RE: Outlook Web Access attachments

If you export the message in outlook to an EML and then open the EML file in
notepad, you should be able to see the MIME types of the attachments.

I would make a bet that one of them is actually not a binary XLS file, but an

Exchange 2003 SP2 Outlook Web Access. I have an e-mail with two .XLS
attachments where one opens directly and one has to be saved to disk first.
.XLS is not in the Level1FileTypes or Level2FileTypes registry key on the OWA
server.

Why the difference in behavior? It seems like it could be because of the
Level1MIMETypes & Level2MIMETypes registry keys. Can different attachments
have different MIME types and how can I tell?

Thanks.

I am running Win7 64-bit and IE 64-bit at home and can connect to OWA just fine

mentioned.

Can they reach OWA without first connecting to the VPN?

I go straight to our OWA page without first connecting to our network, from

One thing I have found that will solve weird problems with a machine below
professional when connecting with a domain is to change the workgroup name to
the name of your domain.

Is OWA access allowed outside of your network? If so, can the user connect
successfully to OWA without the VPN active?

One thing I have been trying to do is to get my clients to set minimum
standards for user owned home machines in order to be allowed access to the
company network. There seems to be a high degree of resistance in the market we
service to something like this.

Another factor may have to do with the local machine's firewall. Check the
settings. I had a connection problem with a person's home machine. I did this,
I did that, I did the other thing, and nothing was working. I was convinced it
was a firewall problem, but all the proper pots were open. Then, out of
nowhere, another A/V program popped up to the surface. Turned out he had two
A/V programs installed. Uninstalled one, and problem miraculously disappeared.
User had no idea how the other A/V got on the machine--yeah, right!

There was an update for OWA because Microsoft lost a patent case.

Having an issue where you run Microsoft Outlook Web Access and if you choose

However, if you choose Premium mode, you can put in To:, CC:, Subject, etc. but
the frame where you would type your message body is not accessible - the web

Anyone seen this or know about it?

I'm using IIS4. I'll try to figure out how to create my own certificate.
Thanks. Any ideas on how to force the SSL authentication once that is
complete? Maybe someone could direct me to some useful documentation on the
subject. Thanks!

Yea I did.
We love DirectNIC for managing domains. We have about 100 and they have a
web GUI that allows me to make global changes at the click of a button. They
are fast, good and inexpensive. As for SSL. I got the cert in about 3 days.

RE: Outlook Web Access and SSL

2002-05-21 Thread John Allhiser

1)Marketing techniques
Their bulk mail campaign warning people that their domain name
registration is about to expire, and if they would just follow these directions
Verisign will take care of the renewal. The catch is the domain wasn't
originally registered with Verisign. It reminded me too much of the "long
distance wars" of a few years ago.

2)Call center support
This was a problem in the past, but I think they have updated their tech
database. We created the problem by moving a server to a different domain and
upgrading to 2K. During the move, the current cert expired. It was a situation
where the cert (not the request) had to be manually created. Second tier
support did this without a hitch. The struggle was getting past the call
support to get this done. It wasn't in their script so to speak. I guess that
is somewhat typical of most helpdesks.

Not really any serious bitch about them, but they do remind me of the Borg. :)

outlook 2000 client fine.  A director has bought a house in a remote
location in is using Directway Satellite Internet Service.  The VPN
connections don't work on Directway so voila, I'm going to use OWA.  I
want to use SSL.  May be a dumb question, but can I use SSL without having
to obtain a certificate from a certificate providing authority.  Takes too
long.  I gotta go out to his house this weekend.

Excahnge 2000 Outlook web Access Inbox does not load (Q315515)

2002-04-27 Thread Raghu KASTURY

When I try to login to OWA, the right pane of the inbox shows loading...
but does not show messages. Microsoft knowledge base Q315515 suggets to
add atleast one language in IE options general language. These settings
are already there.

when we access OWA using any ISP other than the one who is providing us
the web address and redirecting the MX pointer to our server, Inbox shows
up correctly

Can any one help us what could be the reason. Is this a problem with the
ISP's settings?

Are you using SSL encryption? IIRC, you can only change passwords via SSL.

Hi, I have only just started to troubleshoot this, so forgive me if I am
somewhat vague in my description, but I thought perhaps someone else has
seen similar, and may be able to fire a suggestion my way, off of the top of
their head.

My problem is that in OWA, either remotely, or on the LAN, when you go to
the options section, and click on Change Password, you are returned only
with a new window with Page Cannot Be Displayed, with no HTTP error number
etc. I am assuming it is an IIS issue, but thought I would throw this out
there now, as I start to look into this.

TIA in advance for any help or suggestions.

William is correct, to "enable" the change password function in OWA you will
need to have SSL on the OWA server(s). Try looking at Q267596.

RE: Outlook Web Access Sent Items

2002-03-14 Thread Siegfried Weber

Here's the deal:

OWA (5.5 definitely and IMHO 2000 also) can use the views created with
Outlook under a particular special circumstance. That is:

If you create a new view with Outlook as "This folder visible to
everyone" and have the setting "Automatically generate Microsoft
Exchange views" on the folder properties enabled (default) the view will
be, maybe with some delay, available in OWA.

My guess is now that those of your clients who see the "Sent Items" view
have modified their own "Sent Items" view with Outlook (maybe only
changed the column size). Why would this cause OWA to show such a view?

The point is that the "Sent Items" view shown in Outlook actually isn't
a built-in Outlook view. It is a view *created* by Outlook on your Sent
Items folder. This "Sent Items" view is actually a view of the type
"This folder visible to everyone" and you can see that it if you look at
the folder Properties|Administration tab and open the dropdown list.
You'll see "Sent Items" listed there. This dropdown only lists view of
the type "This folder visible to everyone".

Makes sense?

Outlook Web Access Sent Items

2002-03-14 Thread Ken Leyba

I have a user that wants to display the To: field in OWA instead of the
From: field. Another user who isn't here today so I can verify says her OWA
displays the From: field. How can I change this?

Thx,
Ken

RE: Installing Outlook Web Access

2002-01-31 Thread John Weber

Several items already mentioned, but in addition,
as you come across to the IIS4 server, the IUSR account from the
Exchange box must have rights on the IIS server...as in log on locally.
There's a KB (can't remember the #) that walks through this issue.

Subject: Installing Outlook Web Access

Hello Everyone,
I am having problems installing and configuring Oulook Web access on
my IIS4 server. This is the scenario: I followed a white paper on
installing OWA onto a seperate IIS4 server than my exchange 5.5 server.
I
have IIS4 on a server that I also run Frontpage 98, which is what I am
using for our Intranet site. Frontpage is set on Port 80, and IIS4 is
set
on Port 8080. I have already configured our firewall with a public
address
pointing to the IIS4 root.(I tested it with a test htm page and I can
access it from outside our network). I created a virtual directory in
IIS
called exchange, and point it to where the OWA files reside
(C:\exchsrvr\webdata\usa) Now that OWA is installed, how do I set it up
to
locate my exchange server? Don't you have to put either your exchange
servers name or IP address somewhere on the IIS machine? I even tried to
copy the default HTM file to the IIS wwwroot folder, but it keeps
popping
up the logon.asp, which comes up with errors running script. I don't
know
if they are related. I have searched all over Technet, and all I get is
papers on the theory behind it, not an actual step by step setup guide.

Can anyone please shed some light on this. I appreciate all the help I
can
get on this. I have been racking my brains for three days now. Thank you
in advance for all of your help.

What white paper did you follow?

The program should have installed a virtual directory automatically. Then
you give Log On Locally and things should run smoothly.

We are also looking for that workaround. I've been told
that OWA 2000 will handle it, but haven't seen the proof.
Microsoft has basically said "that would be a new feature, and
we are not adding features to 5.5"

Let me know if you can find something that works around this!

You cannot simply "map" this file because it is a MAPI compound format.

RE: Good Outlook Web Access Troubleshooting guide

2001-08-20 Thread Clark, Steve

I also had
this problem a few weeks back. To fix it I had to edit the contact.inc file and
change the line feanblepasswordmenu=false. After that, I had to go into the
password for the W3Svc ID and reset it. Only then did I stop getting the
password expires in 0 days reminder.

we seem to get this after the patch was
applied.

The Error is displayed after the user is
authenticated "Your Password is about to expire in 0 days.  To Change
your password, go to the Opetions page after login"

I
have tried editing the CONSTANT.INC file as per some support documents,
however that didn't help.

I did nothing
special.  I set up OWA following the MS white papers and articles.  I
will have to leave it to some one with more technical knowledge of OWA to
explain how it works.  William did mention Directory services pointing OWA
to the correct server.

As
long as you have good RPC connectivity between all exchange servers that your
OWA server needs access to, then a single OWA server can serve all exchange
servers within an organisation.

We use OWA to access mailboxes on
servers in multiple sites connected by 256k frame relay.  Same Org
different Sites, Exchange 5.5 OWA on IIS5 server.

No problems.
