Jason- I might be wrong, but I think the 6.x PIX software requires the 16MB Flashcard. You might check CCO to confirm. Re: point-to-point subinterface [7:37831]
Hi, Is there already a s0.1 interface defined? Try creating a s0.2 or something that doesn't exist. Once you create a sub-interface you can't change it from multipoint to point-to-point and vice versa. Also, if you remove sub interfaces they aren't completely removed from memory until the router is reloaded/reset. Perhaps, you deleted the s0.1 interface and are running into this. Re: point-to-point subinterface [7:37831]
At some point since the last time you rebooted this router, you must have configured the same subinterface as multipoint. Either choose a different subinterface number or remove the subinterface and reboot the router. That will allow you to use the same number with a different link type. Re: Re: MPLS in the Enterprise [7:36670]
Interesting, let me also bring few things up here, not that I have much experience in MPLS/VPN but who does ? :-) I suppose one of the problems with this particular service is that not all SP's or Enterprises fully understand the potential, or technology in general. First, SP's might not be able to provide overall cheaper connectivity for the Ent's if their network doesn't span around the existing Ent's POP's. I suppose when considering the service, one needs to realize all the advantages of it and compare it to what they have now. As with any technology, there are many ways to implement it. One might be able to just start the service for interconnecting the HUB locations for example. Another advantage could be the Internet traffic which no more has to travel thru dedicated lines which are shared thru the whole Enterprise. Referring to John's original post, the CE equipment doesn't have to participate in the MPLS, so the MPLS looks like any other connection to the rest of your network. Now, it's a choice or not, depending on the service and possibly other customer requirements, whether CE participates in MPLS. In general, SP would take care of the routing between the sites, the routing would be totally independent of their other MPLS/VPN's or Internet routing which gives the Enterprise traffic protection in the form of invisibility to other SP customers or Internet users when required. It all depends, the best thing is to study the technology and the the details of offerings. I personally have no real time experience in this whole new area but I hope in theory I should be pretty close to what one needs to be aware of. Actually, if you go the route of CCNP Exam Certification Guide series, the Switching and Remote Access ones have labs to follow along, that is, if you have a Cat5000 and ISDN BRI and PRI for your home lab. BTW - except for the official BSCN book, the other courses are better explained in the Exam Guides than the official course/curriculum, in particular Remote Access. Good Luck. Re: Understaning Custom Queue - dual link (PPP _Frame relay) [7:37825]
may be you can use the following mathod instead of CQ. Cause CQ is custom queue, maybe it will lead to a delay in the VOIP if the queue-size is not optimized well. So, may be you can use NBAR to adjust the bandwidth consumption between the Voice IP traffic and normal IP traffic first you define the Access-list for your IP traffic eg. in your first site, a network 192.168.100.X / 24 second site , a network 192.168.101.X/24 access-list 101 permit ip 192.168.100.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.101.0 0.0.0.255 then create a Class MAP for the IP traffic class-map IPTraffic match access-group 101 then, create a POLICY Class for the IP traffic and define the bandwidth you would like to used for the IP traffic policy-map IPTraffic class IPTraffic bandwidth 1 (if you like to only give 10Kb for the IP Traffic) The final Thing is to set the IP POlicy map on your Interface eg. on the serial or ethernet connection int Serial 1or int Fa0/1 service-policy output IPTraffic (becareful of the traffic direction passing through the interface, and each interface can only be apply one input and one output traffic policy class only) Last thing is to verify whther the above config is work or not. show class-map IPTraffic show policy-map IPTraffic show int Hope this can soothe your in-sufficient bandwidth problem. wuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwu wuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwuwu Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=37825&t=37825 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

So, may be you can use NBAR to adjust the bandwidth consumption between the Voice IP traffic and normal IP traffic first you define the Access-list for your IP traffic eg. in your first site, a network 192.168.100.X / 24 second site , a network 192.168.101.X/24 access-list 101 permit ip 192.168.100.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.101.0 0.0.0.255 then create a Class MAP for the IP traffic class-map IPTraffic match access-group 101 then, create a POLICY Class for the IP traffic and define the bandwidth you would like to used for the IP traffic policy-map IPTraffic class IPTraffic bandwidth 1 Hi there, > > I have a setup where I think I 'd need to use CQ but the documents that > I found at cisco's site where not enough to understand / "master" the > subject. > >Here is my scenario : > >I have a cisco 1750 in my branch office and another one on a remote > site. Understaning Custom Queue - dual link (PPP / Frame relay) setup [7:37821]
Hi there, I have a setup where I think I 'd need to use CQ but the documents that I found at cisco's site where not enough to understand / "master" the subject. Here is my scenario : I have a cisco 1750 in my branch office and another one on a remote site. Each cisco has two leased lines, one PPP and the other Frame-relay, both operating with 64K. I use VoIP to make the phone calls and I have database systems located at the remote site. I need to set up some sort of priority so I could optimize the overall usage "reserving" bandwidth for more critical applications. After searching I found that either policy routing or custom queue should do the job (in one way or another), with CQ being the "correct" one. Can you help me out ? The examples that I found were too simple for me to make any kind of decision. I am specially confused with the decision of setting a queue size. RE: NAT concepts [7:37815]
Found this on CCO, I assume the prefix would be the same concept, a sanity check. Link is at the bottom, HTH. Q. Why do I need to specify a subnet mask when configuring a NAT address pool? A. The subnet mask is used to sanity-check the addresses allocated from the pool (so we don't allocate the subnet broadcast address, for example). The subnet mask must match the size of the subnet into which you are translating. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/iosw/ioft/iofwft/prodlit/iosnt_qp.htm ~-Original Message- ~From: Paul Borghese [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] ~Sent: Sunday, March 10, 2002 5:49 PM ~To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~Subject: NAT concepts [7:37815] ~ ~ ~Hi, ~ ~I am trying to conceptually understand the NAT command: ~ ~ip nat pool name start-ip end-ip {netmask netmask | prefix-length ~prefix-length}[type rotary] ~ ~Why do you need to specify the netmask or prefix-length of the ~network? RE: books to use to study for CCNP exam [7:37818]
The libraries contain the exact books that you would buy individually (BSCN BCMSN BCRAN & CIT). It is just a marketing thing - one that will save you lots of money. However, BSCN is the only one of any of the CCNP course books that has labs to follow. Too bad. Shivjit Patil wrote: > > Hi..I have just finished my BSCN examinations. books to use to study for CCNP exam [7:37818]
Hi..I have just finished my BSCN examinations. I used the Cisco BSCN book for the examination. I found that book real good cause it was very comprehensive and had a lot of lab execises. Now I want to study for the BCMSN examination and I have to purchase a book for it. I have two options i.e either buy the individual BCMSN book or the CCNP Preparation Library. I prefer books that are complelty exhaustive and give you full knowledge on the subject. I was wondering if the CCNP Preparation Library is as exhaustive as the individual CCNP examination books. Could anyone please advice me as to what I should go ahead and buy. Hi Paul, Sorry, I neglected to defend the group there, but you are of course correct. The virus was always direct to me, not through your server. It's never normally a problem, just clean or delete, I just messed up and used my work e-mail for a while some time ago, so I got nagged by our net admins during the spate of virus's. NAT concepts [7:37815]
Hi, I am trying to conceptually understand the NAT command: ip nat pool name start-ip end-ip {netmask netmask | prefix-length prefix-length}[type rotary] Why do you need to specify the netmask or prefix-length of the network? You are already specifying the IP range. The NAT function should not need to know the netmask of the network. The address range does not appear in the forwarding table so it does not seem to be used for routing. Re: Windows XP and tftp [7:37738]
moving on.. I switched to a different router - a 4500M. Now I'm able to do all tftp actions. I think my 2509 has the write protect jumper on. I can't remember ever upgrading the code on this router since it is my terminal server. But the Boson tftp server is still dead. The Cisco and SolarWinds servers work fine on a router that has read/write flash. So I guess I don't have an XP problem after all.. Re: AS/400 Cluster Controller 5394 [7:37759]
This might sound really strange, but, if you are using a normal D25way connector (v.24) see if it works when pin 13 isn't connected. I once had all sorts of problems with IBM controllers both 5394 / 5494 and 3174 / 3274, after hours of troubleshooting finally ran through a breakout box and found that some of the controllers didn't like pin 13. Don't know why, but as soon as I removed it they all worked fine. I wasn't able to nail it down to a particular device / sw / fw combination but it worked for me. I suggest doing it with a breakout box before you start breaking pins with snip nosed pliars though ! :) Jon. Agree. I used both, Concentrator is very impressive. Support from Cisco TAC is great. Checkpoint VPN is good too, but their support is horrible. And their licensing is confusing. RE: Infrastructure Upgrade..... [7:37627]
A fine point, probably not what was originally meant but worth mentioning. While a switch cannot and should not prevent broadcasts, it can help limit broadcast storms with port-level broadcast rate limiting. Used in conjunction with a router and CGMP, a switch can reduce the level of irrelevant multicasts to a given port, if that's an issue. Yes, I know broadcasts are a special case of multicast. But they are rather like Groucho Marx's opinion "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member." Broadcasts just don't have any exclusivity, my deah, don't you know. But that does bring up the issue, not a common one but still to be considered, if there are unusual sources of broadcasts, and if they possibly can be converted to multicasts. For some reason, there are a fair number of healthcare applications that broadcast when they could multicast. Real-time financial applications like stock quotes are much better. Bloomberg financial news, for example, uses a huge multicast network to its subscribers. >1 24 port hub hanging off of a switch port will be in it's own collision >domain...and will not be that bad at all. Re: info on virus attack [7:37798]
What are you guys talking about? It is highly unlikely that a Virus will go through the server as all messages are stripped of their attachments and converted to plain-text before posting. Plus messages that look like they could contain (or at one time did contain) viruses are filtered. What could happen is someone catches a virus and the virus scans the inbox. Of course the Inbox is full of messages from this list. The virus then proceeds to send itself to everyone who has posted to the list and thus has a message in the client Inbox. Unfortunately GroupStudy can not stop it as the virus is never propagated through the server. One way to prevent this is to use the web discussion board to participate where a valid e-mail address is not required (in fact you have the option of putting any e-mail address you desire as your public address). That way, you can not be forwarded viruses - of course you also eliminate private e-mail concerning your posting. If the size of your 1900 cat is that of a pizza box, with a 9 pin console port, then you can not run CLI. If its half the size of one, with an rj45 console port, you need the Enterprise version of IOS to run CLI. RE: Windows XP and tftp [7:37738]
Just a quick reply: No Personal FW enabled; default installation of XP with Static/Pvt. IP with /24 and default GW, of course. Netstat -a shows: UDP MachineName:tftp *.* ]-- So I know it's listening. As I said before, I've gotten connections every time, it just failes to follow through on the process of sending the file upon request for one reason or another; also, default file permission are on the folder that the image resides in and I even re-downloaded the image to make sure it wasn't corrupt. I further proved it not being corrupt by moving it to the laptop running W2K with 100% success for every download attempt. Strange I'll let everyone know what I find when I get back to it. Re: info on virus attack [7:37798]
Hi Edna, Good to hear you're all cleaned up again. There seems to be a different contact number for every state. You can probably pick yours from the page below (although I don't think this is for security): http://www.verizon.net/contact/ Thanks for the update, although I knew which virus it was, I think I received it about 18 times in all :-) Do me a favour though - don't put me in your address book :-) Good luck, Gaz ""edna helem"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > Gaz, > > You sent out an email re: virus being sent by [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am > the wife of Abdi. Gaz, You sent out an email re: virus being sent by [EMAIL PROTECTED] I am the wife of Abdi. Let me explain to you and others concerned. My husband and I ordered DSL with verizon about 12 days ago. We did not have a firewall or virus software installed. After about 3 days of servi our computer began to lock up and finally we had no service at all. I had been troubleshooting with verizon tech support for about 5 days before they could tell me that there was a virus on my computer. I immediately went out and purchased the McAfee firewall and virus protection software. The virus appears to have been removed. I still do not have DSL service. I am using a dial-up connection. The name of the virus was the SirCam virus. I found out that the email was being propagated outside of my computer through your email to the cisco study group in which I am a member. I apologize for any inconvenience, but we had no idea what has been going on. Verizon tech support had me contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] by email to try and resolve this problem. They are not accessible by phone and their response to me by email has been that they have received my email and due to so many cases it may take a few days to follow up with an investigation. It has been 4 days. Does anyone have any suggestions on who I can contact at verizon and their phone number? >From: "Gaz" >Reply-To: "Gaz" >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: Serial (X.21) X-over cables [7:35212] >Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 19:31:39 -0500 > >Joel, > >Have a look at www.kg2.com >Kelly Griffin used to post to the group. Free Cisco Secure ACS Server [7:37797]
Cisco use to offer a version of Cisco Secure ACS server that was free. The limitations were you could only configure one NAS and had to use the TACACS protocol. Does anyone know if that version is still available? Re: no flames -- please (about NDA) [7:37796]
First, THANK YOU for the image of MIB's as non-SNMP. It has given me an occasional giggle since I read it, which was especially helpful in the emergency room last night (when you are cutting chain, do NOT have a finger between the handles of the bolt cutters). But this is one of the reasons I personally don't take the CCIE lab--there's no way to accuse me of disclosing a question I've never seen. That doesn't preclude me from having CCIE's, or at least people who have taken the lab, review scenarios before they go live, and being very open to feedback once they are public. I have dealt with Cisco lawyers in a publishing context, and they definitely can be annoying. Of course, in that context, one can push back with a knowledge of case law on intellectual property. One of their complaints was that I published a graphic that was in a Cisco course--which turned out to be something I originally wrote, on which Cisco had no IPR, and I put into the Cisco University seminar as labeled supplemental material. It was a good slide and propagated into several Cisco courses, which was the first place the lawyer saw it. >Hello, > > >Please, don't over-interpret this email. >I really would appreciate your opinion, >I am not trying to be sarcastic, assertive or whatever. > > >I blow my lab approximatelly 2 weeks ago. > >Since then, I have seen at least 3 or 4 questions taken >varbatim from my scenario, posted to this group. > >Because some of those question confused me, I would like >to discuss generic technology behind them on this forum. > >On the other hand, even participating in the thread started >as verbatim copy of original CCIE LAB makes me feel, well, >unconfortable, because I don't want to be accused of violation of NDA. >I don't want to be even remotly associated with such possible >accusition, by merely participating in those threads. > >But I still want to discuss with someone some issues, which >IMHO are at least not clear, (or to be frank -- CCO has contradictory >examples about them) without taking a risk of steping on the thin ice >of NDA violation. > >Also, as I can tell that at least 4 threads are about problems >taken verbatim from MY scenario, how many otheres threads are >verbatim copies of OTHER scenarios? > >I felt much more confortable and "free" to be active here before >my actual exam. RE: BGP using AS_PATH attribute [7:37749]
Yep.. and traceroute.. the failure is at R2.. I can ping the interface facing R1 and the loopback(different subnet) but can NOT ping the outgoing interface to R3. R2 can ping everybody R3 can only ping R2 incoming interface and loopback.. It's like R2 is not passing between AS100 and AS65000 even though it has complete routes and Sync is off. ISDN problems in IOS 12.1(5)T10 [7:37782]
Hi all, Have faced some weird problems when working with 4 port BRI module in 3662 router. The 3662 router has 12.1(5)T10 IP Plus IOS. Some of the problems faced are as under : The "dialer idle-timeout" on dialer interfaces does not work. The connections (ppp multilink bundle) are disconnected after a interval of 150 seconds (the dialer idle-timeout configured value) even though the IDLE time has always been 0 seconds. The "dialer pool-member 1 min-link 1" command simply blocks the B channel of that BRI interface even though there is traffic from a dialer belonging to Pool 1. ( i.e. when "dialer load-threshold 1 either " command has been configured on dialer, yet even after the load on BRI2/0:1 goes beyond 254/255 yet the second B channel never comes up. ) In the trace it shows that the BRI is trying to bring up the second interface but is unable to do so since Both channels are already busy. The most important flaw was : we have configured BRI2/0 and BRI2/1 both as members of Pool1 such that BRI2/0 has priority 100 and BRI2/1 has priority 50. Yet whenever there is interesting traffic for dialer1 (belonging to Pool1) it always tries to bring up BRI2/1 and BRI2/0 is never touched. This behavior is not noticed when BRI2/1 and BRI2/2 are configured members of the same pool (e.g. pool2) with BRI2/1 given the higher priority. ( i.e. dialer2, belonging to pool2, always brings up BRI2/1 first and then BRI2/2) relevant Configuration is as below : ! interface Serial1/0 bandwidth 2048 backup delay 260 360 backup interface Dialer1 ip address 14.29.0.18 255.255.255.252 no ip mroute-cache no cdp enable ! interface BRI2/0 no ip address encapsulation ppp no ip mroute-cache dialer pool-member 2 priority 50 dialer pool-member 1 priority 100 min-link 1 isdn switch-type basic-net3 no cdp enable ppp authentication chap ppp multilink ! interface BRI2/1 no ip address encapsulation ppp no ip mroute-cache dialer pool-member 1 priority 50 dialer pool-member 2 priority 100 isdn switch-type basic-net3 isdn T310 6 no cdp enable ppp authentication chap ppp multilink ! ! interface Dialer1 ip unnumbered FastEthernet0/0 encapsulation ppp dialer pool 1 dialer remote-name flex3662vp dialer idle-timeout 150 dialer fast-idle 90 dialer string 0228241482 dialer load-threshold 30 either dialer-group 1 pulse-time 0 ppp authentication chap ppp multilink ! interface Dialer2 ip unnumbered FastEthernet0/0 encapsulation ppp dialer pool 2 dialer remote-name flex3662rt dialer idle-timeout 150 dialer string 0805597611 dialer string 0805597622 dialer load-threshold 192 either dialer-group 2 no cdp enable ppp authentication chap ppp multilink ! i used to use cisco's tftp server on win 98/2000/xp and there have been no problems. however, one day my tftp on xp suddenly doesn't work for no reason. No matter what i do, it just timed out. I then download 3com's tftp server s/ware (another freeware) and it works again! so it's worth trying. hktco - Original Message - From: "Jeff D" To: Sent: Sunday, March 10, 2002 4:30 AM Subject: Windows XP and tftp [7:37738] Anyone have any issues with WindowsXP and using tftp? modification to halabi bgp book (ospf/bgp) [7:37776]
I built the bgp lab on page 302 of halabi's book (Internet Routing Architectures). If you do not have the book, youmay still be able to answer the question. A simple diagram is as follows RTA-RTF ===AS3 | \ | \ RTC =AS1 RTE-RTD ===AS2 However I did not use bgp multihop. I had an ebgp session from RTE to RTF. All routers except for rtc were running ospf with all networks included. When bgp network statements were added to RTA via redistribute connected command and to RTE via the network 192.68.12.0 and network 192.68.5.0 commands. I thought I would have full bgp connectivity to all networks from RTC even though synchronisation was on on each router. RTE bgp table had all routes in it with the correct as paths as well as all being best. Same was true for RTF, however RTA did not receive the 192.68.12.0 or 192.68.5.0 routes as best from RTF which prevented RTA from sending them to RTC. rtf#show ip bgp nei 172.16.1.1 adv BGP table version is 6, local router ID is 172.16.1.2 Status codes: s suppressed, d damped, h history, * valid, > best, i - internal Origin codes: i - IGP, e - EGP, ? - incomplete Network Next HopMetric LocPrf Weight Path *> 192.68.5.0 192.68.5.20 0 2 i *> 192.68.12.0 192.68.5.2 0 0 2 i rta#show ip bgp nei 172.16.1.2 rout BGP table version is 6, local router ID is 172.16.1.2 Status codes: s suppressed, d damped, h history, * valid, > best, i - internal Origin codes: i - IGP, e - EGP, ? - incomplete Network Next HopMetric LocPrf Weight Path * 192.68.5.0 192.68.5.20 0 2 i * 192.68.12.0 192.68.5.2 0 0 2 i This seems very strange. I believe that even with synchronisation on RTA should still advertise the routes to RTC because it has all the routes in the routing table from the ospf processes. please advise thanks Grant Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=37776&t=37776 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
