With john working at Mozilla on the next firefox release, and now this
announcment I can see some very exciting things happening in the next
18-24 months in the world of jQuery/web development. All we need to
do is quash those bugs and get everyone away from IE.

JQuery for world domination!

Re: [jQuery] Google's Summer of Code

2007-02-16 Thread digital spaghetti
I know Drupal is in the SoC, I'd love to see some "dual" enhancments.
For example, check out a plugin for Wordpress called "Canvas" (nothing
to do with the tag!). It's functionality in Drupal could easily be
replaces with interface sortables, and provide a more visual layout
system - each block becomes a dragable item, and each menu area a
dropable.

I'd also love to see on-the-fly microformat generation using jq.

I think you should definitly show jQuery against another popular JS
library. Find something in say Prototype that maybe takes a few lines
to do, and show it being done in jQuery using 1 or 2 lines :)

[jQuery] [Fwd: Intel Web 2.0 Technology Development Kit (TDK)]

2007-02-14 Thread Digital Spaghetti

Noticed this story on Ajaxian today!
http://ajaxian.com/archives/intel-web-20-technology-development-kit-tdk

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet myself, but looks like it might
be interesting for developing apps, especially with the offline
capabilities coming up in Firefox 3, I could see some nice thin-client apps.

From Ajaxian:

Have you ever wished that you could |getPercentRemaining()| to find out
the battery charge left in a users device, or |getProtocolRateTx()| to
find out about the connectivity of a device?

These are some of the methods available in the Intel Web 2.0 Technology
Development Kit (TDK)
.

   Imagine if your Web 2.0 application could be aware of the platform
   it is running on and its environment. It could, for example,
   leverage multi-core power to provide more immersive user interfaces,
   postpone certain tasks during low power situations, avoid network
   traffic over low bandwidth/high latency connections, etc.

   The Intel® Web 2.0 Technology Development Kit (TDK) allows
   developers to learn about the platform’s configuration, e.g.
   display, storage, processor, and the platform’s context, e.g.
   bandwidth, connectivity, power and location, etc. within a browser
   using JavaScript.

   The Intel® Web 2.0 TDK contains documentation and full source code
   (C++ and JavaScript) for IE 6/7 and Firefox. The code can be
   incorporated directly in your extensions or JavaScript libraries,
   and be redistributed royalty free.

I have to admit… I wouldn’t have guessed that this would be the next API
out of Intel!

[jQuery] Cool tool

2007-02-09 Thread Digital Spaghetti
Hey peeps,

This isn't shameless self promotion, this is just a very handy tool I
found recently that has really saved some time with development. I
thought I'd share with you:

http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/_splitbrowser.html.en

It's the split browser plugin for Firefox. Rather than using tabs,you
can use it to split the screen, having more than one page open. I find
it really handy to open the jQuery API in one frame, and do my
development in the other. The great thing is Firebug only loads in the
active tab, so it doesn't interfere with your development. I sometimes
even find it handy to have other API doc's, or tutorials open in a third
frame. I've posted a quick picture of that here:
http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/node/35 of this in action!

[jQuery] Finding child element with no class

2006-12-19 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi folks,

I am trying to use the InnerFade plugin on a site I am developing
using Drupal. In it, I have a block that lists up to the last 5
stories posted. Due to the way Views work in Drupal, I am not able to
add a class to the UL element directly, the code looks like below:

  Last 5 Stories

   Story 1

   Story 2

Now, the output is rather messy, but it's what I have to deal with :(

What I am trying to do is find the UL as the child of div.item-list
using the below code:

$(document).ready(function(){
 $("div.itemlist>ul").innerfade({
speed: "slow",
 timeout: 4000,
 type: "sequence",
 containerheight: "220px"
  });
});

However, it does not seem to be finding the child UL element. Can
anyone tell me where I am going wrong on this?

Thanks,
Tane

Re: [jQuery] JQuery and CakePHP (slightly OT)

2006-12-14 Thread digital spaghetti
Personally, I didn't like its structure set up and YML language.
CakePHP is very much like PHP and is really just a set of classes that
provide functionality, and the structure is true MVC to me.

But certainly I think it's important that with whatever framework you
use, that jQuery is the JS library of choice for simplicity and
lightweight functionality.

Be wary of that page, it's actually out of date!

Rather than:
$head->register_js("jquery.js");

You now just use
$head->js("jquery.js");

Basicly, knock register_ off any calls and your fine. However after
all your calls, you need to do:

$head->registered();

This will "render" all the scripts and css files you add.

[jQuery] JQuery and CakePHP (slightly OT)

2006-12-14 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey,

I've noticed a few people on here talk about CakePHP and I've decided
to investigate it as a possible way of developing a CMS for my work.
As much as I love drupal, it has it's drawbacks for what I am doing
and I'm investigating using a framwork as a way to develop a CMS from
scratch that is customised for my line of work in the music industry.

It's community seems friendly, but at the moment the documentation
seems to be a little bit of a muddle and I can only find faint
whispers of CakePHP supporting jQuery easily. To be honest I've
discovered the forms helper which isn't well documented at the moment,
and tried to use the jQuery forms plugin to do AJAX request but with
no luck. Also, so far I have only really used jQuery for Dom/CSS and
not really done much with AJAX yet.

I'm wondering if anyone on here with CakePHP knowledge could either
point me to some reasonbly clear documentation on using jQuery with
CakePHP to do AJAX, or if they might be willing to provide a little
assistance or code samples or helpers/componants that they have used.
One I get it the first time, I should be ok after that. I want to try
get a basic system up-and-running by mid january so I'm really looking
to get moving on this.

Any help would be appreciated and feel free to contact me off-list.

Thanks,

[jQuery] Jobs and tasks at getJquery.org

2006-12-11 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey folks,

I'm pretty happy with the setup over at http://getjquery.org now - I
have groups up and running (so working groups can be created), buddy
lists for the social element and a few other cool things so go check
it out. Apologies for the length of this email also, but I'm typing
this as I travel and just commiting my thoughts to email.

Below are some on my thoughts on what to do next, you can contribute
on-list, or feel free to start editing the wiki
(http://getjquery.org/wiki)

Now that this initial stage is running, I want to begin work on other
parts. The first thing is the design. I'm torn between blog & news
style on the front page so it's more dynamic, or go with a "static"
front page more like http://getfirebug.org that leads off in to other
areas.

The site will (hopefully) eventually be rather large with lots of user
generated content, so I'm wondering if a "best of both worlds" could
be done with this - say top half of the page "static" to content, and
the bottom half dynamic content like latest news, latest blogs, latest
tutorials, etc. The beauty of drupal is that each part of the site
can easily have different layouts and styles that correspond to the
data being presented.

The next part is moderation and localisation. The primary language of
the site will be english, but certainly I'd like to present it in
other languages. Already the first french blog post has been made and
the author is on board for helping make some translations. What are
the other main languages that should be focused on (german, chinese,
japanese, scandanavian and eastern european langauges)?

Regarding moderation, I would be looking for people to help moderate
incoming content. Most content types are available to registered
users, such as stories, blogs, Book pages, groups, podcasts, etc.
Blogs are the only content type that do not go in to a moderation
queue (possibly book pages too, I'll have to double check). For all
other types, I'd like to have some respected people on board who can
moderate the content, and decide if something needs to be rejected
(spam, buggy code, self-gratifying posts), accepted (most posts) or
promoted (something so good, everyone and their dog needs to know
about this via the front page).

Finally for roles, there are developers - these are the people who
will actually help build the site - they will be able to access the
server to install and modify things, it's a bit too much for little
ol' me to do all of it.

If you want to help, then contact me and let me know. Make sure you
sign up to the site and wiki. I'll soon be setting up a closed
mailing list for core people who want to help so there is less clutter
in this one.

Regards,
Tane

Hi Clodelio,

Check out http://getjquery.org/wiki/index.php?title=Promoting_Jquery
That has some of the emails from this list, including a couple of mine.

Although I have no say over what happens at jQuery.com what I
personally think is that jQuery.com should stay the "hardcode" site,
where developers can go to get things like the source, API's, etc.

getJquery.org would be the softer site, introducing you to jQuery, be
more community orientated and be the place to get all the
tutorials/podcasts/videocasts, etc.

Feel free to chime in on the Wiki any ideas that you have so we can
start formal discussions and proposals and get things moving.

[jQuery] getJquery.org now up

2006-12-08 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey folks,

Further to the discussions on this mailing list about getting the word
about jQuery out to the world, I've created http://getjquery.org

The idea behind it is to come up with a similar site to
getfirefox.org, to advocate the use of jQuery alongside, and over
other JS libraries.

There isn't much there at the moment, just a Drupal site and a Wiki
(http://getjquery.org/wiki) to get the ball rolling.

I'll also be offering hosting to jQuery projects with a basic package
for free (basic as in everything is unlimited, but you have to take a
getjquery.org sub-domain (i.e. http://myplugin.getjquery.org), and any
higher requirements can be discussed such as hosting your own URL.
Email me off-list if you are interested.

Please feel free to register and dive into the Wiki, I'll not be
online this weekend, but when I come back I'd like to see lots of
discussion going on about what to do with the site.

need to start looking at raising part of the money towards running
costs but that's far enough off.

At the moment, it's just a standard Drupal Beta 2 install with no
content, but everyone can sign up their accounts. I'm setting up a
wiki (which will be up later today on http://getjquery.org/wiki/) so
everyone can contribute to the discussion of what we do with it.

Re: [jQuery] Two new jQuery plugins: jquery.xslTransform and jquery.debug

2006-12-07 Thread digital spaghetti
The only issue I have with below is that I need to be able to pass in
HTML. My page has been marked up semantically using
hAtom(http://microformats.org/wiki/hatom).

I want to be able to run the page through XSLT using this XSL file
(http://rbach.priv.at/hAtom2Atom/) and I want it to be able to have
the functionality of this convertor
(http://lukearno.com/projects/hatom2atom/)

I notice that the content types are :

application/xml
text/xml
application/atom+xml

Does your plugin support changing headers, looks like either text/xml
or application/atom+xml might be my best chance.

Re: [jQuery] Efforts to Convert Folks to jQuery

2006-12-07 Thread digital spaghetti
I agree with a lot of what you are saying. The jQuery site, though a
useful tool is a little dull and as you say doesn't tell you how
"fresh" things are.

I think a leaf could be taken out of what some other communities on
the web do and look at making the jQuery homepage more like a
community hub, and less like a "this is jQuery" page.

A few additional ideas to what I had before:

Have a "today" box telling you all the freshest information such as
current build of jQuery, latest/updated plugins, links to tutorials
for beginners on the front page, clearer nacvigation.

Re: [jQuery] Efforts to Convert Folks to jQuery

2006-12-07 Thread digital spaghetti
Here is some notes I took on my blackberry. Sometimes I just get
ideas like this and like to take them down. It's for getjquery.com
which could be a great way to promote the library.

Getjquery.org site ideas:

Create a site in a similar vein to getfirefox.org, promoting the
features and values of the Jquery library.

The site is build aroud x ideas:
- what is jQuery? (Introduction and Faq)
- jQuery in action (both onsite and offsite), jQuery in the press.
- get jQuery (offer several downloads I.e. Lite, developer and roll-your-own)
- jQuery tutorials (onsite, offsite, video and podcasts)
- your jQuery - user submission such as sites running jQuery, code
snipits, photos (conferences, sillyness, etc).
- jQuery swag - t-shirts, mugs, mouse mats, etc.
- support us - donations

Site runs on Drupal, with modulles to build a community site, get
advocates od jQuery from the mailing list to contribute to design and
function, come up with unique content for site. Look at either
creating a tour in flash, or someone write it in jQuery (to show the
power!!)

Aim of the site is to raise awareness and take up of the jQuery
library. Show that some big sites (technorati, drupal) are using
jQuery, get quotes and soundbites and plaster them on the site.

Create a central pot of funds for running hosting, getting advertising
and donating to jQuery related projects. Possibly offer awards for
excellent projects decided by a panel. Could also go towards funding
speakers at events to promote jQuery.

Feel free to expand on this, or just ignore it but I thought I'd throw
it into the pot.

Hey,

Tried this, not working:

$this is not defined.

I don't think that really matters anyway? All my code should be doing
is on clicking the URL, I want to fire off a transform which is
defined in the function code?

At the moment, I know that I am sending text/html as the header as I
just want to run the XSLT over my webpage to pick up the microformats
embedded in the HTML. Do I maybe need to ammend the header?

Hi briz,

Ok I'll give that a try tommorow when I am in work and see what
happens. Unfortunatly the list seemed rather quiet today so I didn't
get an earlier reponse :( and my laptops still not back from the
repair shop to try it out tonight.

One I get it working, do you mind me cross posting your email onto the
microformats mailing list? By the sounds of things this script will
be perfect for converting microformats like hAtom and hCard in the
browser with the right XSL file :)

Re: [jQuery] Two new jQuery plugins: jquery.xslTransform and jquery.debug

2006-12-06 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi Gavin,

I've just added jQuery.xslTransform to my website
(http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk) and I have a link on the site that I
want to click to transform the page I am looking at, but it doesn't
seem to work.

Just a quick background: I am using the hAtom microformat on my site,
it means in the HTML document on my site, these are classes such as
hEntry, title, etc that wrap my content.

I have uploaded hAtom2Atom.xsl to my site, which is for transforming
the hAtom tags to a Atom feed (http://rbach.priv.at/hAtom2Atom/). I'm
trying to replicate the function of this:
http://lukearno.com/projects/hatom2atom (which is a convertor) but on
my own site.

Now on my site, I have a link link this:

Subscribe to hAtom Feed

And my jQuery code looks like this:

$(document).ready(function(){
  $("a.atom").click(function() {
$("$this").getTransform("http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/misc/hAtom2Atom.xsl","http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/index.php";);
});
});

Now, the script gets triggered, but I get these errors in Firebug:

getTransform:
http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/misc/hAtom2Atom.xsl::http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/index.php::[object
Object]

transform():
http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/misc/hAtom2Atom.xsl::http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/index.php::[object
Object]

load(): received string

loadFile(): http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/index.php::string

GET http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/index.php (1063ms)

ERROR: document http://digitalspaghetti.me.uk/index.php not found
(404), or unable to load

r.setProperty is not a function

Any ideas how I may get around this?

Re: [jQuery] Two new jQuery plugins: jquery.xslTransform and jquery.debug

2006-12-06 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi there,

Currently mobile at the moment, so a quick question. Does the jQuery
XSL plugin require an XSLT engine on the server, or is it doing the
browser?

I'm looking at XSLT for use with microformats so I can do conversions
on formats like hcard to vcard or hatom to atom feed, and at the
moment I am using rather slow and patchy 3rd party services for this,
and I can't install any XSLT engines on my server.

Also love the sound of the debug script. Firebug is an excellnt
application and this plugin looks like it may be the perfect
complement to it. I'll give it a try at work today :)

I have't tried it yet myself, but on firebug's homepage there is a
firebug lite that is a javascript you can embed into a page, to give
you cross browser debugging.

I'd have a look at that, see if it suits your needs?

Re: [jQuery] php frameworks

2006-12-05 Thread digital spaghetti
f you don't want to start from scratch but have the flexability to add
your own functioanlity and have jQuery at the core, then Drupal is
excellent

It has really good open standards. There are lots of great core and
3rd party modules available for example in Core you have database
functions, a user system (that can easily extended), blogging and
story creatiin, feed aggrigators and more. For 3rd party you have CCK
for creating content types and Views for displaying content, and
hundreds more.

The only current issue is that the current version is beta and not all
modules have been converted to work, but if you really require thr
functionality you can delve into the code and provide patches to fix
it. The community is great for support.

Re: [jQuery] Ignoring tags already affected by .addClass()

2006-12-04 Thread digital spaghetti
Easy enough. My module uses a hook into drupals views, when a node is
about to be rendered to the screen, I have a function that generates a
hash based on the url of the node id.

Then using drupal_add_js, I write out the jQuery function and drop in
the vars from the module's php code (naybe not standard but very easy
to do using this function).

Since the hash code is generated from the node's url' I know the id of
the node and where I now want to put it.

Really I should have thought of it before, but today was a rather
testing day for other reasons, with far too many coffee and cigs and
not enough work.

2006-12-04 Thread digital spaghetti
To be honest, I don't know how to currently with drupal, I've looked
through the docs but currently haven't found anything to allow me to
affect the node's class tag.

This way seemed like a quick workaround way to do it, and as far as I
could see drupal_add_js was designed to be able to do stuff like this
(mix JS and PHP, maybe I'm wrong).

I do want to look for a more perminant way of doing this, as I have
thought that a microid spider might ignore JS which would render this
module's current implementation useless.
But at the moment this is more of a proof-of-concept rather than
something fully useable (there are not many services that support
microid).

Re: [jQuery] Ignoring tags already affected by .addClass()

2006-12-04 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi alex and eric,

Sorry, my email was written during a fit of frustration.

Basicly what I mean is as each node is generated on the page there is
some PHP that generates the hash Id, then using the drupal_add_js I
add the .addClass() function to the head with the class name I want to
add, but it seems that jQuery is adding sll the .addClass() to each
node. This actually makes sense to me with how jQuery works.

So what I need to happen is for each jQuery function that is generated
for each .addClass to have a condition that excludes previous nodes
that have already been affected. I'm hoping that it runs in order too
(I.e. The correct .addClass() affects the correct node). As I typed
out this email I had the same idea as Alex (but my blackberry kicked
me out of gmail before I could send it) I will try tommorow.

Since drupal_add_js allows me to mix PHP variables with jQuery code I
could change the I'd selector to be specific to the node I'd (I.e
id="node-14", id="node-15", etc) as drupal always automatically
generates this. If anyone can think of anything else, it will be
appreciated.

[jQuery] Ignoring tags already affected by .addClass()

2006-12-04 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey folks,

I'm making headway with my Drupal module I am working on, but have hit
a problem.

On the front page of Drupal, I generate a jQuery .addClass() function
for each node that is displayed on the page, and this is fine. For
example, for the first node I get this in my header:

$(function(){$("[EMAIL
PROTECTED]").addClass("microid-d09348e51fc82f053dfd6c9c1319ceace8ab83bb")});

$(function(){$("[EMAIL
PROTECTED]").addClass("microid-13937db84359a8a64a1ed0fd15e671595a9c1207")});

And so on

But now the problem is that rather than just adding one .addClass() to
the node than generates it, it add's ALL the .addClass()'s to every
node.  i.e.

is there a way in jQuery to check if a tag has already been touched by
jQuery so it's ignored? I am assuming that as the loop happens on the
front page, jQuery should then assign the correct .addClass() to the
correct node in order?

Hi Rod,

Great to see jQuery being used in an inventive way. Have you any
plans to makw this a web widget, as I'd love to use something like
this on my site.

As to the http Auth issue, would it be possible to make this into a
plugin, so it would make the code cleaner, and it would be a great
plugin to see to use some other services.

Hi there,

As soon as I started reading this thread I thought the exact same
thing about a drupal module, but it looks like you already have a
module in development.

Is there anything in the CVS to look at? I'm working on a
microformats module and I'd like to look opening an API for other
modules such as yours to use the formats like hCalendar and hCard.

I may be a little OT here but I'm am certainlt planning to use a lot
of jQuery for the client side such as adding semantic classes to tags.

You can check out my module, its called microformats.

Yea, I figured it out in the end, but now I'm really happy with the results.

One question I do have. Since the class that I add is supposed to be
indexed by a microid spider, do you think these on-the-fly changes
will be picked up as the content is not really embedded but added on a
page view? That's the only issue I'm worried about.

Hi Marc,

Ignore this - it's a PHP variable. You are seeing this code out of
context as to add jQuery to a drupal page you use a function called
drupal_add_js:

drupal_add_js('$(function(){$("[EMAIL PROTECTED]").addClass("microid-' .
$hash . '")});', 'inline');

It's very handy, as it allows you to mix JS and PHP. The 'inline' as
the end add's it to the header, without 'inline' you can add JS files
to your header.

[jQuery] Using .addClass() to add dynamic class not for CSS

2006-12-01 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey folks,

I am working on a Microcontent module for Drupal that uses jQuery, but
I cannot seem to get that functionality to work. I need to ask, does
.addClass actually add class text to a tag, or is it just applying it
in the background. To explain, my code looks like this:

$(function(){
 $("[EMAIL PROTECTED]").addClass("microid-' . $hash . '")
});

Now, $hash is generated from hashing the users email and homepage url.
 When I add the JS to drupal_add_js, this is how it outputs, so I know
this bit is working:

$(function(){
 $("[EMAIL
PROTECTED]").addClass("microid-48d0e28087a9cb825fbc7e6257fdb00137bf8aa3")
});

But when I check any div tags that have (n being the
node number) the class list still looks the same. If .addClass is the
wrong thing, can anyone suggest another way I go about this?

Regards,
Tane

Re: [jQuery] OT: fQuery

2006-11-23 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi Steven,

Is there any link to this? I'm currently looking at building a hCard
builder for Drupal that reads the fields from the Profile module, and
generates a select list of these fields that can be mapped to XHTML
types for a hCard.

This plugin sounds perfect, because for the admin interface I want to
use jQuery for the interface so you can build up lots of mapped
profile fields dynamicly. You can read about my idea here:
http://groups.drupal.org/node/1898#comment

Also, is this module a replacement for fields in Drupal, or an
extention of them?

Thanks,
Tane

Hmm, I tried that and it worked with Puff, but when I tried other
effects such as .Highlight I keep getting errors with c & g not having
properties.  Weird

Ended up fixing it on my own:

$(document).ready(function()
  {$("[EMAIL PROTECTED]|=menu]").click(function(){
$("this").Puff(500)
  });
});

However, I'm not getting Puff working, but I'll fix that too.

[jQuery] Finding elements with class

2006-11-22 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey folks,

I'm using Drupal and I have a menu that I want to apply an effect to.
The menu code looks like this and I can't change it as the classes
come from the drupal menu module:

Home
About Us
Our Artists
Releases

Below is the code I am using, I want the links to puff using ifx when
a link is clicked:

$(document).ready(function(){
  $("[EMAIL PROTECTED]").click(function(){
$(this).Puff(500)
   });
});

However, I cannot get it to work. I get the error: m has no
properties jquery.js (line 2). As far as I am understanding it, I am
looking for any 'a' elements that have the word 'menu' in their
classname and when clicked they should puff. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Yep, I never noticed it the first time round - but the blue bar is
coming from the bottom of the frame off the scroll bar at the bottom.
However, it doesn't happen on the right hand frame.

I've actually raised a issue on Drupal (http://drupal.org/node/97948)
in regards to integrating this for version 6 of Drupal. That's one
thing that Drupal is lacking is a content editor, and maybe if both
projects looked at working together on integrating, or at least making
WYMeditor fully compatable with Drupal - then that might speed things
up.

Other benefits from this is making things more lightweight, since
TinyMCE and FCK need their own JS libraries loaded in and I haven't
seen any other CMS's go down this route with their content editors.

[jQuery] Opening popup window using jQuery to a.href?

2006-11-15 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi Folks,

Ok, I am being stupid and can't work this out and it's probably so
simple. What I want to do is keep my site XHTML valid, so I don't
want target= params in any of my links, I want to use jQuery to take
the href param from any clicked link with rel="nofollow" which only my
external links have, and pop it into a new window. My code so far
looks like this:

$(document).ready(
 function(){$("[EMAIL PROTECTED]").click(
  function() { window.open("a.href") }
 ); }
);

Now, from this all I am getting is a pop up to the URL a.href, and in
the window that the original link is in, that goes to the URL I want
the popup to go to. Can anyone see where I am going wrong, or it
could just be me misunderstanding jQuery. I also tried
window.open($("a").href) as well, but with no luck.

Thanks.

Re: [jQuery] Which CMS / Wiki jQuery.com is using

2006-11-15 Thread digital spaghetti
If you are looking for a CMS that is powered by jQuery, Drupal version
5 (currently in Beta) is using jQuery as it's core JS library, and is
integrating it into the main API. For example, to add a jQuery
function you use the drupal_add_js hook in Drupal:

This is an example of an effect which is built into the core jQuery
library. This text should fade in after the DOM is loaded. http://api.drupal.org/api/HEAD/function/drupal_add_js";>
drupal_add_js() was used to add the http://jquery.com/api/";> fadeIn effect to any paragraph with
the class jtest.

Definitely, I think that would be quite achievable (again, using
Drupal!) with each plugin having it's own page, support forum, bug
tracking and feature requests, plus access to an SVN where they are
stored.

And for sites running jQuery, it could be something like
cssgallery.com with a picture of the site, link, people can leave
comments and also score the site (using a jQuery-based vote plugin :)

I don't know how far along John and the other web designers are on
this, but it's definitely something to look at.

Totally, jQuery is NOT being used for the server side stuff - at the
moment it's being implemented in the theme alongside the Colour picker
plugin for jQuery to allow people to customise the colour scheme, but
thats something quite small.

jQuery could be used to "AJAX-afy" the CMS for things like AJAX
comments, livesearch, date pickers (rather than the current text or
select box methods) and for loading in content to blocks, rather than
reload the page each time, or building newstickers from RSS content.
Using interface, a drag-and-drop interface for blocks could be built
as well. These are just some ideas, but basicly it boils down to
simplifying the workflow through AJAX.

I'd suggest downloading the beta-1 of version 5 and giving it a test
drive , or try the demo here: http://www.adaccs.at/test/ and you'll
see what I mean.

Re: [jQuery] Building a Community

2006-11-08 Thread digital spaghetti
I have recently become a Drupal convert for a CMS system, and was over
the moon to see that jQuery is going to be *the* JS library that is
used in the core of the system for release 5.

I think it would be great for these two communities to look to work
together, in that the more Drupal users there are - the more jQuery
users there will also be. And to work on making some jQuery plugins
part of the core (such as date pickers, autocomplete, AJAX comments,
etc). There is also the opportunity here for more plugins to be
developed alongside functions of the CMS.

I also noticed on the blog that the site is due to be re-designed -
well I think there is an opportunity here to use Drupal as the site
CMS, and show off what jQuery can do alongside this great CMS.

Re: [jQuery] jQuery with Drupal (Was: Re: input.setAttribute is not a function)

2006-11-01 Thread digital spaghetti
I can confirm that Drupal 5.x has been released as beta, and contains
jQuery as it's main JS library:

http://drupal.org/drupal-5.0-beta1

The addition of jQuery has significantly altered drupal.js:

   1. All drupal.js functions are namespaced with Drupal. For example,
if you called absolutePosition(...) before, you should now call
Drupal.absolutePosition(...).
   2. The isJsEnabled() killswitch has been changed from a function
into a boolean. In practice, you just remove the () when doing the
check: if (Drupal.isJsEnabled)
   3. addLoadEvent() was removed in favor of jQuery's own
$(document).ready() function.

It's currently 1.0.2 that's being used, but I'm sure before the next
release they will update to 1.0.3. Drupal is a major CMS which I have
just recently converted to, and it's nice to see they have picked
jQuery over other libraries.

Re: [jQuery] .toggle crashing IE

2006-09-23 Thread digital spaghetti
Thanks very much, I just could not find it, I suppose i rely too much
on on JS console in Firefox, which has no problems :)

As for the cleartype problem, I know how to solve that - you need to
specify the background colour in the CSS file, but since my background
is always the same colour in that area, that won't be a problem (it'll
just increase the CSS size!)

To be honest, though I'd like to support as much as possible, with IE7
coming out soon, and not many of my visitors <=IE6 users it's not a
major concern for me at the moment.

[jQuery] .toggle crashing IE

2006-09-22 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey folks,

I am working on a Wordpress/Canvas theme that exclusivly uses jQuery
for it's JS functions.

I have added 2 toggle areas, one at the top that by default is hidden,
and one at the bottom that by default shows up. I also have my
comment area hidden by default but it's only shown if you view a
single post.

Now, in IE6 (at least in my copy) the bottom toggle bar works fine, so
does the comments area - but the top bar keeps crashing IE6 - however
it works fine in Firefox. At first I thought it might be because of
the hidden nature, but my comment area is hidden by default and it
works fine.

I cannot seem to find what the problem is, and I am wondering if it's
just my copy of IE. It's starting to drive me crazy.

The theme is over at http://www.digitalspaghetti.me.uk, can you guys
have a look and see if you are getting the same problem?

Please also check out the theme itself. I've included the recent Text
size/Theme switcher that appeared in the .net magazine article, plus
several colour schemes - hope you like it.

I've still to yet start work on adding in Livesearch and Ajax comments
functionality. While I am here, can anyone make any suggestions at
what they might like to see in a theme like this?

Thanks very much!

[jQuery] AJAX Comments?

2006-09-21 Thread digital spaghetti
Just a quick question, has anyone on the list done any work on a AJAX
comments plugin for jQuery?

If not, then I'm probably going to start working on one to work with
my Wordpress theme (which I have started converting all the JS from
Prototype to JQuery), but rather than go ahead and re-invent the wheel
if someone has already started, I thought I'd ask.

Thanks,

Re: [jQuery] Running jQuery when already have $() from prototype

Is there any more word on whats happening this this?

I downloaded compat.js, but it doesn't seem to do anything except
throw and exception:

Error: invalid return

Source Code:

I have it loading after prototype and jquery, is that the correct way
to load it?

Re: [jQuery] jCarousel

2006-09-04 Thread digital spaghetti
That looks pretty good, something very close to what I need. It's just
a pity at the moment I can't use jQuery, as it seems to be affecting
some prototype stuff on my site. I'm looking to port some of these
plugins over to qQuery, or find alternatives.

I'll keep a eye on development of this plugin though.

Re: [jQuery] jCarousel

2006-09-03 Thread digital spaghetti
I love this plugin. One thing I wonder if you can help with?

I would like to use this for my main navigation. What I'd like to do
is display only 1 image at a time, which is a navigation link. Each
time the prev/next are pressed and an image is displayed, I would like
to have a div next to it change content, so each item is desribed.
I'd like to do this with the id tag as the link title (i.e. Home) and
the title tag as the description.

What I want to know is how to I modify or use the event handlers from
the button press to include some code for changing the content of some
display tags?

Then using jq, I'll fade out the existing content, replace it using
DOM and then fade the div back in.

Thanks,
Tane

[jQuery] Autocomplete Plugin help

2006-08-26 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi there,

Would anyone be able to help me out? I'm trying to code a livesearch
widget for Wordpress using G. van den Hoven's Autocomplete plugin.

I've tried to look through the source to try find what I need, but can't.

I have my widget that I initialises the plugin, and an input for where
I accept the user typing in, but what I cannot work out is how to take
each keypress and pass that into a PHP file to do the search. I'd
prefer to wait until at least the first 3 characters have been put in
before firing this off, but this is not essential.

code:

//
// Page script
$(document).ready(function() {
$('input.#livesearch').autoComplete($('#center'), '/search.php');
});

Can anyone suggest what I do?

Re: [jQuery] Dynamic Forms?

2006-08-26 Thread digital spaghetti
Right, I've managed to get this half working now. I put my code into
a function, and put an onclick param on each tag, so when
it's selected it runs my code:

example:

function contactTypeVenue() {
$(document.getElementById("cf_position")).hide();
$(document.getElementById("cf_email")).hide();
}

function contactTypePerson() {

$(document.getElementById("cf_position")).show();
$(document.getElementById("cf_email")).show();
}

function contactTypeCompany() {
$(document.getElementById("cf_position")).hide();
}

Person
Venue
Company

But now the problem I'm experiencing is when I use different
selections of options. For example, when I change it to company, it
removes the div cf_position, but not cf_email. When I then click
person, cf_email is already visible and causes the div to render
incorrectly.

Is their any way to check the state of a div tag first before
executing the code?

[jQuery] Root of my problems

2006-08-26 Thread digital spaghetti
Hey again folks,

Right, I have discovered what seems to be the root cause of why my
stuff wasn't working.

I did some testing locally with jQuery which worked fine, but when I
tried to inegrate it with some stuff in Joomla (the CMS I am using) it
doesn't work correctly.

Here is how I am activating what I am using:

$(document).ready(function(){
$('img').ToolTip('inputsTooltip', { position: 'top' });
$("*").outlineTextInputs();
});

Now, this works fine locally. It also works if I take the code and
create seperate functions, and then activate them with onclick, but
this doesn't work for me design-wise.

I'm not getting any errors in firefox. The only difference is that
locally, the JavaScript is in the head tag, while in Joomla it's
loaded in the componant, but when I view the source it shows fine.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on?

Tane Piper

[jQuery] Dynamic Forms?

2006-08-26 Thread digital spaghetti
Hi there,I'm new to jQuery.  I've tried out a few AJAX things in the past, but I am very happy to settle on jQuery as it seems to have everything a developer could need :)I'm having a bit of trouble though, and I appologise if I sound thick, but I would like to use jQuery to create dynamic forms and I cannot seem to get it to work.
I am creating a Contact tool, and with the tool I have a dropdown that allows you to select the type of contact (person, place, company, etc).  Based on the option selected, I want to present the required fields to the user, and remove fields not required from the view.
I've tried to look through the docs, and cannot find what I am looking for.  What I want to do, is have a script that grabs the value from my select field (name="contact_type" class="contact_type") and based on this value, runs a short script to show and hide the required fields.
I think once I get over this problem, the rest of the development should be relativly easy.Any help would be appreciated.Regards,Tane PiperNo Half Measures
