Cd Ripping Software, What's Good And What's Not?
Hi again! I was prompted to post to the list thanks to a question I received via private eMail which wanted to know some of the features that made Exact Audio Copy stand out from the crowd of CD Rippers. One of these features is the Accuraterip function, more information on this can be found at <http://www.accuraterip.com> In a nutshell, if your CD Ripping software can make use of this then you’re on the right track and you shouldn’t have any difficulty with Ripping CD’S though copying music CD’s is another matter but first things first. Easy CD DA Extractor or Easy CD Converter as its now known is another CD Ripper that utilises Accuraterip, I’m sure if I did a Google search I could turn up more Cd Ripping software for Windows that uses the accurate rip technology. Why is accurate rip so important in a CD Ripper? Read the short article at the above link for further information. ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane
Re: Follow-up: Free CD Ripping Software
In the beginning - a very long time ago - I too used Nero but I found that it had problems when reading CD’S so a couple of people who are in the “Ripping Game”, then put my on to Exact Audio Copy which was written by a computer programmer who loves his music. The reason he wrote Exact Audio Copy was because of the fact that most CD Rippers don’t read the content of a CD byte for byte, they skip over errors on the CD, they don’t try and recover from reading CD errors and so on. Fortunately there are several utilities around that are equal or come close to what Exact Audio Copy does, for Windows there’s Easy CD Converter and for the Mac there’s XLD and Max, others for LYNUX of course. > On 9 Nov 2014, at 6:58 am, John Gurd wrote: > > I used to use Nero as far back as Nero 7 and loved it, but versions after > that became very bloated and inaccessible. Dan, I got in on this thread very late. Frankly, as I see it, the best and most accessible free burning program is called burnaware free. The current version 7.x is not accessible; however, prior versions are very accessible. If interested, I'll be glad to send it to you for evaluation. I would be glad to send you the link if you wish. I'm glad you've found what you need. I didn't follow the conversation at the time so perhaps someone else on list suggested Windows Media Player anyway. ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: greatdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane ** Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net Skype: greatdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 faceTime +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 Twitter: @grtdane From my Braille Sense.

Re: Follow-up: Free CD Ripping Software
Okay, I've just thought of another free CD Ripping solution and I'm surprised its taken me this long to mention VLC as that's my favourite media player. I've not given the Ripper feature any thought up till now but - given that VLC is fully accessible - I can't see any reason why the Ripping function wouldn't work, follow the link below for instructions. <http://www.aimersoft.com/rip-dvd/vlc-rip-cd.html> On 3/11/2014 3:42 AM, Tom Kaufman wrote: Well that was my experience (Windows Media 12 does seem to work differently than Windows Media 11 (doesn't seem as "cut and dry" as 11 waas! Re: Follow-up: Free CD Ripping Software
Okay, I've been playing with Windows Media Player for the last half hour or so and I'm using NVDA on the Windows Desktop computer here, I'm running Windows media Player 12 with Windows 7 Home Premium. Yes, the software is certainly accessible though finding your way around Winodws Media player could be a little challenging at times I admit, the trick is to think outside the square, in other words don't assume that everything you want is in the menu bar because it isn't, you can make things a little easier by changing some of the options in the view menu. Anyway to get back to the specific topic of Ripping CD'S with WMP, this link may be of some use. <http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/rip-music-faq#1TC=windows-7> On 3/11/2014 3:42 AM, Tom Kaufman wrote: Well that was my experience (Windows Media 12 does seem to work differently than Windows Media 11 (doesn't seem as "cut and dry" as 11 waas! Re: Free CD Ripping Program
Here is an excerpt from a recent Email I received: I have mentioned AnyBurnt http://www.anyburn.com/ a couple of times in the past. It is a flexible and portable burning application. Although it does not have much in the way of keyboard shortcuts, the interface is still very accessible and it can perform most common disc burning tasks. One of it's more useful and less common features in other free burning applications is it's ability to copy discs. The older versions could not copy audio discs, but this seems to have been resolved in newer versions. I only mention this because copying audio discs has come up before. There are very few free burning applications which can copy discs at all and most of those can only copy data discs. Re: Think I Have My Answer To My CD Ripping Problems!
Tom, I don't know who compiled this Hank Williams compilation you have,, but there were only 15 hank Williams albums that were made altogether before his untimely demise. every one of them should be referenced. I wonder if you got some kind of import or something. the reason why I ask is that a friend of mine had a box set with 12 discs which ripped and gave the title information correctly. The set cost over $200.00 or so, which made it quite an expensive set. - Original Message - From: "Tom Kaufman" To: Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2014 1:22 PM Subject: Think I Have My Answer To My CD Ripping Problems! Hello List: Well I finally decided to try and rip another CD to see whether or not I have a problem with CDEX; I grabbed an Eddy Arnold CD (believe this or not, it's one from Timelife) it put the titles in just fine! So I guess this tells me that the CDs in the Hank Williams collection cannot be ripped with the titles! Grhrhrhrhrhrhrowl! I really wanted to do that as a part of a project; I would have thought that, since this boxed set I was going to rip was a pretty popular item, that there'd be plenty of information to be gathered; guess not! And, as Steve may have accurately pointed out, Windows Media may think that it has already ripped this CD.although I really can't see any clear-cut evidence of it! I was able to delete it (at least I think I did) from the library as it kept kicking open the CD holder! In case I haven't said this enough, I am thankful that you folks on the list have stuck with me on this one! If anyone knows of a ripping program that may give me better results than CDEX or Windows Media (preferably one that if free) would sure appreciate it.although I might be willing to pay for one if it's not super-expensive! CD Ripping
A two-pronged question: I'm using Windows XP Pro with JAWS 11. 1. I bought "Express Rip"; a very nice program. But it gets the wrong info from the Internet for the CD. I don't know how to change where it gets the info. 2. So I went back to CDex and it gets the right track names and stuff, but it creates silent files that are about 25% the size that they should be. Anybody have a suggestion for either program? Preciate it very much. cd ripping successful!
Hello everyone, Well, I tried ripping an audio cd to my computer this afternoon, and it all worked out successfully. However, just for clairification, I read something in a windows media player guide that stated that the start/stop command for starting and stopping the ripping process, was Alt S. The guide I read, asumes that the reader is using Jaws. However, I'm a Window-eyes user. So, is the Alt S command a Jaws thing? or is it a Windows Media Player command. Mike Rochester, NY. - Original Message - From: To: Sent: Monday, June 21, 2010 7:32 PM Subject: questions about cd ripping Hello fellow pc-audio listers, I have some brief questions regarding ripping audio cds. 1. On an audio tutorial I listened to, the narator stated that you should hold down the shift key while inserting the cd. What exactly will this action do? this will prevent auto start of the cd or program on the cd. 2. Should I press and hold down the shift key after I close the cd drive tray? or should I hold it down as the drive tray is closing. You should hold the left shift key after closing the tray until the cd stops spinning. You will hear the cd slow down. then let go of the shift. This is usually around 10 to 20 seconds. 3. After doing this, will this cause the auto run feature in windows to be perminatly disabled? and how long should I hold down the shift key? No 4. If I set windows media player to (always), I know that it will automatically begin copying the tracks from the cds I insert, however, even with this option set to always, do I still have to have windows media player running when I insert the cd? I usually have windows media running when doing this type of operation. That is not say that you must. Mike Rochester, NY. I'm using JFW 11 and WMP 11, and I can check and uncheck the files in the list view to be ripped. I just use the space bar. The files are checked by default. RE: CD Ripping Question
Yeh, use F4 to bring up the settings dialog and go over to the Remote CDDB tab and configure the remote CDDB database you want to use. I'm not sure what the default is, but I use the remote DB freedb.freedb.org, the protocol of CDDB and a port of 8880. Looks like you can use the "Query Sites" button and then just use the arrow keys to pick the DB you want to use. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman Sent: Wednesday, December 02, 2009 11:31 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: CD Ripping Question Sorry; I am responding to the email about Cdex..the one where you said you need to fill in the information (I'm thinking you put your email in someplace)..thanks! Right, first, make sure F4 -> Remote CDDB is filled out correctly. I use freedb.freedb.org, which may be the default. I do have my email address filled in. First, before inserting the CD, start WMP and click on the Rip Menu button and make sure "Rip CD Automatically when Inserted" is not checked. Now insert your CD. If you need to, click on the Rip button in WMP. Tab down to the list view. You should see all of the tracks for your CD and they should all be checked. Re: CD Ripping Question
High Tom, I have run in to the same problem that you're having over and over again. To tell you the truth, I don't really think that can be done. When your computer is ripping a CD, it is using Windows Media Player to do it. I am told that you can use Winamp to rip a CD one track at a time, but I've never tried it, so I don't know how true that really is. But if you really just want just one track off of that CD, you can use Switch to convert the .CDA to MP3 or some other audio file format. My best regards. RE: CD Ripping Question
Yes, I think it can be done. First, you'll need to go into WMP and configure it not to automatically rip the whole CD. Next, when you insert a CD and bring up WMP, you can go into the CD ripping view and just select the tracks you want to rip. I'm doing this from memory, but I'm fairly certain it can be done. If you need more specific steps, maybe someone else who has used WMP more recently to RIP CD's can help. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman Sent: Tuesday, December 01, 2009 7:35 PM To: PC audio discussion list. RE: CD Ripping Question
Hi, I would like to try EAC, because I feel other rippers make my tunes sound to 'bright' most often. I currently use JFW 6.2 Pro, Windows XP Pro/Media Center, WMP 11 or fre rip. My comp is hooked up to home theater using large 7.1 speakers. Does EAC allow for conversions to MP3 or WMA for transprtation to my sirius Stileto portable? thanks in advance! Re: CD Ripping Question
Why do you suppose that is? the documentation on the Internet is a little cryptic, but it identifies all the codes to arrange a file name of the user's choice. I did a few test rips before I got the file names the way I wanted. Because the encoder is external, I can use the latest versions of LAME and FLAC for ripping. With CDEX, this is tricky to do and one is generally left with the outdated technology. With EAC rips, you will be satisfied with the results for your lifetime. It is that good. I've used exact audio copy. The only problem I've had with it is that I can't get the files to be named the way I want them.
