[JOYnet] Useful

2002-12-03 Thread George Joseph Fernandes
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come
that they may have life, and have it to the full.

This is an IMPORTANT RECALL NOTICE...

The Maker of all human beings is recalling all units manufactured,
regardless of make or year, due to the serious defect in the primary and
central component of the heart. This is due to a malfunction in the original
prototype units, code named Adam and Eve, resulting in the reproduction of
the same defect in all subsequent units. This defect has been technically
termed, Sub-sequential Internal Non-Morality, or more commonly known as
S-I-N . It is primarily symptomized by loss of moral judgment. Some other
symptoms:
(a) Loss of direction
(b) Foul vocal emissions
(c) Amnesia of origin
(d) Lack of peace and joy
(e) Selfish, or violent, behavior
(f) Depression or confusion in the mental component.

The manufacturer, who is neither liable nor at fault for this defect, is
providing factory authorized repair and service, free of charge to correct
this SIN defect. The number to call for the recall station in your area is:
P-R-A-Y-E-R Once connected, please upload your burden of SIN by pressing
R-E-P-E-N-T-A-N-C-E. Next, download J-E-S-U-S into the heart. No matter
how big or small the SIN defect is, the JESUS repair will replace it with:
(a) Love
(b) Joy
(c) Peace
(d) Longsuffering
(e) Gentleness
(f) Goodness
(g) Faith
(h) Meekness
(i) Temperance
Please see operating manual, HOLY BIBLE for further details on the use
of these fixes. WARNING: Continuing to operate the human unit without
correction, voids the manufacturer's warranty, exposing owner to dangers and
problems too numerous to list and will result in the human unit being
permanently impounded. For free emergency service, call: J-E-S-U-S
DANGER: The human units not receiving this recall action will have to be
scrapped in the furnace.

[JOYnet] With a Kiss!

2002-12-02 Thread George Joseph Fernandes
With a Kiss!

While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve apostles, came
up. With him were many people carrying swords and clubs who had been sent
from the leading priests and the older Jewish leaders of the people. Judas
had planned to give them a signal, saying, The man I kiss is Jesus. Arrest
him. At once Judas went to Jesus and said, Greetings, Teacher! and kissed
him. Jesus answered, Friend, do what you came to do.
-- Matthew 26:47-50 (NCV)

Betrayed in the garden of prayer.
Betrayed by a kiss.
Betrayed by a friend.

Unfortunately, betrayal in God's family did not end with Judas. Betrayal by
a Christian friend and confidant didn't stop when the moisture from Judas'
kiss on Jesus' cheek dried. Unfortunately, betrayal in what is supposed to
be a place of safety and spiritual nurture didn't end when Judas hung
himself. Have you been betrayed by a friend in Christ? Have you been
undercut that is suppose to be a loyal confidant? Have you been wounded in
what is supposed to be a place of spiritual safety? If you have, you
know the wounds a friend can leave when they no longer are a friend! You
know the pain of Gethsemane.

But if this is your story, remember it was also Jesus' story. For you, for
us, the story of Matthew's Gospel finishes with a powerful two point
message. Watch Jesus as he is betrayed, denied, and forsaken by his most
beloved friends. He is a pioneer for us on how to handle the agony of
betrayal and abandonment. Second, speak honestly to Jesus about your wounds
and hurts. He not only knows and understands because he is Divine, but also
because he has been there and longs to comfort and help you in your time of
heartbreak.

[JOYnet] The Company of Friends

2002-11-21 Thread George Joseph Fernandes
 The Company of Friends

Then Jesus went with his followers to a place called Gethsemane. He
said to them, Sit here while I go over there and pray. He took Peter and
the two sons of Zebedee with him, and he began to be very sad and
troubled. He said to them, My heart is full of sorrow, to the point of
death. Stay here and watch with me. -- Matthew 26:36-38 (NCV)

 KEY THOUGHT:
It's hard to imagine Jesus needing anything if we divorce his divine
nature from his his human nature. But God never allowed that divorce.
Jesus faced the same struggles and needs we do as mortals. He knows what
lies ahead for him. He knows he will be abandoned by all those he has
invested himself in. But before that that horrible journey begins, he
wants the companionship of those closest to him. And he wants this
 companionship while he prays!

 PRAYER:
Father, I confess that sometimes I am caught up in my own
self-sufficiency and thoughts of independence when I know, deep down, that
I need the strength and support of other believers. Forgive me when I
think too much of my own strength and when I am to proud to ask for the
help of fellow Christians. Humble me gently so I that I will open my heart
to the help and companionship of Christian friends. In Jesus' name I pray.
 Amen.

[JOYnet] FW: Peace

2002-09-22 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Written by Mario Bermejo:
Peace seems to be a scant commodity in the world today. I said seems
because real peace may be present even in the midst of chaos as the
following anecdote vividly portrays.
The theme chosen for an on-the-spot painting competition was PEACE. At
stake was honor, fame and cash. Contestants were asked to depict on canvas
as best they could the subject of peace. The artists had the whole day to
work on their pieces - in the evening was the awarding ceremony. The
completed works of art were displayed before the judges, some of whom were
well-known artists themselves. One painting was a country scene in the night
with the moon and stars lighting the cloudless sky. Another painting showed
an old farmhouse with little children gleefully playing around. Another
depicts the tranquillity of a lake reflecting majestic mountains in the
background. Still another portrayed a modern city asleep peacefully in the
midst of a light-gilded landscape. The rest of the paintings were typical of
what people may consider scenes of serenity, quietude and tranquillity.
However, one painting stood out from among the others in that it portrayed a
raging storm in its fury - with a little bird that appeared to be singing as
it found refuge under a huge and mighty rock. The judges were unanimous this
was the best portrayal of what peace really is.
This reminds me of Jesus when He was peacefully asleep while His disciples
were in a state of panic because the boat they were on board was being
buffeted by a storm in the middle of the sea. In fear they woke up their
Master and complained that they were about to sink into the depths of the
sea. Jesus rebuked them and calmed the storm by saying, Peace, be still.
How could you panic, Oh, ye of little faith, when the Prince of Peace was
in your midst?
PEACE IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF TROUBLE BUT THE PRESENCE OF GOD.

[JOYnet] Hair cut

2002-09-04 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

A young boy had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his father,
(who was a minister) if they could discuss his use of the car.

His father said to him, I'll make a deal with you. You bring your
grades up, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut, then we
will talk about it.

A month later the boy came back and again asked his father if they could
discuss his use of the car.

His father said, Son, I'm real proud of you. You have brought your
grades up, you've studied your Bible diligently, but you didn't get hair
cut!

The young man waited a moment and replied, You know dad, I've been
thinking about that. You know Samson had long hair, Moses had long
hair, Noah had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair.

His father replied, Yes son, and they walked everywhere they went!

[JOYnet] Philippians 2:9

2002-09-02 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

VERSE:
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the
name that is above every name...
-- Philippians 2:9

THOUGHT:
For Jesus, Graciousness + Guts + Giving + Grit = Glory. Just
one of those equations in salvation math that doesn't make much
human sense, but from the perspective of faith, it is powerful
wisdom. Jesus came to our world because of the graciousness of
God. Jesus had the guts to leave behind heaven and face the
hardships of humanity, and give of himself to serve others. Jesus
had the grit to endure the horrors and humiliation of the cross.
So God has shared with Jesus his glory and placed him above all
others. The apostle Paul wants to remind us that God doesn't
forget our sacrifices, our obedience, and our hardships. He does
honor them with his pleasure and his glory because Jesus' sacrifice
has made us holy!

PRAYER:
Holy Father and Lord God, I believe that Jesus Christ is your
Son and my Savior and Lord. I surrender my heart to have no rival
interest to the lordship of your Son. Thank you for your wonderful
gift of love in him. In Jesus' name. Amen.

[JOYnet] Was AND Is

2002-07-09 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

A computer was something on TV
From a science fiction show of note
A window was something you hated to clean
And ram was the cousin of a goat.

Meg was the name of my girlfriend
And gig was a job for the nights
Now they all mean different things
And that really mega bytes.

An application was for employment
A program was a TV show
A cursor used profanity
A keyboard was a piano.

Memory was something that you lost with age

A CD was a bank account
And if you had a 3-in. floppy
You hoped nobody ever found out.

Compress was something you did to the garbage
Not something you did to a file

And if you unzipped anything in public
You'd be in jail for a while.

Log on was adding wood to the fire
Hard drive was a long trip on the road
A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
And a backup happened to your commode.

Cut you did with a pocket knife
Paste you did with glue
A web was a spider's home
And a virus was the flu.

I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper
And the memory in my head

I hear nobody's been killed in a computer crash But I've heard it plenty
times said !

[JOYnet] Quote

2002-05-29 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

The happiest people in the world are those who love what they are doing,
regardless of whether wealth, fame, power, and elevated social status ever
come their way. The most fulfilled people are those who derive rewards from
the intrinsic enjoyment of what they are contributing to life, come what
may. And they are people who relish the challenge to pursue excellence in
their activities, as well as in themselves... The kind of success I am most
interested in is the sort available to every human being living, breathing,
thinking and doing things on this earth. It does not require wealth, fame,
power or high social status... It requires making the most of what we are.
It means making a difference. It means using your talents and following your
heart. It involves being true to yourself and being good to others.

[JOYnet] Baptism

2002-03-28 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

The meaning of Baptism:

1. It means obedience to the command of Christ, Mark 16:16, He that
believeth and is baptised shall be saved. Please note that believing comes
before baptism.

2. It means following Christ's example. I Peter 2:21, ...because Christ
also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow his
steps. see also John 13:15.

3. It means fulfilling all righteousness. Matt.3:15. Suffer it to be so
now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness, If Jesus needed
it, I certainly do, too.

4. It means identification with Christ, Rom.6:4-13
a. Identification in his death. Rom.6:5, ...planted together in the
likeness of His death.
b. Identification in his burial.Rom.6:4, ...buried WITH HIM by baptism into
death.
c. Identification in his resurrection. Rom.6:4, ...like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should
walk in newness of life.

5. It means association with Christ's body. I Cor.12:13, For by one spirit
are we all baptised into one body.

[JOYnet] The reason for His death

2002-03-27 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Why did the Lord Jesus, the sinless one have to die?

We can understand how a guilty person would have to die as a result of sin.
Jesus took our sin and died to satisfy the justice of a Holy God in heaven.
Sin demanded a payment - the death penalty. Only Christ could pay it in
full.

All the attributes of God must be in harmony to make Salvation possible.
God's loving nature could not forgive sin until His legal nature was
satisfied. In Calvary all the attributes of God found a perfect solution.

The result of Christ's death was Salvation to all mankind that accept Him as
Saviour.
I Timothy 4:10, '... who is the Saviour of all and especially of those who
believe.'

Could God not just forgive the sinner without the terrible death on Calvary?
Sin has been committed against God. Why couldn't God just blot it out?

He could not for the law of God must be satisfied.

In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Gen.2:17
'The soul that sinneth it shall die.' Ezekiel 18:4
'For the wages of sin is death.' Rom.6:23

Repentance does not remove the need for punishment for sin. Sin has been
committed and it must be dealt with according to God's own precepts. The
justice and honour of God are at stake and must be preserved. The holiness
of God demands the death penalty for sin.

Thankyou Jesus!

[JOYnet] Philippians 1:29

2002-03-12 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to
believe on him, but also to suffer for him...
-- Philippians 1:29

Suffer! How is suffering a privilege? IT'S NOT unless it is
for Jesus. Remember how the early apostles were joyful because
they were counted worthy to suffer for the name? (cf. Acts 5:41)
You see, he suffered for us so we could be saved. When we face
suffering for the cause of Christ and his Kingdom, we help inspire
others to live faithfully in adversity and show to all the
genuineness of our faith. So few have anything worthy of their
living, dying, or suffering. We have reason for all three: our
lives will be caught up in Jesus' victory! (cf. Rom. 8:32-39; 1
Cor. 15)

[JOYnet] Doctor vs. Mechanic

2002-02-16 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the
motor of a car when he spotted a famous heart surgeon
in his workshop who was standing off to the side, waiting for the
service
manager to come take a look at his car.

The mechanic shouted across the garage, Hello Doctor! Please come over
here for a minute. The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, came over to
the mechanic.

The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked
argumentatively, So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take
valves
out, grind 'em, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a
new
one.So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doing
basically
  the same work?

The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic. Try to do it when
the
  Engine Is Running.

[JOYnet] Building a Lasting Marriage

2001-11-29 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Everything I know About SUCCESS, I learned from the BIBLE

Topic : Building a Lasting Marriage

Introduction:

All of us work hard to make our marriage meaningful and lasting. We want
our marriage that is happy and joyful with a minimum of conflict, pain and
struggle. Yet many marriages fail to meet these expectations. Often, the
reason can be traced to the fact that the couple overlooked several
essential ingredients.

Body:

The Word of God provides us with a recipe, ten of the essential ingredients
for a meaningful marriage.

1. Total Commitment

Total commitment to the marriage (union) and to each other is
essential for a lasting marriage.

The ingredient is reflected in the CLEAVING (adhering, sticking,
devoted) spoken of in God's description of marriage.

God says in , Genesis 2 : 24 - For this cause a man shall leave his
father and mother and shall cleave (united - to adhere firmly and closely or
loyally and unwaveringly) to his wife; and they shall become one in flesh.

Commitment to marriage involves a recognition that marriage is more
than just a legal or judicial agreement.

But the Bible calls it a COVENANT (Proverbs 2:17 ; Malachi 2:14).
Marriage involves a vow or promise that makes the obligation binding.

Commitment to marriage involves a recognition that marriage was
designed by God to permanent until death. What therefore God joined
together let no man asunder - Matthew 19:6)

2. Total Acceptance

In marriage we should accept our partner as he or she is.

Most of us have had few surprise during our first year of marriage.
Give example..

Many couples spend their lives nagging each other about personal
habits and idiosyncrasies that they have no power to change. Nagging will
never change our partners much. It will only irritate them and make us
bitter.

Romans 15:7 Wherefore accept one another just as Christ also
accepted us to his glory

If we have a problem with our spouse, we should make it a matter of
prayer. Perhaps the Lord will change us! Not our partner but us, our
attitude towards our partner by accepting him/her.

We should learn to appreciate the peculiarities of our spouse as
evidences of the unique and special individual God has made that person.

3. Loving Communication

Underline, Loving communication.

Honest communication is better but it should be spoken with love.

Ephesians 4:15 - But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow in
all aspects in Him.

Loving communication lets the truth be known, but it does so in such
a way to edify the partner and build up the marriage.

4. Genuine Forgiveness

Nobody is perfect. That state of affairs demands a lot of genuine
forgiveness in marriage.

Let's take the case of Hosea.

Gomer, Hosea's adulterous wife actually became a temple of
prostitute. Yet God instructed Hosea, Go again, love a woman who is loved
by her husband, yet an adulteress - Hosea 3:1. It was not easy for Hosea
but he sought his unfaithful wife and restored her to himself and to God.
Hosea shown here genuine forgiveness.

Genuine forgiveness of even the worst sin is not only essential to a
successful marriage; it is essential to the enjoyment of God's blessing. God
will not bless an unforgiving heart.

5. Role Relationship

Their two main roles for spouses in marriage. The husband's role is
that of SACRIFICIAL LOVER (Eph 5:25). TH wife's role is that SUBMISSIVE
HELPER (Genesis 2:18)

The husband has the authority over his wife, but he is not to be
dictator. Nor his wife to be a doormat.
The husband is to exercise his headship in love and sacrifice. The wife is
to exercise her submission with assistance and respect.

Two different roles and yet they are equal like Christ has a role
different from the Father, yet they are equal (1 Cor. 11:3)

6. Spiritual Kinship

A Christian husband and wife must develop a spiritual kinship - a
sense of being co-laborers for Christ with a joint mission in life.

Husband and wife work in the vineyard of God as a team effort which
will result of developing a ministry together.

Spouses need to share in each other's lives and ministries. Praying
together, working together, and dreaming together will help build a
spiritual kinship and lasting marriage.

7. Growing Friendship

Is our spouse our best friend?

Friends talk, give gifts and do things together .(expound).

So let us treat our mate as our best friend.

8. Flaming Romance

The physical

[JOYnet] WHEN SHOULD I FAST?

2001-08-29 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

WHEN SHOULD I FAST?

Many occasions for fasting are recorded in scripture.

 A. The ordination of elders and commissioning of apostles to ministry.
Acts 13:3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid
their hands on them, they sent them away.
Acts 14:23 And when they had ordained them elders in every
church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them
 to the Lord...

 B. Intercession for the people of God.
   Exodus 24:18
   Deuteronomy 9:8-9, 12-20, 23-27
   Ezra 10:6
   Daniel 9:3-4
   Joel 2:12-14, 17-18
   Jonah 3:5-10

 C. Humbling and chastening of oneself.
I Kings 21:27-29 ... Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself
 before me?
   Psalms 35:13 ... I humbled myself with fasting ...
Psalms 69:10 I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting
 ...

 D. Seeking the Lord and His way.
Judges 20:26-28, etc. Then all the children of Israel, and
all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat
there before the Lord, and fasted that day until evening, and ... inquired
of the Lord ... (whether to) go out to battle ... And the Lord said,
 Go up ...
II Chronicles 20:3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself
to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
Ezra 8:21-23 Then I proclaimed a fast ... that we might
afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and
for our little ones, and for all our substance. For I was ashamed to ask
the king ... to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had
spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our god is upon all them for
good that seek him ... So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he
 was intreated of us.

 E. Repentance and confession of sin.
   I Samuel 7:6
   I Kings 21:27-29
Ezra 10:6 ... he ate no bread, nor drank water: for he mourned
 because of the transgression ...
Nehemiah 1:4-7, etc. ...when I heard these words, I sat down and
wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed...
Nehemiah 9:1-3 ... the children of Israel were assembled with
fasting ... and stood and confessed their sins ... one fourth part of
the day ... they confessed ...
   Jeremiah 36:6-10
Daniel 9:3-5, 20 ... confessing my sin and the sin of my people
 ...
   Jonah 3:5-10

 F. Receiving healing.
   I Samuel 1:5-11, 18-20
   II Samuel 12:15-16, 22-23
   Isaiah 58:8
   Acts 9:9, 17-19

 G. Petitioning God to withhold His hand in judgment.
Deuteronomy 9:18, 25 And I fell down before the Lord ... I did
neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins
... because the Lord had said he would destroy you.
   Isaiah 58:9

 H. Preparation to receive word from God.
   Deuteronomy 9:18, 25
   Isaiah 58:9

 I. Spiritual deliverance.
Isaiah 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chose? To
loose the bands ... to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the
oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Mark 9:29 (Matthew 17:21) And he said unto them, This kind
can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

 J. Seeking assistance in time of fear.
II Chronicles 20:3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself
to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast ...

 K. Mourning another's death (II Samuel 1:12; 3:35); out of concern for
another's safety (Daniel 6:18); or when faced with threats on
 one's own life (Esther 4:3; 9:1-3).

 L. Seeking protection.
   Ezra 8:21-23

 M. Lacking material provision; in need.
II Corinthians 11:27 ... in watchings often, in hunger and
 thirst, in fastings often ...

Fasting is an extremely valuable and important facet of the Christian
life; but it is not an infallible means of getting what we want from
 God.

[JOYnet] LESSONS FROM NOAHS ARK

2001-08-29 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

LESSONS FROM NOAHS ARK

1. Don't miss the boat.
2.Remember that we are all in the same boat.
3. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.
4. Stay fit. When you're 600 yrs old, someone may ask you to do something
really BIG.
5. Don't listen to critics, just get on with the job that needs to be done.
6. Build your future on high ground.
7. For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
8. Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the
cheetahs.
9. When you're stressed, float a while.
10. Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs. the titanic by professionals.
11. No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow
waiting.
12. Always remember that Joan of Arc was not the wife of Noah's Ark!

FUNNY

Funny how a hundred rupees/pesos looks so big when you take it to
church, but so small when you take it to the mall. Funny how long two hours
spent at church are, but how short they are when watching a movie. Funny
how people want to get a front seat at any game or concert, but would rather
take a back seat at Church services. Funny how everyone wants to go to
heaven provided they do not have to believe, think, say or do anything.

[JOYnet] Happy Independence Day

2001-08-14 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Dear All,

It was the night of 14th August 1997, Indians all over were celebrating 50
years of Indian Independance. I was working in Kuwait then, but happened to
be on vacation that time. I was all set to make a grand celebration,
starting late in the evg. Started out with friends and went to a bar.
Finished at one place and then went to another bar. We were boozing, even as
it was midnight and there was shouting and dancing all around. India
completes 50 years of freedom. Finally when I reached my building I was
drunk, but not enough to go home and sleep. So I stood on the road and began
acting like a 'bhai' - that's the Mumbai word for a gangster. I stopped and
confronted a cab driver and then a car driver. The car driver was about to
charge on me, but I managed to keep things restricted to words and not
action.

[JOYnet] HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

2001-08-14 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Sorry guys, that was just the start earlier, here's the full thing.

The car driver was about to
charge on me, but I managed to keep things restricted to words and not
action. The night finally ended and it was the morning of 15th August.

As I recollected, I couldn't believe what had happened last night and
thought that it should have been a bad dream. But it wasn't and it was a
fact. I was terribly ashamed of myself and also knew that God had protected
me that night inspite of my acts. That was the time I decided to quit
drinking. I knew I couldn't do it and so I stepped down from whisky to beer
before I quit. It was around a year later in July '98 that I accepted Jesus
as my Lord and Saviour and committed myself to him. I was under the bondage
of booze and God set me free. 4 years back was the beginning of my
independence from alcohol. God has given me freedom from a sinful life and I
praise His name by the following verses:

But thanks be to God! For though at one time you were slaves to sin, you
have obeyed with all your heart the truths found in the teaching you
received. You were SET FREE FROM SIN and became the slaves of righteousness.
At one time you surrendered yourselves entirely as slaves to impurity and
wickedness for wicked purposes. In the same way you must now surrender
yourselves enitrely as slaves of righteousness for holy purposes. When you
were slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness. What did you gain
from doing the things you are now ashamed of? The result of those things is
death. But now you have been set free from sin and are slaves of God. Your
gain is a life fully dedicated to Him and the result is eternal life.
(Romans 5:17-22)

Praise Jesus that He has given us freedom from the slavery of sin. Even as
we celebrate the Indian Independence day, may God give us victory over the
evil one so that we will be true overcomers through Christ alone.

God Bless

George Fernandes.

[JOYnet] Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY

2001-08-08 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Dear All,

Thanks for your lovely messages wishing me for my birthday. Well the
celebration is this evg. with @ 20-25 people coming to my place. Physically
you might not make it but spiritually you can attend my b'day
celebration. There'll be a Bible Study and then dinner. I'll be sharing also
as its my birthday and this is what I'll be speaking about this evg.

The topic is LIFE

Where did we get our life from? From our parents. Ans where did they get it
from? Inevitably one goes back to Eden the creation of man. Gen.2:7
says,'And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground breathed into
his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul'.

If we look at the kinds of life, there are 3 kinds of life the Bible speaks
about.

1. Physical Life : which was given to man at the time of creation (see verse
above). Actually I am celebrating my physical birthday today. We are all
concerned of our physical life and we take care of our body well. We make
the most of our life and enjoy it with our fly. and friends.

2. SPIRITUAL LIFE: This is the second kind of life. John 4:24 says,'God is
spirit and His worshippers must worship in Spirit and in truth.'
Actually all religions talk about spiritual life. So whats the difference
between our worship and that of a Muslim, Hindu,...
I believe its the word TRUTH in the above verse. And what's this Truth. The
truth is JESUS. In John 14:6 Jesus says,I'm the Way, the Truth and the
Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus is our way to our
Father in heaven. Jesus is the truth without whom our worship is incorrect.
And by His death and resurrection He has given us a New Life. Actually we
all have a spiritual birthday also and that is the day when we accept Jesus
personally as our Lord and Saviour.

3. ETERNAL LIFE: You all know that I am not a citizen of Qatar, but I'm here
to work and earn well so that I can go back to my nation India and then
settle there. Similarly this earth is not our permanent settlement. We are
citizens of heaven(Phil.3:20) who are to use this life as an oppurtunity to
be eligible for the eternal life in heaven. Only Jesus and no one
else(Acts4:12) is our visa to heaven/eternal life so that we can testify
this:
'For we know that when this tent we live in - our body here on earth - is
torn down, God will have a house in heaven for us to live in, a home He
Himself has made, which will last forever.'

The Purpose of Life?
To conclude I have a question. Where do you wish to spend eternity? There
are 2 great eternities. We must choose one or the other. There is no neutral
ground.
1.The blessed privilege of living forever with the Lord Jesus in heaven.
2.The terrible anguish of living forever with Satan in a burning hell.
The purpose of Life is to let you personally choose the abiding place of
your soul.

Thank you very much for reading my friends. May be it was a bit long for
reading, but u see I'm going to speak it out this evg which will take, I
guess @10 mins.

May God lead you.

George Fernandes.

[JOYnet] What's the temperature right now?

2001-08-01 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Hi All!

Its hot and humid here in the Gulf. How's the weather in US, India,... .
Well I can feel the mercury rising high in Joynet right now. I guess we need
to cool down.

Its encouraging to see people express themselves freely and defend their
views regarding alcohol. If there are 2 different views (no drinking vs.
moderate drinking) all of us have one common view - we are all against
drunkeness. Now that's unity. So then what can be done unitedly. Remember a
recent mail ASAP(always say a prayer). Why can't we pray for each other.

Those who are for abstinence(no drinking), pray that those who are drinking
will never get drunk and will lose interest in drinking. Also pray that
their moderate drinking will not lead someone else to drinking. Also pray
that alcohol will have no place in your lives.

Those who are for temperance(moderate drinking), pray that those who don't
drink will never drink(if u agree to it).

Please note that this mail is not a bottomline to end the discussion. I
would only suggest that personal criticism should be avoided.
For example someone can criticise me by saying 'How can someone write about
temperature when the topic being discussed is drinking'. If I read this
line, I'll understand that you are talking about me, I'll get the message u
are trying to convey and also my point will be criticised without my name
being mentioned. I feel this way no one might get hurt.
PS: In the mail above, drinking refers to alcohol consumption.

Thanks and to God be all the glory.

[JOYnet] Tithing

2001-07-29 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Dear All,

I'm blessed by the ongoing discussion on tithes. I would like to put forth
my opinion which for some people might be a bit different.

Well I need not put many verses about tithes as there were a lot of verses
quoted already. Allow me to put few. In Deut.12:6 it has been told There
bring your burnt offerings and sacrifices, your tithes and special gifts
what you have vowed to give your free will offerings, and the firstborn of
your herd and flocks. Here we see about tithes and 5 other offerings. Now
lets go to verse 1 of the same chapter.

Deut.12:1These are the decrees and LAWS you must be careful to follow in
the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given u to possess as
long as you live in the land. I have put caps for my point here. I believe
that in the old testament, under the law, they gave a tithe -- one tenth of
their income. The tithe was holy unto the Lord Lev. 27:30 and did not belong
to the person. If we follow the Law in one aspect we have to keep it
completely because Galatians 3:10 says 'Those who depend on obeying the Law
live under a curse. For the scripture says, whoever does not always obey
everything that is written in the book of the law is under God's curse!

We are not under the Law today. But we are under grace which is a covenant
of love. Which is stronger, the power of law or the power of love? Its true
that love is greater, and WE OUGHT TO GIVE MORE THAN A TENTH. If out of Law
its 10% out of love it has to be more, because it'll justify our love to the
Lord and for His kingdom. Friends, I refrain to use the word tithe, as I
feel that it has something to do with the law. I only use the word offerings
and am convinced that we should give more than 10% and I do so. Why can't we
say that I gave to the Lord, instead of using terms as tithe offerings, love
offerings, vow offerings, etc.

Thanks.
George Fernandes

RE: [JOYnet] Some quick introduction

2001-07-23 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Hi All!

Thanks Welchy for the encouraging introduction. Its been a month since I
joined Joynet and its been a great inspiration to me. I believe that God has
a purpose why we are on the Joynet mailing list. 'because God is always at
work in you to make to willing and able to obey his own purpose.' Phil.2:13.

I've been in Qatar for 3 and half years prior to which I was in Kuwait for
4 years. I stay here with my wife Minial and cute little daughter Jennifer.
Basically I'm from Chembur-Mumbai. I have a desire to grow spiritually and
to learn the word of God more. I'm always open for spiritual correction and
prefer that people correct me with Biblical references because what you and
I say can change tommorrow, but the word of God is the same forever.

Just as I have a desire to grow spiritually, I like to workout for my body
in the gymnasium during most of the evenings.
I thank God for the blessings he has showered on me and my family.

May God bless you all abundantly.

George.

  Hi,
I would like to have a small say on Born-Again. And
please forgive me if i am wrong.

 Jesus said You must be born again John 3:3;
Yes, everyman must be born again. I believe that by
simply telling that u belong to a Born-again Sect does
not make u born-again. Jesus himself gives us the
answer as to how to be born-again.
I DO AGREE WITH YOU JANNET AND MORE SO WITH THE VERSE BELOW.

Except a man be born of water and of the spirit, he
cannot enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:5.

You must be born of the water and the spirit.
You are first physically born into the world. Then u
must be born of the water when u r baptised. You shed
behind ur older self and become a new person when u r
baptised because u r cleansed of the sins with which u
were born with. (TRUE - EPH.4:22-24)
Then u have to be born with the
spirit. This happens when we personally accept Jesus
Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Before Jesus'
Ascension he had breathed the Holy Spirit to all his
followers assembled in the room. All of them had
believed that Jesus was their saviour. And it was the
strength of this spirit that helped them to preach the
 Good News to everyone.(TRUE - ACTS 1:8)
So when we accept Jesus as our
Lord and Saviour he will send us the power of the Holy
Spirit. This power can come in many ways. God will
choose to give which and to whom. Please read through
1Corinthians 12:1-11. (GIFTS FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT)
And take note of 1Cor 12:11 But
all these worketh that one and the self-same
Spirit, dividing into everyman severally as HE WILL
And again the faith to remain in Jesus is also given
by the same spirit as is said in 1 Cor 12:9 To
another faith by the same spirit
(I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU COZ YOU HAVE QUOTED THE RIGHT VERSES.
WHEREVER YOU HAVEN'T, I'VE PUT THE REFERENCE. ITS BETTER TO TRUST IN GOD'S
WORD THAN MANS WORD. REGARDING FAITH I'D SAY THAT WE ALL MUST HAVE FAITH IN
GOD. HEBREWS 11:6 SAYS,' WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD,...' )
GEORGE.

I hope now u can understand how a grown up man can be
born again. There must be somebody who can help u much
 better.
And if i am wrong anywhere please do correct me.

 Thanks
 Love in Jesus

Jose has raised an important question here.

I too would like to put up a question regarding the
  same. But before that
  I'll put some verses here.
Ephesians 4:3-6 says, 'Do your best to preserve the
  unity which the spirit
gives by means of the peace that binds you together.
  There is one body and
one spirit, just as there is one hope to which God
  has called you. There is
one Lord, one faith, one baptism; there is one God
  and Father of all people,
who is Lord of all, works through all, and is in
  all.

We see that we have one Father for all and we are to
  preserve our unity or
should I say we are supposed to be united. By we I
  mean all those who
believe in Christ and are his followers. So why
don't we see one body of
Christ. Why are there so many denominations? The
  Bible tells us to be
seperated from darkness, but not from each other.
  The body is not complete
  unless all are together.

Lets look at what Jesus has prayed for us in John
  chapter 17. Read the full
chapter when you open the Bible, but I type here
  verses 2021 I pray not
only for them, but also for those who believe in me
  because of their
message. I pray that they may all be one. Father!
May they be in us, just as
you are in me and I am in you. May they be one, so
  that the world will
  believe that you sent me.

Friends, Jesus has prayed for all those who believe
in Him to be one. But
its a fact that we have so many denominations/sects.
  Where did they come
from? Its true that there are differences in
  doctrines between sects, but
are they based on the Bible. Can someone show in the
  Bible where is
  Catholic, Presbytarian, Methodist, Adventist, etc...

Jose has written about Billy Graham being from the
  born again sect. Hey I
know that Jesus has used the word born again in John
  3:3. Jesus answered, I
am telling you the truth: no one can see the kingdom
  of God, without being
born again. Why did Jesus say that? How can a
  grown man be born
again-This is exactly what Nicodemus asked Jesus.
  Again I quote what Jesus
said in Jon3:67 'A person is born physically of
  human parents, but is born
spiritually of the Spirit. Do not be surprised
because I tell you that you
must all be born again.' What I say here is being
  born again is Biblical and
its also following what Jesus has himself

2001-07-05 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Dear Friends,

May God's peace which is far beyond human understanding (Phillipians4:7) be
with you as you read this mail. I'm trying here to put forth what the Bible
says about our topic in discussion and not just saying something because of
what I feel.

I had quoted the verses John 3:36 18 in my previous mail. Now someone can
say that John was talking to the Jews or Christ was talking to Nicodemus and
that verse need not be applied to us. That way then someone else may say
that the 13 letters written by Paul will be for those particular people only
like Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, etc. This might lead us to ask hey,
where's the letter written for Indians or which part of the Bible is for us.
I stress the importance of Bible as it is the word of God for the people of
all generations.

Join me in reading II Timothy 3:15-16. ' And you remember that ever since
you were a child, you have known the Holy scriptures, which are able to give
you the wisdom that leads to Salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All
scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking
error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living.' In
verse 15 Paul says that Salvation is through faith in Christ Jesus. In verse
16 we can see that the Bible is inspired by God.

It is true that God's grace is for all and anyone/everyone can approach him,
BUT through Christ alone. Lets read Galatians 2:21where Paul says, 'I refuse
to reject the grace of God. But if a person is put right with God through
the Law, it means that Christ died for nothing!' So if someone says that by
leading a good life one can reach heaven, it will imply that Christ has died
for nothing. But the Bible says and we all agree that Christ is our
redeemer, our Lord and our Saviour. To Him be glory forever. Amen.

Speaking about those who have never heard about Christ, I'll say that just
as we have been brought to the knowledge of Christ, they also will be. How?
God's kingdom is expanding and reaching each and every corner of the world.
You too as an individual can contribute to it, by praying for it and for all
those who are preaching the good news about Christ.

Note: All the above verses are from Today's English Version Bible.

Thanks for reading and God Bless.

George.

 Hi All,

What if a lawyer brakes the law??? what the court will do???Punishment
will be to the maximumSo as we christins..we study law of lord's
 kingdom
through the Gospel...We have taken enrolment as the lawyers of the law of
lord by baptism and we do our refresher course by Holy mass. Even then we
 brake the law!!!..
But general men, even though they don't know the actual law by it's
 sections
and by section. they obey and practice it on moral grounds, That is enough
for the state(Holy Father) not to punish them - SALVATION is theirs too(by
 the blood of Lamb).
On the other hand it is the responsibility of the lawyers to make the
 public
aware of law - to preach the gospel ( not only by lengthy speech but by
daily practice). But where we stand as lawyers of the Kingdom of lord, We
don't know how to prepare a bail application for our brothers!! how to get
an anticipatory bail for ourself,if we violate the law,we prefer to go to
our hideouts instead of seeking the way of law and asking for the mercy of
God or at least refer the case to the Master Lawyer-JESUS.
Ha...one more thingIt is not accepted by the court, as an excuse for
 not
obeying the law, that one don't know the existence of a particular law.
So I think who don't violate the law obeys it and will be saved even if he
is not aware of the law in totality.

 Hi Jobin,
Like I said in my previous email, I don't think it is completely
 impossible
for a non Christian to be saved. But I also think there are advantages in

being a Christian because they know more about how God is going to judge
 the

people. The tribal guy can be saved if God is satisfied with the way he
lived on the earth based on what he knew.

Here is what I wrote before:

I think that we have no reason to judge whether somebody else is going to

 in

Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. It is entirely up to God to decide whether a

 believe

 that for Christians, who
came to know Jesus, denying or ignoring to believe in Jesus can be a
 reason
 to definitely not going to

[JOYnet] Abiding in Christ's Love

2001-06-28 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Abiding in Christ's Love (Remaining in Christ's Love)

A dimension of abiding in Christ is found in this verse. Just as the Father
has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love (John 15:9).

This is how we abide in Christ's love: If you keep My commandments, you
will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments, and
abide in His Love (John 15:10).

The finest illustration of this kind of abiding is found in the life of our
Lord Jesus Christ. His life was marked by a total submission and obedience
to the will of the Father (John 8:28-29).

One result of our obedience to our Lord's command is joy. Obedience brings
joy into our Christian experience as it did for our Lord: Fixing our eyes
on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand
of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2).

Not wishing to leave the imperative to abide in His love in abstract terms,
Jesus gives a very specific and practical example of the commandments of
which He speaks. This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as
I have loved you. The ultimate demonstration of love is about to be
witnessed by the disciples. Christ will lay down His life for His friends.
If the love of Christ is to be shown in His disciples, they must be willing
to give themselves to and for others.

I must repeat the story I heard of the man who was waxing eloquent to his
wife of how much he loved her. He told her he would even die for her. That
won't be necessary, she responded, unimpressed, just pick up that towel
and help me with these dishes. Few of us will be required to pay the
ultimate price of friendship. All of us should be willing to do so and to
show it in simple acts of sacrificial kindness.

The abiding of obedience results in an intimacy which cannot be experienced
in any other way. Abiding in Christ by obeying His commands changes our
relationship from that of slaves to that of friends (verse John 15:14-15).
The intimacy of friendship includes us in the inner circle of God, and here
our Lord makes known His secrets.

Abiding in Christ in its simplest terms is trusting our Lord and obeying His
word. There are no special techniques or formulas. It is as simple as our
belief and behavior. Abiding in Christ provides us with life and strength.
It is the only way to fruitfulness. Abiding in Christ assures us of answered
prayer and an intimacy with Christ.

God Bless you for reading this.

RE: [JOYnet] Salvation ?????

2001-06-26 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

 Hi

Seems like no one is willing to speak about this important Christian
topic. The good thing about Christian discussion is that the final say is
always with us and that's the Bible. Different people will have different
opinion, but we have to believe only what God says in his word.

Salvation is God's plan for mankind. Romans 3:23 says 'everyone has sinned
and is far away from God's saving presence'.
We all are sinners for which the penalty is death. Romans 6:23 says 'For
sin pays its wage - death; but God's free gift is eternal life in union
with Christ Jesus our Lord.' This verse shows that Jesus is our Saviour
 from death.

Lets see what Jesus says as to why he came to earth. Jesus says in John
10:10 '... I have come in order that you may have life - life in all its
 fullness.'

Also we can can see what Jesus says about being saved. Jesus says in John
10:9 ' I am the gate. Those who come in by me will be saved; ...'

Lets quickly read I John 5: 11-13 ' 11The testimony is this: God has given
us eternal life, and this life has its source in his Son.
12 Whoever has the Son has this life; whoever does not have the Son of God
does not have life. 13 I am writing this to you so that you may know that
you have eternal life - you that believe in the Son of God.'

So, if someone asks a question are you saved, say yes if you believe that
Jesus Christ is Lord and your personal saviour, because it is said in Acts
4:12 'Salvation is to be found through him(Christ) alone; in all the world
there is no one else whom God has given who can save us.'

Note: all the above verses are quoted from Today's English Version Bible.

God Bless you all for reading this mail.

[JOYnet] MONEY RICHES

2001-06-25 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

MONEY RICHES
When you find yourself wishing that your life were different, what
is it you wish for?
If you're like most people, you might wish for financial security.
If only my boss would reward my hard work and loyalty with a big raise or
bonus.
If only I could buy the lucky lotto ticket next week.
If only I could come up with an invention that would make me the
envy of the entrepreneurs and a sure-fire bet to light up the Nasdaq with an
dazzling IPO (Initial Public Offering).
Seeking priceless treasures
I'm not a fan of bumper-sticker theology, but recently I saw a
powerful retort to the familiar treatise, He who dies with the most toys...
Wins. It simply said: He who dies with the most toys... Still dies.
Money itself is not evil, but the LOVE OF MONEY is a blood-lust that can
never be satisfied. Look at I Timothy 6:17-19 for a better idea of the
priceless treasures we should be about the business of amassing - and giving
away.

[JOYnet] A Gift from The Lord

2001-06-25 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

  A Gift From The Lord
   By Chick Velasco

As she peered into the mirror
Her face looked pale and drawn
   All her youthful radiance
   Seemed forever gone

She felt no joy inside her heart
   Her peace had gone away
Replaced with only fear and dread
   Of what she faced today

It was only eight short weeks
   Since she turned twenty one
She had been so full of life
   And having so much fun

She had felt so much in love
   She'd hoped that very soon
Her guy would pop the question
And she'd be a bride by June

Then one day the Doctor called
There was a baby on the way
And when she told her boyfriend
   He packed and moved away

   He didn't want a baby
So he told her what to do
   She must abort the baby
Or the two of them were through

Though he'd said he loved her
   The day she'd given in
She had known her choice was wrong
It was nothing more than sin

She had turned her back on God
   And set her faith aside
Now her life was such a mess
She wished that she could hide

Now once again she'd given in
   The pressure was too great
So she had called the clinic
   To set the fateful date

   Staring at this looking glass
   She'd never felt so sad
But soon this would be over
And he no longer would be mad

The time had come for her to go
   She got into her car
She drove slowly to the clinic
   It wasn't very far

The day was dark and gloomy
   There fell a misty rain
   The weather seemed to understand
As if it felt her pain

As she pulled into the parking lot
   Her mind began to swirl
As she wondered if her baby
Was a little boy or girl

She felt a tug inside her heart
As she stepped inside the door
   No one saw the teardrop
As it splattered on the floor

She signed in at the window
And then she took a seat
   So consumed with loneliness
As she stared down at her feet

When they took her to the room
It seemed so damp and cold
She wished that she could turn and run
   But she wasn't feeling bold

As she lie upon the table
She heard a small still voice
You must leave this evil place
You must make a different choice

   She began a silent prayer
Dear Lord, Where have you been
   My life's become a nightmare
And I need you once again

   Once again that gentle voice
You have turned your back on me
But I have never left you
Since the day I set you free

   My child, you are rebellious
Your path is paved with sin
Now you lie upon a table
In the heart of Satan's den

   The voice continued speaking
This thing you do is wrong
The baby is my gift to you
   I've planned it all along

If you'll put your faith in Me
   I will see you through
The way may not be easy
But I will always be with you

   Exercise your faith in Me
For I AM still the same
I will help you raise this baby
And I will glorify my name

I AM the one who loves you
   More than you could know
Now you must get dressed again
It's time for us to go

When the Doctor came into the room
   He only found a note
   Written in a hasty scrawl
   This is what she wrote

   Thank you for your trouble
   Your staff was very kind
I have spoken with the Bridegroom
And I have changed my mind

   I shall keep my baby
I will raise him 'till he's grown
   I will glorify my Savior
He still counts me as His own
