7.5.* unless you know for sure it doesn't work in 7.6, the reason is that it means that it isn't possible for beta testers to help testing the plugin. And if you set maxVersion to 7.6.* it means that non beta testers who are only interested in tested plugins will also get the untested plugin beta version in their setup. What I'd really want is a way to make it possible to configure SBS to explicitly allow untested plugins but by default only allow plugins which have been verified to work with the specific version. Ideally I think you would like to do this on per plugin or possibly per plugin developer because just because someone wants to use the latest Playlist Manager beta version doesn't have to mean they want to get the latest TrackStat beta. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). In what scenarios does people see problem with abort ? What is the behavior, is it just a scanner process that continue running or are we talking about the in-process scanner ? Does the progress bar continue even if you have clicked abort ? I suspect it might take a few seconds for the abort to take effect since there are two processes involved, but if the scanning still continues after 10 seconds it feels like there is a problem somewhere. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow
Okay, I found a few things and managed to get a successful scan on a sub-set of my library. 1) There were remnants of a Firefly Media Server service that kept trying to start on my server, several times per minute. It had thousands of entries in the event viewer. I haven't used this in ages and had no idea it was still even on there. So, it's gone now. 2) I had playlists in MusicIP. I deleted them and reloaded the MIP cache and was able to get a successful scan of ~1200 files. MIP is set to retrieve mixable status only here, too. 3) Abort Scan is definitely not working. 4) Using "cleanup" in the control panel messes up permissions on the cache folder until my server machine is restarted. I stopped using that and just manually emptied the folder to get a clean scan. Now I am trying the scan on my full library of 25,000 files. rbz: two hours was just a guess. I don't really know how long it took the last time (it was so long ago), but I'm pretty certain it was less than 2 hours. I'm not real certain of the new and changed rescan times, either. When I'd add new music I would create a playlist of the new songs and then do rescan playlists and that usually took 10-20 minutes depending on how much music I added. Twonky is disabled. Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow
Sounds like you have a problem unrelated to 7.6. I have an EX490 server & with 16,750 tracks, 7.5 would complete a full scan in approx. 20 mins & 7.6 does it in 15 mins. My EX490 is only a 2.2GHz Celeron so not hugely more powerful than your EX470. As Slate suggested, I would have expected you to be completing a full scan in 7.5 in around 45 mins rather than the two hours you suggest. Have a look at the processes running on the server, sorted by CPU activity in case something is hogging it in the background. When I first got the EX490 & loaded data on it, the supplied Twonky Media was running the CPU at near 100% permanently as it didn't like a couple of video files. -- rbz5416 rbz5416's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12089 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88991 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

Also... There have been a lot of problems with 'Abort scan'. It may or may not be working correctly. After aborting make sure there's no scanner.exe process running. If there is, kill it. If you're having problems running the initial scan, then you may as well also shut down the server and completely clear the cache. A new initial scan will be launched when you restart the server. This was the initial scan that started automatically after installing 7.6. After 9 hours of scanning I stopped it before bed. It had been stuck on that one playlist for several hours. I deleted a bunch of playlists, including some large ones that might have had missing files in them. Then I restarted the scanning, thinking it would finish overnight, but it only got 4 songs. My server does other things at night so that might be what interrupted it that time. So just a few minutes ago I restarted SbS and kicked off another "look for new and changed" scan. Hopefully cleaning up the playlists folder does the trick. I still have some large ones, but they should not have any missing files. There are no shortcuts or symlinks, and the files are all local to the server running SbS. Server is 1.8Ghz single-core, with 2 GB RAM. Scans on 7.5 used to take less than 2 hours for full scan, and 20 minutes or so for new and changed. Third time's the charm... Re: [SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow
Scanning new files isn't exactly a barn burner either. - What are the specs of your server? - Are the files on a local hard drive or located elsewhere on a network share? - Are you using shortcuts/symlinks? - How large are these playlists? -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88991 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta

[SlimDevices: Beta] 7.6 scanning playlists is soooo slow
OMG, it is going to take almost as long to scan playlists as it took to scan the song files! Code: Discovering files (27688 of 27688) Complete 00:22:03 Scanning new files (25383 of 25383) Complete 02:40:54 Discovering playlists (49 of 49) Complete 00:00:12 Scanning new playlists (15 of 31) Running 01:11:21 Scanning my playlists in 7.5 took only about 15-20 minutes. Anyone know how many more steps it does after this? -- MeSue SUE 1 Duet | 2 Booms | 1 Radio | 1 Touch (beta) | 1 SB2 HP MediaSmart EX470 | Squeezebox Server 7.5 | iPod Touch w/ iPeng Find me on 'Last.FM' (http://www.last.fm/user/MeSue) | 'Twitter' (http://twitter.com/suechastain) MeSue's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=985 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88991 ___ beta mailing list beta@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/beta
