[Cooker] Panoramix Pb with language select
Hi there, Problem or ..? When I install from the last gi_network.img, at first step: Select your language: I click on french I see a box with: " Wanring no warranty, be carfull it's gonna explose ytou romcpature" (Sic) " AccepterRefuser" and whatever my choice, result is the same: "install exited abnormally -- received signal 11" "sending termination signals done" "sending kill signals... done" "" "" "you may safely reboot your system" OK I reboot and try another language choice, the default: "english", the warning box come, I click on Accept, and Can continue... OK, "Ctrl-Alt-F1" just for info... "Sun Oct 17 10:57:58 1999 Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported" "by C library at /usr/bin/perl-install/install_steps-graphical.pm line 243" It's this normal ? Sorry if this reply looks funny. Niether kmial nor netscape work so I'm writing this from pine. All netscape says is segfault and kmail can't run due to missing pixmaps. Ran down the problem. kdelibs 1.1.2-8mdk won't install. As a matter of fact 2.3 has ppp compiled in and i can use my modem just fine with it but it was causing my hard drive to read full when i had 800 and something megs free. Also when the hard drive started to read full kmial dumped all of my old cooker emails. Are these kept anywere some of them I was keeping. [Cooker] Panoramix install work-around
I managed to install with Panoramix by NOT activating the "Go" button in "Choose packages to install" after my selections. I used the "Install system" in the menu and it proceeded. I am having problems with bootdisk and lilo, but will retry with new download tonight.

[Cooker] Panoramix - URGENT
I have an urgent question, the boot img runs the old instalation and the readme file says nothing about Panoramix !!! On Mandrake website there is no info about this and I don't want trash some other 700 MB CD just for trying. The Panoramix boot img is gi_xxx ? You have to configure the mouse with the keyboard before touching the mouse. [Cooker] Panoramix network install fail
Hi, I just upload this morning the latest panoramix install. But it fail with the network install (nfs install) when it attempt to mount the diretory where resid the Cooker files from my server. Messages in F4 console complains about an AF_INET error from the udp msg and RPC complains with "sndmsg returned error 22" error message. What's happen ? My system is a clone PentiumPro @ 200 Mhz with a 3c509 ethernet card. I guess they will consider you volenteering for it (g) Pixel, I have some files as used in Thailand to use with Redhat as they seem to consider standard Thai setup a bit crude due to deviating characters, words joined together etc etc. I cannot read it anyway but if you want me to attach those directly to you somewhere to look at in case it is usable for a future cooker let me know. Sounds good. For Mandrake to be successful in attracting the beginners, it must take on the role of "sys admin" in order to get them going. Now the framebuffer is used with the FBDev X server. But VGA16 is still there for older cards :) So now every video card should be handled! I also added DDC detection of pnp monitors (taken from lorax ;-) ext2resizing is also there. well quite quickly added, but it's there... Some of the packages, particurlarly those which can not be deselected are missing help information. Perhaps it is because I can't deselect them that I can't figure out how to get the required packages to display their info/description. Or perhaps this text hasn't been written. In either case, it'd be nice to see the Package Info for all packages, and if no package information is available, then I'd like to see a message like: "No Package Information Available"

After getting through the full panoramix driven install and booting straight to X, I couldn't execute most of the icons located on the desktop. Clicking on Netscape did nothing. Linuxconf complained "Couldn't run kdesu" gimp and Mandrake were similar.

Possibly related: during the install, I had problems with having a partition that spanned the 1024th cylinder. And ended up skipping the install of the bootloader and just creating a startup disk. The reason why I use a QWERTY keyboard is because I learned myself to touch type on a commodore 64. In all the companies I have seen already PC's had AZERTY keyboards. Now I work in a training center and not even 1 percent of the Flemish people comes and asks for a QWERTY keyboard, whereas the Dutch always ask for an other keyboard. So there are companies where QWERTY is used, but they are very few. Of course there are individuals like me who prefer QWERTY as well, but you can't say they are a majority. available now, or very soon.
The list of supported keyboards is the one from the xmodmap files
of the gkbd applet of Gnome, which are mainly Xmodmaps I'd collected
along the years (most of them come from taking the layout showed on my
last MS-DOS manual, when I was still on the dark side, and DOS still
came with usefull manuals).

keyboards as used by Toshiba in its laptops for example.

All I an tell you here is that acc to our japanese customers what they
type seems to be very easy to do on an English/USA keyboard.
I asked that as well as we sold a few multibooting
Japanese/English/Thai systems and essentially acc to them it wasnt
worth it getting a japanese keyboard. They seem to type more or less
the way it sounds with ABC letters and out pops japanese... So I was
told!
On the other hand I would PROBABLY be able to get you a normal PC keyboard
layout if that helps. Asuming Ms got it in one of their japanese
manuals.
if a MS keyboard file for Japanese helps, just let me know.
I happen to have those...
By the way there are 2 types of keyboards in Thailand. But I have
never seen one of them...

I just rebooted after having a look at panoramix. When I got into the graphical part of panoramix it asked me again for my scsi card even though the txt version asked the same thing. Then I get into disk druid. And it can only see the partitions on my first harddisk. The other 2 harddisks where 'empty' (but as I am now in linux running of sdb I guess it is wrong :) ). Anyhow as I didn't wanna repartition everything I rebooted the machine. (I have some partitions on my hdb that I don't wanna fuck up) and what do I notice.. DiskDruid has fucked up my ext2 partition it could see on sda. And that was the only ext2 partition that I definetly didn't wanna loose as it contains my mirror of mandrake.. My scsi setup is like this.. AHA 2940u2w id:0 9.1 gb lvd drive on the lvd connector id:1 9.1 gb lvd drive on the lvd connector (active terminator) id:2 9.1 gb u2 drive on the u2 connector (terminated) AHA 2940uw id:4 Tandberg SLR5 (streamer) id:5 Plextor R820TI (cdr) Wouldn't it be wise to have the disk druid not to write ANYTHING on the disks until I click something like 'done' or 'apply'?? And howcome it didn't detect the partitions on sdb and sdc?? Hi, I just wanted to mention that I also had the new GUI disk partition thing completely hose my partition table. I have two IDE drives. My second drive had a SuSE install with a bunch of partitions, and one spare where I figured I would just put the cooker root, then I could mount my homedir. Anyway, the reason I'm able to report this problem rather than screwing around re-installing my system is because I found a wonderful tool called rescuept. This great little thing let me manually rebuild my partition table and get my SuSE back (along with all my MP3s and home directory!!) All I did was boot with the latest hd image (with the cooker distribution on another drive which thankfully didn't get hosed). I chose expert mode, no scsi. When the partition tool came up, all I did was hit "done" because I didn't want to do any partitioning (I already had my partitions setup, thank you very much!) Anway, I think I'll wait a few days before I try this again. :) Chris
