Re: [slim] Slim Devices SB3 - not responding to remote.

2008-07-12 Thread unclepuncle

I have got the remote apart but there dosen't seem to be anything wrong
with the solder on the pins on the bulb and the circuit board.
The bulb has a metal element inside it and there is a small gap in this
- could that be whats wrong? If so can anyone point me in the right
direction for a replacement for this bulb(maplins etc).

PS. sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology

[slim] Duet controller resets randomly

2008-07-12 Thread smyp

My brand new Duet controller, that I use to control a Squeezebox Classic
with a broken screen, keeps turning black and then restarting again
after a few seconds. This seems to happen randomly when navigating
through the menu. I'm using version 7.0.2 r2448. Any ideas? If it keeps
happening I will have to return the device next week...

[slim] FLAC files now very distorted - MP3s ok

2008-07-12 Thread cronshd

If I play back any FLAC track it starts off ok for about 5 seconds, then
becomes more and more distorted - just breaks up totally.

The FLAC files were fine before - for the last 6 months (and the CDs
were professionally 'FLACed').

My MP3s are all fine.

I use as a Tranquil Server, Windows Home Server.

Has anyone encountered this kind of thing before?

There is no other network activity - apart from playing the music.

Is there anything I can do to check this out?

Thanks.

Wired or wi-fi connection to the player? I'd guess wi-fi and some
interference on the channel, either another wi-fi router, X10 unit or

[slim] .NET conflict

2008-07-12 Thread entrecour

I am running SC 7.0.1 - 19522 on Vista SP1 32bit.

I have just had to install .NET 1.1(and associated SP and Security
update) which is needed by McAfee backup and restore.

After doing this I get a .NET conflict "An unhandled exception has
occurred in your application .Only one usage of each socket
address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted"

SC was working perfectly fine before I installed .NET 1.1, but now it
is stopped unless I restart the machine in which case SC starts but
McAfee backup will not start.

So it seems to me that this could be a conflict between SC and McAfee
Backup with .NET 1.1.

Has any one seen this problem before?

Is it possible to change the socket address for SC to avoid the
conflict?

All guidance constructive appreciated.

[slim] Controlling SS with iTunes?

2008-07-12 Thread jest

I see there was a thread a few years back about controlling a SlimServer
with iTunes, but nothing since. I wonder if this is now possible in any
way?

Apart from the fact that iTunes is a vastly faster interface than the
SS web interface, I'm intrigued by the new Remote app for the iPhone,
that lets you controll iTunes with a nice interface from the iPhone.

There are many times when I do want the features that SS has, but much
of the time, to be honest, I'm just using it to play music from
iTunes--just a connection, in effect, from iTunes to a set of speakers
connected to my stereo instead of my computer. It would be nice to be
able to control this all through the faster iTunes interface. (It would
also satisfy my girlfriend, who's not interested in keeping track of
different interfaces just to hear music at home!)

Re: [slim] FLAC files now very distorted - MP3s ok

2008-07-12 Thread cronshd

Yes - it breaks up - stutters and comes to a halt.

And now it is starting to happen on MP3s - the behaviour is a little
different.it goes distorted/stuttering then starts rebuffering.

So it is not just for FLACs now.

Yes it is wireless - and has been working perfectly for 6 months or
so.

There has been no recent change to the infrastructure in the house.

I have rebooted modem/wireless router.

Is there anything I can test - to see what might be the cause?

I just did a scan for wireless networks - and found my Linksys
(Encrypted) with 100% strength.

I also found another duplicate Linksys - which is Open ie not
encrypted. Not sure what has happened here.Help!!! COuld this be
the cause?

Re: [slim] FLAC files now very distorted - MP3s ok

2008-07-12 Thread aubuti

Like Phil said, run the network health test that comes with SC and
report back. There are a lot of possibilities for the new interference,
such as neighbors with new wireless networks (or just new routers),
2.4GHz phones, etc. You could install NetStumbler to find out what
wireless channel(s) they are operating on and then change your channel
to something that is non-overlapping. NetStumbler will only tell you
about WiFi networks, not cordless phones.

[slim] Couple of questions on new Duet

The SD slot is in the battery compartment. You need to remove the
battery to get at it. At present it's purpose is primarily
(exclusively?) as an alternative method for updating the Controller
firmware.

For flickr, go to Setttings > Screen > Screensavers on the SBC menu

Re: [slim] FLAC files now very distorted - MP3s ok

2008-07-12 Thread cronshd

Hi

I ran NetStumbler (see attached screen dump) - and it shows 2 Linksys
(my SSID) entries. I changed (via the Linksys 192.168.1.1) the channel
to channel 12.

I'm not sure why there are 2 entries as there is only one
modem/router.

I also switched off the cordless phone in the house.

None of this makes a difference - and it still stutters/breaks then
grinds to a halt.

I get 100% wireless strength on the laptop close to the Squeezebox.

I can't run Squeezecenter diagnostic because if I install and run
Squeezecenter, I get the message

-Your player was not found.

If you own a Squeezebox or Transporter:

Make sure that your player is plugged in and its networking settings
are correct. Click the Refresh button once your player is connected.
If you do not own a Squeezebox -

This is by default using the url http://192.168.1.101:9000
If I replace the 192.168.1.101 with 'Server' (the name of my Server)
then SlimServer starts running.

That, and also change your SSID (and admin password) from the default
to something else (it won't help you with SC, but it is a basic

said the page couldn't be loaded. I tried to get to it in IE as well as

Sodo you mean there is another linksys router in da house?

That is not possible - there is just one modem, one router, one
server.

How can I delete that 'rogue' entry?

Anyway as per attached, I went into the linksys url and changed the
channel to 3 (although it shows up on NetStumbler as 3*, 12).

I then rebooted again the Squeezebox. It made no difference.

I am wondering if it is some setting which is about 'buffering' in some
way - as it also is stuttering on Radio. It never used to do any of
this.

I am also wondering if it is connected with the failed attempts to
properly install/connect Squeezecentre - as it was fine with
SlimServer. (Although I have switched off my laptops to test this - and
just have a 'pure' Server - to - Squeezebox configuration).

Any other ideas of things to try?

Re: [slim] FLAC files now very distorted - MP3s ok

2008-07-12 Thread bpa

The 2nd router could be a neighbours not a rogue. Test this possibility
by turning off your linksys router and then run NetStumbler - if there
is only one linksys router left then there is a neighbouring router
causing the problem.

In terms of network testing. From SB3 run the Network Test under
Extras. To play Flac files you need 100% at least 1500kbps sustained
for a few minutes. What is the max speed on your setup where you get
100%.

yesterday i installed firmware 2 on my ipod touch, and next thing was to
install "remote", an application from apple to remote control my itunes.

and today i will put my squeezebox on ebay. i am really sorry to say
that, because i love my squeezebox and i liked very much what i could
do with it. but, apple once again did everything right (a little late,
maybe). I have an ipod and airport express anyway, but now i can use my
ipod touch to remote control itunes on my old serving iMac g3, fast,
easy, no setup hassle, no server whatever IP and so on. It just works,
like listening music on the ipod itself. incredible.

Re: [slim] FLAC files now very distorted - MP3s ok

2008-07-12 Thread cronshd

Hi - ok - yes I think it must be a neighbours device (from a long
distance). I switched mine off and could see on NetStumbler there was
still a Linksys - and if I did Fn+F5 - to scan for wireless networks it
came up. Interestingly, it came up at about 5% strength - and yet now
when I switch my router back on the neightbour Linksys is about 90%.

Anyway, my next question (and btw - thanks so much guys for your
patience and time on this) - is this. When I saw there were duplicate
names a few hours ago (before your 'neighbour suggestion' - I changed
router name and got myself into a bit of mess and so I changed it back.
So I want to know how to changed the SSID in easy steps.

What happened for me to get in a mess?

Ok - the set up here is 1 modem, 1 linksys wireless router, I Tranquil
server and 2 laptops running Windows XP.

1. I went to the Linksys url and changed the SSID to Linksysnew
2. Then I discovered of course, that I lost the connection on Laptop1.
3. On Laptop1 if I go to Windows-Control Panel-Network Connections -
there aren;t any. (I had anticipated I would just go there and make a
change somewhere there).
4. So I went to Laptop2 and managed to connect and change the SSID back
to linksys

...So I appreciate this might be a bit outside of your domain - but if
you could help on this it would be great.

Thanks again.

Have you rebooted Laptop1?

It's odd that there is no network connection on L1 (as L2 is fine if
I'm following you).

Sounds like you need to add a new wireless network connection on L1,
using the Wireless Networking Wizard (or whatever its called).

Re: [slim] bye squeeze, hello ipod

2008-07-12 Thread HectorHughMunro

It certainly looks interesting but it won't do FLAC. Web radio is also
better on Squeezebox. It's also a better audiophile solution.

Although I have a Touch, I don't think I should pay for software
updates as a point of principle. I've paid for one and resented it, I
don't want to pay for anymore - even if it's cheap. Microsoft don't do
it with the Zune and they haven't fallen foul of SOX so why should
Apple? It's a widespread gripe as you can see from many other message
boards.

It would be interesting to see if connection stability is as good or
better. The main fault of the Squeezebox IMO is the way it copes when
it loses connection. The UI on the Touch is years ahead of the one on
the Duet handset albeit on a much more expensive device.

Ok - quick update.

I changed my SSID - and set up Squeezebox with the new id etc - and
reset the network on the PC.

So far..it seems to be working!!

:-)

I've listened to 2 tracks straight through and no stuttering. I hope it
continues!

Thank you very much. I do appreciate your replies.

Meanwhile - there is just the slight problem of getting SqueezeCenter
up and running - should I create a new thread for that?

Ouch - just as I posted - I got a short stutter - although transient it
continued - but it unnerved me a bit.

Is there some way I can do proper test? Apart from listening to stuff
non-stop.

I want to check the 'fidelity' of the sound.

It's not the fidelity that is the issue (it either works perfectly or
it stutters - there's no real middle ground on this).

You need to run the network & server health test. It sounds like you
still have wireless netwrok issues. Your setup has two wireless hope
(server to router, router to SB) so you are on the edge of reliability
IMHO.

Do you know how to run the server test? - enable the plugin, restart SS
and rune the test...report back. You need to get 1500kbps at 100% to
stream FLAC

Ah - good. You should be able to get this working perfectly then.

Right, now what version of server software are you running?
Go to settings - advanced - plugins and enable the Server and Network
Health plug in - then restart the server software.

See that "help" icon on the bottom left of the server home page...click
on it

Then get back online to me!

Re: [slim] FLAC files now very distorted - MP3s ok

2008-07-12 Thread cronshd

Just before we get into that, I think that the 'ouch' just got a stutter
was because Laptop2 was still associated with 'Linksys'. I went to check
out L2 - and music was still playing - then when I started messing with
the network settings (to get it on to the new SSID) I could hear the
music stutter even more.then when I Shut Down L2 and skipped to the
next track - it has...so farbeen perfect.

Anyway the server software is also doing my head in a bit. I was fine
with SlimServer - then I downloaded Squeezecenter - and could not get
it connected to my Squeezebox.(I haven;t tried in the last hour
since SSID change).

So I have the remnants of SlimServer:
SlimServer Version: 6.5.4 - 12568 - Windows Server 2003 - EN - cp1252

I can't see a Server & Network Health plug in.

Here is the screen I am looking at (attached)...

Anyway, from your screenshot it is installed - I just can't remember

No... you need to run the test at 1500 (not 5000) and see what happens.
If it is not 100% then you have a wif-fi issue.

Re: [slim] MusicIP & 7.1 automatic re-scans

2008-07-12 Thread tfish77

Thanks, Brian.

I actually have a nightly task that runs on my computer and adds all
newly added files to my MusicIP library before the scheduled SlimServer
automatic rescan. I can see these tracks in MusicIP, and I can generate
a mix using the MusicIP API in the web interface, but it seems that
SlimServer doesn't know the tracks are mixable - I don't get an empty
mix, rather I get no "m" icon at all.

Hi ok

At 1500, this is the Signal Strenght result so far.

I have a slight confession.I noticed that I had put a large solid
box (of vinyl) in front of the wireless router - and I guess this may
also have had an impact. At least, the average seems to be increasing -
as we speak it is now 43.% and going up. Sorry if that has also been a
contributing factor (I am starting to convert my vinyl).

Re: [slim] bye squeeze, hello ipod

2008-07-12 Thread tharrison

I have one of the old iPhones, and got the new software, including the
remote app. I mostly use iTunes when I want to listen on my computer,
and SB when I want to listen throughout the house.

The iPhone "remote" is cool because it is not IR -- it uses the
iPhone's wireless connection to talk to iTunes on the computer. Slick.
So it would be totally cool for me to have iTunes running and providing
a menu and have it play using the SB's player.

Yet I have been struggling for several years now to make the iTunes
support in SlimServer work completely, notably with playlists.
Sometimes it works, then I upgrade, or make a change and then it sort
of works, or rescanning fails, or playlists are listed but contents are
not read, etc, etc, etc.

Sure, Apple's not making life easy for anyone but themselves, and
iTunes is a moving target (and don't get me started about DRM :-) but
the Slim/Logitech folks can either fight, or they can embrace iTunes.

I love my SqueezeBoxes. I have been using this product for years now.
When it works it's great. But I have to say that it frequently doesn't
work, and it's frustrating enough to throw up my hands and go the
AirTunes direction ... and know it will just work.

So rather than making remarks about people who use iTunes or are
thrilled with the idea of the Remote application for the iPhone,
perhaps the community could recognize that we're not all audiophiles,
and sometimes it's just nice to listen to music without pain and
suffering!

(And PS. Someone should write an iPhone application for SB that works
just like the iTunes remote. That would be cool).

Itunes is great if you like a bloated Drm laden library / store that

The 2 network strength tests are completely different.

On the SS network test you need that line (near the bottom) that says
>=100% to say 100.

The way a laptop interacts with a router is very different to the way
that an SB interacts with its server via the router.

I bet you can browse the web just fine on your laptop? - means nothing
when it comes to streaming music to an SB.

It is possible that there is something else happening.
Did you "enable performance monitoring"?

You need "buffer fullness" to be 100% too...you can see that on there.

Do I need some signal boosting equipment?

Yes - I enabled Performance Monitoring - that gave the stats I sent.

The buffer though did not produce any numbers - it was always

...is that another issue?

At the moment - listening to a FLAC album - it seems just fine btw.
Obviously I would like to get it to 100% if that is the appropriate

Well basically if it works ok for you...then it works OK! but I sense
you are on the edge and may suffer in the future.

Do you have neighbours who might have wi-fi? Try changing the channel

[slim] Am liking 802.11n!

2008-07-12 Thread amcluesent

So having set-up my D-Link DIR-655 and D-link DWA-547 PCI adaptor on the
Vista music server, I thought some tests would be useful to see how the
draft 801.11n link could cope. Plenty of peeps say a double wi-fi link
isn't too clever.

In this config I was able to stream 24/96 FLAC to my TP, and 16/44.1
FLAC to my Duet, SB3 and Softsqueeze on my lap-top, all connected on
wi-fi (802.11g). All at the same time!

Perhaps I won't have to run Ethernet cabling after all.

Re: [slim] bye squeeze, hello ipod

2008-07-12 Thread simbo

A few people I know haven't been bowled over by my Squeezebox setup
(albeit in the minority ;-), saying they can achieve the same thing on
their iPods and docking stations. Trying to explain the differences is
futile; multi-room, FLAC and sound quality mean little to your
common-or-garden iPod owner (especially the latter *ahem*).

But to be honest I think they're onto something. The current gen iPod
Classics have 80Gb storage, plenty for a normal user's music collection
(or at least the subset of their collection they actually listen to) and
each generation's storage is likely to increase at the rate of a normal
user's collection.

There will always be people who find this setup inadequate, most of
whom are on this forum, but if Logitech want to increase growth they're
going to have to appeal to the iPod-owning market and find a USP that
attracts them to the Squeezebox.

[slim] Duet Controller Restarts

Sorry if this has been brought up before, I did a search and found

Has anyone ever seen the Duet controller restart itself? I was working

looked at it, and sure enough, it had restarted itself with no one
touching it.

The Controller is currently running version 7.0.1 r2448.

Any clue why it would do this, and more importantly, how to make it
stop?

Thanks for any advice.

[slim] How to switch Duet receiver from Wireless to Ethernet?

2008-07-12 Thread brookheather

I setup my new Duet receiver to connect using wireless but due to the
low signal strength inside the sideboard I have connected it directly
to my ethernet network. However the receiver does not seem to want to
switch to the ethernet network. I have tried removing the power but it
still stays connected (poorly) to my wireless network. The orange light
is solid on the ethernet connection and the green light flickers briefly
when the receiver boots but stays off when I'm playing music so this
indicates to me that it is not using ethernet.

How do I get the receiver to connect via ethernet?

[slim] Musicgiants downloads misbehaving

2008-07-12 Thread dtz

I just downloaded a couple of albums from Musicgiants. Although these
albums are recognized and playable in both WinAmp and Windows Media
Player, only one of the albums is seen in Slim Server 6.5.4. The other
album's title can be seen only in the Music Folder showing "All Songs"
but no songs are listed. If I select the play button, anything
currently playing will be deleted from the playlist with nothing
replacing it. The left screen of my Transporter shows the directory
path to the album but with no songs. I even copied these songs to other
directories but Slim Server still doesn't recognize them. The files have
.WMA extensions. I'm using Windows XP Pro. If neither of the two albums
I downloaded could play I would think something might be amiss with DRM
or Musicgiants. But since one seems completely normal it is especially
puzzling. Anyone have a similar experience? Thanks for any replies.

works fine.

an end all solution to home stereo. I have an 80gb classic but why
would I want to use it when all my music is on my computer. Much
handier and better decoding. I can use any program I want to change my
music and use any format I want. People think they have problems with a
SB wait until they have a problem with itunes. It can wipe your library
pretty good. Not saying that happens all the time but it does happen.
With the SB you might not be able to play your music for a bit. I've
had my SB3 for about 8 months now and can't say that I've had 5 mins of
downtime with it and I run beta's almost always. In my mind the SB does
not compare with an Ipod for a portable device and the Ipod and itunes
do not compare for home stereo with the SB.

Re: [slim] MusicIP & 7.1 automatic re-scans

2008-07-12 Thread tfish77

I just set my MusicIP reload interval to 1, and it immediately kicked
off a re-scan, here's the results:

Code:

  Directory Scan (3 of 3) Complete 01:17:03

  Playlist Scan (24 of 24) Complete 00:01:50

Merge Various Artists (6262 of 6262) Complete 00:01:53

  Database Cleanup #1 (60989 of 60989) Complete 00:13:27

  Database Cleanup #2 Complete 00:01:08

  Database Optimize Complete 00:03:17

SqueezeCenter has finished scanning your music collection.
  01:38:38

As you can see, the MusicIP import never happened. Is this a bug in
7.1? I couldn't find any reference to it in bugzilla, but I'm not sure
if I should add it - I can't tell if it's a bug or if my settings need
to be changed.

Re: [slim] SB3 appears dead

2008-07-12 Thread Aztek

Thanks Phil and Avta - tried both suggestions but to no avail - still
not booting up. My SB3 is always plugged in and so is usually slightly
warm to touch. It is currently cold suggesting that it is not getting
power to the internal power supply perhaps. Guess I am stuck with a
dead unit as it is 2.5 years old and outside its warranty - although
for the cost it should last longer than that. Worst of all - this is my
only source of music now and so it is going to be a quiet house!!!

Do you think it is worth taking it along to an electronics shop for
them to look at? If so, what would be the best type of serviceman to
work on this - computer tech or tv/audio tech?

Many thanks,
Mike

Re: [slim] MusicIP & 7.1 automatic re-scans

2008-07-12 Thread Brian Ritchie

So the MIP import isn't happening at all. Yet you can still generate
mixes from *some* tracks... ? Odd!

I'm afraid this is new to me. If it's a bug in 7.1 then it's one I've
so far avoided (touch Formica). For a long, long time, I could only
generate mixes from playlists; I'm still not sure what finally fixed
it! But I'm fairly sure that recent additions are mixable (yes, just
tried one now; well, first mix was Empty, so visited the MIP server web
page which seems to kick-start it somehow). When I add new music, my
"workflow" is:

- rip and tag
- run MIP GUI and let it find and analyse new tracks
- once it's finished, visit the MIP server web page
- this should tell me that the cache has changed on disc
- click "reload cache"
- now start a scan (usually for new/changed) in SC
- go for a long walk or something :-)
(MIP import *always* takes 30 minutes, no matter how little new
stuff there is!)

So far, that's always worked.

BTW, I still have the Music folder checked in SC as well. Most
instructions suggest leaving this unchecked, but it doesn't seem to do
me any harm, and I hit other problems (no artwork!) when I tried
unchecking it.

Re: [slim] SB3 appears dead

2008-07-12 Thread Wirrunna

Aztek,
The exact same thing happened to my SB3 a week ago. Cold, no display
but red LED on in the little square optical link on the back.
So, after trying all the same things that people suggested for you I
reluctantly unscrewed the back and measured the volts with my trusty
meter - only 3.87, should be 5.00 indicating that the little switch
mode PSU had semi failed.
I plugged in a PSU from my second SB3 and all worked again.
I'm now down to one SB3 until I build a new 5 volt power supply as
buying a replacement unit in Australia is impossible.
My advice then is to try and borrow a PSU from another SB3 to see if
your SB3 is still OK - if you cannot borrow a PSU, then take it to your
local Electronics shop and ask them to test the PSU - it should be able
to supply 5 volts at 2 amps, they should also be able to rig up a 5
volt supply to test the SB3.

You guys appear to be mixing up the two different tests, wifi signal
strength one and the network test one (easy to do because the graphs
look the same).

cronshd posted the details of his wifi signal strength test showing him
managing 40-50% on it. Phil then responded saying "you NEED to get 100%
at 1500 not 40-50%".

It is true that he needs to get 100% at 1500, but not on the wifi
strength test. He needs to achieve the 100% on the network test screen.
It is perfectly possible to get that while only achieving 40-50% on the
wifi test and you are never likely to see 100% on the wifi strength
test screen. It is obviously best to try and get the highest possible
response on the wifi test though.

N.B. I'm not trying to say that the advice Phil gave to try and fix the
problem was wrong, that was spot on, just pointing out that the two of
you were looking at two different tests...

Re: [slim] SB3 appears dead

2008-07-12 Thread Aztek

Thanks - mine is exactly the same. So if I understand you correctly - it
is the external power supply that is not delivering the required 5v to
SB3 therefore resulting in it to be unable to boot up. I guess the
fact that there is a red light behind the optical input suggest that at
least some power is getting there. Is it possible that the problem is
internal or do you think it in your case it is the external power
supply that is the problem?

Re: [slim] bye squeeze, hello ipod

2008-07-12 Thread Random Access

I'm sorry to hear that it has taken some of you so many years to realize
that you can remote control iTunes with your phone.

There is a program called Salling Clicker.
With it you can control iTunes, Windows Media Player and more.
It works with OS X and with Windows.
It works on just about any phone with a few exceptions.
Many smartphones have wifi, otherwise you can use bluetooth.

iTunes can stream to an Airport Express.
Or... you can use Airfoil and stream from any application to your
Airport Express (or to another computer). I can get bit perfect from
any app on OS X but I have had trouble getting bit perfect on Windows
except with iTunes.

iTunes users don't really need FLAC since they have ALAC. Just about
every ipod out there can handle ALAC. You can also convert FLAC to
ALAC. IPOD classic has up to 160GB storage. It also has line out. It's
a good way to have a backup of all your music.

The quality of the DAC on the airport express isn't the best out there
but all you audiophiles can use the optical out into your own DACs.

Squeezebox allows you to stream music without interacting with the
computer. It's a totally different concept than remote controlling your
computer to playback audio onto a remote audio device. Both methods have
their uses and purposes.

In my case it was the external supply not giving enough volts or amps.

See my earlier post for a replacement - I added the info in an edit
while you were posting.
Take your PSU to Jaycar and get the replacement. Ask them to set up the
plug correctly, centre positive. Should cost you about $25NZ and have
you going by lunch time !

connected the dnm's from the buffer to the amp and there isn't any
humming so i know that it is the dac-buffer/amp connection that is the
problem. would it be a grounding issue or a cable shielding issue? any
ideas on how to fix this problem?

[slim] Recommend Tool for making Playlists for flac

2008-07-12 Thread kimballhouse

I am looking for a good software tool to generate playlists to play
through a SB3. I have about 1000 discs as flac files and another 200
or so MP3s.

I find the SC web interface slow and non-intuitive. It is also
unfortunate that there is no fast-forward function, as I have a hard
time remembering songs from the title. iTunes is very easy tool with
which to assemble playlists, and the fast forward function makes it
very quick, but it does not recognize flac files.

Does anyone have a suggestion of a tool that can be used to assemble
playlists using flac files? Having a mechanism to listen to a clip of
the song would be a key feature.
