He also got 250cc subq fluids..today and 2 different antibiotic injections

Kerry, did you ever try the Immuno-Regulin? Smoky on this list had really
good luck with it getting rid of fevers, and when my Lucy could not throw a bad

URI a couple months ago just two shots of it did it for her. And if he has
a fever, he likely has a URI. That was Lucy's only symptom besides being
lethargic and not eating. Her nose bubbled a few times, but not so that I
even
would have noticed if not for the fever and loss of appetite and limpness.

I think I remember that you did not want to try I-R for some reason? I am
not sure why, at this point. It has been so incredibly helpful in these
situations for me and others. I don't think you have anything at all to lose
in
trying it.

Prayers,
Michelle

Sending happy thoughts and well wishes to Bandy... his potassium levels were
not low either, right? What about a baby aspirin, just in case it's blood
clot related? Just trying to think of anything that can lead to rear leg

And, of course, you can always syringe feed if he's being stubborn.

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for your prayers. We just got back from the vet again..His
temp was 105.5 Sat. So they called the vet and we gave him 2cc of dex along
with another polyflex and baytril injection..He got some metronidazole as he
has a loose stool...I never could get him to eat on Fri so I did force some a/d
with a syringe down him..He seems to hurt all over again. He also got another
250cc subq fluids..
He did sit up for the ride home, but wasn't interested in anything when we
got home really..He did nibble on a few pieces for dry food and a couple of
bits of can. I am hoping all the dex will kick in really soon to get the temp
down and he will eat..
Nina, where did you buy the oli-vet, natural antibiotic? I haven't had time
to check the 2 places I use for supps, but would appreciate the info.
Michelle, No we haven't done the IR, but am considering it Monday if the
temp will go down..did it make Lucy have a rise in temp? I know it can so we
would really need Bandy's temp to be down for it..I agree with you...I should
try it...Also, what dosage? Do you think
.25cc would be ok first time then repeat how often? I just haven't had time
to go look back to see what you told me the last time..So if you could let me
know again, I would really appreciate it.. Do you give it 3 or 4 times with a
few days in between?
  Also, any other thoughts...
  We will keep you posted..

Re: Prayers needed for Bandy

I do NOT think you need the temp to go down in order to give the I-R. No,
Lucy did not have a temp spike at all from it, nor did Patches, nor did anyone
I
know other than my Ginger. But I also gave Ginger 1 ml, which is a very high
dose. I gave Lucy only .25 ml, which is actually the dose recommended by the
company (Dr. Lees recommends 1 ml in his article) and it helped with no side
effects. Besides, the spike in temp is very temporary-- it lasted maybe a
half hour at most with Ginger. she already had a pretty high temp when I gave
it to her, like maybe 104, and it spiked to 106.5 or something, but then went
down below what it started at. And, again, I gave her a very high dose of
it.

I really, really, really think you should do the I-R as soon as possible.
Start with the .25 ml dose and see how he does. If you are nervous about a temp

spike, ask the vet if you can hang out there with him for a half hour after
the shot to make sure he is ok. But seriously, I don't think anyone on this
list experienced a temp spike with it, only Ginger. It is listed as a possible
side effect, a temporary temp spike, but is not common. And fever seems to
be the thing I-R is best at treating, actually.

oh, other thing you asked-- space between dosing. It says to do every 3-4
days for a while, i think. I have never given more than 2 shots. With Patches
she only needed one, with Ginger I did 2 shots 3 days apart, and with Lucy I
did 2 shots one week apart.

please don't be hesitant about I-R. It really has been an extremely helpful
drug to many cats on this list, and I think Ginger is the only one who had
any reaction to it, and the reaction was quite temporary and harmless. If she
were still alive and had trouble with a fever or URI I would not hesitate to
give it to her again, in spite of her reaction. I would just give her a
smaller dose.

The only med problem my Tucson has had is a couple of episodes of low white
blood count. Both times, vet gave her a series of immuno-regulin shots and
count went right back up. Both times, I knew something was up with her
because she wouldn't eat-she's18 lbs so eating is a big thing for her!!!

Hi everyone,

My Bandy has been very sick this week..First, we are still fighting the
ringworm, but it is our least worry for now..He starting getting limp in one
rear leg as he did back in the summer..So I took him in on Tues. and he
received basically same treatment as in the summer...He got some dex,
adequan, B vit inj, and torbutrol for pain..His temp was 103.5 which is the
highest it has been since Aug..he did seem to respond as he came home, ate
ok and drank...climbed up on his tower and would purr and talk to me..Then
on Fri. or really late Thurs night, he wouldn't eat at all or move about
much..So I took him back to the doctor Fri afternoon...His temp was still
around 103 which could explain the bad appetite, but I didn't know what else
to do and still don't...

So the vet tech called the Doctor since she is off on Fri..we ran a complete
blood chem and profile and thyroid...He hasn't had all that since June so we
were due...It didn't help us much either...Surprising enough his PCV was
37.5 which is great...the WBC was low normal...some other blood values grans
and monocytes were off which I don't know what all that means..his platlets
were very low...Anyone know anything about that

I'm really scared for him now...He doesn't seem to have URI or UTI and no
mouth ulcers..no stomach trouble either..He did have a loose stool couple of
times the other day. Probably from all the meds on Tues..

I can't get him to eat...I have tried everything...He will eat a few bites
at a time and won't drink any broth either..I don't know what else to
try...Please let me know what you all think.

He also got 250cc subq fluids..today and 2 different antibiotic injections
along with 5mg pred which we are going on for a week..and if he won't eat I
am to up it to 10mg..also oxazepam for appetite stimulant...

Please keep him in your prayers..

I hope all your kitties are doing well...we send head butts to all..

Hi everyone,
Well, so far so good...I went shopping with some friends after I got Bandy
home from the vet on Sat..as that is hard for me to do when he is so sick, but
I thoughthe has had all the meds he can get for the day along with subq
fluids..I thought it might be best that he rest and I leave him alone so he can
do that..When I returned 12 hrs later, he was sitting up in his bed and had
eaten some dry food along with little can food and some grilled chicken liver.
I sat in the floor with him and he talked to me and was purring again..I don't
know what tomorrow will bring, but I am hoping he is on the mend..Along with
him having this leg problem which seems much better, I think he has a mild URI
cause a couple of wks ago, Inky was sneezing and he is in the opposite end of
the house from Bandy, but I was around him and probably spead it to Bandy since
it wouldn't take much for him to come down with anything..Bandy did sneeze a
few times the last few days but has no runny nose
or eyes..I really think there might be something to that..Any opinions about
that??
Thanks Nina and Michelle for the info.. I will check out the oli-vet later
today. And I am going to talk to his vet on Monday about the IR..I am going to
see if she won't give him the .25 dose. Do you know if there are any side
effects with any other meds being given at the same time? He is on adequan for
the inflammation in the leg which is done in the muscle, I think..he will get
it again on Tues and for 3 more wks..Also, what about the interferon along with
the IR..? That is one thing he gets daily and has since July, 2005.
Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers..Ours are with you all, too.

interferon with I-R is ok. I have not heard or read about any interactions
between I-R and anything else, but can not know for sure.

So glad he is feeling better. I do think it's a URI. Lucy just had fever,
lethargy, and inappetance, sneezed a couple of times and I saw her nose bubble
once or twice, but no runny nose or eyes or anything. I think Bandy has a
similar, if not the same, thing.

Hi everyone,
My Bandy has been very sick this week..First, we are still fighting the
ringworm, but it is our least worry for now..He starting getting limp in one
rear leg as he did back in the summer..So I took him in on Tues. and he
received basically same treatment as in the summer...He got some dex, adequan,
B vit inj, and torbutrol for pain..His temp was 103.5 which is the highest it
has been since Aug..he did seem to respond as he came home, ate ok and
drank...climbed up on his tower and would purr and talk to me..Then on Fri. or
really late Thurs night, he wouldn't eat at all or move about much..So I took
him back to the doctor Fri afternoon...His temp was still around 103 which
could explain the bad appetite, but I didn't know what else to do and still
don't...
So the vet tech called the Doctor since she is off on Fri..we ran a complete
blood chem and profile and thyroid...He hasn't had all that since June so we
were due...It didn't help us much either...Surprising enough his PCV was 37.5
which is great...the WBC was low normal...some other blood values grans and
monocytes were off which I don't know what all that means..his platlets were
very low...Anyone know anything about that
I'm really scared for him now...He doesn't seem to have URI or UTI and no
mouth ulcers..no stomach trouble either..He did have a loose stool couple of
times the other day. Probably from all the meds on Tues..
I can't get him to eat...I have tried everything...He will eat a few bites at
a time and won't drink any broth either..I don't know what else to
try...Please let me know what you all think.
He also got 250cc subq fluids..today and 2 different antibiotic injections
along with 5mg pred which we are going on for a week..and if he won't eat I am
to up it to 10mg..also oxazepam for appetite stimulant...
Please keep him in your prayers..
I hope all your kitties are doing well...we send head butts to all..

down as I can't check it at home right now due to some ear inflammation going

go back on Fri since the vet will be closed until Tues. after that..He will be

I had to take Bandy back to the vet today. His temp was already back up to
103.8. Also, he has runny stool now worse than before..He has never had
this...So she changed his meds again and didn't want to give another dex inj so
I suggested depo-medrol...so we will see what that does..Anyway, she called his
internal med spec and she is out till Tues but we could have gotten into
another doctor on Fri, but I can't go as it is about 8 hrs up and back..so I
hope I am doing the right thing by waiting for his regular specialist. She
added doxycycline to his meds along with metronidazole..He got some more fluids
since we were there...I am beginning to think he has a gastro problem now and
really hope it isn't lymphoma..I hope it is just an infection..since all the
blood work was normal maybe it will end up being an intestinal infection...
Anyway, thanks for your continued prayers for my Bandy..

I really do not see what you can do at this point other than try the I-R.
Nothing else seems to be working well for him, and I-R has helped all the
other cats on this list who have had similar symptoms. I know I am at risk of
sounding like a broken record at this point, and I am feeling like one, so I

I lied-- one more email. If your vet is hesitant to use I-R with steroids,
have him call the vet in Ohio, Dr. Mike Lees, who wrote the article. The name
of his hospital is, I think, on the article (on _www.felineleukemia.org_
(http://www.felineleukemia.org) ) or some contact info of some sort, since
that is
how I found him when I called him. He was very nice and willing to talk and

ok, now I really won't write any more on this.

Hi Cindy

Do you use the immuno-regulin when needed or are you on a maintenance dose
for Smokey? My cats have finished their preliminary protocol. The vet plans
a monthly dosage. In the meantime Junior got sick, now Tiny seems to have
the URI. Tiny's cold is not as bad. He does seem a bit pale(his noses is not
as pink). I may have him tested or checked for anemia when he goes back on
the 5th of January.

Kelly I also want to talk to my vet about the alferon, but am unclear how
she needs to write the prescription.

Thanks for any help here. I am crossing my fingers that I do not have to
take Tiny to the vet before his scheduled visit. He seems to be holding his
own.

RE: Prayers needed for Bandy

2006-12-22 Thread Sally
Hi Cindy

They were due for IR at there last visit, but my appointment was for the
vaccinations, and the vet did not want to do both. Tiny was vaccinated.
Junior had the uveitis and URI so he was not vaccinated. I am thinking he
should have gotten the IR then as it was due, but this was a different vet.
Junior got an antibiotic for the URI but nothing for his eye, until I kept
bugging the vets office for something. The eye is better and the URI cleared
up.

Tiny now has the URI now but much less severe. I don't think he would have
caught it except the two are kept together. The next shot is due 1/5/07. I
think Tiny's immune system works better than Juniors.

I am grateful to have both here with me at the holidays. I miss Pumpkin and
Lionel. I only had them a short time.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info..I don't know what we are going to do now..I guess hope
all goes well until we go to Dallas on Tues very early.. No vet will be
available here so I have to do my best with what I have at home now..until we
get there on Tues..I took BAndy today as I thought she was going to check him
again, but ended up being for just more fluids..he has really big pouches on
both sides...is that ok...he seems miserable from it..But I think that is what
they wanted to do as I can't give them at home as I don't really have anyone to
help me and I can't hold him alone...
He did eat whole can of I/d yesterday and some grilled chicken breast...He
won't eat the raw food like Inky gets for IBD...Well, Inky eats mostly grilled
chicken now but will eat raw turkey..
Bandy had about 5 very waterly stools yesterday and thru the night about 5 to
6 hours apart..He went looking for his food bowls last night too since I had
taken them all out of his room he was searching the floor...I really hate not
to feed him what he wants...but with this diarrhea, I don't know what else to
do but keep him on raw food and or i/d...I have sensitive stomach, too, but
don't know if that is ok...
I will mention to specialist on tues about IR...
Any other help would be appreciated
Have any of you used albon and metronidazole together...I searched the whole
site here yesterday for any help on diarrhea and meds for it...really just all
I could find...I don't think Bandy has IBD, I really hope it is just a bad
infection..Also, she has him on doxycycline.
I guess this is about it for now..I am going to call them before they close
to ask again about giving him albon, too and dex if he starts a fever over the
next 3 days...It is going to be a long next few days until Tues. morning...then
3 1/2 hr drive up there...

Hi guys,
Thanks for the info..I don't know what we are going to do now..I
guess hope all goes well until we go to Dallas on Tues very early..
No vet will be available here so I have to do my best with what I
have at home now..until we get there on Tues..I took BAndy today as
I thought she was going to check him again, but ended up being for
just more fluids..he has really big pouches on both sides...is that
ok...he seems miserable from it..But I think that is what they
wanted to do as I can't give them at home as I don't really have
anyone to help me and I can't hold him alone...
He did eat whole can of I/d yesterday and some grilled chicken
breast...He won't eat the raw food like Inky gets for IBD...Well,
Inky eats mostly grilled chicken now but will eat raw turkey..
Bandy had about 5 very waterly stools yesterday and thru the night
about 5 to 6 hours apart..He went looking for his food bowls last
night too since I had taken them all out of his room he was
searching the floor...I really hate not to feed him what he
wants...but with this diarrhea, I don't know what else to do but
keep him on raw food and or i/d...I have sensitive stomach, too, but
don't know if that is ok...

I will mention to specialist on tues about IR...
Any other help would be appreciated
Have any of you used albon and metronidazole together...I searched
the whole site here yesterday for any help on diarrhea and meds for
it...really just all I could find...I don't think Bandy has IBD, I
really hope it is just a bad infection..Also, she has him on doxycycline.
I guess this is about it for now..I am going to call them before
they close to ask again about giving him albon, too and dex if he
starts a fever over the next 3 days...It is going to be a long next
few days until Tues. morning...then 3 1/2 hr drive up there...
Wendy, if you see this...he is going to animal diagnostic clinic in
Plano...same place he went before and same doctor..

the diarrhea might be from all the antibiotics. That happened to Lucy.
Metronidazole helped, but she had to come off the abx.

Probiotics might help.will Bandy eat yogurt with active bacteria? If
not there are a number of inexpensive probiotics you can get. Talk to a
pharmacist because I cannot give you all the names.

I'm disappointed to hear that Bandy won't eat the raw food. Did you try
just dicing up some raw chicken breast and heating it until the edges
are cooked? I don't know what to advice about the albon and flagil.
Isn't albon used for Coccidia/Giardia? Do you suspect he drank
contaminated water? If he were mine, I wouldn't be adding any other med
at this point. He's already being pumped so full of meds. But then I'm
always looking for alternatives to allopathic treatments. You guys are
in my prayers,

Bandy is in the hospital now..He had a very bad night..he threw up once and
still has watery stool...So I took him today even though they are closed, I
caught the vet tech there so she called his doctor..at this point she said he
needed IV fluids which I have to agree...I just don't like him being away..I
can go visit twice a day when techs are there...since the doctor will be out of
town for couple of days...
Anyway, the vet actually came in to put the IV in so I am glad of that and
she called me twice..last time was to let me know that she put some c/d in
there and he went right after it..
I couldn't get him to eat at all since noon on Fri...so she knew I would want
to hear that and it did make me feel better...
We just have to get him feeling better for the trip to Dallas on Tues so we
can find out what is going on here and get on the right track..
He is a fighter and I can see in his eyes, he isn't ready to give up...
He did eat about a tsp of i/d for me this morning before I took him...
Please keep praying for him to feel better..
That is all the Christmas present I need...for my Bandy to be better and back
home..

since he is on steroids now, we can't use it..until he has been off them for at
least 7 days..So I don't know what to do about it now, but wait to see the

Kerry,
There is NO danger to using I-R with steroids. The reason the
instructions for I-R say to go off steroids 7 days beforehand is to ensure the
I-R is
fully effective, since steroids can lower immune response. Lucy was on
steroids when she got I-R, and Mike Lees, the vet from Ohio who wrote the
article on
the website about I-R, said he sometimes uses the two in conjunction. There
is no bad interaction between them. Lucy was on 7.5 mg/day of pred when she
got the I-R, and it only took two .25 ml doses of I-R to kick her URI
completely,. and it was mostly gone after the first dose.

about 1/2 in some water and shot it in him..He took it real well...I did
mention it to them, but they didn't say to much when I took him in today so
when I go visit tonight, I may just take some with me and sneak it in cause he

That works for me. Just don't use real warm water to mix it in. It will kill
the bacteria. Frankly, I don't think you can over-dose on probiotics. At
least that is what my "people" doctors tell me and my personal vets and
alternative vets say re critters.

I would sneak it in or give it openly or whatever it took to get it in my cat.
Frankly, there are just times I don't care what anyone thinks as long as I
believe I am doing what I think is right for my pet.

Good luck and keep me posted.

Re: Prayers needed for Bandy-- diff. between anabolic and corticosteroids

2006-12-21 Thread Lernermichelle

Winstrol is an anabolic steroid, which is used to build muscle mass. I think
the I-R instructions refer to corticosteroids, like prednisone, which reduce
inflammation but also can suppress the immune system. They are different.
