Has anybody taken the Understanding PBX Systems and Technology online at

to find any reference materials for the PBX test. Taken it and failed a

Any assistance would be appreciated.

2500 power supply from DC to AC

2001-01-22 Thread lee

Hi all, just a simple question. I have a 2500 series router with DC power
supply, can i change the power to AC ? Cisco open forum mentioned that cisco
router support 3 types of power supply, AC, DC & RPS.
If this thing can be done, where you recommend for purchase the power
supply, i don't mind to get a used unit.

The Subnets keyword [7:29046]

2001-12-13 Thread Lee

(REPOST)

I have a question regarding the "subnets" keyword for redistribution:

I have recently been presented with a scenario by a CCIE - the question
goes: to redistribute the two static routes into a EIGRP router (one is
10.1.1.0 /24 & other is 10.2.2.0 /24) - and the router only runs EIGRP
process. The thing that confused me is the subnets keyword: The CCIE
suggested that I need to use the "subnets" keyword under the EIGRP process
to redistribute the static routes (since they are subnetted):

e.g. router eigrp 100
redistribute static subnets

But I also read on TCP / IP Vol 1 (by Doyle) that states that subents
keyword should only be used when redistributing "discontingous" subnets into
"OSPF" - I haven't got the book in front of me on the moment, I can dig up
the exact page number tonight...

So who is correct? And if the book is wrong, howabouts do I redistribute the
subnetted routes into other protocols (like EIGRP, IGRP, BGP etc)

Thanks in advance,

Lee

Re: ISDN Dial-IN

2000-07-18 Thread lee

Well, I don't think you can control the user by using your AS5300. If you
want to restrict particular user to use only 1 B-channel, I think you need
radius or tacas+ to do the simultaneous caller-id restriction. Or you ask
the dial-in user to set their router's load threshold to maximum (255), so
that it won't bring up the second B-channel.

Hope it help you out.

Multichannel E1 PA for 7206VXR

2000-07-18 Thread lee

Hi all, has anyone configure Multichannel E1 PA for 7200 VXR before ??? I
have some question for the configuration, basically I have done an
implementation of this PA for a customer. I managed to make it work, my
customer has a E1 leased line to an upstream ISP. I configure the controller
with 'channel-group 0 timeslots 1-31'. Then, the link is up and running. Can
someone tell me what is 'channel-group 0 unframed' doing ??? what is the
different between my existing command line & 'channel-group 0 unframed' ???

Thanks in advance.

Re: Something I want to know but are not afraid anymore to as.....you guys & gals

2000-07-29 Thread lee

Hi, from what i understand is the 'bandwidth' command would not affect the
actual link. Basically. the 'bandwidth' command is an informational command
for each of the interfaces. If you don't put in 'bandwidth', you wouldn't
able to get the accurate load statistic of the interface. For example, for
the serial interface, the default bandwidth is T1 (1.544Mbps), if the actual
link is 64Kbps and you configured the serial interface without 'bandwidth'
command, sure you get 1/255 load on the interface all the time, eventhough
the link is very congest.

Another functionality of 'bandwidth' command is you can use this command to
choose the prefer route that you want if you have multiple path to the same
destination. Some dynamic routing protocol is using 'bandwidth' as the
metric, like EIGRP, OSPF, etc.

Sorry for my bad english. Hope it can help you out.

E1/R2 Signaling

2000-08-05 Thread lee

Hi all, I've configured an E1/R2 on AS5300 for a customer. Actually this
E1/R2 is use for WAP(Wireless Application Protocol) testing, which is using
Nokia 7110 WAP cell phone to dial to the E1/R2 line. Basically Nokia 7110
WAP have 2 kinds of call type, first one is 'analog' and the second one is
'ISDN'. I managed to use 'analog' call type to dial in to the E1/R2 line but
not 'ISDN'.
Can I assume that the E1/R2 line cannot accept 'ISDN' call ???
I've checked with the Cisco TAC engineer about this issue, but they couldn't
conform to me whether E1/R2 can accept 'ISDN' call or not.
I hope someone can give me the answer on this.

Thanks in advance.

Strange problem in AS5300 !!!!!!!

2000-06-07 Thread lee

I have already setup an AS5300 with 120 modems. I managed to dial in the
access server & get authenticate without activate the "bring up terminal
after dialing". Why i can conform that is bcoz i can get the ip address from
the ip pool from as5300, also the dns server ip address.

If I activate the "bring up terminal after dialing" on dial-up networking,
the terminal will show up and let me key-in username & password. once I
finished the key-in, then I press "F7" to continue, it straightaway tell me
that it can't establish the connection.

hopefully you guy can help me out.

Bandwidth Estimation for WAN Link

i have a customer who has about 150+ users in the data center, due to the

My customer want me to do the bandwidth estimation for them, especially the
coming leased line, they planned to get a 2Mbps link, is it sufficient ???
how can i prove them that the 2Mbps link is sufficient or not ???

FYI, all this 150+ users need to access the SAP server, Lotus Notes server
via the coming leased line, is there anyway to capture the user request
traffice & come out a statistic or something ??? Any tools that can be use
for this circumstance ???

Trunking between 4003 & 3640

2000-06-27 Thread lee

Hi all, i've faced a problem of 802.1Q trunk between Catalyst 4003 & 3640
router. This is what i've configured :

For 4003, i've enabled the trunk to use 802.1Q encapsulation, plus allow the
necessary vlan ID being carry over the trunk.

For 3640, i've configured the subinterfaces for each of the vlan ID, plus
the 802.1Q encapsulation.

The 4003 switch was using VLAN1 ip address, but the 4003 switch couldn't
ping to the subinterface ip address of VLAN1 of 3640 router, vice-versa.

I have configured something similar to this before, but i use ISL instead of

AS5300 with IOS 12.0(7)T

2000-07-02 Thread lee

Hi all, I recently face an issue of AS5300 running with IOS 12.0(7)T. Once I
finish configured the AS5300, everything is running fine(like modem dial
in). If I reset the AS5300, I still use a modem to dial in to the AS5300 and
get the ip address(from the ip pool). But the dial in client can't
communicate with the AS5300 anymore eventhough you got the ip assigned by
the AS5300.

If I erased the configuration on AS5300, and reapply the same configuration
to the AS5300, then it's work again.

Does anyone come across this issue before
I think the issue is due to the IOS bug, anyone agree ???

regards,
lee

Hi all, I have a Cat4003 & 3640, i'm trying to configure 802.1q

make it working, but i hope someone can tell whether i have configure it
rightly.

my configuration for vlan routing for 1,2 & 3 on 3640 router is like :

interface FastEthernet1/0
 ip address 203.92.128.1 255.255.255.224
 no ip directed-broadcast
!
interface FastEthernet1/0.2
 encapsulation dot1Q 2
 ip address 203.92.128.193 255.255.255.248
 no ip directed-broadcast
!
interface FastEthernet1/0.3
 encapsulation dot1Q 3
 ip address 203.92.128.130 255.255.255.192
 no ip directed-broadcast

Hope someone can give me some idea on 802.1q vlan routing configuration.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you need a CCO login id for download the IOS provided your id has the
authorization to download the IOS.

Router question [7:71191]

2003-06-23 Thread Lee
Hello Group,

I want to beef up my 4500M+ to 16MB Flash so I can run 12.2 code on it...

Under the "show version" (as below), I see 2 different flash:

4096K bytes of processor board System flash (Read/Write)
4096K bytes of processor board Boot flash (Read/Write)

How does the 4500M+ works? Does it mean that I will need to have both the
System Flash & Boot Flash up to 16MB? If so, does anyone where I can find
some?

And if I need to find them, are they just called?

4500M System Flash

AND
4500M Boot Flash

Thanks so much for the help in advance,

Regards,

Hunt

I got the following question from COLT, but I'm not sure whether it's
answer is correct...

Which Cisco IOS command identifies the router CPU usage in your network

A)  trace
B)  show buffers
C)  show interface
D)  show processes

My answer is D but COLT said it should be C.  Any help would be greatly

Subnet questions

2001-02-03 Thread Hunt Lee

I have three subnet / route summarization questions but I don't
understand the answer, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Q1)    Choose the appropriate classless network address and broadcast
address for the IP address 10.6.38.50 with a subnet mask of
255.255.240.0

A)    10.6.38.49 and 10.6.38.62

B)    10.6.32.0 and 10.6.47.255

C)    10.6.38.0 and 10.6.38.255

D)    10.0.0.0 and 10.255.255.255

Answer is B.

Q2)    Given a classless route summarization of 72.8.0.0 /13.  Which IP
address fall into this scope?

A)    72.15.36.8

B)    72.13.1.1

C)    72.8.20.10

D)    72.7.200.100

E)    72.16.7.4

F)    72.40.1.8

Answer is A, B & C - why isn't E the ansewr as well?

Q3)    When using classless supernetting, which route best summarizes
the following networks?

192.168.9.0
192.168.10.0
192.168.11.0
192.168.12.0

A)    192.168.0.9 / 20

B)    192.168.0.0 / 16

C)    192.168.9.0 / 22

D)    192.168.8.0 / 21

I thought D is the answer, but the answer is C.

P.S.  Is there anywhere I can get more practice on these type of
questions?

Proxy services question

2001-02-06 Thread Hunt Lee

I have two questions from COLT that I don't understand.  Any help is
greatly appreciated.

Q1)    Why should you implement proxy services on a Cisco Network?

A)    to provide a basic level of security

B)    to provide resource discovery on serverless LANs

C)    to protect the integrity of network data traveling between peers.

D)    to manage the varying demands applications put on the network.

I thought the answer is B, but the answer is A.

Q2)    Which two types of networks in CiscoWorks Blue designed to
manage?

A)    Small business networks, complex LAN switched networks

B)    Data link switching networks, advanced peer-to-peer networks

C)    Remote source-route bridging networks, complex LAN switched
networks.

D)    Complex LAN switched networks, Microsoft Windows NT based
networks.

I thought the answer is C, but the answer is B.

RE: Windows 2000 sniffer

2001-02-12 Thread adam lee

I believe 4.6 works for win2k.

Now, with that said, do you have a supported card that will let you see all
of the captured frames? The list of adapters is pretty small.

EtherPeek 4.1 works on Win2K also. Coming from a Mac background I've always
been quite "snobbish" about Etherpeek. However I had a chance to play with
SnifferPro4.5 for a few days last week (a friend works at a place with a
much larger budget than I get) and have to say that it's decoders are better
than EtherPeek.

Now if only SnifferPro would show the packets as they capture them (someting
that it's predecessor NetXray had, I believe) I would be truly converted.
Seeing packets as them come on the wire (rather than having to stop to
decode them) has helped me with problems in the past

There is also a large price difference also Plus SnifferPro has hardware
capture devices for just about every transport possible.

This would be the out of subject but I need your help.
We've been trying to setup network monitoring systems.
I tried to find what is the most important to check on external network.
Company has more than 20 datacenters worldwide.
Is there any white paper that explain in detail?
Thank you.

Frame relay lab problem - need help

2001-02-21 Thread Alex Lee

Hi group,

Tried to do Lab #9 (page 183 of All-in-one CCIE Lab Study guide). I was
using a 4500 as frame relay switch and two 2501.

Every 'Sh' command output were basically same as the book. The only
exception is 'Sh frame map' on each of the two routers (RouterA & RouterB).

RouterA#sh frame map
Serial0 : ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 100<0x64,0x1840>
broadcast,
CISCO, status defined, active

RouterB#sh frame map
Serial0 : ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 101<0x65,0x1850>
broadcast,
CISCO, status defined, active

I could not ping either. Apparently the inverse arp is not working. I check
my config on the routers many times. What have I missed ? Can someone in the
group help me with this ? Thanks.

Re: Another Frame-relay issue..

2001-03-02 Thread Alex Lee

This happens to me in frame-relay lab. Apparently the inverse arp does not
function the way it should in lab. Right now I always do 'copy run start',
then 'reload' on all lab routers to make sure that the inverse arp and
what-not work as it should.

In a recent actual frame relay implementation between two sites, we had to
config the lmi type at one site in order to bring up frame-relay connection.
We were using 1720 with v. 12.1(1) at both sites.

PIX 515 Firewall problems

2001-03-14 Thread Alex Lee

Group,

We have a PIX 515 for a year now. There is one recurring problem which we
still cannot resolve. We opened case and talked to TAC at least two times.
Each time we were told to upgrade the code. We are now running version
5.2(3).

Here is our issue :-

We are using static public IP adddresses on all our servers and computers.
Our subnet is flat. After we installed the PIX we noticed that once in a
while one or two computers could not go out to the interenet. They could do
anything internally. Our work-around to this problem is simply change the
computer's original IP address to another one. Then it worked just fine. A
day later we could give the computer its old IP address and it would work
just great.

We did turn on the debug and saw that the PIX was trying to build an
outgoing tcp connection for the computer which was having problem. This
particular outgoing connection was never established.

Can anyone out there shed some light ?

1. What is the line code violation ?
2. What can cause this problem?
3. How can I fix this one ?

Thank you in advance.

2524 Flash memory upgrade

2000-12-05 Thread Wonkyu Lee

I have an old Access pro 2524, 2/2, 4M flash.

I tried to upgrade its flash memory without success. When I put a new Flash
memory, 8MRAM, console says, "Wrong Software ..." I think the flash memory
module has an IOS which is not compatible. So my questions is,

How can I delete the IOS in the new flash memory and download any IOS that
I want from the TFTP?
Can I boot the router thru TFTP and delete the IOS image file in the new
flash memory and download a new IOS to the memory?
what i was trying is>

Cont-Break
>b cpa25-imagefile 10.27.9.29

but this didn't work

I cannot boot with my old 4M Flash(with IOS 11.0) so I don't have the
enable mode, so "copy TFTP flash" is not available.

Thanks

PASSED SWITCHING 2.0

2000-12-27 Thread Wonkyu Lee

I passed the Switching 2.0(BCMSN). It was not very hard. If you read two
books or one book twice, you will pass the exam. and don't bother BOSON.
Boson is overkill for the exam. Have a firm understanding on foundational
concepts.
You don't have to dig deep to pass this exam.
VTP advertisement, Spanning tree convergence, Multicasting, CGMP, ICMP,
there was only one CLI question, disappointed :)

Re: Prototype and Pilot

2001-01-05 Thread Wonkyu Lee

HI All,

The place where I'm working at right now has several vlans and trunking.
However, from the beginning, no one turned on the VTP Domain. So whenever I
put a new switch into the existing LAN, and setting up a vlan and trunking,
I have to do it manually. So I'm thinking I'm enabling the VTP domain on
all switches. We have 5500, 5002s, 2900XLs, 3500XLs.

So here goes my question..

What is the procedure to enable the domain feature ?
I know the CLI how to do it, but what should I beware before I do it?
What will happen when the vtp starts to advertising its vlan database to
client switches, which have already all the infos stored in manually?
Some vlans have their name on one switch(ex, TECH), but some don't(vlan13)
and would it be problem ?

Thanks in advance.

2001-01-19 Thread Wonkyu Lee

Hi All,

What I want to accomplish is to download configuration files from running

I got tired of logging into routers and downloading thru telneting.
Can I enable a ftp or TFTP feature for the routers and switches ?

I saw these command lines from CCO and tried to use ftp command in DOS
mode.

~
ip address 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
ip ftp source-interface Ethernet0
ip ftp username wonkyu
ip ftp password password
tftp-server rom alias config.txt
~

here i lost,
I tried to access my router thru ftp and tftp without success.

So my question is,

HOW CAN I Make a batch file which downloads a configuration files ?

TIA,

I'm trying to buy lab time, but it seems like they don't allow enable?

2000-09-15 Thread Sean Lee

Hello,

I'm sorry to disturb list members with this type of question but I'm trying
to buy lab time, but it seems like they don't allow enable mode
configuration? (ccbootcamp) Is it true or is it really stupid question? If
it is true, how much can you benefit from non enable mode? I thought they
allow only one person per rack so that they can alter configurations to
test, will I be sharing this equipments with other people at the same time?

And what are the good places to purchase lab time? Looks like they rent
their equipment for a day, but how do they usually define a day? 24hrs or
8hours.

And again I'm sorry to ask this on the list, I should really ask this to
vendors but I wanted to hear from someone I can really trust and this is
quickest method to get an answer too so.. :-) forgive me.

Thanks,
Sean

My 2501 has code version 11.2 <12>, system image file :c2500-j-1.112-12.bin,

Same thing happened when I tried on another 2501.

Any suggestion ?

Why people prefer ccbootcamp.com??

I'm trying to sign up for lab access,

I check out 3 sites for this, nantech.com, fatkid.com, and ccbootcamp.com

Why are they so popular? Is there special reason why? equipment wise, do
they do more service? why? Which one would you choose? Given the fact that
I can spend about $300 per day?

Need advice from experts :)

RE: Practicing Dentist at 21 years old

2000-10-14 Thread adam lee

There seems to be some confusion about what a
practicing dentist is. My definition is that this
person is trained properly, has a degree from a school
of dentistry, is licensed by the state. Use a little
maturity and common sense when discussing the issue.

Here's a little mail I received from
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

"He said he was a "practicing dentist", he never said
he was a legitimate,
trained, licensed dentist. No doubt he practices in
the street, behind
buildings and in parks. I'm sure he doesn't take
insurance (HMO coverage,
yes) but he is probably priced very low.

This is a profession where certification *does*
matter!"

And being trained at top school of dentistry in the US
and being licensed by the state of california means
nothing to you? You're taking this cert thing too
far!

CCNP, he charges full price and if you have any
coverage, drop on by. As a matter of fact, he works
at clinics too(as most dentists do) so if you have no
insurance you can still drop on by!

Re: can't ping the internet through pix

2001-03-23 Thread Alex Lee

Brent,

I don't know whether your PIX problem is same as ours. But this is what is
happening to us ..

We have a PIX 515. Our PCs, printers, etc, all uses static public IP
addresses. Once in a while, one of our PC users cannot point his internet
browser to any URL, nor can he ping anything outside our subnet. The PC can
be running Win 98, Win NT or Win 95. We work around this problem so far by
changing the PC's ip address to another ip address. On some PCs we don't
even need a re-boot and the computer can go out to internet with no problem.
After a day or so, we change it back to its original ip address and it works
with no problem. We have opened at least three cases with TAC and have
upgraded our PIX software version two times but still cannot find a
permanent fix. I posted our problem to the group a couple of days ago.

If you are using static ip address on your PC maybe you can try to change to
another un-used ip address, or release the current ip address to acquired a
new one if you are using DHCP and see if it works.

COLT questions

2001-03-28 Thread Hunt Lee

I have some questions that I'm stuck on.  .  Any tips or help would be
greatly appreciated.

Q1)  For IBGP, which statement about the next-hop attribute is accurate?

A)    The next-hop is the IP address of the neighbor that sent the
update.

B)    The next-hop is the IP address of the neighbor that is one hop
closer to the destination

C)    The next-hop is the IP address of the neighbor in the adjacent AS
that is closer to the destination.

D)    The next-hop is the IP address of the router that exits this AS.

I chose D.  But COLT said it's wrong.  Or is this for EBGP, or NBMA??

Q2)  For EIGRP rotues to be considered for load balancing and inclusion
into the routing table, the route must be:

A)    Local best metric greater than best metric from next-hop router;
the variance mulitplier times the local best metric is greater than
metric through the same next-hop router.

B)    Local best metric greater than best metric from next-hop router;
the variance mulitplier times the local best metric is greater than
current metric on this router.

C)    Local best metric greater than best metric from next-hop router;
the variance mulitplier times any local metric is greater than metric
advertised by any next-hop router.

D)    Local best metric greater than best metric from next-hop router;
the variance mulitplier times the local best metric is greater than
metric through any next-hop router.

I chose D.  But COLT said it's wrong.  I thought for EIGRP to load
balance, the variance mulitplies the successor > next-hop router's
feasible distance, and the successor has to be greater than the next-hop
router's advertisied distance.

Q3)    Nonbroadcast mulitaccess mode is usually used in a fully meshed
netowrk and simulates a broadcast environment.  How do packets get
delivered to all remote routers?

A)    Packet replication is handled by the Service Provider

B)    The transmitting router sends the packet to its physical neighbor
which copy and flood the packet.

C)    Update packets are sent only once to the mulitcast address
224.0.0.5

D)    The transmitting router replicates the packets for each neighbor.

I chose A, but COLT said it's wrong.  Or is this for point-to-mulitpoint
mode?

Thanks again for your help in advance.

Questions for Next-hop attribute

2001-04-01 Thread Hunt Lee

I'm really confused about the how Next-hop attribute works for IBGP and
EBGP. Can somebody please shed some light on this. Any tips or help
would be greatly appreciated.
