Re: [slim] SqueezePlay for Windows with ASIO, DirectSound, WASAPI and WDMKS device support.

2015-01-23 Thread ralphy

A new build of squeezeplay is available which fixes a few minor issues
and patches the known security vulnerabilities in the flac 1.2.1
decoder.

See post #1 in this thread for details.

portaudio should have nothing to do with the backlight and yes, I'd
recommend using squeezelite for a player on windows and jivelite to
control it.

There is no way that I'm aware to have the backlight turned off with the
screen saver.

If it's always staying on, you can try setting the environment variable
name

SDL_VIDEO_ALLOW_SCREENSAVER

with a value of 1

and then the windows screensaver you've defined should work.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 3 common faults over time?

2015-02-24 Thread ralphy

I've often wondered if using the mono IR emitter in the headphone jack
on the SB3 could be the cause of the left channel failure.

Having used IR blaster on one of my SB3s for several years. A few
months ago I tried the analog outs only to discover it had developed the
left channel volume drop issue.

I have two other SB3s purchased at the same time and the analog outs are
fine having never used the emitter with them.

I ordered new caps, but have not yet replaced them as I'm concerned they
will just fail again if I continue to use the IR emitter.

Can anyone corroborate or refute my suspicions?

BuddyRich was asking about squeezeplay not squeezelite.

All my squeezelite windows builds include portaudio as a dll.

You can extract the portaudio.dll from the older version of squeezelite
for windows zip file that worked for you and replace the newer
portaudio.dll with it.

Thanks Jim for debunking my theory.

I now at least have some incentive to make the repair.

At the moment I'm only using digital out on that SB3.

When/if I make the repair I will take some pics and notes.

Here is another thread on the subject.

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?71914-SB3-volume-output-lower-on-left-than-right-channel

I've attached the pdf of the schematic for the SB2 DAC that Sean Adams
links to in that thread which is no longer active.
It's the same for the SB3 except the silk screen component names are
different.

Hi Thomas,

Create the file /etc/default/squeezeslave and add a line with a unique
mac address and another with the server hostname or ip address.
Ideally you need to get the mac address of the hardware your running
squeezeslave on and use that in place of the "random" mac I placed here
as an example.

# cat /etc/default/squeezeslave
SSMAC="00:10:99:98:97:09"
SBSHOST="sbs01"

The /etc/init.d/squeezeslave startup script uses these SSMAC and
SBSHOST values if they are set, otherwise the defaults set in the init
script
SSMAC="00:00:00:00:00:01"
SBSHOST="localhost"
are used.

I've seen this issue before, but it was related to the alsa hda kernel
driver.

A workaround was added to portaudio a while ago and is included in the
latest 1.1-253 release.

You must use the portaudio library from the squeezeslave svn as it
contains additional fixes that are not in pa trunk at the moment.

What svn revision are you compiling for your debug binary?

What makefile are you using? Please post the modified version.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.0 released

2011-09-01 Thread ralphy

I've just completed merging the empeg Mk2 / Rio Car Mk2a port from
rpress into trunk.

You can see a pic of squeezeslave running on the car player in 'post
193'
It uses the same display format as the boom, very cool! The server
requires a patch to support the empeg player. An empeg package and the
patch are currently on 'googlecode'

The changes also bring server discover support -F/--discovery to
squeezeslave. For the moment it's only supported for unix based
players, but I plan to include windows support eventually.

I've uploaded an 'r281 windows zip'
to googlecode first as that usually gets downloaded the most and so
hopefully helps test the changes a bit quicker. I'll upload linux and
osx updates over the next couple days.

r273 in trunk is the last revision before the empeg branch was merged.

Post any issues discovered with the updates to this thread.

Thanks,

The portaudio library failed to write samples to the audio device
within the timeout period. It's an issue with the audio device not
squeezeslave.

Since you're using asio4all you'll need to look at the configuration
for it. Squeezeslave has no control over the device(s) it points to.
Alternatively, you can try using the direct sound version
squeezeslave.exe -L, find the device and then start squeezeslave with
-oN where N is the device number listed before the colon. See the wiki
for more details.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.0 released

2011-09-19 Thread ralphy

@s7mx1

Squeezeslave does not open/close the audio device during pause/resume.
It opens the device when squeezeslave starts and keeps it open until the
program exits. It's more likely the issue is related to power saving
where the tablet is turning off the audio hardware and the port audio
library is not notified of the event.

If you pause and resume within a few seconds do you see the same
effect?

Is there a way to verify what state the audio hardware is in after
you've paused squeezeslave for a longer time?

I'll check the portaudio change logs for a similiar issue. I'm using a
older snapshot of the PA library. If there's a fix for a similiar issue
I'll make a newer PA source tar file for you to try.

Yes.

You will need to provide the hostname or ip address of the server.

If you're running more than one copy of squeezeslave you'll need to add
-m00:00:00:00:00:02 to the command line when you start the second
squeezeslave.

Run squeezeslave -h for a full list of command line options.

Squeezeslave does not have the ability to modified alsa pcm mixers.

It can modify OSS pcm mixers, but you must be using an OSS device and
add -von to the command line when starting it.

I've committed the zones patch at r286 as a compile time feature.

You'll need to define -DZONES in the CFLAGS variable in the makefile.

I was unable to get the zones feature to work on OSX or windows so I'm
not comfortable adding it as a default feature.

Thanks for the patch.

I've uploaded a 'combined ASIO, Direct Sound and WASAPI windows binary'
and an 'OSX Univeral binary'
to googlecode for testing.

Server discovery is now supported on windows. (-F/--discovery)

If you have more than one squeezebox server on your network,
squeezeslave will connect to the first server that responds to the
query packet.

Server discovery does not always work when your system has more than
one active network interface. You may have to continue to specify the
squeezebox server name on the command line.

You can now also select the output device by name. (-n/--name)

See 'this post'
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=634644&postcount=167) for
details.

I've also fixed a crash in the windows version caused when Control-C
was pressed while running from a command window and (-D/--display) was
not enabled.

The audio device id most likely changed r299 and r305 support DS, ASIO
and WASAPI in the same binary.

I'd check -L and what you're using to choose the device either -n or -o

Since you didn't mention what the last working version was I can't say
more.

Server discovery -F will only work if the two networks are bridged.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.0 released

I've sent you a test build to try via email.

Squeezeslave does everything I need except wma decoding which I have
working but it's not ready for general consumption yet. Beyond that
I'm not planning any new development.

I suspect squeezeslave currently works with Triode's spotify plugin, if
the check for direct streaming support in the player was removed from
the plugin. But I haven't tested that, so I could be totally wrong.

I've had 4-5 forum members offer to look at adding support for other
sampling rates, but so far no one has submitted any patches to test. I
have indicated that it requires a lot of rewriting of the code to get
working and I'm not prepared to spend the time to do so.

Not sure about --discoverylist, I'll investigate it.

You can see the discovery status if you run -dslimproto --discovery

I've updated -l/--lcd LCDd (lcdproc) to use Priorities keywords instead

Looks like your audio device doesn't like the default low latency
setting used.

Try adding -y84 to the command line when starting squeezeslave. If you
still see those errors increase the 84 in increments of 10 until you no
longer see the error messages.

It's a "bug" in the sheeva kernel

The kirkwood arm cpu doesn't handle Memory Mapped pcm devices.

These builds are likely to be the next stable build of squeezeslave.

Re: [slim] Squeezeslave hanging

2011-12-27 Thread ralphy

1. Try adding -N to command line when starting squeezeslave, you must
run it as the root user or use sudo for -N to work.

2. Try adding -y84 to command line in addition to -N.

3. Try using a usb audio dongle to eliminate the possibility that it's
the ALSA audio driver for your sound card.

Please post the output from -L which includes the sound card which is
hanging if all of the above fail.

Yes that makefile is very old. I've adapted the one I created for
freebsd-sparc64 for i386 and attached it. It's not tested.

You need to have ports pth, bash, gmake and lirc installed.

gmake -f makefile.freebsd-i386.txt realclean
gmake -f makefile.freebsd-i386.txt

Please report success/failure here as I'll update the old intel
makefile when you get it to build.

The empeg version of squeezeslave uses gcc 2.95.3 and we don't
encounter those errors.

For the ARM processor you should be using the tremor decoder instead of
vorbis.

contrib/makefile.linux26-armel-nofpu-oss-display should be the closest
to what will work. You should only need to change 2 lines.

ALSA does not allow sharing of the physical device. Once XBMC is
running it opens the device which blocks squeezeslave from "seeing" it.

That error is coming from the system alsa library.

The only thing I can suggest at the moment is to add -Y/dev/null to the
command line and the error message(s) will be redirected to "bit

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released

2012-03-07 Thread ralphy

Try this 'ZONES enabled build'

You'll need to add -z1/2 to your command line. It should create a new
player unless you have already added -m.

This features was provided by odedn. See this 'post'
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=658506&postcount=242) for
details.

If you get the error 'Invalid number of channels', then you'll need to
adjust the -z option. Also don't forget to select the asio device on
the command line.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released

Happy you figured it out and that the ZONES feature works with ASIO.

To enable the ZONES feature you need to add -DZONES to the CFLAGS= line
in the makefile.

There are build instructions on the wiki (see my sig), however they are
out of date for v1.2 as the windows binary now supports all 3 audio
drivers and more out of date for trunk.

I plan to enable ZONES in trunk soon. As it's a fairly new feature I
wasn't comfortable enabling it for the v1.2 release.

I have a couple things for you to try.

1. Remove -DUSE_SIGNALS_FOR_RESTART from the CFLAGS in
makefile.linux26-i64-alsa-display and rebuild

Code:

make -f makefile.linux26-i64-alsa-display clean
  make -f makefile.linux26-i64-alsa-display

2. Run squeezeslave, any build, adding -dslimproto to your existing
command line. Report the line that starts with proto_sigpipe:

Mine looks like

Code:

proto_sigpipe: MSG_NOSIGNAL

I expect yours to be different.

I'll have further suggestions based on the reported MSG.

I assume the *n/3* are copy/paste errors?

The zones feature has never worked for me either, that's part of the
reason I didn't include it in the last release.

I suspect what's happening is the output device uses a format other
than 16-bits which is correctly assumed by the zones patch as it is the
only format supported by squeezeslave.

I'll need to investigate further to be sure.

Re: [slim] SiriusXM on a Squeezebox

I use the same plugin as Jeff but it can be installed automatically.

You need to disable the 'SiriusXM Internet Radio' plugin on the
settings Plugins tab first.

Add this url to Additional Repositories at the bottom of the plugins
tab.

http://notsosirius-squeezecenter.googlecode.com/svn/tags/repo.xml

Apply the changes and you'll see (not so) Sirius Internet Radio (v1.1)
in the list of plugins, check the Enable box, apply and restart the
server.

Then you can enter your account info my clicking settings to the right
of the plugin listing.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released

Thanks for the info. I've not seen that error before.

Could you see if you get the same problem with the zones build from a
few posts back?

Currently -n will always match the DS device first as it does not
include the device type in the search. You'll need to you -o7 as it
only matches "BEHRINGER USB AUDIO". I ran into the same issue a few
days ago. I'll look at adding the device type at the beginning into
the search.

There is link in the 1st post on using -n.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released

2012-04-08 Thread ralphy

This is a problem with the current portaudio library. It sounds like
squeezeslave doesn't find the hdmi device you've defined with -o/-n and
reverts to the default 'Built-in Output'

The device must be present when squeezeslave starts and must remain
active the entire time squeezeslave is running.

Try running squeezeslave -L with the tv off and again with the tv on.
Are the lists different?

I've uploaded a 'new OSX test build'
using the latest portaudio library for you to try. However I don't
expect this to fix the issue as the device renumeration feature is still
in development.

The newer builds includes WASAPI support which is only available on
Vista/Win7. My research on this indicates that the avrt.dll is not for
XP and really should never have been installed by what app did so. I've
made a change in the 'r323 build'
which might stop this error from popping up. I guess you'd need to
rename avrt.dll back to it's original to try it.

The 'r323 build'
also has a new command line option (-t/--audiotype) to limit the
(-n/--name) search to one audio type.

Try this on the command line.

-tASIO -n"BEHRINGER USB AUDIO" -L

You should see the * next to device 7.

Looking at the code reveals that the audio device is opened outside the
retry loop and is never reinitialized if the connection is dropped.
Which is what happens when the system drops to sleep. I'll investigate
how this should be handled with the portaudio library.

Right now I'm trying to track down the remote streaming hang with 7.4.

I've identified the change in SBS 7.4 which was causing Squeezeslave to
hang playing remote streams.

New 'Win32'
and 'OSX'
r133 beta builds are available. The source repository has also been
updated with the latest changes.

Please report any problems in this thread. If things look good, I'll
create a new 1.0 release build in a few weeks.

Thanks to Adrian for providing a patch to SS to work around the server
side change.

Does sound work after sleep using the standard squeezeslave.exe direct
sound binary? Would you try sleeping the direct sound version and
report back?

Are you using 32 or 64-bit Win7?

I'm trying to determine whether it's the asio libportaudio or
squeezeslave but I don't have Windows 7 to test this with yet.

I have found that building from source is usually required. Follow the

I've been working on adding WASAPI support to squeezeslave.

Looks like you need to install the gcc compiler packages.

I don't know the debian package names required but I believe when you
install the OS there's an option to install all development packages.
I'm sure you can do it after install as well. Perhaps another member
can help here, alternatively, ask on a debian user mail list.

I rename the binaries for the distribution files.

What command(s) did you use to build the binary?

What do these commands display?

./squeezeslave -V
./Squeezeslave -L

I've used squeezeslave successfully with VMWare Server, so I know it
works, provided you've added the sound card device to the VM and enabled
it.

You really haven't provided enough information to help you further.

I'll try that tonight.

One problem I noticed is that r65 will only work the first time you
play a remote stream after that it will hang since you are using SBS
7.4.x.

You need to use r133 or newer for squeezeslave to work correctly.

I've got squeezeslave working with VMWare Server 1.10 from the
vmware-server-console.
Make sure you've added the Sound Card device to the VM configuration
and specified the /dev/dsp device, don't use automatic.

If you're running the vm console app on linux, make sure you 'modprobe
snd-pcm-oss' as it only works with OSS.

You need to install these additional packages for a successful build.

aptget install bzip2
aptget install g++
aptget install libogg-dev # I need to fix this dependancy in the
makefiles, but for now install it.

Checkout the code.

svn checkout
http://squeezeslave.googlecode.com/svn/squeezeslave/trunk/squeezeslave

Make the binary.

cd squeezeslave
make -f makefile.linux26-alsa-display realclean
make -f makefile.linux26-alsa-display

bin/squeezeslave -V
squeezeslave 0.9-133
compile flags: linux portaudio:1420 debug signals interactive daemon
...Copyright removed...

Start squeezeslave.

bin/squeezeslave -r15 &

By default, alsa mutes ALL devices. In the VM run 'alsamixer', unmute
Master and increase level to 100%. You might need to do the same for
the PCM slider, I didn't need to this. Once you get the levels right,
Ubuntu saves them on shutdown and restores them to the same settings at
next boot.

Increase the volume for the squeezeslave player in the web gui to
full.

Play something.

I deleted the VM, restored the original and replayed my steps. It
worked both times.

Good luck,

Ralphy

Be thankful that you have a version of squeezeslave the works and
sleeps on OSX, you didn't have that 6 months ago.

If you can't wait 20 seconds for your system to shutdown or bother to
pause play before shutting down, then perhaps one of the other soft
players would be better for you. Neither of these issues are "show
stoppers", you have work arounds, I don't use OSX and since it's my free

Do you see OO or MM at the bottom of each slider? They should all be

No offence was intended and I'm happy that you find squeezeslave
useful.

I do appreciate the input you have provided. You have mentioned this
issue on several occasions and we did manage to fix the hanging issue
after sleep. It's extremely hard for me to dev/test for OSX as I don't
have the necessary hardware to duplicate issues, only access to an old
10.4 build environment.

Perhaps the sleepwatcher program chris mentioned would be a good
alternative.

Would you please try after a sleep cycle in which the audio cannot be

Good to know.

I've uploaded an 'ASIO only'
package for you to try.

This release was built with the latest portaudio development library
r1485 and the latest cygwin build tools. Other than these two
differences the code is identical to the 0.9-133 asio release.

I tested this binary on WinXP with the ASIO4ALL driver and it recovered
from sleep including the audio. I started SS from the command line
using;

squeezeslave-asio-0.9-139.exe -r15 sbshostname

I then started a playlist and let it play for a few minutes and then
stopped the player.

Then I let the computer go to sleep.

When I resumed the system I had the message 'Retry in 15 seconds.' in
the command prompt, I waited for the player to show up again in the
gui, restarted the previous play list and it worked including the
audio.

I hope it works for you as well. Let me know.

Thanks,

Ralphy

I was hoping to reproduce your problem with the ASIO4All driver. :(

Have you tried a similiar test with another application the uses the

Add -m00:00:00:00:00:02 to the command line of the second player.

Use the number to the left of the device list from -L with the -o
command line option.

Since squeezeslave runs on other platforms as well as linux, there
needs to be more generic way to select the output device.

Please see the output from -h for a complete list of available options
and their usage.

The server should add a number after the name for each additional
squeezeslave player that connects to it. If it didn't I suspect your
server.prefs file is screwed up from starting multiple players with the
same mac address.

Yes, that should be the case.

Yes. The spdif device must also support 44.1KHz 16-bit audio or
squeezeslave will not list the device in -L.

Yes, you need to setup a custom-convert.conf file. Search the forums
it's been discussed at length.

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-04-03 Thread ralphy

I've uploaded a few binaries built against the latest portaudio
development library for users to try.

The 0.9-133 release uses different library snapshot versions on
different OS platforms. I need to bring all OS releases to the same
library level for easier maintainability.

In the past users have reported issues with audio devices not listed
with the newer snapshots.

The downloads below are for these platforms that I'd like additional
feedback. ie. I don't have the necessary hardware to properly test the
changes.

The Mac OSX builds include fixes to Snow Leopard 10.6 CoreAudio issues
and the portaudio libary.

Please give them a try and report back to this thread if -L no longer
lists your audio device that a previous version recognized.

'Mac OSX Intel/PPC Portaudio r1485'

You don't have the lirc library and headers installed.

I'm currently refactoring the makefiles to reduce the number I have to
maintain, so the wiki is a bit out of date.

The makefile.linux26-alsa makefile has been relocated to the deprecated
directory.

You can run make -f deprecated/makefile.linux26-alsa to build an
equivalent 0.9-133 binary

OR

apply the patch below to makefile.linux26-alsa-display for a 0.9-143
build.

Code:

Can you confirm that you include --retry -r15 on the squeezeslave
command line?

I know you've been testing the updated builds, what ASIO build are you
currently using?
There was a bug in 0.9-95 that would cause this problem as well.

Thanks for the offer, unfortunately, I didn't see your post earlier.
I'm not sure I'd have had any additional things to try at this point
anyway. I looked at the audio device open/close code again recently
and confirmed that squeezeslave does correctly handle reopening the
device when one of the retry options are used.

Thanks again for your help tracking down this issue.

It might not work for you but it's fine for myself and others. The
patch is just a work around for now. You can just check out -r136 from
subversion if you can't build using the makefile from deprecated
directory I posted earlier.
