[MLO] Re: Can't seem to find how to convert back to MLO 5

2023-03-02 Thread Joel
File menu>Save as> choose the save as type to be MLO5.
uninstall MLO6 and open that file with MLO5.
Beware that upgrading to MLO6 breaks your ability to archive and requires
exporting to xml format and re-importing.
Something I haven't gotten around to doing because it's a bit of a crap
show.

Be prepared for reminders to upgrade everytime you open this program.

Re: [MLO] Dashboard

2023-02-27 Thread Joel
I have the same problem and the advanced filter trick didn't do anything
for me.
I've since rolled back to MLO5. I'll take another look at MLO6 later on.
Hopefully the features will get sorted out.

For those doing this rollback, you will need to set a new archive directory
because it will have become MLO6 only.

Regarding the Dashboard, does anyone know how to hide finished tasks or to
zoom into a folder? This is an absolute must for this tool to be of any
use to me.
I cannot find anything in the help files. I'm looking for any reason to
buy this new upgrade but so far it's been frustration.

[MLO] recurring tasks problem

2023-02-09 Thread Joel
I struggle with using MLO for daily repetitive tasks. I have a problem
where I set tasks to reoccur every day. This works until I miss a day and
accidently dismiss the reminder then I don't get notified every again.
Sometimes this goes un-noticed for embarrassingly long periods of time and
I clearly need a better solution.

Before I start looking at calendar reminders from other platforms I thought
I'd check here. Does anyone have a working solution that would still
remind me if I forget a day?

[MLO] Re: MLO 6 no more then a 5.X

2023-01-04 Thread Joel
I actually feel the same way. I wanted to support the team due to the
situation in Ukraine but at the same time, version 6 had to be worth the
jump. I love the dark mode which helps my eyes but to be honest, I won't
personally be using the dashboard features so all I feel like I really got
out of version 6 was the dark mode, really. A bit disappointed as well.

There should be but unfortunately no. Been wanting this myself for quite
some time. If the desktop syncs with Google Calendar, the mobile apps aught
to as well, IMO. Makes the workflow awkward to work with when only the
desktop syncs to it but not the mobile apps.

Re: [MLO] MLO-Win v6 Ideas...

I would also add a vote for richer text view and I support / prefer
markdown.

@dwight, many forums already solve this fairly elegantly, see for example
Reddit and I would favor an implementation like that too.

[MLO] Re: Suspended project tasks still appear in active actions

2022-03-25 Thread Joel
Great, glad it worked for you :)

Personally I don't move projects. I leave them in-situ and mark the
top-level item of the project both Suspended and Hide in To do but part of
my reason for that is that I rely heavily on inherited contexts so moving
things around can sometimes add more complication than it solves.

One thing about MLO is that there are always a dozen ways to skin any given
cat.

Another way to do this if your entire project is contained in one branch of
a tree is to march the branch as "hide in todo"
That should make everything beneath inactive.

[MLO] Re: Status post: Situation in Ukraine

2022-03-01 Thread Joel
It is a shocking thing in the 21st century. Well wishes for your safety
MLO team and for Ukraine's safety and success.
I hope the rest of the world (US included) hurries the up and steps up
to arm and support Ukraine in every way possible. I find it an
embarrassment the US moved slowly and has been deaf for the past 2
decades. It's even more an embarrassment that there are those in my party
that praise and hang on Putin's nuts. Bunch of sycophants and whiny
children that don't know what a real oppression is. Those who don't learn
from history and all that.

God speed to Ukrainians and Zelenski who have shown the world a LOT about
fortitude. An inspiration to all in the free world. I wish you safety but
also kick the shit out of that commie dictator f***hole and I hope more of
the world comes to your aid.

May this end quickly.

Good luck MLO team, good luck to Ukraine.

Re: [MLO] Is there ever going to be a web app for MLO?

2021-10-21 Thread Joel
He'd have to have two separate systems then. Keep what there is now for
those who want it and have the web version for those who want it.

All I know is there was a web version of MLO, if it were possible, that
is, it would do well because other former (or maybe current?) users of MLO
are in the forums for other apps like TickTick and ClickUp making requests
for features that MLO already has. It's only a matter of time until what
Andrey is offering is easily found online. Regardless, I've got to move to
something else that doesn't keep me restricted to the desktop or key fob
because I use the calendar sync and the mobile apps don't have it.

[MLO] Re: Why do tasks in a suspended project show up as active actions / next actions?

2021-08-02 Thread Joel
Steph,
Indeed this can be addressed in the views as you suggest but two things:

a) as I pointed out, sometimes I'm working in the native tree (full
outline) and that's where I want to work, not in a view.
b) If this change affects just 1/4 of my typical daily views (and it may be
more like 1/2) that's 5 views I have to modify and maintain.
   1. If I make new/other views, it's yet one more parameter I have to
remember to enforce.
   2. If I have other, less-often used views I may not update them promptly
or remember when needed causing me confusion or even frustration. None of
which is desirable.

This could be reasonable as a workaround but I have to regard it as just a
workaround.

I believe Project Status should be user configurable and should dictate the
status of a project (eg. active or not.) It is a logical extension of the
feature and imo good for the workflow.

[MLO] Re: Duplicate Task in Two Places

2021-07-30 Thread Joel Azaria
Not as complicated as you think as it's been done already and for decades.

1 very pervasive example is computer file systems (mostly Linux though Mac
and Windows have it too, just more obscured from view to the typical
end-user).

A file system after all is just a tree, exactly as our outlines are. File
systems like that support a concept called "links" There are "soft links"
and "hard links" which have some differences but the TLDR is that they act
as virtual pointers to another part of the tree / file system. To use
your example:

>>>Project 1
project 1 task 1
project 1 task 2
>LINK>project 2 task 1
>>>Project 2
project 2 task 1
project 2 task 2

Project 2 Task 1 (and it's descendants) will SHOW under Project 1 even
though it may ultimately "live" under >>>Project 2. The link is, in
effect, a virtual "doorway" to the other location. This does not violate
the integrity of the tree structure in any way and, as I've said, tree
structures like Linux's EXT3, EXT4, Mac's HPFS, Windows' NTFS, as well as
ZFS, BTRFS, and other high performance file systems have done this for
literally DECADES. This is not uncharted territory.

There are multiple use cases where I've wanted/needed this functionality.
Contexts are not a substitute as there are times that something belongs in
the tree in multiple places, not just "presented" that way in a flat
viewport. This is usually a project planning or overview situation but
I've encountered it in other places.

Another simplified example might be a shopping destination that exists both
in your work and home tree structs. I can go to Home Depot for either
reason. I don't want two separate "Home Depot" nodes (with their
associated contexts, etc.) to live in two places. I want "Home Depot"
avail in two places so I can list my work stuff here and my home stuff
there. Yes, I will use a view based on Contexts for actually SHOPPING but
for PLANNING, I want HD in two places in the tree.

Is there a workaround on this?

In my case, I have a folder for Morning Routine. There are a great many

 folders/projects as well.

 Any help appreciated.

[MLO] Why do tasks in a suspended project show up as active actions / next actions?

2021-07-30 Thread Joel Azaria
As the title. I have projects that are marked suspended yet tasks under it
show up in my next actions list as active. I think this should not be. I
expect projects marked Suspended or Completed should have their children
inactive.

*Sidebar but while on the topic *- Also request another project status
called "Closed" or "Cancelled" to distinguish Projects completed
successfully/fully vs those that have stalled or died (eg. ran out of
funding, client cancelled next phase, etc. Basically reasons that may be
in or out of my control but which project stops not fully completed. It
would behave the same as Completed or Suspended in that any tasks under
that project should inherit inactivity.

Joel.

Re: [MLO] Re: Show list of all open workspace

2021-05-16 Thread Joel
Yeah ditto. I routinely have EXACTLY as many tabs as will fit and still
kinda see the tab names. Iow, I'm constrained.
A little hamburger menu that drops open with all the tab names (clickable)
would be great.A field to filter-as-you-type the tab names list would
be excellent.

Re: [MLO] Re: Incremental search breaks after a character repeats

2021-05-14 Thread Joel Azaria
afaik that's not how it works. If you just start typing characters in the
outline view it just jumps to the next instance of that character. So if
you hit 's' three times you'll just bounce through the next three items
starting with 's'.
There is a filter function - ctrl + L - which filters the current tab/view
and a Find funtion - ctrl + F - which will search globally in your .ml
file. These both work as you expect.

[MLO] Re: Win key shortcut to switch to MLO not working (and now working)

2021-05-12 Thread Joel
I've used Win + ` (left side of keyboard, under ESC, same key as ~)
Used this key combo since as long as I can remember w/o issue. Works well
for me because it's left hand one-handed and actually easy by feel, not
just looking.
Try it out.

Are you referring to the *search* (ctrl+F) or to the *filter* (ctrl+L) ?

I tried both and could not recreate the problem. Search for "loo" and

FYI I am on 5.1.2 beta so maybe this actually an issue and was addressed

Re: [MLO] Re: Dark theme/dark mode for the Windows version

2021-01-24 Thread Joel
I find dark mode very helpful on my eyes. However, usually dark mode is
implemented in most apps as a feature that can be turned on and off, not
something that is permanent. For the apps that I use that have implemented
it, every one of them has offered it as an option that needs to be turned
on. I'm sure Andrey knows that not everyone will want it. After all, he
made it optional in the mobile app.

[MLO] Who here uses MLO for both personal and work? If so...

2021-01-13 Thread Joel
Hey guys, I'm trying to use it for both my personal life projects and
tasks and for work. However, I have a small problem and I'm wondering if I
need to change my set up. I created two folders in MLO, one title
'Personal' and the other 'Work'. I have one tab in MLO for my personal and
one for work so that I can focus on one or the other. Once I'm working, I
move to the Work tab.

The only problem with this setup is that tasks that are entered in the
Inbox through the mobile app or by Rapid Task Entry get filtered out in my
views because the Inbox doesn't exist in either. So, when I go to my Today
view for work, for example, any tasks that I add to the inbox throughout
the day and are dated for today won't show.

Is there another way to do this? I change over to work because my work and
personal life don't mix at all like other people's may. Anyone else use MLO
for both personal and work and if so, what kind of setup do you use to
avoid this problem?

Thanks.

Joel

[MLO] Feature Request: Would like to have time increments for reminders

2020-10-27 Thread Joel
I don't know if this has already been requested but it would be nice, if in
version 5 or in the next version of MLO, we could have the option to add
reminders to tasks using time increments like other apps such as Google
Calendar has. That is, instead of setting a specific time, I can just set
the reminder to go off 10 minutes before the task is due. A default for
tasks would be nice as well so when I set a reminder, I don't have to
manually set 10 minutes for every one. I use this in Google Calendar and it
works great. Would like to see it come to MLO as well.

[MLO] MLO needs to sync periodically

2020-09-19 Thread Joel
Earlier today I created a task to do something with a reminder to go off at
2pm in MLO on my mobile phone. Probably about an hour or two later, when I
was using the desktop version, I changed the reminder to go off at 4pm
instead of 2pm.

So, I've been sitting here working at my desk for about an hour and a half
and the reminder on my phone goes off. It's the 2pm reminder that I had
initially set. I looked at MLO on my PC and it says that the reminder will
go off at 4pm so why am I getting a reminder 2pm on my phone? Because MLO
on my phone doesn't periodically sync. There needs to be a better solution
for this.

Re: [MLO] Re: Any plan to release Mac version through Catalina / Project Catalyst?

2020-09-03 Thread Joel
People refer to them as the "MLO team" but I get the impression that there
are only two people involved - Andrey and Alyona. If I'm wrong on that then
by all means correct me but I think because of this, I don't think they'll
be able to add a Mac version with his business model. He would have to hire
developers and probably go to a subscription model to bring in the kind of
revenue to do that.

Even though the error says invalid key this could possibly be a

Also, google forums are not the only place to find assistance. You might
get better/faster help at stackoverflow. Worth a shot and nothing to lose.

[MLO] Re: Any improvements coming with calendar sync?

2020-02-11 Thread Joel
As far as I'm concerned Calendar sync is a fail with MLO. I just now made
an adjustment to a task on Google Calendar, rescheduling a task from today
to tomorrow. I then synced to MLO and MLO moved the task back to today so
not sure what happened there but I guess legacy apps like MLO can't sync
instantly to online calendars which is why I'm going to have to look for a
solution that's solely online. Ugh.

[MLO] Any improvements coming with calendar sync?

2020-02-10 Thread Joel
I've moved to using a time-blocking methodology but I hate how the calendar
sync in MLO keeps me desk bound to the desktop version. If I need to make
changes to my schedule in my calendar, I have to use the desktop version or
some workarounds.

Are there any developments coming that will add calendar sync to the mobile
versions? Perhaps an integrated calendar in MLO that will allow us to
time-block?

[MLO] Re: Not started project showing up as active action

2020-01-07 Thread Joel
Actually, this is how MLO works which really, active actions shouldn't show
for inactive projects. I came upon the same thing and this is something
that needs to be changed. That is, when a person makes a project inactive
by selecting "Not Started" in the Project properties box, the active
actions for that project should be hidden in the Active Actions list.
Doesn't make sense why we should have to both hide the project and mark it
"Not Started/In Progres". This would also apply to the "Suspended" status.
If it's suspended then the active tasks should be hidden.

[MLO] Re: Closing data file (Windows Desktop Version)

2019-12-03 Thread Joel
Different users use MLO in different (and sometimes surprising) ways.
Personally I'm with you on the 1 file idea but to each his own.

That said I've never butted up against this problem. I think if you just
don't *close the file* and instead *exit* MLO, you will avoid the issue.
MLO will open up next time with your last-open file already loaded.

[MLO] Re: Calendar events synced from gmail/outlook have incorrect reminder time. Is there any setting to change this?

2019-10-03 Thread Joel
The phone apps don't have calendar sync. Only the desktop does.

Makes me frustrated because there are a lot of times when I'm traveling and
have to make changes. I wish Andrey could find a way to add it to mobile
because I've been adding a lot of projects and tasks to Todoist which I
don't want to do but since I time-block my schedule in my calender and use
the Day View as my overview for the day, I have to. Love MLO but it's not
keeping up with the times, I'm afraid.

[MLO] Is there any way to lock the sort on columns?

2019-09-05 Thread Joel
Of of the things I liked about MLO 4 is that the task outline was static.
With MLO 5, I do like how we can click on the column titles and sort by
them but I have workspaces in which it is absolutely necessary to keep the
tasks in the original order, unsorted. Every so often I accidentally sort
the task columns when I unintentionally click the column titles. Just did
it a few minutes ago. Is there a way to lock the sort?

For Andrey specifically, if there is no way to lock the sort, can you add a
lock feature in MLO 5 that would keep this from happening? It would be
great to be able to lock the sort from being sorted when the column titles
are clicked.

[MLO] Re: How do I export my data from MLO Android?

David,
Desktop version has an Export option and exports to XML. I guess that's
overlooked in the Android version. I never actually looked for it there.
You might be able to get away with installing the desktop as a trial (30
days I think?), sync your profile and do an export from there.

[MLO] Re: Strategies for re-starting with MLO

2019-08-29 Thread Joel
Thanks all for some thoughtful replies.

Stephan, my system is in further disarray than that (idle probably 6+ mos)
and my problems span past just an unprocessed inbox. Appreciate the input
and ideas.

Susanah (and Wallace), thank you. Good thoughts and glad you've made
something work for you. I think our systems are a bit too fundamentally
different as what you describe would be a lot of fundamental changes to a
lot of my outline(s) and probably to a lot of my views as a result. I
could probably make it such that it would be able to continue to work after
"I'm clear" but it's more up front work than I can be "bothered" with right
now. I need the energy to get rebooted, not just to tinker with my system.
I feel your pain about reviews. I'm in the boat too, probably a multitudes
worse offender. Probably/partially as a result (and for better or worse)
my system is set up such that my "doing" views are pretty highly leveraged
on Contexts and my Inbox is *highly* structured to apply many contexts on
input. This makes it so that many tasks are ready for doing, and even
often get done, before they ever get processed out of the inbox. (think
within the same day and even within a couple days of getting input, eg when
inbox processing is "slow" or neglected.)

And finally, as I mentioned to Stephan, my stagnation sprawls far beyond
the inbox, into projects large and small. There's a metric crap-ton
(scientific term) of stuff that's just "expired" and can be purged but some
in there is probably important to follow up so I can't just purge
wholesale. Things lent & unreturned for example, other @waitingfor items,
commitments to some long term projects that may or not have blown up yet
(because I've been tending the project, but out of my head), sales pipeline
that may or not be dead (prob. more dead but still)

Dwight, I like your idea about stealing a field and using it for a grouping
and I'm playing with it. For the most part I can probably make it work
(Goal = Year I think). The problem I'm finding is that the grouping
doesn't seem to affect views with an outline (ie non-flat).
Any tricks for that or is that a limit I just have to live with?

Thanks all.

[MLO] Is MLO Cloud sync still unenctrypted?

2019-08-28 Thread Joel
I remember at a point past there was discussion about MLO Cloud Sync and
encryption and some portion was unencrypted. Not sure if it was data in
transit or maybe data at rest (on AWS ?)
I want to know if this has been resolved.

Or said another way - is MLO Cloud Sync data fully encrypted end to end?
While at rest on the cloud servers, in transit, and any/all uses near and
between?
What encryption(s) are used?

Thanks.

[MLO] Strategies for re-starting with MLO

2019-08-28 Thread Joel
So I think I'm not alone but maybe I am. Because 'reasons' I've fallen off
the wagon keeping up my GTD system. Have been a long-time mlo user (like
v2 or beginning of v3 I think) and have a fairly well formed system (for my
use) but it is now stale. When I say "fallen off the wagon" I mean I've
been keeping it all in my head. Now it's spilling onto post-it notes. Oh
fk, here we go again.
So it's clearly time to bootstrap myself and get back ON the wagon. Ok,
fine.

Foundation: There is a lot of stuff in my existing file. Some of it may
even still be relevant. Plenty I'm sure has passed, happened, been handled
or exploded. Nonetheless, there is a lot there.
Problem: How do I get started using my file again ensuring I see/deal with
new current items and not get flooded by the clutter of the 'old' stuff?
(at least till I can make some time and energy to start working through the
backlog of it)
I've started adding some items in and they are just washed out in the see
of overdue/older, higher prio, etc items that my views are fleshing out.

Any others have dealt with a start/stop event like this? What strategies
did you use?
I don't necessarily want to have to modify every one of my views
(eventually I'll need them back to "normal", right?) so looking for
thoughts.

All ideas welcome.

I'm on Windows and Android if that that helps/matters.

Thx.

[MLO] ANDROID FEATURE REQUEST: Better Today View

2019-08-25 Thread Joel
I personally don't find the Today view in the Android app that useful other
than having Today's tasks listed. To me it seems like it would be better if
the Today view could have been presented like that of the Day View in most
calendar apps like Google Calendar where you have the events and tasks
listed together, not in a divided view. You would essentially have your
Google Calendar events and MLO tasks displayed according to time and any
tasks without a time would show at the top as 'all day' events. Seems like
it would be a much simpler and straight-forward presentation than what we
got.

You may want to look at ClickU p. MLO doesn't
provide features for sharing. ClickUp though has start and due dates along

[MLO] MLO needs instant sync

2019-05-02 Thread Joel
MLO really needs instant sync IMO. I had to move to another productivity
app due to needing instant sync with Google Calendar. I was just becoming
to frustrated of clicking that calendar sync button whenever I wanted to
see changes on my calendar and then even at that, only being able to do so
at my desktop. How limiting. Besides, I don't think calendar sync is being
utilized by a lot of users because it would get a lot more attention. It's
missing from the mobile apps altogether with no stated plans of adding
this. I'm mobile, not solely a desktop user only.

I also had the problem of getting reminders from MLO on my Android when
those tasks were already completed earlier on my desktop. Unless I had my
settings wrong, I would have had to open MLO on my phone just to get those
tasks to sync and go away. Poor design. After I complete tasks on my
desktop app, I don't want to get reminders for those tasks coming from my
phone. MLO needs instant sync for those two reasons. Calendar sync
shouldn't have even been considered without it IMO. People are mobile today.

[MLO] Anyone here using the Google Calendar sync with MLO 5?

2019-02-28 Thread Joel
I was curious to know who is using the calendar sync with MLO? If so, are
you using it solely for work or for both work and your daily life in
general?

I ask because I'm trying to use it for both work and my daily life but need
a workflow that will work for me since the mobile apps are missing calendar
sync. Currently, I use the Day View in Google Calendar as my "overview" for
the day. I make sure to sync MLO with GCal at the end of my day so it will
be updated for the next day. When I need to add tasks during the day that I
need to see in my overview, I add them to Google Calendar. However,
occasionally I will need to add a task or time-block in my calendar for
something that exists in MLO. Because I'm not at my PC, I can't hit the
sync button so I have to create a new event in GCal and give it the name of
the project in MLO manually.

For those who use it both for work and daily life, what are you doing?
Something similar? Is there a different way I could be using MLO with the
calendar sync? If I can't find a good workflow then I'll have to move my
stuff to another app like Todoist or something else that does sync with
GCal but I'm not wanting to do that at all if I can find something that
works.

[MLO] Date parsing in MLO 5 could be improved.

2019-02-05 Thread Joel
This is something I've known for some time but figured I'd post here. I
opened up the Rapid Task Entry dialogue box to enter a task like this:

*Ask Sharon if you are taking her car to the shop on Wednesday today 7pm
remind*

This was supposed to read:

*"Ask Sharon if you are taking her car to the shop on Wednesday"* which
was to be dated for *today at 7pm* with a reminder for the same time. What
I end up with though is this:

*"Ask Sharon if you are taking her car to the shop"* dated for Wednesday
7pm with a reminder.

Ideally, the date parsing should ignore Wednesday when it see's 'today' or
a second date follow it. I use Todoist alongside MLO and Todoist excels at
date parsing.
Wish MLO could be more powerful in this area. I'm always having to enter
the task manually when it comes to tasks like these.

This is something I'd like to see too. Many people use the S.M.A.R.T. goals

goal option added to MLO for that.

Re: [MLO] MLO 5 bug? Subtask listed as active even though project doesn't start until tomorrow.

2018-12-20 Thread Joel
Hmmm, okay. I see what you mean. Yes, I did have the subtasks set up to be
completed in order. Apparently, I had cleared the dates for the first
subtask at some point and then cleared the dates for the parent task which
removed the dates for all the other subtasks. When I added start/due dates
to the parent task again, they didn't get added back in for the subtasks
who's dates I had manually cleared previously. The 'Inherit parent dates'
feature remains unchecked which I guess is the case because I manually
cleared it.

Anyway, your explanation helped me spot the problem. Thanks Dwight for
taking the time to respond.

[MLO] MLO 5 bug? Subtask listed as active even though project doesn't start until tomorrow.

2018-12-20 Thread Joel
I'm not sure if this is a bug or not. I have a project dated for tomorrow
for both start and due dates but the first subtask in the project is listed
as 'active'. It shouldn't be active at all if the start date is for
tomorrow, correct? Is there anything I could have done to cause this or am
I missing something? Also, this isn't the first time I've seen this.

[MLO] Re: MLO 5 Feature Request: Add folders to the calendar sync filter...

2018-12-05 Thread Joel
Just realized a mistake I made on this post. I said that I have my Today
view in GCal set up to see child items. Correction. I have this view set up
in MLO. I can see folders in this view as well but they do n't sync to
Google Calendar.

I would like to add start and due dates to folders and see them sync to
Google Calendar just like tasks. I tend to use folders for top level
projects to make sure I don't accidentally check them off but at the same
time, would still like to see the project start and due date sync to the

Re: [MLO] Where does MLO stand wrt adding high-res screen support?

2018-12-01 Thread Joel
Is it possible for you guys who are having this problem to post a
screenprint of what you're seeing? I don't have any problem but my
resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 which is the recommended resolution for my
monitor. My wife likes hers set on a lower res which makes her icons and
display larger but also makes the text and display slightly blurry. It
doesn't bother her but it does me. Is it possible your display is set on a
low resolution?

[MLO] MLO 5 Feature Request: Add folders to the calendar sync filter...

2018-11-30 Thread Joel
Andrey, is there any chance that we can have an option added to the Google
calendar sync filters to see closed folders? My Today view in Google
Calendar is set up so I can see child items for any dated tasks. Some of
these are folders which I don't really want to turn into tasks just to have
subtasks sync or the folder itself sync. I would like to add a start and
due date to a folder and see it on the calendar. Would this be possible?

Re: [MLO] Synchronizing mlo android with google calender

2018-11-22 Thread Joel
As far as I know, you can't. Calendar sync wasn't included on the mobile
apps. Those of us who don't have access to MLO 5 throughout the day need it
in case we need to make changes.

As a workaround for adding tasks though, what I do is I add events in GCal
and treat them like tasks if I need something that must be done at that
time. At the end of the day, if the 'task' is still didn't get done, I will
edit the event, switching it from my personal calendar in GCal to the MLO
calendar in GCal. Then I perform a calendar sync in MLO 5. That way, that
tasks and its notes come over to MLO 5.

The downside is, of course, that I can't add tasks that already exist in
MLO Android to GCal when I'm out and about which is the problem that
calendar sync would solve *which is why we need it*.

[MLO] Re: INS key for new task doesn't work. Neither does alt + INS

2018-10-29 Thread Joel Azaria
Works here.

Even though my hotkey is set to "Num 0" my independent INS key works fine
too. This is a full size keyboard.

If your INS key is in the middle of the keyboard you probably need to hold
some kind of modifier key with it. On most Dells I've seen, for example,
the INS would be written in blue and there's a blue 'Fn' key near the left
shift or alt keys at the bottom of the keyboard. Some other keyboards
(Lenovo maybe?) do it in orange color. You'd need this same combo to make
the pg up, pg down, delete, etc work anywhere.
Check and make sure if that's your issue.

If you know that combo already (Fn+Ins) and that's what you've been trying
that doesn't work then go in your shortcut assignments in MLO and go to the
Insert Task action and assign/modify the shortcut entering that key combo.
It may be a different code (internal scan code) from a std INS key and that
may fix you.

[MLO] Re: MLO vs TODOIST gui

2018-10-02 Thread Joel
I have to agree with Henk as I'm currently using both, MLO for projects and
Todoist for single tasks (that I need instant 2-way sync to GCal for). MLO
is good for handling big complex projects while Todoist is essentially a
list maker meant for simple lists. I was trying to use Todoist for complex
projects but two or three teirs in and it looks really messy. Todoist's UI
looks clean because it only has two columns, one for the task title and the
date field. If the developer added more columns then they would lose that
simple UI. Comparing MLO and Todoist really is comparing apples and oranges
IMO.

If David is using Todoist then I think it's more than just the manual sync.
He probably wants to be able to add tasks and sync to Google Calendar on

MLO 5 syncs with Google Calendar. In the top menu, under *Synchronization*,
there should be an option that says *"Sync Google Calendar*". That's where
you set it up. Just be aware that it doesn't sync instantly with Google
Calendar as Todoist does. Plus, when you do sync, you have to manually do
it, even when you close out of MLO.

Thanks Andrei, I appreciate it. I hadn't used the "discard changes" button
before so thanks again for taking the time out to show me that.

Still though, I wish there was a way to lock the sort in place for
workspaces so I wouldn't have to do that. There are scenarios where I need
to sort by column title but there are other times for certain workspaces
that I don't. Perhaps Andrey can add a lock function for that at some point
in the future.

[MLO] Is there a way to lock the columns in workspaces from sorting when the name column is clicked?

2018-08-29 Thread Joel
This is a big issue for me. In version 4, when you clicked the column names
in a workspace, they didn't sort. I like that we can in version 5 but for
some of my zoomed views, I need to keep my list static. I know we can lock
the workspaces after we have set the default for the tab. This locks the
sort on the list but it also locks me from switching to the active view. Is
there a way to just lock the columns from an accidental click of the column
name?

[MLO] Re: Google Calendar sync hotkey

2018-08-20 Thread Joel
By all means, it should automatically sync, especially before one logs off
of the desktop software. I'm getting reminders from MLO on my phone this
morning for tasks that I changed and moved around last night before I
logged off. Guess what? I forgot to hit the calendar sync button before I
which is why I'm getting reminder pop-ups for tasks that no longer are
relevant. Because there's no calendar sync on mobile, I have to wait until
I get home tonight to sync MLO with my desktop. Not really ideal.
