RE: xm radio online service

Okay, I don't understand. How can this be dooable? The screen seems to be
extremely crowded with info, a lot of which not pertaining to what one is
listening to, for one thing.
What if I want to find, Deep Tracks, for instance? How do I find that?
What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to not refresh
flash automaticly, or rather, turn refresh flash off.
But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of channels,
since you only see a few at a time.

I have found that if I use the up and down arrow along with tabbing, I
can get around just fine.

Now, the flash doesn't work real well. But, if I am curious about a
song that is playing, I click the button for the artist or the station

Now, my question is, why, on the weekends, do they play things that are
a week old but go live during the week.

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a
visual thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see
the entire channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly
enough. I wouldn't pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for
something I couldn't fully use. I would have gotten in touch with tech

Re: Need reccomendations on boomboxes

2004-11-07 Thread Kevin Shields
Terry, Could it be that your NPR station is weaker than the Christian
station next to it? Most Walkmans and boom boxes have very lose front
ends. What I mean by that is, that they don't reject multipath
interference that well. So stronger stations almost always blead over in
to the weaker ones. For example, here In Colorado Springs, Colorado
where I live, I work for an NPR station that for all intense and purposes
has a weaker signal than stations around it. Our power output is only
2300 watts off the top of Cheyenne mountain. That's just west of
Colorado Springs, and it's where all the FM TV and other UHF VHF
communications transmitters are located. And of course a radioor tuner
with a loosefront end will pick up all that interference coming off the
mountain. I have a walkman, it's a Sony, one of their sportsman models.
TheA.M. isn't too bad for a radio that small. But the FM has a local
distance switch, and it's tuned with a nob. But in order to get KRCC in
most sections of town, I have to use the local setting. If I use the
distance setting on F.M. I can't even find the signal. So in order to
get KRCC, I have to have a real good radio like the CC radio by C Crane
or the GE super radio 3. My ICF 2010 by Sony will get it. And my tuner
on my stereo will get it. So what I'd do is to test out the boom boxes
before you buy one, and make sure it will receive the station you want to
listen too. If I can help you any further, please let me know.
Take care,
Kevin

Ah! well I think from your message you're referring to selectivity
 of the tuner
when you talk about stations bleeding.

Well... (speaking of the Panasonic RX-ED50 which I mentioned in my
 post), I can
tell you that you won't! get this problem, that Sony Boom-Box you're
 referring
to sounds a very cheap and nasty product to me if its doing that.

The difference between digital tuning and analog? Well... digital
 tuning is far
more accurate that is to say, if you wish to tune to a frequency of
 1080KHZ,
then that's exactly what the set or tuner is tuned to with no drift
 etc.

Digital tuned radios have had a problem of not being very sensitive
 though this
is changing now with better designs, better sheelding etc.

An analog radio is tuned by a knob whereas digital tuned radios are
 tuned with
buttons. To go back to the Panasonic set I have, to tune in a
 station, you use
the up/down tuning buttons, these go up/down in 9KHZ steps (that's
 the standard
frequency step for all Medium-Wave radio receivers outside the
 U.S.). When you
hold down either up or down, the set goes into SEEK mode (that is,
 the set
looks for a strong signal and locks onto it).

Once you've tuned a signal, you can assign the frequency to a memory
 or preset,
the Panasonic boom-box I have has 24 presets and they can be
 recalled by either
turning a dial (which clicks) on the top of the unit or by typing in
 the preset
number on the remote control keypad.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

 Hello everyone,
First of all, I'd like to say thank you for your thoughts so far, on
 this
 situation.
Now I have a couple more questions.
If I purchase a different boombox, than the Sony I bought, is it
 likely that
I'll run into the same problem I have with this one?
I want to be able to pick up NPR without getting that Christian
 station
bleeding in. Like I said, I never had this problem with my analog
 boombox.
Also, how exactly does digital tuning work? And how is it different
 from
 analog tuning?

I was able to find two boomboxes on the Circuit City website, that
 use
analog tuning. However, they are made by brands that I'm not
 familiar with.
I don't want to buy one of them, to just have to replace it a few
 months
later, because it wasn't that good.
 One was made by Nexxtech.
And I believe the other one was made by ESA, but I'm not sure if I'm
remembering that exactly right or not.
Has anyone ever heard of either of these brands? If so, do you know
 how
good their stuff is, or isn't?
 Thank you,
 Terri

Re: Read and write audio cassettes on a pc

2004-11-07 Thread Roger Fordham
Hi Johnathan,
I'm not familiar with Mix It, so couldn't comment on that. A line-out
connection simply means that it takes the signal from whatever device you're
using and transfers it to somewhere else. The simplest thing to think of is
an earphone, where when you plug in the connection the sound or signal
coming from the radio speaker is transferred to the headset so you can hear
it. What you will need is a plug that connects from your sound source,
[radio, Cassette player, etc], to your line-in on your sound card. A visit
to your local hifi dealer should get you sorted.

Cheers

Re: Need reccomendations on boomboxes

2004-11-07 Thread TerriStimmel
Hi Kevin,
Thank you for your input on this. I appreciate it.
Yes, I believe that this Christian station is stronger than our NPR station.
I know this NPR station is in one city, but it has towers in other cities as
well.
I can actually pick up two of the stations, but the one near the Christian
station comes in much better than the other one.
What I don't understand is how I got it on my analog boombox without any
problems, but why I have the bleed in with this Sony.
This Christian station almost has too much power in my opinion. I say this,
because a friend of mine can sometimes hear it faintly threw her computer
speakers, and she won't even have a radio on.
Who knows how this happens, but it does. I've witnessed it for myself, when
I've been over there.
I can get the NPR station in some, and I can get the Christian station to
fade out some. I did this by moving the antenna around.
However, I can still hear it faintly, especially if I record the station.
Which is what I do a lot with NPR. There's always something on there that I
want to record.
Yes, I think you're right, I definitely need to see how some other boomboxes
will work, when I go to the store. I hadn't even thought to check that out
when I was there getting the Sony.
I think I'm also going to test out the tape decks, because I want one with a
really good tape deck also.

I've heard of the GE radio you mentioned, and of the C Crane radios as well.
I'm not very familiar with either, but I have always been interested in
owning one of those C Crane radios. However, I can't really afford them.
I want something with a good tape deck in it. A decent CD player in it,
that can play mp3 CD's, and CDR's, and that's about it.
I want it to get really good FM reception, the best possible. And AM
reception would be nice as well, though that's not as big a concern, because
we don't have a lot of AM stations around here.
I don't know if I'll find a boombox that I'm absolutely pleased with, as I
really did like my analog one. But I'll be happy with one that is almost
close to what I'm looking for.
By the way, do those GE radios still exist?
I was thinking that they had been discontinued. I had thought that I've
seen discussion about those, on this list before, but maybe not.
Thanks again for your thoughts, and help.
Terri

 Doc,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see anything on the xm site which
referenced
the online service, but maybe I was just looking in the wrong place.

But, your reply clears things up and is much appreciated.

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a visual
thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see the entire
channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly enough. I wouldn't
pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for something I couldn't fully
use. I would have gotten in touch with tech support, but I'd rather pay for
the satellite than the web.

I haven't understood why it doesn't seem to be accessible. Once I click
on the artist, then the category and then the button for the station I
want, it plays fine.

I have found that if I use the up and down arrow along with tabbing, I
can get around just fine.

Now, the flash doesn't work real well. But, if I am curious about a
song that is playing, I click the button for the artist or the station
again and XM shows me what the artist is, the track and the album.

Now, my question is, why, on the weekends, do they play things that are
a week old but go live during the week.

Okay, I don't understand. How can this be dooable? The screen seems to be
extremely crowded with info, a lot of which not pertaining to what one is
listening to, for one thing.
What if I want to find, Deep Tracks, for instance? How do I find that?
What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to not
refresh flash automaticly, or rather, turn refresh flash off.
But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of channels,
since you only see a few at a time.

Kevin! Connecting more than one audio source to one pair of headphones
is certainly possible and your local electronics supply ought to be able to
fix you up. I don't know that what you're looking for has a particular name
but an Audio Mixer would certainly do the job. An Audio Mixer can be had in

Will,
I couldn't see any channel buttons at all, just the player, and they
couldn't figure out why I could not get it to work, no sound whatever
although I could play their test stream. What I don't understand is that I
had no trouble with the samples on their site prior to their use of the web
service, but when I mentioned that their tech could not explain it. Do you
think it is a different player? Maybe somebody can help me explain why
these embedded players or whatever they are called need a flash element for
audio, I thought that flash was primarily for use with video applications to
make them run better. Okay, i'm done, lol.

Hi Ray,

If you drop me a note off-list, I'll send you the e-mail for someone who can
answer all your shortwave questions. He has worked with just about every

I'm not certain if he would want me to post his address to this list but I
do know he's be happy to help answer any questions for you.

Hi Folks,
wonder if any of you have the grundig satellitt 800 portable short wave
radio.
Is it accessible?
Once you find a station you like how do you program it in to memory?

The reason for the last question is that I am told that the sony 2010 is
real easy in fact one of the easiest to program.
So I am deciding on the 2010 or the 800.

Yes I know that the 2010 is no longer made but there seems to be a lot of
them on ebay.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Read and write audio cassettes on a pc

2004-11-07 Thread nick G
There is a benefit. If your are a high end audio person, you know that
lining in a tape-deck to a sound card does give you a loss in sound quality,
graininess, and even some buzzing called bus noise, not to be confused with
the common 60 Hz hum. This unit probably attempts to allow you to record to
and from the machine...directly, which may mean that the bus noise and other
artifacts may be non-existent.

Which screen reader are you using? If you are using jaws, it sounds like you
have flash movies turned off.
You'll want to go into verbosity settings with insert+v hit the letter f until
you hear flash movies, or something like that. If it's off, press space bar,
then tab to close.
Once flash movies is turned on, you should get the full player. You'll then
see all the buttons within the player.

Now, the flash doesn't work real well. But, if I am curious about a

Now, my question is, why, on the weekends, do they play things that are

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a
visual thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see
the entire channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly

  Greetings,

I am a MCP, and long time ago I developed a simple
  program with the
objective of allow the user to play music using the
  computer keyboard.
  It is
not apropriated for professional uses, of course,
  but is very simple to
  use,
it is free and doesn't require any kind of
  configuration.

The software was not created especifically for
  handicapped people (by
  the
way, I'm not blind), but several blind users were
  able to use it
  without any
problem. Once the program is started, it is ready to
  play. Some
  settings
like Volume, Instrument and Chords can be defined
  using the keys from
  F1 to
F12 (the keys are already programmed to perform
  theese actions). If you
  are
able to see a little, or have some friend that can
  describe an image
  for
you, ask him to access this :

 http://pianoeletronico.tripod.com/images/piano_tela.gif
  . It is a
  screenshot
of the main screen of the program, it shows how
  simple and easy to use
  the
  program is.

One of the most interesting things in the program is
  the fact that you
  can
play using any one of the 128 Instrument Set (from
  Gerenal MIDI
  Standard),
and even press more than one key at the same time to
  play
  poliphonically.

Play music using the computer keyboard may seen
  pointless if you have a
  real
piano or eletronic keyboard, but consider the
  possibility to play
  anytime,
anywere (perhaps in your lunch break, and I presume
  that you don't have
  a
  piano in you office!).

You can download the program using this link :

 http://pianoeletronico.tripod.com/files/Setup_Piano_Eletronico.zip

The program is absolutelly free, and it never
  expires.

I created a Home-Page with all the information about
  the program, but
unfortunelly the site is in Portuguese only by now.
  The link is
  http://pianoeletronico.tripod.com . If you have
  experience with Visual

  version of the
  program
  at http://pianoeletronico.tripod.com/minipiano.html

You can see an English version of the site
  (performed by Google

 ripod.com%2Flangpair=pt%7Cenhl=pt-BRie=UTF-8ie=UTF-8oe=UT
  F-8prev=%2Flanguage_tools

However, the translated version has some flaws, so
  I decided to
  perform my
own translation of the most important information
  about the program.
  Here it
  comes :

Electronic Piano 2.0 is a Freeware program
  (gratuitous) with the
  objective
to allow the user to play musical notes and chords
  through the computer
keyboard. Even making use of the MIDI resources of
  the sound card (like
  the
avaibility of 128 musical instruments), the program
  doesn't require
knowledge or configuration of Drivers or any device
  connected to the
  system.
Basically, Electronic Piano 2.0 is a program
  indicated for people who
  simply
wants to play music in the computer at any time,
  without have to
  purchase
and install a professional music edition software
  (usually expensive).

  Characteristics of the Program :
  - 128 musical instruments available
  - 47 different sounds of drums and percussion
  - Poliphony (possibility to play more than one note
  at the same time)
  - Control of Main Volume and Pan
  - Combine up to 3 different musical instruments (any
  one of the 128)
  - Graphical panel with the keys
  - Note lenght is determined by the amount of time
  that the key is
  pressed
  - Execution of Major, Minor and 7 Chords by
  pressing only one key
  - 7 octaves can be selected

  Information about the programmer :

Hi George.

Can't give those details for this particular model but I expect with
regards to the shuffle question it will be the same as that for my own
player the jukebox 2.

Basically, you connect the player to your computer using the USB connection
and then use the notmad explorer software to access the audio tracks. This
is a folder on the MP3 player that contains all of your MP3, WAV WMA
files.

You can then either use control + A to select all tracks or highlight a
single track. You then press the applications key which will bring up a
context menu. Arrowing down the list will give you options such as play,
play on your computer and add to playlist. You add the track or tracks to
the playlist. You have the option to add to an existing playlist or to
create a new playlist of your own naming.

When you have added all of the tracks that you want in your playlist, you
then press backspace to take you up a level which takes you out of the audio
tracks folder and puts you in the main area. Pressing the letter P will
take you to playlists and pressing enter will open this folder. You can
then arrow up and down the list of playlists until you find the playlist
you're interested in. When it's highlighted, press the applications key
again and a context menu will open. Simply arrow down to shuffle and press
enter.

You now have a random playlist.

Generally, I only have one playlist that I've called unimaginatively All.
At present, there's only 355 tracks in there but I've had nearly 2,000
tracks in a playlist previously.

The jukebox 2 is a 10GB player and can hold approximately 2,500 MP3 files
encoded at 128kbps or 5,000 WMA files.

Regards.

Is there a shuffle function during playback on this machine? And, what is
the largest memory that you can get on it?

 Thanks.

There is a benefit. If your are a high end audio person, you know that
lining in a tape-deck to a sound card does give you a loss in sound
quality, graininess, and even some buzzing called bus noise, not to be
confused with the common 60 Hz hum. This unit probably attempts to allow
you to record to and from the machine...directly, which may mean that the
bus noise and other artifacts may be non-existent.

It really depends on what you're using the programs for. I use both total
recorder and sound forge. I am experimenting with adobe audition, but so
far I haven't had a lot of luck editing like I can in sound forge. Sound
forge seems to be really easy as far as editing on the fly. total recorder
gives you some nice features as well.

Re: Fwd: I developed a free software to play music that blind people can use

2004-11-07 Thread shawn klein
here are the shortcuts again, and then some more info.
f1 and f2, volume control. f3 and f4, change octave.
f6 and f7 change instrument moving through the list 1
2 3 4 5 etcetera. f7 and f8 change instruments moving
through the list 8 16 24 32 40 48 etcetera. f9 and
f10, pan. Pan means cause the sound to go from left to
right, or right to left, like the balance control on
your stereo or in volume control. f11 and f12, switch
chanels. The chanels seem to be sort of like presets
you can put a particular instrument in, except for 10
being reserved for drums. If you have 15 favorite
instruments I guess you could put 1 in each chanel,
but I don't think the program would save your settings
when you reboot. Haven't tried that. Chords, well I
use window eyes, and I hit 7 on the numpadd to go up
to top right, then I go down, this is what I find.
first silenciar, or to silence. There's an item in the
piano pull-down called silencia bara de espaço, or
silence the spacebar, think it refers to that. That
item doesn't do anything for me by the way, it's the
back space that needs to be silenced, not the
spacebar. OK, so below silenciar you have transpor,
meaning to transpose, not sure what that does. Below
that is ajuda, meaning help, then sobre, meaning
about, sair, meaning exit, notas musicais, music
notes, then where you can read the settings, oitava
followed by a number tells you your octive, canal your
chanel, then pan, then vozes1, and I don't know how to
make the voices more than 1 yet. Now we have a bunch
of blank space as we go down, then there's a number,
the instrument you have set then the name of the
instrument, below that the volume. Then the word
acordas, meaning cords. Now below that you have a
check box labeled tocar acordas, meaning play chords.
If you want to play chords on the bottom 2 rows of
keys, check that. Anything below that, well there's
the edit box, then the keyboard screen. That's it.

   Greetings,

I am a MCP, and long time ago I developed a
 simple
   program with the
objective of allow the user to play music using
 the
   computer keyboard.
   It is
not apropriated for professional uses, of
 course,
   but is very simple to
   use,
it is free and doesn't require any kind of
   configuration.

The software was not created especifically for
   handicapped people (by
   the
way, I'm not blind), but several blind users
 were
   able to use it
   without any
problem. Once the program is started, it is
 ready to
   play. Some
   settings
like Volume, Instrument and Chords can be
 defined
   using the keys from
   F1 to
F12 (the keys are already programmed to perform
   theese actions). If you
   are
able to see a little, or have some friend that
 can
   describe an image
   for
you, ask him to access this :

http://pianoeletronico.tripod.com/images/piano_tela.gif
   . It is a
   screenshot
of the main screen of the program, it shows how
   simple and easy to use
   the
   program is.

One of the most interesting things in the
 program is
   the fact that you
   can
play using any one of the 128 Instrument Set
 (from
   Gerenal MIDI
   Standard),
and even press more than one key at the same
 time to
   play
   poliphonically.

Play music using the computer keyboard may seen
   pointless if you have a
   real
piano or eletronic keyboard, but consider the
   possibility to play
   anytime,
anywere (perhaps in your lunch break, and I
 presume
   that you don't have
   a
   piano in you office!).

You can download the program using this link :

http://pianoeletronico.tripod.com/files/Setup_Piano_Eletronico.zip

The program is absolutelly free, and it never
   expires.

I created a Home-Page with all the information
 about
   the program, but
unfortunelly the site is in Portuguese only by
 now.
   The link is
   http://pianoeletronico.tripod.com . If you have
   experience with Visual
Basic, you can download an Open-Source (but
 simpler)

Okay, I don't understand. How can this be dooable? The screen seems to be
extremely crowded with info, a lot of which not pertaining to what one is
listening to, for one thing.
What if I want to find, Deep Tracks, for instance? How do I find that?
What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to not
refresh flash automaticly, or rather, turn refresh flash off.
But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of channels,
since you only see a few at a time.

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc. Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a
visual thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't see
the entire channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly
enough. I wouldn't pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for
something I couldn't fully use. I would have gotten in touch with tech

Re: xm radio online service

2004-11-07 Thread Kathy and Tom
Hi Kevin,
Well, you have to go online to the link, listen.xmradio.com. Then you have
to register. That's not really a problem. There's a free 3 day trial.
When the 3 day trial expires, you have to pay. I believe it's $7. Anyway,
after that you have to navigate through the buttons with the tab and arrow
keys. I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I'm not at all sure I'm
going to subscribe. I don't think it's very accessible. Plus the fact, I
want to listen to the bluegrass and folk channels. They don't seem to be
available online. Maybe someone else will want to jump in here. Smile!
Have a good one.

What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to

But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc.
Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a
visual thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't
see
the entire channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly
enough. I wouldn't pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for

Yup, I had the same experience a few weeks ago when calling them ... the
only thing they did was to run through the minimum requirements checklist
and to assure that my login worked, duh! I'm wondering if it has something
to do with the fact that they have a flash player, which did not come up--I
guess it is assumed that everybody uses it. For what it's worth, I couldn't
get the Sirius player to work on the free trial either. For the people who
have, results seem to vary. I don't think it's a high priority for them to
get the web service working, they'd rather we all bought their receivers and
had done with it.

I did get it to kind of work. I couldn't change stations unless I shutdown
the player and then restarted it. This is unacceptable. Maybe blue grass

What I did to, which seemed to work a little bit, was set jaws to
not refresh flash automaticly, or rather, turn refresh flash off.
But, now the idea here is to be able to scroll through the list of
channels, since you only see a few at a time.

Now, the flash doesn't work real well. But, if I am curious about a

Now, my question is, why, on the weekends, do they play things that

You can click on the buttons that says decades, news, sports, etc.
 Once
done, you'll see channels for that genre you chose. It is more of a
visual thing, but I had little success with it. I believe I didn't
 see
the entire channel lineup for the genre I chose, but was friendly
 enough. I wouldn't pay $7.95, ($3.95 for subscribers) a month for
something I couldn't fully use. I would have gotten in touch with
 tech

tim your completely correct. because you are dealing with an analogue signal,
it makes absolutley no difference whether your plugging a lead into your sound
card or connecting a device directly into your computer.

noise from tape decks usually comes from a number of different sources. it can
be something as simple as dirty heads in the machine to having to many cables
touching each other which can cause a low hum or rumble noise.

the only thing that i can see that this device may bring is that you don't have
to keep moving cables and tape decks around, but surely it would be a lot
cheaper to purchase a reasonable tape deck, plug it permanently into your sound
card and leave it in the one spot.

each to their own i guess.

Hey Denny, I do the same thing, copy lp's old open reel
cassettes
 into
my pc.
The lp's never sounded so good.
Doesn't seem to matter which software I use to copy, the audio
is
 greatly
enhanced plays from the pc crystal clear. It does seem to
matter
which
software I use to play them back from the pc, Winamp gives the
best
playback
sound, especially on the bass, giving a more natural bass
whereas
some
other
softwares give more of a thumping bass rather than the pure bass
tones.
Even the old mono lp's get enhanced sound, this is true even of
some old
lp's from the 40's.
Thanks, Harry Bassler

Hi Tom,
Well, I don't think you can get all the channels online. At least I haven't
been able too. So far, I've only found a few catagories. I think it's
difficult to navigate. It's too bad.

They do say that their XM Online is new and is still in progress. So, I
don't know if things will improve. I hope so. Have a good one.

Will,
I couldn't see any channel buttons at all, just the player, and they
couldn't figure out why I could not get it to work, no sound whatever
although I could play their test stream. What I don't understand is that
I
had no trouble with the samples on their site prior to their use of the
web
service, but when I mentioned that their tech could not explain it. Do
you
think it is a different player? Maybe somebody can help me explain why
these embedded players or whatever they are called need a flash element
for
audio, I thought that flash was primarily for use with video applications
to
make them run better. Okay, i'm done, lol.

Yup, I had the same experience a few weeks ago when calling them ... the
only thing they did was to run through the minimum requirements checklist
and to assure that my login worked, duh! I'm wondering if it has
something
to do with the fact that they have a flash player, which did not come
up--I
guess it is assumed that everybody uses it. For what it's worth, I
couldn't
get the Sirius player to work on the free trial either. For the people
who
have, results seem to vary. I don't think it's a high priority for them

get the web service working, they'd rather we all bought their receivers
and

supposedly there is a new receiver out with a built in recorder on it which
will allow one to record up to five hours at a time, kind of an xm tivo, if you
will. I think it's a Delphi product. You may hear adverts for it on XM.

I looked for it but couldn't find it. What did you choose in the midst of
all those names? does any one know the significance of clicking on number
 or channel?

I'm glad I found the channels I was looking for before I subscribed. I'm
still not sure whether I'm going to subscribe. I do love the folk channel
 though!

 Hi Doc,

Yeah, I had to do that too at first. The thing is I don't think all the
channels are available. I wonder if more channels will be available with
the paid subscription? I'm going to give them a call tomorrow. I hope I
can get the answers to my questions. I won't count on it. Have a good
 one.

I finally got it to work in a sense. I'm hoping the problem is only with
the free trial. I had to turn off the player, turn it back on in order
 to
 change stations.

 Kathy,
Yup, I had the same experience a few weeks ago when calling them ... the
only thing they did was to run through the minimum requirements
 checklist
and to assure that my login worked, duh! I'm wondering if it has
 something
to do with the fact that they have a flash player, which did not come
 up--I
guess it is assumed that everybody uses it. For what it's worth, I
 couldn't
get the Sirius player to work on the free trial either. For the people
 who
have, results seem to vary. I don't think it's a high priority for them
 to
get the web service working, they'd rather we all bought their receivers
 and
 had done with it.

 Susan

2004-11-07 Thread mimi
I've been hearing something about a
portable XM receiver out now, a new one
you can take anywhere with you. Not the
Roady; Magpi, or something like that.
Hmm, I'm satisfied to wait till I get
home to hear favorite shows. When I'm
going somehwere, I need to concentrate
on where I am. I'm one of those who
can't walk and chew gum at the same
time; but then, I don't chew gum!
