BTW it manage only binary, no src.rpm because I rsync src.rpm from mandrake.

Add to this cooker had lot of issue with rpm, the requires/provides naming
about devel changed, so lot of devel package was not installable without
--no-deps. During i586 was rebuild to fix, my powerbook was with me on rmll
(in Metz).

Some package failed on build, but instead silently failed, process enter in a
freeze mode and never terminate. I have to check if the powerbook is still
working, if not, killing the process, imagine this happend the evening, all
the night is waste.

Normally, he is building 24 hours a day.

Things will be better now I hope, cooker will be freeze soon.

NO !!

package are build as ppc, %configure and % make macros define build for ppc,
look the perl, gcc path, ect... all those spec refer to %_target_cpu.

And miss a point, %_host_cpu is the the computer, but you can cross compil,
%_target_cpu is changed for this.

Look to your rpmrc, maybe you'll find why those var differents.

It is better to use %_target_cpu:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] olivier]$ rpm --eval %_target_cpu
sparc

here on sparc, because on compatible architecture you can get the wrong value:
on sparc, we build rpm for sparc and sparc64, %_target_cpu is define to sparc,
but I wonder %_host_cpu is sparc64 on some computer.

Another mistake can appear if you try to cross-compile the rpm, aka build on a
computer for another arch.

Well after test I get the reverse:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] nanardon]$ rpm --eval %_host_cpu
sparc
[EMAIL PROTECTED] nanardon]$ rpm --eval %_target_cpu
sparc64

Without buildarchtranslate in ~/.rpmrc, strange, strange.

This CD is something like install CD n°0, you put in drive instead official

Don't know if it is perl or glibc which need a fix.

perl-5.8.0-17mdk

perl: relocation error: perl: symbol __register_atfork, version GLIBC_2.3.2

[root@orion root]# rpm -q glibc

Yes, you can, but you have follow devel to find hours when cooker-ppc is
stable for you.

An other way, mine, is running cooker in a chroot, you able to run some
programs for testing, and rebuild package.

A stable i586 won't say ppc cooker will be, because poeple fix problem for

I have two annoucement to do here:

- - first, I recommend to you to looking Mandrake official's Mirror. Last week,
I have upload a lot ppc cooker packages. Some packages are new since 8.2, a
lot are update now. I can't rebuild all at time but work are in progress.

- - the second point is to inform you some plf packages are avalaible for your
ppc computer. I maintain this branch and will try to maintain both 8.2 and
cooker version. Actually all packages are in cooker tree. It should works on
8.2. For all problem, send me a mail directly, or to the plf-discuss mailing
list.
Take a look to http://plf.zarb.org/, the urpmi setup is same for all arches.

Have a nice install.

After looking the glibc specfile:

1) It need to be update, actually for ppc, it requires gcc-2.96. I think we
can say ppc cooker is ready to test gcc-3*.

2) I saw for alpha there are a provide to ld.so.2, perharps solution to my
problem is a provide to ld.so.1 for ppc ??

ld.so.1 seem to be missing

2002-06-09 Thread Olivier Thauvin

Hi all

I have a very strange answer of urpmi during a chroot setup on my titanium:

First: I setup my chroot with chroot-install install and I choose to setup it
with the cooker tree. Install aborted because perl-URPM is missing. After
check, this package is present in cooker tree. Perhaps synthethis* need to be
rebuild.

Second: I decide to install a fresh 8.2 on my chroot. All does not work fine
but install is enought to start, I can login in the chroot, install manually
urpmi, ssh, and all usually stuff.
I setup urpmi on my cooker mirror and start to update to cooker (urpmi --auto
- --autoselect). All binary complain me about ld.so.1. This file come from with
glibc. I force install of glibc (rpm -Uvh --nodeps) and I had a big surpise:

/lib/ld.so.1 is a link to ld-so-2.4.4.so, but actually glibc is 2.2.5 and it
install ld.so-2.4.5.so. I have fix manually, but my rpm database is still
broken about ld.so.1.

I really do not understand what happend with this package. I am looking for
by rebuilding cooker glibc.

cooker install

Be quiet, I am working on a chrooted-install but there are problems with
missing libraries:

[root@orion lib]# rpm -qf /lib/ld.so.1
glibc-2.2.4-25mdk
on my 8.2 ppc, this file is missing when upgrade to cooker, fixed by symlink
it to /lib/ld-2.2.5.so

[nanardon@virgo devel SPECS]$ rpm -qf /lib/libgcc_s.so.1
libgcc3.1-3.1-0.7mdk
On my cooker 8.2 x86, this file is also missing when upgrade from 8.2ppc to
cooker. This file need by perl, actually my urpmi doesn't work !

Can you upload gcc3.* for ppc ?

Thanks !

David: do you remember ? On 8.2 Beta2, I asked on the cooker list for ppc
about a problem to build package, you answered me to do cd /usr/lib/rpm; ln
- -s ppc-mandrake-linux ppcpseries-linux. This solved the problem.

I just reinstall my titanium, also for build contrib and plf packages, with
the 8.2. I have the same problem and same solution. Do you any idea why I

Stew, my idea is
- - devellop and test rpm for ppc on my machine (faster to work by ssh, 500Mhz
and 256 Mo Ram)
- - doing last check and rebuild on official mdk machine (yours, this can be
slow)

After I transfert the file on compil.mandrake.org and I use ftpcontrib to
upload.

If you agree to this, I think all is ok. After we (you) have only to define
what I can or can't do, of course.

exactly the same distrib on all machine (or about, some package cannot be use
on all arch).
For example this afternoon, I hear music with icecast, but the encodage was
made by my macintosh. It is easy to configure, it is the same file ! There a
lot of application can run as this, and a Mac as http server is hard to
attack with pc virus.
And perhaps we will can use the same auto_inst.cfg ;-)

Now it is libogg0-devel... that I can't found.

Are you sure that all can be take on only 2 cds?

My answer is yes for all.

I think it should be OK. But I know you have same Titanium because I saw it

I hope this help you.

It is a fresh install with mke2fs on '/' before installing. I have only a /

Before this install I had a Mdk 8.0 and update with the cooker tree and urpmi

%make failed and beta2 report

I am test for rebuild some package for ppc cooker, I have install the beta2
ppc from only the 1st CD:

1) After install, when I want install a forget package, it claim me the 2nd
CD, If urpmi say me "package not found" I can understand, but during install
I have said I have only the 1st CD, why it want the second if I haven't?

2) The keyboard is not ok for the four key at the with french
keyboard.

3) Please, can you move am-utils and libamu2 to the first CD, I think this is
more important that some other.

4) The most important, I am rebuilding some plf package for ppc, but the make
failed if %make is invoked in spec file. The make directive work properly but
I think this is a bad optmisation flag but I can't help you for that. I have
just the message "fg, no job running".

5) I think you know the problem, XFree does not work properly with rage128,
this problem appear in first beta for x86 and is corrected now. ( I have a
rage 128 on my athlon and my ppc is a titanium with rage 128, in fact, in 4

Yes, this name is as want, shortly is recommand because you use it for define
want source you update with urpmi.update, for exemple I have two source for
my package:

hdlist.cooker.cz
hdlist.plf.cz

cooker and plf (this exemple come from an i586 but I'am working to make ppc
package on plf).

To reflect change on plf on my urpmi I do:
urpmi.update plf.

Good install.

I know David Baudens is a ppc developer in Paris, but I really don't
understand policy with other arch than x86 !
One of my question is why do not make ppc distro in the same time with x86
with the same drakx and same package ?

If someone of mandrakesoft can answer me, I'm very interest !

Why I translate if all answer in French. Agh, cooker is only in english.
And at time, the expert don't speak french (Stew). It is a good idea to
answer but if the expert, who have a full access to source code, can't
understand you, what help can you have ?

Nop none is good, for booting on mac from CD, the iso image must be in HFS
and the bootloader had a special attribut. But I think she doesn't download
the source tree, but the Beta1 iso's image and none operations is need to do
a bootable CD for Mac. All is done.

Question: After download from PC the iso's image and burning you can't boot.

There no problem to do that and no specific action need, I haven't CD burner
on my Mac (Titanium G4 with DVD) and I burned the images on CDRW on my other
pentium laptop. It is not the burner that say if the CD will be bootable or
not but only the iso files.

urpmi --auto-select and missing package

2002-03-07 Thread Olivier Thauvin

I see on my mirror that the cooker ppc tree differ from x86 and SRPMS also.

Some packages in contrib exist as binaries for ppc but not in x86 and SRPMS,
and now when I do urpmi --autoselect iot say me:

error: failed dependencies:
drakfloppy >= 0.43-8mdk is needed by drakconf-0.96-10mdk
lha is needed by kdeutils-2.2.2-23mdk

But none of this package exist !

Please, I know the i586 8.2 will be release soon but don't forget ppc user!

This point is OK, now I can select the good resolution but I have always the
message when I want test "r128 Can't read VBIOS". I test in init 3 without X
server running but I have the same problem.
One time, I thinks drakx do not keep my screen selection, always it purpose
me the powerbook 1024x768. When I want exist I read the configuration I have
do, all seems ok, and I'll try to keeping them but X do not start.

I'll send you XFree log.

If you need more, ask me.

I wait, also, the Mandrake 8.2 ppc is not for tomorrow, I think all works for

Yep:
[root@orion RPMS]# grep PowerBook /usr/share/ldetect-lst/MonitorsDB
Apple; TiPowerBook 1152x768; 0; 30.0-100.0; 50.0-160.0

[root@orion RPMS]# rpm -qa | grep ldet
ldetect-lst-0.1.3-5mdk
ldetect-0.2.5-1mdk

I can select my screen (TiPowerbook) but I can't select this specific
resolution, I have 800x600, 1024x768 and 1152x864. My screen is correctly

Xfree Configuration

2002-02-24 Thread Olivier Thauvin

I installed Beta1 on ppc my titanium and I have setup my screen with its full
resolution: 1152x768. I have two problem with drakxconf

1st) DrakX dont purpose this resolution, This was possible with the Mdk 8.0
2nd) When I choose another config and I want test, I hace this message:
(EE) R128(0) Cannot read V_BIOS (5), try to change some parameters.

But I changed nothing, I have just keep the resolution.

When I quit and restart X server, all work fine.

And other question ?
When do you mirror the drakx install on mirror and you do you plan to keep
the Mdk ppc on mirror for net-install as i586.

Thanks a lot.

I've search and find, Thanks. I do that with the i586 binary, beacause my

O K ! I thought this file are update on the mirror... That is explication of
all my problems, When I mirror I see the download of this file and really I
thought it is a update. Can write me the way for regenerate this or where I
can find the procedure, Of I prefere regenerate for doing a network and lot
recreate the ISO files.
Very Thanks ! After this solution, I'll go to sleep ! I say you tomorrow if
it works ;-)

But I thinks as i586 source tree, it is good to maintain all file at time,
tomorrow at work, I prefere install directly from mirror because my
laboratory has a good network but my personnel server has only 12 ko/s of
upload.

Good night.

I haven't set nothing, I do all as newbie, exactly for this evening I have
burn the 1st CDROM of bêta 1, put it in the dvdrom, launch my laptop, a
screen appear to ask me what type of install I want to do, I select FTP or
NFS and putting the information of my serveur. What is the default ramdisk
size ?

Exactly for Reiser, I have install my / as ext2 and reformat /home on reiser
after the installation.

I offer you two other problems, I like you Stew and I know you like ppc's
problems

1) I have do three network install it can't install some perl package, the
fisrt time I think it is because the mirroring is in progresse, but during
all install it is the same package.

2) After reboot, it say me that I use devfs but devfsd is not install, It
want I setup my boot loader with devfs=nomount. During all network install I
have this problem but not from the CD bêta 1. If I reboot with devfs=nomount,
the system start correctly.

I have a very stupid idea, but one idea, is it possible that
carroll.cac.psu.edu's mirror mismatch with your tree source that you use for
test ? I think you use your internaly mirror for gain speed, as me, tomorrow
I take my titanium with me at works, we have a good bandwith, I can test
directly from official mirror, can you test from official mirror to agree or
disagree my opinion ?

Thanks, here is later, I work tomorrow.

OK ! I have test CTRL+ALT (and fn on my titanium), Maj+CTRL but not
Command+Ctrl, thanks.

I can now report to you the message from console:

Step `doPartitionDisks' finished
Formating device hda15 (type Jou... FS: ext3)
running: mke2fs -j /dev/hda15
running: tune2fs -c0 -i0 /dev/hda15

Of course all /dev/hdaxx exists !
It is the same things with reiserfs but there are no problem with ext2. I
will use it for this install and convert my / after the install.

Install-net ppc

2002-02-21 Thread Olivier Thauvin

Mandrake Linux Cooker-ppc 20020221 18:51
Titanium G4 500 Mhz / 20 Go HD / 256 Mo RAM

I'have do a net install and here a report of problems, thanks to listenners

1) I select net install my network card are not automactilly detect (gmac),
but when I install from the CD, when it is time for the net configuration,
the net device is correctly detect and do not need any intervention to setup
the module. Is it normal ? I haven't do that with the 8.0.

And for a net device I see all module, include SCSI, USB...

2) Atfer setup the partitionning, DrakX can't mount /dev/hda15, no such
device, this does appear when I install from de CD. I think this is a bug
from 8.0, we can't setup only the hda1 to about hda12 exist.

I can't do more by this way and I can't take a text console to do a diagnostic

Stew, I think we have a lot of works to best config for all machintosh, when
the first new titanium appear at my works and I see the 8.0 doesn't works, I
launched MacOs on mine and the new, I saw on mine ATY-rev3 and on the second
ATY-rev6, this two card are very different, one Mach64 against a Radeon, it
is not the same processor, not only a new revision.

There is a last test that I need to do, I remember in the 8.0, when we create
the partitions, diskdrak allow to create the / partition before the
bootstrap, but yaboot need the bootstrap is before on the disk. This is a
problem for newbie because all the install seem correct but there are no
warning and after the install you can't boot linux.
I will test this tomorrow because it is later and this need I crash my linux
partition, but think about that.

Thank's.

install beta1-iso report

2002-02-20 Thread Olivier Thauvin

I have do this install on a G4 powerbook with 256 Mo RAM with only the 1st
CDrom, the 2nd not already mirror but in way.

1) During install I choose to install samba in Network server, It want to
install it it ask me to install xinetd. Are you sure samba need xinetd ?
But Proftpd does not need xinetd, I checked it before.

2) Keyboard always in english during the install

3) I have use only the first Cd, when I want setup a printer in the box name
"Résumé", it cannot install the foomatic package: error is "not found"

4) During the yaboot setup, why is it imossible to choose another label as
darwin, macos or macosx ?

5) Xfree setup, I have select Tipoxerbook as screen but there the 1152x768

Yes, you can ask to the maintener of this packages, I think he has a good
reason to do this choice.

But this is just a question, of when I need it on a x86, I install the
source, edit the .spec and rebuild the binary.

Thanks a lot.

limitation to ppc

2002-02-02 Thread Olivier Thauvin

In some ppc utils as pmac, hfsutils, hfsplus...

%define namehfsutils
%define version 3.2.6
%define release 3mdk

Summary:Tools for reading and writing Macintosh HFS volumes
Name:   %{name}
Version:%{version}
Release:%{release}

Source: %{name}-%{version}.tar.bz2

BuildRoot: %{_tmppath}/%{name}-buildroot
Copyright: GPL
Group: File tools
ExclusiveArch:ppc

Why limit this packages to ppc ? Often I need in x86 when i want work on
macos disk or cdrom image iso.

Thanks.

At the linux-expo, I sawn a develloper who work on the mandrake ppc. I say me
the cooker ppc can run for some test but i have a little problem: I haven't a
mac for create the iso cdrom image. I have only a server with an amd K6.

But he say me I can create image iso on my x86 server. I have test, but your
scrit want to run the ppc perl and rpm*.so binaries.

My machine is a Titanum G4 500 and I can't boot from floppy.

How can I create the ISO file for testing cooker.

I'm very interesting to help the develpement off the ppc-cooker and
accelerate as possible the 8.2 ppc.

Re: kernel upgrade failures (long reading)

2002-02-01 Thread Olivier Thauvin

It's very strange.

I installed the Mdk ppc 8.0 on 3 machines, G3 and G4, I had none off problem
you have.

I had select Reiserfs as filesystem (I don't remember if ext3 was available).

For the scsi card, I'll know that some driver originally for x86 was not
available on ppc.
