Verity file indexing

2003-03-11 Thread Kay Smoljak
If you specify make this document xhtml compliant, it does. Sorry, I should have
said, Dreamweaver puts it in my default when creating an xhtml file. It's the first
thing I normally take out because it puts IE6 into quirks mode, but for this site we
wanted to use a DHTML menu that needed quirks mode to work properly so I put it back.
Big mistake - I put an empty comment in there to get the same effect.

Verity file indexing

2003-03-11 Thread Kay Smoljak
Sorry about the previous message - I'm using the archives and I forgot to quote the
previous message.

The .cfm files had an xml prolog - ?xml version=1.0

Yes, that prolog is Part of what makes an xml document valid.
I dont think DWMX puts that in any file, unless you tell it
 to create an xml file.

Joe,

RE: Macromedia DONT help me now. so where do i turn now?

2003-03-11 Thread Michael Kear
I'm starting to think that perhaps the problem might lie in the Windows.
Does anyone know if there is a self-repair kind of thing in WinXPPRo?
If I do a reinstall, will it safely install with all my tweaks and
setting or will it take me all the way back to the initial installation
again and I'll have to reinstall all my apps again?

I'm just thinking along the lines that there may be something wrong
with the computer, maybe a corrupted nic driver, or a somehow broken
IIS install...I've seen both of those cause many strange problems. The
Metabase can get corrupted, but IIS will still function to a point,
and corrupted nic drivers can cause all sorts of odd things to happen.

I've installed MX on 3 machines, some old, some new, and had problems,
but nothing like what you are seeing, and haven't seen people
mentioning this kind of problem, so the problem would seem to be with
your setup somewhere.Trying to install on another system would at
least give concrete proof that the problem is with the computer if it
succeeds. At which point I'd say it's time for a Windows reinstall, or
at least download a copy of Metaedit to make sure your IIS metabase
isn't corrupt, and reinstall the nic drivers.

Forgive me if I'm off base, I've followed the threads but there have
been quite a few and I may have missed some relevant point.

Lockdown CFMX

2003-03-11 Thread Shahzad.Butt
Hi

Does someone know how to lock down Coldfusion Server? Idea is that we
are going to be on internet through https. Now we need to secure our
server. We'd already locked down IIS etc, only bit left is to secure
Coldfusion Server. What sort of vulnerabilities we can have through our
CFMX server.

2003-03-11 Thread Matthew Walker
You could try the files and settings transfer wizard - it won't install your
apps but it will keep your basic settings. You could then try installing IIS
etc first - before running the wizard the second time. You need to leave the
wizard running overnight to save your settings initially.

OT: Scripting Internet Explorer

2003-03-11 Thread Aidan Whitehall
I'm being cheeky and reposting this as it didn't receive any replies
last time, but I find it hard to believe nobody has any ideas on
automating IE. If not, I'll find an IE newsgroup. Thanks.

Does anyone know how to script IE to open a web page, save it locally as
a .mht file and then repeat that for, say, 100 other pages? The URLs
will be almost identical, the only difference being one parameter in the
query string.

I read an earlier message saying that you could do something like this
with Windows Script Host, but I've never played with it. Would that be
the right approach?

And before someone suggests cfhttp, this is something that (I think)
needs to be done client-side, as we specifically want to save 100's of
web pages as .mht files (compressed HTML), not as vanilla .html.

In my experience, the only solid way to do it is to backup whatever data
settings you can, make sure you have all the hardware
drivers/application software disks you need, then reformat the drive and
do a fresh resinstall of everything and restore your data. I'm not a
big fan of trying to correct mysterious potential windows problems with
reinstalling windows over top itself rarely does that work

Quite honestly this is usually a good thing every couple years anyway...
In addition this may be a good exercise in preparing for the possibility
of a serious crash. Windows seems to self corrupt over time or get
corrupted thru various software installs.

And yes... this is a real pain maybe shouldn't be necessary, but it's
the only way to know for sure that windows xp is not the problem (I

Every couple of years? Hell, I do that every couple of months... Win98
was every few weeks. Although I guess that being involved with so many
beta programs doesn't do much for the stability of my system :)

The other thing that you could do (sorry Mike, no good to you now) is
use
something like Ghost to create a complete image of your base fresh
install
(Windows and essential programs), so if anything wierd happens to your
Windows (and it will) you have a clean working copy to start over with.

I'm sure there is more, but here is a list to start. Make sure you:
- run CF as a normal user
- disable RDS
- disable unneeded tags with security implications (cfexecute etc.)
- disable unneeded services (do you need ODBC?)
- disable direct conection through the built-in webserver
- run only trusted code
- do not install example apps or documentation
- verify the inaccessibility of the WEB-INF directory

was every few weeks.

Re: Creating custom tag?

2003-03-11 Thread Randell B Adkins
Sure.

You can call the CustomTag such as CF_MyTag or using CFModule:

CustomTag:
CF_MyTag Text=Whatever you want to say bxheight=100 bxwidth=200

CFMODULE TEMPLATE=../CustomTags/MyTag.cfm TEXT=Whatever you want to
say BXHEIGHT=100 BEWIDTH=200

Just remember now in your custom tag that the values of TEXT, BXHEIGHT
and BXWIDTH should be
referenced in the ATTRIBUTE Scope:
ATTRIBUTE.TEXT
ATTRIBUTE.BXHEIGHT
ATTRIBUTE.BXWIDTH

The good thing about CFModule is the tag can reside anywhere.
Using the CF_MyTag approach, the tag must be in the custom tags
directory
specified in CF Administator.

Hi,

I have a box that I created that appears multiple times in my template.
The only thing that gets modified is the text and the width in pixels
based on ths ize on my input box.

Is it possible to create a custom tag where I can enter in only the
text and width measurements? For examle:

dialog text=Date Created width=156
input

/dialog

The above would draw a box around the input tags and insert the text
appropriately. Below is the code I current;y use.

RE: Macromedia DONT help me now. so where do i turn now?

2003-03-11 Thread Jaye Morris - jayeZERO.com
If you have been fooling around with this since Friday, you are
investing more time that you had initially planned. You might better
use your time rebuilding the machine. Just using it for CF and putting
the IDE on it should only take at max 3-4 hours. In that way you would
know that your machine is right and/or potentially isolate problems.
During your windows installation you would not even have to install IIS,
because it has it's own internal server.

Subject: Macromedia DONT help me now. so where do i turn now?

AMAZING

Regular readers to this list will be aware that I have been wrestling
with installing CFMX since last Friday to no avail. I decided to see
if Macromedia would back me up as a reseller and developer, and I called
their support line.

I got connected to their Manilla office and Pauline's response was that
I couldn't even talk to a support person unless I paid US$500.

IN other words, I have downloaded the CFMX, it doesn't install
correctly, for whatever reason, I can't make it work, no one else can
either apparently, and Macromedia aren't going to try unless I cough up
nearly 2/3 of the cost of a server. That's to evalutate it!!!

I guess I'm just not meant to be in the MX world.

Yes just considering that the dialog_start would be
the beginning part of your tabel then your inputs are
within that table elements itself.

Then you will need to close your tables thus I am
assuming that is the reason for the dialog_end

You can call the CustomTag such as CF_MyTag or using CFModule:

CustomTag:

CFMODULE TEMPLATE=../CustomTags/MyTag.cfm TEXT=Whatever you want
   to
say BXHEIGHT=100 BEWIDTH=200

Just remember now in your custom tag that the values of TEXT,
   BXHEIGHT
and BXWIDTH should be
referenced in the ATTRIBUTE Scope:
ATTRIBUTE.TEXT
ATTRIBUTE.BXHEIGHT
ATTRIBUTE.BXWIDTH

The good thing about CFModule is the tag can reside anywhere.
Using the CF_MyTag approach, the tag must be in the custom tags
directory
specified in CF Administator.

RE: FoxPro databases: does CF use indexes?

2003-03-11 Thread Bill Grover
CF will access FoxPro efficiently, we do it all day every day.

If you submit a poorly written query it will perform poorly, but if you
write an optimized query it will fly. For example, we have an inventory
table with an index defined as UPPER(stockno). I had a programmer write a
query on his page for WHERE stockno = '#form.stockno#'. It would take
FOREVER to run. When I looked at it and realized it wasn't using the index
and had him change it to WHERE UPPER(stockno) = '#form.stockno#' the
results were instant. In fact you could take his original query straight
out of CF and execute it in FoxPro and while it was every bit as slow.

As others have said, all CF does is pass the query off to the FoxPro ODBC
driver you have installed on your server. It's up to that driver to insure
the performance.

You should not be able to do this unless you are in a secure, signed,
scripting environment. Period.

What you are asking invades the user's privacy. When you close the parent,
you lose all their page history information -- this is why the confirmation
message appears. The confirmation message will always appear if you
programmatically try to close a window that the user opened.

I am a bit shocked that the code you give doesn't launch a confirmation

Yes, thanks Dave, and the others who are giving me the benefit of their
experience in these things. Dave I did see your advice about
rebuilding the system. I took so long to build it the first time - only
a couple of months ago, that I really want to exhaust all the other
possibilities first. That's a BIG job for me - not really up to speed
on XPPro things. However I'm fast running out of other things to try.

This machine isn't just used for my web development. I have a really
tiny business - just me - this machine does a multitude of jobs for me,

Thanks for your suggestions, and thanks for giving a damn.

a clean install is the best way to go, as I suggested too you a few days
ago.
but xp also has a repair feature to where it goes over your install and
fixes its files but I'm not sure I'd trust that.

I'm starting to think that perhaps the problem might lie in the
Windows.
Does anyone know if there is a self-repair kind of thing in WinXPPRo?
If I do a reinstall, will it safely install with all my tweaks and
setting or will it take me all the way back to the initial
installation
again and I'll have to reinstall all my apps again?

Custom Tag Question

2003-03-11 Thread John Stanley
I am creating a custom tag that will display the results of a query. I know
there are already some out there, but I wanna do it myself.

I have an attribute called queryname that i refer to in the call of the
custom tag.

cf_mytag queryname=get_users

inside the custom tag i refer to it as attributes.queryname as in the
following

cfoutput query=#attributes.queryname#
blah blah
/cfoutput

I keep getting the following error.

Attribute validation error for tag cfoutput.
The value of the attribute query, which is currently get_users, is
invalid.

The error occurred in C:\CFusionMX\CustomTags\tabledata.cfm: line 20

18 :th/thnbsp;/th
19 : /tr
20 :cfoutput query=#attributes.queryname#

I have called the custom tag after the query. Does the custom tag still
execute first? The custom tag appears before the query in debugging.

If so what is a competent work around for this problem.?

RE: Custom Tag Question

2003-03-11 Thread Raymond Camden
That is because you did not pass the query to the custom tag, but the
name of the query. You can fix this two ways.

1) In your custom tag, do cfoutput
query=caller.#attributes.queryname#, however, in general, it's not
good practice to refer to variables outside the custom tag.

2) Pass the actual query
cf_mytag query=#get_users#

Then your cfquery would be

cfoutput query=attributes.query (Notice, no # marks.)

Your custom tags need to use Attributes.Foo instead of Foo. For example,
change bxwidth to attributes.bxwidth.

You can call the CustomTag such as CF_MyTag or using CFModule:

 CustomTag:
 CF_MyTag Text=Whatever you want to say bxheight=100
 bxwidth=200

 CFMODULE TEMPLATE=../CustomTags/MyTag.cfm
 TEXT=Whatever you
 want
to
 say BXHEIGHT=100 BEWIDTH=200

Just remember now in your custom tag that the values of TEXT,
BXHEIGHT
 and BXWIDTH should be
 referenced in the ATTRIBUTE Scope:
 ATTRIBUTE.TEXT
 ATTRIBUTE.BXHEIGHT
 ATTRIBUTE.BXWIDTH

The good thing about CFModule is the tag can reside anywhere.
Using the CF_MyTag approach, the tag must be in the
 custom tags
 directory specified in CF Administator.

Sorting XML without XSLT (Running it brain meltdown)

2003-03-11 Thread Michael J. Sammut
Hi again,
I am reposting again in case anyone can elaborate on a solution. I am running in to
brain meltdown and simple cannot figure out how to manipulate this data.

I am storing XML in a SQL database and using
GetContent.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].contentdata.XmlChildren[1].date.XmlText as
my retrieval method. Everything is working fine however, in some cases I can not use
XSLT because of some formatting limitations (actually client peculiarities).

Can anyone lend some help in explaining how I may sort this without XSLT?

My page looks like this so far:

 table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 width=100%
 cfloop query=getcontent
 cfif
GetContent.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].contentdata.XmlChildren[1].live.XmlText eq
yes OR url.status eq live
  tr
  td valign=top
nowrap#DateFormat(XmlUnFormat(GetContent.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].contentdata.XmlChildren[1].date.XmlText),
 ' DD, ')#/td
  td valign=topa
href=/index.cfm/page/#getcontent.label#.htm#Ucase(XmlUnFormat(GetContent.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].contentdata.XmlChildren[1].common.label.XmlText))#/abrnbsp;br/td
 /tr
 /cfif
 /cfloop
 /table

It is working dandy, however, is there anyway I can sort this stuff (alpha, date,
etc?) without XSLT?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Set at least on deduging IP (127.0.0.1 is good), and ensure debugging is off.

session timeout clarification

2003-03-11 Thread Kelly Tetterton
Folks --

a colleague of mine asked me to help him with some changes to the way he was treating
his session variables, but in doing so, I've run into something of a misunderstanding
of how I *thought* session variables worked. Specifically, in the test code below, I
would expect that

1) when you came to index.cfm (the home page of the site), you would get fresh session
info;

2) when the session timed out, you would automatically get fresh cfid/cftoken info;

3) when pasting a url with *old* cfid/cftoken session info, you would automatically be
delivered new cfid/cftoken session info

4) after a session times out, when coming to the home page again, you'd get fresh
session info.

#1 and #4 are definitely happening, but #2 and #3 are definitely NOT happening. (And
yes, I also pushed down the max default timeouts in my cf admin to match the low
timeouts in the test code below.) Instead, the pages happily accept the old, clearly
expired, cfid/cftoken session combos.

So,

-- are my expectations wrong?
-- or am I missing something that I should be doing in the code?
-- or both, perhaps?

I'm willing to accept any or all at this point -- just hoping that someone can point
me in the right direction.

Re: Macromedia DONT help me now. so where do i turn now?

2003-03-11 Thread Dave Lyons
believe me I know how you feel!
I have gone through it many times! haha
but in the end its a good habit to do.
I run several companies off of my comp, so the rebuilding used to takes
several days, I have gotten it down to a few hours now.

heres what i do
go get a stack of cdr's
then I make a folder on my desk top and start copying the files i need into
the folder. I make special note of coping the WHOLE Inetpub files as well so
I dont lose any of my sites and my db folder.
all the other stuff I have is pretty easy to find and copy to the folder.
the biggest problems I have are (1) my emails. I use outlook express or
outlook. I recent found a program that makes a real nice back up of them and
saving them all and restoring are a breeze. and (2) losing my settings in
DWMX. Use this free tool to save exactly how you have DWMX set up.
http://www.joexx.de/DW-Exporter/download_en.php
AWESOME tool!! and free too.
then start burning that file to disks.

The other thing i do is I went to a computer store and asked if I could have
an extra copy of the 2 disks that come with a new hard drive. They are nice
cause you just put them in and its completely sets up your hard drive ready
for the install. Dont have to debug fdisk when you use them. Most people
will just give you them for free.

then do your install and put on IIS and them studio or DWMX whatever you
have then CFMX . Then take your disk that has your saved Inetpub on it and
copy it over the existing one. THEN BE SURE TO SET YOU FILE PERMISSIONS FOR
SHARING
Then I install the http://www.joexx.de/DW-Exporter/download_en.php and copy
the back up to my documents and import the settings back into dreamweaver
and then give it a try. Almost always runs like a charm. That way you have
it up and working before anything else and it shouldnt have any conflicts
the rest of the way.

One thing i have noticed is that a lot of people have trouble with DW but it
has rarely been because DWMX was the problem. Most always its xp pro, IIS or
some 3rd party server like apache.
Sometimes I have to install and reinstall IIS a few times. But my problem
lies with it having troubles running ASP pages not Coldfusion. I actually
install CFMX to run on IIS, instead of standalone. And the funny thing is
that a lot of times the asp pages wont run but the coldfusion ones always
do.

hope it helps and you get back in the swing!

dave

Yes, thanks Dave, and the others who are giving me the benefit of their
experience in these things. Dave I did see your advice about
rebuilding the system. I took so long to build it the first time - only
a couple of months ago, that I really want to exhaust all the other
possibilities first. That's a BIG job for me - not really up to speed
on XPPro things. However I'm fast running out of other things to try.

This machine isn't just used for my web development. I have a really
tiny business - just me - this machine does a multitude of jobs for me,
my business, my family etc. Rebuilding it isn't a trivial task, but as
I said, there aren't many other possibilities left to try.

Thanks for your suggestions, and thanks for giving a damn.

Looks like you need to put # around the variable that you are passing to the

Subject: Custom Tag Question

I am creating a custom tag that will display the results of a query. I
know
there are already some out there, but I wanna do it myself.

I have an attribute called queryname that i refer to in the call of the
 custom tag.

 cf_mytag queryname=get_users

inside the custom tag i refer to it as attributes.queryname as in the
 following

 cfoutput query=#attributes.queryname#
 blah blah
 /cfoutput

I keep getting the following error.

Attribute validation error for tag cfoutput.
The value of the attribute query, which is currently get_users, is
 invalid.

The error occurred in C:\CFusionMX\CustomTags\tabledata.cfm: line 20

 18 : th/thnbsp;/th
 19 : /tr
 20 : cfoutput query=#attributes.queryname#

I have called the custom tag after the query. Does the custom tag still
execute first? The custom tag appears before the query in debugging.

If so what is a competent work around for this problem.?

Subject: cfgrid issues

Hey All:

Having some issues with cfgrid.

I inherited this application that uses cfgrid to allow certain staff members
to update a db table directly.

This was built on CF 4.5, and we're now on 5.0 (we have been for around 6
months now). I don't know if it just broke now (which would be weird), or
if I just wasn't made aware of it since our upgrade.

In any event, I'm getting an error on the form's action page. I'm
outputting a #cfcatch.message#, and getting 'Grid crossref not found'
(crossref being the name of the grid on the form page).

A cfdump var=#form# shows a field named crossref, but no value in it (I
do have the enablecab=yes attribute in the cfform). I also just replaced
the cfjava2.jar file in webroot\cfide\classes with one that I downloaded
from MM's site (as noted in technote 17998 located at
http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/tn17998.htm).

Still, no success.

I have very little experience with cfform and the java form controls, so I'm
not sure where to even begin with troubleshooting/debugging this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,
Charlie

2003-03-11 Thread Thomas Chiverton
On Tuesday 11 Mar 2003 14:39 pm, Michael J. Sammut wrote:
Can anyone lend some help in explaining how I may sort this without XSLT?

Create a list of all the primary key id's of the record set, sorted by
whatever you need, then loop over that list and pull out the records with it.

i.e.
var listSorted=;
output records
insertSort(this.id);

loop over listSorted
output record given by id

The tricky bit is insertSort() - you'll need to write something to add the
current id to listSorted, with it's locationbased on the value of something
else in the record.
A structure like
sorted[].id
sorted[].value
may make this easier.

RE: Macromedia DONT help me now. so where do i turn now?

2003-03-11 Thread Josh Remus
On that line (which has nothing to do with your problem). On a couple of
our multi-purpose machines (sometimes used as dev servers, sometimes used as
testing machines, etc) we have hard-drive drawers installed, and we've
bought the cheapest, smallest drives we could find. The drawer hardware is
super cheap, and that way I can slide in the XP Pro dev disk and work on
that, and if I need to do some testing on NT 4 workstation, I just swap the
drive and turn it on.

Considering I've never seen another company utilize these drawers, it must
not be very widespread, but it's a great saver when we have a limited number
of machines that we are allowed to play with.

Uninstall the example apps and doc's (cfdocs dir).
Limit acces to the CFIDE/administrator dir (CFIDE needs to be

Set at least on deduging IP (127.0.0.1 is good), and ensure

RE: Javascript Signed Scripting Re: window.close question?

2003-03-11 Thread Joshua Miller
I'll re-post this because it was about 4am when I posted and you may
have missed this. You CAN do this without a signed script:

Just change the window opener's reference to TOP and then you can close
it.

script window.open('popup.html','popWin','width=300,height=300');
window.opener=top;
window.close();
/script

This doesn't work on IE5 or Netscape 4.7x but it works on all other
IE/NS variations.

I saw this link yesterday while looking for some ActionScript reference.

You should not be able to do this unless you are in a secure, signed,

What you are asking invades the user's privacy. When you close the
parent, you lose all their page history information -- this is why the

confirmation message appears. The confirmation message will always
appear if you programmatically try to close a window that the user

I am a bit shocked that the code you give doesn't launch a

 Thx,
 Charlie

RE: cfgrid issues

2003-03-11 Thread Douglas.Knudsen
LOL!

I would suggest rolling your own 'grid'. That's what we did. CFGRID is quirky and
depends on a certain JRE versiona real PITA actually. Plus, every customer that
sees it wants it to do more than it can. So we wrote an HTML version. It isn't hard
really, but doesn't have client-side sorting, but you can add that via something like
this
http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml/tablesort/demo.html
http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml/grid/intro.html

The VERY basic idea is dynamically naming your form controls
input type=text name=foo_n where n is 1 to n rows.

easier). There is a delicate balance between backing up as many files
as possible to make the restoration as easy as possible, but also
making sure you avoid any of the files that you suspect might be
corrupt and the cause of the problems you are having. I recently had a
hard drive failure with my Mac, and after spending an entire weekend
getting up and running again, I bought a 100GB firewire drive, which
will make life much easier should this ever occur again.

Re: Dreamweaver changing code on me

2003-03-11 Thread Dave Carabetta
if i was you i'd consider uninstalling and reinstalling dwmx.
check out this link
http://www.joexx.de/DW-Exporter/download_en.php

that will make it a breeze i think it will cure your woes

I took your advice and now things looke to be Kosher. The one thing I have
not done yet is go in and play with creating my own Keyboard Shortcuts
because I think that's where things went bad last time. But for anybody who
might run in to this problem, at the very least this is what I did to get
working again:

1. Ran the DW-Exporter utility recommeded (great tool!)
2. Add/Remove Programs - Uninstall DWMX
3. Ran RegEdit to look for lingering Dreamweaver keys (only found some in
the file associations options)
4. Re-booted for posterity!
5. Ran Installer for DW 6.0
6. Opened DWMX to see if problems were still present (they weren't)
7. Close DWMX and installed 6.1 updater
8. Re-imported backed-up Sites via DW-Exporter tool (though not the config
files)
9. Opened DWMX and all was well

As I said, I'm thinking that things went south when I went o make copies of
Keyboard Shortcuts to set up my own preferences. I'm gonna wait to test that
part till later. But those steps should at least get you a fully-function
product. I'll let you know how the Shortcuts part goes later on.

Regards,
Dave.

RE: Sorting XML without XSLT (Running it brain meltdown)

2003-03-11 Thread Dan G. Switzer, II
Michael,

Remember, XSLT doesn't just mean XML to XHTML--you could use XSLT to
retransform the XML packet into a sorted XML packet and then run your CF
logic on the new sorted packet.

I believe I've seen a solution posted here:
http://www.dpawson.co.uk/xsl/sect2/sect21.html

If not, you should be able to piece one together based upon that information
found on the site. There's a ton of answers to common XSLT
dilemmas/questions.

Subject: Sorting XML without XSLT (Running it brain meltdown)

 Hi again,
I am reposting again in case anyone can elaborate on a solution. I am
running in to brain meltdown and simple cannot figure out how to
 manipulate this data.

I am storing XML in a SQL database and using
 GetContent.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].contentdata.XmlChildren[1].date.
XmlText as my retrieval method. Everything is working fine however, in
some cases I can not use XSLT because of some formatting limitations
 (actually client peculiarities).

Can anyone lend some help in explaining how I may sort this without XSLT?

My page looks like this so far:

  table cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 width=100%
  cfloop query=getcontent
  cfif
 GetContent.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].contentdata.XmlChildren[1].live.
XmlText eq yes OR url.status eq live
   tr
   td valign=top
 nowrap#DateFormat(XmlUnFormat(GetContent.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].c
 ontentdata.XmlChildren[1].date.XmlText), ' DD, ')#/td
   td valign=topa
 href=/index.cfm/page/#getcontent.label#.htm#Ucase(XmlUnFormat(GetConten
 t.XmlFeed[getcontent.currentrow].contentdata.XmlChildren[1].common.label.X
 mlText))#/abrnbsp;br/td
  /tr
  /cfif
  /cfloop
  /table

It is working dandy, however, is there anyway I can sort this stuff
 (alpha, date, etc?) without XSLT?

 THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

how does Cold Fusion decide on wheather to use Named Pipe or Tcpip?
Last week when I changed client configuration for one DSN, it chagned all the others.
Is this the way it supposed to be?

Is there a way to trace more information about SQL Server Connection from Cold fusion.
For example, if we want to look at all the connections that are opened by one DSN,
can we take a look at it? This would help us with monitoring why we are having
connection problem to SQL Server.

This guy changed client configuration for one DSN? I'm not sure what
he means by that. Changing one setting in one DSN does not change any
other DSN settings other than the one you are editing. Unless there is
some kind of MX bug involved that is...

To answer the second part, just use a different user account for each
DSN...

Re: My First CF Site (Critique Request)

2003-03-11 Thread jon hall
Overall it looks great to me. Just a couple things.

The Times font gets hard to read at smaller sizes...you might try at
Tahoma, Veranda, or Georgia.

The dark green hover makes the link text hard to read.

portal.cfm throws a CF error if I pass an invalid id in the url.
Putting an error handler on the site it a good way to keep errors from
being seen by the public and letting you fix them before they complain
:)
This one is great.

ReadyHosting.com alternatives?

2003-03-11 Thread Shawn Grover
I have a couple of sites hosted at www.readyhosting.com. Their CF servers
have been down more than not in the past few days, with no responses from
their tech support. Calling them get's me put onto a hold queue for an
extended period.

So, I'm looking for alternatives that offer similar features for a similar
price. Specifically they offer 500MB storage, Unlimited DSNs (though I only
need 3 or 4) and Cold Fusion services for $99 US per year. The downside is
that they only support CF 4.5, but I can live with that if needed.

Any suggestions for something comparable - I would prefer CF5.0 but can live
with 4.5. If it helps any, one of the sites is a charitable, non-profit
organization.

Thanks for any tips.

Subject: My First CF Site (Critique Request)

Sorry if this is a bit OT, but I was hoping to get some
feedback on my first CF site: http://makeover.sllboces.org

For what they're worth:

1) The body and link text is REALLY, REALLY small. Too small to read
comfortably.

Also you've set your font sizes up in a such a way that the browser
contols for resizing the text do NOT work. This is most likely because
you used pixel sizes in the style sheet. Consider either using relative
sizes in the sheet or making mutliple versions of the style sheet
available for use by people that need larger text.

3) I would really consider moving your menu to the top of the page.
It's nice and experimental and all, but is your audience really
experimental? If (as I think it is) your audience may NOT be advanced
computer users make it as easy for them as possible and adopt a plain
vanilla structure: menu at the top, logo in the upper right, etc.

4) At least on my screens (LCDs) the text of the Of Interest links is
illegible when being moused-over (the green is too overpowering).

5) The logo is just gi-freakin'-normous - but it's very simple. I would
consider shrinking it down personally. The image of the interested guy
is nice - I would probably push something like that larger before the
logo.

6) If you shrunk the logo and moved things around you might then
consider taking the Quick Links out of a single select box and using
multiple boxes (one per group). This would allow people to eliminate a
lot of the scrolling needed in that box (right now there are 10
screens of links within that select box). Also the text for that
select is also REALLY, REALLY small.

Also you might link to a single, plain HTML page with all of those links
for those that like to see all their options in front of them.

I also wouldn't repeat the quick links in two different places as you
have.

For the inner pages:

1) I would drop your back link. It's cute, but completely redundant
and doesn't offer anything - again I would REALLY consider moving the
menu to the TOP of the page.

That's about it off the top of my head. Damn I'm a picky bastard.

Jim Davis

Re: ReadyHosting.com alternatives?

2003-03-11 Thread charlie griefer
Hi Shawn:

For the price, I cannot say enough good things about Nexpoint.

They have a $99/yr package that includes:

CF 5
unlimited ODBC datasources (Access)
unlimited e-mail
unmetered bandwidth
500MB storage
PHP
ASP
etc

They also offer SQL Server 2k for an additional $25/yr (whereas most other
places would charge that per month).

Caveat is that they really are not up 99.9% (as I believe they guarantee).
But the downtime hasn't been excessive at all (in fact, I am not aware of
any downtime in the past 6 months or so). When the system does go down, it
comes up again fairly quickly (none of the outages that I can recall were
for extended periods of time).

I've also submitted trouble tickets at 2 am on Saturday and gotten responses
and resolutions by 3 am.

I'm not associated with these guys...I make nothing for recommending them.
I just really am *that* pleased with the overall service and price.

See the $99/yr plan here:
http://www.nexpoint.net/products/shared/winspecial.cfm

Another Verity Search Problem

2003-03-11 Thread Bill keziah
This morning, my customer complained that he wasnt getting the desired
search results. After research, I have determined that the index was in
fact not being indexed!

Looking at the sysinfo.log the following message appears for each document
within the collection:

Error: E0-720 (I/O Filter): Could not load filter 'flt_kv -recognize'
which is named in your style.uni file.

Error: E2-0531 (Document Index): Document 1 (document path): Unable to index
document - SKIPPING.

Now my collection indexing thru CFAdministrator tells me that the collection
was indexing successfully. I have looked in the CFUSION/VERITY/FILTERS
folder and there is nothing there.

Can anyone help?

Subject: ReadyHosting.com alternatives?

I have a couple of sites hosted at www.readyhosting.com. Their CF
servers have been down more than not in the past few days, with no
responses from their tech support. Calling them get's me put onto a
hold queue for an extended period.

So, I'm looking for alternatives that offer similar features for a
similar price. Specifically they offer 500MB storage, Unlimited DSNs
(though I only need 3 or 4) and Cold Fusion services for $99 US per
year. The downside is that they only support CF 4.5, but I can live
with that if needed.

Any suggestions for something comparable - I would prefer CF5.0 but can
live with 4.5. If it helps any, one of the sites is a charitable,
non-profit organization.

Thanks for any tips.

Shawn

if i was you i'd consider uninstalling and reinstalling dwmx.
 check out this link
 http://www.joexx.de/DW-Exporter/download_en.php

that will make it a breeze i think it will cure your woes

I took your advice and now things looke to be Kosher. The one thing I have
not done yet is go in and play with creating my own Keyboard Shortcuts
because I think that's where things went bad last time. But for anybody
who
might run in to this problem, at the very least this is what I did to get
 working again:

 1. Ran the DW-Exporter utility recommeded (great tool!)
 2. Add/Remove Programs - Uninstall DWMX
 3. Ran RegEdit to look for lingering Dreamweaver keys (only found some in
 the file associations options)
 4. Re-booted for posterity!
 5. Ran Installer for DW 6.0
 6. Opened DWMX to see if problems were still present (they weren't)
 7. Close DWMX and installed 6.1 updater
 8. Re-imported backed-up Sites via DW-Exporter tool (though not the config
 files)
 9. Opened DWMX and all was well

As I said, I'm thinking that things went south when I went o make copies
of
Keyboard Shortcuts to set up my own preferences. I'm gonna wait to test
that
part till later. But those steps should at least get you a fully-function
product. I'll let you know how the Shortcuts part goes later on.

 Regards,
 Dave.

RE: Another Verity Search Problem

2003-03-11 Thread Gaulin, Mark
Hi
I don't know exactly what the problem is, but the Verity style and filter
stuff has to do with extracting content from files of different types
(extensions, mime types)... there might be a filter for .txt or .html or
.doc, etc. It is possible that there is an unrecognized file extension
somewhere in the index path. The style filters are configurable through
files located in the cfusion\verity\common directory, but it is not
something that most people ever need to look at. The
cfusion\verity\_nti40\bin directory has the dlls and other stuff that verity
needs, and flt_kv.dll should be there.

Too bad you don't get a better error message...

Subject: Another Verity Search Problem

Can anyone help?

scheduling application in cf?

2003-03-11 Thread Melissa Fraher
Hello everyone.

I am interested in developing a registration / scheduling form which
would allow the user to select classes and check for time conflicts.

I remember back when I registered for DevCon2002, there was a very nice
conference registration form which checked for available seats / time
conflicts. It was much nicer than what I would need at this point,
although I would love to eventually head that way.

Do any of you know of existing scheduling systems using html and cold
fusion / or do you have any advice for me?

Regards,

Melissa Fraher

MS Word Object

2003-03-11 Thread Robert Bailey
Hey guys.

Playing around here, and trying to count the words in a MS Word document. It
is returning a number, but not the amount of words in the doc, as when I
open it up using word, and look at the count there, it is a few off from
when I use the object. Maybe I am going it wrong.

I created a small document. I open it in the object and do the count (which
I think I am going it right), and the total count is returned as 18. I open
the document in Word, do a count, says I have 14 words. Very odd.

I am using Word 2000 and CFMX. Also, anyone know how I can get the total
pages, document name, paragraphs, etc... that word gives you on the word
count box? not seeing much information on it online, and stumbled up on the
count by mistake, so it may be not what I am trying to do. I just need a
realistic count. The document does have 14 words, as I counted it myself,
not sure why when using the code below it says I have 18 words. Here is the

RE: My First CF Site (Critique Request)

2003-03-11 Thread Costas Piliotis
Also, the select box for navigating... Consider switching it to some DHTML
navigation or something... There's a tonne of info in there that you could
really explore.

I agree... The menu at the top would work much better... Usually good is a
small menu at the base with the same links repeated in plain html for handy
navigation on larger articles and the like.

I also agree. Back button is redundant. Home can be part of your menu.

Subject: My First CF Site (Critique Request)

Sorry if this is a bit OT, but I was hoping to get some
feedback on my first CF site: http://makeover.sllboces.org

For what they're worth:

1) The body and link text is REALLY, REALLY small. Too small to read
comfortably.

Also you've set your font sizes up in a such a way that the browser contols
for resizing the text do NOT work. This is most likely because you used
pixel sizes in the style sheet. Consider either using relative sizes in the
sheet or making mutliple versions of the style sheet available for use by
people that need larger text.

3) I would really consider moving your menu to the top of the page. It's
nice and experimental and all, but is your audience really experimental? If
(as I think it is) your audience may NOT be advanced computer users make it
as easy for them as possible and adopt a plain vanilla structure: menu at
the top, logo in the upper right, etc.

4) At least on my screens (LCDs) the text of the Of Interest links is
illegible when being moused-over (the green is too overpowering).

5) The logo is just gi-freakin'-normous - but it's very simple. I would
consider shrinking it down personally. The image of the interested guy is
nice - I would probably push something like that larger before the logo.

6) If you shrunk the logo and moved things around you might then consider
taking the Quick Links out of a single select box and using multiple boxes
(one per group). This would allow people to eliminate a lot of the
scrolling needed in that box (right now there are 10 screens of links
within that select box). Also the text for that select is also REALLY,
REALLY small.

Also you might link to a single, plain HTML page with all of those links for
those that like to see all their options in front of them.

I also wouldn't repeat the quick links in two different places as you have.

For the inner pages:

1) I would drop your back link. It's cute, but completely redundant and
doesn't offer anything - again I would REALLY consider moving the menu to
the TOP of the page.

That's about it off the top of my head. Damn I'm a picky bastard.

Jim Davis

RE: Re-ordering table records

2003-03-11 Thread Mosh Teitelbaum
Peter:

I built a system quite a few years back that let you reorder records. The
front end was a select list showing all of the records and 2 buttons, up and
down. When you were finished reordering the records, you'd push the submit
button which would build a list of the elementIDs in the new order. The
backend simply looped over the list and entered the new order number into
the DB.

Email me offlist if you want the code (front and back).

What would be the best (web based) way to provide a sorting feature of
records in a database table (eg: move up/down).

 Cheers!

The drop down in the calcualtor wont let me click it.
The examples window pops up a message about being IE only.

Useless.

I'd throw the URL away on principle.

 Here's a code snippet...

   cfinclude template=email_footer.cfm

   cfmailparam name=Reply-To value=#form.my_email#

   /cfmail

   cfcatch type=Any
   span class=error
The email was not sent properly, please try
 again.br
   a href=javascript:document.history.back();Go

   cfoutput#cfcatch.detail#/cfoutputBr

   cfmodule template=email_template_popup.cfm

RE: MS Word Object

2003-03-11 Thread Robert Bailey
hmmm, very odd. Maybe my install of word is messed up here?

So I wrote a quick script in word:

   Sub Test()

   Dim DocOpen As Word.Document

   Set DocOpen = Documents.Open(c:\blah.doc)

   With DocOpen
MsgBox The name of this doc is .Name Which has a count of
.Words.Count
   .Close wdDoNotSaveChanges
   End With
   Set DocOpen = Nothing

   End Sub

OK, simple, displays the name of the document and how many words. The
document I opened has one word, simply hi

Even this script returns is as 2 words! But if I open up blah.doc in MS Word
manually and check the count, it says one word, as it should. Also, when I
am using the com object, I can not get the .name value, says it is not a
method. Know anything about this at all? is it something I should not worry
about?

Thanks!

Try prototyping how to do it in the vba editor (alt-F11) in word, that's how
I always do stuff in word, then you get intellisense and help etc.

Then when you have it done, port it to cfscript and then try running it

Subject: MS Word Object

Here is the
code. Thanks for any help!

CFTRY
   CFOBJECT
   ACTION=CONNECT
   CLASS=Word.Application
   NAME=objWord
   TYPE=COM
 CFCATCH
   CFOBJECT
   ACTION=CREATE
   CLASS=Word.Application
   NAME=objWord
   TYPE=COM
 /CFCATCH
/CFTRY

CFSCRIPT

   OpenDoc = objWord.Documents.Open(c:\blah.doc);

   Count = opendoc.words.count();

   OpenDoc.Close();

   objWord.Quit();

   objWord = Nothing;
/CFSCRIPT

input radio buttons

2003-03-11 Thread FlashGuy
HI,

I have the following radio buttons:

input type=radio name=Yesnbsp;Yesbr
input type=radio name=Nonbsp;No

Currently I can click on both the yes and no and they both get selected. I don't
want that to happen. The user should only be able to select one.
How can I do this?

I also have another list of radio buttons with 5 items but only want to allow the user
to select one and NOT multiples.
