Re: Shutter speed testing

2001-05-29 Thread David A. Mann

Rob Studdert writes:

What equipment/set up was used to perform the shutter speed tests?

I was saving that for the web page :)

Basically all I did was shine a low-power laser into the shutter, with a small
silicon photocell on the other side, so the photocell gets lit up while the shutter
is open.

Attached to the photocell was a digital oscilloscope in single-shot mode,
triggering off the rising edge. The 'scope has an automatic pulse-width
measurement so I just used that to measure how long the shutter was open.
The 10mW laser gave me about 400mV (or 0.4V for the non-metric) out of the
photocell so I had plenty of signal to work with.

It worked well until the really high shutter speeds (above 1/1000 on the Z-1p)
where a combination of the speed of the silicon cell and the width of the slit
relative to the beam caused inaccuracies. That's my theory, anyway.

All the rest of the work (converting all the info into X stops over/under) was
done using a spreadsheet.

Cheers,

You just reminded me of an interesting story I was told today from the brother

like to :)

At a photographic trade show the Leica and Nikon reps were busy poking fun
at each others products.
After a short while, the Leica guy says hand me your best camera. Why?
asks the Nikon guy. I want to show you something.
So the Nikon rep hands the Leica man a nice new F5, which he promptly
places on the floor. Next to that he puts one of his top-of-the-range Leicas.
Then he stands on the F5, which crumbles under his weight. He does the
same with the Leica, which holds his weight without any ill effects. He then
hands the Nikon guy his company credit card and says charge it.

Many years ago I read about a method of testing focal plane
shutter speeds by taking a picture off a tv screen and counting
scan lines. Does anyone know of this method and how it works? I
have long since forgotten. Apparently it is quite an accurate
method. I expect there would be some differences depending on if
your TV is PAL or Never Twice Same Colour format.

The horizontal frequencies are 15625 Hz for PAL and 15750 for NTSC.
Your computer monitor has a much higher horizontal frequency, some
go well over 100 kHz. Mine is now running at 1024x768 @ 86 Hz,
giving a 70.24 kHz horizontal frequency.

If you cannot see individual scan lines on your monitor screen,
you can put a test pattern with a vertical ruler in the root
window (= the background) and/or use a lower resolution.

Bring a massive stock of batteries for your Camera. A CR2 for example
is £7 everywhere in the UK but I can mail Order them from Guernsey
(offshore) for about £1.30

I was well gutted when my batteries ran out. I had taken only 2 spares
(camera needs 2) but one of them turned out to be a dud. It had been
lying round the house for a while so I thought to use that first but it
was obviously hanging around too long! I had to buy one at full price!!

Dont know how much batteries are for you but I am sure they are cheaper

P.S. I'll bet the K2 shutter speeds that were off were too *long* as opposed to
too short.

Of course that doesn't give him license to misrepresent anything. I would think
that about all you can do is ask for a refund and see if he's amenable under the

When asking for the refund, you could threaten him with negative feedback on

Beyond that, Caveat Emptor rules, I would think.

Not exactly. I bought my Spotmatic in Japan in 1966. It says Asahi
Pentax. At the same time, the same camera was being sold in the US as
a Honeywell Pentax. I think Honeywell only had the rights to sell the
Spotmatic in the US, with Asahi using its own brand elsewhere. At that
time, there were still some in the US who doubted the quality of
Japanese cameras, and others who would still not buy anything from Japan
as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor and World War II.

Travel and/to take pictures? (was: Minimum equipment...)

2001-05-29 Thread Jaume Lahuerta

In my last 4 days trip I shot 5 rolls of slides. I was
carrying the MZ-5n with 28-70/4, A24/2.8, A50/1.4 and
1,7x AF converter.(not considering 2 point and shot
print rolls).
I endend up by questioning myself if I was traveling
and taking some pictures or if I was traveling in
order to take some pictures.

If I traveled alone, I think my answer would be closer
to the second one, but when there is someone with you,
that only consider photos as 'recording the
vacation'... a body with an acceptable zoom seems the
maximum equipment 'acceptable'.
In my case, I feel 'guilty' if I see someone waiting
for me because I am switching lenses, or I am metering
at 3 different points, or...

I also have the 'problem' that I see everything as a
potential picture, and this is somehow 'stressing'.

Maybe there is someone with similar feelings? Possible
therapys?

Well, it doen't blow any theory away, unless you purchased it new in the
U.S. Heiland/Honeywell was the importer of Pentax products into the
U.S. until the mid 70's. They had the cameras rebranded with the
Heiland and later Honeywell name. Made it interesting when I was
travelling internationally in the early 70's, and a U.S. customs agent
suggested that I register the camera so I would not be subject to duties
when I returned. I pointed out the Honeywell label, and he changed his
tune. Lenses weren't labelled as Honeywell, but lens caps were.

I never negotiate prices -- except where it is the expected form of doing
business. I don't negotiate my prices and I don't ask my suppliers to do
so. They know we look at competitive pricing and should know enough to
act/price accordingly.

On the other hand, if I get special service from a specific local store --
as I did recently in selecting a digital camera -- I'll pay a reasonable
premium for the product and by it from that store. In my opinion, they well
earn the premium. If for no other reason, they earn it by saving me time
during the product selection process and avoiding bad choices that would
take my time ( and money) to rectify. On the other hand, there were no
pangs of conscience when I purchased the rest of the accessories needed to
complete the system from Adorama, BH, etc. --- much of which the local
store didn't carry anyway.

RE: Ebay SPF

2001-05-29 Thread Provencher, Paul M.

You should be able to send it all back and get most of your money back
(minus shipping both ways) if the auction was not sold AS-IS or in some
other way the seller did not say no returns. But if the item is
significantly different from the decription, you should be able to get your
money back - you should write the seller being as nice as you can without
kissing anything, and see what they say. If you want to keep anything, try
negotiating a rebate for the items not matching the description. You have
to do this pretty quick or else it starts to sound like you broke it
yourself, even if you didn't

I received the Spotmatic F, lenses and flash today from the auction I won.
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=1236238488

The SPF shutter/mirror was jamming (which I fixed), and the SMC Tak 55mm
f1.8 lens had the filter ring dented from the camera being dropped. The rear
element had fluid marks inside the lens, plus what looks to be mold inside
the front element. The same is true for the Kitsar 28mm lens. On getting
home I found the spotmeter does not work, also the flash is dead. The only
thing that works ok, is the Kitstar 80mm - 210 Zoom.

Japan SMC Takumar 1:1.8/55. This is the only lens with any damage.there
is nothing wrong with the lens itself, but the other rim has been

its own leather case.

The 3rd lens (the zoom) is marked Kitstar Auto-Zoom 1:3.8 f=80mm - 210 mm

RE: When was Heiland Pentax?

I am not sure how, but it seems you have misunderstood what I wrote. It's
not a theory. It's a well known and well documented fact. (see
http://digilander.iol.it/aohc/slr02e.htm - which by the way puts the Heiland
era between 1959 - 1962 - the original question on this thread...)

You need to read what I said again, and take it in context of the whole
message and original question. A Spotmatic that says Asahi on it is no
surprise, and does not negate the statements I made. Spotmatics weren't
made after about 1973 (they were replaced by the Spotmatic II).

Actually, eBay strictly prohibits using or threatening negative feedback to

When asking for the refund, you could threaten him with negative feedback on

Beyond that, Caveat Emptor rules, I would think.

Michel,

The interior of the HE-169B is slightly smaller. Add a 1/2 inch of foam to the bottom
of the HE-169 case and it will closely match the dimensions of the HE-169B.

(See Boz's site, HE-169 is for the A28-135/4 zoom which is just a bit longer than the
A135/1.8) (I believe all the suffix letters represent variations on the inside of the
basic case.)

Regards, Bob S.

You asked:

Would anyone with the lens case for the
 A* 135/1.8 (HE-169B)know what the

Is the 169B case slightly bigger or
 smaller than the 169 ?

OT: Accura Diamatic YS 135mm/2.8 screwmount lens question

2001-05-29 Thread sheftick

I was given an Accura Diamatic YS 135mm/f2.8 screwmount
lens by a co-worker who had sold me a Yashica TL-Electro-
X. He was under the impression this screwmount lens
would fit the Yashica which takes the M-42
(Pentax/standard?) mount lens. This lens, while being
the same size, seems to have one to many threads on the
lens and therefore does not properly fit the Yashica.

On the bottom of the lens it says 'YS-AUTO'. I am
inclined to believe it might be for a later Yashica
screwmount with Auto functions but can find no info on
the Accura lenses.

If anyone might know any info on these lenses including
what mount they might be, I'd be most happy. I will
probably try to trade for a lens I can use or sell and
purchase one I can use.

Thanks for any info.

photographing LEGO (and one more cat picture)

2001-05-29 Thread Amy Hughes

First, a picture of a cat inside a church made of LEGO...

ZX-5n, 50mm/1.4, Kodak Portra 800.

There are other pictures on that page I'd like help with (warning -
there are lots of pictures)...

http://www.amyhughes.org/lego/church/construction

The lighting isn't good on most, and a few are digital, but most were
shot with my ZX-5n and Zx-10 on Portra 800 under one or two photolamps,
or natural light.

The ones I'd like input on are the ones that contain lots of red. They
lack detail at any exposure, and metering exposure is unpredictable,
even with my handheld incident light meter. Any suggestions?

I thought Portra 800, being somewhat low-contrast, would work well on
LEGO. Is it possible that the very simple colors are screwing up the
lab prints?

The following shots are the digital ones, and I'm not looking for
comment on them (but certainly wouldn't object)...

The crucifix, alter, pulpit and glass walls behind them
The two shots of the pulpit that follow
The exterior wall shot that follows the 2 of the pulpit
The lady sitting at the organ

The rest are 35mm, lab-printed 4x6's.

Thanks,

Ayash Kanto Mukherjee wrote:

Recently, Todd pointed out that some of the older bodies like K1000 or
Canon AE1 are unable to measure the light using light meter
 for high speed
films and low shutter speeds like 1/4 sec. If that is the
 situation, then
the trick described above will be of no use to determine the
 duration of
 long exposures.

I've used the same procedure. When the light meter in the K-1000 shut off
for lack of light, I punted and used spot meter mode of my PZ-1p body as a
light meter since it is more sensitive. Without it, I would have had to
guess -- I probably would have picked the part of the scene I wanted to
meter from and then moved close enough to get a reading off only it to use
as a starting place.
One thing I learned to be careful about with my K-1000 (and maybe others
need to be as well?) is that down at the extreme end of the light meter
range, the metering gets severely non-linear. When I'm close to that range,
I always check the reading by making a one-stop change. If the needle
deflects more than I expect a one-stop change to do, then I can't trust
either reading.

hope that helps,

You'd need to run the oscillator pretty quick. If you run the LED on DC and

circular polarizer question

2001-05-29 Thread Scott Dillard

Hi,
I have a ZX-5N and was using a circular polarizer on a wide angle lens (28A)
this weekend at a antique car show in Springfield, Missouri. I took a lot
of pictures and hope they turn out well. I am just starting photography and
am really loving how much I am getting into it now. I am always on a look
out for pictures in my area now, Chicago area. Anyway, I digress, I have a
question. In a book I own, I believe a Kodak book on photograhy, it says
to increase up to a couple stops when using a circular polarizer. My
question is that I did a little test with and without the circular polarizer
on the lens. The meter on the camera did take into consideration when using
the circular polarizer on the lens and the meter provided about two more
stops vs. when the polarizer was off. I used the same scene to judge this.
Later, I also did this with various sites at the show and did the same
thing. Now I hope that I did not over exposure when I took a lot of
pictures manually over exposing from +.5 to 2 stops.
My question, long message to read to get to the question is this, do I have
to manually increase exposure when the circular polarizer is on the ZX-5N
camera or does the camera do this for you?

Thanks for the advise in advance,
Scott

Random Generated Pentax Stuff

2001-05-29 Thread Jon Hope

Hi all

An interesting couple of pieces of random generated stuff.

Pentax sold 44% of all the SLRs sold in Australia last year. They also sold
48% of the PS cameras sold here.

Where things get interesting is that I got told that within three years
Pentax expect to be selling many more digital cameras than film based ones,
and they won't be HP/ Pentax hybrids. I find it strange that they haven't
released the digital MZ-S, or a Pentax digital PS developed by themselves
yet, and this sort of stuff is out there, but there you go.

I got shown a print from a Hasleblad whatever with the digital back on
Saturday. The print was about a metre x a metre, printed on a insert
memory blank here. At $70,000 AUD for the setup you'd expect it to be
decent. It was as good as any I've seen from a film based camera. I gather
the CCD in the Hasleblad digital back is 36mm x 36mm (from memory).

I think it is getting close to the time to think of selling my MZ-3 and Z-1p..

Cheers

Hi Scott,

The camera does it for you. The ZX-5n's light meter doesn't know you've put
a filter on, it just measures the light making it to the meter and adjusts
Av and Tv accordingly. You may not have hurt much, depending on the film
(print film is more forgiving than slide film).

On the bottom of the lens it says 'YS-AUTO'. I am

Re: Ebay SPF

You're right, Paul. Perhaps I shouldn't have said threaten him with negative
feedback; that was too strong a word. And yes, he did say that the items were
sold as is. But he did make certain representations as to the condition of
the lenses. He said there was nothing wrong with the Tak aside from the
dented filter ring. He said that the 28mm Kitstar was in good shape. And he
said that the body appeared to be in good condition other than the sticky
shutter.

Even if sold as is, it seems to me that he mis-represented the condition of
those items. Obviously, I don't think that James should immediately contact the
seller screaming that he's going to register negative feedback if things aren't
rectified, but as a last resort, that is an option, IMHO. I guess that it
depends on how honourable the vendor is...

Of course that doesn't give him license to misrepresent anything. I would

Re: Technical question for those with 77LTD and FA85F1.4

2001-05-29 Thread Peter Alling

Depth of field has nothing to do with the characteristics of a particular
lens. It is
merely a function of aperture and Focal length. The answer is simple. The
77 limited will
have a greater depth of field at any focusing distance, with a commensurate
wider field of view
at that same distance due to it's shorter focal length and smaller maximum
aperture.

For example the 77/f1.8 ltd. would have a depth of field at one meter of
.993 M to 1.07 M
or a total DOF of .014 M or a little over 1/2 inch.

The 75/f1.4 would have a depth of field at one meter of .996 M to 1.004 M
or a total DOF of .009 M or a little over 1/3 inch.

Re: Ebay SPF

2001-05-29 Thread John Mustarde

I've had good luck by writing a very diplomatic letter outlining the
problem and asking if there is something the seller can do to help me
out. In each case, I've either received an offer to return for refund,
or a cash refund of part of the purchase price, even though the
auction was As Is.

Nevertheless, I have revised my personal Ebay rules as a result of
several less-than-stellar purchases in the past year:

Rule 1: If it appears they don't know anything about cameras, they
don't. There could be a grinch living in the aperture blades and they
wouldn't notice it. Bid with caution, and bid low.

Rule 2: Treat every camera which the seller bought at an estate sale
is being sold by a person who qualifies for Rule 1 *and* Rule 3.

Rule 3: As is means As Is for sure if the seller is a grinch.
People who buy estate sale cameras are likely grinches. Camera shops
which advertise Like New, Perfect, Mint Plus then add As Is - No
Returns in the fine print are grinches.

Rule 4: If I don't know the going price for that item or similar
items, I don't bid. (I still see Ebayers paying $150 for used gear
they can buy new with warranty for less either locally or by
mail-order).

Rule 5: I never, ever, and I repeat never ever buy a K1000 on Ebay.
Heck, I can get any one of eight or ten much better cameras, some
brand new with warranty, others like a Super Program or ME Super or MX
or so on, for about the same price as a K1000. For me, the only charm
of the K1000 is battery-less operation for astro-photography, which I
don't do.

Rule 6: Buy sets, then sell off the unwanted parts of the set.
(Pssst... anyone want a really good P30t for a very reasonable price?
Make an offer... soon to be seen on Ebay with a great ad including a
throw-away lens, strap, manual, and a nice high reserve)

Rule 7 (or Rule 1 after all other Rules are followed): Whenever
physically possible, avoid bidding on a good deal or a very desirable
item until the last minute. Or even the last thirty seconds. Early
bids needlessly inflate the final price. With very few exceptions,
every item will show up again within days or weeks, giving me another
chance if my late-in-the-auction bid doesn't win.

.. and important enough to not even need a Rule - always check the
seller's feedback *and* items sold before bidding. If they are selling
Beanie Babies, they know a lot about Beanie Babies, but no matter how
good their feedback rating don't expect much in the way of pre-sale
camera testing.

Re: Ebay SPF

Well, it depends. He did say the camera was AS-IS, so he may not let you
return it, despite the fact he totally misrepresented the 28 and 55mm
lenses. You can try though. Otherwise, you did get a SPF + 80-210 mm zoom
for $107. Not a bad deal, but I know it stinks because you still got screwed.

BTW, my policy on eBay is to assume the equipment needs work, and bid
accordingly - unless you know and trust the seller. I have learned this
the hard way.

Quote: The lens that is ON the camera in the photos is marked ASAHI Opt. Co.
Japan SMC Takumar 1:1.8/55. This is the only lens with any damage.there
is nothing wrong with the lens itself, but the other rim has been
dented/pushed in.

Quote: Kitstar Multicoated 1:2.8 f=28 mm. It is in good shape and comes in
its own leather case.

The 3rd lens (the zoom) is marked Kitstar Auto-Zoom 1:3.8 f=80mm - 210 mm

What recourse have I got.

Re: Ebay SPF

2001-05-29 Thread John Mustarde

After reading your original message again, I still say contact the
seller with a diplomatic letter and see if he or she offers some sort
of partial or full refund. There's nothing great about the condition
of the lenses, as they stated, and the stuff would be a disappointment
to any buyer.

Looking at the seller's feedback, they look like trustworthy sellers.
But trustworthy is not knowledgeable - these folks wouldn't know to
check for fungus in a lens, or oil on aperture blades, or sticky
aperture ring, or any of the other normal checks that should be made
prior to offering lenses and cameras for sale.

Looking at the items they sell, it's clear that A: they sell used toys
and junk, and B: the other camera gear they sold clearly indicates
they don't know nothin' about cameras.

If they don't offer to make it right at little or no expense to you,
they deserve bad feedback. But there is no need to threaten them, just
do it, if all else fails. At least you might warn someone else about
their inability to accurately describe camera gear.

Which lens is sharper - FA 35 mm f2.0 or FA 50 mm f1.7?

Greetings! I have both FA 35 mm f2.0 and FA 50 mm f1.7 lens. I can not
determine which one is more sharp. I have taken slide pictures with 100 ASA
film at f2.0, f4.0, f5.6 and f8.0 of my daughters dolls with both of these
lenses. My subjective opinion - 35mm f2.0 may be sharper slightly. But I may
have been biased in the test as I did this test after buying the FA 35mm
f2.0. six months back. Did any body has any opinion on these two lenses.
Just curious. With thanks.

Re: Travel and/to take pictures? (was: Minimum equipment...)

2001-05-29 Thread Stan Halpin

Several possible solutions in addition to the ones already suggested (i.e.,
negotiate time off or learn to live within restrictions).

1. Interest your spouse and/or significant other in your photography. Even
better, interest her in her own photography.
2. Teach her to value your photography.
a. Show her the value added from good photographs vs. PS record snap
shots. If she can't see the difference,
b. Blow up good and bad shots to 8x10 or 11x14, ask some of her friends
to come over to see your vacation shots, then ask which they like.
Hopefully, in a large enough group of friends, they won't all be clueless.
3. Tell her that travel is an important time for you to take photographs. If
she is too selfish to be able to deal with this, tell her to get a life and
find another spouse and/or significant other.
4. Take separate vacations.

Good luck!

I endend up by questioning myself if I was traveling
and taking some pictures or if I was traveling in
 order to take some pictures.

Both. There's no traveling without taking pictures, and, many times,
there's no taking pictures without travelling.

In my last trip, for three weeks in Italy, I took a backpack with an
MX, 28, 35, 50, 135, 80-200 lenses, a Leica M6, 35, 50 and 85 lenses,
and a Canon GIII with its flash as a backup, plus about 50 rolls of
film. It took pain and tears to leave the ZX5n and ME-Super at home. I
ended up using all these cameras and lenses, except the 80-200 (not
much of a zoom guy anymore) -- Just make sure you carry another,
smaller camera bag, empty, so you can leave some stuff in the
hotel/car/whatever if you don't need it.

If I traveled alone, I think my answer would be closer
to the second one, but when there is someone with you,
that only consider photos as 'recording the

 maximum equipment 'acceptable'.

My wife knows I take pictures all the time. We often split for a few
hours here and there when on vacation. My carrying a backpack full of
cameras and a couple of ziplock bags with film is an expected part of
a trip.

In my case, I feel 'guilty' if I see someone waiting
for me because I am switching lenses, or I am metering
 at 3 different points, or...

Oh, *they* should feel guilty for interfering with the creative
process of the best photographer they'll ever know! Sheesh!

I also have the 'problem' that I see everything as a
potential picture, and this is somehow 'stressing'.

Doesn't have to be stressing! Just make sure you have a camera handy
when you see these pictures, and take the photo! Seeing like a
photographer can only help you enjoy what you see even more. You'll
find yourself telling your companion look at those , helping
them notice details and things that would otherwise go unnoticed.

Maybe there is someone with similar feelings? Possible
 therapys?

No therapies. Me, I'm trying to get my wife into photography, just so
I can make sure that the ZX5 and 28-70 f4 come with us on future
trips...

It's probably a Ricoh-P compatible lens. If so, the
lens has a spring loaded contact that will drop into the well that the
camera AF shaft sinks into. You'll need a very thing tool that can
be inserted between the lens and the camera at the point where the AF
linkage is. You'll then have to work the spring-loaded contact back up
into the lens, and then it will twist off.

Re: Help, stuck lens

2001-05-29 Thread Ted Beilby

I am resending this plead for help. Waiting not too patiently for someone to
reply

It was dark and I thought I had grabbed my 70-210 which is also an Albinar
but has worked fine on this body. I keep checking for a response but no-one
has answered me yet. Please respond off list so I can get it asap. I
subscribe to the digest so time passes while the messages accumulate.

(Tonight I put an Albinar 28-80 with pk-a mount on my PZ 20. Lens wouldn't
fully mount and will not dismount. Any suggestions??? Please!!! I am in a
panic. Feel like taking a hammer to the lens and taking it off in pieces.)

Thanks

Pentax MZ-S Accessories on Japan website

2001-05-29 Thread Mark Erickson

All,

I spent a little time perusing the Pentax Japan website and found
the following page with pictures of MZ-S accessories. The battery
pack picture is the best one that I have seen. Can someone who reads
Japanese let us know what some of the other accessories are? Are
the QS-10 and QS-20 custom tripod quick releases?

Thanks,

 How's the list coming along?

Hi Shel,

I haven't enough information to put a page up of any significance, the
response to my initial post was pretty limited (about 5 responses, most of
which were relating to service centres external to the USA).

Yes, and I understand that they are the rebadged Velbon quick shoes.

See http://www.velbon.co.jp/catalog/accessory/quickshoe/qra635/main.html
for 35mm and;

and http://www.velbon.co.jp/catalog/accessory/quickshoe/qra667/main.html

Re: Help, stuck lens

2001-05-29 Thread Ted Beilby

Well, I got the lens off my PZ 20. I cut a piece of film off an
exposed/processed roll leader and slipped it into the very narrow gap
between the camera mount and the lens mount. Slid it around until it was
covering the af probe (which was in the mf position) and Hurrah! the lens
dismounted. That lens will never go on the PZ 20 again. Will probably go
directly to eBay.
Thanks if any have replied.

Re: circular polarizer question

2001-05-29 Thread Alan Chan

Since the camera meter will compensate the difference automatically, you do
not need to compensate manually. So the answer is no. However, if you use
a handheld meter, the answer will be yes.

Hi,
I have a ZX-5N and was using a circular polarizer on a wide angle lens
(28A)
this weekend at a antique car show in Springfield, Missouri. I took a lot
of pictures and hope they turn out well. I am just starting photography
and
am really loving how much I am getting into it now. I am always on a look
out for pictures in my area now, Chicago area. Anyway, I digress, I have a
question. In a book I own, I believe a Kodak book on photograhy, it says
to increase up to a couple stops when using a circular polarizer. My
question is that I did a little test with and without the circular
polarizer
on the lens.

Thanks for the advise in advance,
Scott

Re: Technical question for those with 77LTD and FA85F1.4

2001-05-29 Thread Alan Chan

I think you misunderstand. The discussion between the FA*85/1.4 and FA77/1.8
was about sharpness and bokeh. Personally, I have found the FA77/1.8 has
more natural bokeh. About the FA*85/1.4, it performs pretty poor at wide
open near infinite.

Alan Chan

Hey all,
I have a technical question regarding these two lenses. I'm sure
someone
has experienced both.
I would like to know which of these has the longer DOF wide open. I'm
interested in something a little longer for available light night shooting.
Basically from the comments I've read, the FA85 F1.4 has a rather short DOF
optimizied for portraiture. I haven't seen to many comments on the 77LTD's
DOF length wide open. Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

Re: Test report of FA 135 f2.8 lens

2001-05-29 Thread Alan Chan

Greetings! When was Pentax FA 135 f2.8 was introduced? I have not seen any
test report of this lens in back issues of Popular Photography. Does any
body here or in Europe has any test report on this lens. With thanks.

I have never seen any test report on this lens too, but I remember a
Japanese magazine described this lens as a '*' lens performance without the
'*'.
