2011 Secret Santa

2011-11-08 Thread brass-ring-farm
This message is from: brass-ring-f...@juno.com

Just want to add my 2 cents worth. I think this is fun! I have been
participating for about 8 years and I have received some very nice Fjord
items. Some people make them themselves and they are very talented. I
have a welcome sign on my porch sporting a Fjord, a lovely tile of a
Fjord cavorting with children, a coo glass block lamp with my own horse
on it, 2 colorful caps with Fjords drawn on them and many other special
items. One year someone went to the trouble of making homemade Fjord
cookies - for the horses. I just want to say it is a very creative group.

I hope I have given as well as I have received; I always enjoy picking
out horsie things. Anyway, it is a very enjoyable part of the holidays
for me.

identify yourself so that you can be thanked or if your gift, for some
reason has not arrived, your giftee will know to expect it. Thanks for your
participation this year. From what I have heard, all who have been SS

Dear SS!
I LOVE my new Fjord tee! The Fjords on it are adorable...especially
the baby! And I love the idea of Fjords Worldwide! It's great that a bunch
of folks from many different countries can be united by a single passion -
in this case, love of our talented and loveable blond horses. Looking at
the shirt also reminds me that, even though it does NOT feel like it right
now, summer WILL be back so I've hung it where I can see it as I layer-up every
morning in my Arctic attire.
Now, let's get serious. WHO ARE YOU?

2010 Secret Santa Assignments Completed

2010-12-01 Thread Cynthia Madden
This message is from: Cynthia Madden cynthia.mad...@gmail.com

I sent out all the assignments today. I do apologize if you get a repeat
assignment.. We did not have as many people as usual and fewer new ones so
you are all getting to know each other taste in Christmas by now. Those who
voluntered for an international assignment were matched as much as possible
to receive an international gift/s in return. I think it only fair. I hope
everyone enjoys doing Secret Santa this year. We had participants from the
US, Canada, England, and Austrailia. Those who are on the receiving end
internationally may expect to see some delay since we got started a little
late this year. Be patient but do let me know if you hve no received
anything by Jan 1 and I will check on things for you.

Merry Christmas!!!

I love Fjordie t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts jewelry, and art of all
kinds. I wear size large in the afore-mentioned shirts. Braveheart and Bogie
love horse treats of any kind and people treats of many kinds (especially
Circus Peanuts...you know - those big, cheap, orange colored, peanut shaped,
banana flavored, marshmallow candies that can be found at TSC and most truck
stops). They also love Rice Krispies Treats but those aren't so cheap!
And yes, I'd take an overseas Fjord lover.

Hi to all SS participants. By now, you should have received your gift/s from
your Secret Santa. If not, please let me know. Due to the lousy weather and
other considerations, if your gift/s have not been mailed, please contact
me. Thanks.

You should have contacted your Secret Santa to thank them and let them know
you received the gift. It is OK to identify yourself when you send your gift
or after the fact. People want to know who was so nice to them!

It appears the 2009 FH-L Secret Santa is another success. See you in 2010's.

Dear S. Santa!
My presents arrived yesterday and I just love them. I was really
hoping for the baseball cap with the new logo! I wore it all yesterday
afternoon
while finishing up my Christmas cards. I would've worn it to the barn this
morning to show Braveheart and Bogie, but it's 8degreesF with 40 MPH winds
outside so maybe I'll do that later. I love the tote too! It would be a
great grooming bag and a pretty good overnighter too. Right now it's hanging
in my den being a Christmas decoration.
Thanks a million!

Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 12:35:04 PM, Valerie wrote:

My secret Santa came through! Thank you Diana for such a great box of
goodies. Sydney will especially like the purple grooming tools!

I'm glad to hear that everything arrived safely. I'd hoped that the
grooming tools would come in handy; those thick Fjord manes and tails
tend to be rather hard on grooming equipment.

How are those neat ornaments done? It looks like photos in color on
 slag glass, very neat.

The fused glass ornaments are made using a special type of printer
paper. I convert photos to black--white, then print them out with a
laser printer (one that has a high percentage of ferrous material in
the toner; mine's a cheap HP LaserJet). Then I trim the photos down
and soak them briefly in water until the layers of the paper begin to
separate. Next, I carefully slide the transparent layer with the photo
on it off of the other layer and onto a piece of fusing glass (one or
more layers) that I've cut to the desired size and shape. The whole
thing then goes in the kiln for fusing, which takes about 8-9 hours in
total, including the controlled cool-down from the peak temperature of
around 1300 degrees Fahrenheit. During the firing process, the paper
and non-ferrous toner components burn away, leaving behind the ferrous
content, which oxides and fuses with the glass to create the
sepia-toned image. It's a neat technique, though it took some trial
error to get it right. My first attempt using a Samsung printer was a
total loss - Samsung toner apparently contains *no* ferrous content
and the photos vanished completely during firing!

The other, non-photo, ornament (or cabochon to use on a necklace; it
can be used for either purpose) is also fused glass, only in that
case, the Fjord head is sheet copper which I hand embossed, using
another photo of my Fjord as the template.

And lots of videos of Fjords and driving to watch! Tomorrow is
supposed to ice and snow and rain here so I think I'll start my
winter tack cleaning and pop one in.

I hope the DVDs make the task pass enjoyably.

The photos of your Fjord in Xmas garb are priceless.

They're both pretty good sports about letting me do silly things to
them. Dawna tolerates it; Donnie loves it because, hey, it's
attention!

And if anyone else is curious about the Xmas Fjord photos, there's a
few of them here:

Secret Santa gifts

This message is from: Starfire Farm starfiref...@usa.net

To Liz from the UK (I'm still trying to decipher your last name!)

Thank you, Secret Santa, for your wonder gifts! The care package of UK
goodies is fantastic. I especially enjoyed perusing the British Horse
magazines and was thrilled to see photos of Fjords in action. Especially
the photo of Mr. West driving his tandem of Fjords. The dish with the
photo of the Fjord hitched to the mail coach is wonderful! The lovely
Redstreake prints arrived also. Thank you so very much!

And...we LOVE the kitty Xmas card! You've gotta see it!...but we're NOT
kissing under his mistletoe either! ;-)

Happy New Year to Liz and to all of our Fjord Friends out there.

An acquaintance of mine used to be a harness maker. One of the things that
she developed was a driving equivalent to the Australian stockman's bridle.
It has two crownpieces---the traditional one, with the usual throatlatch,
plus a second one that sits a little further back and buckles directly around
the throat, rather like a dog collar. One of her customers had a problem with
his percherons rubbing their regular bridles off, when standing around at
events. My friend made this guy a pair of stockman's bridles, and said that
his horses could NOT rub those bridles off (they tried)! So, get yourself a
nylon cow collar (or a couple of heavy nylon dog collars, buckled end to
end, to make a longer collar). Put that on one of your Fjords, snuggly around
his throat, and then put on the grazing muzzle---but tether the crown strap
of the muzzle to the collar, either at the top, or at both sides (about where
the browband would attach, on a bridle). And, let us know the results

Thanks to my Secret Santa Cheryl Goioa for my gift, the fjordy rocking
horse
is in my china cabinet with my fjord horse collection and Kez loves his
new

halter.
During Kezzy trip across country to come home he stayed the night with
Cheryl so she has met my boy.
Kez is doing well it is hard to believe he has such a bad heart when he is
running hard in the snow on these 0 degree mornings (actually this morning
we have a heat wave it is 16 degrees.)
The only thing that has changed is he is a little harder to keep weight on
this winter. He is being kept in light work driving and riding and has my
mini and welsh pony for company.

Secret Santa Thanks : R.Taylor, Straw Hat Stables

I was VERY GOOD this year - the package said, Don't Open Until Christmas,
and I DID NOT OPEN IT!!! (A very rare thing for me!)
My Secret Santas did not include a note
BUT - I got red and green MM's that had Rune and Catherine Lassesen and
Hestehaven printed on them. How cool is that?
I received the most awesome cowboy rope halter and lead rope - in a bright
yellow and blue pattern that even I can't lose in the snow (or mud this
December so far!) The Farrier also sends his Thanks for the sturdy halter now
in use on Thumper.
AND I also got a beautiful pale blue, soft as mink sweatshirt with a Fjord
drawing and Hestehaven lettered in white - that I've had to keep my Mom from
snitching (she's tried TWICE already, and it isn't evem New Year's yet!)
So, to my Secret Santas - Catherine and Rune - Thank you very much for the
wonderful, useful gifts! Sincerely, Rhonda Taylor

Amy,

Thanks so much for the wonderful gifts. Last week I was looking at a
website with those cute little rubber fjords made into ornaments and was
lamenting that I hadn't gotten one for the tree, especially since I have an
Icelandic horse ornament and I didn't want Tyra to feel left out. My tree's
still up so I hung it right in the front.

Tyra will really appreciate the professional Fiskar mane scissors (I won't
mention what I've been using). I've been giving her clicker training
lessons to hold her head still for trimming, so she should be good to go!
Maybe now Tyra won't be embarrassed if I send in photos of her!

Found your gift a delight !

Arrival is firm
On Dec.12-13th to you
Its hard to believe
They would know that its true !

So off with 3 Fjords

If his drill is too fast
They might FLOAT

Well, it does rhyme with FJORD
Believe it or not

The art, although I really do try
Is not mine, but from spirits
Who walked ancient skys

By rocks that are red
And twisted with time
If you look close enough

The stories to see,
Those not damaged by man
Spin tales of the wind
Water, creatures and land.

We'll drive up the ponys
Into hills with red glow
If you come really soon

Hi folks,
The list of SS participants is growing. Sign up now! I am acknowledging
sign-ups this year as I receive them so that we don't have the problem we
did last year with people thinking they were signed up but somehow I didn't
have their names. If you don't receive a return message from me in 2 or 3
days of signing up, please contact me again.

BTW, if you signed up last year but did not follow through with your
gift(s) you will not be allowed to participate this year. This is not a
great problem, but those who did not get their gifts were dissapointed.

Yours in SS elfdom,

Thank You Secret Santa Sue!

2005-01-01 Thread Karen McCarthy
This message is from: Karen McCarthy [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I just recently recieved my  present from Sue Sorger, my secret santa!
Thank you Sue, it was a really wonderful mix of goodies, I especially
like the handmade wooden fjord tree ornament, and of course the ponies
are all drooling over the horse cookies. Your card was beautiful, and I
will treasure it all. (I tried calling you personally to thank you, but
the number listed on the card you enclosed does not work). And speaking
of stuff not working, we now have 10 of white stuff here, and the
power/phone has been on/off for 2 days now. Yesterday, at 6pm New Years
Eve, the power co. guys came to fix the line, just as we drove off to
dinner with friends. Came home  went to bed 'bye 10pm (party poopers!)
Well, maybe we didn't have a party, but the horses did! Appears the power
co. people left Sven's gate open to the street, and he tiptoed past our
house down to the barn, where he whooped it up w/ alot of his kids, then
he apparently opened the gate to the gelding pasture, for more revellers.
Aside from the barn floor showing a few deposits on it, the haystack
was intact, and mlore importantly, no one got bit or kicked. Happy New
Years...as I write this, Sven is out snoozing next to his run in shed,
what a night!

Again thanks Sue for such a cool present, and thanks to you too Cynthia,
for being the Head Elf.

To all on this List, I wish a healthful, peaceful and prosperous New
Near!

Hi All-

There was a bit of a mishap in receiving my gift this year. Evidently the
postal carrier stuck a notice in my gang box (those tiny ones that come with
apartments), did not attempt to redeliver, and did not drop the parcel at the
office which is the usual procedure. I wasn't about to stand in line at the
post
office the days before Christmas, so I waited till after. Fortunately, there
was my parcel. It was worth the wait.

Pat Wilson of Utah had an artist paint my Tommes on a river rock. She used
the memorial photo from my web site. I couldn't wait to see it, and opened the
box in the car in the post office parking lot. I couldn't believe how she
captured his essence, having never met him. It was beyond beautiful I sat there
in
the car and cried till someone wanted my parking place and honked ;-)

Thank you, thank you!

In the future this might not be such a good idea. You should always put a
return address on the gift. You can use a friend's or relative's instead of

To Sher O's Secret Santa - Thanks!

I would just like to thank the mystery Secret Santa for the really nice gift
sent! Sorry - there was no name on the cute fjord christmas card, or label on
the shipping box to give me a hint (very clever! :-) ... so no
idea whom to thank!

The earth tone jar is now my paint brush holder on my work desk. I paint pet
cartoons on tshirts - so these is something I now use everyday.:-)And
my little herd of starving FAT horse buddies smack their lips, sending
along a Happy New Year, for you, too!

Best wishes,
Sher Olson in Colorado

Thank you Secret Santa!!

Greetings from ND where we have been selling fjords like hot cakes over the
holidays!!

Well, not any of mine, just my friends fjords, and to great homes at that!!
Yeah. One in particular was great as a 12 year old 4H girl from MN got her
long dreamed about fjord, and she is fjord crazy after seeing them at the
Minn. horse expo. Her mom just called me and said she is now living in the
barn and is already planning on showing her fjord Henrik in halter and lunge
line etc this spring! Still a couple left for sale, actually the best
yearling gelding is still here!! Hint hint!!

Anyway, ...

A BIG TUSEN TAKK TO MY SECRET SANTA, CINDY IN SAB BRUNA, CA!!! I LOVE it, -
print is on my wall in my office and the keychain in the pick up, love it!!!
By the way the print is a water color of a fjord sitting on his butt, to funny
as I have a mare that does this!!

Godt Nytt aar alle sammen!!

Janne

Just had to write to the List and thank my Secret Santa, Janne Myrdal...I
LOVE my present! I couldn't wait 'til tomorrow to open it upWow, I
was flabbergasted! I had to sit down and look at the plate so I wouldn't
drop it...it is gorgeous!! ((What is it, you are all collectively
wondering??))  Well, it's a Norwegian collectors plate of a Nisse (sp?)
holding up a treat to a Fjordie leaning over the stall doorto recieve it.
Thanks again Janne, and I would have thanked youi personally, but I am in
Los Angeles, and not at my home computer. And, I can't wait to use the
fjord cookie cutter, and I have pinned the little pewter fjord onto my
jacket.

And...

I want to wish everone on the list a very, very merry Christmas, keep
warm, and be happy!

Several Secret Santa Hints

2003-12-15 Thread Cynthia Madden
This message is from: Cynthia Madden [EMAIL PROTECTED]

For Tillie Evers:
It's true that I am from the state of golden sun
and I've been to your home full of laughter and fun.
I have two Fjords, I'd have ten if I could.
Fat and woolly and looking good!
Your Secret Santa

For Brigid Wasson:
Were glad to say your gift is on it's way.
One last hint as to who we are--
Our nearest Fjord neighbor to the south is the
Pedersons.
But it really makes no difference how near or far
because we are all neighbors and friends because of
our Fjords.
SS

For Karen Keith:
We have never met in person
although I think one day we will
I have never been to your state, but I guess you've
been to mine
I own two fjords - and we have the same favorite fjord
color

3500 + miles from each other. We have 4 Fjords. All

We ride, drive, and show some. When you are done
reading this, looking again ,I am sure you will find
there is a clue of who I am. Look for your gift soon.
