TWA 800 controversy heats up

Jack Cashill
WorldNetDaily.com
Monday, June 25, 2001

On a warm June evening in Kansas City, the historic
home of TWA and the current site of its huge overhaul
base, a group of 75 or so airline pilots watched the
documentary Silenced: Flight 800 and the Subversion of
Justice in stunned horror.
Afterwards, not a one among them, either publicly or
privately, challenged the video's thesis that TWA Flight
800 had indeed been shot down. Offered instead were
corroborating details, particularly from angry TWA
pilots, about the money trail and the inexplicable
Pentagon visits of then TWA CEO Jeff Erickson. Said one
TWA pilot: 90 percent of us believe there was a
government cover-up.
From the Boeing community in Seattle the response
has been much the same. Writes one Boeing engineer, a man
who had spent countless hours helping analyze TWA 800 on
Boeing's Cray Supercomputers, I brought it (Silenced)
to work today and showed it during lunch to eight of my
fellow Boeing workers. The room was deathly quiet the
entire time. ... My impression then was a missile strike,
and it is even more so today.
Even more troubling is the response of Mike Wire,
the Philadelphia millwright on whose presumed testimony
the CIA based its notorious animation of TWA 800
rocketing upwards like a missile: . . .

 Steve

What is your source for this recession?

http://www.gserc.usm.edu/united_states_economy.htm

The United States Economy

Growth in Output

The decade of the 90’s has been one of unprecedented growth and
prosperity for the United States economy. Since the most recent recession
that ended in the first quarter of 1991, real GDP (inflation-adjusted value
of the nation's output) has grown constantly at an average rate of more than
3% per year. Since the end of 1995 real GDP growth has been above 4% per year
consistently. Reflecting similar strength in the nation’s output of products
and services, the index of industrial production has risen at an average
annual rate of approximately 3.7% since 1990. Growth in output has generated
robust growth in personal income, which has grown at an average annualized
rate of 5.28% during the decade. Growth in demand for products at the retail
level has kept pace with total retail sales increasing at more than 5.5% per
year since 1990.

Labor Markets

With such vigorous growth in the nation’s production of output during the
1990s, it is not surprising that employment growth was similarly strong.
While the labor force grew at an average rate of 1.14% per year, actual
employment grew by more than 1.3% per year for the same period. That resulted
in persistent declines in the unemployment rate from a high of 7.5% in 1992
to 4.2% for 1999. Historical perspective has taught expert and casual
observers alike that periods of high GDP growth and low unemployment cannot
be sustained without abnormally high (and accelerating) inflation rates.

Price Stability

Inflationary pressures that were expected, especially during the latter
half of the '90s did not materialize. Using percentage changes in the GDP
price deflator, the broadest measure of inflation, the rate fell from almost
4% in 1990 to less than 3% through 1995, and under 2% for the remaining years
of the decade. Inflation in consumer prices was similarly low, also falling
below 2% during 1997-98. Nearly a decade of sustained high growth in output
and employment combined with stable prices and full employment represents a
rare occurrence in our nation's economic history. How does one explain the
phenomenal performance ?

Productivity Growth

Using the benefit of hindsight, the answer to that question is reasonably
clear. For the production of goods and services, the supply side, the key to
growth has been increasing productivity, enhanced by accelerating
technological advancement. Analysis of figures in Table 1, shows
productivity growth measured by the percentage change in output per hour of
work was positive throughout the '90s. During the final four years of the
decade, productivity grew at an average rate of almost 3% per year. The
ability to produce increasing levels of output per hour of work at home and
the availability of products produced at low cost abroad helped to relieve
inflationary pressures that otherwise would have been present.

Consumer Demand

Demand for products and services remained strong , buoyed by spending by
consumers who made purchases out of rising incomes and even more rapidly
rising stores of wealth. As cited above, personal income rose at more than
5.25% per year, and gains in wealth were even more impressive. The SP 500
Index, for example rose from approximately 267 at the end of 1989 to 1469 by
the end of 1999, an average increase of more than 21% per year for the entire
period. That exponential rise in the value of equity shares affected both the
demand for products and the ability to produce them more inexpensively.
Additional household wealth not only stimulated additional spending for big
ticket items such as housing and SUVs, but also it made financing readily
available to firms, allowing them to introduce new technologies to the
marketplace.

Summary

For the U.S. economy, the 1990s was a decade of robust growth in output
supported by equally robust productivity growth based on technological
advancement and spending based on the wealth effect. From the macroeconomic
perspective, it was a period during which most of the economic news was very
good.

This is almost funny - jurisdiction in US?

A California Court doesn't even have jurisdiction in say a Court in
Texas or Ohio?

The only person who ever took this Court seriously, was Charles Manson
and his followers?

Someday the fertilizer business will be thriving.

Now seems there are some war criminal charges pending against Albright,
Clinton, etc., etc., etc. somewhere; however, if these world leaders
want to try themselves in War Crimes Courts I will not object until the
lot of them are executed aat sunrise - for tomorrow is another day?

 World Court claims U.S. jurisdiction

 By Betsy Pisik
 THE WASHINGTON TIMES

NEW YORK -- The International Court of Justice
yesterday criticized the state of Arizona for executing a
German national in defiance of its wishes, insisting in its most
explicit language that ICJ orders are binding on U.S. and
 other national courts.

American authorities were scrambling yesterday to
 understand the consequences.

They could not say whether the judgment would open the United
States to financial claims from Germany, or whether the ruling
would have any material impact on the U.S. legal system.
The case presented complex issues and the decision requires
careful study, said State Department spokesman Philip
 Reeker.

We are undertaking a close and careful review of it in its
 entirety.

The ICJ, also known as the World Court, had previously
criticized the United States for breaching the Vienna
Convention by failing to meet its obligation to notify a
consulate when foreign nationals were charged with crimes.
In March 1999, Arizona executed Walter LaGrand, an
indigent German national who with his brother was convicted
of fatally stabbing a bank manager during a botched robbery
 in 1982.

At the request of Germany, the Hague-based World
Court issued a provisional order -- a sort of injunction --
ordering Arizona not to execute him until it could make a final
ruling on the matter. LaGrand was executed, as scheduled,
 the following day.

The court criticized the U.S. solicitor general and the
governor of Arizona for treating its provisionary order as
 mere exhortation.

Because the court can take more than two years to decide
a case, these provisional orders are most often injunctions,
intended to freeze the action until the court can rule.

By failing to take all measures at its disposal to ensure
that Walter LaGrand was not executed pending the [ICJ's]
final decision ... the United States breached the obligation
incumbent upon it, the judges wrote in a majority opinion.

The ICJ hears disputes between nations. Its decisions are
considered binding and can only be appealed through the
U.N. Security Council. Yesterday's ruling essentially
 reinforced that.

This is an interesting step forward in terms of the ICJ
asserting itself, said Lee Casey, a former Justice Department
lawyer and expert on international law.

It shows that the court is being more assertive than it has
been in the past, and given where we are in the development
of international law and these new criminal courts, that's
 important.

Mr. Casey said the ICJ is clearly concerned that the U.S.
government did not do enough to compel the state of Arizona
to comply with its order. But the federal government doesn't
necessarily have the authority to do that.

In a previous case involving foreign nationals on death
row, then-Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright appealed
to the Supreme Court to halt the execution of a Paraguayan
rapist and murderer in Northern Virginia. The local
jurisdiction proceeded with the execution as scheduled.

State Department officials have acknowledged that the
Vienna Convention was violated in the LaGrand case, and
say that a sweeping program is under way to educate state
and local jurisdictions on consular notification.

We think consular notification is important for Americans
abroad and we take it very seriously, Mr. Reeker said
yesterday. We recognize that we have to provide consular
notification to foreign nationals in the United States.

American lawyers argued at The Hague two years ago
that the trial was fair and that the LaGrands had ample time --
nearly 15 years -- to run through appeals in four different
 courts.

Nor is Germany claiming its innocence.
Karl and Walter LaGrand were born in Germany but
moved to the United States as toddlers. Their mother married
an American serviceman, and they are said to have had no
 accent.

In 1982, the brothers panicked during a robbery

Yes I do Prudy. All elites are scumbags by definiton. The difference is in
how the scumbags use their power and against whom.

Sharon nor any of the other Israelis that I know of, ever pocketted the
money sent to keep their own people alive. Secondly, The Israelis never
had a policy of killing civilian foreign nationals arbitrarily. Only those
working for their enemies. This does not include mistakes which were made
from time to time as was the case in Lillihammer where they assasinated a
waiter who looked like one of the killers in the Munich Massacre.

The Palestinians NEVER had decent leaders. That's one of the reasons they

Now they are going to pay dearly for the immense stupidity of Yassir Arafat.

Re: [CTRL] World Court claims U.S. jurisdiction

2001-06-29 Thread Steve Suranie

-Caveat Lector-

This does lead to a bit of confusion but I think it makes sense in this
order:

No foreign court or international body can have any influence on a domestic
court case involving a US citizen who committed a crime on US soil.

Also, having traveled to Africa and South America I know that any citizen,
regardless of nationality, is subject to the laws and regulations of the
country they are in (with some exceptions made for diplomats) as well as the
judicial system of that country.

Now according to the article:

The ICJ hears disputes between nations. Its decisions are
considered binding and can only be appealed through the U.N. Security
Council. Yesterday'sruling essentially reinforced that.

This would indicate that we have signed some sort of treaty to abide by the
ICJ rulings when legal issues in the US involve a foreign citizen. And it
would indicate other signatories to the treaty would also abide by these
court rulings when involving an American in their court systems. I don't
have a problem with that as these would be unique cases such as the case of
the German national who was executed. It makes sense that Germany would
protest the execution of one of its citizens by us as they no longer support
the death penalty and subsequently natural for an international court to
want to suspend the sentence for further review. We're pretty isolated when
it comes to the death penalty, most other nations have abandoned it.

Here is a question that arises from this for me. There are two prominent
instances of American's being held in foreign territories which I am curious
if the ICJ had any influence or made any review of.

There was the American business man who was held in Russia on charges of
stealing information regarding either their submarines or
torpedoes/missiles. (Sorry for the ambiguity I don't have any references
nearby) He was charged, sentenced and then released. Did ICJ have any
involvement here. If I remember the material he allegedly stole was already
public record.

There is also an American woman who is being held in Peru whose government
claims she was a member of the Shining Path movement and involved in
terrorist activities. Her appeal was recently turned over and she is still
in a mountain top prison down there.

Anyone able to expand on this?

Thanks

Steve

[CTRL] Fwd: The Peace Treaty of Versailles

2001-06-29 Thread Aleisha Saba

Here is a peace treaty; now USA made a lot of treaties with the indians,
but did they ever keep them?

Israel and PLO - well this stuff has been going on for 2,000 years and
they say things change?

Now is almost humorous for all these leaders are being charged with war
crimes? This country has not be in war since WWII? Any of the wars
legal?

Used to be you declared a war - so is Israel question, are these civil
wars not subject to world wide courts claiming to hold jurisdiction over
the whole wide world - my god no wonder the creator of Superman had him
killed off when he got into the World Peace business.

Today it is illegal for a dog to run at large; if the dog does not have
a owner, it is murdered; if it does have an owner, someday they will
murder the owner

So now all these World Leaders are being charged with War
Crimes..should we fan the flames or will it be someday we will have
to save Clinton's worthless hide from big time courts with no
jurisdiction?

But to think our Congress or whatnotso have entered into all these
agreements without our ocnsent and/or knowledge and it seems without
our vote?

Diplomatic immunity? What about that Chinese Embassy we blew up and
how is that for diplomatic immunity.

What is a civil war as opposed to - well what is a declared war, for
that is a legal war?

What are we doing fighting in Civil Wars for foreign countries or with
them - you can lose your citizenship doing such things.

So if they want to take Clinton and Sharon and Albright and try them in
a Kangeroo Court should I complain.

Can't you see them dragging Clinton off to a War Crimes Court? Think
anybody would give a crap?

Why is this thing so funny to me.it is like my former husband -
once he told me he was king in this house and when he landed in Divorce
Court he still believed it?

The purpose of this post is to inform you of a series of actions and events
that seem to be coming together into a huge and alarming scenario.

I don't want to sound too radical and conspiracy-oriented, but I feel this

And I am drawing some conclusions for you.

PLEASE NOTE: my conclusions are not the only opinions on these facts.
I am not claiming that my conclusions are the only accurate conclusions.
I am, however, saying that my conclusions are based on the following
facts, plus many more that I have not included or cannot include in

This post will be a little long, even for me. But I believe it is important

year that has me VERY CONCERNED! Please read it!

Afterwards, you are free to draw any conclusions you want. This is, after
all, a free America. For the moment, anyway?

First, let me say that almost 30 years ago, I had my securities license
and was trained to watch stock patterns so I could make good recommendations
before certain stocks would rise in price. At that time there were a
number of stock market patterns that were well established in their
accuracy, and these patterns were given names.

One of the earliest and most documented patterns was the War and Peace
cycle. This cycle or pattern included several factors, but was most obvious
by watching the steel industry - specifically stock price movement,
manufacturing activities, raw materials inventory levels, and insider
trading in those stocks. Most analysts downplayed the War and Peace
cycle because it was considered political and because it seemed to make
you look like a warmonger.

Yet I believe it was one of the best established, well-documented and most
accurate patterns in the stock market. However, the War and Peace cycle
was only accurate in the periods leading up to military actions..

The War and Peace cycle is going through the roof right now.

Having been out of the securities industry for a long time, I have not
been watching these stocks for years. And the steel industry in America
has been at a standstill for almost 30 years. Stock prices have moved
almost none at all, and no insiders held any shares to speak of. Yet,
in the last 6 months to a year, almost all American steel companies
have seen a significant rise in their values -- more than any seen in
the last 30 years. Some companies, such as Bethlehem Steel and
Gibraltar Steel have risen as much as 400% over the past few months.
Further, their shares are ending up in insiders' portfolios in alarming
amounts. Lately, there have been several well-known analysts who have
pointed out that the War and Peace stocks are showing surprising activity,
with some claiming the patterns are as alarming as just before W.W.II broke
out in Europe.

Almost 2 weeks ago, I heard a short discussion of the steel and war-oriented
heavy manufacturing companies, with the analysts giving a buy recommendation
for the first time since the 1970s. They made no mention of any military
action, but they sure took notice of unusual raw materials levels and
insider trading. One of the group of commentators suggested that somet
hing was happening, but no one offered any real suggestions as to why
the unusual corporate and insider activities. They did, however, report
that there was no obvious activity anywhere in the world that would justify
this increase in stock value or increase in share ownership among insiders.
Of course, it is always possible that our leaders are gearing up for war.

Most of you have received posts from me in the past encouraging you to watch
and pray for the Mid-East conflict and the China/Taiwan conflict.

It seems at this point probable that one or both of these problems will
escalate into war in the near future. It is possible that this rise in
the War and Peace index is a result of these pending

Thanks for sending me a link to a list of treaties on various methods of
nuclear weapons and technology control/containment. I'm not really sure what
this has to do with international treaties covering ICJ or court cases
involving foreign nationals in our courts.

I've considred what JFK had going for him with Russia sending missles to
Cuba and I really don't see what that has to do with my post which was in
response to your original post on a German citizen being executed in Arizona
and a issue of if the ICJ had any authority in reviewing the case.

Once again you seem to ramble on into a string of incoherent thoughts, make
claims for which you provide no documentation, all of which have nothing to
do with your original message. Could you please post a link or a reference
to where you got your information indicating Russia as a ballastic missle
shield in place? I won't bother asking what this has to do with
international treaties on jurisprudence.

Amazingly you then work your way through a New World Order/UN conspiracy,
homophobia, foot and mouth disease, a Bible reference and, I suppose coming
full circle, America's regrettable history of broken treaties with Native
Americans.

I guess the only point I can seem to make from your reponse is that you have
no problem with the US breaking membership in an international treaty
covering court cases involving foreign nationals in our court systems.

Bleeding New York City -- For Profit
By Steven Milloy
June 29, 2001

WHY is the American Red Cross trying to reduce New York City's blood
supply by 25 percent? Why does state Health Commissioner Dr. Antonia
Novello support such a move?

The answers are most unappealing. For the Red Cross, the answer appears to
lie with its financial difficulties. For Novello, the answer is an
inability to distinguish real from theoretical risks - topped off by
bureaucratic peer pressure...

[CTRL] Why this sudden concern re blood supply

2001-06-29 Thread Aleisha Saba

-Caveat Lector-

This article a portion herein is absolutely false.

It reads no reports here of mad cow disease, which is a lie.

A couple of months ago my son had a friend who had been in Scotland who
died from Mad Cow Disease.

In checking this out, and when you do stuff on the telephone always tell
the person answering you are doing a story or are a reporter, and you
find you get better treatment for everybody want's their one minute of
fame and glory.

So end result, there were two cases of mad cow disease in this area, and
it is nothing unusual.

The individual who told me this, was an officer with the Health
Department for I went direct to the source.

Is there a problem with the blood once again; now homosexuals are
angered because the question is asked in so many words, are you a
homosexual and they feel victimized?
This is when they try to donate blood.

Would I want blood from anyone who was homosexual? No way, in fact
recently when I had to have a transfusion I was guaranteed the blood was
safe and my DNA would not change, for I could wake up black tomorrow and
not know it?

So much for panic but something is wrong herevery very wrong. This
mad cow disease has been a farce from the start - maybe dometstic
sabotage for who got hurt the worst - McDonalds? Slaughtering cattle
with hoof and mouth disease and mad cow disease.

Wonder - estrogen is made from horse serum and now I read where horses

do cats get leukemia - something they are fed, like this garbage they
call fish cat foods, etc.

Tighter blood-donor rules backedRecommendation aims to reduce mad cow
disease risk
ASSOCIATED PRESS
BETHESDA, Md., June 28 — A federal advisory committee recommended
tighter restrictions on blood donors Thursday in an effort to protect
America's blood supply from Europe's mad cow disease.

Sign up for our free health e-newsletter

The FDA estimates the proposed plan would reduce the risk of mad cow
disease entering the blood supply by up to 91 percent.
THE RECOMMENDATIONS came despite warnings from health
officials that tougher restrictions would cause blood shortages.
If the recommendations are followed by the Food and Drug
Administration, they could reduce the available blood donors in the
United States by up to 5.3 percent, according to agency estimates. They
would reduce the risk of mad cow disease entering the blood supply by up
to 91 percent, according to the same estimates.
There have been no identified cases of mad cow disease in
the United States, either in cattle or in humans. There is no evidence
that the human variety can be spread through blood transfusions, but the
panel made its recommendations to cut any risk of such an occurrence.

Breaking Bioethics columnist Art Caplan, Ph.D., weighs in on the
controversy
The vote came after the American Red Cross had announced
it intended to institute even tighter restriction in September. The Red
Cross collects about half of the 14 million units of blood donated in
the United States annually.
Countless lives will be lost if blood supplies are cut
further, Dr. Jeffrey Doughlin, a surgeon at Jamaica Hospital in New
York, told the FDA advisory panel. We already are dealing with a
dwindling supply.

PROPOSED LIMITS
The proposal, approved by the committee by a vote of
10-7, recommends that donors be excluded who have spent a cumulative
three months or more in Britain from 1980 through the end of 1996. It
also would exclude donors who have had a cumulative time of travel or
residence of five years or more in any other European country.
Additionally, the proposal recommends that American
military personnel or dependents who have spent six months or more on a
base in Europe from the years 1980 through the end of 1996 be excluded
from blood donation.
Also excluded would be people who have received blood
transfusions in Britain any time from 1980 to the present.
Acknowledging concerns about the impact on the blood
supply, the committee added an amendment that calls for a national donor
recruitment campaign.
Current regulations forbid collecting blood from donors
who have lived in Britain for six months or in some European countries
for 10 years.
FDA officials are concerned that people who have traveled
or lived in Europe, particularly Britain, may have eaten beef
contaminated by bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease.
Studies have shown that the disease can be transmitted to humans in meat
and, years later, cause a brain disease that rots holes in the brain
called new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, or vCJD.
Britain was the center of an outbreak of mad Cow disease
and at least 91 people there developed vCJD.
Although it has not been proven, some health experts fear
that people who have eaten contaminated beef might transmit the disease

Mr. G. Richard Wagoner Jr., President and CEO

Dear General Motors Management,

According to the webpage:

http://www.civilization.ca/cwm/ihuman/cwmhumeng.html

an artistic assault on the principles of self determination and
defense, The Art of Peacemaking - The Gun Sculpture, is being
presented until June 24, 2001 in General Motors Court at the
Canadian War Museum. I understand this offense against liberty
is next headed for UN headquarters in New York for the July 9 -
20 world disarmament cabal.

This seems really inconsistent with your sponsorship of the Chevy
Trucks Shooting Sports America series on ESPN cable network,
which has done much good at positively presenting recreational
firearms use to a viewing public that is otherwise bombarded
with anti-gun media bias. For that, you should be commended.

Do you have any control over what happens in a site that bears
your name? Do you provide continued funding? If you do, will
you continue to allow your name to be associated with the
globalist agenda to undermine American sovereignty and disarm
the American people?
http://dosfan.lib.uic.edu/ERC/arms/freedom_war.html

I realize that global buying power is one of the phrases you
use to attract investors, but I hope that GM is not underwriting
the destruction of American freedoms to achieve global profits.
I am forwarding this query to allies in the fight to defend the
total Bill of Rights, and will also pass along your reply and/or
lack of response.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

GM claimed they were unfamiliar with this sculpture in an
email that another gun rights activist forwarded to me, so I
wrote their Customer Relationships Manager the following:

- ---

Dear Ms. Mendoza,

As per your correspondence with Mr. Rankin, you are unfamiliar
with any movement regarding General Motors, the United Nations,
and an anti-gun sculpture.

Allow me to assist. The link you requested is provided below.
http://www.civilization.ca/cwm/ihuman/cwmhumeng.html

I informed GM, via the contact us form on your website.

Our questions are simple- does GM endorse the UN's global
civilian disarmament efforts, or does GM support the United
States Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and particularly, the
right of the people to keep and bear arms? And what is GM
prepared to do about this sculpture currently on display in
the GM Court?

Your prompt attention to this matter will be appreciated.

Thank you,
David Codrea

-

This is the first response I received:

-

Dear Mr. Codrea,

Thank you for your recent e-mail. We appreciate you sending us the
link we requested. We should clarify this matter for you. General
Motors Court is the physical address of the Canadian War Museum.
This is the only relationship between the Gun Sculpture and General
Motors.

Thank you again for contacting us.

[CTRL] Fwd: Surgeon general urges frank sex talk

2001-06-29 Thread Aleisha Saba

Frank sex talk? What about all this garbage on television these days -
and we have Rosie, and Ellen and now Paula Poundstone who will not enter
a state unless she reads the sodomy laws first.

From where does all this disease come? And why should decent children
have to be exposed to this garbage in our schools and told now someday
it will be proper for homosexuals and/or lesbians to shove into
organizations where they simply are not wanted?

Seems the biggest problem in this country is HIV/AIDS, and of course the
numerous sexually transmitted diseases - strange when I was in high
school this type of stuff was not so , well let us use the word popular.

As us white people used to say, we never locked our doors at
nightwonder why things are so different now?

Surgeon general urges frank sex talk
Government report
a 'call to action'U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher discusses the
report with MSNBC's Diane Dimond.
MSNBC STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
June 28 —   Pointing to alarmingly high levels of sexually
transmitted diseases, unintended pregnancies, abortions and sexual
violence in the United States, Surgeon General David Satcher called on
parents, schools and community leaders Thursday to get past their
nervousness about sex so they can do a better job of educating the
nation's youths.

Post your views on MSNBC's Health Bulletin Board

Sex education begins with parents, the report says, but
schools play an important role because some parents are unable to give
their children all the information they need.
IN A FAR-REACHING report that touches on issues ranging
from teen sex to gays' mental health, Satcher called for beginning a
mature, thoughtful and respectful discussion nationwide about
sexuality.
Given the diversity of attitudes, beliefs, values and
opinions, Finding common ground might not be easy, the report
acknowledged, but it is possible.
The only course that is not acceptable, Satcher added, is
inaction.
       We've known we've had a problem for a long time — it's
time we admit we have a problem and do something about it, former
Surgeon General Joycelyn Elders told MSNBC.
Our efforts not only will have an impact on the current
health status of our citizens, but will lay a foundation for a healthier
society in the future, the report concludes.
The call to action is only a first step, Satcher said
— one of confronting the issue. Two years in the making, the report
begins by detailing the problem: 12 million Americans infected by
sexually transmitted diseases each year, with some 40,000 new HIV
infections; more than 100,000 children victimized by sexual abuse
annually; and nearly 1.4 million abortions in a year, with nearly half
of all pregnancies unwanted. An estimated 800,000 to 900,000 Americans
are now living with HIV. More than one in five women have been victims
of rape.
It also touches on some of the most contentious sexual
issues, calling on Americans to respect the diversity of sexual values
within any community.
It says there is no valid scientific evidence that one's
sexual orientation can be changed and details the consequences of
harassment on the mental health of gays and lesbians.
We have a responsibility to be more supportive and
proactive than judgmental, Satcher said. We're certainly not trying to
get anyone in any religious group to change their views. We're just
saying these are people, these are human beings.
Teens and sex•Thirty-nine percent of ninth-graders and
65 percent of twelfth-graders have engaged in intercourse.•Just over 8
percent of high-school students in 1999 said they'd had sex by age
13.•One in four sexually active teen-agers will contract at least one
STD. •Four in 10 girls become pregnant at least once before they reach
the age of 20 -- nearly 1 million a year.•Just 25 percent of sexually
experienced 15-to-17-years olds had ever been tested for HIV in 1998; 29
percent for other STDs.•Fifty-eight percent of sexually active
high-schoolers reported using a condom the last time they had
sex.•Three out of five Americans living with HIV were infected as
teens.•Gonorrhea rose 13 percent among teens between 1997 and 1999,
with teen-age girls having the highest rates of any females.•An
estimated 3 million people contract chlamydia each year in United
States; 40 percent of cases occur in 15-to-19-year-olds.Sources: CDC;
Kaiser Family Foundation; National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy
Sexuality education must be wide-ranging, begin early and
be available throughout one's life, the report says. It recommends that
sex-education programs discuss the benefits of abstinence from sex —
but also explain how to prevent unwanted pregnancies and sexually
transmitted diseases. It recommends improving access to reproductive
health care services for all persons in all communities.

Heritage raised 'several
million' in Hong Kong
Report claims conservative think-tank's
Asian office targeted pro-China tycoons
By Paul Sperry
© 2001 WorldNetDaily.com
WASHINGTON – The conservative Heritage Foundation, once a strong anti-communist
voice, has raised several million dollars in Hong Kong, with most of the money
coming from pro-Beijing tycoons, according to a report in the South China Morning
Post.
The think tank's fund-raising was coordinated through a shadowy Hong Kong shop first
uncovered by WorldNetDaily in January. Heritage says it's closing the office, which
has been run by a personal aide to the foundation's president, Edwin Feulner.

Feulner opened the office in 1996, the same year he brought aboard Elaine Chao as an
Asian scholar. Chao, now Labor Department secretary, has close family ties to
Chinese President Jiang Zemin through her father.

Heritage has targeted tycoons in Hong Kong and around the region, and money raised is
said to come mostly from a number of pro-China figures and property developers, said
the Morning Post's June 25 story.

The Hong Kong office's director, Kenneth Sheffer, admitted in written replies to
questions from the Hong Kong-based Morning Post that his office raised several
million dollars for the foundation, although he refused to
disclose the source of the money.

The article, which cites WorldNetDaily, went on to say that the revelation that money
is being funneled from Hong Kong to Washington is likely to cause concern among
Heritage Foundation supporters.

I think traditional conservatives in the U.S. would be interested to know how much
money would be perceived as pro-China money, the paper quoted Mark Simon, Apple
Daily's corporate-accounts director, who is active in co
nservative circles in Hong Kong, as saying.

WorldNetDaily, in its Jan. 24 story, quoted a Heritage fellow who said Chao was not
hired (at a starting salary of $200,000) to do research at the foundation, but to open
doors in China for Heritage's corporate donors.

He said she was no great scholar on Asia, but knew as much as she needed to know to
strike the deals over there.

The fellow added that Chao herself clearly had business interests in China, and has
taken a lot of trips to China while at Heritage.

In 1997, Chao reportedly led a delegation of Heritage's major donors and trustees to
the Hong Kong reunification ceremony.

Sheffer, in his written replies to the Morning Post, denied that the office was
involved in opening doors for donors on the mainland.

Heritage spokeswoman Khristine Bershers says the Hong Kong office was set up primarily
for scholars as a listening post in the region. It also provided a venue, she says,
for press events like the release of the foundat
ion's annual Index of Economic Freedom, which has ranked Hong Kong at the top.

Since Chao came aboard, the think tank has tilted more favorably toward China.

For instance, a long-time defense scholar was pushed out after warning too loudly of
the growing People's Liberation Army threat. And a paper urging caution on permanently
normalizing trade with Beijing was rewritten afte
r a Heritage donor, who is a key player in the pro-China corporate lobby, complained
and threatened to withdraw his support. The donor, Hank Greenberg, also supports
Chao's husband, GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Following the publication of WorldNetDaily's stories and subsequent media reports,
Feulner admitted to having toned down our rhetoric [on Communist China] over the
years.

Feulner, who sources say is obsessed with fund-raising, has visited Hong Kong often
and reportedly has done much of the fund-raising out of that office.

In Hong Kong, Heritage has sided with chief executive C.H. Tung, hand-picked by a
committee appointed by Beijing, over democratic opposition leader Martin Lee, the
Morning Post says.

Heritage Foundation has held banquets in honor of Mr. Tung, the paper said, and
Mr. Feulner has held meetings with the chief executive in Hong Kong.

In its mission statement, Heritage says it supports free enterprise, limited
government, individual freedom, traditional American values and a strong national
defense.

If you'd like to sound off on this issue, please take part in the WorldNetDaily
poll.

Re: [CTRL] Why this sudden concern re blood supply

Additionally, the proposal recommends that American
military personnel or dependents who have spent six months or more on a
base in Europe from the years 1980 through the end of 1996 be excluded
 from blood donation.

The issue with the blood supply has been addressed before. The Britlanders' and
their one-time tourists have been excluded from donating blood for quite a while. I
voiced this issue in several forums considering we, Americans, are constantly allied
and aligned with the Britlanders in various military operations. The potential
collaboration includes shared dining facilities and transfusions in combat theatres.

I personally contacted the ARC about the military personnel and their dependents
having exposure to local (European) meats and the effects of eating same. My
impression was they thought all the GIs ate exclusively on the installations or in
their quarters, dining on food imported from the U.S. Ooops. I ate as much off-
base as I did on.

Thanks for posting this article as I can see someone listened to me and whoever else
brought this issue to light. The further question is how involved do we, Americans,
want to be in European family squabbles given I and others, as veterans, may no
longer be able to support the blood donation efforts at home due to the imperialist
designs of our leaders. This sets up the military as a separate class of people
in the society, exposed to various environmental factors (BSE/vCJD, anthrax shots,
Gulf War syndrome, and other little warps and wrinkles) that may render them useless
in the long run. And this includes ALL elements of the uniformed services and may
even affect civilian personnel who spent time over there.

This brings to mind the attitude of Mad Maddy Albright who conveyed to Colin Powell
(or as I read) that the military was merely a tool, a puppet force to be used at
will in the grand imperial design. Such a nice personal observation from someone
whose family literally ran from European adversity in the 40ies. I think the Serbs
still have a bomb from a coupla years ago in the town whose people saved her way
back then.

The Back Half
Julia Pascal
Monday 25th June 2001

Mein Kampf made the Fuhrer a millionaire, and it has been enriching anonymous
charities. But in Germany, its sale is still illegal. Julia Pascal reports on the
ongoing struggle over this vile text
Germany, 1945. As the Allies liberate the country, thousands of Germans rush to bury
Mein Kampf in their gardens. The soil of the defeated is, literally, full of
Hitler's anti-Semitic ravings. Fifty-six years later, the book cannot be bought or
sold in Germany, and it remains buried. Is it time to release the book to a new
generation of Germans? Or would the unbanning result in a revival of Hitler's race-
hate? Most German and Jewish scholars I speak with think not, but the idea of
circulating Mein Kampf freely in Germany opens up many difficult questions about
freedom of speech and who stands to gain from Hitler's estate.
By the time of Hitler's death, eight million copies of Mein Kampf had been sold. The
book, bought by the state and given out to newlyweds in the Third Reich, made him a
millionaire. Six million copies were issued to couples by l942. Hitler's boast was
that Mein Kampf had the largest sales of any book worldwide, apart from the Bible.
His royalties were $1m a year.
Mein Kampf was written in the Bavarian prison fortress of Landsberg am Lech in 1923-
24, after Hitler's abortive beerhall putsch. Stylistically turgid and filled with
repetition, the first version was improved to hide that it was written by a half-
educated man. According to Hitler, the evil behind Germany's woes was the Jewish
people, who wanted to pollute Aryan womanhood and soil the Aryan bloodline, an
idea that is still common currency on neo-Nazi websites today. Anybody reading Mein
Kampf could not fail to be aware of Hitler's plans for Jews, the disabled, and those
others considered racially inferior. The book's original title was A Four and a
Half Year Struggle Against Lies, Stupidity and Cowardice. Hitler's publisher, Max
Amann of Franz Eher Verlag, persuaded him to choose the shorter version (mein
Kampf means my struggle).
Officially, Mein Kampf cannot be purchased in Germany, Hungary, Israel, Latvia,
Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland, but the book is readily available in
Russia, Romania, the United States and the UK (where it sells a regular 3,000 copies
annually).
Mein Kampf was first sold in the Czech lands in l936, and again in l993, both times
in abridged, annotated versions. In March 2000, the full Czech edition was published
by Otakar II. Publisher Michal Zitko printed 10,000 copies, whereas the average
Czech print run is 400. The German embassy in Prague requested that Zitko stop
distribution. Zitko refused. The new edition contained no commentary or
introduction, and the cover bore an eagle-and-swastika design. There were protests
by several organisations, including the Czech Romanies and the Czech Union of
Freedom Fighters. Tomas Kraus, the executive director of the Czech Federation of
Jewish Communities, says: To spread such a book as Mein Kampf freely in the market
is even more dangerous than its availability on the web. Fedor Gal, a Jew born in
the Terezin concentration camp (known to the Germans as Theresienstadt) and today a
Prague publisher, is equally damning: Using this book to make money is the
publishing business at its worst and most spoiled.
The copyright situation is complicated. In l933, Eher Verlag purchased the world
rights for Mein Kampf, selling it on to other publishers for translation. In Britain,
it ended up as part of Hutchinson's list. In 1939, Hut
chinson commissioned the Jewish emigre Ralph Mannheim to translate Hitler's race-hate
bible. This choice was not approved by Berlin.
After the war, Mein Kampf went on to Hutchinson's backlist, but was reprinted in l969.
Richard Cohen, now managing director of Richard Cohen Books, was Hutchinson's trade
publishing director in l985, and he recalls the tr
icky issue of how to deal with the book. The questions we faced at Hutchinson were:
what were a publisher's responsibilities when confronted with such a book, and should
we do anything to increase sales? The moral dilem
ma was solved by describing the book as vile on the dust jacket. Today's version,
now published by Pimlico, still calls it an evil book. Each new edition has
prompted a letter of complaint from the German government,
 Cohen adds.
Meanwhile, Hutchinson was bought by Random House, which in turn was purchased by the
German conglomerate Bertelsmann. The irony is not lost on Cohen: Thus Hitler's racist
tract, unavailable in German bookshops, will be p
ublished throughout Britain and the Commonwealth by a German company.
As for the German copyright, the state of Bavaria confiscated Hitler's assets after
the war, and controls all rights except for the English-language editions. In the

PRESS STATEMENT OF COMMISSIONER GLORIA TRISTANI
Re: Enforcement Bureau Letter Ruling on Indecency Complaint
Against WTXF-TV, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The FCC's Enforcement Bureau has dismissed an indecency complaint filed by
Ms. Cherie Degnan of Ambler, Pennsylvania. On January 23, 2001, Ms. Degnan
wrote to the FCC's Enforcement Bureau and explained that, earlier that day,
full frontal male and female nudity was broadcast as part of a News
Program on WTXF-TV of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. According to Ms.
Degnan, those images were broadcast at approximately 8:53 a.m. without
advance warning from the television station. The Enforcement Bureau
dismissed Ms. Degnan's complaint because, according to the Bureau, her
failure to provide a tape, transcript, or significant excerpts of the
broadcast prevented the Bureau from determining whether the images
broadcast were indecent in context.

At the outset, I would note that that the Bureau letter dismissing Ms.
Degnan's complaint seems to rely erroneously on the First Amendment to
justify the procedural hurdles involved with the filing of indecency
complaints. The Enforcement Bureau tells Ms. Degnan that the FCC generally
requires complainants to provide a full or partial tape or transcript or
significant excerpts of the program because a broadcaster's speech has
certain protections under the First Amendment.

In fact, the First Amendment has nothing to do with the Bureau's
evidentiary standard for complaint filing. The First Amendment simply
ensures that, once all the evidence is in, the FCC does not punish
broadcast speech that is not indecent. The First Amendment does not
require a certain level of proof in a citizen's complaint to the FCC. The
FCC is free to gather evidence however it wants - from complainants or from
broadcasters.

These complaint filing requirements (tape, transcript, or significant
excerpt) are not only unrelated to the First Amendment, they are
disconnected from reality. People do not normally tape or transcribe the
programs they are watching or listening to, and thus it is unfair to expect
people file such material with their complaints. If for some reason the
complainant happens to have that information, the easier it will be for the
Commission to evaluate the complaint. But failing to produce that kind of
documentation should not result in dismissal of indecency complaints, as is
the Bureau's general practice.

As to Ms. Degnan's specific complaint, there is no disagreement that
context is critical in determining whether the broadcast of a particular
statement or image is indecent. We know from Ms. Degnan's letter that
male and female frontal nudity was televised in the morning, when children
are likely to be in the audience. We also know that courts have affirmed
the Commission's ban on the broadcast of material that, in context,
depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by
contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or
excretory activities or organs. Since Ms. Degnan's complaint appears to
describe the televised broadcast of sexual organs - in her words full
frontal male and female nudity - during the time of day when indecent
broadcasting is prohibited, it is certainly possible that the Bureau would
have found an indecency violation. In my view, the complaint contained
sufficient evidence to begin an investigation into whether the context of
this nudity amounted to an indecent broadcast. At a minimum, Ms. Degnan's
complaint merited more than the summary dismissal it received from the Bureau.

In sum, the Bureau has continued to enforce unreasonable filing
requirements for indecency complaints (tape, transcript, or significant
excerpt). The Bureau then failed to mitigate that problem by deciding not
to contact WTXF to inquire about Ms. Degnan's complaint. The Bureau's
action - or inaction - in this case will further embolden broadcasters to
ignore the FCC's rules against indecent broadcasting, and in so doing,
encourage them to air material that is harmful to children.

I sincerely hope the Commission will reevaluate its handling of indecency
complaints. The indecency complaint process, as presently configured,
tilts sharply in favor of broadcasters and against members of the public
who wish to register an indecency complaint. Surely there is a more
effective way of enforcing Congress's ban on indecent broadcasting while
affording all due fairness

There are extremists on both sides. It is my opinion that the
Israeli extremists are more of a threat to peace then the
Palestinian extremists. The whole key to reaching a real
settlement are the Extremist Settlements. Unless these

These settlements are the equivilant of setting up a KKK

They want to goad the Palestinians into committing

Now they are going to pay dearly for the immense stupidity of Yassir Arafat.

It wouldn't matter if God himself came down to lead the Palestinians. They
are going to pay dearly because they are in the way of the Israeli. It's
okay. We all expect it. The painful part is watching the cat playing with
the mouse. We did a better job of it on the Native Americans, but no one was
watching. The whole world is watching Israel, so they feel they must go
slowly and make up a lot of hogwash to make their actions palatable. Israel
will not be happy until every Palestinian is dead and gone--maybe just dead
or gone, but one of the two options is all that will satify. We all know
this. Just don't ask us to think it's great because you do. No one can or
will stop you. Why do you think we should love, approve and respect you?

Re: [CTRL] Clintons' hit squad

2001-06-29 Thread YnrChyldzWyld

-Caveat Lector-

From: Steve:
 Bush
even set up the economy for Clinton so that those who are ignorant would
believe the booming economy was created by Clinton.

I seriously doubt this is true. Bush created a mini recession that
continued
into the early Clinton years.

The recession continued into the Clinton administration, but the Clinton
administration manipulated things so that the spin put on it made it seem
like the economy was doing better than it really was...

Case in point...I was laid off during the administration of Bush Sr. I duly
reported to my local unemployment office, registered to collect unemployment
but also got along doing temporary and/or part-time work...

Even though some weeks I made more than would get me an unemployment check,
I was still kept on the list for the full term I was unemployed, which was
just over 3 months.

In early 1993 I was laid off again...this was just at the beginning of the
first Clinton administration, and again I was kept on the unemployment list
for the full 36 weeks allowed, even though many weeks I got no unemployment
compensation because of either still getting 'golden parachute' payouts from
my ex-employer, or working part-time or temp jobs...

But when I again found myself 'between jobs' a few years later, if I had 4
weeks (which did not have to be consecutive) where I was not paid an
unemployment check due to making 'too much' from a part-time or temp job, I
was immediately dropped from the unemployment list. In other words, if I
had a temp job for one week that paid me too much to collect unemployment,
and then I didn't have another temp/contract position for another week which
then only lasted 2 weeks, and then I had to wait a couple of days before the
agencies found me another temp/contract position, I ended up being dropped
from the unemployment rolls because even though I had periods of
unemployment between the temp positions, they added up to 4 weeks of what
was deemed 'employment'. The way they were now keeping records, as long as
there were 4 weeks in total where you didn't get paid unemployment, they
decided you were 'employed'. The 4 weeks could have occured over a span of
several months, it didn't matter. To continue collecting, I would have had
to report again, and file a whole new set of paperwork. I didn't bother.

Yet I knew that I was not alone in this category...many well-trained workers
(especially in the data processing and tech fields) who got laid off and
got by' doing part-time and temp/contract work at a fraction of the salary
we used to get...but the Clinton administration could point to the monthly
unemployment statistics and claim that 'unemployment is down'...when in
reality they were dropping people from the lists who previously would have
remained on the lists for months, albeit without getting unemployment checks
because we were working these part-time and/or temp jobs...

[CTRL] HE'S BAAACK: Elliot Abrams

2001-06-29 Thread radman

-Caveat Lector-

HE'S BAAACK:

Elliot Abrams, a key figure in the Reagan-era Iran-Contra scandal, was
named yesterday to a senior position on the National Security Council.
Abrams's notorious history will be familiar to many Nation readers. Not
only did he plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of lying to Congress
about the Reagan Administration's Contra program, he was also one of the
fiercest ideological pugilists of the 1980s, proudly billing himself as a
gladiator for the Reagan Doctrine in Central America--which entailed
assisting murderous right-wing regimes and dismissing and whitewashing
their myriad human rights violations. Conveniently, Abrams was able to
avoid discussion of his infamous past by virtue of the fact that his new
position does not require Senate approval.

Read David Corn's recent examination of Abrams currently at:

[CTRL] Noam Chomsky: Behind the Headlines on Colombia

2001-06-29 Thread radman

-Caveat Lector-

http://www.media-alliance.org/mediafile/20-3/chomsky.html

  Volume 20 # 3
May / June 2001
Noam Chomsky: Behind the Headlines on Colombia
an interview by David Barsamian

DB: Talk about evolving U.S. policy in Colombia. The Interhemispheric
Resource Center in Albuquerque has issued a statement: U.S. Policy in
Colombia: Towards a Vietnam Quagmire. Do you think that's an appropriate
analogy? The New York Times writes in an editorial titled Dangerous Plans
for Colombia that the aid to Colombia risks dragging the United States
into a costly counterinsurgency war.
NC: I don't like the phrase Vietnam quagmire for Vietnam or Colombia. Were
the Russians caught in a quagmire in Afghanistan? They shouldn't have
invaded. The problem with the Afghan war is not that the Russians got caught
in a quagmire. It's that they shouldn't have invaded the country. The same
is true of the U.S. and Vietnam. The fact that it became costly to the U.S.,
which is what a quagmire means, is irrelevant. The U.S. invaded South
Vietnam and destroyed it, along with much of the rest of Indochina. So I
think we ought to keep away from the phrase.

DB: Interestingly, the IRC is an alternative organization.

NC: They do wonderful work, but the problem in Colombia is not whether the
U.S. will get dragged into a war. That's a minor issue. The major issue is
what this is all about. Take a look at today's New York Times and Boston
Globe. Both papers happen to have articles about this issue, although I'm
not sure they entirely realize the connection. The Times has an article on
Bolivia, where farmers are staging big protests. One background reason is
that there are farmers who have been compelled to grow coca because there
are no other options. The U.S. has come in with crop destruction programs
and counterinsurgency operations which have destroyed their coca crops, and
now they're starving. So they're among those who are protesting, though the
immediate causes are different.

Bolivia is one of the poorest countries of the world. So first they are
driven to coca production by the Washington consensus and IMF/World Bank
programs which say, You've got to open your country up to agriculture and
other imports and you have to be a rational peasant producing for the
agro-export market trying to maximize profit. You put those conditions
together and it spells c-o-c-a. A rational peasant producing for the
agro-export market when the country is being flooded by subsidized Western
agricultural production is going to be producing coca. Then the West comes
in and violently wipes it out, and they end up with peasants protesting in
the streets. That's what is going on in Bolivia.
The Boston Globe has a good article on Colombia by a reporter in one of the
areas that's targeted for the new program where the United States is
planning to come in to destroy the crops. That's actually a cover for
eliminating the guerrillas. These are areas that are under guerrilla control
and have been for a long time.
DB: This is the FARC, the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias Colombianas.

NC: There's another guerrilla organization, the ELN, Ejército de Liberación
Nacional, but it's mainly FARC. Those are the areas that are targeted by the
new program. The paramilitaries are up to their neck, as the military is, in
narco-trafficking, but they're not targeted by the program. So the military
program happens to be concentrated in the areas of guerrilla control and not
the areas of military and paramilitary control, although it's well known
that they're deep into narco-trafficking in pretty much the same way the
guerrillas are, namely the paramilitaries tax production, just like the
guerrillas. In fact, the involvement of the guerrillas in coca production is
just that they tax everything.

What does the Boston Globe article on Colombia say? Colombia peasants are
terrified because there are rumors going around that the U.S.-Colombian
program is going to start fumigating. If they fumigate, it's going to be
like Bolivia. That will destroy their crops. In fact, they'll destroy not
only the coca crops but maybe other crops.

The chemical and biological warfare that the U.S. carries out, and that's
what it is, may say it's going after coca, but it has unknown consequences
for the rest of the ecology. It's an experiment, after all, and these are
third world people. You just carry out experiments. You don't know what's
going to happen. If it destroys the forests, too bad, we'll change the mix
next time. So Colombians are terrified that the programs are going to wipe
out their livelihoods. They probably don't know about Bolivia, but then
they'll be like Bolivian peasants whose protests are described in the New
York Times.

These are two New York Times-owned newspapers, incidentally, so we're
talking about two branches of the New York Times discussing different
aspects of the policy as it affects the poor people, the peasants.

Here we're getting to the issues, not the

What is your source for this recession?
http://www.gserc.usm.edu/united_states_economy.htm

As Mark Twain once opined, You have lies, and you have god-damned lies, and
then you have statistics...

As I explained in a previous post, the Clinton administration manipulated
things so that it would SEEM that things were better, when they in fact were
not. People like me were being dropped from unemployment and deemed
employed' when we were lucky to be scraping by making a fraction of what we
d made when really employed. While perhaps technically true that we were
employed', it was a gross distortion to then claim that 'employment is up'
when you had computer programmers, engineers, and other technical people
working in clerical positions just to keep a roof over their heads...

The 'employment figures' during the Clinton administration don't show the
thousands of highly trained factory workers who'd previously made good
salaries who found themselves without jobs when their factories pulled up
roots and moved south of the border, and these workers now had to get by
flipping burgers or working part-time clerical jobs...

It also doesn't reflect the fact that not only did these workers finds
themselves having to work for a fraction of their previous salaries, but
also found that they no longer had medical/dental insurance, did not get
paid holidays or paid vacations...

But heck, according to the Clinton administration, we were 'employed'...and
we were the ones included in those figures they presented to bolster the
claim that 'employment is up'.

First Artificial Intelligence to Undergo Formal Human Psychological
 Evaluation

SAN DIEGO, CA -- 06/29/2001 -- For the first time a standard psychological
test known as the MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory)
used
by clinicians world wide in the evaluation and treatment of adults will be
administered to a machine based artificial personality.

GAC (Generic Artificial Consciousness) - pronounced 'Jack' - is the
artificial personality being developed at the Mindpixel Digital Mind
Modeling Project (www.mindpixel.com) with the collaboration of nearly
40,000
internet users from more than 200 countries worldwide. GAC will be
evaluated
using the MMPI-2 over the next several months to assess it's learning of
human consensus experience from the Mindpixel project's large and diverse
group of users from many different cultures. The test will be supervised
and
interpreted by Dr. Robert Epstein, one of the world's leading experts on
 human and machine behavior.

Nothing like this has ever been attempted, said Epstein. We're
evaluating
thousands of people worldwide as if they were one collective individual.

We don't know if it is possible to build a normal personality out of
millions of little pieces. This experiment will tell us how reasonable the
 idea is, said Epstein.

In the nearly one year the project has been online, Mindpixel's Internet
contributors have made nearly 8 million individual measurements of more
than
355,000 individual items of human consensus experience. The project's
organizers hope that they will gain enough information by the time the
project's data collection phase is complete in 2010, to build a highly
accurate statistical model of an average human mind which they hope can be
used as a foundation for true artificial consciousness.

 About Dr. Robert Epstein:

One of the world's leading experts on human and machine behavior, Robert
Epstein received his doctorate in psychology at Harvard University in
1981.
He is Editor-in-Chief of Psychology Today magazine and University Research
Professor at United States International University in San Diego. He is
also
the founder and Director Emeritus of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral
Studies in Massachusetts and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at San Diego
State University. He was also the former director of the famed Loebner
Prize
 competition in Artificial Intelligence.

 About Mindpixel:

The Mindpixel Digital Mind Modeling Project (www.mindpixel.com) was
launched
on July 6, 2000. It is the world's largest artificial Intelligence effort
with nearly 40,000 contributing members in more than 200 countries.

 About the MMPI-2:

Developed as a specialized psychological test for the measurement of
psychopathology, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)
has
been the preferred psychosocial diagnostic instrument among clinicians for
the past 50 years. The MMPI originally published in 1940 by Hathaway and
McKinley, has been implemented in many clinical and non-clinical contexts,
including medical, educational, medicolegal and organisational settings. A
restandardisation and partial revision of the MMPI resulted in the
publication of the MMPI-2 in 1989.

I seriously doubt this is true. Bush created a mini recession that
 continued
 into the early Clinton years.

What is your source for this recession?
 http://www.gserc.usm.edu/united_states_economy.htm

As Mark Twain once opined, You have lies, and you have god-damned lies,
 and
 then you have statistics...

As I explained in a previous post, the Clinton administration manipulated
things so that it would SEEM that things were better, when they in fact
 were
not. People like me were being dropped from unemployment and deemed
employed' when we were lucky to be scraping by making a fraction of what
 we
d made when really employed.

But heck, according to the Clinton administration, we were
 'employed'...and
we were the ones included in those figures they presented to bolster the
 claim that 'employment is up'.

[CTRL] Pot Smoker Ad Madness

2001-06-29 Thread flw

-Caveat Lector-

Oregon Pro-Pot Smoker Ad Starts Media Frenzy
   http://www.drcnet.org/wol/192.html#neighbors

We're Jeff and Tracy. We're your good neighbors. We smoke
pot.

So reads the large, bold-face type at the top of a full-page
advertisement that appeared this week in an Oregon alternative
weekly, the Willamette Week. Beneath the bold type is a photo of
the Oregon couple -- a normal looking pair -- and more text
detailing their views about the normality of marijuana smoking
and their struggle to find a media outlet that would let them air
their views.

The couple, Jeff Jarvis and Tracy Johnson, both 39, of Bend,
Oregon, only wanted to publicize their position that marijuana
users are normal people, too, but because of the refusal by
various media to air their ad, their effort has grown into a
full-fledged local media frenzy. At first, Jarvis and Johnson
went to local rock radio stations seeking to air a 30-second spot
(reproduced in the print ad), but none would touch it.
Portland's KUFO-FM turned them down, and so did KNRK-FM, KGON-FM,
KKRZ-FM, KKCW-FM and KEX-AM, as well as Bend rock station KXIX-
FM, which, the ad notes, proclaims 4:20 to be the happiest
moment on Earth. Go figure.

The rejections didn't stop there. The ad agency that handles
advertising for the Portland mass transit agency, Obie Media,
nixed that plan. And Portland's leading newspaper, the
Oregonian, rejected a Sunday print ad as unsuitable for
publication.

Those radio stations did us a great favor by rejecting our ad,
Jarvis told DRCNet. These are stations that are constantly
joking about pot, but they wouldn't buy our ad. Now everyone
wants to talk about it. One station said our ad would 'frighten
mothers,' and this is a station that broadcasts the Howard Stern
show!

In fact, when DRCNet caught up with the couple on Thursday, they
were heading out the door to drive to Portland, where a planned
vacation weekend had morphed into a series of media interviews.

Why did the couple come out of the closet? I can't point to any
one thing, said Jarvis. It just came down to deciding that we
had had enough. We're pretty patient people, but we decided we
had to step up to the plate. We're not really activists -- I
volunteered at the Portland NORML booth once in 1998 -- but we've
been watching and seeing people do good things. The activists
have laid the groundwork, but now I think we've reached critical
mass and it is time for the average Joe to stand up and say
'yeah, we're here.' When more people stand up, it'll be over in
the blink of an eye.

The ad was designed to raise public awareness, said Jarvis, and
as a result of the media censorship, it has succeeded far beyond
the couple's expectations. But, said Jarvis, This is also a
personal declaration of who I am. Don't be surprised if you find
out I get high. And we're not alone. This country is thick with
pot smokers. I can't believe how rampant underground marijuana
consumption is. It's everywhere.

As for the future, said Jarvis, the couple intend to get back to
their normal lives. This was our 15 minutes of fame, he said,
well, okay, maybe 30 minutes. We had thought about this for
months, and now we've done it, but we don't intend to continue to
do this. We can't afford it; we drive an '86 Honda.

The couple has, however, been heartened by the flood of responses
their saga has generated. We've been flooded with e-mails, and
not one has been critical, said Jarvis. We even heard from the
Pot Pride people.

That's right, said Mikki Norris of Pot Pride
(http://www.chrisconrad.com/potpride/), an organization devoted
to normalizing the image of marijuana users. I think Jeff and
Tracy did a very courageous thing, and an innovative one. This
hasn't been done before, that I know of. I commend them for
doing it.

But Norris added that Jarvis and Johnson had certain advantages
that lessened the risk involved in coming out. They are self-
employed, so they don't have to fear that they'll lose their jobs
for coming out of the closet, pointed out Norris. We want to
see people going public, but for other people, it might make
sense to come out first to their friends and family and see how
that plays. Once you come out to friends and family, you can
hopefully gain their love and support as you take it to the next
level.

Norris thinks the Pot Pride movement should also be looking at
creating support groups similar to P-FLAG, the organization of
parents and friends of gay people. We could use support groups
of family and friends of pot smokers, said Norris. If they can
help educate the public, explain that pot smokers are good people
and contributing members of society, then that will open a lot of
minds.

As for the ad idea, said Norris, more people should try it.

The print ad cost $2,555, said Jarvis. At that rate, 50 people
chipping in $50 each could go public. A fair price to out
oneself?

Pentagon investing in lasers, gizmos

http://www.news24.co.za/News24/Technology/Science_Nature/0,1113,2-13-46_1044142,00.html

by Jim Wolf

Washington - The American defense department said on Tuesday it was pouring
billions of research dollars into high-energy lasers, microwave systems and
a host of other advanced gizmos designed to win 21st-century wars more
quickly and decisively than ever.

Development of such wizardry - along with unmanned systems for land, air,
space, sea and underwater uses - was to counter the spread of ``asymmetric''
threats to US forces over the past decade, Pentagon officials told Congress.

Among perceived unconventional threats, they cited ballistic missiles,
possibly tipped with nuclear, chemical or biological weapons;
keyboard-launched ``information operations,'' for instance against US
military satellites and ``terrorism.''

``We must be conscious of these threats as we foster technology
breakthroughs ... to cope with that environment,'' Edward Aldridge, the
Pentagon's chief weapons buyer, told the House Armed Services Research and
Development Subcommittee.

He did not spell out precisely how many billions would go to defense
research and development in President Bush's 2002 budget blueprint, but
under a provisional budget plan, the sum was to have risen 8.1 percent to
$48.6 billion.

The Defense Department employs 28 500 scientists and engineers in its 84
laboratories and research and development centers - down 42 percent from
43,800 at the end of 1990, said Aldridge, the department's under secretary
for acquisition, technology and logistics.

Fruits of research

The subcommittee hearing featured presentations by the armed services and
defense agencies of the fruits of their research. They included a
top-hat-sized, sensor-equipped hovering vehicle designed to replace human
scouts searching for enemy troops. Dubbed ``Private Jones,'' the army green
``organic air vehicle'' was developed by the Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency.

Aldridge divided US defense needs into three categories: ''hard problems,''
or significant technical challenges that, if solved, would check a
significant threat; ``revolutionary war-fighting concepts,'' and militarily
significant research areas.

``Hard problems'' include developing a remote capability to detect and
identify potentially toxic chemical and biological agents and to forecast
their dispersion through a battlefield.

Another challenge is coming up with munitions capable of knocking out deeply
buried targets.

For ``revolutionary war-fighting concepts,'' new technologies are being
worked on for ``fuller dominance of space.'' Key areas include affordable
space transportation including advanced propulsion and long-lasting power
systems; sensing technologies for space surveillance and protection of US
assets in space.

Also needed are network systems that communicate among themselves and
operationally responsive and reliable networks and tools for boiling down
vast amounts of information.

In militarily significant research, a priority is the ''generation, storage,
use and projection of electrical and other forms of power throughout the
battle-space,'' he said.

Aldridge said the administration was gearing up for technology to intercept
ballistic missiles in all stages of their flight. This implies a layered
anti-missile defense, possibly including space-based, sea-based and
air-based interceptors in addition to the ground-based system envisaged
under former President Bill Clinton.

``Direct-energy'' weapons like lasers also had the potential to shoot down
ballistic missiles as they were lifting off as well as to defeat high-speed
anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles, Aldridge told the panel.

Frank sex talk? What about all this garbage on television these days -
and we have Rosie, and Ellen and now Paula Poundstone who will not enter

Give us some PROOF for your allegations.

As for Paula Poundstone, if she is found guilty IN A COURT OF LAW, I hope
they lock her up and throw away the key.

Until then, under our system of government, she is innocent until PROVEN
guilty...

Seems the biggest problem in this country is HIV/AIDS,

That's bullshit. More people die in car accidents or from smoking than will
die from AIDS. We have a bigger problem with unwed teenage mothers than we
do from HIV/AIDS.

As us white people used to say, we never locked our doors at
nightwonder why things are so different now?

Nothing's different, it's just discussed more is all.

As for locking your doors, my white grandmother always locked her doors,
even back in the days before WWI...they lived in a 'decent' neighborhood,
and it scandalized the neighbors that my grandmother would do this (they
thought it was casting aspersions on them)...whatever, my grandmother was
quite an astute woman, and knew that you couldn't trust anyone who wasn't
immediate family...

Re: [CTRL] Fw: UNDERSTANDING THE REPTOID PROBLEM

-Caveat Lector-

The major problem with the reptoid problem is belief. There is no actual
hard evidence to either prove or disprove the existence of the reptoids. A
classic proof would be to have a logger cut down a tree in a rain forest
(don't freak out steve77) and find a reptoid pointing a blaster at him. The
last thing he would heard would be the reptoid saying, Die, human scum!. Of
course, there would have to be witnesses to this major event in human
history, otherwise the story would not get out.

Then of course, the Hollywood movie industry would do it's best to bury the
story so they could continue to make those horrid B class, alien invasion
films.

[CTRL] Rabbi Chats With Messiah

2001-06-29 Thread Yardbird

-Caveat Lector-

Rabbi tells of conversation with Messiah

FROM SAM KILEY IN JERUSALEM

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,3-200110,00.html

ISRAELS ultra-Orthodox Sephardi community was engulfed in a wave of
religious optimism after Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, spiritual leader of the Shas
party, said that he had conversed with the Messiah in a dream.
Rabbi Yosef, the former Sephardi Chief Rabbi, who recently said that Arabs
were snakes and should be annihilated, told his followers that he had the
dream on Friday.

Rabbi Ben-Zion Mutzafi, one of his followers, said that Rabbi Yosef had
told him that in his dream at the Western Wall plaza and in all of
Jerusalem there were only Jews . . . There were no non-Jewish foreigners
there. They had already been expelled (before the coming of the Messiah).
The Saviour was said to have exhorted Jewish children to study the Torah,
the Jewish Bible. He had told the Iraqi-born Rabbi Yosef: Anyone who is
for God should come to me, so that there will be teachers to teach them
Torah. Not one school will remain without Torah. Everyone will study
Torah.

The rabbis party, Shas, holds 17 of the 120 seats in the Knesset and has a
wide following among the working class and the ultra-Orthodox. Under Ehud
Barak it held the balance of power in parliament and extracted huge
subsidies for its religious schools. Its former political leader, Arieh
Deri, is serving six years in jail for fraud.

These mundane dramas have done nothing to dampen enthusiasm for Rabbi
Yosefs vision. Eliyahu Shai, the Shas chairman and Internal Affairs
Minister, said yesterday: Every Jew who is waiting for the Messiah sees in
the dream . . . significant tidings in anticipation of salvation.

Rabbi Mutzafi said: Until now we have not heard of anyone who saw the
Messiah in a dream. These things are evidence that salvation is nigh.

A thought just occured to me, don't know if it's an orginal thought or one
that the reptoids beamed into my head.
Could it be that illegal drugs and their addiction are a control mechanism
used by the reptoids to control the human population? Just think about it,
everytime you do a joint or a line, you are helping the reptoids to keep
the
 human population under their control.

 Sweet dreams,

Pam Schuffert of Germany (daughter of legendary former high level
Air Force officer Jake Schuffert)

Legendary, eh? So who was he?

Nessie, some info I have on file:

John H. Jake Schuffert
Master Sergeant, United States Air Force

From a contemporary press report:

John H. Jake Schuffert, 79, a retired Department of Defense graphics
supervisor who was creator of Here's Jake, a popular cartoon feature in
Airman magazine, died of cancer November 2, 1998 at his home in Alexandria,
Virginia.

Mr. Schuffert's single-panel cartoons, which appeared in Airman for the last
50 years, poked fun at GIs and officers and often depicted everyday
situations faced by service members. With comical characters and sardonic
wit, Mr. Schuffert turned the bureaucracy of the Pentagon and the
relationships between maintenance crews and pilots into the stuff of humor.

His most recent cartoons appear in this month's issue of Airman.

I think the reason the cartoons are popular is because I was in the Air
Force and understand the life of bluesuiter, Mr. Schuffert said in an
interview with Airman magazine in October.

He spent 23 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1963 as a master sergeant.
But not all of his time in the military could be used for fodder of the
cartoon feature. Soon after enlisting in the Army Air Corps, he became an
airborne radio operator-gunner and was assigned to the 464th Bomb Group with
the 15th Air Force in Africa and Italy. Aside from using his artistic
talents to decorate the sides of aircraft with paintings, he had few outlets
for his creativity.

He flew 50 missions during World War II, including the famed bombing raids
on the oil fields of Ploesti, Romania. When his B-24 became disabled, Mr.
Schuffert and his crewmates bailed out of the plane, and they spent several
months in Yugoslavia before making their way back to Italy.

Mr. Schuffert, a native of New Castle, Pa., once took correspondence courses
in art and cartooning, and he began drawing cartoons for the Task Force
Times, a newspaper for troops participating in the Berlin Airlift. He also
contributed cartoons to the Pacific Stars and Stripes and the Air Force
Times.

By 1963, he left active military duty and began his civil service career,
first as an illustrator with the Army Signal Corps at the Pentagon and then
with the Air Force graphics office. He retired in 1986.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Schuffert of Alexandria; two
children, John Joseph Schuffert of Brunswick, Ga., and Pamela Schuffert of
Alexandria; two brothers; and a sister.

 SCHUFFERT, JOHN H.

On November 2, 1998, of Alexandria, VA, beloved husband of Dorothy
Schuffert; father of Pamela and John Joseph Schuffert; brother of Walter
and Henry Schuffert and Kate Rich, all of New Castle, PA.Services will
be held on December 3 at 11 a.m. at the Ft. Myer Chapel. Interment
Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions to the Hospice of Northern Virginia, 4715 N. 15th St.,
Arlington,
VA 22205.

July 9th Is Buy A Gun Day – Pass It On

by Ed Cobb

June 29, 2001

http://www.lewrockwell.com/e-cobb/e-cobb8.html

The UN is having a party next week. Since there is a good chance that if
you are reading this you are US taxpayer you will undoubtedly be pleased
and proud to know that this status entitles you to foot the bill for the
lion’s share of the shindig. It begins on July 9th. It will be a theme
party and a grand time is anticipated by all. The theme will be Illicit
Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons. The Small Arms Soiree will be
held in the UN’s home city of New York. That happens to be my home city
too. I got out and I wish they would too.

As always, the UN is looking out for you and me and the rest of the
little guys in the world being as how they are above feathering their
own nest with more power, perks and property. They simply want to
protect us from illicit arms. Illicit is an interesting word in that
you cannot really say what it means until you know what is licit. The
UN, being the well intentioned expert body, gets to decide what licit
means and there’s the rub. Really, there is the first rub. There are
many and most of them rub me the wrong way.

There is also the matter of defining the small in small arms and the
light in light weapons. As far as I can tell those words mean any
firearm that you or I might possibly own. At least that is where it will
start. It could probably be expanded to mean swords, pikes, bows and
arrows, slingshots and your Swiss Army knife as well but give them time.
An elitist cabal has to start somewhere, after all. World government
wasn’t built in a day, you know.

The party is all for a good cause. I’ll bet you can guess what it is if
you will give it a moment’s thought. That right! It’s for the children!
The UN’s web site will tell you, Hundreds of thousands of children have
been among the victims of small arms. The small matter of child victims
of government bombs and policies remains UN-addressed. Different party,
I guess. And the people who have earned their freedom and protected
their own lives and the lives of others with small arms never get
invited to these UN parties anyway. Just not A List caliber (oops,
poor word choice).

Naturally, there will be games at the party. One highlight is expected
to come when the pre-feudal third world dictatorships and the
Euro-socialists form a conga line and attempt to define internationally
recognized standards and provisions regarding marking, record keeping
and import / export control of firearms. Won’t that be great? The
UN-elected, UN-accountable, UN-believably self-righteous UN will tell us
how to make our guns, how we will have to track them and how, where,
when and to whom we can sell them. I can see why they are so excited!
It’s good to be King Kofi.

The Small Arms Soiree is a really big deal in left wing, statist, world
government, we know best so you better do as we say or we’ll bomb you
too circles. Big like the Oscars. And like the Oscars, the main event is
inspiring offshoot (sorry, another poor choice of words) parties. The
International Action Network on Small Arms, I’m not making this up, is
so excited by all of this self-serving Big Brother action that they have
designated July 9th as Small Arms Destruction Day. Well, la di da.

The International Action yadda yadda yadda is based in London. If you
have been paying attention you already know how well England’s gun ban
is going. It has been a major success. If you are a member of the
government or organized crime (I hate redundancy. Hate it.), that is.
These Brit boys are positively giddy about this whole deal and have
called for public events wherein small arms will be destroyed. If you
are a criminal this is a great labor saving service as you will know the
safest place to ply your trade well in advance. So thoughtful, those
Brits.

Now remember to keep all of this in perspective and not get too carried
away. It is small arms and light weapons that are the enemy here and
that should be destroyed on July 9th. Don’t expect the UN or any of its
member states to be tossing tanks, or jet fighters or, heaven forbid,
nukes onto the bonfire. That’s not happening, folks. But you should feel
free – actually, since this is the UN, you should feel compelled – to
drop by and toss a Colt Python or a nice lever action Winchester onto
the fire. For the children.

Or here’s an even better idea. Celebrate the opening of the Small Arms
Soiree and Small Arms Destruction Day in true liberty loving American
fashion. Buy a

[CTRL] Fwd: [FAIR-L] Why Wasn't Kissinger Asked About War Crimes Charges?

2001-06-29 Thread William Shannon

 FAIR-L
Fairness Accuracy in Reporting
Media analysis, critiques and news reports

ACTION ALERT: Why Wasn't Kissinger Asked About War Crimes Charges?

June 29, 2001

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was summoned last month to appear
at the French Palace of Justice to answer questions about murders and
disappearances in Chile in the 1970s. While the story was carried by major
European news outlets, it has received relatively little coverage in U.S.
media.

French authorities wanted to ask Kissinger, who was visiting Paris, about
Operation Condor, the terror network set up by the governments of Chile,
Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Ecuador and Bolivia. Evidence that the
U.S. government was aware of and lent support to Operation Condor has been
available for years (see The Nation, 8/9-16/99; New York Times, 3/6/01). The
French magistrate who summoned Kissinger was particularly interested in what
light he might shed on the disappearances of five French nationals who
disappeared in Chile during or shortly after the U.S.-supported coup there
in 1973.

But the French courts would learn nothing from Kissinger, who left town the
day after being summoned without answering any questions.

After the episode in France, Kissinger did a lengthy, one-on-one interview
with PBS's Charlie Rose (6/20/01). Kissinger also appeared alone with CNN's
Wolf Blitzer (6/21/01) and Fox News Channel's Paula Zahn (6/13/01). None of
the interviews even mentioned the French attempt to question Kissinger about
human rights abuses. Nor did any of the journalists bring up the question of
whether Kissinger might be indictable on war crimes charges, as journalist
Christopher Hitchens argued in a two-part Harper's magazine article (2/01,
3/01).

Was there an agreement that the interviewers would avoid raising such
uncomfortable issues for Kissinger? Charlie Rose was recently accused of
making such an agreement with Roger Ailes, the chairman of Fox News Channel.
In an interview with the New York Times Magazine (6/24/01), Ailes claimed
that he had written assurance from Rose that he would not be asked about
politics during his May 22 interview. Yvette Vega, the executive producer
for the Charlie Rose Show, told FAIR that she was unaware of any such deal
with Ailes.

But Kissinger himself seemed to have this kind of agreement with the
National Press Club in Washington, DC, where Kissinger spoke on June 21.
Noting that none of the questions asked of Kissinger, chosen from written
questions submitted by the audience, dealt with war crimes or human rights
investigations, journalists Russell Mokhiber and Robert Weissman asked Press
Club moderator Richard Koonce if there was some sort of arrangement to avoid
these topics.

According to Mokhiber and Weissman, Koonce explained that there was a
definite sensitivity to those kinds of questions, and that Kissinger was
afraid that if we got into a discussion of that, for the vast majority of
people that, it would take so much time to explain all of the context, that,
you know, he preferred to avoid that.

Which raises the question: If a former Secretary of State receiving a
summons about his knowledge of murder, torture and disappearances is not
news, then what is?

ACTION: Please contact Charlie Rose and ask why he failed to ask Henry
Kissinger about the newsworthy issues of human rights investigations and war
crimes charges. You might also contact the National Press Club to voice your
disappointment that journalists were not allowed to press Kissinger on these
matters.

[CTRL] MI 5 and Isralis use gerbils to detect terrorists?

2001-06-29 Thread Schmidt

Strange but true. Check my weblog daily

http://leviathan.weblogs.com

MI5's secret plan to recruit gerbils as spycatchers
By Michael Smith, Defence Correspondent

MI5 considered using a team of highly-trained gerbils to detect spies and terrorists
flying into Britain during the 1970s, Sir Stephen Lander, the service's
director-general, revealed yesterday.
The plan was based on the ability of gerbils to detect a rise in adrenalin from
changes in the scent of human sweat. Sir Stephen said the Israelis had put the idea
into practice, placing gerbil cages to the side of security checks for travellers at
Tel Aviv airport. A suitably placed fan wafted the scent of the suspect's sweat into
the cage.

The gerbils were trained by Pavlovian response to press a lever if they detected
increased adrenalin, receiving food as a reward. The system was never put into
practice by MI5 because the Israelis were forced to abandon it after they found that
the gerbil could not tell the difference between terrorists and passengers who were
scared of flying.

Speaking at a conference at the Public Record Office in Kew, Sir Stephen said MI5
archives contained a complete volume on the idea - which was based on Canadian
research for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police - written in the 1970s.

Although Dame Stella Rimington made a practice of speaking publicly in an attempt to
change MI5's secretive reputation, yesterday's Missing Dimension conference was only
the second occasion that Sir Stephen has done so.

The conference marks a new PRO exhibition on espionage, Shaken Not Stirred, starting
today, which includes exhibits on a number of spies including Mata Hari and a spy paid
the equivalent of £6.5 million by King George I to spy on the Stuarts.

The Missing Dimension refers to the fact that most histories are written before
intelligence files have been released and so omit a crucial element of what occurred
and why. Sir Stephen admitted that it would be a long time before MI5 would be able to
release details of its Cold War activities.

THE FOUNDERS

A republic ... if you can keep it. --Benjamin Franklin

__O__
FEDERALIST PERSPECTIVE

The BIG news this week, Reagan Republicanism comes roaring back!
(Quisling RINOs, beware!) In a stunning demonstration that even the
Garden State of New Jersey is not a lost cause for The Federalist's
brand of principled constitutional conservatism, Jersey City Mayor
Bret Schundler won Tuesday's Republican gubernatorial primary there,
besting the GOP establishment's handpicked and heavily protected
candidate, former U.S. congressman Bob Franks. Schundler, an outspoken
social and fiscal conservative, collected 57% of the vote -- AKA
landslide.

In 1996, Mr. Schundler became Jersey City's first GOP mayor in 75
years and has been re-elected twice, even though only 6% of Jersey
City voters are registered Republicans and 68% of registered voters
are racial minorities. In the 2000 election, Mr. Schundler won 64% in
the city's most Hispanic voting district and 45% in the district with
most black voters.

He won those elections on conservative themes, the same ideas he
expressed in his victory speech Tuesday night: We have a moral
responsibility to get taxes down ... to give you the tax relief you
deserve. We need to do better for our children across the state. Every
human life has dignity. Every human life has valueWe will fight
the special interests. And we will win!

Schundler will next face Democratic nominee Jim McGreevey for the
November election. Of that challenge the Wall Street Journal notes:
In 1966, Democrats in California desperately wanted a 55-year-old
actor named Ronald Reagan to win the GOP primary for governor. They
got their wish, but Mr. Reagan connected with voters and the rest is
history. Mr. Schundler has already won over Jersey City voters three
times. He is running as a reform conservative, and his big victory
shows the voters are interested. Don't be surprised if he confounds
the experts yet again.

McGreevey wasted no time launching his campaign: Carrying a concealed
weapon is not a new idea, it's a bad idea. Taking money from public
schools is not a new idea, it's a bad idea. Preventing abortions...is
not a new idea, it's a bad idea.

Quote of the week...

President Bush, the Congress and state legislators handing over more
money to the education establishment will do nothing to end America's
education rot. More money will simply spread it. As to teacher
training, what's needed is for teachers to have degrees in the subject
they teach and maybe a class or two in pedagogy. For this, schools of
education are surely not needed. --Walter Williams

On cross-examination...

Let us, for a moment, take the sex-education pushers at their word:
If you teach a child how to use a condom, you're promoting safety --
not usage. ...Why, then, doesn't the same logic apply to guns?
--Michelle Malkin

Open query...

Do the Communist Chinese have to murder American personnel or attack
the United States or our allies with their missiles before those who
blithesomely pontificate about the civilizing benefits of building the
Chinese economy will admit that China for a decade has been going in
the opposite direction than predicted by the so-called 'free
traders'. --Rep. Dana Rohrabacher

News from the swamp...

In the Executive Branch, world-renowned climatologist Dr. Fred Singer
praised President George Bush's decision to reject the Kyoto Protocol
on global warming, despite protests from some Europeans and
environmental groups. It is a victory for the American people arrived
at after a considerable amount of debate within the Bush cabinet,
said Singer.

In the House of Lords, as predicted, the Senate Judiciary Committee,
now in the hands of Sociocrats Charles Schumer and Leahy, Kennedy,
Feinstein, and Durbin, convened a hearing to discuss the question,
Does Ideology Matter? Schumer says that the Senate is justified in
opposing Bush nominees whose views fall outside the mainstream. In
other words, Schumer wants his Senate committee to have the authority
to exclude any nominee who does not share his worldview from a vote in
the full Senate.

As legal scholar Thomas Jipping says, Demanding to know how a judge
will rule on issues is

Culture comment...

At the National Education Association's annual convention next week, a
resolution promoting homosexuality in government schools is in the
works, which states: The National Education Association recognizes
that the complex and diverse needs of gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender, and questioning students; and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender families and their children require the development of
programs that promote a safe and inclusive environment.

Thus, the NEA proposes to develop a curriculum and instructional
materials and programs designed to meet the needs of gay, lesbian,
bisexual, and transgender students; programs that support gay,
lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students and to
recognize the importance of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
education employees as role models; and programs and information that
include the contributions, heritage, culture, and history of gay,
lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.

What has your kids done learnt themselves today?

Faith Matters...

In news from the Village Church bulletin, noting that the American
church is in a crisis of faith, two Third World Anglican archbishops
have consecrated four conservative American priests as bishops, a move
which the worldwide Anglican Communion has been anticipating for some
time. The Archbishop of Canterbury decried the move as a trespass on
the territory of the 2.3 million member Episcopal Church of the USA.

I believe this is the opening round in what will become a realignment
in the Anglican Communion along the fault line of biblical truth,
commented Bishop Charles Murphy, ordained early last year by Rwandan
Archbishop Emmanuel Kolini in Singapore. More and more people are
going to decide whether they are going to go the way of truth or
unity. One of the four new Bishops, T.J. Johnston, of Little Rock,
Arkansas, added, A church divided over the essentials of a faith
cannot stand. What the Anglican Mission has done is given us covering
to step out from under a faith that was deeply divided on the
essentials of faith.

Syndicated columnist, and lifelong Episcopalian Bill Murchison says
It's mission time in America, noting that the Episcopal Church is so
full of heretical teachings that the world Anglican Communion now sees
the U.S. as a mission field. The Episcopal Church is dominated by a
cadre of Leftelitists posing as clergy.

On the frontiers of junk science...

From the Keen Sense of the Obvious Department, Michael Joyner, the
homosexual spokesman for GlaxoSmithKline (world's largest supplier of
drugs used to combat AIDS), declared, I make no connection between
gay pride and HIV. I don't think the lifestyle has anything to do
with AIDS.

That should keep business booming!

Around the world, but getting closer every day...

The UN's International Court of Justice in The Hague charged that the
U.S. ignored the legal rights, under international law, of two
German-born brothers executed in 1999 for the murder of a bank manager
during a 1982 robbery. Germany claimed the U.S. violated the Vienna
Convention by not informing consular officials of the arrest and
murder convictions of Walter and Karl LaGrand. Did someone mention
U.S. sovereignty?

You gotta love the tenacity of these boobs!

And last, Ms. Barbara Graham (whose arrest was reported in The
Federalist last year) was sentenced to 10 years to life for shooting
Mr. Kikko Smith, whom, she believed, was responsible for the death of
her 19-year-old son, Le'Pierre Clemons. Missing from the media's
reports on her conviction was the part about Ms. Graham being a high
profile activist with the anti-gun group, Million Mom March, prior to
her arrest.

Eugene Attorney Tries to Impeach High Court
 June 26, 2001, 08:30 AM

 By AP Staff

A former member of Congress launched a campaign to impeach the five
conservative Supreme Court justices who voted to stop the presidential ballot

recount in Florida last year -- but admits it's a long shot.

Charles Porter, an 82-year-old attorney in Eugene, said the Supreme Court
ruling was so clearly influenced by politics that under the Constitution
there may be grounds to impeach the justices for bias.

What an idiot.

Democrats are so narcissistic and blinded by their own partisanship, that
that cannot admit the possibility that anyone might have a legitimate
alternative
view.

Get over it.

Bush won. And he's spending the money that the Democrats WOULD have
gotten to spend if Democrat election officials had succeeded in excluding
military ballots and counting dimpled chads.

THE FOUNDERS

No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand
which conducts the invisible affairs of men more than the people of
the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the
character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by
some token of providential agency We ought to be no less persuaded
that the propitious smiles of heaven cannot be expected on a nation
that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which heaven
itself has ordained. --George Washington

INSIGHT

History is to the nation ... as memory is to the individual. An

America turned to God when we went to war in the Middle East. The
God of the Bible gave the United States and its Coalition allies a
stunning victory in the Gulf War of 1991. He answered our prayers. But
the spiritual uptick did not last; we turned away from Him when the
war was over. America's moral decline, well underway before the onset
of that war, has accelerated since then. We are in jeopardy of
suffering God's judgment, falling in the way that nations have fallen
in the past -- moral decay from within, making them vulnerable to
attack from without. The Gulf War and its aftermath bring a message of
warning and hope which ... is crucial to America's future. --Colonel

Rights and privileges that were only available to traditional married
couples are now available [under 'domestic partnerships'] to any

that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, why balk at
polygamy? If you believe that the family can take on any form that
meets the participants' needs, why exclude a family arrangement form
that is as old as recorded history? And if the courts say marriage is
any combination of people, say a man and a man, by what logic can they
say it can't be a man and two women? They can't! Objections are
foreclosed when we abandon traditional understandings of marriage.
While Utah has many reasons to crack down on polygamy, it has little
reason to feel embarrassed. Given their current attitudes towards

Bush Springs Faith Based Booby Trap
By Chuck Baldwin
June 29, 2001

President George W. Bush's faith based funding plan is inching ever closer
to reality. According to recent reports, final details are currently being
hammered out and soon the bill will come to the House floor for a vote.
Passage is all but certain. Many religious leaders are eagerly anticipating
a potential windfall from the federal government that could quickly find its
way into their coffers. They shouldn't be.

In the first place, the redistribution of wealth is not the job of the
federal government. For conservative Christians to oppose Lyndon Johnson's
Great Society, only to now embrace Bush's faith based initiative, is
nothing short of hypocritical. Both plans play Robin Hood with the American
taxpayers.

Second, if anything violates the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,
Bush's faith based funding plan does! The First Amendment reads, Congress
shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting
the free exercise thereof.. The Bush plan violates both clauses.

The Founding Fathers had already experienced state supported religion. It
didn't work in the old country; it won't work here. They knew that
government handouts meant government control. That's why they were careful
to include the words, free exercise thereof.

In order for religious institutions to be able to do the Lord's work, they
must be free. That means free from both governmental support and
governmental restrictions. Any faith based institution that accepts Caesar's
money also accepts Caesar's shackles.

The Democrat chosen by Bush to head this new federal monstrosity is John J.
DiIulio, Jr., a University of Pennsylvania political science professor. He
recently laid down the law for any prospective church or ministry interested
in receiving these new federal funds. He said that religious organizations
could participate as long as they met all federal anti-discrimination
policies. Of course, that means they must be willing to hire homosexuals and
lesbians.

DiIulio also stated that these religious groups must create separate
organizations that do not promote religion, or discriminate in hiring. That
means the religious institutions are prohibited from evangelizing, or
preaching the gospel (plus, a second warning to hire homosexuals). It also
means that those church ministries that decide to accept these federal funds
must only operate as a secular organization. In that case, the very reason
for their existence becomes unnecessary.

The reason that faith based institutions are more successful than government
supported institutions is not because they have better people working in
them; it is because they have a better message. Take away the message and
one is left with just another secular institution with no message of hope or
redemption. In one quick stroke, the Bush plan destroys both the church's
independence and its integrity.

Rep. Robert Scott (D-Virginia) said, If you're not proselytizing
(evangelizing) in the program . you don't need charitable choice. Fund the
[government] program. I'm not sure that I trust Scott's motives, but what
he said is true. If the religious program is turned into a secular program,
it ceases to be a religious program. And we already have plenty of
government funded secular programs - we don't need any more!

Those individuals and groups that want to secularize the country should
enthusiastically endorse Bush's faith based funding plan, because that is
exactly what will happen. The plan is a giant booby trap that, once sprung,
has the potential to destroy religious freedom and independence in America.

[CTRL] Breast Cancer

Subject: FWD:Fw: Fw: FW: FW: Fw: Information -- Breast Cancer
Date: Mon, 28 May 2001 19:16:40 -0500

Some information for us womensomething to think about!!!

A friend of mine who has rec'd chemotherapy and is now receiving Radiation at
Princess Margaret hospital for breast cancer phoned me today to tell me what
they have now found about causes of breast cancer. And then tonight, got the
same information from another friend in Montreal. The person with the cancer
has been told by the hospital to only use deodorant rather than an
anti-perspirant.
The reasons are outlined in the letter below.

Anyway, I thought it was worth sharing:

Elizabeth Morin
Dept. of Medicinal Chemistry
Merck Frosst Canada Co.

Tel. (514) 428-3222

I'm forwarding this to everyone I know because it makes so much sense. Please
forward it to everyone you care about and even those you don't.

Ladies - some awareness!
Gentleman - pass on to the ladies in your life!

Please read this... very important... Some time ago, I attended a Breast
Cancer Awareness seminar put on by Terry Birk with support from Dan Sullivan.
During the Q A period I asked why the most common area for Breast Cancer
was near the armpit.
My question could not be answered at that time.
This email was just sent to me, and I find it interesting that my question
has now been answered. I challenge you all to re-think your every day use of
a product that could ultimately lead to a terminal illness.
As of today, I will change my use.
A friend forwarded this to me.
I showed it to a friend going through chemotherapy and she said she learned
this fact in a support group recently.
I wish I had known it 14 years ago. I just got information from a health
seminar that I would like to share.
The leading cause of breast cancer is the use of anti-perspirant.
What?
A concentration of toxins leads to cell mutations: a.k.a. CANCER.

Yes, ANTI-PERSPIRANT.

Most of the products out there are an antiperspirant/deodorant combination,
so go home and check. Deodorant is fine but antiperspirant is not.

Here's why:

The human body has a few areas that it uses to purge toxins behind the knees,
behind the ears, groin area, and armpits. The toxins are purged in the form
of perspiration. Anti-perspirant, as the name clearly indicates, prevents
you from perspiring, thereby inhibiting the body from purging toxins from
below the armpits.
These toxins do not just magically disappear. Instead, the body deposits
them in the lymph nodes below the arms since it cannot sweat them out.
Nearly all breast cancer tumors occur in the upper outside quadrant of the
breast area.
This is precisely where the lymph nodes are located.
Additionally, Men are less likely (but not completely exempt) to develop
breast cancer prompted by anti-perspirant usage because most of the
anti-perspirant product is caught in their hair and is not directly applied
to the skin. Women who apply anti-perspirant right after shaving increase
the risk further because shaving causes almost imperceptible nicks in the
skin, which give the chemicals entrance into the body from the armpit area.

PLEASE pass this along to anyone you care about.

Breast cancer is becoming frighteningly common.

This awareness may save lives. If you are skeptical about these findings, I
urge you to do some research for yourself. You will arrive at the same
conclusions, I assure you.

 Pesticide Fishing Spreading in Mexico

 June 29, 2001

A report released in May by the Mexican Environmental Enforcement
 Agency
(PROFEPA) documents illegal use of pesticides for fishing in the
 pacific
coast state of Michoacan. The report, the result of a four-month
investigation, reveals that at least two insecticides are being used
 in
fishing for langostino, a lobster-like crustacean. Langostinos are
considered a delicacy and are served primarily in expensive
 restaurants.

The chemicals being used for fishing in the region are the veterinary
insecticides Batestan plus (deltamethrin) and Asuntol
 (coumaphos), both
 widely available in the region.

Deltamethrin, a pyrethroid, bioaccumulates and is considered
 moderately
toxic to humans and a suspected endocrine disruptor. It is known to
 be
highly toxic to aquatic species, including fish, amphibeans, aquatic
 insects
and zooplankton. Coumaphos is an organophosphate rated highly toxic
 to
humans by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and classified as
 an
extremely hazardous substance by the World Health Organization. It
 is also
 a cholinesterase inhibitor.

PROFEPA condemned the practice of pesticide fishing but did not
 address the
question of whether fish caught through this method posed a health
 risk to
consumers. The agency did not investigate whether langostinos
 collected by
pesticide fishing have been served at restaurants in tourist areas
 such as
 nearby Puerto Vallarta.

Additional evidence suggests that the practice of pesticide fishing
 may be
widespread in Mexico. In late March of this year, two men were
 arrested in
separate incidents in Michoacan for use of Batestan plus in fishing,
 and
more than 340 langostinos were confiscated. Anecdotal reports
 indicate use
of unidentified pesticides in at least two communities near the El
 Triunfo
Biosphere Reserve in the state of Chiapas. According to a government
biologist working on the Pacific side of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas,
 people
are fishing with pesticides to catch a shrimp-like crustacean locally
 known
 as piguas.

In addition, in mid-2000, a Mexican environmental law nongovernmental
organization, the Centro de Derecho Ambiental e Integración Económica
 del
Sur (DASSUR), documented pesticide fishing in the Uxpanapa River, at
 the
heart of biodiversity-rich Uxpanapa Valley in southern Veracruz near
 the
 Gulf of Mexico.

In this case, health effects from consumption of contaminated fish
 were
documented. Fishers were using Butox which, like Batestan plus, has
deltamethrin as an active ingredient. Acute illnesses of both adults
 and
children linked to consumption of contaminated fish and shrimp were
documented in various townships near Ejido Palancares, where the
 pesticide
fishing takes place. Researchers frequently heard unconfirmed rumors
 of
frequent abortions and developmental effects in children in the
 region.
Additional research is needed to document these impacts.

DASSUR's investigation, a joint effort with PAN North America,
 resulted in a
report and video documenting pesticide fishing in the Uxpanapa river
 and its
effects. The project's next stage will involve further documentation
 of
health effects, as well as education about the risks of pesticide
 fishing in
other affected communities in Michoacan, Oaxaca and Chiapas. The
 project
will also work to enhance the capacity of affected communities to
 recognize
and report pesticide fishing to the proper authorities and to use
 local
press to raise awareness about the issue.

screeds are unwelcomed. Substance—not soap-boxing—please! These are
sordid matters and 'conspiracy theory'—with its many half-truths, mis-
directions and outright frauds—is used politically by different groups with
major and minor effects spread throughout the spectrum of time and thought.
That being said, CTRLgives no endorsement to the validity of posts, and
always suggests to readers; be wary of what you read. CTRL gives no
credence to Holocaust denial and nazi's need not apply.

Let us please be civil and as always, Caveat Lector.
