Its not qsl rho so that's why you're getting the error in you SQL syntax response. You need to run the file from the command line. Try this, perl DBUpdate-to-2.4.pl You might need to use the full path to the perl.exe if its not in your path. Once that's run log back into your mysql and run the DBUpdate-to-2.4-post.mysql.sql the same as the first .sql script. Hopefully that will get the DB updated for you. I reduced the size of the pictures I have embedded in the article, but size doesn't seem to matter here as none of the pictures are loading across all customer viewable FAQ's for at least 3 or 4 mins.. (it just shows the small broken picture icon) then suddenly all of them are viewable. While waiting for a picture to load, I right-clicked on the broken picture link and it got me to log in as Admin and then I got a download prompt asking me did I want to save or view the file... I could download and view the file ok then. I know there is a bug where if an internal article that contains pictures is converted to an external (public) one, the pictures are not viewable... I think I probably changed a few from internal to external (customer), but at least one or two were always external (customer), and their pictures are taking ages to load. Logged on as an Admin I have no problems at all... all pictures are instantly viewable. Strange. Suggestions very welcome! I'm getting lots of bad votes in the FAQ's due to non-existent pics! :( Thanks Emily Emily Flynn emily.fl...@zurichbank.com Sent by: otrs-boun...@otrs.org 05/08/2009 16:16 Please respond to User questions and discussions about OTRS. otrs@otrs.org To User questions and discussions about OTRS. otrs@otrs.org cc Subject Re: [otrs] FAQ pictures taking longer to load for customers Hi, Thanks for your reply. Re: [otrs] Max characters per faq
Hi Michiel, Many thanks for you in-depth reply! It certainly answered my question : ) The reason for the long 'Symptom' is that we are using OTRS FAQ as a knowledgebase, into which I am copying and pasting a lot of text. I am going to try edit the FAQ layout so you can't see the Symptom, Problem and Solution fields as it doesn't really suit the format we would like. Your suggestion of changing the field type to mediumtext worked perfectly thank you very much for that! Kind Regards, Emily Flynn Michiel Beijen mich...@beefreeit.nl Sent by: otrs-boun...@otrs.org 27/05/2009 20:33 Please respond to User questions and discussions about OTRS. otrs@otrs.org To User questions and discussions about OTRS. otrs@otrs.org cc Subject Re: [otrs] Max characters per faq Hi Emily, You did not mention what FAQ version and database make/model you are using, but on MySQL the fields are defined as text which makes it not able to hold more than 2^16 characters. It will truncate the string and not tell you. If you'd save the FAQ article and open it, it will 'only' display the first 65000 characters, the rest will be gone... I have inserted some large chunks of Kafka into new FAQ entries on my test environment. The Symptom field is stored in the field called f_field1 on the faq_item table, as is defined in Admin Sysconfig FAQ Core::Item FAQ::Item::Field1. The fields are limited at 65535 characters, to be precise. mysql select length(f_field1) from faq_item; +--+ | length(f_field1) | +--+ | 31 | | 107 | | 168 | |65535 | |65535 | +--+ 5 rows in set (0.00 sec) Then I found this post about the storage capacities of 'text' type fields in mysql: http://simonwillison.net/2002/Aug/1/mysqlTextLimits/ That made me wonder if this is present in more places in OTRS: mysql select table_name, column_name from information_schema.columns where data_type = 'text'; +---+---+ | table_name| column_name | +---+---+ | article | a_from| | article | a_reply_to| | article | a_to | | article | a_cc | | article | a_subject | | article | a_message_id | | article_search| a_from| | article_search| a_to | | article_search| a_cc | | article_search| a_subject | | article_search| a_message_id | | auto_response | text0 | | auto_response | text1 | | auto_response | text2 | | faq_item | f_keywords| | faq_item | f_field1 | | faq_item | f_field2 | | faq_item | f_field3 | | faq_item | f_field4 | | faq_item | f_field5 | | faq_item | f_field6 | | notifications | text | | salutation| text | | sessions | session_value | | signature | text | | standard_response | text | +---+---+ 26 rows in set (0.12 sec) But as you can see only in places where it makes sense (at least to me) the 'text' type is used... except in the faq_item table. Personally, I find symptoms of 65535 bytes a bit long but I think that should be possible. Also I think it the Problem and Solution fields should be able to handle real long amounts of text and AT LEAST the system should complain instead of silently truncating your texts. As a quick hack, you could change the field type in the database to 'mediumtext' type which can keep a maximum of 2^32 characters which is about 4.294.967.296. mysql alter table `faq_item` change `f_field1` `f_field1` MEDIUMTEXT; Query OK, 5 rows affected (0.14 sec) Records: 5 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0 You'd probably want to do the same to the fields f_field2 (Problem) and f_field3 (Solution). The field lenghts are defined in the OPML file which is here: ftp://ftp.otrs.org/pub/otrs/packages/FAQ-1.5.4.opm - there you see the fields are defined as storing 2 characters, MySQL then creates them with the 'text' datatype. I would like to ask you if you can file this bug in Bugzilla ( http://bugs.otrs.org) so it may be resolved in the next version of the FAQ module. [otrs] MySQL Admin Problems
Hi, I'm running OTRS 2.1.7, and I've been having a problem with Apache failing. So I want to upgrade to 2.2 hoping this might fix it. What this entails is backing up the MySQL database, uninstalling the current version of OTRS, and then reinstalling the new one, making sure to copy over my config files. Now, I'm not knowledgeable of MySQL at all, so I want to use a user-friendly application to work with the database in order to avoid errors. I downloaded and installed MySQL tools from the MySQL website, and the Administrator tool is picking up the MySQL database using the default OTRS Username and Password. The Administrator isn't connecting to the database correctly however, when I so into User Administration, I get the following error: 'A MySQL error was encountered. The message is: Could not fetch user names. The following error occurred: SELECT command denied to user 'otrs'@'localhost' for table 'user' (1142). As far as I can find out, this means that the proper user privileges have not been set for the database, but I don't know how to fix this, or how to adjust and save the correct config files. If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! RE: [otrs] MySQL Admin Problems
Thanks for your answer Laurent. It turns out I was logging into the database with the default MySQL 'user' as opposed to 'root'. So when I logged in as root admin, all was fine, I changed passwords, created a user, and I can go about managing the database. I'm actually running otrs on an XPSP2 machine, and I tried PHPMyAdmin already, but I had difficulties installing the PHP. During the installation of PHP, a list of available extensions are given and It's recommended to install only the necessary extensions as problems can arise if you install everything (I did try that - and problems did indeed arise..). I couldn't find out which were the correct extensions to install (this was my first encounter with PHP) and when someone suggested the desktop GUI MySQL Administrator, I thought I'd try that. I still would have like to get PHP installed, as it could be something I'd look into working with. If anyone knows what extensions I should install, I'd gladly take any advice! [otrs] IE7 crashing
Hi! I've been using the OTRS GUI with Firefox, and I've checked that any pages where I've edited the html render OK in IE7. I never actually used OTRS with IE7 though, and a colleague of mine who uses IE7 came across a problem this morning. When he goes to reply to a new ticket to say request received and to change the state, as soon as he hits submit, the internet explorer error 'page cannot be displayed' comes up, however the email does get sent to the person who created the ticket, and indeed, the state gets changed. Hi, No there's nothing in the error logs about it. [otrs] FQDN
Hello All, I'm having a problem changing the FQDN of our OTRS system. I had copied the mysql folder from the initial PC I set the system up on, knowing that I could change the few settings for the new PC. In SysConfigFrameworkCore, the FQDN is set as flynne.example.com with flynne being the old pc. I'm trying to change it to horizon.ourdomain.com, but each time I hit update, it reverts back to the previous FQDN. Is there another way I can change the FQDN by going into the mysql files? I don't know too much about sql but I'll give any suggestions a try. [otrs] Notfication email
Hi there, I'm having a problem with our system (2.1.7) in that when a new ticket gets issued by a customer, I don't receive a notification email. I have the boxed ticked in the user management console that should make me receive a mail, but I don't. Hi Tobias, Yes, I have 5 different queues set up, and all are in my queue list in the preference panel. Another user has the same five queues in their preferences too and he hasn't received any notification emails either. The 'admin notification' I was referring to was the New Ticket notification email, and yes I do have that selected as yes in the preferences panel.
