Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 security center
Hi Kevin, No, it did not work, though I could have sworn I posted that to the list, but thank you very much for your help. Not sure if you saw my detailed account of how I managed to Install Windows 10, but I basically had to shut down a number of background applications I had running in order to make sure that the download/installation could go through as it was supposed to. I also shut down my anti-virus/malware altogether, as opposed to simply shutting down the active monitoring. I also took the added precaution of disconnecting any peripherals I had connected to the computer, making sure that it wasn't a possible hardware conflict. Having said that, I did manage to figure out that the SoundBlaster sound card I had initially thought was the problem wa snot after all. I still managed to install the Windows 10 upgrade despite it still being installed on my system, so I've deduced it was a software issue all along. If you have any questions, or if you need me to re-post my message that detailed what I did, let me know, and I'll send it to you off list so as not to place a second copy on the Jaws-users server. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 and classic view question?
Miriam, a friend of mine always says, Things are getting worse; send chocolate. I have a messy win 7 on my hands. I installed the classic shell program the several jaws users recommended but it hasn't changed anything. Ken is coming tomorrow but I'm thinking we should go back to the main page format and start over on the main page. I'm thinking that we should uninstall the win 7 setup and reinstall it since some of the tasks Ken has done were futile attempts to reorganze the start page byi getting rid of things. My win 7 should have been completely cleaned but wasn't methinks Then we could do a complete reinstall, then use classic shell or classic view (shell is apparently a new version of view. Otherwise, maybe I'll throw the darned thing out the window. I'll let you know so we can talk when I get something worked out here and calm down. I believe you need pro to setup a home group. If you don't know what that is then it is doubtful you will need pro. It has to do with networking your systems together. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 and classic view question?
Hi Marilyn, Sorry if I confused you, yes, I am talking about the Windows XP operating system, and using the Classic start menu. Let me explain a little about that. In Windows XP and Vista, you had a choice of what start menu you wanted to use, either the classic, which refers to the Windows 98 start menu, or, the XP or Vista start menus respectively. You do not have that option in Windows 7 or 8, but you can customize the start menu in Windows 7 somewhat. I use the start menu in all versions of Windows that I have the same way, I arrow up and down, and when I come to the item I want, I just hit enter, it is the same as using the right arrow key. In Windows 7 after pressing the Windows key, the start menu will open, and the focus will be on the search box, at this point, if you up arrow, you should find all programs, just hit enter, and then you can arrow through your programs. If you have had someone put things on the start menu for you, when the focus is on the search box, just down arrow, and they should be there. You can have everything you want displayed as a list, it just has to be set that way just like in Windows XP. If you need more, just sing out. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 and classic view question?
Hi For me, in Windows 7, pressing the Windows key by itself will bring up the Start Menu if you're on the desktop or any other window, the same as pressing control+escape. Arrowing up and down thru the start menu will list a certain number of the programs you have used, but not all programs on the computer. When you're on the search box, you can right arrow to the second column of the start menu and arrow up and down to your Windows user folder and options like documents, computers, etc. As was mentioned, you can type something in the search box and a list will pop up with things that match what you type. Also when you're on the search box, if you up arrow one time you will hear All Programs. Right arrow to get into the All Programs menu. This Menu contains all the programs that have put entries into the All Programs menu, the same as Windows XP, except for the addition of search and back entries. The only difference between this All Programs menu and the one in Windows XP, is that in Windows 7, the single program entries are listed before the sub-menu entries. And once you arrow away from the search or back entry, you can use first letter navigation to find what you want. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Miriam Vieni Sent: Monday, January 06, 2014 09:35 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 and classic view question? Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 and classic view question?
Hi Marilyn, Unless you use a third-party program designed to change the GUI (graphical user interface), it's not going to happen. The only thing available in classic in Windows 7 is the appearance of the Desktop. The plus with Win7 over Win8 is that 7 still has menus in Windows Explorer, 8 does not. Windows 7 does not give any option to change the start menu as in Windows XP and Vista, but there is no need to be afraid of it, just takes a little getting used to. I don't find navigating it any faster as others have claimed I work mainly from the start menu, and can still operate much quicker with the Windows XP start menu. Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 and classic view question?
Hi Marilyn, To put your desktop into the Windows Classic theme do the following: 1. While on the desktop press the F5 key to make sure that nothing is selected. 2. Press the applications key, arrow down to Personalize press enter. 3. You will now be in the Themes Gallery. here the different themes are in columns. To find the Windows Classic Theme, arrow down to Windows7 Basic, right arrow 1 time to Windows Classic Theme press enter. This should switch you to the Windows Classic Theme. Also, changing themes will probably change your Sound Schemes as well. So, you might have to alter your sound schemes to get the sounds you want. P.S. Happy Birthday to you January 7th! It might be in the listing of accounts when you try to type in your password. Jaws will say Logging on a second time, presumably because once you enter the password, Windows will load your personal user profile and you have Jaws set to talk at the startup screen and also when you start your profile. Jaws performs equally well whether UAK is set to 0 or 67%, which is the default. The UAK will often give dialogs if you try to run programs or install a new program. Sometimes, the dialog may be covered up, but you would press alt-Y to run or alt-N to deny the program access. Some people elect to turn off UAK to avoid these annoyances. However, UAK does isolate the operating sytem and your browsing from the effects of malware which could run much more easily in XP. I do a bit of tech work and recommend my clients keep UAK on, at least at the 33% level. Even though I am technically competent, run an anti-virus program, a malware program, a software and hardware firewall, I also elect to run UAK on my own Win 7 PC. I know others who think that is overkill, so if you choose to keep it off, that is your decision. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. Hi, I have seen this behavior lately as well. Just in the last 2 days Jaws frequently does not seem to gain focus on the fields in the logon screen. Last evening I even had to get my wife to use the mouse and click on the password field in order for Jaws to recognize the field. By the way, tabbing does nothing. My wife said the cursor was on the password field but typing characters did nothing either. This is very strange. It is now so bad that this morning I had to reboot my system to get so that I could log into my system. I sure hope this one can be fixed quickly. I wonder if perhaps it is due to some windows update or something. Thanks. Now for your log-on page problem. I am not sure what is going on, but 1. Have you tried tabbing around to see if you can get to the password field? 2. Maybe the screen isn't maximized, so you might give that a try, or 3. Have you tried alt-tab to see if you can focus on the log-on screen. With that in mind, what does JAWSKeY-t have to say. I have 2 windows 7 machines, and so far haven't had this problem, so this is all I can think of. Tabbing a few times always brought the log on field back into focus for me when this happens. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 7 login glitch
Michelle, A shortcut you can do when the Windows music sounds are heard, you can actually type your password and hit enter at this point. Personally I wait a second and then enter my password plus hit enter. This will remove your trying to figure what is focused on. Also, most of the time the password field is in focus so you could just type in the password when JAWS speaks. If you really want to read the current line, do the shift tab back to your computer name and then tab back to the password field. This may also give you comfort in believing you are really at the password field to type. Regarding the User Account setting, I leave mine most secure (100 percent) and have had no issues with JAWS running. I looked under the User Accounts Help and copied the following: Note If you're using an accessibility device, such as a screen reader, we recommend that you choose either the Always notify or the Default - Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer UAC setting. Assistive technologies work best with these two settings. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 7 Activation
Hi Steven, It shouldn't be too difficult. Basically, you read it your installation ID - a long series of numbers displayed in the activation window - to the automated phone system. You'll want to use your JAWS cursor to find these numbers. Then the automated phone system will read back another series of numbers which you have to enter into the activation window to confirm that you are authorized to complete the activation. The phone system will ask if the activation was successful, and you should answer yes or no. It's probably better if your computer is nearby, because that way you can make sure the numbers all match before you hang up. What you neede to do is; 1, navigate to the control panel, Start menu edit box and type control, You need to enter on control panel. 2, you most likely will land on a search edit box, Tab once you should hear, Category 3, press the spacebar, Now you have choice, Using the arrow keys, Small icons, Large icons, Press enter on the small icons, This will solve your friends problem. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of john melia Sent: Wednesday, June 27, 2012 1:03 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 layout Go in to the view menue and make sure lists are checked this might do the trick. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of brad Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2012 11:16 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] windows 7 layout I am using windows 7 with jaws 13 and it is easy for me to use the functions of windows 7. [JAWS-Users] Windows 7 Outlook 2003 question
First: I've been having an issue when attempting to either save attachments or attach a document to an email. I tried to save an attachment today and I wanted it to go to Documents. But windows wouldn't allow me to save it to a folder with that name. I finally saved it to one of the subfolders I'd created within it. Can anyone explain how to save an attachment in the Documents folder? I also have had difficulty retrieving a document to attach to an email from there. Second: I would have been quite happy to just read the attachment and was told I could do this by using insert A. But this hasn't worked. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Third: Later, after having had to save the attachment to a folder other than Documents, I converted an email to a text file and saved it. Usually, it automatically gets saved in Documents. But it wasn't there. I found it in the sub folder where I'd previously been forced to save my email attachment. Obviously, the path was changed. Now, I don't know how to get it back to where it's supposed to be, saving in Documents. Miriam For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Hello there; Well, I'm not sure if this works in outlook2003, However, In outlook2007outlook2010, If you wish to add an attachment, 1, navigate to the folder where the file resides which you wish to attach to an email. Copy to clipboard. Note you don't enter on the file just highlight and copy. Now, open outlook2003, Type in recipient's name/email, Now, tab to subjectline, and type in subject, Now tab to the edit/body of the message, and paste. If you shift+tab you should see your attached file. Let me no if this works with outlook2003.
