[FairfieldLife] Re: 8 Million Palestine Reugees do not exist....?

2005-08-10 Thread Cliff
You mis-read my post. I was referring to the original invasion
by Joshua back around 1400 BC.

As you point out, the more recent "invasion" is far more complicated,
although better weapons and strategy also play a considerable
role in who wins the ongoing disputes.

Of course weapons matter. Like it or not, technology and its
spin-off in weaponry very much determines who lives well,
who lives poorly and who dies in today's world, as it has for
thousands of years.

[FairfieldLife] 'Jagger Gets Brave/ Slams Pres. Bush..'

2005-08-10 Thread Robert Gimbel

Jagger mauls Bush (Tuesday August 09, 2005 10:14 AM) The Rolling Stones accuse President George W Bush of being "full of sh*t" on their new album, it has emerged."Sweet Neo Con", one of the tracks on the band's forthcoming LP "A Bigger Bang", is known to be fiercely anti-Bush.However, the full force of the lyrics and Mick Jagger's disdain for the American leader has now been confirmed, with The Stones singer revealing the lyrics in a new interview. An extract from "Sweet Neo Con" features the following lines: "You call yourself a Christian, I call you a hypocrite/You call yourself a patriot, well I think you're full of sh*t." Speaking to Newsweek, Jagger explained the background to the track. "It is direct. Keith said (adopting Richards' voice), 'It's not really
metaphorical.' "I think he's a bit worried because he lives in the U.S. But I don't," commented Sir Mick."A Bigger Bang" is released on September 5 and is preceded by the single, "Streets Of Love" on August 22. The band begin their forthcoming world tour in Boston on August 21.

Well Sephardim are *Spanish* Jews. Since the diaspora in Spain occurred
in 1492, I would bet many of these are from that dispersion, esp. since
many then found refuge in Italy, Sicily and Turkey.

Well, /akSare/ is the locative singular form of the noun /akSara(m)/
Here are some meanings of this adjective/noun:

1 akSara mfn. imperishable ; unalterable ; m. a sword L. ; S3iva L. ;
Vishn2u L. ; (%{A}) f. see %{a4kSarA} below ; (%{am}) n. a syllable ;
the syllable %{om} Mn. ; a letter [m. Ra1matUp.] ; a vowel ; a
sound ; a word ; N. of Brahma ; final beatitude religious austerity ,
sacrifice L. ; water RV. i , 34 , 4 and i , 164 , 42 [3,3] ;
Achyranthes Aspera.

Now, /akSaram/ is prolly first of all a negative(?) adjective:
'un-alterable', 'im-perishable'. The syntactical structure
formed by the first words seems to be slightly interesting:
if 'akSare' is considered an adjective, it seems to act as an
attribute to 'vyoman'.

(at·trib·ute

—n.
7. Gram. a word or phrase that is syntactically subordinate to
another and serves to limit, identify, particularize, describe, or
supplement the meaning of the form with which it is in construction.
In the red house, red is an attribute of house.)

OTOH, if it is considered a noun, it might perchance be called an
apposition (for 'parame vyoman') or then again, perhaps not.

(ap·po·si·tion (apÅÃ zishÆÃn), n.

3. Gram. a syntactic relation between expressions, usually
consecutive, that have the same function and the same relation to
other elements in the sentence, the second expression identifying or
supplementing the first. In Washington, our first president, the
phrase our first president is in apposition with Washington.)

It seems to us "most" translators treat 'akSare' as a noun, in which
case the primary meaning of 'Rco akSare' could be 'Rk´s (exist) in
akSara'. Butt... it seems to be possible to treat 'akSara' also as
a "genuine" (tatpuruSa-type?) compound noun, in which case 'akSara'
could be thought to mean 'kSara of (the sound) ´a´'. In this case
perhaps some other verb would be suitable, instead of 'exist'... :0

It also means the "kSara of "a"--the collapse of primordial fullness
symbolized by the sound "a". It is also alluding to all that emerges
from "a"--i.e. the entire sequence of sounds which make up creation.
Compare with "akula". akSara is a technical term in Samkhya.

[FairfieldLife] TM and Christianity: PBS feature

2005-08-10 Thread kjdruhl
Dear friends,

I apologize for the long delay in responding to your postings about
the PBS feature. Where to start? I don't want this to be a
theological discussion. What we are talking about is grounded in
experience and relationship; it is my experience of relationship
with Christ. Still, that experience has been based on my
understanding of who Christ is, who I am and what the nature of our
relationship can be.

So what about TM would prevent me from accepting Jesus as my one and
only Savior? Two things: For one the teaching that my spiritual
situation is one of ignorance, not of sin. There is no concept of a
savior or of salvation in the Vedic teachings, because there is no
concept of sin, nothing one needs to be saved from. There is a place
for a teacher in this, but no place for a Savior.

Jesus Christ declared Himself to be the Savior and eternal Judge of
the world. He declared that there was no way to God except Him, that
He was the eternal I AM, Jehovah. So, He is either God, as He said
and as many witnesses testified, or He was insane, or He was Satan.
If what He said was not true, He was either out of His mind (and
this is what the religious Jews said), or He knowingly led millions
and millions of people into spiritual deception, a satanic
undertaking. No founder of any religion that I am aware of ever made
the claims that He made, neither did any perform the miracles that
He did, neither did any extend healing and forgiveness freely to
everyone who asked for it.

What then did Christ save me from, what was my sin? I could come up
with many instances of sinful behavior in my life, and would still
miss the point. My sin is my state of separation from God, my
spiritual pride and self-centeredness, my attempt to usurp the place
of God and exalt myself to be the ruler. Does not that sound
familiar, to those of us who have been promised to become the
masters of natural law? And is not this the core of Satan's lie to
man, that he can become like God?

So, what evidence is there for one side or the other? I must confess
that I cannot find much if any empirical evidence for the divine and
universal nature of unredeemed man, but overwhelming evidence for
his evil nature. And I can also report that I am seeing in myself
and others the great cleansing and healing power of Christ, as I am
yielding myself to His Lordship over my live. An intimately personal
working of Christ in me, an ongoing transformation in my heart that
only God can do.

This then brings us to the second point of separation: the spiritual
practice. The Christian spiritual practice is a matter of the will:
the will to submit to the Lordship of Christ and His working in me.
This is an ongoing commitment that I need to renew daily in freedom,
as my relationship with Christ expands and as His nature overtakes
more and more of my mind, will and emotions. So, no technique is
required. Rather, techniques have to be excluded as being a means to
assert self-rule over the rule of Christ.

The Christian "techniques" of quiet prayer, that are often
mentioned, are not techniques at all, but are modes of communion
with Christ. It matters with whom you commune and in what spirit,
not what you say and how often.

To answer sparaig's question: No, TM doesn't prevent God from making
a connection. God is making connections all the time, to every human
being. But it does prevent the individual from receiving the
fullness of it. God respects your free will, and He never imposes
Himself on you. The choice is yours, communion with your Savior and
Lord, or assertion of self.

So much for now.

Sincerely

Kai

And is it therefore your position that unless a human being accepts
Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior that he/she will, after
death, rot in hell for all eternity?

[FairfieldLife] Re: TM and Christianity: PBS feature

2005-08-10 Thread feste37
I wish the Christians would stop saying that their way is better than
anyone
else's. It gets very boring, and it is untrue. All people can really
say about the
spiritual path they adopt is, "It works for me," and I wish they
would leave it at
that.

The Americans sat back and so did the British. We
had cracked the Germans' code at Bletchley Park with
Alan Turing's Enigma machine, and knew about their
extermination programme. We could not find a way to
act without allowing the Germans to deduce that the
code was cracked.

Not just "a better way," but "the only way."

Trouble is, "the only way" is an integral part
of the path; it's "what works" for them. Take
that away, and it's no longer Christianity.

(Whether it's what Jesus actually taught is
another question entirely.)

And unlikely as it may seem to some of us that
it's "the only way," we don't *know* for sure
whether it's true or not.

That Mick, always strutting the obvious. :-)

Really, good for Mick. Given the respective
levels of personal power involved, I suspect
that a showdown between Mick and Dubya would
turn out pretty much like the confrontation
between Turner and Chas in "Performance."

There is much about Mr. Jagger to be apprec-
iated, in the Tomwise sense of the word. He's
62, he looks better physically than he's looked
for much of his life, and he's still got the
energy to rock 'n roll. There are far less cool
ways to pass an incarnation.

[FairfieldLife] House for Rent in Beautifull Colorado

2005-08-10 Thread Mark
Greetings from beautifull Fort Collins, Colorado where the sun shines
300 days a year and the winters are mild. Fort Collins sits nestled
against the scenic Rocky foothills only a few minutes away by car
where you will find rivers, lakes, and forests.

I recently bought a house and have to leave my rental by the end of
August. The rental is -- a nice three bedroom, two bath, two car
garage, fully equipted kitchen, large entertainment room, big back
yard--house that I'm willing to work out any reasonable rent you want
to pay. (I'll make up the difference if it's below what I pay).

This is an ideal home for those coming out to Colorado and want to
check it out. We did and have decided that it's the best place we've
found yet. So much so, that in four weeks, we've already bought a
home.

Let me know at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Mark

Although, of course, what TMers say is *about* their
path, whereas what the Christians say *is* their path.

But you knew that.

[FairfieldLife] Bouncing

2005-08-10 Thread anonymousff
I just noticed that 219 of FFL's 963 members are bouncing. I don't
think that refers to the dome numbers. Thats over 20%. And only is
applicable to those who receive emails. Which is a minority, maybe
20-30%. So 65-99% of email opters are "air" -- no longer existing
accounts. I wonder if the same % is extrapable to archive readers. It
would imply that only a very small % of the 963 members actually read
any posts.

[FairfieldLife] Baseball Quotes

2005-08-10 Thread Jeff Fischer
The secret of managing is to keep the guys who hate you away from the
guys who are undecided.

The trouble is not that players have sex the night before a game.
It's that they stay out all night looking for it.

-Casey Stengel (Rick - Any confirming rumors?)

I never questioned the integrity of an umpire. Their eyesight, yes.

-Leo Durocher (FFL?)

It was Brooklyn against the world. They were not only complete
fanatics, but they knew baseball like the fans of no other city. It
was exciting to play there. It was a treat. I walked into that
crummy, flyblown park as Brooklyn manager for nine years, and every
time I entered, my pulse quickened and my spirits soared.

-Leo Durocher (As a Brooklyn Dodger fan, I love this one)

"I think there are only three things America will be known for
2,000 years from now when they study this civilization: the
Constitution, jazz music, and baseball."

-Gerald Early

When I was a small boy growing up in Kansas, a friend of mine and I
went fishing and as we sat there in the warmth of a summer afternoon
on a riverbank we talked about what we wanted to do when we grew up.
I told him that I wanted to be a real major-league baseball player, a
genuine professional like Honus Wagner. My friend said that he'd like
to be President of the United States. Neither of us got our wish.

-Dwight D Eisenhower (Better had he gotten his wish?)

  Sweat plus sacrifice equals success.

-Charlie Finley

  "Fans don't boo nobodies."

-Reggie Jackson (Scientologists hope?)

Baseball is a lot like life. The line drives are caught, the
squibbles go for base hits. It's an unfair game.

-Rod Kanehl (I can relate)

Concentration is the ability to think about absolutely nothing when
it is absolutely necessary.

-Ray Knight (A new technique?)

"All the fat guys watch me and say to their wives, 'See, there's a
fat guy doing okay. Bring me another beer.'"

defeat."

-Satchel Paige (Butch & Sundance?)

"Just take the ball and throw it where you want to. Throw strikes.
Home plate don't move."

Well, it's no longer a simplistic and absolutist brand of
Christianity that demands all shades of gray be dumbed down to black
and white. However, not all denominations of Christianity make such
demands. Some Christians can actually live with shades of gray and
uncertainty and have no need to soothe themselves with a false
certainty based on others being wrong.

Good points all. Perhaps we will see a decent replacement, in every
sense of the word...Can you imagine that? A President to be proud of.
Boggles the imagination.

Excellent distinction. And many Christians believe that the only way
to become one with God is to die physically. yow!

Of course the main shortcoming with TM's teachings is that you can
wallow in the seven states of conciousness forever without gaining
enlightenment.

I don't know if that is an actual shortcoming, or just an example of
the expression, 'you can lead a TMer to Brahman, but you can't make
him drink'.

In other words, after Maherishi provides us the tools for experiencing
the other 4 states of conciousness (tc, cc, gc, uc), how would he then
tell us to go beyond them, to all inclusive Brahman? Any ideas anyone?

[FairfieldLife] Re: TM and Christianity: PBS feature

2005-08-10 Thread Robert Gimbel
--Jesus never said these things.
His message is simply to radiate love and forgive.
What happened to his teaching was that it was taken and used for
personal religious and political power.
When the Romans decided to make it a state religion, they used a
paradigm which they were familiar with, and that is to make a person
into a God.
This was what Caesar believed he was, a god, and wanted to be
worshiped as God.
The main antaganism between the Jews and the followers of Jesus, and
the Romans was that the Romans wanted everyone to recognise the
Caesar of Rome, to be God, and they demonstated the 'power' of Rome
and the power of Caesar, through intimidation and terror.
Think of the mind of the Roman who would come up with the concept of
crucifixion.
What kind of mind thinks something like this up?
Think of seeing thousands of your friends, hanging on wooden stakes,
rotting in the sun, for what?
To demonstrate the 'power of Rome.
The most vulgar thing I can think of, is what people have done with
Jesus' teaching, using his simple message, and crucifying him, over
and over again.

I think it's more than just "boring"...I think it's the epitome of
the very evil that they are trying to convince us we are on the side
of for not accepting JC.

Can you imagine the Son of God condemning 80% of humanity to burn in
hell for all eternity because they don't ascribe to the perverted
and twisted interpretation of a part of the Bible that was never
meant to be used as a recruiting marketing ploy?

Even if he said the actual quote in question, "I am the way" is an
experience of consciousness that is to be read in the Bible to
VERIFY that experience; it is NOT an instruction of the path to that
experience.

I wonder how many readers on this forum are aware of your reference
to "Performance" which I saw about 5 times when it came out when I
was about 15 years old. A pretty groovy movie, but as a 15 year-old
I went back again and again for the bath tub scenes in which Mick
suds up with the incredibly beautiful Anita Pallenberg (who later
married and had children with Keith Richards) and another lady.

The co-director of the movie (it was his first) was Nicolas Roeg
whom I did not appreciate at the time but who has since directed one
of my all-time favourite movies: "Bad Timing (A sensual obsession)"
starring Art Garfunkel, Theresa Russell (who Roeg married), and
Harvey Keitel. Just an incredible movie that I am constantly trying
to get a DVD copy of but they haven't released it yet in a format
compatible for US DVD's. I once sent away for a video copy on ebay
that was of very poor quality because it was a bootleg and I have
never bothered to see it in full because it hurts too much seeing a
version where the quality is so bad.

Roeg made three movies where he made had a Rock star in the starring
role: David Bowie ("Man who fell to Earth"), Art Garfunkel ("Bad
Timing"), and Jagger ("Performance")...kinda like that nutty but fun
director Ken Russel who made several movies in the '70s with Rock
Stars.

[FairfieldLife] Re: 'Jagger Gets Brave/ Slams Pres. Bush..'

2005-08-10 Thread Robert Gimbel
-Mick seems to be the ultimate rock star, and has no shame about
anything, really,
He has claimed to be the most bedded person in the world, having
slept with over a thousand women.
It would be nice if we all could be so, guilt-free!

[FairfieldLife] Re: The Lung Cancer list

2005-08-10 Thread Robert Gimbel
---I had heard that Laura was a pot-head; I'm not sure whether booze
or cocaine was W's drug of choice.
What is more dangerous, is what they call in AA a dry drunk.
A dry drunk is someone who quits drinking on their own, without
dealing with the underlying issues that caused the addiction.
A dry drunk can be more dangerous, actually, angry and vengeful.
Whether or not he still drinks, I don't know;
I have heard a few months ago, that he is taking some strong anti-
depressents, and I have noticed some facial tics that would suggest
this, as this is a side-effect of some of those medications.
He has an addiction to exercise now, which is good.
But more and more, his karma is closing in on him, from all sides.
I have heard that the Rove leak stuff, which is under investigation
now, could really nail the whole corrupt administration.

I don't mind TMers -- or Christians for that matter! -- saying their
way is the BEST way...what I do mind is for either group saying their
way is the ONLY way.

In 32 years of doing TM and being around the TMO I have never ONCE
heard ONE person every claim that.

And what's wrong with thinking that the spiritual technique one does
is the best for him or herself? Hey, if it wasn't what I felt was the
best I wouldn't waste my time doing it!

[FairfieldLife] Re: TM and Christianity: PBS feature

2005-08-10 Thread Robert Gimbel
--- I have read many books on the matter.
Crucifixion was a Roman method of execution, and thousands were
executed in that matter; we have all heard the stories of the vicious
nature of the Romans...
When the Romans adopted Jesus' teachings, they attempted to Romanize
it, and take all Jewishness out.
After all, the Romans hated the Jews, and felt superior to them.
So, why is it so hard to believe, that such a people would not corrupt
and pervert his teachings for thier own purposes.
You must have heard the stories, of the inquisition, and the witch
trials, in Germany, and other parts of Europe, when anyone could
accuse anyone else, of being a witch; and subject them to torture and
burning alive in public. In the name of religion, more people have
been killed. What in God's name does any of this have to do with the
person who Jesus was?
So, this dosen't sound intuitive correct to you, then I could offer no
proof, as old themes die hard, and it is impossible to teach
something, when one does not care to learn.

I heard that Laura is a chain-smoker with a real addictive problem.

I would assume that George, being a born-again true-believer, has
been a teetotaler since accepting JC. Isn't that the profile of the
typical born-again?

Yeah, I liked Clinton a lot. His dilly-dallying with a lot of women
really hurt his image though, and didn't do much for setting a good
moral tone for the country. Maybe I'm just sensitive with a teenage

Yes, I have heard that; of Bush being a non-recovered dry drunk.

so that proves it I guess. Lots of books surely give you the
definative view as to what Jesus actually said 2000 years ago speaking
aramaic -- a languange I presume you do not speak.

So let me see if I got this. Romans killed people with crucifixes and
hated jews. They romanized things. And thus you know what jesus
actually said. Ok, that makes sense, i'm following you so far.

Not so hard. But how in heavens name does that make your
interpretation of what Jesus said correct?

been killed. What in God's name does any of this have to do with the
person who Jesus was?

Um not much. But what in God's name does any of this have to do with
the making you knowledgable about what Jesus actually said?

Sounds like arguments any number of groups use. These could just as
well be the words of a creationist, and pseudo neo-advaitist or a
white-arayan. Such words all play on the insecurites of naive people.

Personally, I think Jesus plagerized the Beatles.

[FairfieldLife] Re: 'Jagger Gets Brave/ Slams Pres. Bush..'

2005-08-10 Thread shempmcgurk
Ooh, Jagger is such a courageous opinion-maker putting himself out
there and risking the wrath of the powers that be. Ooh, what a
trailblazer.

It should be noted that the last time Jagger and the Rolling Stones
ever tried to do something controversial was back in the '70s when
they wrote and recorded the song "Claudine" about Andy Williams' ex-
wife Claudine Longet who murdered her lover, ski Champion Spider
Sabish, in 1976 and served only 30 days in an Aspen, Colorado jail.
Those brave souls, the Rolling Stones, were so fearful of being sued
by Longet, that they never released the song and it is only
available as a bootleg.

At least Bob Dylan recorded and released "Hurricane" in support of
Rubin "Hurricane" Carter (who, of course, turned out to be so
obviously guilty as hell).

Boy, that Mick is really brave, isn't he?

Yea, I didn't want to give the impression that ALL neo-adviatists were
phonies. So I threw in the "pseudo". Actually I think
"quasi-reformationist pseudo neo-advaitist plagerists" is a better
term to capture the thought I was getting at.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: TM and Christianity: PBS feature

2005-08-10 Thread Llundrub

I think it's more than just "boring"...I think it's the epitome of
the very evil that they are trying to convince us we are on the side of
for not accepting JC.Can you imagine the Son of God condemning 80% of
humanity to burn in hell for all eternity because they don't ascribe to the
perverted and twisted interpretation of a part of the Bible that was never
meant to be used as a recruiting marketing ploy?I just never understood how people could rely upon a thought
or a concatenation of thoughts as a reality.

It seemed to me that the only sound basis for any
spiritual discovery had to be ones basic awareness, and since that never changes
anything else just had to be relative to that.

If Christians cannot cope with that experience then I
cannot cope with their snobbish insistence upon their concatenated conceits.

Especially if they think that their devil has spawned
rock and roll.  If you cannot accept rock and roll then I cannot accept
your Jesus, because I sure as fuck am not listening to harp music in your vague
cloud 9.

It's like I always said to my wife. "Where is the
soul?"  She is smart and said, "Somewhere in here."  Describing a
square area in the chest. I said, "OK, but what is it's form, what doesn it look
like?"  She would say, "I don't know."  I'm like, "Well, don't they
teach what the soul is, where it is, what it looks like, etc... in Catholic
school?"  She said, "Probably, but I forget."

My point is that if you don't know what your soul is,
what it looks like, what it's nature then what the fuck are you fightin for, and
who are you fighting?  You might be fighting your very own soul.  But
you won't know it.  Maybe the evil clutches of Satan you feel are the wings
of your soul flapping.  How will you ever know if you don't have the faith
and guts to find out.  If you run in fear the first time you feel the
breath of eternity then you're doomed.  In my book.

So go hold onto your McDonald's hamburger. It's
about as close to your own soul as most Christians will ever get. Fear the
laughter, fear the sex, fear the drugs, fear all of God's creations, run from
the Sharks.  Don't go into the water.

OK, gotta wash the dishes.

"Take all Jewishness out" is quite the understatement, as
Christianity is the very antithesis of Judaism. From the Jewish
perspective, Christianity is idolatrous worship of a false Messiah.

Personally, I find Jewish counter-missionary commentary to be a real
eye-opener:

Mick suds up with the incredibly beautiful Anita Pallenberg (who later
married and had children with Keith Richards) and another lady. The
co-director of the movie (it was his first) was Nicolas Roeg whom I did not
appreciate at the time but who has since directed one of my all-time
favourite movies: "Bad Timing (A sensual obsession)" starring Art Garfunkel,
Theresa Russell (who Roeg married), and Harvey Keitel.  Just an
incredible movie that I am constantly trying to get a DVD copy of but they
haven't released it yet in a format compatible for US DVD's.  I once
sent away for a video copy on ebay that was of very poor quality because it
was a bootleg and I have never bothered to see it in full because it hurts
too much seeing a version where the quality is so bad.Roeg made
three movies where he made had a Rock star in the starring role: David Bowie
("Man who fell to Earth"), Art Garfunkel ("Bad Timing"), and Jagger
("Performance")...kinda like that nutty but fun director Ken Russel who made
several movies in the '70s with Rock Stars.> >

What's with the guilt. I have turned
down a couple gorgeous chicks because they were a bit too slutty for me.
Regrets, yes, later, guilt, no, never. If I fucked them now that I'm married

all eternity. People look elsewhere for the Lords of Karma. Look no further than

I'm sure that's true, but if they don't believe Christ
is the *only* way to be reconciled with God, they're
not adhering to orthodox Christian doctrine.

2005-08-10 Thread Robert Gimbel
---Hey, In those days, before computers, and Xerox machines,
everything was kind of dependent on the availability of wood, and
who was making the crosses.
Depending on the needs, of how many people were lined up to get
nailed, sometimes any old thing would do. But in general, crosses
were the mode.

Well, no, you can never become one with God, in
Christian belief. Jesus was the one and only who
ever was one with God, but he was God to begin with.

Five, six, and seven *are* enlightenment, according
to MMY.

In my understanding, he says GC and UC, and presumably
BC as well--and whatever there is after BC--develop
naturally once you've reached CC.

20 percent is an improvement. The first time I took a
