[OSL | CCIE_Voice] IPexpert BLS Pricing - Voice

2009-12-23 Thread Randall Crumm
Hi,
I was wondering if the pricing of the BLS from IPexpert comes with rack time?
And how much rack time does one generally need?

Also, are there current deals on their website good because it is year end or
do they always discount their base rate

Thanks,

Hey Randall,
I had the same problem that you have but I was able to resolve the
issue by not only setting the duplex setting in Adobe Reader but in
the settings of the printer as well.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE_Voice Digest, Vol 47, Issue 14

2010-01-05 Thread Randall Crumm
Thanks Mike. I was configuring the duplex setting in the GUI and it was not
working. I tested it with a Word doc and it worked, so it is related to the
.pdf file from IPX or the plug-in as Tech Support said.

Thanks,
Randall

Randall,
I don't remember if it was you that I emailed, but you can configure most
printers (that have an interactive display) and set ALL print jobs to duplex
on the printer. Until completed, everything will obviously print in duplex,
but it addresses you issue.

Hi All,

I need some help for the below issue that am facing.

I have CUCM 7.1.3(a) running on my VoIP network and the issue is ,when i
setup "forward all" for Extn A to Extn B ,the off campus calls are
forwarded to Extn B correctly and the on campus calls are not being
forwarded and it rings the Extn A phone directly.

If anyone of you have faced a simillar kind of problem, please let me know
you thoughts.

Thanks,
Simah.

After further testing I have confirmed that is indeed the IOS version that
is not allowing for the Multicast MOH over a SIP trunk to a PSTN
Termination.

Tested versions:
c2801-adventerprisek9_ivs-mz.124-20.T4.bin = PSTN MOH DOESN"T WORK
c2801-adventerprisek9_ivs-mz.124-22.T.bin = PSTN MOH WORKS

Typology

SIP/SKINNYPHONE -> UCM (Multicast-PUB/MGRL) -> SIPTRUNK -> (HQ-2801 sourced
Multicast MOH) > PRI -> (PSTN-2821) ->PSTNPHONE

If any one know anything to the contrary to my findings please respond as I
am under the assumption that this is the final outcome.
Thank you

I've seen this when all of the auto register DN's in the range have been used.
They need to be deleted once you assign a device a new DN. You need to clean up

Hello guys,

i was doing some testing on Gatekeeper configurations. i manage to register
GW's to the GK without any error. in those GW's i was running CME. So all
the endpoint data is send to GK. and from the GK end we can see the CME end
point details. I can make the calls using the GK with out any errors.

But i have a question regarding a one H323 gateway which is registered with
the CUCM. its have a VOIP dial-peer to the CUCM box. When i issue show
gateway command it shows that its registered to the GK. when i execute show
gatekeeper endpoint i can see the endpoints but i cant see the specific
dial-peer which is directed to the CUCM.
And when i try to dial a endpoint which is registered with the CUCM i cant
make the call. but i can make calls between the GW's which are running the
CME.

Any idea guys ?

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] LAB 3A intital config issues

2010-02-20 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,
I have been racking my brain for a while now and give up.
I loaded the lab 3A initial config and it was missing OSPF config, VLAN and
interace configuration...And I am not sure what else. I reverted the pod twice
and added some config in but I am still not able to register my phone and http
to the router for GUI access.
The problem this is causing me is access from my PC so I can register my phone
on my laptop.

Can someone look into this as why the config is missing so much?
Thanks,
Randall

Hi Guys,

I got stuck at the Teho dialing Question 4.5
I have the CME dial-peer configured & it works fine as the call to HQ/BR1
hits the GK
I also have the translation pattern configured to match the incoming call
same as in the PG
1#39001972XXXFOR 330 with called no xformation
Still the call is not going to the BR1 gw & same the case with HQ calls

The call then dial from BR2 PRI as per the preference.

I can not understand how this should work as I have all parameter
configured.
Can some one guide me through how to go about this.

Thanks.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab 4.4 Question

2010-02-25 Thread Randall Crumm
It looks like the requirement is to have OB call to 212 area code, the gw
should fwd 10 digits(area code+7)
If so then should it be forward digits 10 and not 7?

Am I reading it wrong?

Thanks,
Randall

Hi Cris,

Please try first to globalize the calling number (TP) and have that number
on the phone display and call directories. When you are sure everything is
working as desired, use the cg xform patterns as discussed before to
localize the phone display, after that, you still should see the calling
number's globalized form in the phone directories. Use the 7941s you have
for testing this feature,

Thanks,

Try this,

Cisco 7965 SCCP to SIP Firmware Upgrade
November 17th, 2009 by Mark

Recently I needed to change the firmware on some Cisco 7965 phones from SCCP to
SIP. By far the simplest method is loading the COP file on UCM and letting the
phone upgrade on its own. In my case, this upgrade was being done without
using UCM. The Cisco read-me doc for the SIP firmware covers the COP upgrade
procedure only. It tells you that you may unzip the files on a TFTP server but
there is no procedure which explains what else you must do to load the SIP
firmware.

In this example I am upgrading Cisco 7965 phones to SIP firmware 8.5. Once you
have downloaded the zipped version of the SIP firmware from CCO place the
unzipped files in your TFTP servers root directory. Modify your
XMLDefaults.cnf.xml file so the load information matches your firmware.

SIP45.8-5-3TH1

You should connect your IP phone to LAN where DHCP provides the IP, subnet, and
TFTP server IP. Make sure your phone has DHCP enabled = YES. Your DHCP server
needs to support DHCP Options. TFTP option 66 is required for Cisco phones
running SIP. Option 66 can be used to provide an IP address (recommended) but
can also support a DNS names (assuming you are also providing at least one DNS
server IP via DHCP). Option 150 only supports IP addresses and is required for
SCCP firmware. You can safely configure your DHCP to issue both TFTP options.

Next pull the power from your phone and plug it back in. Hold down # until the
line keys start to blink and press 123456789*0# and your phone should reset.
Your phone should display ?Upgrading? on the screen. If you are using a Unix
based tftp server you can execute tcpdump port 69 and you should see your phone
requesting the files. Your phone should display the progress of the SIP
firmware upgrade and eventually reboot. After it reboots you can press
Settings > Model Information and scroll down until you see the Call Control
Protocol = SIP.

If you performed a factory reset and did not have DHCP enabled then your phone
is most likely stuck at the Upgrading screen. Pressing keys on the phone will
not change the status. At this point you should pull the power, plug it back
in, hold # and then enter the keys 3491672850*# to factory reset the phone.
This allows the phone to clear its flash and still download new firmware. Your
screen is going to be totally black and it will appear as if your phone is not
functional, but the phone is really sending a DHCP request and waiting for an
IP, subnet, and TFTP IP assignment before proceeding to download the firmware.
All of this is happening while the phone?s screen is black. If you want to read
the official word on this, Cisco has a field
notice on their web site.
Monitoring tcpdump on the TFTP server is useful in this case because you know
the phone is doing something. Also, you can view the DHCP bindings to verify yo
ur phone successfully acquired an IP address.

Thanks Roger.
That may have been the case. I just deleted it and started over. It is working

I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks again

Is there an RP pointing directly at the BR1(MGCP) gateway? Check the dependency
records for the gateway if you aren't sure.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] WB 1 LAB 5C General question

2010-05-23 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,
In lab 5c we first start out br1 with 7 digit ani, then it moves to 10 and we
have to add a lot of translation patterns to make the ani 10 digits.

Why can we just adjust the calling transformation pattern to 10 digit? Can we
just change the calling transformation pattern in the real lab?

Thanks,
Randall

Then break say question 5.3 requirement that when calling 911 it should be 7
digits ANI? You'll get zero point there.

The target is to ensure that all the requirements spelt out in the question
are met at the end of all those configurations you can do.

Randall,

The proctor will only mark the exam once you have finished and left the
room.
There will be no progressive verification by the proctor during the exam.

2011-05-15 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,
I have intergrated UCM and UC via SIP trunk. 5600 is my VM pilot.
Now I am having a problem when location CAC is lowered below 1 call.
I have a RL wit the SIP trunk and BR1 GW. I prefixed 1408777 to the br1 RL.
I see the call rerouted to the HQ rtr but the call does not complete.

Any ideas to look for? I have exhausted myself.

Your output indicates that the Gw is registered. Do you mean it is not
functional? That could be wrong router or port.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Time of day routing

2011-05-20 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,

I am working on wb2 lab 1

It is asking to not allow intl calls during non-business hours. The
solution says to add time periods and a time schedule for the
appropriate time you wich. Then is says create another partition and a
new partition pt-tod. The solution then says to create a translation
patter and add the pt-tod.

Here is my question. Can't I just add the pt-tod to the current route
pattern?

RP to CUC SIP Trunk - like the other guy said.

A side note to keep in mind for the Dialplan;
The reason you can't add the RP in the Partition is b/c the Hunt Pilot
you created first already exists in .
HP, RP, TP, Device DNs, as wells as other features that are dialed; Call Park,
Call Pickup Grps, etc, that reside in Partitions are all evaluated together.
So two exact matches can not exist within any given partition.
They can, however, exisit in different partitions.  If this is the case, and
they are both in the same CSS, the tie breaker will be ordering within in the
CSS.

I was messing around with Called party transformations today on MGCP gateways
and I noticed some different behavior than I thought would happen.  If I use
Called Party Transformation for manipulating digits and RP for the display of
the phone, the RP settings change the phone display while the phone is ringing,
but not when the call is connected.

Is that expected behavior?

e.g. if using TEHO over a G729 region, device mobility etc.

This in turn could have an impact when being asked to exhaust
remaining DSPs for xcoder (e.g. Vol2 Lab2 Q5.1) - I thought we would
have 9 xcoder sessions based on:

2 x DSPs = 480MIPs - (3 x 40) 120MIPS (for G729r8 voice
termination) = 360MIPs (9 sessions for G729r8 xcoder).

But the DSG calculates 12 xcoder sessions based on:

2 x DSPs= 480MIPS - (3 x 15) 45MIPS (for voice termination) =
435MIPs (14 session for G729ar8)

Or am I being a bit thick?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Help

2011-05-27 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,

I had an issue when our HQ moved. The PRI's were sourced from another
switch on the carrier's side so we had to review the settings. The
problem I had was I had to do isdn map address for international calls
and map them to natl calls.

The bottom line here is you need to review everything if getting new
service with any telco.

Right, Vik always seems to hit the mark, I had found this very document
too but doubted myself too much.

It is amazing that the carrier could not match the settings on their old
T1 with the new one. This was just supposed to be a move from 10 b
channels to 23 b channels but everything went wrong. They went from 4
digits to 10, they said it was 23 channels when they sent 12, then
insisted I was wrong. They changed the incoming caller ID method, the
delivered 11 channels as metro only so since this was an overlay space
with 2 area codes and we were doing decending channel selection, local
calls wanted the customer to dial 1 to complete. So clearly they did
not deliver the same data/voice PRI as they had previously but they
continue to say they did and it is our fault.

Again thanks to everyone who helped on this.

The link also indicates that, in some instances, you will have to take
things further. You may have to play around with the regions so that
calls
from video enabled phones are forced to "none" for video bandwidth when
placing calls via the H323 gateway.

If this has been resolved- apologies for the redundant info.

The bearer capability for the failed call is different.

   Bearer Capability i = 0x8890
   Standard = CCITT
   Transfer Capability = Unrestricted Digital

0x8890 is 64k data call.

Try this command:

SJC-RTR(config)#voice-port 0/0/0:23
SJC-RTR(config-voiceport)#bearer-cap speech

Same here.  Shouldn't have to worry about BS like that.  Thanks IPexpert for
only allowing to see docs when your computer is connected to the internet.  And
you don't print more than once.  And you use a password everytime you open it.
When you pay 600$ for a book, you should be able to read it.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] SRST mode auto-provision

2011-05-29 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,
Just wondering if it should make a difference if I am running a HW VPN because
my phones will not register in SRST mode.
I tried several ways to put br1 rtr in srst no luck.

I've even manually configured the rtr with ephones and ephone-dn's

Everything looks configured correctly on CUCM too.

snipit..

 srst mode auto-provision all
 max-ephones 3
 max-dn 3
 ip source-address 10.10.110.2 port 2000

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] Gatekeeper question--RC

2011-05-30 Thread Randall Crumm

Thanks for all the answers.

I did search the services for 1720 and entered gk-trunk.

I'm working on WB2 lab 2 and the output from the PG shows port 1720 and my
output shows 40081 and 33277 respectively below.

The questions in the WB has output and says the port should show 1720 no 40081
and 33277. This is what I am trying to do. The PG did not specify anything
specific as well.

Should I not worry about this?

type the trunk name.

Hi Roger,
I thought of restarting the cm service, that didn't work. I reset the trunk
(did not work), then shut/no shut the GK and it worked.

THANKS!!!

That should do it. If they do not show the requested port after adding the
trunk name to the service parameter I would try resetting the trunk; resetting
CCM service, gatekeeper shut/no shut etc.

Whoops. I was doing fine up until that last cut and paste error. :)

Bill’s absolutely correct; that last line should have read
“Top down” = *ascending* = channel 1 to 23.

ascending is 1-23, just did this at a customer so I know that is right and
confirmed with show isdn q931
descending is 23-1 as is the default.

“Ascending” and “descending” refer to *numerically* ascending or descending –
so “ascending” numerically (from channel 1 to channel N) means going “top down”
on the ladder.
Likewise, “descending” numerically (the default; from channel N down to channel
1) means going “bottom up” on the ladder.

So Randall, your statement is incorrect. “Top down” = descending = channel 1 to
23.

Just my little mnemonic. YMMV :)

You can configure the router to select the first available B channel in
ascending order (channel B1) or descending order (channel B23 ).  By default,
the router will select outgoing calls in descending order.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] CME diap-peer question

2011-06-02 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,
I have a question.
Say I have a CME and have a dial-peer for intl calls that goies out local GW
I also need two dial-peers(1 backupo) to route calls through Gatekeeper@HQ, 1st
choice, or through the branch 1 gw as a backup.

I get calls to work through the GK but when it is down my calls go through
dial-peer 1 instead of dial-peer 3

My question is how is how do make sure the call goes though dial-peer 3 and not
dial-peer 1

(leaving some info out)

dial-peer voice 1 pots - local gw
dest-pattern 900T
prefix 00

dial-peer voice 2 voip
dest-patt9001212T
session target ras

dial-peer voice 3 voip

If you’re 100% sure the configuration of all the elements is correct, sometimes
a complete restart of the CUPS server is required before this works.  For me it
was hit or miss as to whether I needed to restart the entire server, or just
the Presence Engine component.  But, if I ever had a problem seeing the status
when I knew the configuration was correct, a reboot of the box fixed it.  Of
course, I had to wait the 10-15 minutes before the server was fully up and
running once again. J

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] called number display ( TO:...) on MGCP GW

Hi Experts,

I need to make it appear on the calling phone on a CUCM  something different
than the digits actually going through an MGCP gateway.

Let's say for example I want to call PSTN phone 912123942123 ,making appear
12123942123 on my phone while the digits 3942123 go through the gateway.

As far as I had understood the place to do this was the digit manipulation on
the Route Pattern with something like predot with RP 9.1212392123 , while
actually manipulating the transmitted digits on RL or called party
transformation pattern.

But I got these two issues:

-If I change the connected line presentation on the RP from default to allowed
, the RP manipulation is ignored and I don't get on the phone what needed.

-If I route the call passing through a Translation Pattern and then the RP (
for example globalizing to +12123942123 with TP and then manipulating the TO:
on the RP) , again RP manipulation ignored.
What it's strange it's that if on the TP I don't prefix a + but any other digit
and change the patterns accordingly all works

Any idea ? Any known bug for that ?

Thanks for any help.

Just do:

zone prefix HQ 5... gw-priority 0 BR2-RTR
zone prefix HQ 1... gw-priority 0 BR2-RTR

Or:
zone prefix HQ 5... gw-default-priority 0
zone prefix HQ 1... gw-default-priority 0

At least it is not pointing to any GW now, so I don't see it as a problem.
Perhaps try shut/no shut on GK?

I heard the rumor that even if you specify G.711 as intra-region codec, you'll
have to disable G.722 in Enterprise Parameters and Service Parameters.
Otherwise, G.722 will be chosen.

I tested it in the lab.  That was not the case.  If I explicitly specified
G.711 as intra-region codec, the phones will always use G.711.

Do we still need to disable G.722?

Thanks!

Can anyone give suggestion on how to meet the requirement of "Phones
should work same as it is registered with CUCM"?

It's a very broad topic since there are so many features on CUCM.

Here's what I can think of:

1) Basic call routing (phone to phone, intra and inter sites, PSTN
calls) both outgoing and incoming.

2) Secondary dial tone

3) Voicemail (voicemail button, voicemail pilot number, CFwd Busy, CFwd
No answer)

4) multi-channel support, hold, conference.

5) Do we need to care about corporate directory? How about calling
names in SRST mode?

Thanks!

able to get the IP address from the CUCM (DHCP) server., Not sure what
exactly to check for.

Hi,

I faced a similar issue couple of days back.. I had configured the DHCP
in my CUCM. The problem was the in the DHCP IP Schema, 1 digit went
wrong, so nothing was registering. it took me nearly 2 days to figure
this out..

take a closer look and you might figure out something.

If this doesnt work, try removing the DHCP from the CUCM and put them in
the router/switch.. while doing this dont forget the to use the option
150..

If the previous candidate using your lab spot changed the protocol as
requested, let's say his lab had SIP and now yours is SCCP; there is
nothing you can do to avoid this. It is not necessarily a waste of time;
unless you keep staring at the phones LOL

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] WB 2 Lab 8 4.3 Live recored

2011-09-09 Thread Randall Crumm
HI,
I hope someone can help me. I am not sure I am testing this correctly (maybe I
am reading too much into the question).

I setup live record and it works internally.

I add an alternative extension to a VM box, (2123942123) line 2 PSTN.
1. If I dial 394-5610, it records the conversation and leaves the VM in x5002
VMB,  but I am not talking to anyone.

2. If I dial 394-5002, put him on hold and dial 394-5610, I get a message,
Hello Cisco Unity messaging system, from a touchtone telephone...

I followed the DSG.

Am I doing something wrong? Maybe this is really what the question is asking. I
think I should be able to do test 2

Thanks for the help

Randall,

Thanks for your reply with how to access digit manipulation in RG/RL. I might
not

But my problem is PRE DOT DDI is not available as a selectable option in RG/RL.
Closest match is NANP: PRE DOT DDI ( I am not sure is it ok for non US dial
plans)

But in Route Pattern NANP:PRE DOT & PRE DOT are available as two seperate
options to be selected.

I hope you will understand my problem.

this has been solved - win 7 doesnt support multiple ip blues instances and it
is official written on their website.

I downloaded a very light Win XP image (250mb) from my company and had a new
vmware machine where I`ll do all kinds of IE voice stuff such as phoneview /
ipblue etc..

way to go! so bad win 7 doesnt to support but at the end .. the xp is running
much more smooth in vmware fusion.

No it doesnt. I put the /d at the end of the shortcut, but just one instance

HI,
I am referring to the new labs in this
link, https://www.ipexpert.com/Cisco/CCIE/Voice/Handbook. If you are not aware
of these you should add Wayne Lawson on facebook to find out about new products
and specials.

If you have been to boot-camp, you know the 2ND lab especially, had some new
tasks and troubleshooting. Based on my personal CCIE experience I think this
will be very helpful. According to Vik, these will be more up to date.

FYI,I live in the Bay Area in California.

HTH,
Let me know you if you are interested in a group-study.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] QoS for Frame Relay

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] QoS for Frame Relay

hello, everyone.

I have several questions about the QoS:

1) As I know, the Frame Relay Fragment Size must be always calculated based on
the Interfaces Access Rate? Am I right? And when using the Auto QoS on Frame
Relay Subinteface, it will calculate the Framgent Size based on the "bandwidth"
command under the Subinterface, and then we have to manually correct the
Fragment Size, so that it will be based on the Access Rate and not on the
Bandwidth of an interface, am I right?

2) When configuring the CUCM RSVP CAC, we have to configure the "ip
rsvp bandwidth" command under the Frame Relay DLCI interface, and also
configure the RSVP MTPs on the Routers.
Each G729 call for RSVP is allocating 40 kbps, and for G711 96 kbps.
But now look, I have an issue with the "ip rsvp bandwidth" command:

I have configured the "ip rsvp bandwidth 40" under the Frame Relay DLCI
(Subinterface), so that I have to have only 1 G729 call, and all other calls
should be rejected (Not reserved).
But my routers are still reserving more and more bandwidth for subsequent
calls. RSVP is not rejecting calls, even if I configure the "ip rsvp bandwidth
10" command, the calls are still traversing and are not rejected.

I have also added the following command:

ip rsvp policy preempt

interface Serial0/3/0.1 point-to-point
 frame-relay interface-dlci 101
  ip rsvp bandwidth 40
 ip rsvp data-packet classification none
 ip rsvp resource-provider none

But still not succes, even 5 G729 calls are reserved and not rejected. I cannot
understand why is it so? The debugs of RSVP does not show anything interesing,
they are just saying that the RSVP reservation has been succesfull for each
call.
Maybe it is an IOS BUG?

The answer is in this document.

instructions in that doc.

I created the SCDHCP doc in notepad.  Uploaded it to CUCM, then TFTPed it to my
