Hello, You can download the supplements from the Cisco site itself. For eg, they have the supplement for BSCN book, which features IS-IS. So download it and use that. The link to the site of course is www.cisco.com and search for the missing topic. As for the exam, I would suggest to definitely print out the course outline first and make sure you have covered all the topics. If you think something is missing in the old book, just get it off the site. There is more material on the site than you would need for the paper. But it is definitely very comprehensive and handy too. I found the Cisco Press and Sybex study guides to be very helpful for completing my CCNP. I also used the Boson test at www.boson.com. They are $40.00 a piece but have been very helpful as well. Hi, I do not know about switching, but for routing, use Building Scalable Cisco Networks from Cisco Press. Also download the IS-IS chapter at cisco web site (search for the free chapter there). Also, buy a set of practice tests you need a lot of practice tests so that the various routing concepts can stick in - this is in case you want to do the exam as soon as possible. Good Luck. Suranjith, You can click on my CCNP link below, and see what I used for CCNA 2.0, BCRAN and BCMSN. As for the order, you need to take the CCNA first. After that, it's kind of your own choice, however, CIT should probably be the last, since it's more or less a smaller summary of all the other exams. I think most people do the BSCN, BCMSN, BCRAN and then CIT - but I waited with the BSCN until now because there wasn't really any good reading material out there when I finished my CCNA 2.0. I'm using both sets. I find that they complement each other well. The prep set is geared more toward the technology itself (classroom material). I always read the Cisco Press first, then counter with skimming the Exam Crams. I'm headed for my 3rd exam in 3 weeks so far the Exam Crams are much much better. In fact- a coworker (who is a big Cisco Press proponent) made the comment after taking BCRAN last night, if he'd used the Exam Cram on more than just the last day of study he would have scored in the 900's. Your scenario is a little different... If you are a new CCNA new to the field, then all the CCNP exams will be a stretch for you. Keep in mind, CCNP's with no working knowledge have a real tough time (tougher than CCNA's). I work in government contracting with a lot of paper CCNP's ( CCIE's with very little practical experience). When your experience is not @ your cert. level, contractor companies will pay you less (70% of scale) a bill you 100% of wage (I see some CCNP's @ 60K government paying just under 150K + benefits money). There are worse ways to start, but it is not a crime to bounce around for a year to get your feet wet. I've bounced around for almost 2 years am finding the exams much easier than the first time I tried to read the ACRC. Also CCNA's with real experience (can do the job) do make 75 to 100K. I'm not saying it's smart test this theory, but you will not be pigeon holed for taking things @ respectable pace. These are life-time decisions not of us are going to turn into pumpkins :o) All the best... I just want to share my good news, 808 on BCRAN. I will take CIT next to complete the CCNP! I have Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting by Chappel and Farkas. Is there another book that would work for CIT and help with the CCIE written as well? My plan is to begin immediately after CCNP to start the track to the CCIE. From what I have read on the board I would think the Caslow book might be helpfull with CIT. Which I think is to much information. Were the case studys on the CCDA test similar to any that you had seen before? After the CCDA, I plan to pursue the CCNP, CCDP. Because your contribution of 'send me free stuff too' is not something that enriches the group nor helps one reach their goal of completing their cisco certifications. There are plenty of repositories of Cisco information across the net for you to peruse. Once the list degenerates into 'send me free stuff too' then it is no longer useful. Most everyone on this list is choosing to work hard, search the web for the information they need, making a fiscal investment for the equipment and sacrificing their time and lives to achieve these certifications. To have their time wasted with your lazy 'send me free stuff too' request is the pinacle of everything this list does not stand for. Try to stay focused in your response next time also. But I would hope that such an approach doesn't appeal to many, as it's both unethical and stupid -- stupid in that it's a way to kill off the program. Ripping off copyrighted materials is also unethical and stupid. Originally, I negotiated with Cisco Press for my first couple of books, but cancelled the contract due to some (no longer requested) Cisco requirements that the text essentially be free to anyone with a Smartnet contract, as well as some other provisions that simply didn't make it financially viable. If, as an author and certification study provider, I can make no money at it, I'm not going to produce more materials. There are hundreds of websites with information that you need to pass the tests, cisco's being the largest. There are also some central repositories, such as certificationzone or networkstudyguides which charge a nominal fee to cover the expense. There are also some free one's. The bottom line is its all out there and one person can do a web search as easy another another to find it. Being resourceful is one of the most important qualities of being a Cisco professional. If you want illegal software and cracks for pirated software ~~ go to crack sites. If you want book reviews ~~ go to Amazon.com (their reveiws are awesome) If you want to learn about real world scenarios, can't figure something out, want to expand upon certification topics, need help understanding areas, stuff like that the groupstudy list is great. There are a bunch of really awesome resources here! I would suggest for certifications, buy the books and read them. If you don't understand something, try to research it, and if you still can't figure it out write to the list. That way atleast you can approach the list and get the most out of it. I enjoy reading other peoples e-mails. You can see real world issues and their fix (which can often prove extremely usefull when you encounter the same issue). For what it's worth that's my 2 cents. Just want to put in a couple words on a topic I feel passionate about. If people are converting copyrighted books to PDF and giving them away or selling them, that's illegal, unethical, and stupid. Obviously the publishing industry needs to come up with ways to get books to people in formats other than paper, at prices that are affordable around the world, not just in wealthy Silicon Valley. However, the publishing industry will not be able to innovate if people don't pay for what they use. Also, as Howard says, authors will stop creating works if they can't make money on them. So, you're just screwing yourselves when you obtain illegal copies of books, movies, and yes, even music. I think the mentality that it's OK to steal comes from young people who haven't yet created anything. I help out in our local high school in computer classes. I see the light bulbs go on when I tell my kids, "Ten years from now, it may be you creating that cool, new game or video or software application. And you may have spent years and tons of money to produce it. How will you feel if people steal it instead of paying for it?" Usually the kids think about that for a while and see my point. One kid told me, "I'm not going to create anything. I just want to be a computer technician." That was the saddest thing I've heard. Actually I'm one of the people that would much -prefer- to read a PDF over a book. If I purchase a technical book that has the entire text in PDF format, the only time I actually open the book itself is to get at the CD. There are obvious piracy problems when the contents of a $50 book are available as a PDF, which is a little disappointing. Seeing as I work for a video game publisher I see quite clearly how damaging piracy is to a publisher. Think of some of the heftier Cisco Press books from the CCIE development series. I'd gladly pay $60 for a complete PDF I can read anywhere and keep as reference anywhere instead of paying $60 to have to lug a 20 lb book around! Call me crazy, but using a CD-R as opposed to renting a U-haul to transport my library from home to the office is a bit more appealing. If people are converting copyrighted books to PDF and giving them away or selling them, that's illegal, unethical, and stupid. Obviously the publishing industry needs to come up with ways to get books to people in formats other than paper, at prices that are affordable around the world, not just in wealthy Silicon Valley. However, the publishing industry will not be able to innovate if people don't pay for what they use. Also, as Howard says, authors will stop creating works if they can't make money on them. So, you're just screwing yourselves when you obtain illegal copies of books, movies, and yes, even music. I think the mentality that it's OK to steal comes from young people who haven't yet created anything. I help out in our local high school in computer classes. I see the light bulbs go on when I tell my kids, "Ten years from now, it may be you creating that cool, new game or video or software application. And you may have spent years and tons of money to produce it. How will you feel if people steal it instead of paying for it?" Usually the kids think about that for a while and see my point. One kid told me, "I'm not going to create anything. I just want to be a computer technician." That was the saddest thing I've heard. I think it's good that we use this list every so often to remind people that some resources are not free. Since the majority of the CCNP tests are going to be retired at the end of July, are there any new books slated to be published in the very near future? I noticed a new CLSC replacement on Amazon, but that was the only one. Does Cisco Press have the new books for CCNP 2.0? Thanks, Timothy J.
