Indeed. I'm not allowed. Not if I want to stay employed, which I do.

Not necessarily NIH, but the individual institute.

The extension manager runs, but I am informed that I have insufficient

CF Eclipse doesn't require an install. You just execute the exe.

Although that could have all kinds of policy repercussions I would imagine.

I'm surprised that NIH is that locked down. The software is approved
throughout pretty much the entire federal government. What is blocking you
from installing the extensions? Can't you just run the built in extension

ColdFusion extensions for Dreamweaver MX 2004 - non-administrator

2006-08-15 Thread Everett, Al \(NIH/NIGMS\) [C]
I work in a locked-down environment. I cannot install software myself
nor choose different tools to use.

We're using CFMX 7, so naturally I want the extensions for Dreamweaver
MX 2004.

I cannot install them as I do not have administrative rights to my
machine. One of the tech guys can install it as an administrator but
it's only installed for that user account and doesn't work for me.

I've not found anything in the Adobe knowledgebase yet. Any ideas?

No, I cannot use CFEclipse. No, I cannot get administrative rights to my
machine. Yes, Dreamweaver 8 may be an option, but that's a whole other
request process and who-knows-how-long a wait.

Re: DreamWeaver MX - How do you add your own button

To that end I can heartily recommend Dreamweaver 8: The Missing Manual book!

What is is with software these days - no dang manuals!

http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/dreamweaver8tmm/index.html

It has many great tips on this great program. For example:

Under Windows the "screen resolution" changing options are not selectable if
your document window is maximised - you need to minimise it for them to become
available.

See. Not in the manual lol!

Has anyone experienced a problem with Dreamweaver MX 8 not putting the
files, even when it says that it has? I save and put the files using a
mapped network drive and look at the files on my server and the file
size/created times have not changed. If I make large text changes the new
file will actually replace the old one, but small ones, like an updated SQL
statement will not overwrite the old file. Is this a bug?

Dreamweaver MX 2004 / MacOSX site type selector bug?

2004-09-13 Thread Damien McKenna
As mentioned before, Dreamweaver lets you keep settings for a test
server for working with a development server and a live server.  Neat
idea, the only problem is that it doesn't work for me on OSX.  At least
95% of the time when I change between the live and test servers it
gives me an error saying "An FTP error occurred - cannot get remote
folder information".  However, if I leave that server type selected, go
to the site configuration window and then back to the server pane, it
works every time.  This suggests to me that it is Dreamweaver acting up
rather than my server or configuration.

Has anyone else seen this?

Personally I wish that the selector didn't have four options (local,
remote, test, map) but there was a single option to switch between
development and production.

That probably would have fixed the problem where DWMX 6.01 was crashing
on my Windows system when I opened specific files.  I tied it down to a
cfinclude but didn't know about this option, which probably would have
fixed it.  I haven't had any problems since I moved to a Mac with DWMX

Looks like a DW's translator gone crazy trying to figure out the contents of
many include files. It may happens, especially inside a Fusebox app or
something that have plenty of inside a single .cfm file.

Go to:

Edit > Preferences > Invisible Elements > Server-side Includes

And uncheck the "Show contents of included files" box. Then restart DW.

I am not sure it will fix your problem, but it's worth a try

I use DW everyday for 6-8 hours. Rarely do I get errors in DWMX.

Your specific error may be due to text in a document you're working on. It also could be another application interfering with DW by chewing up resources (seen this once or twice).

Specifically, it's sounding like you're trying to edit an instance of a
template master within Dreamweaver. (In the master template you can edit
anything, but in instances of that template you can only edit the regions
you've marked as editable within the master.)

For the PHP or HomeSite aspects I can't tell the history of that document,
but if you're seeing Dreamweaver's template tags in there like that, then
that goes along with the general description you provide of finding certain
regions editable, certain regions locked.

Hello,

I just opened a PHP file in Dreamweaver and inside the file is a comment
that looks like this:

This file was originally built in Homesite 5.5.  I did not put this line
of code into the file (knowingly, at least) and can't delete it.
Everything in the file AFTER this line can't be edited, everything
before this line can be.  Any idea what it is and how I get rid of it?

Also, there's another similar line near the end of the file that looks
like
so:

But nothing after this line is editable either.  I've never seen
anything of the sort.  Anyone?

I think this has to do with custom DW templates. Try opening the file in notepad and removing those extra lines etc.

At that point, you wouldn't need to rely on database security, in the sense
that you wouldn't have to use USERNAME and PASSWORD attributes within
CFQUERY. Instead, you'd have a different RDS password for each instance, and
that instance would only allow connections to the specific databases for
that application/user.

You would, of course, still create individual logins within your database as
appropriate.

Unfortunately, I doubt that you'll be able to do exactly what you want.
Within CFMX 6.1, you only have one RDS password, which you'd have to give to
all your RDS-enabled curators. This password would allow anyone with RDS
access to browse all of the databases that CFMX has been configured to use,
and edit any of the CFM files on the CF server's filesystem, assuming the
default filesystem ACLs have not been changed.

You could avoid placing usernames and passwords in your CFMX datasources,
which would prevent people from browsing them through RDS, but I'm not sure
whether RDS will then give you a database login prompt to allow you to enter
that information then. Even if it does, you'd then have to pass USERNAME and
PASSWORD attributes within each CFQUERY tag, and one RDS user could simply
read the files of another user to find out the username and password. This
might be sufficient for your needs, but obviously it isn't a guarantee of
security.

You might instead consider setting up separate instances of CFMX, which
unfortunately would require that you purchase Enterprise edition. This would
allow you to isolate each curator.

I just downloaded it too and it looks awesome, but am having problems
connecting to MSDE instances. I'm not sure where to specify the instance
name. I am guessing that MS does this by using different ports for each
instance. I have it setup to use Windows Auth. I don't see that option in

Of course, if you don't like DW before, you aren't going to change idea but,
if you already use DW, the update will make the experience more pleasant

Oops, I didn't read the thread closely enough to see you're referring to
AquaData instead of BlueDragon. Well, in any case, I suspect the same thing
is true - AquaData Studio uses JDBC, which doesn't support Windows
authentication against SQL Server.

I don't know about BlueDragon specifically, but with CFMX you can't use
Windows authentication through the MS SQL Server JDBC driver. If you need to
use Windows authentication, you'd have to use the ODBC Socket driver, and I
wouldn't recommend that.

As for separate SQL Server/MSDE named instances, they do use different
ports.

Yep.  Aqua Data is like Enterprise Manager, but with the ability to talk to a
wide variety of dbs.  Of course, since it's not MS-specific, it doesn't have all
the bells and whistles of EM, but it's the best thing out there if you have to
deal with more than one brand of db.

I can't remember the last time I used RDS.  There's a terrific tool
called Aqua Data Studio (www.aquafold.com)
that I use instead.  It provides support for every major database as
well as ODBC, and has a terrific query
generator, data editor, and other DB-related tools.  It's a very nice
way to preflight SQL queries before inserting
the code into a CF template, whether you use CFMX,  BD, or CFAS 5 or
before.  And you can work with Oracle,
MS SQL, and MySQL databases all in the same interface.  AND it runs in
Windows, Linux & MacOS.

Most databases have associated GUI tools that have way more power than
DWMX ever will. For example, I have never used a more powerful GUI for

Actually, the cool part of using DWMX (and CFS) here is that you can see the table/column names within the IDE. Not the generation of code!

You can use any code generator and still retain full control of what's being
written. It just require an extra investment since you need to know the way
the code generator works and tweak it to fit your needs (DW is very
extensible).

BTW CF MX is, in the end, a very sophisticated Java code generator, still
nobody complains for not being control of the Java code it writes :-)))

Not having the Binding Panel enabled doesn't prevent you from making any
database work :-)
After all, you just edit text file, you could easily get rid of DW at all
and still be happy (many do)

BlueDragon and Dreamweaver MX

2004-03-10 Thread David Berry
I have just started trying to use BlueDragon 6.1 beta on a
development box instead of macromedia coldfusion MX.  One
thing I might be missing and am looking for some advise on
is within dreamweaver mx.

How do you set up your database tables using the bindings
tab when you have to sign on using RDS and BlueDragon does
not support it.  Does this not disable a big feature of
dreamweaver mx when using BlueDragon or am I missing
something simple?

Thanks in advance

Lots of newbie questions of course, but the guys and gals who write the DW

You know, I went to house of fusion to actually look,
because I've switched over to MX 2004 lately and have also
had some kinda noob questions that I was afraid to post
here. Surprise surprise, there's a list there for just
about everything in the world related to CF, but not a
single "DWMX" discussion list.

It seems like the time is ripe to start up a good DWMX
list. People are moving over with 2004 now, and there are
enough of us using DWMX that might have DWMX related
questions, but still be doing CF stuff, especially the
steps involved with CFCs and CSS *IN* DWMX that might be a
bit hard to get by yourself or just playing around.

So, is it possible? Could we maybe get a "DWMX-Talk" list
going? I'd subscribe and participate in a heartbeat.

Sorry for OT post.

My home install of DWMX when I save a file the '*' stays attached to the
file name. But If I click off the file and then back it disappears. Of
course this doesn't happen to me at work.

So wondering what behavior or setup would cause this.

If this needs to be moved to a more appropriate list, please do.

Oh and is there a good Dreamweaver discussion list out there, MM site is a
bit lacking.

OT: Dreamweaver MX

2003-12-03 Thread Jeff Beer
In DWMX you can add tag libraries for just about any language (PHP, VB,
CF, etc).

I can't figure out how to change the delimiter for a specific library.
I want to add a bunch of tags for an image gallery creator (Arles, if
you know it), and want to be able to plug in the tags using dreamweaver.
They look like this:

{indexpage.head}

The DWMX tag library editor keeps complaining about invalid characters..

Sounds to me like CFMX of some flavor was installed at the same time. This would likely do the rename action that you mentioned.

RE: Errors in table Design view of Dreamweaver MX 2004.

2003-10-03 Thread Matthew Walker
What about if you just put them around the #articleid#?

Of course, what you're doing isn't really improper nesting since the CF
server ignores the HTML tags and the CFML tags disappear before the HTML is
parsed. But to help the human eye, I personally generally try to avoid
"improper" nesting of tags even HTML and CFML tags. It looks like DW is
being tripped up by this, which is fairly surprising.

Correct.
REmoving those CFOUTPUT tags has the tables displaying just fine in
Dreamweaver MX 2004.
Once I put the tags back in, it's messed up again.

Is there anything I'm missing here? I use this same code in several
other sites, wrapped with the tags, and I've never noticed
this before.

Here is the specific block of code which produces odd results:

Is there some rule for doing this that I'm breaking? If I put the
CFOUTPUT tags inside the and only around the OnClick attribute, the
code displays correctly as well.
Why does it render in the wysiwyg design view properly with those
CFOUTPUTs around it?

Because of course all of this is going to be wrapped in

There are always differences, because WYSIWYG editors don't use the same
HTML rendering components as actual browsers.

If you have code that meets all relevant specifications and DW renders
it
wrong, put together a test case, zip it up, put it on the web, and then
fill

Cool! DW 2004 is even better in this area, while 100% Code Trust is not
there yet, many similar bugs still affecting DW 6.1 were solved

SOLVED Dreamweaver MX adding random code

2003-09-03 Thread Hagan, Ryan Mr (Contractor ACI)
Greetings,

For what it's worth, I'd say that the 6.1 Updater does, indeed, fix this
problem. A few people suggested that I apply this upgrade. I've been
working with the update for about 10 days now, and so far, no random code
changes from Dreamweaver. Thanks everyone!

Subject: Dreamweaver MX adding random code

I've done a search in the archives and found one user that said they were
having this problem. However, there was no mention if this was something
that could be fixed, or if I just have to trash my copy of Dreamweaver.

DWMX is adding code to my Cold Fusion tags. In almost all cases, the code
is an extra attribute to one of the tags and looks like this:
mmTranslatedValueOutline="OUTLINE=%22%3Ccfif%3E%22"
mmTranslatedValueOutlineID="OUTLINEID=1"

The tag seems particularly susceptible to this strange behavior. It
seems to happen when I check a file out, modify it, and check the file back
in. All of the sudden, when I try to view the page I just modified I get an
"Invalid CFML construct found" error. When I check that file back out,
there is the random code.

PLEASE tell me there is a solution for this. DWMX is not a cheap editor and
I don't exactly have the resources to go out and get ANOTHER editor. I've
searched Macromedia's site, but have found no reference to this problem.
Thanks for the help!!!

Definitely!

To be sincere, while everyone has one or more pet features still missing in
DW (code collapsing, expression builder or whatever), I strongly believe
that Code Trust is the number one issue (followed by performances) that
affect DW nowadays and prevent a broader adoption among coders.

The way DW's developing team has tried to solve so far is to build a complex
heuristic and try to ensure Code Trust on a case by case basis. They are
very committed to it, between MX, 6.1 and now 2004 they squashed a terrific
amount of bugs but, in my opinion, they keep fighting the alligators instead
of go ahead and clean up the swamps...

I admire their commitment and restless efforts, but they will never be able
to cover all the potential exotic combinations of code we can throw in DW.
The issues related to XSL or PHP/Smarty are an example; how long we can keep
going on, discovering one bug at time, report it to the DW's team and wait
for next release? It's an endless, frustrating, effort.

What we need is a way to completely prevent DW to mess around with the code,
it doesn't matter if DW try to do it for legitimate reasons, like fixing a
path or improving rendering in Design View, there must be a way to stop all
of this. If the price to pay is to disable some features (translators, SBs
or even more), I am more than willing to pay for it. There must be a way to
enforce a "Code Trust Mode" that ensure 100% Code Trust for people that need
it.

The implementation details may vary, from turning it on in the application
settings, on a session basis or a page basis. Whatever would be just fine
for me, there is no need to have it turn on by default either; just keep the
traditional DW users happy but leave an option open for coders. Right now
the "Code Rewrite" setting in DW are just a joke...

It's clearly something that would deeply affect DW's architecture but I
don't see any other viable and effective solution.

Sorry for the long post, people in the DW community are pretty much aware of
my opinion on this, I just hope it help fellow CF developers getting a
better picture

Re: Dreamweaver MX adding random code

2003-08-27 Thread Calvin Ward
Massimo,

As I said, it appeared to resolve an issue. I believe it was an issue where
an extraneous was inserted in a very specific code sequence. But
then again, I may have also removed the Translators near the same time.

I don't recall any side effects that impacted anything I did with DWMX as it
regards handcoding.

The conversation was on CF code specifically. Not trying to save the world
here, just trying to lend a hand.

Again, removing the Translators and Behaviors could resolve the issue that
started this thread, and that is helpful if someone has no use for those
features that do violate Code Trust.

My thoughts are that it is a good thing to discuss these things,
specifically in a forum that MM folks are attentive to, so that they can see
where the needs for improvement for development tools support for their
application servers are at. Knowledge and idea sharing are also good things
:)

Yes I did and I tried to push it pretty hard for a few days. It help, it
also has some nasty side-effects (nothing that could really affect
hand-coders), but in the end it doesn't solve all the problems.

The whole Code Trust issues have very deep roots. If you want to test it
out, get rid of all Translators, Server Behaviours and whatever you like;
then open a few dozens of XSL files (examples from books would be just
fine), finally, count how many of them get screwed by only opening them in
DW...

I am suggesting XSL files just because it's the kind of files DW screws more
easily (especially if they have XHTML embeded inside), but the same can
happen with CFML, ASP, PHP (especially with Smarty) or anything else.

> And removing the Server Behaviours appears to remove some code rewriting.

Being somewhat familiar with DW's architecture and the Server Behaviours, I
can't imagine how removing Server Behaviours, without getting rid of
Translators too, could improve things. Do you have a test case for it? I
would be sincerely interested in seeing/reproduce it

Re: Dreamweaver MX adding random code

2003-08-27 Thread Calvin Ward
Massimo,

I didn't say it 'would' resolve it, I said I 'believe'.

I also never said it would resolve all of the Code Trust issues. However,
there is nothing wrong with resolving Code Trust issues as you can if you
want.

Have you actually tested removing the Translators and Behaviors, and then
attempted to recreate some of these issues?

If it is indeed the Translator, Translators can be done the same way, Create
a Translators/ColdFusionOld and move the contents of Translators/ColdFusion
to the new folder.

And removing the Server Behaviours appears to remove some code rewriting.

Another benefit of doing this is DWMX performance.

Nothing is misleading when somebody suggests something may help. What would
be misleading would be an absolute. I'm just offering a suggestion, not
writing a book.

I ceased trusting DW with CF code some time ago.
I few months back I tried to use it to knock up a quick bit of ASP. And it
screwed that over as well.

Just my 2c.

By removing Server Behaviours you aren't going to solve the Code Trust
issues at all.

First of all, the bug reported by Bryan is clearly related to Translators,
not Server Behaviours then, even if you manage to get rid of all the
Translators, there are still circunstances where DW will screw up your code
anyway.

See above, you aren't going to solve the specific issue and, more in
general, all the bugs related to Code Trust.

I hate to sound rude, but I am seeing more and more misleading statements
circulating about how to avoid similar problems in DW, like people believing
that only use Code View will keep them safe (not at all!).

Code Trust.

Sure, you lose the functionality of existing Server Behaviours, but it's a
trade off on what is important, if indeed Code Trust is more important than
being able to click your way to a repeated region (cfloop) and be able to
view it in Design View.

Have you installed the 6.1 Updater? I ran into this occasionally (very
