[newbie] MP3 player half capacity
Hello, I have a small mp3 player with 254 mb storage. But I can only use half of it 124 mb. I checked for hydden files or so but with no success. I tried to format the device but also no changes. Did some one have the same problem? Hello, Since I can not watch dvds on my laptop ( and I tried...) and I need Asymetrix Toolbook to create educational material. How can I install win 98 ( I have the cd for it) on my machine who is completely dedicated to MDK 10.1 community. I saw a win4lin kernel, what is the purpose of it? Is it easy to install windows under MDK when you have one 60 GB HD on a acer Aspire 1680 notebook? I'm sorry to do that but I have to work too :-D ...from time to time! Thanks Christophe I have had this problem A lot of the DRMed players wind upkeeping a copy of whatever you put into them in the base memory strangely the MMC cards can be used to full capacity Sorry but I don't understand what you try to tell me. [newbie] ACPI, POWER DOWN not working
Hello, Since 2 month I use a new laptop Acer Aspire 1680 with MDK 10.1 community on it. Since the first installation I have no automatic POWER DOWN and I had to turn of ACPI because when I rebooted the computer I got a black screen with no access to the keyboard. I had no problem with MDK 9.2. Do I have to install an other kernel? Thanks for your help Christophe Ankara

It depends, really, on whether you have a broadband connection. If you do, go to easyurpmi.zarb.org and set up sources for main, contrib and all the other options that it gives you. The instructions on how to use it a very clear and you should have no problems. You will not need your cds again, as you will download the latest packages of everything available to you. If you don't have broadband you will want your cds back. My problem is that I can only watch Type 2 PAL region... Even with lib DVDCSS2 installed... And all my other DVDs work fine with MDK 9.2. [newbie] Burning music CDs
Hello, Since I use K3B I was never abble to burn a regular music cd that I can play in any regular music box or car player. The cds are playing on my computer but not even on a winBox. [newbie] Back again...Booting slow
Hello, I'm back to the list after not knowing why I didn't access to the list a few months?!! I have a new ACER Aspire 1680 notebook since 2 weeks and I installed MDK 10.1 community. Of course I had Win XP installed on the machine and MDK installed lilo to boot the system. Then I decided to remove XP by erasing the HD by instqlling again MDK. Now I have only linux on my toaster. Question: 1. do I still need lilo to start MDK since I don't use another system? If not how do I remove lilo? 2. When my computer starts I get an Acer page to access the BIOS (F2), is it possible to remove that screen or not? 3. When MDK is loading and checking all the parameters it takes a long time (I think it is after firewire control), is it the same for you because MDK 9.1 was faster? 4. When I power down the notebook I have the finish by pressing the button to turn of the machine. I know there is a trick around but I forgot it. I don't think there is a problem with my ISP as I never had this kind of problem with this computer (same hardware, same software) prior to reinstalling it yesterday and I am using the same ISP account with my laptop. I probably didn't install Mandrake the exact same way as before and it failed to configure something. I still think it's got something to do with security: wrong access rights somewhere or wrong security settings. Note as well that DrakConnect doesn't even see the active internet connection (status remains not connected). Hello, I'm using the touchpad on my notebook (compaq nx9005) without any additional driver. Mandrake9.2 installed the touchpad as a standard PS2 mouse. It works great. The only thing missing is the scrolling (I thing it's like the wheel on a regular mouse) that I have with XP. I don't know if it helps?? I can't look at it either but with Mandrake hardware detection routines run at boot up and if you constantly plug devices in and then unplug them, the hardware detection routines are going to continually try to change your configuration, including removing some drivers, installing others repeately. For some devices, it is often better to just hook them up, get the drivers working and then turn off the hardware detection service so that your configuration just stays the same until you decide to change it. Hello, I tried again to connect to the school LAN and nothing works. What I did is opening the configuration panel and used the internet network wizard with the notebook connected to the LAN. Hello, This morning I tested I USB small mouse and when I can home to use my notebook with my normal intgreded glide pad it was gone. When I started MDK it asked me to reinstall my old mousepad and when I get to the desktop... no mouse. Hello, I want to thank everybody who helped me to get linux running on my notebook... For the moment I fixed the following: 1/ the winmodem is running with linuxant drivers 2/ I got rid of the desktop bug... The hardest part for me because it came back even after loading the patch. I installed several times mandrake (it is much easier then with MS) and finally I put the English version this time with two user and straight after I downloaded the patch for the bug... I don't know why but it works! 3/ Wine is running but not my Toolbook software... I will try the toolbook mailing list or the wine list 4/ I installed Firefox and it opens as my main browser. Hello, I installed, with your help Firefox but now I have this problem: When I click on a link I have the Firefox profile manager that opens (I clicked on the Don't ask at startup) and since firefox is allready open... [newbie] Kmail and Firefox
Strange... When I click on a ling in Kmail... It saves the webpage in a folder file:/home/rhein/.kde/share/apps/kfmexec/tmp/ and then I get the Select Profile window from Firefox(I have one profile in it)... And end the road because the browser is open so I get a in 'use' error message. I looked at the Kmail settings but I don't see what to do. You will see a list of the browsers you have installed. Select the one you want, and use Move Up to put it at the top of the list. Did you try from a su control panel rpm --rebuilddb updatedb update-menus -v If you did that and still have the problem then some of your KDE is messed up. Me again, We tried to setup a Epson 600 via parallel port ... the notebook recognizes the printer and installs the driver... When printing a page nothing happens. We tried then a HP Deskjet 845C (USB connection) and same thing happened. Nothing comes out from the printer. (The USB port works fine a USB Flash memory) Any ideas? The rpm package on the update mirror fixes it, but in order to get the update you have to define an update source. That 'Easy urpmi' page gives you the instruction to define a source. Go to http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/index.php Tick the boxes for 'contrib', 'updates', and 'plf' and choose a mirror from the drop down list for each one. Press the button and you will see three command line commands to be entered. I try to use linux drivers for my internal winmodem elsa microlink 56K PCI HSF I have tried drivers for PCI HSF from olitech unsuccessfully : error segmentation fault while installing I also have tried rockwell/connexant drivers with the same result. I tried then to disable in bios the PoP option without more success I then tried patch hsfcompact which is supposed to adapt 56k PCI drivers from 2.2 to 2.4 kernel. VIM is a command-line text editor (if you know UNIX it called vi). If you're new, maybe you should try some more user-friendly text editor (e.g. nedit or glimmer) so I guess this person wanted to tell you to edit the file he was indicating (btw, just in case you are really new to Linux/UNIX, this files are in your home directory. [newbie] Installing Samba 2.2.2 on Mdk 8.0
Hello, I'm would like to update my Samba Server (on a x86 Mdk 8.0) to the new version 2.2.2 I've seen that Mdk 8.1 has a Samba package (rpm-ized) 2.2.2 Is it possible (and recommended) to install this rpm package on a 8.0?
