Everything you wanted to know about Skull and Bones but were afraid to ask
Three threads of American social history -- espionage, drug smuggling and
secret societies -- intertwine into one.
Elihu Yale was born near Boston, educated in London, and served with the
British East India Company, eventually becoming governor of Fort Saint George,
Madras, in 1687. He amassed a great fortune from trade and returned to England
in 1699. Yale became known as quite a philanthropist; upon receiving a request
from the Collegiate School in Connecticut, he sent a donation and a gift of
books. After subsequent bequests, Cotton Mather suggested the school be named
Yale College, in 1718.
A statue of Nathan Hale stands on Old Campus at Yale University. There is a
copy of that statue in front of the CIA's headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
Yet another stands in front of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts
(where George H.W. Bush ('48) went to prep school and joined a secret society
at age twelve).
Nathan Hale, along with three other Yale graduates, was a member of the
"Culper Ring," one of America's first intelligence operations. Established by
George Washington, it was successful throughout the Revolutionary War. Nathan
was the only operative to be ferreted out by the British, and after speaking
his famous regrets, he was hanged in 1776. Ever since the founding of the
Republic, the relationship between Yale and the "Intelligence Community" has
been unique.
In 1823, Samuel Russell established Russell and Company for the purpose of
acquiring opium in Turkey and smuggling it to China. Russell and Company
bought out the Perkins (Boston) syndicate in 1830 and moved the primary center
of American opium smuggling to Connecticut. Many of the great American and
European fortunes were built on the "China"(opium) trade.
One of Russell and Company's Chief of Operations in Canton was Warren Delano,
Jr., grandfather of Franklin Roosevelt. Other Russell partners included John
Cleve Green (who financed Princeton), Abiel Low (who financed construction of
Columbia), Joseph Coolidge and the Perkins, Sturgis and Forbes families.
(Coolidge's son organized the United Fruit company, and his grandson,
Archibald C. Coolidge, was a co-founder of the Council on Foreign Relations.)
William Huntington Russell ('33), Samuel's cousin, studied in Germany from
1831-32. Germany was a hotbed of new ideas. The "scientific method" was being
applied to all forms of human endeavor. Prussia, which blamed the defeat of
its forces by Napoleon in 1806 on soldiers only thinking about themselves in
the stress of battle, took the principles set forth by John Locke and Jean
Rosseau and created a new educational system. Johan Fitche, in his Address to
the German People, declared that the children would be taken over by the State
and told what to think and how to think it.
Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel took over Fitche's chair at the University Of
Berlin in 1817, and was a professor there until his death in 1831. Hegel was
the culmination of the German idealistic philosophy school of Immanuel Kant.
To Hegel, our world is a world of reason. The state is Absolute Reason and the
citizen can only become free by worship and obedience to the state. Hegel
called the state the "march of God in the world" and the "final end". This
final end, Hegel said, "has supreme right against the individual, whose
supreme duty is to be a member of the state." Both fascism and communism have
their philosophical roots in Hegellianism. Hegellian philosophy was very much
in vogue during William Russell's time in Germany.
When Russell returned to Yale in 1832, he formed a senior society with
Alphonso Taft ('33). According to information acquired from a break-in to the
"tomb" (the Skull and Bones meeting hall) in 1876, "Bones is a chapter of a
corps in a German University General Russell, its founder, was in Germany
before his Senior Year and formed a warm friendship with a leading member of a
German society. He brought back with him to college, authority to found a
chapter here." So class valedictorian William H. Russell, along with fourteen
others, became the founding members of "The Order of Scull and Bones," later
changed to "The Order of Skull and Bones".
The secretive Order of Skull and Bones exists only at Yale. Fifteen juniors
are "tapped" each year by the seniors to be initiated into next year's group.
Each initiate is given $15,000 and a grandfather clock. Far from being a
campus fun-house, the group is geared more toward the success of its members
in the post-collegiate world.

-Caveat Lector- Thanks RoadsEnd for the info. I still think that there is a fairly significant amount of hooey in some of it, but I have to admit that much of it is fairly well documented. I'm not sure I buy a 'Luciferian' angle to it though. I'm also not sure that 'getting in early, sizing it up and spending lots of money' qualifies as a 'conspiracy' per se. Seems like good business sense. Look at Microsoft. One question for you is this.. Does the fact that an organization was once a manipulative organizational 'conspiracy' (such as the Masons seem to have been, as well as Skull and Bones) mean that they will always be a secret 'conspiracy' organization? Organizations, being made up of people, tend to evolve over time, and I feel that it is quite possible that over generations that information, power and control can be lost. How do you know that this has not happened? How do you know that groups like the Illuminati or the Priory of Sion or the Templars have a continuous history? Is it possible that the names have remained the same but everything else has changed? That is almost certainly what has happened with the Rosicrucians (unless the AMORC is one heck of a lot sneakier than they look). Why not the Masons? How can people know that the goals of the 'conspiracies' have remained constant? If they haven't, then we are back to my original premise.. that we have small groups of people working, perhaps within an established system, in their own 'enlightened' self interest. The system (such as the 'good ol' boys club) may remain the same, but its goals and players change. This does not seem like the kind of conspiracy we are looking for, unless we are willing to label the democratic and republican parties conspiracies. The system may be wrong, putting too much power into people's hands, but that does not make it a conspiracy, just a flawed system. Once again, thanks for the info. Albert Pike and Satanism, From the Civil War to C. Fred Kleinknecht by

Bevel, launched a mobilization to remove the statue of General Albert

The following is the text of his speech.} Recently, there was a letter
and an accompanying document attacking me issued by the Supreme
Commander of the Southern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite of

government property in Washington, D.C., the ugly statue of a traitor, a

called--is the author of a book called {Morals and Dogma,} which is
considered by many members of the Scottish Rite in the United States a
virtual bible, or at least the anti-bible, of that section of
Freemasonry; and that book, {Morals and Dogma,} is a book consistent
with the satanic religious beliefs explicitly adopted and advocated by
General Pike. General Pike, of course, was the founder of the Ku Klux
Klan; that is not disputable on the basis of the evidence in hand,
though Mr. Kleinknecht proposes to dispute it. What I wish to do here,
is to identify the nature of the core or characteristic issue at stake
between me and the fellow who has engaged me publicly for this debate,
Sovereign Supreme Commander C. Fred Kleinknecht. The Party of Treason As
the letters of Albert Pike to Giuseppe Mazzini illustrate the point,
Pike, like Mazzini, was a satanist; and like Mazzini, was an
{instrument} of a circle in London headed or associated prominently with
Lord Palmerston, the author of the Opium Wars against China, among his
other ``virtues.'' The object of Pike's endeavor and that of Palmerston
and also Mazzini, was to destroy the United States, a continuing
commitment since our War of Independence, this time by means of
fomenting a division of the nation between one part of the nation
controlled by the Southern Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite and other
parts of the nation. This was a conspiracy of traitors--and they were
all in the leadership {conscious traitors} to the United States, that
is, acting as agents of a Britain which {used them} in an effort called
the Civil War or the Secession, to destroy the United States by
dismembering it and thus making the entire Western Hemisphere virtually
a colony of the British Empire. These people were not honest rebels,
they were traitors. This Party of Treason was born among the Tory B
ritish sympathizers of the period of the American War of Independence.
Because of a treaty arrangement, these people, who were traitors in
effect to the United States then, stayed behind in large part and
{formed} what became the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in its modern form
within the United States. They were famous as the slave traders, they
were famous as the partners of the British East India Company, i.e.,
Lord Palmerston's Britain, in running opium principally into China (the
Lowell family, for example, from which McGeorge Bundy is descended, was
part of this gang of treasonously inclined opium traders). They were the
Perkins Syndicate of Salem, Massachusetts, from which a lot of the

they were also part of the Russell Syndicate out of Russell and Co. in

A brief history of the publication of the diary, and of some of the subsequent events surrounding its production as a play and film, demonstrates how the deniers twist the truth to fit their ideological agenda. Anne Frank began her diary on June 12, 1942. In the subsequent twentv-six months she filled a series of albums, loose sheets of paper, and exercise and account books. In addition she wrote a set of stories called Tales From the Secret Annex.* [*The Secret Annex was the name Anne gave to the family's hiding place.] Anne, who frequently referred to her desire to be a writer, took her diary very seriously. This would help future generations understand what the nation bad endured during those terrible years. The next day Anne noted, "Of course they all made a rush at my diary immediately."[30] Anxious to publish her recollections in book form after the war, she rewrote the first volumes of the diary on loose copy paper. In it she changed some of the names of the principal characters, including her Own (Anne Frank became Anne Robin.[31] When Otto Frank was liberated from Auschwitz and returned from the war, he learned that his daughters were dead. A few things: (1) The discussion about mind control and the JFK assassination seems to be leaving out what is said in the 1968 book Were We Controlled. I put together an edition of that book with updated info, photos and biblio (Mind Control, Oswald and JFK). There are, of course, various forms of mind control, and historical sources reflect that Oswald may have been connected to two, the RHIC/EDOM of Were We Controlled and the LSD variety. Just thought I'd throw that in to see if it adds anything to this discussion about occult mind control and the assassination. Were We Controlled points out that the implant mind control technology (RHIC/EDOM) was already 30 years old in 1963. The Russians had been developing it since the 1930s. One resistance to this line of thought is that Jose DelGado, who developed the technology, was only shown stopping a bull with an implant/stimoceiver device, not causing it to pick up and shoot a rifle. So what if it was used to stop Oswald? We have photos of someone (possibly Lansdale) walking south as the tramps are walking north, with a radio control device behind his ear. There's another radio controller next to umbrella man by the Stemmons freeway sign. This could be radio telecommunications, but it could also be stimoceiver instructions to turn off some of the gunmen when the best shots had already been taken. (2) Has anyone seen the current issue of Nation? Max Holland, a U of Virginia academic who writing a history of the Warren Commission, reviews the new spate of JFK books. It's really a sad commentary that this kind of writing is passed off as "leftist" critique. Here's a quote: "[The Warren Commission] staffers were highly motivated to crack the case presented to them, not to mention prove the Dallas Police Department and the FBI wrong if they possibly could." How can anyone possibly believe that? Where in the history of government investigations has one government agency set out to upset or disprove the finding of another? Other things, like sympathy for poor, sensitive CIA/Permindex/transnational spy Clay Shaw, whose connections were successfully covered up until after Garrison's prosecution. Shaw wrote a "searing" diary; never mind that Victor Marchetti reported and Richard Helms confessed to Shaw's connection long after it could do any good. It's infuriating. I can handle books I disagree with, especially if they offer new particulars, like the new one by Gus Russo and the Mary Pinchot Meyer biography by Nina Burleigh (did you know that Meyer had Reichian therapy? Also, the book takes a swipe at Steamshovel), but Holland's article is a clear example of mind control in academia. (3) I'd like to correct the following from Parascope, which I saw when I connected to CTRL again: Because of the erratic nature of the Garrison investigation, many DAs and police authorities around the country tacitly refused to honor his subpoenas. In 1978, Garrison told the House Select Committee on Assassinations that his staff had once spent four hours interviewing Fred Crisman, but as far as I know, he was never compelled to travel to New Orleans or testify on the record. His alleged role in the JFK assassination, like his alleged dero and UFO sightings, remains purely speculative. The "police authorities" mentioned here include Ronald Reagan, who refused to extradict Clay Shaw's co-defendant in the case, Edgar Eugene Bradley. That basically cut the case in half for ol' erratic Jim. Garrison did fly Crisman to New Orleans and took testimony. In fact, Crisman tried to get more money out of Garrison to fly his lawyer in as well. Garrison paid Crisman $500 for his expenses, and agreed to pay the lawyer's expenses but later reneged. Crisman's testimony did not come in with the other documents I got through FOIPA, but other documents do show that this took place. Is Steamshovel back in production yet? Yes. Issue #16 has been out for a while and I expect to start working on the next one soon. The finances are still shaky from the Fine Print distribution bankruptcy disaster, but the hard copy magazine is back in business. Of course, the web site is still there and gets changed fairly regularly. -Caveat Lector- From Int'l Herald Tribune Paris, Thursday, December 10, 1998 Britain Lets Case Against Pinochet Proceed in Courts Extradition Request by Spain Could Take Months to Consider By Warren Hoge New York Times Service LONDON - Home Secretary Jack Straw of Britain ruled Wednesday that the extradition case against General Augusto Pinochet could go forward in English courts. The 83-year-old former Chilean dictator now faces an indefinite stay in England and is to appear Friday at a hearing on the Spanish petition to stand trial in Madrid on charges of crimes against humanity. While any extradition remains a long time and many legal twists and turns away, the decision Wednesday was a significant step that brought exuberant cheers from the general's enemies and angry denunciations from his backers. The Chilean government immediately recalled its ambassador to London, Mario Artaza, explaining, ''It is to give more information and is also a gesture.'' Mr. Straw, the law enforcement minister in the British government, issued the decision in a brief statement saying, ''I signed an authority to proceed in respect of Senator Pinochet today. The Spanish request for his extradition will now be considered by the courts.'' The decision, two days before Friday's deadline, dashed the hopes of General Pinochet's supporters and the Chilean government that Mr. Straw would let him return to Chile. Fearing that outcome, opponents of the general's had been in court earlier Wednesday afternoon seeking a delay in any possible departure so that they would be able to file an appeal keeping the case open. They lost that effort in London's High Court, but minutes later Mr. Straw's announcement made the matter moot. Mr. Straw had been weighing General Pinochet's fate since the Law Lords of the House of Lords, England's highest court, ruled on Nov. 25 that he did not enjoy immunity from arrest and could be held in England while the extradition request was considered. It was Mr. Straw's task to judge the validity of the Spanish claim. Human rights groups hailed it as a victory against tyrants and noted that it came a day before the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. ''This is a wonderful birthday present,'' said Reed Brody, advocacy director of Human Rights Watch. ''The wall of impunity which Pinochet built in Chile by force of arms is being torn down by international law and the political will of the world community.'' British law allows numerous appeals at every stage of the extradition process, and each appeal could require a new decision by the Law Lords. After all appellate procedures are exhausted, Mr. Straw will again have the final say before Mr. Pinochet can be extradited. Legal experts have estimated that the process could take more than a year. In a five-page written reply to a parliamentary question detailing his reasoning, Mr. Straw said he could not sustain the charges of genocide and murder in the petition because they did not fit the legal definitions of extraditable crimes under Britain's Extradition Act of 1989. He said, however, that he was able to match the accusations from the Spanish Judge Baltasar Garzon with equivalent British criminal charges of attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, torture, conspiracy to torture, hostage-taking and conspiracy to take hostages. Addressing the other considerations that he said he was legally bound to base his decision on, Mr. Straw said he did not find that General Pinochet was entitled to sovereign immunity, that the charges against him were not ''of a political character,'' that the length of time since the alleged offenses did not make trying them now ''unjust'' and that General Pinochet's health did not call into question his fitness to stand trial. He said he had considered claims by the Chilean government that General Pinochet might stand trial in Chile but noted he did not ''consider the possibility of a trial in Chile to be a factor which outweighs the U.K.'s obligations under the European Convention on Extradition to extradite Senator Pinochet to Spain.'' In Chile, General Pinochet is Senator for Life, a title that among other things gives him immunity from prosecution there. Spokesmen for Kingsley Napley, the law firm representing General Pinochet, declined to comment on whether it was considering an emergency application for High Court review of Mr. Straw's decision, which might put off the Friday hearing. (CNNS, 12/10/98) -- "We are in a global financial crisis,"
suddenly announced the mainstream media outlets, in September of
1998. That stunning announcement has since been given short
shrift by major news outlets, considering what a huge impact such
a crisis is bound to have.
And here at home, during this crucial season for retailers, we
are lullabied by a repeated mantra: "The economy is good."
But if there is a global financial crisis, and the U.S. is part
of the globe, then how can the economy be "good"?
With 1998 having seen the most massive corporate layoffs of
employees since 1993, now surpassing the 500,000 mark and sure to
grow during the Holiday season, what kind of "good economy" is
that?
With 1998 having seen seven of the top eight corporate mergers of
all time, with a consequent accumulation of Capital into fewer
hands, just who is the economy "good" for?
Beneath the surface, there are serious economic rumblings.
Financial titans are in a desperate end-game race: who will win,
and exclusively control the wealth of the world?
The two most obvious financial titans are the House of
Rockefeller and the House of Rothschild. In a previous press
release by this news service (CNNS: Conspiracy Nation News
Service), we speculated that we are now witnessing an eruption in
the ongoing Rockefeller vs. Rothschild war. The EUREKA DOCUMENT
which thrust this awareness into many minds was an article in the
current Newsweek magazine: "The War Hits Home" by Michael Hirsh;
Dec. 14, 1998. That article leaked, to a relatively limited
audience, the name of ROCKEFELLER as having been a World War II
collaborator with the Nazis.
The name of Rockefeller, besides being explicitly mentioned in
Mr. Hirsh's story, is also interwoven through the piece; it lurks
beneath the surface in several paragraphs. For example, Mr.
Hirsh concludes his article by mentioning a connection between
John Foster Dulles, the Sullivan Cromwell law firm, and the
Nazis. Not explicitly stated, but readable "between the lines,"
is the connection between Dulles, Sullivan Cromwell, and the
Rockefellers. In his book, "David: Report on a Rockefeller"
(New York: Lyle Stuart, Inc., 1971), author William Hoffman
spells it out: John Foster Dulles was a former head of the
Rockefeller Foundation, and "was associated with the law firm of
Sullivan Cromwell, a leading legal agent for all of the
Rockefellers."
The Newsweek article, by Mr. Hirsh, is a not-so-subtle blast
against the name of Rockefeller. "Get Rockefeller" is written
all over it.
And who exactly would want to "get Rockefeller"?
Does the name ROTHSCHILD ring a bell?
An article in the current Time magazine (12/14/98) gives its own
slant on the unfolding story of corporate connections with Nazi
Germany. That article takes the position that lawsuits seeking
reparations for Jewish survivors of the Holocaust somehow demean
the sufferings of World War II-era victims, by tainting that
memory with lucre. A counter-blast by the Rockefellers? In the
memory of millions of State-murdered Jews, let's forget about it?
This is a developing story. At this point CNNS can only offer
pieces of the puzzle.
PUZZLE PIECE #1: On July 8, 1996, Amschel Rothschild, heir to
the Rothschild banking fortune, was found dead, in Paris, France.
His death was officially called a suicide, but it is apparent
that he was in fact murdered. Amschel Rothschild was found to
have been strangled by the cord of his bathrobe, with the other
end attached to a towel rack. But one of the French detectives
at the scene gave a pull on the towel rack, and the towel rack
came right out of the wall! The Spotlight newspaper, in an
article from its Aug. 5, 1996 edition, states definitely that
Amschel Rothschild "was murdered, according to well-placed
European sources." ("Mogul Distorts Rothschild Death; Police Say
Amschel Was Murdered," by Sasha Rakoczy.)
PUZZLE PIECE #2: Shortly after the murder of Amschel Rothschild,
on July 17, 1996, TWA Flight 800 was shot down near Long Island,
New York. Owning a controlling interest in Trans-World Airlines
(TWA) has been Chase Manhattan, the Rockefeller bank. (7.8
percent of TWA common stock; 1971). Did the Rockefellers still
control TWA in 1996, when Flight 800 may have been, according to
Sherman Skolnick, carrying billions of dollars of phony "bearer
bonds"? Sources tell "Ru Mills" (pseudonym) that these
counterfeit bearer bonds "may very well have been the intended
victim of TWA 800." Reportedly, there were no duplicates for
these bonds, which were about to come due. Banks basing their

In the case of Jews and anti-Semitism, there are many grey areas. Jews are overly sensitive to hate speech because hate speech mobilized their genocide. The Anti Defamation League has made a career of exploiting that to the limit. THAT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACTS. People who have personal agendas against Jews ( usually of a religious nature, or one based on envy ) like to try to expand those grey areas for personal satisfaction. I tend "to lose" it when I read this stuff. My father took several hits of shrapnel on Omaha Beach in order to stop what Nazism stood for. (First Lieutenant William C. Tunstall, 29th Infantry Division). He was in and out of veterans hospitals for years afterwards...for my father, the war was never over. When he was drinking, he would carry on imaginary conversations with the men who died in his unit. For my dad, those inner scars never went away. So, my blood boils when I think of Americans embracing anti-semitism..Nazism and fascism... People had to die in order to put an end to that horror... but it still lives on in the demented minds of some of our fellow citizens. So, how do we combat the hate and the evil that is represented my anti-semitism/Nazism/fascism? Now, pardon me, but I fail to see anything funny about Who shot John. I find that the use of this term is odd beyond the likelihood of idle chance. The last time, and indeed only other time, I heard this similar phrase was in a Bush-Clinton Debate in 92. I forget the context, but an annoyed George Bush suddenly said What does it matter who shot John? I was aghast. Nobody else in the media picked up on it. Nor did Clinton. I called various newspapers and TV stations the next day, and all professed not to have noticed it. One media person said it must be a term like Who shot Cock Robin, a sort of Mother Goose rhyme. No!I don't think so folks. I offer another, much more serious hypothesis, and send it out for public consideration. What does it matter who shot John is something that is a sort of joke in certain covert centers where they are proud of their handiwork, and this phrase has become part of a private vernacular. On the evening of December 9, 1998 I had the pleasure of attending a Heritage Foundation-sponsored event in Washington, DC, with Peggy Noonan, former speechwriter to both President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George Bush, the guest speaker. In the eighth installment of the "Heritage 25: Leadership for America" leadership series, Ms. Noonan shared her vision of "Patriotism" with an excited crowd of about 600 people at DCs Marriott hotel ballroom. Ms. Noonan started off with some wonderfully touching stories about President Reagan, the man who made America feel great about itself especially after the disastrous Carter administration -- and who became one of greatest leaders of our time. One such story Ms. Noonan recalled was when President Reagan, who during the early 80s was being criticized for not meeting with the Soviet leaders, responded to his critics by saying, "They all just keep dying off on me." Of course, if you recall, Soviet leaders like Brezhnev, Andropov and others were, in fact, dying off in succession. Ms. Noonan reminded the crowd that one of the great things that have made President Reagan such an awesome leader is his unwavering and tremendous charismatic sense of humor. Always upbeat. Never temperamental, she tells us. Always an optimist and a true gentleman. And maybe one of the last of the true gentleman, she wonders out loud. Recounting a recent story, told to her by a mutual friend of hers and President Reagan, she tells us about when Reagan not too long ago referred to his bout with Alzheimers by saying, "The best thing about having Alzheimers is that you always get to meet someone new!" Optimism in the face of serious adversity. Now thats class, folks. A true gentleman, even when faced with such odds, President Reagan remains an optimist till this day. Moving on Ms. Noonan tells us about her vision of America in the 1990s. About how America was, how it should be, taking us back to the Reagan years. Its now two decades since President Reagan hit the national scene. And while President Reagan gave Americans many reasons to believe in themselves and the country, the current scandal involving Bill Clinton has contributed to a notable moral decline in the U.S. Today, Ms. Noonan tells us, we as a nation are forgetting to teach our children how to love their country. Our schools fail to teach our children the Pledge of Allegiance. And to make matters even worse, kids arent even encouraged to say the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the day. Nowadays kids think that Presidents Day is Bill Clintons birthday! And thats no joke either. We dont even celebrate George Washingtons birthday because we dont have a George Washington Day. Wheres the sense of patriotism? Yet, what saddens Ms. Noonan the most is that our schools are teaching our young boys and girls the future of America the sins of racism (and all the other "..isms") rather than the important virtues of [American] patriotism. In school, via the media and in the movie theaters kids of all ages are learning about how terrible the U.S. is rather than learning about this countrys accomplishments. In Hollywood the U.S. is endlessly hammered. In 1998, Ms. Noonan says, cynicism is a virus. Again, the scandal involving Bill Clinton has contributed to the growing cynicism. But, according to Ms. Noonan, none of this discourages folks from all over the world to immigrate to the United States. "If theyre still coming, then we still got it," Ms. Noonan proudly proclaims. Among the many questions Ms. Noonan challenged the audience included: · We need to ask ourselves whether the internationalization of the American culture is changing other countrys views of us for the better, or the worse? · We need to ask ourselves where is our sense of American history? · Who will teach immigrants to love America? Its certainly not TV. Not Hollywood. Its up to us, every one of us, Ms. Noonan proclaims. In 1998 we lack a sense of patriotism, and we as a nation need to find ways to bring it back and to teach our children the values of patriotism. While America is prosperous, what else, besides materialism, would keep this country together should a recession happen? Were living in a "post-patriotism" time, Ms. Noonan says We need to love this country if we are to grow and remain a strong nation. "You can loose a country by not loving her," warns Ms. Noonan. So recall facilitated by efficient organizing (internet) will lead to referenda being BINDING on the Parliament as is the case on all matters in Switzerland. crowing about their philosophy, they just DO it...
In your statement above, I have found that it has been Conservatives of
the capital-C variety who give lipservice to 'whatever' (usually whatever
opposes what the Liberals of the capital-L variety are espousing)
But I have found conservatives of the small-c variety actually more
'empowering' of various minorities in their day-to-day dealings...but
they just DO it as a matter of course, they don't go about preaching
about it, nor trying to legislate that everyone else do the same...
Even today most women in public roles are praised for beautification
projects, interior decorating, hospital visits and involvement with
children--even Princess Di fits this bill.
Don't blame Conservatives/conservatives for this...this is the VERY role
that Liberals put women into...
Admittedly, most men have had trouble grasping what it is that "women
want", but it seems to me that those who define themselves as
"liberal" have made more of an effort to understand than most.
I have found the opposite...I have found Liberal males just want a woman
to be in a supportive role, while I have found conservatives (not the
capitalization) have been putting women into more roles that have REAL
substance (instead of just a title for show, with no real power)...
But most people who hung their hopes on the Liberals as the 'saviours of
women' have a problem seeing the real truth as to how those Liberals
really treat women...
Sounds like you have had a bad experience and have your own axe to
grind.
Not really...just day-to-day living, meeting men who espouse various
philosophies...and I've never met a male of the Liberal variety who EVER
gave up power to women in any sort of organization, and rarely in their
personal lives...in respect to women, such men espouse Liberalism as a
euphemism for 'free sex', but expect the women in their sphere to stay in
the background baking cookies and brewing coffee when anything of
substance is being planned...

Augusto Pinochet in London, the US government has yet to publicly declare its attitude toward the detention of the ex-Chilean dictator and the advisability of his being extradited to Spain to be placed on trial for crimes against humanity. Several European governments have declared their backing for such a trial, and some--France and Switzerland, for example--have sought Pinochet's extradition as well, demanding that he be tried by their courts for the murder of their citizens. The Clinton administration has expressed no such desire. The State Department's spokesman James Rubin declared recently that Washington is "not prepared yet to state our views about the legal merits" of the case for Pinochet's extradition. "We continue to study the opinions." The one explicit statement on the Pinochet affair has come from Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, who expressed US concern for "democracy and the rule of law in Chile." She continued: "I think we believe that in Chile the citizens of a democratic state are wrestling with a very difficult problem of how to balance the need for justice with the requirements of reconciliation. I think significant respect should be given to their conclusions." This was tantamount to a declaration of support for the position of the Chilean government that Pinochet should be released and sent back to Chile. While the US media has remained largely silent on the matter, the press in Europe has widely reported that the State Department is conducting an aggressive intervention with the British government to achieve this end. No examination is made by the media on either side of the Atlantic of precisely what the terms "democracy" and "reconciliation" mean in the Chilean context. It is reconciliation between the Pinochet dictatorship's assassins and the relatives of their victims, between the torturers and the tortured. It is a "democracy" that accepts that the military stands above all laws and can commit mass murder of civilians with impunity. In short, it is the acceptance of a society in which the ruling class holds a club over the heads of the workers, threatening to bring it down again whenever political or economic developments pose a threat to its wealth and power. This is the "democratic" state that the Clinton administration is determined to preserve. Similar regimes exist throughout Latin America, where the transition from military juntas to governments headed by civilians has been equated with the advent of democracy. In all of them, amnesty and "punto final" laws have been enacted that ensure the preservation of military establishments trained and equipped by the United States. These laws protect the military from any legal retribution for mass executions in stadiums, the torture of hundreds of thousands of people, the theft of children from mothers and fathers who were put to death, and countless other acts of brutality directed first and foremost against the working class. Of all the world's governments, that of the US has one of the clearest cases for demanding the extradition and trial of the butcher of Santiago. Aside from US citizens Charles Horman and Frank Teruggi, who were executed by the Chilean military during the Pinochet-led coup of 1973, Pinochet's regime was responsible for the only political assassination on the streets of Washington known to have been ordered and carried out by a foreign power. In 1976 a car bomb planted by the US-born Chilean intelligence agent Michael Vernon Townley took the lives of Orlando Letelier, the exiled former minister of the government of Salvador Allende, and that of his American aide, Ronni Moffit. Townley confessed to the crime, as well as to other political assassinations and attempted assassinations of opponents of the Pinochet regime from Rome to Buenos Aires to Mexico City. In return for implicating a group of anti-Castro Cubans, veterans of previous CIA operations, and for fingering Colonel Manuel Contreras, the chief of Chile's secret police, the DINA, Townley was given a reduced sentence and a new identity under the federal witness protection program. Contreras, who was sentenced to a prison term in Chile in an attempt to close the books on the case, testified that all of his actions were carried out on the direct orders of Pinochet. Washington has consistently demanded the extradition of those it accused of ordering or carrying out acts of terrorism that claimed the lives of US citizens, even on foreign soil. It succeeded in bringing to the US for trial foreign nationals charged with carrying out the bombings last August of the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Saalam, even though the great majority of the victims of the attacks were not US citizens. This is what the real conspiracy is all about--making money for the wife and kiddies and in the process maybe becoming a shining member of the community. This is what the British class system has always been. Do something useful for the people who control the investments of the monarch so you'll be knighted or recognized. And how do you control this network? Through doling out funds. Men who had the financial acumen when our country was a baby were assigned to growing communities in need of banks. In Texas, corporate banks were illegal or too expensive to acquire charters for, so individuals with backing established grocery stores which made loans to anyone who wanted to go into business of any kind in the area. Collateral was primarily land and crops. The local banker/merchant only got a small piece of the profit, and he only was allowed to have that if he kept the secret of who he got the original capital from. The secrets were maintained through lodges which were all connected up back to the source. This is all so simple and obvious. But it's hard to believe because it means the conspiracy is us. People don't want to admit the things they do for money and prestige. It easier to put a cloak of altruism or religion around it. That's what the lodge does. It allows the men who do the dirty work to rationalize what they do. They ask no questions. All they want is to impress their family. And they pass their position in the lodge to their own son. My point exactly.. but I hardly consider this a 'conspiracy' in the same sense that the Kennedy assassination seems to be. I agree, we are a 'conspiracy' when you look at the way in which all of us seem to be more comfortable dealing with people we know.. dealing with people like us. This though is usually an 'unconscious' conspiracy, not a 'conscious' one that seems to be the topic of so much conversation around here. This does not mean that there is no 'dirty work' out there. I think that there are 'conspiracies' involved in our daily lives. Banks which refuse loans to people trying to move into the 'wrong' neighborhood for instance, but I think that there are several steps missing between the daily prejudices and the world-controlling versions. I'm really curious as to your sources about the 'linking up' of the lodges. Hatfield and Seth Rosenfeld of The Examiner staff contributed to this report San Francisco Examiner, December 9, 1998 The California Public Utilities Commission and the state's newly formed grid-operating Independent System Operator say they will be looking into the electrical failure that darkened San Francisco and much of San Mateo County for more than six hours Tuesday. The massive failure, which could cost PGE millions of dollars in damages because of expected claims, drew complaints from the Board of Supervisors and criticism of the PGE's management at a time when the utility industry is dramatically changing. "I think the larger lesson here is: What's going on with this company?" said Nettie Hoge, director of the nonprofit consumer group The Utility Rate Network. The power failure was caused, PGE said, by simple human error, but it threw the northern Peninsula into chaos and highlighted the vulnerability of The City's power grid and our high-tech life. E-mail, voicemail, answering machines, faxes and coffee makers all went dead thanks to a PGE worker who forgot to do something elementary: remove a grounding wire before restarting the power. "Grounding is a pretty basic procedure," said Carl Bellone, PGE's director of distribution operations. "It's as basic as it gets." Because of the error, 435,481 PGE customers - or about a million and a half people - lost power for anywhere from two to seven hours in San Francisco and San Mateo County. San Francisco resident Sarah Killgore, 75, was killed by a hit-and-run driver who didn't stop at an intersection that had no working traffic light. As of Wednesday morning, PGE had no information on the number of claims filed or the amount of damages sought. Spokesman Cory Warren said, "It's company policy to settle claims promptly and fairly." Hoge cited a litany of recent PGE problems, including a blackout sparked by someone who tampered with the controls in a Mission Street electricity substation last year and a 1997 jury decision that the company bore responsibility for a 500-acre forest fire in the Sierra. "This ought to be strike three," Hoge said. "You can't blame an act of God." She said she didn't believe Tuesday's blackout was the fault of the recent electric industry deregulation, but was simply an example of bad management. "This may have been human error, but who was supervising the human?" she said. The PGE crew responsible for the power failure was doing routine maintenance at a San Mateo substation. Grounding wires, which are about as thick as a man's thumb, are normally put in after the power is turned off to protect workers. They are removed when the work is completed. But one of the workers failed to remove the wires before power was restarted, triggering a massive short circuit and causing two San Francisco power plants and 25 substations to automatically shut down. The unidentified workers in the four-person construction crew will "go through the normal discipline process," said PGE President and CEO Gordon Smith. He declined to elaborate. Although the error was simple, the location was crucial. "(San Mateo) is a very critical substation; it's the biggest one" on the Peninsula, said Bellone. "They don't all feed downtown San Francisco." The Embarcadero, for instance, generally kept power because it is fed by a separate 230-kilovolt line that was not affected. Parts of the western Peninsula and The City also were on different circuits and were not affected. That one substation could wipe out almost an entire major city highlights San Francisco's geographic isolation at the upper tip of a peninsula. Most other cities are fed power from many sources and from several directions. But because San Francisco is bordered by water on three sides, its power comes only from what it generates at its own plants - at Potrero Hill and Hunters Point - and from plants on the Peninsula and in San Jose. "In terms of lessons learned . . . it's worth revisiting the question: Is San Francisco inherently necessarily that isolated, or is there something we can do about that," said Ron Knecht, president of the Economic and Technical Analysis Group, an energy consulting firm in The City. PGE's Smith said the company would be looking closely at transmission upgrades. "Short of building an underwater transmission line to the east or to the north, which is incredibly expensive, we can probably do a better job of making sure (we have better) transmission capability coming up the Peninsula," he said. Tom Ammiano, incoming president of the Board of Supervisors, said he would ask for an investigation into PGE's possible legal liability for damages, particularly to small business operators.
