Went to the ER last Sunday with nausea and numbness in my left arm and
leg.

After a mini-stroke was ruled out, a stress test on Monday showed a couple
of blockages in the ticker. Angioplasty and stents on Tuesday and
Wednesday, released on Thursday.

Recovered enough to drive around and run errands on Friday and Saturday.
Will be home for a week recuperating.

Five days in a hospital bed have left my back aching, so I'm resting
up and

doing stretching exercises.

Brother, can you spare a Tylenol?

When your GPS receiver calculates where you are, it calculates in three
dimensions by measuring the time delays from three or more satellites. To
do that, it has to know the exact time where you are.

Re: [MBZ] Sickbay Report

2016-07-28 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes

Aren't stents a wonderful thing?

Me, I'm lucky -- ended up in the hospital last year on Easter Sunday
with severe congestive heart failure (EF 10-15%, for those of you who
know what that is). Long, slow recovery, but was released by the
cardiologist back to my primary care doctor this week as I'm pretty
much back to normal.

He thinks it was a viral infection that attacked the heart -- he's
seen cases where people go from feeling bad to almost dead (worse than
me) to complete recovery in a couple weeks.

Anyway, I had a wonderful cardiac cath (most of which I slept through)
and have perfectly clean arteries, no plaque at all. I must have
inherited the appropriate genes from my mother's side, as my father
was dead at 51 from severe coronary artery disease, myocardial
disease, and a heart attack. I appear to have minimal to no risk of a
heart attack, although I'm staying on the beta blocker due to high BP.

Glad you are feeling better.

What are the male buffaloes good for then? They can't be milked, unless
what they yield is like a naturally occurring cial*s.

A buddy of mine ended up with some number of water buffaloes. It is
actually a pretty funny story. I can't remember all the details but
it involved a guy who had like 20 of the things he was going into the
mozarella cheese business and needed some place to keep them. This was
like 4 or 5 years ago, maybe 6. My buddy has cattle he raises for
beef for restaurants around here, and his farm is along the river, so
for whatever rent he said sure he would keep them and do whatever with
them, they can hang out in the river or ponds or whatever.

So time goes by and the guy is not dealing with the WBs, then goes
dark, not paying anything and can't be reached. Some months pass and
he calls up and says he has found another place for them, so he says
he'll come and get some to take wherever. My buddy notices a few
days later seems like there are more around so he counts them and is
totally like WTF is going on, there's more of them now than there were
before. Seems rather than picking them up the guy dropped off more
that he had been keeping somewhere else. So now there's like 30-35 of
them hanging around, and the guy disappears again. Plus I think they
started reproducing, there might have been a bull or two in the mix
along in there at some point, or he brought them or something.

Then some other guy from Georgia calls and says he has bought them,
some number of them, and wants to come get them. My buddy by then is
like come get every one of the damn things, I'm tired of fooling with
them. So the guy shows up with a tractor trailer, and starts loading
then says he only bought 20 or 25 of them, he can't deal with the
others, thank you very much. So my buddy now has a bunch of the
things around still, and reproducing. They are pretty big, and fairly
docile but stupid, so he just kinda lets them hang out with his other
cattle. He might have sold some or something but apparently the
market is fairly limited to cheese producers and there aren't too many
in that bidness. I'm not sure they're any good for eating or they
would be on menus around here. I don't think anyone else wants to
milk them so they just do whatever cows do. You go over there and
drive through the fields, and there are these big water buffaloes and
babies hanging around in the pastures and the woods and whatnot, mixed
in with his regular cattle, it's pretty funny, looks like Vietnam or
some damn place.

It's work - but not necessarily _that_ much.

If only 10 of that 20 acres is in pasture, and there is a
water source, the cows could be just fine for weeks. Or
months. Unless the coyotes get them. Or the cougars. Or
they get sick. But they don't need daily attention. If so,
all the guys running cows around here would have no stock.

In short, if your TB is configured for imap, it will pull in
everything. If TB is configured for POP3, it will pull mail on the
server, but you will need to manually import files from your TB.

Postbox is a available for winders or Mac. I am using it on Mac OS

I considered buying outlook for Mac, but the price kept driving me away,
along with the difficulty of managing outlook. (loss of email, Etc)
Postbox is way easier to manage.

Thanks Curley! Finally an expert on email! I used Outlook for years
then it stopped working then I went to Thunderbird. I like the
flexibility of Outlook. Now it appears TB is becoming too much of a
chore so I think i'll give Postbox a try. Think i can import T'bird
emails? I use email heavily in my oil analysis business so it's
important i maintain a email presence.

If Postbox has a free trial I willl o ahead and see if I like it.
Thanks for the suggestions.

While it *will* eventually shift itself, it expects you to treat it like a

It looks like one of these in each panel will do the trick:

Or one of these specifically on the AC unit circuit:

https://www.amazon.com/Eaton-BR230SUR/dp/B00JV3EIG4

Not sure that will deal with voltage swings but if the issue is
spikes/surges these should trip off the units or the whole panel?

So at the water board meeting this morning our engineer was talking
about some problems in the distribution system, seems as though a
coupla weeks ago in the early morning the SCADA system started
sending alarms, which woke her up, sensors on our 3 tanks were all
over the place then one failed. Looked like a power hit but there
were no storms in the area, so it was the powerco sending out trash
power, voltage up and down, surges, etc. which blew a $900 sensor on
the tank that is pretty much across the road from my vast estate.

The manager of the other system on Seabrook Island, just down the
road, said they were getting voltage readings on a 480V line of
420-540V, all over the map, and that they lost a well pump (2300ft in
the hole) they are going to have to pull and replace for $3k.

I said, when was that again? It was exactly the time my AC unit
board blew out, and we are on the same circuit as the water tank, and
Seabrook feed off the same substation that is just down the road, so
the powerco's shitty power blew out my $500 control board, the water
cos' $900 sensor and $3k pump. I wonder how many others lost
electronics that night?

She says the powerco won't guarantee clean power on the Island, so we
are all pretty much screwed on the cost of the equipment. Nice. So I
need to look at getting some surge protectors on my AC units (220V
30A circuits) -- are there line surge protectors I can wire in at the
shutoffs by the units? Or at the panel?

I guess I need to get some little UPSs or surge protectors for my TVs
and stereo equipment too. I have been thinking about that anyway as
there are lightning hits around quite often, so that makes sense, and
now with the AC unit.

9RLS3 3/4 ton single zone 33 SEER $1585

Note that four 9000BTU 23 SEER cost $800 more at ACWholesalers than
one 18 SEER 36,000BTU outdoor unit with four 9000 BTU indoor units.
But if you have a controller board failure, you still have three

Larry, Look at Postbox email software. It is $20 after you try it out

Go the JC route: Buy a used humongus APC UPS for cheep. Buy some
batteries to make it work. Wire it in as a whole house (estate) unit.
Less costly over the long run than a bunch of UPSs/surge protector.
one other route is what they call a buckbooster. It is basically a big
box (transformer and probably capacitors) that cleans up the line voltage

(JC in this case is Cathey)

This was/is a very common problem in Hawaii and in turd world countries.

And yes, you can buy new surge protectors for each unit. Trot on down
to your friendly local electric supply.

Floyd Thursby via Mercedes

So at the water board meeting this morning our engineer was talking
about some problems in the distribution system, seems as though a
coupla weeks ago in the early morning the SCADA system started sending
alarms, which woke her up, sensors on our 3 tanks were all over the
place then one failed. Looked like a power hit but there were no
storms in the area, so it was the powerco sending out trash power,
voltage up and down, surges, etc. which blew a $900 sensor on the tank
that is pretty much across the road from my vast estate.

The manager of the other system on Seabrook Island, just down the
road, said they were getting voltage readings on a 480V line of
420-540V, all over the map, and that they lost a well pump (2300ft in
the hole) they are going to have to pull and replace for $3k.

I said, when was that again? It was exactly the time my AC unit board
blew out, and we are on the same circuit as the water tank, and
Seabrook feed off the same substation that is just down the road, so
the powerco's shitty power blew out my $500 control board, the water
cos' $900 sensor and $3k pump. I wonder how many others lost
electronics that night?

She says the powerco won't guarantee clean power on the Island, so we
are all pretty much screwed on the cost of the equipment. Nice. So I
need to look at getting some surge protectors on my AC units (220V 30A
circuits) -- are there line surge protectors I can wire in at the
shutoffs by the units? Or at the panel?

I guess I need to get some little UPSs or surge protectors for my TVs
and stereo equipment too. I have been thinking about that anyway as
there are lightning hits around quite often, so that makes sense, and
now with the AC unit.

180F is 82C which I'd consider right on. What were you thinking? All
my MBs when they were working right would sit the temp just over the
80c mark.

It never gets much higher than that and we have had 95+F recently.
My wife drives approx 32 min RT to/from work and she only hits 1 or 2
traffic lights along the way. So the speeds are mostly around 45-60mph

I didn't use a MB Radiator (the original had a broken upper
nozzle). Is it likely that's the problem? It's alum with upper and
lower plastic sections and seemed to match exactly.

What else should I look at?

Wow - I never knew IR TStats were so inexpensive! On ebay they are $10 on up!
I'm gonna have one soon ;-)

Hey Curly, I am happy to be back! I a still fighting my email program. I have
used Mozilla Thunderbird for quite a while and it frustrates me more every day!
So now I am using my XFinity email (which I hate) because it works. But it is
not flexible at all. Anyway, thanks for the kind words.
I replaced all the cooling system parts - the T Stat is new as is the radiator
and pump. It almost never budges above the 100C mark - which is what I think
the mark above 80C is - and it's not using any coolant, But it bugs me that it
used to run at 80C all the time (or a hair above it) and it no longer does.
Maybe the gauge is off a little? I'll have to check prices of IR T-Stats.

Stuck or not opening all the way thermostat would be my guess.

But if Larry has a IR thermometer, he can take temps at all areas of the
radiator just after stopping fmor a highway run, with the engine
running. That will tell a lot.

You also use the IR thermometer to verify the sender/gauge is reading
correctly.

Good to hear from you again Larry! Don't be scarce!

Re: [MBZ] OT HVAC issue

2016-07-28 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
So at the water board meeting this morning our engineer was talking
about some problems in the distribution system, seems as though a coupla
weeks ago in the early morning the SCADA system started sending alarms,
which woke her up, sensors on our 3 tanks were all over the place then
one failed. Looked like a power hit but there were no storms in the
area, so it was the powerco sending out trash power, voltage up and
down, surges, etc. which blew a $900 sensor on the tank that is pretty
much across the road from my vast estate.

The manager of the other system on Seabrook Island, just down the road,
said they were getting voltage readings on a 480V line of 420-540V, all
over the map, and that they lost a well pump (2300ft in the hole) they
are going to have to pull and replace for $3k.

I said, when was that again? It was exactly the time my AC unit board
blew out, and we are on the same circuit as the water tank, and Seabrook
feed off the same substation that is just down the road, so the
powerco's shitty power blew out my $500 control board, the water cos'
$900 sensor and $3k pump. I wonder how many others lost electronics
that night?

She says the powerco won't guarantee clean power on the Island, so we
are all pretty much screwed on the cost of the equipment. Nice. So I
need to look at getting some surge protectors on my AC units (220V 30A
circuits) -- are there line surge protectors I can wire in at the
shutoffs by the units? Or at the panel?

I guess I need to get some little UPSs or surge protectors for my TVs
and stereo equipment too. I have been thinking about that anyway as
there are lightning hits around quite often, so that makes sense, and
now with the AC unit.
