Re: [JAWS-Users] upgrading to VIS 2016

2015-11-22 Thread Mike

Hi Mario,

I believe that the correct version should be 9.0.1.4 for the 2016 version.
If you had other anti virus or anti malware packages installed on your
computer, Vipre would remove them during the installation of it. Some of
thesse, like Malware Bytes, can be reinstalled after Vipre is installed, and
they will run together without problems, but Vipre will not install itself
with another security product installed on your computer, so it is advised
to uninstall any of these before attempting to run the Vipre set up. In the
Vipre folder in Program Files (X86), there is a Reinstallation application
that can be used to do just that if something goes wrong with the software,
but I have never had to make use of this because the product has always
installed correctly. Were I you, I would "Check for Updates" in the old
Vipre version to see if it will offer to install the new v ersion for you.
If this does not happen, then I would suggest uninstalling the older version
and doing a clean install of the 2016 version. If needed, I will be happy to
walk through the set up with you after the software is installed. There
really is not that much to it. The biggest thing is setting up the schedules
that you want the software to run its scans on. Let me know what you decide
to do, then we can take it from there. If you are unprotected right now,
then I would enable Windows Defender to get you through until Vipre is
installed properly.

according to a support article, it says to uninstall first, but I think

Re: [JAWS-Users] making jaws cursor work in thunderbird?

2015-11-22 Thread Mario
these changes affect FF's or TB's interface to be more accessible, so
the version of JAWS or any other screen reader, I don't think, has any
baring. so... no, it shouldn't be necessary. once the changes are made,
they should persist, even when upgrading FF or TB. but it would be good
to check after uninstalling/reinstalling FF or TB for whatever reason.

btw, to start the config editor in Firefox, you'd type about:config in
the address bar.

Hi Cristóbal,

We run Vipre & MalwareBytes on all our computers with no problem. You will
probably have to tell Vipre that MWB is okay because Vipre will see it as some
sort of malware or virus or, whatever the correct Vipre terminology is.
Vipre, to put it nicely, is a much better protection program than MSSE.
Take care.

Let me ask this. I've got MS Essentials along with paid Malwarebytes on a
Win 7 laptop, but am considering this deal for my Windows 8.1 desktop. Is
there any advantage in security with one over the other? I'll probably get
this for the desktop, but am wondering if I'm better off just leaving
Essentials on the laptop and saving the second instalation for some other
machine the wife and I may qcquire down the road. She's a little more
flexible with what she can use since she doesn’t' have to consider screen
reader accessibility and Essentials is pretty good about this and I've heard
good things about Vipre in conjunction with Jaws.

Hello group,

For anyone interested, the most JAWS friendly Internet Security software,
Vipre Internet Security, is going to be on sale Thanksgiving day for 24
hours, from 12:01 AM Thursday Morning, until 11:59 PM Thursday night. The
price will be $49.99. This license is for 2 PC’s for the life time of the
computers. This is a $150 savings. So, if anyone has been wanting to make
the switch, Thursday will be the day to do so. I personally have used this
product for years with JAWS, and have never been disappointed. I just
recently upgraded to the new 2016 version, and received an email notifying
me of the upgrade.

Re: [JAWS-Users] making jaws cursor work in thunderbird?

2015-11-22 Thread Mario
Jim, Alex, Adam, and anyone else, I believe the following changes carry
over to Firefox's configurations, but the following applies to how to
perform the changes in Thunderbird:

to use the configuration editor:
press alt, t for tools and then o for options.
using the up or down cursor keys, find the advanced category, then tab
and use the right or left cursor keys to find the general sub category.
tab to the advanced configuration, config editor button and press the
spacebar key.

now, you must press the spacebar on the I’ll be careful, I promise! Button.
next, you will land in a search box where you can type the entry you are
looking for.

the following are entries to search for:

gfx.direct2d.disabled
if the boolean value is set to false, press the enter key to toggle the
value to true.

layers.acceleration.disabled
if the boolean value is set to false, press the enter key to toggle the
value to true.

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled
if the boolean value is set to true, press the enter key to toggle the
value to false.

press control+w to close the configuration window.
restart Thunderbird/Firefox.

you should now be able to use the JAWS cursor to review the
application's window and web pages.

let us know if this worked.

[JAWS-Users] Finally Back up and running.

2015-11-22 Thread Ron Kolesar
To all of my knoledgeable friends, I need your help with a problem.
I have my mail back up and running.
Before killing the older computer and there’s more things to get off of the
older computer.
But I went down under user, then app data, then local, then microsoft then to
windows live mail and copied that folder and all of my mailboxes and everything
inside the folder.
But I have the following problem.
How can I get my older mailboxes with all of those EM:L files of letters, into
the new windows live mail folder in the new computer?
I know a couple smart people like Londa and Dave could help me with this small
problem.
So, I hope I haven’t lost all of that mail.
Many Many Thanks.
Also, one weird thing that I am still receiving even on the newer computer.
When I go to type a address in the to field.
Even those I only type in the address once, and it could be because some times
I type in the address by the address and other times via the nickname for that
pers.
But, it doesn’t matter how I do the address in the to field, it still comes up
two copies of the address.
The first address is fine, but then without a space at the end of the first
copy of the first address I get a greater than sign then the second copy of the
address then a lesser than sign then a colon.
Then I usually have to cut the entire line out of the to box and place it into
the cc box or where ever.
Go to the greater than sign and space it once so it isn’t near the original
copy of the email address that I want and then deleete the greater than and
crap out, and then cut the original copy of the email address that I want and
place it back into the to field once again, then double check it to make sure
there’s no colons or spaces at the end of the address. Then only then can I
ship out the letter.
Also, To the left of the body of the letter it states that I have a personal
business card. I never put it into any of my out going mail. So how can I kill
that as well?
I thank anyone who can help me out in advance.
Now I can read all of that back log of mail from about the last week from being
down getting the new window ten computer.

Hi tom,
Ok, I am going to talk about my own experience. I am not going to say that
my experience should be true for everybody, because likes are different for
everybody.
I am totally blind, and by experience, if I work in a small tablet, for me
is very easy to search something on the screen with my fingers if I am not
able to find it with the keyboard. It happen some times when the
accessibility is not the best in some kind of web pages or programs.
Probably for a person using magnification, a large screen is better because
their degree of sight is going to be better due to the large screen. Both
tablets that I have are 10.8 inches, they are not the smaller tablets in the
market. But they are the smaller with good processors. My Microsoft tablet
has an i5 processor with 8 Gb of ram, it has just
10.8 inches. It is not the newer tablet in the market now, it is a surface
pro 2, around 2 years old, but still the surface pro 3 and surface pro 4
are with i5 processors and
8 gb of ram. So I paid half part of the current price of those Microsoft
surface pro 3 or 4, but I have a surface pro
2 with the same hardware. Again, the size for me is important because is
easier to find things on the screen, and also is easy to carry a tablet of
10.8 inches than other of 13.6 inches. But I don't want to create
discussions about which tablet is better. It is my experience. Only my
experience.
In my work, I use another tablet dell venue pro 11, it has
10.8 inches, and it has a atom 2.3ghz processor, with only 8gb of ram. It is
a tablet very limited if I compare with my personal tablet, but it still is
very fast and I am able to work with office 2013, and inside a intranet. My
Dell tablet has a keyboard very nice, that is metal as the tablet, and the
keyboard and the tablet are attached. When I close the keyboard and the
tablet, they looks like a mini laptop, very comfortable and nice. Also the
keyboard provide extra battery to the tablet. It looks very professional.
About accessibility?
In both tablets, Microsoft and dell, jaws works and NVDa works very well.

Although I don't personally use a monitor, I would like a monitor that is

function, we

recommend trying that as a way to rearrange playlists.

This is not so much a solution as a workaround and is viable only if you

Hi tom,
Ok, I am going to talk about my own experience. I am not
going to say that my experience should be true for
everybody, because likes are different for everybody.
I am totally blind, and by experience, if I work in a small
tablet, for me is very easy to search something on the
screen with my fingers if I am not able to find it with the
keyboard. It happen some times when the accessibility is not
the best in some kind of web pages or programs.
Probably for a person using magnification, a large screen is
better because their degree of sight is going to be better
due to the large screen. Both tablets that I have are 10.8
inches, they are not the smaller tablets in the market. But
they are the smaller with good processors. My Microsoft
tablet has an i5 processor with 8 Gb of ram, it has just
10.8 inches. It is not the newer tablet in the market now,
it is a surface pro 2, around 2 years old, but still the
surface pro 3 and surface pro 4 are with i5 processors and
8 gb of ram. So I paid half part of the current price of
those Microsoft surface pro 3 or 4, but I have a surface pro
2 with the same hardware. Again, the size for me is
important because is easier to find things on the screen,
and also is easy to carry a tablet of 10.8 inches than other
of 13.6 inches. But I don't want to create discussions about
which tablet is better. It is my experience. Only my
experience.
In my work, I use another tablet dell venue pro 11, it has
10.8 inches, and it has a atom 2.3ghz processor, with only
8gb of ram. It is a tablet very limited if I compare with my
personal tablet, but it still is very fast and I am able to
work with office 2013, and inside a intranet. My Dell tablet
has a keyboard very nice, that is metal as the tablet, and
the keyboard and the tablet are attached. When I close the
keyboard and the tablet, they looks like a mini laptop, very
comfortable and nice. Also the keyboard provide extra
battery to the tablet. It looks very professional.
About accessibility?
In both tablets, Microsoft and dell, jaws works and NVDa

I'm not sure if it's after the windows 10 update, or after I made changes in
the quick setting which I don't remember what the changes were; however,
here is the skinny.

Let's say there are two links I am passing by, about and contact us. I
click contact us and the about page opens.

The only way I can get the right link to launch is listing the links, tab to
move to link, then activate link. That is to much just to read a page lol,
thoughts?

Windows 10, jaws 16 and IE 11.

Am I correct in saying that both of the tablets you use run on something

Also, what version of Jaws to you use with these devices?

Hi tom,
Ok, I am going to talk about my own experience.
Both
tablets that I have are 10.8 inches, they are not the smaller tablets in
the market. But they are the smaller with good processors. My Microsoft
tablet has an i5 processor with 8 Gb of ram, it has just 10.8 inches. It is
not the newer tablet in the market now, it is a surface pro 2, around 2
years old, but still the surface pro 3 and surface pro 4 are with i5
processors and 8 gb of ram. So I paid half part of the current price of
those Microsoft surface pro 3 or 4, but I have a surface pro 2 with the same
hardware. Again, the size for me is important because is easier to find
things on the screen, and also is easy to carry a tablet of 10.8 inches than
other of 13.6 inches. But I don't want to create discussions about which
tablet is better. It is my experience. Only my experience.
In my work, I use another tablet dell venue pro 11, it has 10.8 inches, and
it has a atom 2.3ghz processor, with only 8gb of ram. It is a tablet very
limited if I compare with my personal tablet, but it still is very fast and
I am able to work with office 2013, and inside a intranet. My Dell tablet
has a keyboard very nice, that is metal as the tablet, and the keyboard and
the tablet are attached. When I close the keyboard and the tablet, they
looks like a mini laptop, very comfortable and nice. Also the keyboard

I have seen nothing saying that one has to upgrade everytime that a new
version of Jaws is released. If you have
2 SMA's remaining, and you choose not to upgrade to 18, then you will still
have 2 SMA's when versions 19 and 20 are released. I just used my last SMA
to upgrade to 17, and I did renew my SMA's, but the FS salesperson did not
state that they were for Jaws 18 and 19, nor did the sales receipt that I
received via mail a few days later

If you have one upgrade remaining, that's the sma. You have to use it for
17. If you try and use it for 18, you won't be authorized. It will know that
you've tried to skip, and it won't let you. I would encourage you to call FS
to verify what I'm saying to you. I just hate to see you waste a perfectly
good upgrade thinking that you can use it later when you can't.

Hi Kevin,
Unfortunately,, as far as I know you can't save SMA's. If you don't install
17, you still can't get 18 if you only have one SMA left. You've simply
wasted your SMA by not installing 17. Unless FS has changed something
recently that is.

Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: Drag and drop ...

2015-11-22 Thread Kimberly
This is not so much a solution as a workaround and is viable only if you have
an apple device. But I usually rearrange songs on my phoe then sync the
playlist back to the computer.

I am not sure what is going on at apple accessibility, but I received the same
nonresponse when I recently reported my inability to confirm payment
information on the apple web site using jaws.

I'm having great results with vipre 2016, it's basically an install and forget
it cause your protected! now I do go into vipre every once in awhile and do a
manual scan but nothing is ever found. in my protected list they said they
have protected me from 144 threats.
I can say when I was using Microsoft security essentials a lot of threats got
through and I never viewed a log that lists how many threats mse has protected
me from!
go with vipre it's worth the money if you use a screen reader or not!

Let me ask this. I've got MS Essentials along with paid Malwarebytes on a Win 7
laptop, but am considering this deal for my Windows 8.1 desktop. Is there any
advantage in security with one over the other? I'll probably get this for the
desktop, but am wondering if I'm better off just leaving Essentials on the
laptop and saving the second instalation for some other machine the wife and I
may qcquire down the road. She's a little more flexible with what she can use
since she doesn’t' have to consider screen reader accessibility and Essentials
is pretty good about this and I've heard good things about Vipre in conjunction
with Jaws.

Hello group,

For anyone interested, the most JAWS friendly Internet Security software,
Vipre Internet Security, is going to be on sale Thanksgiving day for 24 hours,
from 12:01 AM Thursday Morning, until 11:59 PM Thursday night. The price will
be $49.99. This license is for 2 PC’s for the life time of the computers. This
is a $150 savings. So, if anyone has been wanting to make the switch, Thursday
will be the day to do so. I personally have used this product for years with
JAWS, and have never been disappointed. I just recently upgraded to the new
2016 version, and received an email notifying me of the upgrade.

Is it possible to silence the pop sound you get when listening to text

Hello, everyone.

I have a question that I hope will not be considered off topic for this
list.

I would like to purchase some sort of a Windows tablet to use when
traveling, and for when I don't want to drag my laptop computer around.

I am currently using Jaws 16, but plan to upgrade to Jaws 17 at some

point,

probably in the next few months.

I assume that any windows-based tablet that I might get now will
automatically come with Windows 10 installed, which I'm ok with, since

I'll

eventually need to upgrade my other computers to that operating system at
some point.

Can anyone give me recommendations and approximate costs of windows

tablets

that would have sufficient resources to accommodate Jaws, and basic
Microsoft software such as Microsoft Office, Outlook e-mail, etc.?

At one point, I had considered moving to an IPad, but I am quite

comfortable

with the Jaws to windows interface, so would prefer to stick with a

Windows

tablet if at all possible.

Thank you!

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

[JAWS-Users] jaws 17 not speaking headers correctly in outlook 2013 and outlook 2016

2015-11-22 Thread dan
Hi,

This is a jaws 17 specific issue as I am not facing any problems with jaws
16.

In outlook 2013 and 2016, when navigating through the messagelist jaws is
far too chatty i.e it reads out the columns so I hear *from* paul, *subject*
today's meeting. In jaws 16 I solved this by using jaws + f2 and and
adjusted the outlook options as what and not to read out.

However, in jaws 17 these outlook options are missing.

Any advice?

Cheers
