I was able to get it to work in thunderbird by making a script like you suggested and calling it via cron to generate a signature like this every 15 minutes. First make sig-pubmail executable like so: chmod 0755 sig-pubmail Then edit your /etc/crontab file and add a lines like mine below: 0 ** * * root/home/djash/./sig-pubmail /home/djash/sigpubmail.txt 15 ** * * root/home/djash/./sig-pubmail /home/djash/sigpubmail.txt 30 ** * * root/home/djash/./sig-pubmail /home/djash/sigpubmail.txt 45 ** * * root/home/djash/./sig-pubmail /home/djash/sigpubmail.txt Then of course just have thunderbird use that file as it's signature. sigpubmail.txt Why don´t you save some typying and time using cron? the following: */15 * * * * root /home/djash/./sig-pubmail /home/djash/sigpubmail.txt Would have the same effect! How can I change from spamd to spamc, since spamd is started at boot time? Ricardo Castanho Brazil I think there is a little misunderstanding here. You can use spamassassin in two ways. Firstly as a perl standalone application, in which case you call it with the command 'spamassassin'. This is the simplest way to use spamassassin. See 'man spamassassin' Or secondly as a pair of C programmes called spamd and spamc. Spamd is the daemon which runs continuously, and spamc is the client to access spamd. Spamd/spamc are better for larger mail servers because they have much smaller memory requirements and are faster. My guide describes using spamd/spamc with a Postfix server. See 'man spamc' derek Ok! Got it now! I just thought of the opposite! But in my machine, spamd/spamc are not at all fast and requires a lot of processing power! About a week ago you directed me to the excellent instructions to be found at http://www.linuxpda.com/visor/howto/current/introduction.html. Here are the steps I've taken and the results, in the order given by the above document. Modprobe Visor (as root) Results in no error message. Ok, so back to the supposedly unnecessary configuring the kernal part of the above document: lspci -v [results in learning that I have a UHCI controller] Then there's some stuff about configuring and making my kernal. I don't understand this, shouldn't need to be changing the most central elements of the OS (afik) and so I haven't messed with that at all. Then there's a bit about usbdevfs, but iirc when I looked at /etc/fstab, that entry was already in there. This would probably explain why USBLookup is working excellently with my other USB device. Then making /dev entries [root]: mknod /dev/ttyUSB0 c 188 0 [repeated for 4 USB ports (0-3)). chmod 666 /dev/ttyUSB* cd /dev ln -s /dev/ttyUSB1 pilot ln -s /dev/ttyUSB1 palm /sbin/modprobe usb-uhci /sbin/modprobe visor [push the hotsync button] pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB1 -b visorbackup ERROR: No such device (19) Press the HotSync button first and relaunch this conduit.. I believe the court's job is to evaluate and look at how it can re-organise, but also to look at commitments and see whether they are fair and must be met, or whether some serious negotation is required. I believe they can considerably mitigate the pain presently being felt. However, I also am not a lawyer. In response to the last comment, the shareholders' email said that further details of the situation and plan will be issued next week. The bad news is that make uninstall is often not supported by many applications, and you probably deleted your installation directory anyway :-( You are then reduced to hunting around the file structure deleting directories and files. The good news is that there is no 'registry' like under Windows for you to screw up. So you will get the idea by now that installing application in RPM form is preferable, because then you can do a simple urpme application_name to uninstall it. If your favourite application is not available in RPM format, you can create an RPM using an app called 'checkinstall'. Just type checkinstall in place of the 'make install' command and it will compile the application convert it to an RPM, install the RPM and then save the RPM in /usr/src/RPM for you. Ricardo Hi, To fine tune the kernel from i586 to athlon. is it just take the source of the currente kernel (mdk) and select athlon (menuconfig) and proceed with the regular make's ? For testing only, this is the only modification I would like for the moment! Using mdk8.1(Intel) and 8.2(athlon)! []s Ricardo Castanho If all you want is to take Mandrake's 'stock' configuation, but compile it for Athlon, then (as root) o Install kernel-source rpm o cd /usr/src/linux o cp .config k7config (note, older kernel-source pkgs might not have the stock .config included. In this case you'll need to get the one in /boot, eg cp /boot/config-2.4.xx-xxmdk k7config ) o use a txt editor to make these changes to k7config # Processor type and features (showing only the lines to change) # CONFIG_M586 is not set CONFIG_MK7=y o edit Makefile and change EXTRAVERSION = this part, and uncomment the line export INSTALL_PATH=/boot o make mrproper o cp k7config .config o make oldconfig o make dep make clean make bzImage make modues o make modules_install make install. o Done, the new kernel is ready (as a choice) when you reboot On the Intel system you'd be better off stickin with i586 -- == Linux user # 102240 = Machine # 96125 = Seti@home user == Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Em Seg 23 Set 2002 09:52, Angus Auld escreveu: Hi there! As fas as I know... it's not necessary to log out X to compile a kernel! Any how, just edit the /etc/inittab file and change the line: id:5:initdefault: to id:3:initdefault: logout and you should be on prompt! If you got **really** locked into X, after the modification... reboot! To return to X, as before, just eidt that line from 3 (console/text mode) to 5 (graphic mode). HTH, Ricardo Greetings, I have a dumb question.how do I kill my X-session and get to a command prompt? I am running runlevel 5 by default, and I'm logged in to X automatically. I want to get out of X and to a text login so I can install a new kernel. When I ctrlaltbackspace, I get my login box, and don't know how to get to a command prompt. I guess what I am needing is to know how to get to a runlevel 3, temporarily?? That should be a dumb enough question for now. ;-) (Imagine ME trying to install a kernel.)
